¹⁵ Beware of false Prophetes, whiche come to you in shepes clothing, but inwardly they are rauenynge wolues.

¹ If there aryse amonge you a Prophete or a dreamer of dreames, and gyue the a sygne or a wonder, ² and that signe or wonder whyche he hath said come to passe and then say: let vs go after straunge Goddes whyche thou hast not knowne and let vs serue them: ³ herken not vnto the wordes of the prophete, or dreamer of dreames. For the Lord thy God tempteth you to wete whether ye loue the Lord your God wt all youre hertes & wyth all your soules.

¹⁵ By the heade, is vnderstande the Senatoure and honorable man, and by the tayle, the Prophet that preacheth lyes. ¹⁶ For al they whiche enfourme the people that they be in a righte case, suche be disceyuers. Suche as men thyncke also to be perfecte amonge these, are but cast awaye.

¹⁰ For hys watch men are al blind, they haue altogether no vnderstandyng, they are al domme dogges, not beyng able to barcke, they are slepery: slogish are they, & lye snortynge: ¹¹ they are shamelesse dogges, that be neuer satisfyed. The sheperdes also in lyke maner haue no vnderstanding but euery man turneth his owne way, euery one after his owne couetousnes with all hys power.

¹⁴ And the Lorde sayde vnto me: The prophetes preach lyes vnto them in my name. I haue not spoken wyth them, nether gaue I them eny charge, nether dyd I sende them: yet they preach vnto you false visions, charming vanite, & disceytfulnesse of their owne herte. ¹⁵ Therfore thus saieth the Lorde: As for those prophetes that preache in my name (whom I neuertheles haue not sent) and that saye: Tush, there shall nether batell ner honger be in this lande: Wyth swearde and with honger shall those prophetes perysh, ¹⁶ and the people to whom they haue preached shalbe cast out of Ierusalem, dye of honger, and be slayne wyth the swearde (and there shallbe no man to burye them) buth they and their wyues, their sonnes and their daughters. For thus wyll I poure their wyckednes vpon them.

¹³ I haue sene foly amonge the Prophetes of Samaria that they preached for Ball, & disceyued my people of Israel. ¹⁴ I haue sene also amonge the Prophetes of Ierusalem foule aduouterye, and presumptuous lyes. They take the moste shamefull men by the hande, flatryng them, so that they can not returne from their wickednes. All these wyth their cytesyns are vnto me, as Sodom, and as the inhabitours of Gomorre. ¹⁵ Therfore thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes concernynge the prophetes: Beholde, I wyll fede them with wormwod, and make them dryncke the water of gall. For from the prophetes of Ierusalem is the sycknes and ypocrisye come in to all the lande. ¹⁶ And therfore the Lorde of Hostes geueth you this warnynge: Heare not the wordes of the prophetes, that preach vnto you, and disceyue you: for they speake the meanynge of their owne herte, and not out of the mouth of the Lorde.

¹⁵ Then sayde the Prophete Ieremye vnto the prophet Hananiah: Heare me (I praye the) Hananiah: The Lorde hath not sent the, but thou bringest this people into a false belefe. ¹⁶ And therfore thus sayth the Lorde: beholde, I wyll sende the out of the land, & within a year thou shalte dye because thou haste falsely spoken agaynste the Lord. ¹⁷ So Hananiah the Prophete dyed the same yeare in the seuenth moneth.

²¹ Thus hath the Lorde of hoostes the God of Israell spoken, of Ahab the sonne of Colaiah, and of Zedekiah the sonne of Maasiah, whiche prophecye lyes vnto you in my name: Beholde I wyll delyuer them into the hande of Nabuchodonozor the kynge of Babylon, that he maye slaye them before youre eyes.

³² therfor thus the Lorde doeth certyfye you: Beholde, I wyll vpset Semeiah the Nehelamite, and hys sede: so that none of hys shall remayne amonge thys people, and none of them shall se the good, that I wyl do for thys people, saith the Lorde, For he hath preached falsely of the Lorde.

¹⁶ These are the Prophetes of Israel, whiche prophecye vnto the cytye of Ierusalem, and loke oute vysyons of peace for them, where as no peace is, sayeth the Lorde God.

²² Seynge that with youre lyes ye discomforte the herte of the ryghteous, whome I haue not discomforted: Agayne. For so muche as ye corage the hande of the wycked, so that he maye not turne from hys wicked waye, and lyue:

²⁵ thy Prophetes that are in the, are sworne together to deuoure soules, lyke as a roarynge Lyon, that lyueth by his praye. They receyue ryches and good, and make many widdowes in the.

²⁷ Thy rulers in the ate like rauishing wolues, to shed bloude, and to destroye soules, for their owne couetous lucre.

