¹ And Iesus wente vnto mounte Oliuete, ² and earlye in the mornynge came agayne into the temple, and all the people came vnto him, and sate doune & taught them. ³ And the Scribes and Phariseis brought vnto hym a woman taken in aduoutrye, and set her in the middest, ⁴ and sayed vnto hym: Mayster, thys woman was taken in aduoutrye, euen as the dede was a doynge. ⁵ Moyses in the lawe commaunded vs that suche shoulde be stoned. What sayest thou therfore? ⁶ And this they sayed to tempte hym, that they myghte haue, whereof to accuse hym. Iesus stouped doune, and with hys fynger wrote on the ground. ⁷ And whyle they continued axynge hym, he lyfte hym selfe vp, and sayd vnto them: let hym that is amonge you without synne caste the fyrst stone at her. ⁸ And agayne he stouped doune, and wrote on the grounde. ⁹ And assone as they hearde that, they went out one by one, the eldest fyrst. And Iesu was left alone, and the woman standynge in the myddes. ¹⁰ When Iesus had lyft vp hym self agayn and sawe no man but the woman, he sayd to her. Woman where are those thyne accusers? Hath no man condemned the? ¹¹ She sayed no man Lorde. And Iesus sayde: Neyther do I condempne the. Go, and synne no more. ¹² Then spake Iesus agayne vnto them, saiynge. I am the lyghte of the worlde. He that foloweth me, shall not walke in darkenes: but shall haue the lyghte of lyfe. ¹³ The Phariseis sayde vnto hym: thou bearest recorde of thy selfe thy recorde is not true. ¹⁴ Iesus aunswered and sayed vnto them: though I beare recorde of my selfe, yet my recorde is true: for I know whence I came, and whether I go. But ye can not tel, whence I came, and whither I go. ¹⁵ Ye iudge after the flesh. I iudge no man. ¹⁶ Thoughe I iudge, yet is my iudgement true. For I am not alone: but I and the father that sent me. ¹⁷ It is also written in your lawe, that the testimony of two men is true. ¹⁸ I am one that beare witnes of my selfe, and the father that sent me beareth witnes of me. ¹⁹ Then sayde they vnto hym: where is thy father? Iesus aunswered: ye neyther knowe me nor yet my father. Yf ye had knowen me, ye shoulde haue knowen my father also. ²⁰ These wordes spake Iesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple, and no man layde handes on hym, for hys tyme was not yet come. ²¹ Then sayde Iesus agayne vnto them. I go my waye, and ye shall seke me, & shall dye in youre synnes. Whether I go, thither can ye not come. ²² Then sayde the Iewes: will he kyll hym selfe, because he sayth: whether I go thyther can ye not come? ²³ And he sayde to them: ye are from beneth. I am from aboue. Ye are of thys worlde. I am not of thys worlde. ²⁴ I sayd therfore vnto you, that ye shall dye in your synnes. For except ye beleue that I am he, ye shall dye in youre synnes. ²⁵ Then sayed they vnto hym, who arte thou? And Iesus sayde vnto them: Euen the very same thynge that I saye vnto you, ²⁶ I haue manye thynges to saye, and to iudge of you: but he that sent me is true. And I speake in the worlde, those thinges which I haue hearde of hym. ²⁷ Howe be it, they vnderstode not that he spake of hys father. ²⁸ Then sayde Iesus vnto them: when ye haue lyfte vp an hye the sonne of man, then shall ye knowe, that I am he, and that I do nothynge of my self: but as my father hath taught me, euen so I speake: ²⁹ and he that sente me, is with me. The father hath not left me alone, for I do alwayes those thynges, that please him. ³⁰ As he spake these wordes, many beleued on hym. Then sayde Iesus to those Iewes whiche beleued on hym. ³¹ Yf ye continue in my wordes: then are ye my very discyples, ³² and shal know the truth, and the truthe shall make you free. ³³ They aunswered hym. We be Abrahams seede, and were neuer bonde to any man: why sayest thou then: ye shalbe made, fre? ³⁴ Iesus aunswered them: verelye, verelye I say vnto you, that whosoeuer committeth synne ³⁵ is the seruaunte of synne. And the seruaunte abydeth not in the house for euer. ³⁶ But the sonne abydeth euer. Yf the sonne therfore shal make you fre, then are ye free in dede. ³⁷ I knowe that ye are Abrahams sede, but ye seke meanes to kyl me, because my sayinges haue no place in you. ³⁸ I speake that I haue sene with my father: and ye do that which ye haue sene with youre father. ³⁹ They aunswered, & sayde vnto hym. Abraham is oure father. Iesus sayde vnto them: yf ye were Abrahams chyldren, ye woulde do the dedes of Abraham. ⁴⁰ But nowe ye go about to kyll me, a man that haue tolde you the truthe whiche I haue hearde of God, thys dyd not Abraham, ⁴¹ ye do the dedes of your father. Then sayde they to him: we were not borne of fornicion. We haue one father, whiche is God. ⁴² Iesus sayde vnto them: yf God were youre father, then woulde ye loue me. For I proceaded forth, and come from God. Neyther came I of my selfe, but he sente me. ⁴³ Why do ye not knowe my speache? Euen because ye cannot abyde the hearynge of my wordes. ⁴⁴ Ye are of youre father the deuyl, and the lustes of your father ye wyll do. He was a murtherer from the begynnyng, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truthe in hym. When he speaketh a lye, then speaketh he of hys owne. For he is a lyar, and the father therof. ⁴⁵ And because I tell you the truthe, therfore ye beleue me not. ⁴⁶ Which of you can rebuke me of synne? Yf I saye the truth, why do not ye beleue me? ⁴⁷ He that is of God, heareth Goddes wordes. Ye therfor heare them not, because ye, are not of God. ⁴⁸ Then answered the Iewes, and sayd vnto hym: Saye we not well that thou arte a Samaritane, and hast the deuyll? ⁴⁹ Iesus aunswered: I haue not the deuyll: but I honoure my father, & ye haue dishonoured me. ⁵⁰ I seke not myne owne prayse: but there is one that seketh, and iudgeth. ⁵¹ Verely verely I saye vnto you, yf a man kepe my saiynges, he shall neuer she death. ⁵² Then sayed the Iewes to hym. Nowe knowe we that thou haste the deuyll. Abraham is dead, and also the Prophetes, and yet thou sayest, yf a man kepe my saiynges he shall neuer tast of death. ⁵³ Art thou greater then oure father Abraham which is dead? And the Prophetes are dead: Whome makest thou thy selfe? ⁵⁴ Iesus answered. Yf I honoure my selfe, myne honoure is nothynge worthe. It is my father, that honoureth me, which you saye is youre God, ⁵⁵ and ye haue not knowen hym: but I knowe hym, And yf I shoulde saye: I knowe hym not, I shoulde be a lyer lyke vnto you. But I knowe hym, and kepe hys saiynge. ⁵⁶ Your father Abraham was glad to se my daye and he sawe it, and reioyced. ⁵⁷ Then sayed the Iewes vnto hym: thou arte not yet .l. yeares olde, and hast thou sene Abraham? ⁵⁸ Iesus said vnto them: Verelye verely I saye vnto you: yer Abraham was I am. ⁵⁹ Then toke they vp stones to caste at hym. But Iesus hyd him self and wente oute of the temple.

