¹ And it chaunsed that he went into the house of one of the chiefe Phariseis to eate breade, on a Saboth daye: and they watched hym. ² And beholde there was a man before hym whiche had the dropsye. ³ And Iesus aunswered and spake vnto the lawyars and Pharyseis sayinge: is it lawfull to heale on the Saboth daye? ⁴ And they helde theyr peace: And he toke hym, and healed him, and let hym go: ⁵ and aunswered them saying, which of you shall haue an asse, or an oxe fallen into a pytte, and wyll not straighte waye pul him out on the Saboth daye? ⁶ And they coulde not aunswere hym agayne to that. ⁷ He put forth a similitude to the gestes, when he marked howe they preased to the hyest roumes, and sayed vnto them: ⁸ When thou arte bydden to a weddynge of anye man, sit not downe in the hyest roume, least a more honorable man then thou be bydden of hym, ⁹ & he that bade both hym and the, come and saye to the: geue thys man roume, and thou then begynne with shame to take the lowest roume. ¹⁰ But rather when thou arte bydden, go and sit in the lowest roume, that when he that bade the, commeth, he maye saye vnto the frende sit vp hyer. Then shalte thou haue worshyppe in the preseuce of them that sitte at meat with the. ¹¹ For whosoeuer exalteth him selfe, shalbe broughte lowe. And he that humbleth him selfe, shalbe exalted. ¹² Then sayde he also to hym that had desyered hym to dyner. When thou makest a dyner or a supper: call not thy frendes, nor thy brethren, neyther thy kynsmen nor yet ryche neyghboures: least they byd the agayne, and a recompence be made the. ¹³ But when thou makest a feaste, call the poore the maymed, the lame, and the blynde, ¹⁴ & thou shalte be happy, for they can not recompence the. But thou shalte be recompensed at the resurreccyon of the iust men. ¹⁵ When one of them that sate at meate also hearde that, he sayed vnto hym: happye is he that eateth breade in the kyngdom of God. ¹⁶ Then sayde he to hym. A certayne man ordeyned a greate supper, and bade manye, ¹⁷ & sente hys seruaunte at supper tyme to saye to them that were bydden, come, for all thynges are nowe readye. ¹⁸ And they all at once began to make excuse. The fyrste sayed vnto him: I haue boughte a ferme, and muste nedes go, & se it, I pray the haue me excused. ¹⁹ And another sayed: I haue bought fyue yocke of oxen, and I go to proue them, I praye the haue me excused. ²⁰ The thyrde sayed: I haue maryed a wyfe and therfore I can not come. ²¹ And the seruaunt went and brought his mayster worde therof. Then was the good man of the house displeased, and sayed to hys seruaunt: Go oute quickly into the streates and quarters of the citie, and brynge in hyther the poore, and the maymed and the halte and the blynde. ²² And the seruaunt sayde: Lorde it is done as thou commaundest, and yet there is roume. ²³ And the Lorde sayd to the seruaunt: Go oute into the hygh waies, and hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. ²⁴ For I saye vnto you that none of those men which were bydden, shall tast of my supper. ²⁵ There went a great companye with him, and he turned and sayde vnto them: ²⁶ If a man come to me, and hate not hys father and mother, and wyfe, and chyldren and brethren & systers, moreouer and hys owne lyfe, he can not be my disciple. ²⁷ And whosoeuer beare not his crosse, and come after me can not be my disciple. ²⁸ Which of you disposed to buylde a tower, sitteth not doune before, & counteth the costes whether he haue sufficient to performe it, ²⁹ leste after he hath layde the foundacion, and is not able to performe it, all that beholde it beginne to mocke hym, ³⁰ saiyng: this man beganne to buylde, and was not able to make an end. ³¹ Or what kynge goeth to make batayle agaynste another kynge, & sytteth not doune fyrste, and casteth in hys mynd, whyther he be able with ten thousande to mete hym that cometh against him with twentye thousande. ³² Or els whyle the other is yet a great waye of, he wyll send embassetours, and desire peace. ³³ So likewise none of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, can be my discyple. ³⁴ Salt is good, but yf salt haue loste her saltnes, what shall be seasoned therwith? ³⁵ It is neyther good for the lande nor yet for the doung hyll, but men caste it out at the dores. He that hath eares to heare, let hym heare.

⁴ And they sayed come on, let vs builde a citye & a tower, that the toppe may reach vnto heuen. And let vs make vs a name for peraduenture we shall be scatered abrod ouer al the erth. ⁵ And the Lord came downe to se the city and the tower which the children of Adam had builded. ⁶ And the Lorde sayed: See, the people is one, and haue one tonge amonge them all. And thys haue they begon to do, and wyll not leaue of frome all that they haue purposed to do. ⁷ Come on, let vs descende, and myngle theyr tonge euen there, that one vnderstande not what another sayeth. ⁸ Thus the Lorde skattered them from thence vpon all the earth. And they left of to builde the city. ⁹ Wherefore the name of it is called Babell, bycause that the Lorde there confounded the tonge of al the world. And bicause that the Lorde from thence scatered them abrode vpon all the earth.

² And he sayde: Se Lordes, turne in I praye you in to youre seruauntes house and tary all nyghte and wash youre fete and ryse vp earlye and go on your wayes. And they sayde: nay, but we wyll byde in the streates all nyghte. ³ And he compelled them excedingly. And they turned in vnto him & entred in to hys house, and he made them a feaste & dyd bake swete cakes, and they ate.

³⁰ So lay he by Rahell also, & loued Rahell more then Lea, and serued hym yet .vij. yere more. ³¹ When the Lord sawe that Lea was despised he made hyr fruitful: but Rahel was baren.

⁴ When thou metest thine enemies oxe or asse goynge a straye, thou shalt brynge them to him agayne. ⁵ If thou se thine enemies asse synke vnder his burthen, thou shalt not passe by and let him alone: but shalt helpe hym to lyfte hym vp againe.

