²⁸ But I saye vnto you, that whosoeuer loketh on a wife, lustinge after her, hath committed adulterye with her alredy in his herte

⁷ And it fortuned after thys, that hys masters wyfe cast her eyes vpon Ioseph & sayd: come lye with me. ⁸ But he denyed & sayde to her: Beholde, my master woteth not what he hath in the house wt me, but hath commytted all that he hath to my hande. ⁹ He him selfe is not greater in the house than I, and hath kepte nothyng from me, but only the because thou art hys wyfe. How than can I do thys great wykydnes, for to synne agaynst God? ¹⁰ And after thys maner spake she to Ioseph daye by day: but he harkend not vnto her, to slepe nere her, or to be in her company. ¹¹ And it fortuned aboute the same season, that Ioseph entred in to the house, to do hys busynes: & there was none of the housholde by, in the house. ¹² And she caught hym by the garment saying: come slepe wyth me. And he left his garment in her hande & fled and got him out. ¹³ When she sawe that he had left hys garment in her hande, and was fled out, ¹⁴ she called vnto the men of the house, & tolde them sayinge: Se, he hath brought in an Hebrewe vnto vs to do vs shame: for he came in to me, for to haue slept wyth me. But I cryed with a loude voyce. ¹⁵ And when he harde, that I lyfte vp my voyce & cryed, he left hys garment wt me & fled away and got him out. ¹⁶ And she layed vp his garment by her, vntil her Lord came home. ¹⁷ And she told him accordyng to these wordes saying. This Hebrues seruaunte whiche thou hast brought vnto vs came in to me to do me shame. ¹⁸ But as soone as I lyft vp my voyce and cryed, he left hys garment with me & fled out. ¹⁹ When his master herde the woordes of his wyfe which she told hym sayinge: after thys maner dyd thy seruaunte to me, he waxed wrooth. ²⁰ And he toke Ioseph & put him in preson: euen in the place where the kinges prisoners laye bounde. And there continued he in preson, ²¹ but the Lorde was wyth Ioseph & shewed hym mercye, & got him fauoure in the syghte of the keper of the preso ²² which commytted to Iosephs hande all the presoners that were in the preson house. And what soeuer was done there, that dyd he. ²³ And the keper of the preson loked vnto nothynge that was vnder hys hande, because the Lorde was wyth hym, and because that what soeuer he dyd, the Lorde made it come luckely to passe.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not couet thy neighbours house neither shalt couet thy neighbours wyfe, his man seruaunt, his mayde, his oxe, his asse or oughte that is hys.

² And it chaunged in an euenynge that Dauid arose from hys couche & walked vpon the roufe of the kynges palace, & from the roufe sawe a very bewtyfull woman washing her selfe.

¹ I made a couenaunt with mine eyes, that I woulde not loke vpon a damosell.

⁹ Yf my hert hath lusted after my neyghboures wyfe, or yf I haue layd wayte at his dore.

⁹⁶ I se that all thynges come to an ende, but thy commaundement is exeeadyng broade.

²⁵ that thou lust not after he beuty in thine herte, & lest thou be taken wt her fayre lokes.

²² but I sai vnto yow, whosoeuer is angre wt his brother without a cause shal be in daunger of iudgement. Whosoeuer saieth to his brother Racha, shalbe in daunger of a counsel. But whosoeuer saieth thou fole, shalbe in daunger of hel fire

³⁹ But I saye to you that ye resyst not wrong. But who soeuer geue the a blowe on the right cheke, tourne to hym the other.

²⁸ And it came to passe, that when Iesus had ended these saynges, the people were astonyed at his doctrine. ²⁹ For he taught them as one hauing power, and not as the Scribes.

⁷ What shall we saye then? Is the lawe synne? God forbid: but I knewe not what synne meante but by the law. For I had not knowne what luste had meant, except the lawe had sayed, thou shalte, not lust. ⁸ But synne toke an occasion by the meanes of the commaundement, and wrought in me al maner of concupiscence. For without the lawe, synne was dead.

¹⁴ For we knowe that the lawe is spirituall but I am carnal, sold vnder synne,

¹⁴ But euerye man is tempted, drawne awaye, & entysed of hys owne concupiscence. ¹⁵ Then when luste hath conceyued, she bringeth forth sinne, & sinne when it is fynyshed bryngeth forthe death.

¹⁴ hauinge eyes full of aduoutrye, and that can not cease to synne, begilinge vnstable soules. Hertes they haue exercised with couetousues. They are cursed children,

¹⁶ For all that is in the world (as the luste of the fleshe, the lust of the eyes, and the pryde of goodes) is not of the father, but of the world.