⁵ And as concernynge the prophetes that disceyue my people, thus the Lorde sayeth agaynst them: When they haue enye thynge to byte vpon, then they preach that all shalbe well: but yf a man put not some thynge is to their mouthes, they preach of warre agaynst hym. ⁶ Therfore youre vysyon shallbe turned to night, & youre prophecyenge to darckness. The Sunne shall go downe ouer those prophetes, and the daye shalbe darcke vnto them. ⁷ Then shall the vysyon seers be ashamed, and the suthsayers confounded: yee they shallbe fayne, all the packe of them, to stoppe their mouthes, for they haue not Gods worde.

¹¹ O ye iudges, ye geue sentence for gyftes: O ye preastes, ye teach for lucre: O ye Prophetes, ye prophecy for monye. Yet wyll they be taken as those that holde vpon God, and saye: Is not the Lorde amonge vs? Tushe, there can no mysfortune happen vs.

³ Her rulers within her are as roaryng lyons: her iudges are as wolues in the euenynge, which leaue nothynge behynde them tyll the morowe. ⁴ Her prophetes are lyght persones & vnfaythfull men: her priestes vnhalowe the Sanctuarye, and do wrong vnder the pretence of the lawe.

⁴ And then shal those prophetes be confounded, euery one of his vision when he prophecieth: neither shall they weer sackclothes any more, to disceyue men wt all.

¹⁷ Beware of men, for they shall delyuer you vp to the counsels, and shall stourge you in their synagoges.

⁶ Then Iesus sayd vnto them: Take hede and beware of the leuen of the Phariseis and of the Saduces.

¹¹ Why perceyue ye not then, that I spake not vnto you of bread, when I sayde: beware of the leuen of the Pharises and of the Saduces.

⁴ And Iesus aunswered and sayd vnto them: take hede that no man deceyue you. ⁵ For many shal come in my name sayng: I am Christe: and shall deceyue many.

¹¹ And manye false prophetes shall aryse, and shall deceyue manye.

²⁴ For there shall aryse false Christes, and false prophetes, and shall do great myracles and wonders. In so much that if it were possyble the very electe should be deceiued. ²⁵ Take hede, I haue tolde you before.

³⁸ And he sayd vnto them in his doctrine: beware of the Scribes, which loue to go in longe clothinge and loue salutations in the market places, ³⁹ & the chief seates in synagoges, and to sit in the vppermoste roumes at feastes ⁴⁰ & deuoure wydowes houses, and that vnder a coloure of long praiyng. These shall receyue greater dampnacion.

²² for false Christes shal ryse, and false prophetes, and shall shewe myracles and wondres, to deceyue yf it were possible, euen the elect. ²³ But take ye hede: beholde I haue shewed you all thynges before.

²⁶ Wo be to you when all men prayse you: for so dyd their fathers to the false prophetes.

¹⁵ Wherfore, he sayde vnto them: take hede, and beware of coueteousnes. For no mannes lyfe standeth in the abundaunce of the thynges whiche he possesseth.

¹² An hyred, seruaunte, which is not the shepeherde, neyther the shepe are hys own, seeth the wolfe commynge, and leaueth the shepe, and fleeth, and the wolfe catcheth them, & scatiereth the shepe.

⁶ When they had gone thorowout the yle vnto the citie of Paphos, they founde a certayne sorcerer, a false Prophet which was a Iewe named Bariesu,

⁴⁰ Beware therfore leste that fall on you, whiche is spoken of in the Prophetes:

²⁹ For I am sure of this, that after my departing shall greuous wolues enter in amonge you, which wyll not spare the flocke. ³⁰ Moreouer of your own selues shal men aryse speakyng peruerse thinges to draw disciples after them. ³¹ Therfore awake & remember, that by the space of .iij. yeares I ceased not to warne euerye one of you both night and daye with teares.

¹⁷ I beseche you brethren, marke them which cause diuisyon, and geue occasyons of euyl, contrary to the doctryue which ye haue learned: and auoyd them. ¹⁸ For they that are such, serue not the Lorde Iesus Christ: but theyr owne bellyes, and with swete preachynges & flatterynge wordes deceyue the hertes of the innocentes.

¹³ For these false Apostles are disceytfull workers, and fashyon them selues lyke vnto the Apostles of Christe. ¹⁴ And no maruail for Satan hym selfe is chaunged into the fashyon of an angell of lyghte. ¹⁵ Therfore it is no greate thynge, thoughe hys mynysters fashyon them selues as thoughe they were the mynisters of rightuousnes, whose end shalbe accordynge to theyr dedes.

⁴ and that because of incommers beynge false brethren which came in amonge other to spye out our lybertye which we haue in Christe Iesus, that they myghte brynge vs into bondage.