⁶ If thy brother the sonne of thy mother or thine own sonne or the daughter of the wife that lieth in thy bosome or thy frende which is as thyne owne soule vnto the, entyce the secretely saying, let vs go & serue straung Goddes which thou hast not knowne nor yet thy fathers of the gods, ⁷ of the people which are round aboute the, whether they be nye vnto the, or farre of from the, from the one end of the lande vnto the other. ⁸ Se thou consente not vnto him, nor herken vnto him: no let not thyne eye pity him nor haue compassion on him nor kepe hym secrete, but cause hym to be slaine.

²⁹ and the Leuite shall come bycause he hathe neither parte nor enheritaunce with the, and the straunger and the fatherles, and the wydowe whych are wythin thy citye and shall eate and fyll them selues: that the Lorde thy God maye blesse the in all thy worckes of thyne hand which thou doest.

¹¹ And reioyce before the Lorde thy God, both thou, thy sonne, thy daughter, thy seruaunt and thy mayd, & the Leuite that is wythin thy gates, & the straunger, the fatherles & the wedowes that are among you, in the place which the lord thy god hath chosen to make hys name dwel there.

¹⁴ And thou shalte reioyce in that thy feast, both thou & thy sonne thy daughter, thy seruaunt, thy mayd, the Leuite, the straunger, the fatherles, & the widow that are in thy cities.

¹⁵ If a man haue two wyues, one loued & another hated, and they haue borne him children, both the loued & also the hated.

⁵ When a man taketh a newe wife, he shal not go a warrefare nether shalbe charged wt any busynesse: but shalbe fre at home one yere & reioyse with hys wyfe which he hath taken.

¹² When thou hast made an ende of tything all the tythes of thyne encrease the thyrde yere, the yere of tythyuge: and hast geuen it vnto the Leuyte, the straunger, the fatherlesse and the wydowe, and they haue eaten in thy gates and fylled them selues. ¹³ Then saye before the Lord thy God: I haue brought the halowed thinges out of myne house, & haue geuen them vnto the Leuite, the straunger, the fatherlesse and the wydowe accordynge to al the commaundementes whych thou commaundest me: I haue not ouerskypped thy commaundementes, nor forgotten them.

⁹ He that saith vnto hys father and mother. I saw hym not and vnto hys brethren, I knewe not, and to hys sonne I wot not: for they haue obserued thy worde and kepte thy testamente.

¹⁹ But Iosua sayde vnto the people, ye can not serue the Lorde: for he is an holye God & cannot beare youre transgressyon and synne. ²⁰ But when ye haue forsaken the Lorde and haue serued straunge Goddes, he wyll turne and do you euyll, and consume you, after that he hath done you good. ²¹ And the people aunswered Iosua: naye, but we wyll serue the Lorde. ²² Then Iosua sayde vnto the folke, ye are wytnesses vnto youre selues, that ye haue chosen you the Lorde, to serue hym: and they said we are wytnesses. ²³ Then put awaye, sayde he the straung Goddes which are among you, and bowe your hertes vnto the Lorde God of Israell. ²⁴ And the people aunswered Iosua: the Lorde oure God we wyll serue, & hys voyce we wyl obey.

¹² And Samson sayde vnto them: I wyll put furthe a ryddle vnto you. And yf you can declare it wythin .vij. dayes of the feast and fynde it out, I wyll geue you thyrtye shertes, and thyrtye chaunge of garmentes:

⁸ He reyseth vp the poore out of the duste, and lyfteth vp the begger from the dong hill: to set them among princes, and to enheret them with the seate of glory. For the pyllers of the earth are the Lordes, and he hath set the rounde worlde vpon them.

¹⁷ And Samuel sayde when thou waste lytle in thyne owne sighte, wast thou not made the head of the trybes of Israell? And the Lorde anoynted the Kynge ouer Israel.

¹² And Dauids seruauntes turned theyr waye and went agayne, and came and tolde hym accordinge to all those sayinges.

¹⁹ & gaue amonge all the folcke, euen amonge the hole multytude of Israel, as well to the wemen as men euerye one a cake of bread, and a pece of fleshe and a flacket of wyne. And so the people departed euerye man to hys house.

And he sayde: is he yet alyue? what he is my brother. ³³ And they toke that word for good lucke and hastely caught it out of hys mouth and sayde? ye thy brother Benhadad. Then he sayde: go and brynge hym. And Benhadad came out to hym, and the other toke him vp into the charet. ³⁴ And Benhadad saide: the cytyes whiche my father toke from thy father, I wyll restore agayne. And thou shalt make streates for the in Damasco, as my father dyd in Samaria. And I wyll make an appointment with the and sent the away. And so made an appoyntment with him and sent hym awaye.

⁴ And they were excedinglye afrayde, & sayde: se, two kynges were not able to stande before hym, how shall we then stande? ⁵ And the gouerner of the kynges house & of the cytie and of the elders, and the nourses sente to Iehu, sayinge: we are thy seruauntes & wyll do all that thou shalte byd vs: we wyll make no man king, but do thou what semeth good in thyne eyes.

²⁰ thou wylt haplye speake a lyghte worde, that thou hast councell & powre to make warre. On whome then doest thou truste, that thou rebellest agaynst me? ²¹ doeste thou truste to the staffe of this broken rede Egypte, on which yf a man lene, it wyll runne into hys hande & perce it. For euen so is Pharao kynge of Egypt vnto all that truste on hym. ²² If ye saye vnto me we trust in the Lorde oure God. Is not that he whose hyllaulters and other aulters to, Hezekiah hath put doune, & hath sayde to Iuda and Ierusalem, bow youre selues before thys aulter here in Ierusalem.

²⁴ For Hezekiah kynge of Iuda gaue for heaue offrynges to the congregacion a thousand oxen and seuen thousand shepe. And the Lorde gaue to the congregacyon for heaueoffrynges a thousand oxen and ten thousand shepe. And the preastes sanctifyed them selues, that they were ynowe.

¹⁰ Therfore sayde he vnto them: go youre waye, and eate the fat, and dryncke the swete, and sende parte vnto them also that haue not prepared them selues: for this daye is holye vnto our Lorde, be not ye sory therfore: for the ioye of the Lorde is youre strength.

