⁵ Why wylt thou set thyne eie vpon the thing, which sodenly vanysheth awaye? For ryches make them selues wynges, & take their flight lyke an Aegle into the ayre.

³⁶ And Iacob their father said vnto them: Me haue ye robbed of my chyldren: Ioseph is away, and Symeon is awaye, and ye wyll take Ben Iamin awaye. All these thynges fall vpon me.

¹⁴ there came a messenger vnto Iob, & sayde: Whyle the oxen were a plowynge, & the Asses going in the pasture besyde them: ¹⁵ the Sabees came in violently, and toke them all awaye: ye they haue slayne thy seruauntes with the swearde and I only ranne my waye, to tell the. ¹⁶ And whyle he was yet speakynge, there came another, and sayde: The fyre of God is fallen from heauen, it hath consumed, and brent vp all thy shepe and seruauntes: and I only ranne my waye, to tell the. ¹⁷ In that meane season whyle he was yet speakynge there came another, and sayde: The Caldees made thre armies, & fell in vpon thy camels, which they haue caried awaye, yee and slayne thy seruauntes with the swearde: and I only am gotten awaye, to tell the:

⁶ Yea euery man walketh as it were a shadow, and disquieth him selfe in vayne: he heapeth vp ryches, and can not tell to whome he gathereth them.

³⁶ Enclyne myne herte vnto thy testymonies, and not to couetousnes. ³⁷ O turne awaye myne eyes, leste they behold vanite, and quycken me in thy way.

²⁴ For riches abyde not alway, & the crowne endureth not for euer.

² All is but vanitie (sayeth the preacher) all is but playne vanite.

¹³ Yet is there a sore plague, whiche I haue sene vnder the sunne (namely) ryches kept to the hurt of him that hath them in possession. ¹⁴ For oft tymes they perishe with his greate misery & trouble: and if he haue a chylde, it getteth nothynge.

⁸ All is but vanitie (sayeth the Preacher) all is but playne vanite.

² Wherfore do ye laye oute youre moneye, for the thing that fedeth not, and spende youre laboure aboute the thynge that satisfyed you not. But herken rather vnto me, & ye shall eate of the beste, & youre soule shall haue her pleasure in plentuousnes.

¹⁷ Neuertheles, as for thyne eyes & thine herte, they loke vpon couetousnesse, to shede innocent bloude, to do wronge and violence.

¹⁹ Se that ye gater you not treasure vpon the earth, where ruste & mothes corrupte, & wher theues breake throughe & steale.

²⁹ This saye I brethren the tyme is short. It remaineth that they which haue wiues, be as though they had none, ³⁰ and they that wepe be as though they wept not, and they that reioyse be as though they reioysed not: & they that bye, be as though they possessed not: ³¹ and they that vse this worlde, be as though they vsed it not. For the fashion of this world goeth away.

¹⁷ Charge them that are ryche in this worlde shal they be not exceadyng wyse, and that they truste not in the vncertayne ryches, but in the lyuyng God, which geueth vs aboundauntly al thynges to enioy them,

¹ Go to nowe ye ryche men. Weepe, and howle on your wretchednes that shal come vpon you. ² Youre ryches is corrupte youre garmentes are motheaten.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world (as the luste of the fleshe, the lust of the eyes, and the pryde of goodes) is not of the father, but of the world.
