¹ And it came to passe when Iesus had made an ende of commaundinge his .xij. disciples, he departed thence to teache and to preache in their cityes. ² When Iohn beinge in prison hearde the workes of Christe, he sent two of his discyples ³ and sayd vnto him. For if the miracles which haue bene done in the, had be shewed in Zodome: they had remayned to this daye. ²⁴ Neuerthelesse I saye vnto you: it shall be easyer for the lande of Zodom in the daye of iudgement, then for the. ²⁵ At that time Iesus aunswered and said: I prayse the, O father Lorde of heauen and earth, because thou hast hid these thinges from the wyse and prudent, and hast opened theim vnto babes: ²⁶ euen so father, for so it pleased the. ²⁷ All thinges are geuen vnto me of my father. And no man knoweth the sonne but the father: neyther knoweth anye man the father, saue the sonne, and he to whom the sonne wyl open hym. ²⁸ Come vnto me all ye that labour and are laden and I wyll ease you. ²⁹ Take my yocke on you and learne of me, for I am meke and lowly in herte: and ye shall fynde reste vnto your soules. ³⁰ For my yocke is easy: and my burden is lyght.

And he aunswered: I called the not my sonne. Go agayne & take thy rest: ⁷ but it was yer Samuel knewe the Lord, & yer the worde of the Lorde was opened vnto hym. ⁸ And the Lorde wente to & called Samuel the thyrde tyme. And he arose and wente to Eli, and sayde: I am here: for thou hast called me. Then Eli perceyued that the Lord had called the ladde. ⁹ And said vnto him: go & lye doune: & yf he call the agayne, then say: speake on Lord, for thy seruaunt heareth. ¹⁴ What is man, that he shoulde be cleane? what hath he (whiche is borne of a woman) wherby he myght be knowne to be ryghtuous?

⁴ But how may a man compared vnto God, be iustified? Or, how can he be cleane that is borne of a woman?

¹³ Why doest thou then stryue agaynst hym, because he geueth the no accomptes of all hys doynges?

⁶ Wherfor I geue myne owne selfe the blame, and take repentaunce in the duste and asshes.

¹ O blessed is the man, that goeth not in the counsayll of the vngodly: that abydeth not in the waie of sinners and sitteth not in the seate of the scorneful. ² But deliteth in the lawe of the Lord, and exercyseth hym self in hys lawe, bothe daye and nyght.

Yea the vttermost partes of the worlde for thy possessyon. ⁹ Thou shalt rule them wyth a rodde of yron, and breake them in peces lyke an earthen vessell. ¹⁰ Be wyse nowe therfore, O ye Kinges, be warned, ye that are iudges of the earthe. ¹¹ Serue the Lorde wyth feare, and reioyse before hym wyth reuerence. ¹² Kysse the sonne, lest the Lorde be angrye and so ye peryshe from the ryght way. For his wrath shalbe kindled shortly: blessed are all they that put their trust in hym.

The Lorde shall vyset the cytye of Tyrus, and it shall come agayne to her marchaundyse, and shal occupye with all the kingedomes that be in the worlde. ¹⁸ But al her occupyinge and winninge shalbe halowed vnto the Lorde. For then shal they laye vp nothinge behind them, nor vpon heapes: but the marchaundyse of Tyrus shall belong vnto the cytesins of the Lorde, to the feadynge and susteninge of the hungrye, and to the clothinge of the aged.

⁹ What is he amonge them, that can teache, instructe or enfourme the chyldren, whiche are wened from sucke or taken from the brestes: of anye other fashyon then: ¹⁰ Commaunde that maye be commaunded, byd that maye be bydden, forbidde that maye be forbidden, kepe backe that maye be kepte backe, here a lytle, there a lytle. ¹¹ And therfore the Lorde also shall speake wyth lispynge lippes and with a straunge language vnto this people to whome he spake afore of thys maner. ¹² This shall bringe reste, yf one refreshe the weerye, ye this shall bringe reste. Then he aunswereth: I cannot read it, for it is shut. ¹² But yf it be geuen to one that is not learned, or sayd vnto him: reade this lettre: Then saith he: I can not reade. ¹³ Therfor thus sayth the Lord: For so much as thys people draweth nye me with theyr mouthe, and prayseth me hyghlye wyth theyr lyppes (where as theyr herte neuerthelesse is farre from me, & the feare which they owe vnto me, that turne they to mens lawes and doctrynes) ¹⁴ therfore will I also shewe vnto thys people a maruelous, terryble, and great thing (Namelye thys:) I wyll destroye the wysdom of theyr wyse, & the vnderstandynge of theyr learned men shall peryshe.

Beholde youre God cometh, to take vengeaunce, and to rewarde, God commeth his owne selfe, & wyll delyuer you. ⁵ Then shall the eyes of the blynde be lyghtened, & the eares of the deafe opened. ⁶ Then shall the lame man leape as an herte, and the domme mans tunge shal geue thanckes. In the wyldernesse also there shall welles spryge, and floudes of water in the deserte.

³ A voyce cryeth: Prepare the waye for the Lorde in the wyldernesse, make streyght the path for oure God in the deserte.

¹ Beholde now therfore, thys is my seruaunte whom I wyll kepe to my selfe: myne electe, In whom my soule shalbe pacified. I wyll geue hym my sprete, that he may shewe forth iudgement & equyte amonge the Gentyles. ² He shall not be an outcryer, ner an hye mynded person. Hys voyce shall not be hearde in the stretes. ³ A brossed rede shall he not breake, and the smokyng flax shall he not quench, but faythfully and truly shall he geue iudgement. ⁴ He shall nether be ouersene ner hastye, that he maye restore ryghtuousnes vnto the earth: and the gentyles also shall kepe his lawes.

⁶ I the Lorde haue called the in rightuousnesse, & led the by the hande. Therfore wyll I also defende the, and geue the for a couenaunt of the people, and to be the lyght of the Gentyles. ⁷ That thou mayest open the eyes of the blynde, let out the prisoners, & them that syt in darknesse, out of the dongeon house.

⁸ Brynge forth that people, whether they haue eyes or be blynde, deafe or haue eares.