³ but of the frute of the tree that is in the myddes of the garden (sayd God) se that ye eate not, & se that ye touch it not, lest ye dye. ⁴ Then sayd the serpent vnto the woman: tush ye shal not dye: ⁵ but god doth know that when so euer ye should eate of it, your eyes should be opened, & ye should be as god, & know both good & euel. ⁶ And the woman saw that it was a good tree to eate of, and lusty vnto the eies, & a pleasant tree forto geue vnderstandynge. And toke of the frute of it & ate, & gaue vnto her husband also wt her, & he ate. ⁷ And the eyes of bothe them were opened, that they vnderstode howe that they were naked. Than they sowed figge leues together and made them apurns.

¹⁵ Moreouer, I wyll put hatred betwene the & the woman, & betwene thy seed and her seed. And that seed shall tread the on thy heed, and thou shalt treade it on the hele.

⁸ And Cayn talked with Abel hys brother. And as soone as they were in the feldes, Cayn fell vpon Abell hys brother, & slewe hym. ⁹ And the Lorde sayd vnto Cayn: where is Abel thy brother? And he sayde: I can not tell, am I my brothers keper?

¹³ And he sayd vnto Abram: know this of a surety that thy sede shall be a stranger in a lande that perteyneth not vnto them. And they shall make bondmen of them & entreate them euell .iiij. hundred yeares.

¹¹ And the men that were at the doore of the house, they smotte wyth blyndnesse both small and greate: so that they coulde not fynde the doore.

¹⁰ Then she sayde vnto Abraham: put away this bondemaide & her sonne: for the sonne of this bondwoman shall not be heyre with my sonne Isaac:

¹⁸ And in thy seed shal al the nacions of the erth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed my voyce.

