³ This is he of whom it is spoken by the prophete Esaye which sayeth: The voice of a cryer in wildernes prepare the Lordes way and make his pathes, strayt.

³ A voyce cryeth: Prepare the waye for the Lorde in the wyldernesse, make streyght the path for oure God in the deserte.

¹⁴ And therfore thus he sayeth: Make ready, make ready, & clense the strete, take vp what ye can oute of the waye that ledeth to my people. ¹⁵ For thus sayeth the hye and excellent, euen he that dwelleth in euerlastingnesse, whose name is the holy one. I dwell hye aboue & in the sanctuary, and with him also, that is of a contrite & humble spirite: that I maye heale a troubled mind, & a contrite hert.

¹ Beholde, I wil sende my messaunger, which shall prepare the way before me: & the Lord whome, ye woulde haue, shall sone come to hys temple, yea, euen the messenger of the couenaunt, whome ye longe for. Beholde he commeth, sayeth the Lord of hostes

¹⁷ And he shall go before hym in the spryte of power of Helyas, to turne the hertes of the fathers to the chyldren and the vnbeleuers to the wisdome of the iust men, to make the people redy for the Lord.

⁷⁶ And thou chylde shalt be called the prophete of the hiest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lorde to prepare his wayes.

³ And he came into all the costes about Iordan, preaching the baptisme of repentaunce for the remissyon of synnes, ⁴ as it is written in the boke of the sayinges of Esaias the prophete which sayeth. The voyce of a cryer in wildernes, prepare the waye of the Lorde, make hys pathes strayght. ⁵ Euerye valley shall be fylled, and euerye mountayne and hyll shall be brought lowe. And croked thinges shalbe made straight: and the rough wayes shalbe made smoth: ⁶ and all fleshe shall se the sauioure sent of God.

²³ He sayde: I am the voice of a cryar in the wyldernes, make strayght the waye of the Lorde, as sayde the Prophete Esaias.