¹² And all the people wente theyr waye to eate and drincke, and to sende parte vnto other, and to make great myrth, because they had vnderstande the wordes that were declared vnto them.

⁶ And when Haman came in, the king sayd vnto him: what shalbe done vnto the man, whom the kyng would fayne bryng vnto worship? But Haman thought in his herte: Whome shoulde the kynge els be glad to brynge vnto worshippe, but me? ⁷ And Haman sayde vnto the kynge: Let the man vnto whome the king woulde be glad in do worshippe, be broughte hyther, ⁸ that he maye be araied with the royall garmentes whyche the kinge vseth to weare: and the horse that the kynge rydeth vpon, and that the croune royall maye be set vpon hys heade. ⁹ And let this raiment & horse be delyuered vnder the hande of one of the kinges prynces, that he maye araye the man withall (whome the kinge woulde fayne honoure) and carie hym vpon the horse thorow the strete of the citie, & cause it to be proclamed before him: thus shall it be done to euery man, whom the kyng woulde fayn honoure. ¹⁰ The kinge saide: make haste, and take as thou hast sayde, the rayment and the horse: & do euen so with Mardocheus the Iewe that sytteth before the kynges gate, & let nothinge fayle of all that thou hast spoken. ¹¹ Then toke Haman the rayment and the horse, & arayed hym, and brought him on horsbacke thorowe the streate of the cytye, and proclamed before him: Euen thus shall it be done vnto euery man whom the king is dysposed to honoure. ¹² And Mardocheus came agayn to the kinges gate, but Haman gat him home in al the haste mournynge with bare heade,

¹⁵ that my soule wyssheth rather to be strangled, and my bones to be deed. ¹⁶ I can se no remedy, I shall loue nomore: O spare me then, for my dayes are but vayne

²⁹ For who so humbleth hym selfe, him shall he set vp: and who so loketh mekely, shalbe healed.

¹³ He that shoulde haue bene lost, gaue me a good worde, and the wyddowes herte praysed me.

¹⁵ I was an eye vnto the blinde, and a fote to the lame, ¹⁶ I was a father vnto the poore and when I knew not their cause, I sought it oute diligently.

¹⁶ When the poore desyreth any thinge at me, haue I denyed it them? Haue I caused the wyddowe stande wayting for me in vayne? ¹⁷ Haue I eaten my porcyon alone, that the fatherlesse hath had no parte wyth me? ¹⁸ for mercy grewe vp with me from my youth, and compassion from my mothers wombe. ¹⁹ Haue I sene any man perysh thorow nakednesse and want of clothinge? Or any poore man for lack of rayment, ²⁰ whose sydes thancked me not, because he was warmed wt the wolle of my shepe?

⁹ Is thyne arme then lyke the arme of God? Maketh thy voyce such a sound as hys doeth? ¹⁰ Then arme thy selfe with thyne owne power, vp, decke the in thy ioly araye, ¹¹ poure oute the indignacyon of thy wrath: se that thou caste doune all the proude, ¹² loke well, that thou makest all suche as be stubborne, to obeye: treade all the vngodlye vnder thy fete,

¹² Kysse the sonne, lest the Lorde be angrye and so ye peryshe from the ryght way. For his wrath shalbe kindled shortly: blessed are all they that put their trust in hym.

²⁷ For thou shalte saue the poore oppressed, and brynge doune the hye lokes of the proude.

³² The vngodly seyth the righteous, & goeth aboute to slaye hym.

⁷ For my loynes are cleane dryed vp, and there is no whole parte in my body.

⁶ Though he came in to se, yet meaned he falsede in his hert, heapyng myscheyfe vpon hym selfe.

⁴ Their deuyce is only how to put hym out, their delite is in lyes: they geue good wordes wyth their mouth, but curse wyth the herte. Selah.

⁵ They haue deuysed myschefe, and communed amonge them selues, how they may laye snares: tush (saye they) who shall se them? ⁶ They ymagyn wyckednes, and kepe it secrete amonge them selues, euerye man in the depe of his herte.

²⁵ O what is there prepared for me in heauen? there is nothinge vpon earthe, that I desyre in comparyson of the. ²⁶ My fleash & my hert fayleth, but God is the strength of my herte, and my porcion for euer.

³ He hath remembred his mercy and trueth towarde the house of Israel: so that all the endes of the worlde, se the sauing health of our God.

⁶ The Lorde executeth righteousnesse and iudgement, for all theim that suffre wronge.

³ In the daye of thy power shal thy people offer the frewyll offerynges wyth an holye worshyppe, the dewe of thy byrthe is of the wombe of the mornynge.

⁷ Which taketh vp the simple out of the dust and lyfteth the poore out of the myre. ⁸ That he may sette him amonge the prynces, euen amonge the prynces of hys people.

⁷ Let Israel trust in the Lord, for wyth the Lorde there is mercy and plenteouse redempcyon.

⁶ For though the Lorde be hye, yet hath he respecte vnto the lowly: as for the proude, he beholdeth theim a farre of.

²⁰ Wisdome crieth without, & putteth forth her voyce in the stretes. ²¹ She calleth before the congregacion in the open gates, & sheweth her wordes thorow the citie, saying: ²² O ye chyldren, how longe will ye loue chyldyshnesse? how long wil the, scorners delite in scorning & the vnwise be enemies vnto knowlege? ²³ O turne you vnto my correccion: lo. I wil expres my mynde vnto you, & make you vnderstande my wordes. ²⁴ Seing then that I haue called & ye refused it: I haue stretched out my hand, & no man regarded it,

⁹ Honour the Lord with thy substaunce, & with the firstlinges of all thyne encrease: ¹⁰ so shall thy barnes be filled with plenteousnesse, and thy presses shall flowe ouer with swete wyne.

³⁵ The wise shall haue honour in possession, but shame is the promocion that foles shall haue.