²² And therfore turne you vnto me (all ye endes of the earth) so shall ye be saued, for I am God, and there is els none. ²³ I sweare by my selfe, out of my mouth commeth the worde of ryghtuousnesse, and that maye no man turne: but all knees shall bowe vnto me, and all tunges shall sweare by me, ²⁴ sayinge: Verelye in the Lorde is my ryghtuousnes and strength. To hym shall men come: but all they that thyncke scorne of hym, shalbe confounded. ²⁵ And the whole sede of Israel shalbe iustyfyed, and praysed in the Lorde.

¹⁰ In the beginning of a thynge, I shewe the ende therof: & I tell before, thynges that are not yet come to passe. With one worde is my deuyce accomplyshed, & fulfylleth all my pleasure.

¹⁷ And thus sayeth the Lord God thyne auenger, the holye one of Israell: I am the Lorde thy God, whiche teache the profitable thynges, & leade the the waye, that thou shuldest go. ¹⁸ Yf thou wilt now regarde my commaundement, thy welthynes shalbe as the water streame, and thy ryghteousnes as the waues flowynge in the sea.

² He shall growe before the Lorde lyke as a braunche, and as a rote in a drye grounde, he shall haue neither bewtye nor fauoure. When we loke vpon him there shalbe no fayrenesse: we shall haue no lust vnto him ³ He shalbe the most simple, and despysed of all, which yet hath good experience of sorowes & infyrmyties. We shall reken him so symple and so vyle, that we shall hyde our faces from hym.

Come bye wine & mylcke, without any money or money worth. ² Wherfore do ye laye oute youre moneye, for the thing that fedeth not, and spende youre laboure aboute the thynge that satisfyed you not. But herken rather vnto me, & ye shall eate of the beste, & youre soule shall haue her pleasure in plentuousnes. ³ Encline youre eares, & come vnto me, take hede, & your soule shall lyue. For I wyll make an euerlastynge couenaunt wyth you, euen the sure mercyes of Dauid.

⁶ For I haue loked, & consydered: but there is no man that speaketh a good worde: there is no man that taketh repentaunce for hys synne, that wyll so muche as saye: wherfore haue I done thys? But euerye man (as sone as he is turned backe) runneth forth styl, lyke a wylde horse in a battayle.

¹⁷ Moreouer, thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: loke that ye call for mournynge wyues, and send for wyse wemen: that they come shortly, ¹⁸ & synge a mournyng song of you: that the teares maye fall oute of oure eyes, and that oure eye lyddes maye gusshe oute of water. ¹⁹ For there is a lamentable noyse heard of Sion: O how are we so sore destroyed? O howe are we so piteously confounded? We muste forsake oure owne naturall countreye, & we are shote out of oure owne lodgynges. ²⁰ Yet heare the worde of the Lorde (O ye wemen) and let your eares regard the wordes of hys mouth: that ye may learne your doughters to mourne, and that euerye one maye teache her neighbouresse, to make lamentacyon.

²⁷ thy aduoutrye, thy deedly malice, thy beastlinesse and thy shamefull whordome. For vpon the feldes and hylles I haue sene thy abhominacions. Wo be vnto the (O Ierusalem) when wylt thou euer be clensed eny more?

¹⁷ I dwell not amonge the scorners, nether is my delyte therin: but I dwell only in the feare of thy hand, for thou hast fylled me with bytternes.

⁸ Thou shalt not go in to their feaste house, to syt downe, moche lesse to eate or drincke with them. ⁹ For thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes the God of Israell: Beholde, I shall take awaye out of this place, the voyce of myrth and gladnesse, the voyce of the brydegrome and of the bryde: yee & that in youre dayes, that ye maye se it.

⁵ Beholde, the tyme commeth, sayeth the Lorde, that I will rayse vp the ryghtuous braunche of Dauid, which shall beare rule, and discusse matters wyth wysdome, & shall sett vp equyte & rightuousnes agayne in the earth. ⁶ In hys tyme shall Iuda be saued and Israell shall dwell without feare. ¹ Aleph. Alas, how hath the Lorde darkened the daughter of Syon so sore in hys wrath? As for the honour of Israel, he hath casten it downe from heauen: How happeneth it, that he remembred not hys owne fote stole when he was angrye?

I wil scrape the ground from her, & make her a bare stone: ⁵ yea as the dryinge place, where the fyshers hange vp their nettes by the sea syde. Euen I haue spoken it, sayeth the Lorde God. The gentyles shal spoile her: ⁶ her doughters vpon the felde shall peryshe with the swerde, that they may knowe, how that I am the Lorde. ⁷ For thus sayeth the Lord God: Beholde, I will bringe hither Nabuchodonozor (which is the Kynge of Babylon, and a kinge of kinges) from the North vpon Tire, with horses charettes, horsmen, and with a greate multytude of people. ⁸ Thy doughters that are in the lande, shall he slaye with the swearde: but agaynst the, he shal make bulworckes & graue vp diches aboute the, & lyft vp his shylde againste the. ⁹ His slynges and batelrammes shall he prepare for thy walles, and with his weapens breake doune thy towres. ¹⁰ The dust of his horses shall couer the: they shalbe so many: thy walles shall shake at the noyse of the horse men, charettes and wheles: when he cometh to thy portes, as men do into an open cyty. ¹¹ With the hostes of his horse fete, shall he treade doune all thy stretes. He shall sleye thy people with the swerde, & breake doune the pylers of thy strengthe. ¹² They shal wast awaye thy riches, and spoile thy marchaundyse. Thy walles shall they breake doune, and destroy thy houses of pleasure. Thy stones, thy timbre and foundacions shal they cast in the water. ¹³ Thus will I bring the melody of thy songes, and the voyce of thy minstrelsy to an ende, so that they shall no more be hearde. ¹⁴ I will make a bare stone of the, yea a dryinge places for nettes, & shalt neuer be builded agayne: For euen I the lord haue spoken it, sayeth the Lorde God: ¹⁵ thus hath the Lord God spoken concerning Tire. Yea with tremblinge shal they be clothed, they shall syt vpon the ground: they shalbe afrayed at thy soden fall, and be abashed at the. ¹⁷ They shall mourne for the, and saye vnto the: O thou noble city, that hast bene so greatly occupyed of olde, thou that haste bene the strongest vpon the sea with thine inhabitours of whom al men stode in feare: How art thou nowe so vtterlye destroyed? ¹⁸ Nowe at the tyme of thy fal the inhabytoures of the Iles, yea and the Iles them selues, shall stande in feare at thyne ende. ¹⁹ For thus sayeth the Lord God: when I make the a desolate cytye (as other cities be, that no man dwell in) and when I brynge the depe vpon the, that greate waters maye couer the: ²⁰ Then wyl I cast the doune vnto them, that descende into the pytte: vnto a people that hath bene longe deade, and set the in a lande that is beneth, lyke the olde wildernesse, with them whiche go doune to their graues, so that no man shall dwell more in the. Thoughe thou be sought for, yet shalte thou not be founde for euermore, sayeth the Lorde God.

