¹⁴ And assone as they were come, they saied vnto him: maister, we know that thou arte true, and carest for no man: for considerest not the degre of men, but teacheste the waye of God truly. Is it lawfull to paye trybute to Cesar or not.

² Thou shalt not folowe a multitude to do euell: neyther answere in a matter of plea that thou (wouldest to folow manye) turne asyde from the trueth, ³ neither shalt thou paint a pore mans cause. ⁴ When thou metest thine enemies oxe or asse goynge a straye, thou shalt brynge them to him agayne. ⁵ If thou se thine enemies asse synke vnder his burthen, thou shalt not passe by and let him alone: but shalt helpe hym to lyfte hym vp againe. ⁶ Thou shalt not hinder the right of the poore that are amonge you in their sute.

¹⁹ Wrest not the lawe nor know any person nether take any reward for giftes blind the wise & peruert the wordes of the ryghtuous.

⁹ He that saith vnto hys father and mother. I saw hym not and vnto hys brethren, I knewe not, and to hys sonne I wot not: for they haue obserued thy worde and kepte thy testamente. ¹⁰ They shall teach Iacob thy iudgementes & Israell thy lawes. They shall putte cens before thy nose & whole sacrifices vpon thyne aultare.

¹³ And Micheah sayde: as truly as the Lord lyueth, euen what my God sayeth, that wyl I speake.

⁷ Wherfore let the feare of the lord be wyth you, and take hede and do it. For there is no vnryghteousnesse in the Lord our God nor regarding of persones, nor taking of rewardes.

¹² Be it knowne vnto the kynge, that the Iewes are come vp from the to vs vnto Ierusalem a cytye sedycyous and frowarde, and buylde the same, and laye the foundacyon of the walles therof, and repaire them. ¹³ Be it knowne nowe therfore vnto the kynge that yf this cytye be buylded, and the walles made vp agayne, then shall not they geue trybute, tolle, and yearly custome, and euen vnto the kinges shal this hurt redound.

³⁷ And greate is the increase of it vnto the kynges, whome thou haste set ouer vs because of oure synnes, and they haue domynyon ouer oure bodyes and cattell, and we are in great trouble.

² Euery man telleth lyes too his neyghbour, they do but flatter with their lyppes and dissemble in their herte. ³ O that the Lorde wolde rote out all disceatfull lyppes, and the tonge that speaketh proude thynges. ⁴ Which saye: oure tonge shoulde preuayle we are they that oughte too speake, who is Lord ouer vs?

²¹ Their mouthes are softer then butter, & yet haue they battayll in theyr mynde: theyr wordes are smoother then oyle, and yet be they very swerdes.

² Delyuer my soule, O Lord from liyng lippes, and from a disceatful tonge.

²³ Venimous lippes and a wicked herte, are lyke a potsherde couered with syluer drosse. ²⁴ An enemy dissembleth with hys lyps, and in the meane season he ymagineth mischefe: ²⁵ but when he speaketh fayre, beleue hym not, for ther are seuen abhomynacons in hys herte. ²⁶ Who so kepeth euel wil, secretly to do hurte, his malice shalbe shewed before the whole congregacion.

⁷ for the Lorde God helpeth me, therfore shall I not be confounded. I haue hardened my face like a flynt stone, for I am sure, that I shall not come to confusyon. ⁸ Myne aduocate speaketh for me, who wyl then go with me to law? Let vs stand one agaynste another: yf there be any that wyll reason with me, let him come here forth to me. ⁹ Beholde the Lord God standeth by me, what is he that can condempne me? lo, they shalbe all lyke as an olde clothe, whiche the mothes shall eate vp.

¹⁹ Vpon these wordes, thus sayde the Lorde vnto me: If thou wylt turne agayne, I shall set the in my seruyce: and yf thou wylt take out the thynge that is precious from the vile, thou shalt be euen as myne owne mouth. They shall conuerte vnto the, but turne not thou vnto them: ²⁰ & so shall I make the a stronge wall of stele agaynst this people. They shall fyght agaynst the, but they shall not preuayle. For I my selfe will be with the, to helpe the, and delyuer the, sayeth the Lorde. ²¹ And I wyll rydd the out of the handes of the wycked, and delyuer the out of the hande of Tirauntes.