²¹ Than they sayde one to another: we haue verely synned agaynst oure brother, in that we sawe the anguysh of hys soull when he besought vs, & wold not heare him: therfore is thys troubyll come vpon vs. ²² Ruben answered them sayinge: sayd I not vnto you that ye shulde not synne agaynst the lad? but ye wolde not heare. And nowe verely see, hys bloud is requyred.

⁹ Iuda is a lyons whelpe, From spoyle my sonne thou art come an hye: he layde hym doune and couched hym selfe as a lyon, and as a lionesse. Who dare stere hym vp?

¹³ And the Egyptians helde the chyldren of Israell in bondage wythoute mercye, ¹⁴ and made theyr lyues bytter, vnto theym, wyth cruell laboure in clay and brycke, and all maner worcke in the fyeldes, and in all maner of seruice, whyche they caused theim to worcke cruellye.

¹⁴ Then sayd God vnto Moyses: I wilbe what I wyll be: & he said, this shalt thou say vnto the children of Israel: I wilbe did send me to you.

²² And tel Pharao, thus sayeth the Lorde: Israel is myne eldest sonne,

¹⁰ He that breaketh wedlocke with another mans wyfe shall dye for it, because he hath broke wedlocke with his neighbours wyfe, and so shall she lykewyse.

¹⁶ And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall dye for it: all the multitude shall stone him to death. And the straunger as well as the Israelyte if he curse the name, shal dye for it.

⁴² for they are my seruauntes which I brought out of the Land of Egypt, and shall not be solde as bondemen.

³ But Moses was a very make man aboue al the men of the erth.

²² For of al those men which haue sene my glorye & my miracles which I did in Egypte & in the wyldernesse, & yet haue tempted me now this .x. tymes & haue not herkened vnto my voyce,

²⁸ And Moses sayed hereby ye shall knowe that the Lorde hath sente me, to do all these worckes, & that I haue not done them of mine own mynd: ²⁹ If these men dye the commen death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men, then the Lorde hathe not sent me. ³⁰ But and if the Lorde make a newe thyng, and the earth open hyr mouth & swalowe theim, and all that pertayne vnto them, so that they go downe quicke vnto hel: then ye shal vnderstand, that these men haue rayled vpon the Lord.

¹ Ye are the chyldren of the lord your God, cut not your selues nor make you anye baldenesse betwene the eies for any mannes deth.

¹⁸ Iudges and officers thou shalt make the, in all thy gates which the Lord thy God geueth the thorowout thy trybes: & let them iudge the people ryghtuously.

⁶ At the mouth of .ij. or .iij. wytnesses shal he that is worthy of death dye: but at the mouth of one witnes he shal not dye.

⁹ and go vnto the priestes the Leuites, & to the iudge that shall be in those dayes, & aske, and they shall shewe the how to iudge.

¹⁵ One witnesse shal not ryse agaynst a man in any maner tresspace or synne, what souer synne a man synneth: But at the mouthe of two witnesses or of .iii. witnesses shal al maters betryed.

²¹ let them bryng her vnto the dore of her fathers house, & let the men of that cytie stone her wt stones to death, because she hath wrought folye in Israell, to play the whore in her fathers house. And so thou shalt put euel away from the. ²² If a man be founde lyinge with a woman, that hath a wedded husband, then let them dye ether other of them: both the man that laye with the wyfe and also the wyfe: so thou shalt put away euel from Israel. ²³ If a maid be hand fasted vnto an husband, and then a man fynde her in the towne & lye wyth her, ²⁴ then ye shal brynge them both out vnto the gates of the same cytie & shall stone them wt stones to death: The damsel because she cryed not beyng in the citie: And the man, because he hath humbled hys neyghbours wyfe, & thou shalt put away euell from the.

⁶ Doest thou so rewarde the Lord? O foleish nation and vnwise, Is not he thy father and thyne owner? hath he not made the & ordeyned the?

¹⁸ And when the Lorde raysed them vp Iudges, he was wyth the Iudge, and delyuered them out of the handes of theyr enemyes al the dayes of the Iudge: for the Lorde had compassyon ouer theyr sorowynges whiche they had by the reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them:

⁸ Therfore the Lorde was angrye wyth Israel, and deliuered them into the handes of Chusan Rasathaim Kynge of Mesopotamia. So that the chyldren of Israel serued Chusan Rasathaim .viij. yeares.

³ And the chyldren of Israel cryed vnto the Lorde: for he had nyne hundred charettes of yron, he oppressed the chyldren of Israel wyth power .xx. yeares.