¹ Doth not wysdome crye? doeth not vnderstanding put forth her voyce? ² Standeth she not in the hye places in the stretes & ways ³ doth she not crie before the whole citie, and in the gates where men go out & in? ⁴ It is you, O ye men (saieth she) whom I cal? Vnto you (O ye chyldren of men) lyft I vp my voyce.

³¹ He that doeth a poore man wrong, blasphemeth hys maker: but who so hathe pytye of the poore, doeth honoure vnto God,

³³ The feare of the Lord is the righte scyence of wysdome, and lowlines goeth before honure.

¹⁸ Presumptuousnes goth before destruction, & after aproud stomake ther foloweth a fall.

¹⁸ Thorow counsayl the thynges that men deuise go forward: and with discrecion ought warres to be taken in hande.

¹⁶ Who so doth a pore man wrong to increase his owne riches, geueth (commenly) vnto the rych, & at the last commeth to pouerte him selfe.

⁷ for he hath a meruelus hert. He saith vnto the: eate & drinke as wher, as his hert is not wt the.

²⁷ Fyrste make vp thy worke that is wythout, & loke wel vnto that which thou hast in the felde, & then buyld thyne house.

⁶ Put not forth thy self in the presence of the king, & prayse not into the place of great men. ⁷ Better is it that it be sayde vnto the: come vp hyther, then thou to be set doun in the presence of the prince whom thou seist with thine eyes. ⁸ Be not hastye to go to the law, lest happely thou order thy selfe so at the laste, that thy neighbour put the to shame.

²³ After pryde commeth a fal, but a lowly spirit bringeth great worshippe.

⁶ Geue strong drinke vnto suche as are condempned to death, & wyne vnto those that mourne: ⁷ that they may drinke it, & forget their misery and aduersitie.

¹⁷ Thus began I to be werye of my lyfe, in so muche that I coulde awaie wyth nothynge that is done vnder the Sunne, for all was but vanytye and vexacion of mynde: ¹⁸ Yea I was weerye of al my laboure, which I had taken vnder the Sunne, because I shoulde be fayne to leaue them vnto another man, that commeth after me ¹⁹ for who knoweth, whether he shalbe a wyse man or afole? And yet shall he be lorde of al my laboures, which I wyth suche wysdome haue taken vnder the Sunne. Is not this a vayne thynge.

¹ Come into my garden O my sister, my spouse: I haue gathered my Myrre with my spyce. I wil eate my hony and my hony combe, I will drinke my wyne and my mylke. Eate, O ye frendes, drynke & be mery, O ye beloued.

¹¹ Which casteth doune the hygh lokes of presumptuous personnes, & bryngeth lowe the pryde of man, & he only shall be exalted in the daye.

¹⁷ And it shall bryng doune the pryde of man, & laye mans presumptuousnesse ful lowe, and the Lorde shall onelye haue the vyctorye in that daye.

¹⁰ Then shal the Gentyles enquere after the rote of Iesse (whiche shalbe set vp for a token vnto the Gentyles) for hys dwellinge shalbe glorious.

²⁴ Then shal Israel with honour be the thirde to Egipt and Assur, ²⁵ and the Lorde of hostes shall blesse them, saying: Blessed is my people of the Egipcians, Assur is the worcke of my handes, but Israel is mine enheritaunce.

⁶ Moreouer the Lorde of Hostes shall ones prepare a feaste, for all people vpon the hyll: A plenteous, costly, pleasaunt feaste, of fat & wel fede beastes, of swete & most pure thinges. ⁷ Vpon the hil shal he take away the side vale that hangeth before the face of al people and the couerynge wherwith al Gentiles are couered.

¹³ Then shall the greate trompette be blowen, so that those whiche haue bene destroyed in the Assyryans lande, and those that be scatred abroad in Egypte: shall come and worshyppe the Lord at Ierusalem, vpon the holy mount.

¹² This shall bringe reste, yf one refreshe the weerye, ye this shall bringe reste. But they had no will to heare. ¹³ And therfore the Lorde shall aunswere theyr stubbournes (Commaunde that maye be commaunded, byd that may be bidden, forbid that may be forbidden, kepe backe that maye be kept backe, here a lytle, there a lytle) That they maye go forth fall back warde, be brosed, snared and taken.

¹¹ And all vysyons shalbe vnto you, as the wordes that stande in a sealed lettre, when one offereth it to a man that is learned, and sayeth: reade vs thys lettre. Then he aunswereth: I cannot read it, for it is shut. ¹² But yf it be geuen to one that is not learned, or sayd vnto him: reade this lettre: Then saith he: I can not reade.

²⁰ Then shall the furyous people ceasse, and the mockers shalbe put awaye, and all they that do wronge shalbe plucked oute, ²¹ suche as laboure to drawe men vnto synne: & that dysceyue hym, whiche reproueth them in the gate, and such as turne good personnes to vanite.

²³ There are the coardes so layde abroade, that they cannot be better: The maste set vp of suche a fashyon, that no banner nor sayle hangeth theron: but there is dealed great spoyle, ye lame men runne after the praye.

⁶ Then shall the lame man leape as an herte, and the domme mans tunge shal geue thanckes. In the wyldernesse also there shall welles spryge, and floudes of water in the deserte.

Come ye blessed chyldren of my father, enheryte ye the kingdome prepared for you from the begynninge of the worlde. ³⁵ For I was an hungred & ye gaue me meate. I thirsted and ye gaue me drinke. I was herbourles and ye lodged me. I was naked and ye clothed me. ³⁶ I was sycke and ye visyted me. I was in pryson and ye came vnto me. ³⁷ Then shal the rightuous aunswere him sayinge, maister, when sawe we the an houngred, & fede the, or a thyrst, & gaue the drinke ³⁸ when sawe we the herborles, and lodged the? or naked and clothed the? ³⁹ or when sawe we the syke or in pryson and came vnto the? ⁴⁰ And the kinge shall aunswere and saye vnto theym: verelye I saye vnto you: in as much as ye haue done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye haue done it vnto me.