¹² Thou sonne of man, make a lamentable complaynte ouer the kynge of Tyre, and tell hym: Thus sayth the Lorde God: Thou arte a seale of a lykenesse, full of wysdome & excellente beutye. ¹³ Thou hast ben in the pleasaunte garden of God: thou art dect with all maner of precyous stones: wyth Ruby, Topas, Christal, Iacincte, Onic, Iaspys, Saphyr, Smaragde, Carbuncle, and golde. Thy bewty and the holes that be in the, were set forthe in the daye of thy creacyon. ¹⁴ Thou arte a fayre Cherub, stretched wyde oute for to couer. I haue set the vpon the holye mounte of God, there hast thou bene, and walked among the fayre glysterynge stones. ¹⁵ From the tyme of thy creacyon thou haste bene ryghte excellent, tyll wyckednesse was founde in the. ¹⁶ Because of thy greate marchaundyse, thy hert is full of wickednesse, and thou haste offended. Therfore wyll I caste the from the mounte of God (O thou couerynge Cherub) and destroye the among the glisteryng stones. ¹⁷ Thy herte was proud in thy fayre beuty, & thorow thy beuty thou haste destroyed thy wysdom. I wil cast the doune to the ground, & that in the sight of kinges. ¹⁸ Thou haste defyled thy sanctuarye, wyth the great wyckednesse of thy vnryghteous occupyenge. I wyl brynge a fyre from the myddest of the, to consume the: and wyll make the to ashes, in the syghte of al them that loke vpon the. ¹⁹ All they that haue bene acquaynted with the amonge the Heathen shalbe abashed at the, seynge thou arte so cleane brought to naught, and commest no more vp.

¹⁸ Thou sonne of man, Nabuchodonosor the kynge of Babylon hath made hys hoste, wyth greate trauayle and laboure to come before Tyre: that euerye head may be balde, and euerye shoulder bare. Yet hath Tyre geuen neyther hym nor hys hoost anye rewarde, for the greate trauayle that he hath taken there.

¹⁶ I wyll make the Heathen shake at the sounde of hys fall, when I caste hym doune to hell, with them that descende into the pytte. All the trees of Eden, with all the chosen and best trees of Lybanus, yea and all they that are planted vpon the waters, shall mourne with him also in the lower habytacyons: ¹⁷ for they shall go doune to hell wyth hym, vnto them that be slayne with the swearde, whiche dwelte afore vnder the shadowe of hys arme amonge the Heathen.

³⁵ in comparison of whom al they that dwel vpon the earth, are to be reputed as nothinge. He handleth accordinge to hys wyl, among the powers of heauen & amonge the inhabytours of the earthe: and there is none that maye resyste hys hande, or say: what doest thou?

²⁴ .Lxx. weakes are determed ouer thy people, and ouer the holy citie: that the wickednesse maye be consumed, that the sinne maye haue an ende, that the offence may be reconcyled, and to bringe in euerlastinge righteousnesse, to fulfill the visions and the Prophetes, and to annoynte the most holy one. ²⁵ Vnderstande this then, and marcke it well, that from the tyme it shalbe concluded, to go and repayre Ierusalem againe, vnto Christ (or the annointed) prince: there shalbe seuen weakes. Then shal the stretes and walles be buylded again .lxij. weakes, but wyth harde troublous time. ²⁶ After these .lxii. weakes shall Christ be slaine and they shall haue no pleasure in hym. Then shall there come a people with the Prince, and destroye the cytie and the Sanctuarye: & his ende shall come as the water floude. But the desolacion shall continue till the ende of the battell.

⁵ But afterwarde shall the children of Israell conuerte, and seke the Lorde their God: and Dauid their kinge: & in the latter dayes, they shall worshyppe the Lorde, and hys louynge kindnesse.

⁷ Be ye sure (O Israel) the tyme of visitacyon is come, the dayes of recompensynge are at hande. As for the Prophete, ye holde hym for a foole: and him that is ryche in the spyrite for a mad man: so great is youre wickednes and malice.

²⁸ After this, wil I poure out my sprete vpon all fleshe: and your sonnes & your doughters shall prophecye: youre olde men shall dreame dreames, & youre yong men shal se visyons ²⁹ yea in those dayes I wyll poure out my sprite vpon seruauntes and maydens. ³⁰ I wyll shewe wonders in heauen aboue, and tokens in the earth beneth: bloude and fyre, and the vapour of smoke. ³¹ The sunne shalbe turned into darcknes, & the mone into bloude: before the greate & notable daye of the Lorde come. ³² And the time shal come, that whosoeuer calleth on the name of the Lorde, shalbe saued. For vpon the mount Syon & at Ierusalem, there shalbe a saluacion, lyke as the Lorde hath promysed, yea & among the other remnaunte, whome the Lorde shall call.

⁹ Thus sayeth the Lorde: For thre and foure wyckednesses of the cytye of Tyre, I wil not spare her, because they haue increased the captyuite of the Edomytes, and haue not remembred the brotherly couenaunt. ¹⁰ Therfore wil I sende a fyre into the walles of Tyre, that shal consume her palaces.

¹¹ At that tyme wyll I buylde agayne the tabernacle of Dauid, that is fallen downe and hedge vp hys gappes: and loke what is broken, I shall repayre it: Yee I shall buylde it agayne, as it was a fore tyme, ¹² that they maye possesse the remnaunt of Edom, yee & all soch people as call vpon my name wyth them sayeth the Lorde, whyche doeth these thynges.