¹⁴ Oh, that ye wolde feare the Lorde & serue hym, & heare hys voyce, & not disobeye the mouth of the Lorde: and that both ye and the Kynge that raygneth ouer you, wolde folow the Lorde your God.

⁷ But the Lorde sayde vnto Samuel: loke not on his fashion nor on the height of hys stature, for I haue refused hym. Because it is not as man seyth. For man loketh on the outward apperaunce, but the Lorde beholdeth the harte.

⁴⁴ And then the kinge sayde to Semei: thou remembrest all the wyckednesse whych thyne hert knoweth that thou diddest to Dauid my father. The Lorde therfore render agayn thy wyckednesse vpon thyne owne heade:

¹⁸ Then saide she vnto Eliah: what haue I done with the, O thou man of God? arte thou come vnto me, that my sinne shoulde be tought on & my sonne slayne?

¹⁰ As surely as the Lorde thy God lyueth, there is no nacyon or kyngedome, whether my Lord hath not sent, to seke the. And when they saide thou wast not there he toke an othe of the kyngedome & nacyon, because he founde the not.

¹⁰ and set two vnthriftes before him: and let them testifye agaynst hym sayinge: thou dyddest curse bothe God and the king: & vpon that carie him out & stone hym to death.

²⁵ For there was none at all lyke Ahab, that was so vtterly geuen to worcke wickednesse in the sight of the Lorde, and that because Iezabel his wyfe prycked hym forwarde.

²² And the Lorde saide: wherwyth? And he saide: I wil go out and be a false spirit in the mouthes of all his Prophetes. And the Lord sayde: thou shalt deceyue hym, and also preuayle, go forth and do euen so.

¹⁶ And they saide vnto him: se, there be amonge thy seruauntes fyftie lustie men: let them go and seke thy mayster: happlye the spirit of the Lorde hathe taken him vp & cast him vpon some mountain or in some valeye. And he saide: sende not. ¹⁷ Neuerthelesse yet they laye vpon him, til he was ashamed, and saide: sende, and they sent fyfty men, whiche sought him thre daies and thre nyghtes, but founde him not.

¹⁸ And when the soudyars came doune to him: Elizeus prayed vnto the Lorde & sayde. Smyte thys people wyth blyndnesse. And he smote them wyth blyndnes accordyng to the desyre of Elizeus. ¹⁹ Then Elizeus said vnto them this is not the waye, nor thys is not the toune: But folowe me, and I wyll bryng you to the man ye seke. And he led them to Samaria. ²⁰ When they were come to Samaria, Elyzeus sayde: Lorde, open theyr eyes & let them se. And the Lorde opened theyr eyes that they sawe. And behold they were in the myddes of Samaria

²⁶ For the Leuites were commytted to be pryncypall porters of fydelyte. And they had the ouersight of the vestryes and treasures of the house of God,

¹ And Satan stode vp agaynste Israel, and persuaded Dauid to nombre Israel.

²⁰ there came out a spyryte and stode before the Lorde and sayde: I wyll deceyue hym. And the Lord said to him: how? ²¹ And he said: I wyll go out & wilbe a lyinge spirite in the mouthes of all his prophetes. And the Lorde sayde: thou shalt deceyue him & shalt preuayle, go out and do euen so. ²² And now beholde the Lorde hath put a lyinge spyryte in the mouthes of all these thy prophetes & yet the Lorde hath spoken euyl against the.

⁹ For we are bondmen, and oure God hath not forsaken vs in oure bondage, and hath enclined mercy vnto vs in the syght of the kinges of Persia, that he should geue vs lyfe, and promote the house of oure God, & to set vp the desolacyon therof, and to geue vs an hedge in Iuda and Ierusalem.

⁴ But some sayde: let vs borowe money of the kynges trybute for oure landes and vyneyardes. ⁵ Now are oure brethrens bodyes as oure owne bodyes and their children as oure chyldren: els shoulde we subdue oure sonnes and doughters vnto bondage, & some of oure doughters are subdued already, and no strength is there in oure handes, and other men shall haue oure landes and vyneyardes. ⁶ But when I hearde theyr complaynte and such wordes, it displeased me sore, ⁷ and I aduysed so in my mynde, that I rebuked the councelers, and the rulers, and sayde vnto them: wyll ye requyre vsury one of another? And I brought a greate congregacion against them ⁸ and sayde vnto them: we (after oure abilyte) haue bought oure brethren the Iewes, which were solde vnto the heythen. And wyll ye sell youre brethren, whom we haue boughte vnto vs? Then helde they theyr peace, and coulde fynde nothynge to aunswere.