³ Then when Iudas whiche betrayed him, saw that he was condemned, he repented him selfe, and brought agayne the .xxx. plates of syluer to the chiefe priestes and elders ⁴ saying: I haue synned betrayinge the innocent bloud. And they sayde: what is that to vs? Se thou to that. ⁵ And he caste doune the syluer plates in the temple, and departed, and wente, and honge hym selfe. ⁶ And the chief priestes toke the syluer plates, & sayed: it is not lawfull for to putte them into the treasury, because it is the pryce of bloude. ⁷ And they toke counsell, and bought wyth them a potters fylde to bury straungers in. ⁸ Wherfore that fylde is called the fylde of bloude vntyll thys day.

¹⁹ Go therfore & teache all nacyons, baptisyng them in the name of the father, and the sonne, & the holye ghoste. ²⁰ Teachyng then to obserue all thynges whatsoeuer I commaunded you, And lo I am with you alwaye, euen vntyll the ende of the worlde.

² And they watched him to se, whether he woulde heale him on the Saboth daye, that they myght accuse hym.

⁴ And he sayde to them: whether is it lawful to do a good dede on the Saboth dayes, or an euyll? to saue lyfe or kyll? But they held theyr peace.

³⁴ And he called the people vnto hym, wyth his disciples also, and sayde vnto them: Whosoeuer will folowe me, let hym forsake hym self, and take vp his crosse and folow me. ³⁵ For whosoeuer wil saue his lyfe. shall lowse it. But whosoeuer shal lowse his life for my sake and the gospels: the same shall saue it. ³⁶ What shall it profite a man, if he shoulde wynne all the worlde, and lowse his owne soule? ³⁷ or els what shall a man geue, to redeme his soule agayne?

⁴⁹ Euery man therfore shalbe salted wyth fyre. And euery sacrifice shalbe seasoned with salt, ⁵⁰ Salt is good. But if the salt be vnsauery what shall ye sate therwith? Se that ye haue salt in your selues, & haue peace amonge your selues, one with another.

²¹ Iesus behelde hym, and had a fauoure to him: and sayed vnto hym: one thynge is lackynge vnto the. Go and sell all that thou haste, and geue to the poore, and thou shalte haue treasure in heauen, and come and folowe me, and take vp thy crosse.

³⁸ And he sayd vnto them in his doctrine: beware of the Scribes, which loue to go in longe clothinge and loue salutations in the market places, ³⁹ & the chief seates in synagoges, and to sit in the vppermoste roumes at feastes

²¹ And they compelled one that passed by, called Simon of Ciren (which came out of the feld, and was father of Alexander and Rufus) to beare hys crosse.

¹⁵ And he sayed to them: Go ye into all the worlde, and preache the glad tydynges to all creatures, ¹⁶ he that beleueth & is baptised, shall be saued. But he that beleueth not, shalbe damned.

⁵¹ He sheweth strength with his arme, he scattereth them that are proude in the ymagynacion of their hertes.

⁵³ He fylleth the hongry with good thinges, & sendeth away the ryche empty.

⁴ as it is written in the boke of the sayinges of Esaias the prophete which sayeth. The voyce of a cryer in wildernes, prepare the waye of the Lorde, make hys pathes strayght. ⁵ Euerye valley shall be fylled, and euerye mountayne and hyll shall be brought lowe. And croked thinges shalbe made straight: and the rough wayes shalbe made smoth: ⁶ and all fleshe shall se the sauioure sent of God.

¹¹ And they brought the shyppes to lande, and forsoke all and folowed hym.

²⁸ And he left al, rose vp and folowed him.

⁷ And the scrybes and pharyseis watched him, to see whether he would heale on the saboth daye, that they myght fynde an accusacion against him.

⁹ Then sayde Iesus vnto them: I wyll axe you a question: Whither is it lawfull on the saboth dayes to do good or to do euyl? to saue lyfe, or for to destroye it?

³² Yf ye loue them which loue you, what thanke are ye worthy of? For the verye synners loue their louers. ³³ And if ye do for them which do for you, what thanke are ye worthye of? For the verye synners do euen the same. ³⁴ If ye lende to them of whom ye hope to receiue, what thanke shall ye haue: for the very synners lende to synners to receiue much againe. ³⁵ Wherfore, loue ye your enemyes, do good and lende, lokinge for nothynge againe, and your rewarde shall be greate, and ye shalbe the children of the hyest for he is kinde vnto the vnkinde and to the euyll. ³⁶ Be ye therfore mercifull, as your father is mercyfull.

²² And Iesus aunswered and saide vnto them: Go your wayes and shewe Ihon what thinges ye haue seane and hearde: howe that the blynd se, the halt go, the lepers are clensed, the deafe heare, the dead aryse, to the poore is glad tydinges preached, ²³ and happye is he that is not offended by me.

³⁴ The sonne of man is come and eateth and drincked, and ye saye: beholde a man which is a glotten, and a drincker of wine, a frende of publicans and synners. ³⁵ Yet is wysdome iustyfyed of all her chyldren. ³⁶ And one of the pharyseis desyred hym that he wolde eate with him. And he wente into the pharyseis house and sate doune to meate.

⁸ And some fell on good grounde and spronge vp and bare fruite an hundred folde. And as he sayed these thinges he cryed: He that hath eares to heare, let hym heare.

¹⁴ And that whiche fell amonge thornes, are thei which heare, and go forth, and are choked with cares and with ryches, and voluptuouse liuinge, and bringe forth no fruite.

¹ Then called he the .xij. together, and gaue them power, and authoryte ouer all Deuyls, and that they myght heale diseases. ² And he sent them to preache the kyngdome of God, and to cure the sycke. ³ And he sayed to them: Take nothinge to sucker you by the waye neither staffe, nor scrype, neyther bread neyther money, neither haue .ij. cotes. ⁴ And whatsoeuer house ye enter into, there abyde and thence departe: ⁵ And whosoeuer wyll not receyue you, when ye go out of that cytye shake of the verye dust from your fete, for a testimonye against them.

¹⁰ And the Apollels retourned, and told him what great thinges thei had done. And he toke them and wente a syde into a solitary place nye to a cytye called Bethsayda.