⁴ But though thou wentest vp as hye as the Aegle, and maydest thy nest aboue amonge the starres: yet wylde I plucke the downe from thence.

Because I made Moses, Aaron and Miriam to lede the? ⁵ Remembre (O my people) what Balach the kyng of Moab had Imagyned agaynst the, and what answeree that Balaam the sonne of Beor gaue hym, from Sethim vnto Galgal, that ye maye know the louyng kyndnesses of the Lorde. ⁶ What acceptable thynge shall I offre vnto the Lord? shall I bowe my knee to the hye God? Shall I come before hym wyth brentoffrynges, and wyth calues of a yeare olde? ⁷ Hath the Lorde a pleasure in many thousand rammes, or innumerable streames of oyle? Or shal I geue my fyrstborne for myne offences, and the fruyte of my body for the synne of my soule? ⁸ I wyll shewe the, O man, what is good, & what the Lorde requyreth of the: Namely, to do right, to haue pleasure in louynge kyndnesse, to be lowlye, and to walcke wyth thy God:

¹⁴ Geue thankes O doughter Syon, be ioyfull O Israell, reioyce and be glad from thy whole herte, O doughter Ierusalem, ¹⁵ for the Lorde hath taken awaye thy punyshemente, and turned backe thyne enemyes. The kynge of Israell, euen the Lorde hymselfe is with the: so that thou nedest no more to feare any mysfortune. ¹⁶ In that tyme it shall be sayed to Ierusalem: feare not, and to Syon: let not thyne handes be slacke, ¹⁷ for the Lorde thy GOD is with the, it is he that hath power to saue: he hath a specyall pleasure in the, & a maruelous loue towarde the: yea, he reioyseth ouer the wyth gladnesse.

⁷ yea, I will moue al heathen, & the comforte of all Heathen shall come, and so wyll I fyl thys house wyth honoure, sayeth the Lorde of hostes.

² sayinge. Where is he that is borne kinge of Iewes? We haue sene his star in the east, and are come to worshyppe hym. ³ When Herode the kinge had herde this, he was troubled, and al Ierusalem with him, ⁴ and he gathered al the chiefe priestes and scribes of the people, & axed of them where Christe shoulde be borne. ⁵ And they sayd vnto hym: at Bethleem in Iury. For thus it is wrytten by the prophete. ⁶ And thou Bethleem in the land of Iury, art not the least concerning the Princes of Iuda. For out of the shal come the captaine, that shall gouerne my people Israel.

For so persecuted they the prophetes which were before your dayes.

¹⁷ Thinke not that I am come to destroy the lawe, or the prophetes: no I am not come to destroy them, but to fulfil them. ¹⁸ For truly I say vnto you, til heauen & earth perish, one iote or one title of the lawe shal not escape, til al be fulfilled ¹⁹ Whosoeuer therfore breaketh one of these lest commaundementes, & teacheth men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdome of heauen. But whosoeuer obserueth & teacheth, the same shal be called great in the kingdom of heauen.

²⁴ Whosoeuer heareth of me these sayinges and doethe the same, I wyll lyken hym vnto a wyse man which buylt hys housse on a rocke

³ For Herode had taken Ihon and bounde hym, & put hym in pryson for Herodias sake hys brother Philips wyfe.

And the man beleued the wordes that Iesus had spoken vnto hym, and went hys way. ⁵¹ And anone as he went on his waye, hys seruauntes mette hym and tolde hym sayinge, thy chylde lyueth. ⁵² Then enquered he of them the houre when he began to amende, and they saied vnto hym: yester daye the seuenth houre the feuer lefte hym. ⁵³ And the father knewe that it was the same houre in whyche Iesus sayed vnto hym: Thy sonne lyueth. And he beleued and al his housholde. ⁵⁴ This is againe the, seconde miracle, that Iesus dyd after he was come out of Iury into Galile.

And they that heare shall lyue. ²⁶ For as the father hath lyfe in him selfe, so lykewyse hath he geuen to the sonne to haue lyfe in him selfe, ²⁷ and hath geuen him power also to iudge, in that he is the sonne of man. ²⁸ Maruaile not at this, the houre shall come in the which all that are in the graues, shal heare his voice, ²⁹ and shall come forth: they that haue done good, vnto the resurreccion of lyfe, and they that hath done euil, vnto the resurreccion of damnacion.

² There they made hym a supper, & Martha serued: but Lazarus was one of them that sate at the table with hym. ³ Then toke Mary a pounde of oyntment called Nardus, perfecte and precyous, and annoynted Iesus fete, and wepte hys fete with her heare, and the house was fylled wyth the sauoure of the oyntmente. ⁴ Then sayed one of hys disciples named Iudas Iscarioth Simons sonne. whiche afterwarde betrayed him: ⁵ why was not thys oyntment solde for thre .C. pens and geuen to the poore? ⁶ Thys sayed he, not that he cared for the poore, but because he was a thiefe, and kepte the bagge, and bare that whiche was geuen. ⁷ Then sayed Iesus Let her alone, agaynste the daye of my buriynge the kept it. ⁸ The poore alwayes shall ye haue with you, but me shall ye not alwayes haue.

³⁸ that the saiynge of Esayas the Prophete myght be fulfylled, that he spake. Lorde, who shall beleue our saiyng? And to whome is the arme of the Lorde opened? ³⁹ Therfore coulde they not beleue, because that Esayas sayth agayne: ⁴⁰ he hath blynded theyr eyes and hardened theyr hertes, that they shoulde not se with theyr eyes, and vnderstand with theyr hertes, and shoulde be conuerted, and I shoulde heale them.

³ Iesus knowyng that the father had geuen all thynges into hys handes, and that he was come from God, and went to God,

¹⁵ For I haue geuen you an ensample, that ye shoulde do as I haue done to you.

¹⁷ Yf ye vnderstande these thynges, happye are ye yf ye do then.

⁶ Iesus sayd vnto hym: I am the waye, the truthe and the lyfe. And no man commeth to the father, but by me. ⁷ Yf ye had knowen me, ye had knowen my father also. And nowe ye knowe hym, & haue sene hym. ⁸ Philip sayde vnto hym: Lorde shewe vs the father, and it suffyseth vs. ⁹ Iesus sayd vnto hym. Haue I bene so longe tyme with you, and yet haste thou not knowen me? Philip, he that hath sene me, hath sene the father. And how sayest thou then: shew vs the father?