¹⁴ And from the tyme forth that it was commytted vnto me to be a captayne in the lande of Iuda, namely from the twentyeth year vnto the two and thyrtyeth yeare of kynge Arthaxerses (that is twelue yeare) I and my brethren lyued not of suche sustenaunce as was geuen to a captayne. ¹⁵ For the olde capytaynes that were before me, had bene chargeable vnto the people, and had taken of them bread and wyne, and fourtye sycles of syluer: yea and theyr seruauntes had oppressed the people. But so dyd not I, and that because of the feare of God. ¹⁶ I laboured also in the worke vpon the wall, and boughte no lande. And all my seruauntes came thither together vnto the worck. ¹⁷ Moreouer there were at my table an hundred and fyftye of the Iewes and rulers, whiche came vnto me, from among the Heythen, that are aboute vs. ¹⁸ And there was prepared me dayly an oxe, and syxe chosen shepe, and byrdes, and euer once in ten dayes a greate summe of wyne. Yet requyred not I the lyuynge of a captayne for the bondage was greuous vnto the people. ¹⁹ Thyncke vpon me my God vnto the best, accordynge to all that I haue done for thys people.

²⁷ Therfore gauest thou them ouer into the hande of theyr enemyes that vexed them. And in the tyme of theyr trouble they cried vnto the, and thou hardest them from heauen and thorowe thy greate mercye thou gaueste them sauyours, which helped them oute of the hande of theyr enemyes. ²⁸ But when they came to reste, they turned backe agayne to do euyll before the: therefore lefteste thou them in the hande of theyr ennemyes, so that they had the domynyon ouer them. So they conuerted, and cryed vnto the, and thou heardeste them from heauen, and manye tymes haste thou delyuered them accordynge to thy greate mercye,

³⁶ Beholde, therfore are we in bondage thys daye: yea euen in the lande that thou gaueste vnto oure fathers, to enioye the frutes and goodes thereof, beholde there are we bondemen. ³⁷ And greate is the increase of it vnto the kynges, whome thou haste set ouer vs because of oure synnes, and they haue domynyon ouer oure bodyes and cattell, and we are in great trouble.

¹¹ But laye thyne hande vpon him a lytle, touche ones all that he hath, and (I holde) he shall curse the to thy face.

⁴ Sathan answered the Lorde, and sayde: Skynne for skynne? yee a man will geue all that euer he hath, for his lyfe. ⁵ But laye thyne hande vpon him, touche hym ones vpon the bone and fleshe, and (I holde) he shall curse the to thy face. ⁶ Then sayde the Lorde vnto Sathan: lo, there hast thou hym in thy power, but spare his lyfe.

¹² Which destroyeth the deuyces of the sotyll, so that they are not able to performe the thinges that they take in hande: ¹³ whyche compasseth the wyse in theyr owne craftynesse, and ouerthroweth the councell of the wycked?

⁵ the prayse of the vngodlye hath bene shorte, and that the ioye of ypocrites continued but the twyncklyng of an eye?

¹¹ From his youth his bones are full of vyce, which shall lye downe wyth hym in the earth.

²⁷ The heauen shal declare his wickednesse, and the earth shall take parte agaynst hym.

²⁸ Yea he hath delyuered my soule from destruccyon, and my lyfe, that it seeth the lyght.

³¹ For so muche then as I haue begonne to talke of GOD, I wyll not hyndre the.

⁶ Yet haue I sette my kyng vpon my holy hyll of syon. ⁷ As for me, I wyll preache the law, wherof the Lord hath sayde vnto me: Thou arte my sonne, this day haue I begotten the. ⁸ Desyre of me, and I shall geue the Heathen for thyne enherytaunce. Yea the vttermost partes of the worlde for thy possessyon. ⁹ Thou shalt rule them wyth a rodde of yron, and breake them in peces lyke an earthen vessell. ¹⁰ Be wyse nowe therfore, O ye Kinges, be warned, ye that are iudges of the earthe. ¹¹ Serue the Lorde wyth feare, and reioyse before hym wyth reuerence. ¹² Kysse the sonne, lest the Lorde be angrye and so ye peryshe from the ryght way. For his wrath shalbe kindled shortly: blessed are all they that put their trust in hym.

¹⁵ As for the Heathen, thei are suncken doune in the pytte that they made: in the same nette which they spred out priuely, is their owne feete taken. ¹⁶ Thus the Lord is knowen to execute true iudgemente, when the vngodly is trapped in the woorkes of hys owne handes. Selah.

⁴ Because of the woordes of thy lippes, I haue kepte me from the workes of men, in the waye of the murtherer.