¹⁴ That we henceforth be no more chyldren, waueringe and caryed wyth euerye wynde of doctryne, by the wylynes of men and craftynes, wherby they laye awayte for vs to deceyue vs.

⁶ Let no man deceiue you with vayne wordes. For thorowe suche thinges commeth the wrath of God vpon the children of vnbelefe.

² Beware of dogges, beware of euyll workes. Beware of dyssencyon.

⁸ Beware least anye man come and spoyle you thorowe philosophie and disceitful vanitie, thorowe the tradicions of men, and ordinaunces after the world, and not after Christ.

¹ The spyryte speaketh euydentlye that in the later tymes some shal departe from the fayth, & shall geue heed vnto spyrytes of erroure, and deuelysh doctryne of them ² which speake false thorowe hypocrisye, and haue theyr consciences marked with an hote Iron, ³ forbyddyng to marye, and commaundynge to abstayne from meates which God hath created to be receyued wyth geuyng thankes, of them which beleue and know the trueth.

⁵ hauynge a simylytude of Godly lyuynge, but haue denyed the power thereof: and suche abhorre. ⁶ Of thys sorte are they which enter into houses, & bring into bondage women laden wyth synne which women are lede of dyuers lustes, ⁷ euer learnynge, and neuer able to come vnto the knowledge of the trueth. ⁸ As Iannes and Iambres withstode Moyses, euen so do these resiste the trueth, men they are of corrupte myndes, and lewde, as concernyng the fayth, ⁹ but they shall preuayle no longer. For theyr madnes shalbe vttered vnto all men as theyrs was.

¹³ But the euyll man and disceyuers shal waxe worsse & worsse whyle they deceyue, and are deceyued them selues.

³ For the tyme wyll come, when they wyll not suffer wholsome doctryne: but after theyr owne lustes shall they (whose eares ytch) get them an heape of teachers,

¹ There were false prophetes among the people, euen as there shalbe false teachers amonge you, which priuilie shal bringe in damnable sectes, euen denyenge the Lorde that hath bought them and bringe vpon them selues swyft dampnacion, ² and many shal folowe theyr damnable wayes, by whiche the way of trueth shalbe euyl spoken of, ³ and thorowe couetousnes shal they wyth fayned wordes make marchaundyse of you, whose iudgement is not farre of, and theyr dampnacion slepeth not.

¹⁸ For when they haue spoken the swellinge wordes of vanitie, they begyle with wantonnes thorowe the lustes of the fleshe, them that were cleane escaped, but nowe are wrapped in errours. ¹⁹ They promis them libertie, and are them selues the bonde seruauntes of corrupcyon. For of whomsoeuer a man is ouer come, vnto the same is he in bondage.

¹⁷ Ye therfore beloued, seynge ye knowe it before hand, beware lest ye be also plucked away with the errour of the wycked, and fall from your own stedfastnes,

¹ Ye beloued, beleue not euery spirite, but proue the spirites whether they be of God, or not, for manye false prophetes are gone out into the world.

⁴ For there are certayne craftely crept in, of which it was wrytten afore tyme vnto suche iudgement. They are vngodlye & turne the grace of oure God vnto wantonnes, and denye God the onelye Lorde, and oure Lord Iesus Christe.

¹¹ And I behelde another beast commyng vp out of the earth, and he had two hornes lyke a lambe, and he spake as dyd the dragon. ¹² And he, dyd al that the fyrste beast could do in his presence, and he caused the earth, and them which dwel therin, to worship the fyrst beast, whose deadly wounde was healed. ¹³ And he dyd greate wonders, so that he made fyre come doune from heauen in the syght of men. ¹⁴ And deceiued them that dwelt on the earth by the meanes of those sygnes, which he had power to do in the syght of the beaste, saying to them that dwelt on the earth, that they should make an ymage vnto the beaste, whyche had the wounde of a swearde, and dyd lyue. ¹⁵ And he had power to geue a spyryte vnto the ymage of the beaste, and that the ymage of the beast should speake, and shoulde cause that as manye as would not worshyppe the ymage of the beaste, shoulde be kylled. ¹⁶ And he made al both smale and greate, ryche and poore, free and bonde, to receyue a marke in theyr ryght handes, or in theyr forheades. ¹⁷ And that no man myghte by or sell, saue he that had the marke, or the name of the beaste, other the numbre of his name.

¹³ And I sawe thre vncleane sprytes, lyke frogges come out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast, & out of the mouth of the false prophete.

⁶ And I saw the wyfe drounken with the bloude of Saynctes, and with the bloud of the wytnesses of Iesu. And when I saw her, I wondred wyth great maruayle.

²⁰ And the beast was taken, & with hym that false prophete that wrought miracles before him with which he deceyued them that receiued the beastes marke, & them that worshipped his Image These both were cast into a ponde of fyre burnyng with brimstone:
