³ To do ryghtuousnes & iudgment is more acceptable to the Lorde then sacrifyce.

²² Then sayde Samuel: hath the Lorde as great pleasure in burnt sacryfyces & offerynges, as he hath that thou shouldest obeye hys voyce? Beholde, to obeye is better then offeryng, and to geue heade is better then the fat of rammes.

⁸ I reproue the not because of thy sacryfice thy burnteofferynges are allwaye before me.

⁸ The Lorde aborreth the sacryfyce of the vngodlye, but the prayer of the rightuous is acceptable vnto hym.

¹¹ Why offre ye so manye sacrifyces vnto me? I am discontent for the brentofferinges of wethers and with the fatnesse of fedbeastes. I haue no pleasure in the bloude of bullockes, lambes & gootes. ¹² When ye appeare before me, who requyreth you to treade wythin my porches? ¹³ Offre me no mo oblacions, for it is but loste laboure. I abhorre youre incense. I maye not awaye with youre new moones, youre Sabbathes and solempne dayes. Youre fastinges are also in vayne. ¹⁴ I hate youre newe holye dayes and fastynges, euen from my very hert. They make me weerye, I can not abyde them. ¹⁵ Though ye holde oute your handes, yet turne I myne eyes from you. And though ye make manye prayers, yet heare I nothynge at all, for youre handes are full of bloude. ¹⁶ Washe you, make you cleane, put awaye youre euill thoughtes out of my sighte, cease from doynge of euyll and vyolence. ¹⁷ Lerne to do right, applye youre selues to equite, delyuer the oppressed, helpe the fatherlesse to hys ryght, let the wyddowes complaynte come before you.

²¹ Thus sayth the Lorde of Hostes, the God of Israel. Ye heape vp youre burntofferinges with youre sacrifyces, & eate the fleshe. ²² But when I broughte youre fathers out of Egipt I spake no worde vnto them of burntofferynges & sacrifyces: ²³ but this I commaunded them, sayinge: herken & obeye my voyce, & I shalbe youre God, and ye shall be my people: so that ye walcke in all the wayes, whiche I haue commaunded you, that ye maye prospere.

⁶ For I haue pleasure in louinge kindnesse, and not in offerynge: yea, in the knoweledge of God, more then in burnt sacryfyce.

⁶ What acceptable thynge shall I offre vnto the Lord? shall I bowe my knee to the hye God? Shall I come before hym wyth brentoffrynges, and wyth calues of a yeare olde? ⁷ Hath the Lorde a pleasure in many thousand rammes, or innumerable streames of oyle? Or shal I geue my fyrstborne for myne offences, and the fruyte of my body for the synne of my soule? ⁸ I wyll shewe the, O man, what is good, & what the Lorde requyreth of the: Namely, to do right, to haue pleasure in louynge kyndnesse, to be lowlye, and to walcke wyth thy God:

³³ And to loue hym with all the herte, and with al the mynd, and with all the soule, & with all the strength. and to loue a mans neyghbour as hym selfe, is a greater thyng then all burntoffrynges & sacrifices.