²⁸ Thou lyghtest my candell, O Lorde my God: thou maketh my darcknesse to be light

¹³ Kepe the seruaunt also from presumptuous synnes, lest they get the dominion ouer me: so shall I be vndefyled and innocent from the greate offence.

⁶ But as for me, I am a worme & no man: a very scorne of men and the outcaste of the people.

⁵ Lede me in thy trueth and learne me, for thou art the God of my healthe, and in the is my hope al the day long.

⁸ O how frendly & rightuous is the Lord, therfore will he teach synners in the way. ⁹ He ledeth the symple a right, & suche as be meke them lerneth he his wayes.

¹⁸ Let the lieng lippes be put to silence which cruely, disdainefully, and despitefully speake against the rightuous.

¹² The vngodly layeth wayte for the iust, & gnassheth vpon him with his tethe.

³² The vngodly seyth the righteous, & goeth aboute to slaye hym.

¹² They that sought after my lyfe, and to do me euell, spake of lyes & ymagined disceate all the daye longe. ¹³ As for me, I was lyke a deaf man & herde not: and as one that were domme, not openynge hys mouth. ¹⁴ I am become as a man that heareth not: and that can make no resistaunce wyth hys mouth.

¹ To the chanter for Iduthun, a Psalme of Dauid. I sayde: I wyll kepe my wayes that I offende not in my tonge And so I shutte my mouthe whyle the vngodly layed wait for me.

¹⁴ Let them be ashamed and confunded, that seke after my soule, to destroye it: let them fall backwarde and be put to confusion, that wish me euell.

⁶ Thy seate (O God) endureth for euer: the scepter of thy kyngdome is a right scepter. ⁷ Thou hast loued righteousnesse, & hated iniquitie: wherfore God (which is thy God) hath anoynted the with the oyle of gladnes aboue thy felowes.

¹⁹ But when he foloweth his fathers generacion, he shall neuer se light any more.

¹⁶ But vnto the vngodly sayeth God? Why doest thou preach my lawes, and takest my couenaunt in thy mouth? ¹⁷ Where as thou hatest to be refourmed, and castest my woordes behynde the? ¹⁸ If thou seist a thefe, thou runnest wyth him, and art partaker with the aduouterers. ¹⁹ Thou lettest thy mouthe speake wickednesse, and thy tonge paynteth disceate. ²⁰ Thou sittest & speakest agaynste thy brother, yea, & sclaundrest thyne owne mothers sonne. ²¹ This thou doest, whyle I holde my tonge and thynkest me to be euen suche one as thy self: but I wyll reproue the, and set my selfe agaynst the.

¹⁸ Namely, how thou hast set them in a slippery place, that thou mayst cast them doune headlinges and destroye them. ¹⁹ O how sodenly do they consume, perysh, and come to a fearful ende? ²⁰ Yea, euen like as a dreame when one awaketh, so makest thou their ymage too vanysh out of the cytye.

⁴⁸ What man is he that lyueth, and shall not se death? Maye a man deliuer his owne soule from the hande of hell? Selah.

²⁰ Wilt thou haue any thing to do with the stoole of wickednesse, which ymagineth mischief in the lawe? ²¹ They gather them together agaynste the soule of the righteous, and condemne the innocent bloude.

²³ O turne you vnto my correccion: lo. I wil expres my mynde vnto you, & make you vnderstande my wordes.

¹⁸ The path of the ryghtuous shyneth as the lyghte, and is euer brighter and brighter vnto the perfecte daye.

²² The wyckednesses of the vngodly shal catch him selfe, and with the snares of of his owne synnes shall he be trapped.

²⁷ Like as it is not good to eate to much hony, euen so he that wil search out hyghe things, it shalbe to heuy for him.

⁴ Geue not the foole an answere after hys folyshnesse, lest thou become lyke vnto hym: ⁵ but make the fole an answer to his folishnes, lest he be wise in his own conceat.

¹⁷ Who so goeth by & medleth wyth other mens stryfe, he is lyke one that taketh a dog by the eares.

⁵ Wycked men discerue not the thynge that is ryght, but they that seke after the Lord, discusse al thynges.

¹³ He that hydeth hys synnes, shall not prospere: but who so knowledgeth them and forsaketh them shal haue mercy.