²³ And he sayed to them all, if anye man wyll come after me, let him denye hym selfe, & take vp his crosse dayly, and folowe me. ²⁴ Whosoeuer wyll saue his lyfe, shall lose it. And whosoeuer shall lose his lyfe for my sake, the same shall saue it. ²⁵ For what auauntageth it a man to winne the whole worlde if he lose him selfe, or runne in damage of him selfe.

⁴⁴ Let these sayinges sinke doune into your eares. The tyme wil come, when the sonne of man shalbe delyuered into the handes of men.

¹ After these thynges, the Lord appoynted other seuentye also: and sent them, two & two before him into euery citie and place, whyther he hym selfe woulde come. ² And he sayed vnto them, the haruest is great, but the laborers are fewe. Praye therfore the Lorde of the harueste, to sende forth laborers into hys haruest. ³ Go youre wayes: beholde, I sende you forth as lambes among wolues. ⁴ Beare no wallet neyther scryppe, nor shues, and salute no man by the way. ⁵ Into whatsoeuer house ye enter, fyrste saye: Peace be to thys house. ⁶ And yf the sonne of peace be there your peace shal reste vpon hym: yf not, it shal returne to you agayne. ⁷ And in the same house tary styll, eatynge and drinckynge suche as they haue. For the labourer is worthy of thys rewarde. Go not from house to house, ⁸ & into whatsoeuer citie ye enter, yf they receyue you, eate suche thynges as are set before you, ⁹ and heale the sycke that are there, and say vnto them: the kyngedome of God is come nye vnto you. ¹⁰ But into whatsoeuer citie ye shall enter, yf they receyue you not, go youre wayes out into the streates of the same and saye: ¹¹ euen the very duste, whiche cleaueth on vs of your citie, we wype of agaynste you. Notwithstandynge marke this that the kyngdome of God was come nye vpon you. ¹² Yea, and I saye to you, that it shalbe easier in that daye for Zodome then for that citie.

³⁷ And as he spake, a certayne Pharisey besought hym to done with hym, and he wente in, & sat doune.

⁴¹ Neuerthelesse geue almose of that ye haue, and beholde all is cleane to you.

⁴³ Wo be to you Pharises, for ye loue the vppermost seates in the synagoges, and gretynges in the markettes. ⁴⁴ Wo be to you scribes and pharyses, hypocrites, for ye are as graues which appere not, and the men that walke ouer them, are not ware of them. ⁴⁵ Then aunswered one of the lawyers, and sayed vnto hym: Mayster, thus saiyng, thou puttest vs to rebuke also.

⁵³ When he thus spake vnto them, the lawyers, and the Pharyses began to wexe busye aboute hym, and to stop hys mouthe with manye questyons, ⁵⁴ layinge wayte for hym, and sekynge to catche some thynge of hys mouthe, whereby they myghte accuse hym.

¹ As there gathered together an innumerable multitude of people (in so muche that they trode one another) he began to saye vnto hys discyples: Fyrste of all beware of the leuen of the Phariseis, which is hypocrisye.

³⁷ Happye are those seruauntes, whom the Lorde when he commeth, shall fynde wakynge: Verely I saye vnto you, he wyll girde hym selfe aboute, and make them sytte doune to meate, & walke by, & mynyster vnto them.

⁵⁸ Whyle thou goest with thyne aduersarye to the ruler, as thou arte in the waye, geue dyligence that thou mayest be delyuered from hym, leaste he brynge the to the iudge, and the iudge deliuer the to the iayler, & the iayler cast the into pryson.

¹⁴ And the ruler of the synagoge aunswered with indignacion (because that Iesus had healed on the Saboth daye) & sayed vnto the people. There are .vi. dayes, in whiche men oughte to worke, in them come and be healed, & not on the Saboth daye. ¹⁵ Then aunswered hym the Lorde, and said: Hypocryte, doth not eache one of you on the saboth daye, lowse hys oxe or hys asse from the stall, and leade hym to the water

²⁹ And they shall come from the easte & from the west, and from the northe, and from the southe, and shall sit doune in the kyngdom of God.

¹³ But when thou makest a feaste, call the poore the maymed, the lame, and the blynde,

¹⁶ Then sayde he to hym. A certayne man ordeyned a greate supper, and bade manye, ¹⁷ & sente hys seruaunte at supper tyme to saye to them that were bydden, come, for all thynges are nowe readye. ¹⁸ And they all at once began to make excuse. The fyrste sayed vnto him: I haue boughte a ferme, and muste nedes go, & se it, I pray the haue me excused. ¹⁹ And another sayed: I haue bought fyue yocke of oxen, and I go to proue them, I praye the haue me excused. ²⁰ The thyrde sayed: I haue maryed a wyfe and therfore I can not come. ²¹ And the seruaunt went and brought his mayster worde therof. Then was the good man of the house displeased, and sayed to hys seruaunt: Go oute quickly into the streates and quarters of the citie, and brynge in hyther the poore, and the maymed and the halte and the blynde.

They ate, they dranke they bought, they solde, they planted, they buylte. ²⁹ And euen the same daye that Lot went out of Zodome, it rayned fyre and brymstone from heauen, and destroyed them. ³⁰ After these ensamples, shal it be in the daye when the sonne of man shall appeare. ³¹ At that daye he that is on the house toppe, and hys stuffe in the house: let him not come doune to take it out. And lykewyse let not him that is in the fielde turne backe agayne to that he lefte behynde.

¹⁴ I tell you: this man departed home to hys house iustifyed more then the other. For euerye man that exalteth hym selfe, shalbe brought lowe. And he that humbleth hym selfe, shalbe exalted.

²² When Iesus hearde that, he sayed vnto hym. Yet lackeste thou one thynge. Sell all that thou haste, and distrybute it vnto the poore, and thou shalt haue treasure in heauen, and come, & folowe me. ²³ When he hearde, that he was heauy: for he was very ryche. ²⁴ When Iesus sawe hym morne, he sayed: with what difficultye shall they that haue ryches, enter into the kyngedome of God:

⁴ The baptysine of Iohn, was it from heauen or of men? ⁵ And they thought wtin them selues, saiyng: yf we shal say, from heauen, he wil say: why then beleued ye him not?