¹¹ Beleue ye not that I am in the father, and the father in me? At the least beleue me for the very workes sake. ¹² Verely, verely I saye vnto you, he that beleueth on me, the workes that I do, the same shal he do, and greater workes then these shal he do, because I go vnto my father.

²¹ He that hathe my commaundementes and kepeth them, the same is he that loueth me. And he that loueth me, shal be loued of my father: And I will loue hym, and will shewe myne owne selfe to him. ²² Iudas sayd vnto hym (not Iudas Iscarioth) Lord what is the cause that thou wilte shewe thy selfe vnto vs, & not vnto the worlde? ²³ Iesus aunswered and sayd vnto hym, yf a man loue me, and will kepe my saiynges, my father also will loue hym & we will come vnto hym, and will dwell to hym. ²⁴ He that loueth me not, kepeth not my saiynges. And the wordes whiche ye heare, are not myne, but the fathers which sent me.

² as thou haste geuen hym power ouer all flesh, that he should geue eternall lyfe to as manye as thou hast geuen hym. ³ This is lyfe eternall that they myghte knowe, the that onely very God, and whome thou haste sente Iesus Christ.

⁶ I haue declared thy name vnto the men which thou gauest me out of the worlde. Thyne they were and thou gauest them me, and they haue kepte thy saiynges.

And immedyatlye hys fete and ancle bones receyued strength. ⁸ And he sprange, stode and also walked, and entred wyth them into the temple, walkynge and leaping and laudinge God.

⁹ if we thys day are examined of the good dede done to the sicke man by what meanes he is made whole: ¹⁰ be it knowen vnto you all and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Iesus Christe of Nazareth, whom ye crucifyed, and whom God raysed agayne from deathe, euen by hym doth thys man stande here presente before you whole.

³⁷ This is that Moises which said vnto the children of Israell: A Prophet shall the Lorde your God rayse vp vnto you of youre brethren, lyke vnto me, him shal ye heare.

⁴² And he commaunded vs to preache vnto the people & testifye that it is he that is ordeined of God a iudge of quicke and deade.

²⁰ Herode was displeased with them of Tyre & Sydon, And they came all at once, and made intercessyon vnto Blastus the kinges chamberlayne, & desyred peace, because theyr countrey was nouryshed by the kynges lande.

²⁷ The inhabiters of Ierusalem & theyr rulers, because they knowe him not, nor yet the voices of the prophetes which are reade euerye Saboth daye, they haue fulfylled them in condempnyng hym.

⁴⁴ And the next Saboth day came almost the whole citie together, to heare the worde of God. ⁴⁵ When the Iewes saw the people, they were ful of indignacyon & spake agaynste those thynges, whiche were spoken of Paule, speakynge agaynst it, and railynge on it. ⁴⁶ Then Paule and Barnabas wexed bolde, and sayed: it was mete that the worde of God shoulde fyrste haue ben preached to you. But seynge, ye put it from you, and thynke youre selues vnworthy of euerlastyng lyfe: lo, we turne to the gentyls: ⁴⁷ For so hath the Lorde commaunded vs: I haue made the a lyghte to the gentyls, that thou be the saluacion to the ende of the worlde. ⁴⁸ The gentyls hearde and were glad & glorifyed the worde of the Lorde, and beleued euen as many as were ordeyned vnto eternal lyfe.

⁸ And there sate a certayne man at Listra weake in hys fete, beyng creple from hys mothers wombe, and neuer walked. ⁹ The same hearde Paule preache. Whiche behelde hym, and perceyued that he had faythe to be whole, ¹⁰ and sayed with a loude voyce stande vpryght on the fete. And he sterte vp, & walked.

¹⁰ Now therfore why tempte ye God, that ye woulde put a yoke on the disciples neckes, which neyther our fathers nor we were able to beare.

²⁸ For it semed good to the holye ghost & to vs, to put no greuous thyng to you more then these necessarye thynges,

³ And the next day we came to Sidon. And Iulius courteously entreated Paule, and gaue hym libertie to go vnto his frendes, and to refreshe him selfe.

²⁵ When they agreed not amonge them selues, they departed, after that Paule had spoken one word: Welspake the holy ghoste by Esay the prophet vnto youre fathers, saiyng: go vnto thys people, ²⁶ and saye: wyth youre eares shall ye heare, & shall not vnderstande: and wyth youre eies shal ye se and shall not perceiue. ²⁷ For the hert of this people is waxed grosse and their eares were thicke of hearinge, and theyr eyes haue they closed: lest they should se with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and vnderstande with their hertes, and should be conuerted, and I should heale them. ²⁸ Be it knowen therfore vnto you, that this saluation of God is sente to the gentyls, and they shall heare it.

²¹ Nowe verelye is the ryghteousnes that commeth of God, declared withoute the fulfyllynge of lawe, hauynge wytnes yet of the lawe and of the Prophetes.

²² I delite the lawe of God, concernynge the inner man. ²³ But I se another lawe in my membres rebellynge agaynst the lawe of my mynde and subduynge me vnto the lawe of synne whyche is in my membres. ²⁴ O wretched man that I am: who shall deliuer me frome this bodye of deathe? ²⁵ I thanke God thorowe Iesus Christe oure Lorde. So then I my selfe in my mynde serue the law of God, & in my flesh the lawe of synne.

¹⁸ So hath he mercie on whom he wyll, and whom he wyll, he maketh harde herted.

³² And wherfore? Because they sought it not by fayth: but as it were by the workes of the lawe. For they haue stombled at the stomblynge stone. ³³ As it is wrytten. Beholde I put in Syon a stomblyng stone, and a rocke which shall make men faule. And none that beleue on hym, shalbe a shamed.

⁸ accordynge as it is wrytten. God hath geuen them the spirite of vnquyetnes: eyes that they should not se, and eares that they shoulde not heare euen vnto thys daye. ⁹ And Dauyd sayth: Let theyr table be made a snare to take them wyth all, and an occasyon to fall, and a reward vnto them. ¹⁰ Let theyr eyes be blynded that they se not: and euer bowe doune theyr backes.