² The spyryt of the Lorde shall lyghte vpon it, the spyryte of wisedome and vnderstandynge: the spirit of councell, & strength: the spirite of knowledge, and of the feare of God: ³ and shall make him feruent in the feare of God. For he shall not geue sentence, after the thinge that shall be brought before his eyes, neyther reproue a matter at the fyrst hearing ⁴ but wyth ryghteousnesse shall he iudge the poore, and with holynes shal he refourme the symple of the worlde. ⁴ The Lorde God hath geuen me a wel learned tunge, so that I can comforte them whiche are troubled, yea & that in due ceason. He waked myne eare vp by tymes in the mornynge (as the scolemasters do) that I myght herken. ⁵ The Lord God hath opened myne eare, therfore can I not saye naye, nor withdrawe my selfe, ⁶ but I offre my backe vnto the smyters, & my chekes to the uyppers. I turne not my face from shame & spyttynge, ⁷ for the Lorde God helpeth me, therfore shall I not be confounded. I haue hardened my face like a flynt stone, for I am sure, that I shall not come to confusyon. ⁸ Myne aduocate speaketh for me, who wyl then go with me to law? Let vs stand one agaynste another: yf there be any that wyll reason with me, let him come here forth to me. ⁹ Beholde the Lord God standeth by me, what is he that can condempne me? lo, they shalbe all lyke as an olde clothe, whiche the mothes shall eate vp. ¹⁰ Therfore who so feareth the Lorde among you let hym heare the voyce of hys seruaunt, Who so walketh in darcknesse, and no lyghte shyneth vpon hym, let hym hope in the Lord, and holde hym by his God.

³ He shalbe the most simple, and despysed of all, which yet hath good experience of sorowes & infyrmyties. We shall reken him so symple and so vyle, that we shall hyde our faces from hym.

Are ye not children of aduoutry, and a sede of dissimulacion? ⁵ Ye take youre pleasure vnder the okes, and vnder all grene trees, the childe beyng slayne in the valleys, and dennes of stone. ⁶ Thy part shalbe with the stony rockes by the ryuer. Yea euen these shalbe thy part. For there thou hast poured meat and drinckeofferinges vnto them. Shoulde I ouerse that? ⁷ Thou hast made thy bed vpon hye mountaynes, thou wentest vp thither, and there hast thou slayne sacryfyces.

¹ The spirite of the Lorde God is with me, for the Lorde hath annointed me, & sent me, to preache good tydinges vnto the poore, that I myght binde vp the wounded hertes, that I myght preach delyueraunce to the captyue, and open the preson to them that are bounde:

¹⁶ Yet art thou oure father: For Abraham knoweth vs not, neither is Israel acquainted with vs. But thou Lorde art oure father and redemer and thy name is euerlastinge.

⁸ But now O Lorde, thou father of oures: we are al the claye, and thou art our potter & we are al the worke of thy handes.

²⁰ There shal neuer be chylde, nor olde man, that haue not their full dayes. But when the childe cometh to an hundreth yeare olde it shall dye. And yf he that is an hundreth yeare of age do wronge, he shalbe cursed.

⁵ Heare the worde of God all ye, that feare the thynge whyche he speaketh. Your brethren that hate you, and cast you out for my names sake, saye: Let the Lorde magnyfye him selfe, that we may see youre gladnesse: and yet they shalbe confounded.

¹⁹ I haue shewed also, howe I toke the vp beynge but a chylde, & gaue the a pleasaunt lande for thyne heretage, yea & a goodly Hoste of the heathen: & how I commaunded the, that thou shouldest cal me father only, & not to shrynck from me.

²² Neuertheles this shal come vpon them, because my people is become folysh, and hath vtterly no vnderstandynge. They are the children of folishnes, and without any dyscrecion. To do euill, they haue wyt ynoughe: but to do wel, they haue no wisdome.

¹⁰ But vnto whome shall I speake, whome shall I warne that he maye take hede? Theyr eares are so vncircumcyced, that they maye not heare. Beholde, they take the worde of God but for a scorne, & haue no luste therto.

¹⁶ Thus sayth the Lorde: go into the streates considre and make inquisicion for the old way and yf it be the good and right waye, then go therein, that ye maye fynde rest for your soules. But they saye: we wyll not walcke therin

³ They bende theyr tunges lyke bowes, to shute oute lyes. As for the trueth, they may nothynge awaye with all in the worlde. For they go from one wyckednes to another, & hold nothinge of me, sayeth the Lorde.

³ From the .xiij. yeare of Iosiah the sonne of Amon kynge of Iuda, vnto this present daye (that is euen .xxiij. yeare) the worde of the Lorde hath bene commytted vnto me. And so I haue spoken to you, I haue rysen vp early I haue geuen you warnyng in season, but ye wolde not heare me.