³⁵ But they which shalbe made worthy to enioye that worlde and the resurreccyon from death, neyther marye wyues, neyther are maryed, ³⁶ nor yet can dye anye more. For they are equal vnto the angels, & are the sonnes of god in as muche as they are the chyldren of the resurreccion.

⁴⁰ And after that durst they not axe him any question at all.

³⁰ that ye maye eate and drinke at my table in my kingdome, and syt on seates, and iudge the twelue tribes of Israel.

²⁹ But they constrayned him saiynge, abyde with vs, for it draweth towardes nyght, and the daye is farre passed. And he wente into tarye wyth them.

⁴⁷ and that repentaunce and remissyon of synnes shoulde be preached in his name amonge all nacions. And must begynne at Ierusalem.

¹ Ther was a man of the Pharises named Nicodemus a ruler amonge the Iewes.

¹⁹ And this is the condempnacion, that light is come into the worlde, and the men loued darknes more then lyght, because their dedes were euyll.

³⁶ He that beleueth on the sonne, hath euerlasting life, and he that beleueth not the sonne shall not se life: but the wrath of God abydeth on him.

³⁹ Manye of the Samarytanes of that citie beleued on hym for the sayinge of the woman, whyche testified, he tolde me all thynges that euer I did. ⁴⁰ Then when the Samaritans were come vnto him they besought hym that he woulde tary with them. And he abode ther .ij. daies. ⁴¹ And manye more beleued because of his owne wordes, ⁴² & sayd vnto the woman. Now we beleue not because of thy saying. For we haue heard hym oureselues, & knowe that thys is euen in dede Christe the Sauioure of the worlde.

²⁹ and shall come forth: they that haue done good, vnto the resurreccion of lyfe, and they that hath done euil, vnto the resurreccion of damnacion.

⁴⁰ And yet wyll ye not come to me that ye might haue lyfe.

²⁴ Then when the people sawe that Iesus was not there neyther his disciples, they also toke shyppinge and came to Capernaum sekinge for Iesus. ²⁵ And when they had found him on the other syde of the sea, they sayde vnto hym: Rabbi when camest thou hither? ²⁶ Iesus aunswered them and sayde verelye, verelye I say vnto you ye seke me, not because ye sawe the miracles, but because ye eate of the loues, and were fylled. ²⁷ Laboure not for the meate which perysheth, but for the meate that endureth vnto euerlasting lyfe, which meate the sonne of man shall geue vnto you. For hym hath God the father sealed.

He gaue them bread from heauen to eate. ³² Iesus sayde vnto them: verelye, verelye I say vnto you: Moyses gaue you not breade from heauen: but my father geueth you the true breade from heauen. ³³ For the bread of God is he which commeth doune from heauen, and geueth lyfe vnto the worlde. ³⁴ Then sayde they vnto hym: Lord, euermore geue vs this breade. ³⁵ And Iesus sayde vnto them: I am that breade of lyfe. He that commeth to me, shall not honger: and he that beleueth on me shall not thurste. ³⁶ But I saye vnto you: that ye haue sene me, and yet beleue not. ³⁷ All that the father geueth me shall come to me, and him that cometh to me, I cast not awaye. ³⁸ For I came doune from heauen: not to do myne owne wyll, but his wyll which hath sent me. ³⁹ And this is the fathers wyll which hath sent me, that of all whiche hath geuen me, I shoulde loose nothinge: but shoulde rayse it vp agayne at the laste daye. ⁴⁰ And this is the wyll of him that sent me: that euerye man which seeth the sonne and beleueth on him haue euerlasting lyfe. And I wyll rayse him vp at the laste daye. ⁴¹ The Iewes then murmured at him, because he sayd: I am that bread which is come doune from heauen. ⁴² And they sayde: Is not this Iesus the sonne of Ioseph, whose father and mother we knowe? Howe is it then that he saieth: I came doune from heauen? ⁴³ Iesus aunswered and saide vnto them. Murmure not amonge your selues. ⁴⁴ No man can come to me: except the father which hath sent me drawe him. And I wyll rayse him vp at the laste day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophetes: that they shalbe al taught of God. Euery man therfore thath hath heard and hath learned of the father commeth vnto me. ⁴⁶ Not that anye man hath sene the father, saue which is of God, the same hath sene the father. ⁴⁷ Verely, verelye, I say vnto you, he that beleueth on me, hath euerlasting lyfe ⁴⁸ I am that bread of lyfe. ⁴⁹ Youre fathers did eate Manna in the wyldernes and are dead. ⁵⁰ This is that bread which commeth from heauen that he which eateth of it, shoulde also not dye. ⁵¹ I am that lyuinge bread: which came doune from heauen. If any man eate of this bread, he shall lyue for euer. And the bread that I wyll geue is my flesh, which I will geue for the life of the worlde. ⁵² And the Iewes stroue amonge them selues saiynge: How can this felowe geue vs his flesh to eate? ⁵³ Then Iesus saide to them. Verely, verely, I say vnto you: excepte ye eate the fleshe of the sonne of man and drinke his bloude, ye shall not haue lyue in you. ⁵⁴ Whosoeuer eateth my flesh, and drinketh my bloude, hath eternal lyfe: and I wyll rayse him vp at the laste day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is meate in dede, and my bloude is drinke in dede. ⁵⁶ He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my bloude, dwelt in me and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the liuinge father hath sent me, euen so lyue I by my father, and he that eateth me shall lyue by me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came from heauen: not as your fathers haue eaten Manna and are dead. He that eateth of this breade, shall lyue euer. ⁵⁹ These thinges sayed he in the synagoge as he taught in Capernaum.

²³ If a man on the Saboth daye receyue circumcisyon without breakinge of the lawe of Moyses: disdayne ye at me because I haue made a man euery whit whole on the Saboth daye?