³³ O the deapnes of the abundaunte wysedome and knoweledge of God: howe vnsearcheable are his iudgementes, and hys wayes paste fyndynge out? ³⁴ For who hath knoweth the mynde of the Lord? Or who was his counseller? ³⁵ Other who hath geuen vnto hym fyrst that he myghte be recompensed agayne? ³⁶ For of hym, and thorowe hym, and for hym, are all thynges. To hym be glorye for euer. Amen

² Let euery man please his neyghboure vnto his wealth and edifiynge.

²⁵ To hym that is of power to stablysh you, accordynge to my Gospell and preachinge of Iesus Christe, in vtterynge of the mysterye whiche was kepte secrete sence the worlde began, ²⁶ but nowe is opened by the scriptures of prophesye, at the commaundemente of the euerlastynge God, to stere vp obedience to the fayth publyshed among all nacions:

¹⁸ For the preachyng of the crosse is to them that peryshe folyshnes, but vnto vs whiche are saued, it is the power of God. ¹⁹ For it is written: I will destroye the wysdome of the wyse, and wyll caste awaye the vnderstandinge of the prudent. ²⁰ Where is the wyse? Where is the scribe? Where is the searcher of this worlde? ²¹ Hath not God made the wysdome of thys worlde folyshnes? For when the world thorough wysdome knewe not God, in the wisdom of God, it pleased God thorough folishnes of preachynge to saue them that beleue. ²² For the Iewes require a signe, and the Grekes seke after wisdom.

And God hath chosen the weake thinges of the worlde, to confounde thynges, whyche are myghty. ²⁸ And vile thinges of the world, and thinges whiche are despysed, hath God chosen, yea and thinges of no reputation for to bringe to nought thinges of reputation, ²⁹ that no flesh shoulde reioise in his presence.

⁶ That we speake of, is wisdome amonge that are perfecte: not the wisdome of this world (whiche go to nought) ⁷ but we speake that wysdome of God, whiche is in secrete and lyeth hyd, whiche God ordeined before the world vnto oure glory, ⁸ whiche wisdome none of the rulars of this worlde knewe. For had they knowen it, they would not haue crucified the Lorde of Glorye.

¹⁴ For the naturall man perceiueth not the thinges of the spyrite of God. For they are but folishnes vnto him. Neither can he perceiue them, because he is spiritually examined.

² I gaue you milke to drinke, & not meat. For ye then were not stronge, no neyther yet are. For ye are yet carnall.

¹⁸ Let no man deceyue hym selfe. Yf anye man seme, wyse amonge you, let hym be a fole in thys worlde that he maye be wyse. ¹⁹ For the wysdome of this worlde is folyshnes wyth God. For it is wrytten: he compaseth the wyse in theyr craftynes. ²⁰ And agayne, God knoweth the thoughtes of the wyse that they be vayne.

¹¹ Euen vnto this daye we honger and thyrst, and are naked, and are boffetted wyth fystes, and haue no certayne dwellinge place,

⁴ Yf ye haue iudgementes of worldlye matters, take them whiche are despised in the congregacion, and make them iudges.

¹⁹ For though I be fre from all men, yet haue I made my selfe seruaunte vnto all men, that I myght winne the mo. ²⁰ Vnto the Iewes, I became as a Iewe, to winne the Iewes. To them that were vnder the lawe, was I made as though I had ben vnder the lawe, to winne them that were vnder the lawe. ²¹ To them that were without lawe, became I as though I had ben without the lawe (when I was not without lawe as perteyninge to God, but vnder a lawe as concerninge Christe) to wynne them that were without lawe.

⁹ For I am the leste of al the Apostles, whiche am not worthy to be called an Apostle, because I persecuted the congregation of God.

²⁵ For he muste reigne tyll he haue put all hys enemies vnder his fete. ²⁶ The laste enemy that shalbe destroied is death. ²⁷ For he hath put all thinges vnder hys fete. But when he sayeth, all thinges are put vnder hym it is manifest that he is excepted, whyche dyd put all thinges vnder him.

⁴ whiche comforteth vs in all oure tribulacion, in so muche that we are able to comforte them, which are troubled in whatsoeuer tribulation it be, with the same comforte wherwith we our selues are comforted of God. ⁵ For as the affliccions of Christ are plenteous in vs: euen so is our consolacion plenteous by Christe.

¹⁷ When I thus wyse was mynded: dyd I vse lyghtnes? Or thynke I carnallye those thinges, which I thinke? that with me should be yea yea, and nay nay? ¹⁸ God is faithfull. For oure preaching vnto you, was not yea & nay.

¹⁴ But theyr myndes were blynded. For vntil thys daye remayneth the same couerynge vntaken awaye in the olde testament when they reade it, whiche in Christe is put awaye.

³ Yf oure Gospell be yet hyd, it is hyd among them that are loste, ⁴ in whome the God of thys worlde hath blynded the myndes of them which beleue not, leste the lyght of the gloryous gospell of Christe which is the ymage of God shoulde shyne vnto them. ⁵ For we preache not oure selues, but Christ Iesus to be the Lorde, and oure selues youre seuauntes for Iesus sake. ⁶ For it is God that commaunded the lighte to shyne out of darknes, whiche hath shyned in oure hertes, for to geue the lyghte of the knoweledge of the glorye of God, in the face of Iesus Christe.

¹⁷ For oure excedynge trybulation whiche is momentanye and lyghte, prepareth an excedynge and eternall wayghte of glory vnto vs,

¹ I Paule my selfe beseche you by the mekenesse and softenes of Christe, whiche when I am present amonge you, am of no reputacion, but am bolde toward you beynge absent,

⁵ wherewith we ouerthrowe Imaginations and euerye hye thynge that exalteth it selfe agaynste the knoweledge of God, and brynge into captiuite all vnderstandynge to the obedience of Christe,

²⁷ in laboure and trauayle, in watchyng often, in hunger, in thyrste, in fastynges often, in colde, and in nakednes.

⁹ And he sayde vnto me: my grace is suffycyent for the. For my strengthe is made perfecte thorowe weakenes. Very gladly therfor wil I reioyce of my weakenes, that the strength of Christe maye dwell in me ¹⁰ Therfore haue I delectacyon in infyrmities, in rebukes, in nede, in persecutions, in anguyshe, for Christes sake. For when I am weake, then am I stronge.