² and sayde vnto Ieremye the Prophet: O heare our peticion, that thou mayest pray for vs vnto the Lord thy God, and for the remnaunt, whereof there be very few left of manye, as thou seyst vs, ³ that the Lorde thy God may shew vs a way to go in & tell vs, what we shoulde do.

²⁰ els shall ye begyle youre selues. For ye sent me vnto the Lorde oure God, and sayde: O praye thou the lord oure God for vs: and loke what answere the lorde oure God geueth the, that brynge vs againe & we shall do therafter.

⁶ Therfore (thou sonne of man) feare them not, nether be afrayed of their wordes: for they shall rebell agaynst the, and despyse the. Yee thou shalt dwell amonge scorpions: but feare not their wordes, be not abashed at their lokes, for it is a frowarde housholde. ⁷ Se that thou speake my wordes vnto them, whether they be obedyent or not, for they are obstynate.

⁸ As for me, I am full of strength, and of the sprete of the Lorde, full of iudment and boldnesse: to shewe the house of Iacob their wyckednesse, and the house of Israell their synne.

²⁵ He sayd: yea. And when he was come into the house. Iesus spake fyrst to him, sayinge: What thinkest thou Simon? of whom do the kynges of the earth take tribute or pol money? of their chyldren, or of straungers? ²⁶ Peter sayde vnto hym: of straungers. Then sayde Iesus vnto hym agayne: Then are the chyldren fre. ²⁷ Neuerthelesse, lest we should offende them: go to the sea and caste in thyne angel, and take the fish that first cometh vp: & when thou hast opened hys mouth, thou shalt fynde a pece of twenty pence: that take and paye for me and the.

¹⁷ Tel vs therfor how thinkest thou. Is it lawful to giue tribute vnto Cesar or not?

⁴⁵ And assone as he was come, he went straighte waye to hym, and sayed vnto him: mayster, and kyssed him.

²² Is it laufull for vs to geue Cesar tribute or no?

² And they began to accuse hym saiynge: We haue founde thys felowe peruertinge the people & forbiddinge to paye tribute to Cesar, saiynge: that he is Christ a kinge.

¹⁸ He that speaketh of him selfe, seketh his owne prayse. But he that seketh his prayse that sent him, the same is true and no vnrightuousnes is in him.

⁶ And euen for thys cause paye ye trybute. For they are Goddes ministers, seruynge for the same purpose.

² For yf I make you sorye, who is it that shoulde make me glad, but the same which is made sorye by me?

¹⁷ For we are not as many are which choppe & chaunge with the worde of god: but euen out of purenes, and by the power of God, and in the syghte of God, so speake we in Christe.

¹ Therfore seynge that we haue suche an offyce, euen as mercye is come on vs, we faynte not:

¹¹ Seynge then that we know, how the Lorde is to be feared, we fare fayre with men. For we are knowen well ynoughe vnto God. I truste also that we are knowen in your consciences.

¹⁶ Wherfore hence forthe knowe we no man after the fleshe. In so muche though we haue knowen Christe after the fleshe, nowe hence forth knowe we hym so no more.

¹⁰ Preache I mans doctryne or Goddes? Eyther go I aboute to please men? Yf I studyed to please men, I were not the seruauat of Christe.

⁶ Of them whiche seme to be great (what they were in time passed, it maketh no matter to me: God loketh on no mans person) neuerthelesse they which seme great, added nothing to me.

¹¹ And when Peter was come to Antioche, I withstode hym in the face, for he was worthy to be blamed. ¹² For yer that certayne came from Iames, he eate with the Gentyls. But when they were come, he withdrue and separated hym selfe, fearyng them which were of the circumcysyon. ¹³ And the other Iewes dissembled lykewyse, in so muche that Barnabas was brought into theyr simulacyon also. ¹⁴ But when I sawe, that they went not the ryghte waye after the truth of the Gospell, I sayde vnto Peter before all men, yf thou beynge a Iew, lyuest after the maner of the Gentyls, and not as do the Iewes: why causeste thou the Gentyls to lyue as do the Iewes?

⁴ but as we were allowed of God, that the Gospel shoulde be committed vnto vs, euen so we spake, not as though we entended to please men, but God whyche tryeth oure hertes.