³⁷ In the last day, that great daye of the feaste Iesus stode and cried saiynge: If a man thirste, let him come vnto me and drinke.

⁴⁷ Then aunswered them the Phariseis: are ye also deceyued? ⁴⁸ Doth anye of the rulers or the Phariseis beleue on hym? ⁴⁹ But the commune people whiche know not the lawe, are cursed.

²¹ Then sayde Iesus agayne vnto them. I go my waye, and ye shall seke me, & shall dye in youre synnes. Whether I go, thither can ye not come.

²⁴ I sayd therfore vnto you, that ye shall dye in your synnes. For except ye beleue that I am he, ye shall dye in youre synnes.

³⁹ Iesus sayed: I am come vnto iudgement into this worlde, that they which se not myght se, and they which se, myght be made blynd.

²⁵ He that loueth hys lyfe, shall destroy it: and he that hateth hys lyfe in this world, shal kepe it vnto lyfe eternall.

² In my fathers house are manye mansyons. Yf it were not so, I wolde haue told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

¹ In the former treatyse (deare frende Theophilus) I haue written of all that Iesus beganne to do and teache, ² vntyll the day in whyche he was taken vp after that he, through the holy ghost, had geuen commaundementes vnto the Apostles whiche he had chosen: ³ to whom also he shewed him selfe aliue after his passion by many tokens, apperynge vnto them fourty dayes, & speakinge of the kyngdome of God, ⁴ & gathered them together, and commaunded them, that they shoulde not departe from Hierusalem: but to wayt for the promys of the father, wherof ye haue hearde of me. ⁵ For Iohn baptysed with water: but ye shal be baptised with the holy ghost, and that wyth in thys feawe dayes. ⁶ When they were come together they axed of him saiynge: Lorde wylt thou at thys tyme restore againe the kyngdome to Israel? ⁷ And he sayed vnto them: It is not for you to know the tymes or the seasons which the father hath put in hys owne power ⁸ but ye shall receiue power of the holy ghost, whiche shall come on you. And ye shall be witnesses vnto me in Hierusalem, and in al Iewrye, and in Samary and euen vnto the worldes ende. ⁹ And when he had spoken these thynges whyle they beheld, he was taken vp, and a cloud receiued him vp out of their sighte,

¹⁸ And the same hath now possessed a plot of grounde with the rewarde of iniquitie, and when he was hanged, brast a sondre in the myddes. and all his bowels gushed out. ¹⁹ And it is knowen vnto all the inhabiters of Ierusalem, in so much that, that felde is called in theyr mother tonge Acheldama, that is to say, the bloude fielde.

¹⁷ Let him that hath eares, heare what the spyryte sayeth vnto the congregacyons. To hym that ouercommeth will I geue to eate Manna, that is hyd and wyll geue hym a whyte stone, and in the stone a new name wrytten, whiche no man knoweth sauynge he that receiueth it.

⁹ Behold I make them of the congregacion of Sathan, which cal them selues Iewes and are not, but do lye: Beholde: I wyl make them that they shal come and worshyppe before thy fete, and shal knowe that I loue the.

Of the trybe of Ruben were sealed .xij.M. of the trybe of Gad were sealed .xij.M. ⁶ Of the trybe of Asser were sealed .xij. thousand. Of the trybe of Neptalim were sealed twelue thousande. Of the Trybe of Manasses were sealed twelue thousand. ⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelue thousand. Of the tribe of Leuy were sealed .xij. thousande. Of the tribe of Isacar were sealed .xij.M. ⁸ Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelue thousand. Of the tribe of Ioseph were sealed twelue thousand. Of the tribe of Beniamin were sealed twelue thousande. ⁹ After this I behelde, and lo a greate multitude (which no man coulde numbre) of al nacions and people, and tonges, stode before the seate, and before the lambe, clothed wyth longe whyte garmentes, and palmes in their handes,

¹¹ And they ouercame hym by the bloude of the lambe, and by the worde of theyr testimony, and they loued not theyr liues vnto the death.

¹ And I saw another signe in heauen greate and maruellous .vij. angels, hauynge the seuen laste plages, for in them is fullfylled the wrath of GOD. ² And I sawe as it were a glassy sea, mingled wt fyre, & them that had gotten victory of the beast and of his ymage, and of his marke, & of the numbre of his name, stande on the glassye sea, hauinge the harpes of God, ³ and they songe the songe of Moises the seruaunt of God, & they songe of the lamb, sayinge: Great & maruelous are thy workes Lorde God almighty, iuste & true are thy wayes kynge of sainctes. ⁴ Who shal not feare. O Lorde, & glorify thy name? For thou only arte holy and al Gentyls shal come and worshippe before the for thy iudgementes are made manifeste. ⁵ And after that, I loked & behold the temple of the tabernacle of testimony was open in heauen, ⁶ & the .vij. angels came out of the temple, which had the .vij. plages, clothed in pure and bryght linnen, & hauing their breastes gyrded wt golden gyrdels. ⁷ And one of the .iiij. beastes gaue to the .vij. angels .vij. golden vialles, ful of the wrath of God, whiche liueth for euermore. ⁸ And the temple was ful of the smoke of the glory of God and of his power, & no man was able to enter into the temple, tyll the seuen plages of the seuen angels were fulfylled.

⁹ And he sayed vnto me, happye are they whyche are called vnto the Lambes supper. And he said vnto me, these are true sayinges of God.

¹⁵ & out of hys mouthe went out a sharpe swearde, that with it he should smyte the heathen. And he shal rule them wyth a rod of Iron, & he trode the wine fat of the fiercenes & wrath of almightye God.

⁴ And I saw seates and they sate vpon them and iudgement was geuen vnto them: & I saw the soules of them that were beheaded for the wytnes of Iesu, & for the worde of God, which had not worshypped the beast, nether his Image, nether had taken hys marke vpon theyr forheades, or on theyr handes: and they lyued, and reygned with Christ a thousande yere: ⁵ but the other of the dead men lyued not agayne, vntil the .M. yeres were fynyshed. This is the fyrste resurreccion.