¹ Stande fast therfore in the lybertye wherewith Christ hath made vs free and wrappe not your selues againe in the yoke of bondage.

¹¹ Brethren, yf I yet preache circumcysyon: why do I yet suffer persecutyon? For then had the offence whiche the crosse geueth, ceased.

²⁰ whiche he wrought in Christe, when he raysed hym from the dead, and set hym on hys ryght hande in heauenly thynges, ²¹ aboue all rule, power, and myghte, and domynyon, and aboue all names that are named, not in thys worlde onely, but also in the worlde to come, ²² and hath put all thynges, vnder hys fete, and hath made hym aboue all thynges the heade of the congregacyon, ²³ which is hys bodye, and the fulnes of hym that fylleth all in all thynges.

³ amonge whiche we also had our conuersation in tyme paste, in the lustes of oure fleshe, and fulfylled the wyll of the fleshe and of the mynde, and were naturallye the chyldren of wrath, euen as well as other.

⁵ Let the same mynde be in you that was in Christ Iesu:

⁷ Neuerthelesse he made hym selfe of no reputation, & toke on him the shap of a seruaunt, and became lyke vnto men, ⁸ and was founde in hys aparell as a man. He humbled hym selfe, and became obediente vnto the death euen the death of the crosse.

¹⁰ that in the name of Iesus should euerye knee bowe, both of thinges in heauen and thinges in earth, and thinges vnder the earth, ¹¹ and that al tounges should confesse that Iesus Christ is the Lorde vnto the prayse of God the father. ¹² Wherfore my dearlye beloued, as ye haue alwayes obeyed, not when I was presente onelye, but nowe much more in myne absence euen so worke out your owne saluacion wt feare and trembling.

¹³ But we are bounde to geue thankes alwaye to God for you brethren beloued of the Lorde, because that God hath from the beginnynge chosen you to saluacyon, thorow sanctifiynge of the spyryte, and thorowe beleuing the truet ¹⁴ whereunto he called you by oure Gospell, to obtayne the glorye that commeth of oure Lorde Iesu Christe.

⁶ We requyre you brethren in the name of oure Lorde Iesu Christ, that ye wythdrawe your selues from euerye brother that walketh inordinatelye and not after the institucyon whiche ye receyued of vs.

¹⁰ For when we were with you thys we warned you of, that yf there were any whiche woulde not worke, that the same shoulde not eate.

²⁵ the euyll in meakenes, and can informe them that resiste: yf that God at any tyme wyll geue them repentaunce for to know the trueth, ²⁶ that they may come to them selues agayne out of the snare of the deuyll, whiche are nowe taken of hym at hys wyll.

³ howe shal we escape, yf we despise so great saluacyon, whyche at the fyrst began to be preached of the Lorde hym selfe, and afterward was confirmed to vswarde, by them that hearde it,

⁸ Thou hast put all thinges in subieccion vnder hys fete. In that he put al thinges vnder hym, he lefte nothinge that is not put vnder him. ⁹ Neuertheles we yet se not all thinges subdued, but him that was made lesse then the Angelles, we se that it was Iesus, whiche is crowned with glory and honoure for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God, should taste of death for al men. ¹⁰ For it became him, for whom are al thynges and by whom are al thinges, after that he had brought many sonnes vnto glory, that he should make the Lorde of their saluacyon perfect thorowe sufferinge.

¹ Let vs feare therfore leste anye of vs forsakinge the promes of entringe into his reste, shoulde seme to come behinde.

³ But we whiche haue beleued, do enter into his reste, as contrarywyse he sayde to the other: I haue sworne in my wrath, they shal not enter into my rest. And that spake he verely longe after that the workes were made, and the foundacion of the worlde layde. ⁴ For he spake in a certaine place of the seuenth day, on this wyse: And God dyd reste the seuenth daye from all his workes. ⁵ And in this place againe: They shall not come into my reste. ⁶ Seynge therfore it foloweth that some must inter therinto, and they to whom it was fyrst preached, intred not therin for vnbeleues sake: ⁷ Againe he appointeth in Dauid a certaine present day after so longe a tyme, saiynge as it is rehearsed, this daye yf ye heare his voice, be not harde herted. ⁸ For yf Iosue had geuen them reste, then woulde he not afterwarde haue spoken of another day. ⁹ There remayneth therfore yet a rest to the people of God. ¹⁰ For he that is entred into his reste doth cease from his owne workes, as God dyd from his. ¹¹ Let vs study therfore to enter into the reste, leste anye man falle after the same ensample, into vnbelefe.

⁹ and was made perfect, and the cause of eternall saluacyon vnto all them that obey him,

⁴ For it is not possible that they whiche were ones lyghted, and haue tasted of the heauenly gyft, and were become partakers of the holy ghoste, ⁵ and haue tasted of the good worde of God, and of the worlde to come: ⁶ yf they fall, shoulde be renued agayne vnto repentaunce: for as muche as they haue (as concernynge them selues) crucifyed the sonne of God a freshe makynge a mocke of hym. ⁷ For that earthe whiche drincketh in the rayne whiche commeth ofte vpon it, and bryngeth forth herbes mete for them that dresse it, receyueth blessynge of God. ⁸ But that ground which beareth thornes and bryars, is reproued, and is nye vnto curssynge: whose ende is to be burned.

²⁶ For yf we synne wyllyngly after that we haue receyued the knowledge of the trueth, ther remayneth no more sacryfyce for synnes, ²⁷ but a fearful lokynge for iudgement, and vyolente fyre, whyche shal deuoure the aduersaryes. ²⁸ He that despyseth Moyses lawe, dyeth wythout mercye vnder two or thre wytnesses ²⁹ Of howe muche sorer punyshement suppose ye shal he be counted worthy, whych treadeth vnder fote the sonne of God: and counted the bloud of the testament as an vnholy thynge wherwyth he was sanctyfyed, and doth dishonour to the spyryte of grace. ³⁰ For we knowe hym that hath sayde: vengeaunce belongeth vnto me. I wyll recompence sayth the lorde. And agayne: the lord shall iudge hys people. ³¹ It is a fearfull thynge to falle into the handes of the lyuynge God.

³⁷ For yet a very lyttel whyle, and he that shall come wyll come, and wyll not tarye.

⁴⁰ God prouydynge a better thynge for vs, that they wythoute vs shoulde not be made perfecte.

⁵ Yf anye of you lacke wysedome, let hym axe of God whiche geueth to all men indyfferentlye, and casteth no man in the teath: and it shal be geuen hym. ⁶ But let hym axe it in faith and wauer not. For he that doubteth is lyke the waues of the sea, toste of the wyndes & caried wyth vyolence.

⁵ Harken my deare beloued brethren. Hath not God chosen the pore of thys world, which are ryche in faythe, and heyres of the kyngedome whiche he promysed to them that loue hym?

¹⁰ Of whiche saluacyon haue the Prophetes enquyred and searched, whiche prophesyed of the grace that shoulde come vnto you,

⁸ and a stone to stomble at, and a rocke to offende them whiche stomble at the word, and beleue not that whereon they were set.

²¹ for here vnto verelye were ye called: for Christe also suffered for vs, leauynge vs an ensample that we shoulde folowe his steppes, ²² whiche dyd no synne, neyther was there gyle founde in hys mouth: ²³ which when he was reuyled, reuyled not agayne: when he suffered, he threatened not: but commytted the cause to him that iudgeth ryghtuously,

²² whyche is on the right hande of God, and is gone into heauen, aungelles, power, and mighte, subdued vnto him.

⁴ For yf God spared not the aungels that sinned but cast them downe into hell, and deliuered them into chayns of darckenes, to be kept vnto iudgement, ⁵ neyther spared the olde worlde, but saued Noe the ryght preacher of rightuousnes, and brought in the floud vpon the worlde of the vngodly, ⁶ and turned the cyties of Sodom and Gomor into ashes, ouerthrowe them, dampned them, and made on them an ensample vnto all that after shoulde lyue vngodly. ⁷ And iust Lot vexed with the vnclenly conuersacyon of the wicked, deliuered he. ⁸ For he beinge rightuouse and dwellinge amonge them, in seinge and hearinge, vexed his rightuouse soule from daye to daye wyth theyr vnlawfull dedes. ⁹ The Lorde knoweth howe to deliuer the Godlye out of temptacion, and howe to reserue the vniuste vnto the daye of iudgement for to be punyshed,

⁷ But the heauens verely and earth, which are now are kept by the same worde in store, and reserued vnto fyre, agaynste the daye of iudgemente, and perdycyon of vngodlye men.

⁶ He that sayeth he abydeth in him ought to walke euen as he walked.

²³ Whosoeuer denyeth the sonne, the same hath not the father.

¹⁷ Herin is the loue perfect in vs, that we shoulde haue trust in the daye of iudgement: For as he is, euen so are we in thys worlde.

³ This is the loue of God, that we kepe his commaundementes, and his commaundementes are not greuous.

¹⁹ We knowe that we are of God, and that the world is altogether set on wyckednes. ²⁰ We know, that the sonne of God is come, & hath geuen vs a minde to know him which is true, & we are in him, that is true thorowe his sonne Iesus Christ. This same is verye God, and eternal lyfe.

⁹ Whosoeuer transgresseth and bydeth not in the doctryne of Christe, hath not God. He that endureth in the doctrine of Christe, hath both the father and the sonne.

⁷ euen as Sodome and Gomor, and the cytyes about them (which in lyke maner defyled them selues with fornicacyon, and folowed straunge fleshe) are sette forth for an ensample, and suffer the vengeaunce of eternal fyre.

¹¹ Wo be vnto them, for they haue folowed the waye of Cayn, and are vtterlye geuen to the errour of Balam for lukers sake, and peryshe in the treason of Core.

⁷ Let him that hath eares heare, what the spirite sayeth vnto the congregacions. To him that ouercommeth, wyl I geue to eate of the tree of lyfe, whyche is in the middes of the Paradyse of God.

¹¹ And I behelde, and I heard the voyce of many angels about the throne, and about the beastes, and the elders, and I heard thousande thousandes, ¹² sayinge wyth a loud voyce: Worthy is the lamb that was kylled to receiue power, and riches, and wysdome, and strength, and honoure, & glorye and blessing. ¹³ And al creatures whiche are in heauen, and on the earth, and vnder the earth, and in the sea, and al that are in them hearde I saiynge: blessing, honour, glory, and power be vnto him that sytteth vpon the seate, and to the Lambe for euermore. ¹⁴ And the foure beastes sayd Amen. And the .xxiiij. elders fel vpon theyr faces, and worshypped hym that liueth for euermore.

¹² saying, Amen: Blessing and glory, wisdome, and thankes, and honoure, and power & mighte, be vnto our God for euermore: Amen.

²⁰ And the remnaunt of the men which were not kylled by these plages, repented not of the dedes of their handes, that they should not worship deuyls, and Images of gold, and syluer, and brasse, and stone, and of wood, whych neyther can se, neyther heare, neyther go. ²¹ Also they repented not of theyr murther, and of theyr sorcery, neyther of their fornicacion, neither of their thefte.

³ And I will geue power vnto my .ij. witnesses, & they shal prophesy .M.ij.C. & .lx. daies, cloteth in sacke cloth.

⁸ And theyr bodies shal lye in the stretes of the great city, whiche spyrytually is called Sodome and Egypte, where oure Lorde was crucyfyed.

⁹ And the men raged in great heate, & spake euyl of the name of God which hath power ouer those plages, & they repented not, to geue him glory.

¹¹ & blasphemed the God of heauen for sorowe and payne of their sores, and repented not of theyr dedes.

⁴ And I saw seates and they sate vpon them and iudgement was geuen vnto them: & I saw the soules of them that were beheaded for the wytnes of Iesu, & for the worde of God, which had not worshypped the beast, nether his Image, nether had taken hys marke vpon theyr forheades, or on theyr handes: and they lyued, and reygned with Christ a thousande yere:

¹⁷ And the spiryte and the bride said: come. And let him that heareth, saye also come. And let hym that is a thyrste, come. And let whosoeuer wyll, take of the water of lyfe, fre.