²⁰ Vpon this complainte, I thoughte thus by my selfe: is not Ephraim my deare sonne? Is he not the chylde, with whom I haue had all myrthe and pastyme? For sence the tyme that I fyrst commened with him, I haue him euer in remembraunce: therfore my verye herte dryueth me vnto hym, gladly and louynglye will I haue mercy vpon him, sayth the Lorde.

³³ But thys shall be the couenaunte that I wyll make with the house of Israel after those dayes, sayeth the Lorde: I wyll plante my lawe in the inwarde partes of them, & wryte it in theyr hertes, and wilbe theyr God, and they shalbe my people. ³⁴ And from thence forth shall no man teache his neyghboure or his brother, and say know the Lorde: But they shall all knowe me, from the loweste vnto the hyeste, sayeth the Lorde. For I wyll forgeue theyr mysdedes, and wil neuer remembre theyr sinnes any more.

⁴ How be it, I sent vnto them my seruauntes al the prophetes: I rose vp earlye, I sent vnto them, and gaue them warninge: O do no such abhominable thinges, & thinges that I hate.

³⁸ Moreouer, I will iudge the as a breaker of wedlocke and a murtherer, & recompence the thyne owne bloud in wrath and gelousy. ³⁹ I will geue the ouer into their power, that shal breake doune thy stewes, and destroye thy brodel houses, they shall stryppe the oute of thy clothes, al thy fayre and beutyfull Iewels shall they take from the, and so let the syt naked and bare: ⁴⁰ yea they shal bryng the comen people vpon the, whiche shall stone the, and slaye the doune with their sweardes.

³⁰ As for me I will iudge euery man, accordynge to hys wayes, O ye house of Israel, sayeth the Lord God. Wherfore be conuerted, and turne you cleane from all youre wickednesse, so shall there no sinne do you harme. ³¹ Caste awaye from you all your vngodlinesse, that ye haue done: make you new hertes and a new spirit. Wherfore will ye dye, O ye house of Israel? ³² seyng, I haue no pleasure in the death of him that dyeth, sayeth the Lorde God. Turne you then, and ye shall lyue.

Hys power is an euerlastynge power, whych shal neuer be put doune, and his kingdome endureth vncorrupte.

² First when the Lorde spake vnto Oseas, he sayde vnto him: Go thy waye, take an harlot to thy wyfe, and get chyldren by her: for the lande hath committed greate whordome agaynst the Lorde.

⁹ Then sayd he: cal his name Lo amy. For why? ye are not my people, therfore wyll I not be youres.

² As for youre mother, ye shal chyde with her, & reproue her, for she is not my wyfe, neyther am I her husbande, vnlesse she put awaye her whordom out of my syght, and her aduoutry from her brestes. ³ Yf no I shal strype her naked and sette her, euen as she came into the worlde: yea, I shall lay her waste, and make her like a wildernesse, and slay her for thirst. ⁴ I shal haue no pyte also vpon her children, for they be the children of fornicacyon. ⁵ Their mother hath broken their wedlocke, and she that bare them, is come to confusyon. For she sayd: I will go after my louers, that geue me my water and bread, my woll and flax, my oyle and my drincke.

⁴ They are not minded to turne vnto their God, for they haue an whoryshe herte, so that they can not know the Lorde.

³ Then shall we haue vnderstanding, and endeuoure oure selues to knowe the Lorde. He shall go forth as the springe of the daye, & come vnto vs as the eueninge and morninge rayne vpon the earth.

⁹ Who so is wyse, shall vnderstande thys: & he that is ryght instructe, wyll regarde it. For the wayes of the Lorde are ryghteous, suche as be Godlye wil walcke in them: As for the wicked, they wyll stomble therin.

⁷ Ye turne the lawe to worm wode, and caste doune ryghtuousnes vnto the grounde.

¹⁰ but they owe hym euill wil, that reproueth them openly, and who so telleth them the playn truth they abhorre hi

¹³ Therfore the wyse muste nowe be fayne to holde hys tunge, so wicked a time is it.

¹² Who can runne with horses, or plow with oxen vpon the herde rockes of stone? For why? ye haue turned true iudgement into bytternesse, & the frute of ryghtuousnesse into worm wood:

² And thou Bethleem Ephrata, art lytle among the thousandes of Iuda, Out of the shall come vnto me, whyche shall be the gouernoure in Israell: whose out goinge hath bene from the begynnyge, and from euerlastynge.

⁴ for the lawe is toarne in peces, and there can no ryghte iudgemente go forthe. And why? the vngodly is more set by then the rightuous: this is the cause, that wronge iudgemente procedeth. ⁵ What is nowe become of your forefathers & the prophetes? are they yet styll aliue? ⁶ But dyd not my wordes and statutes (which I commaunded by my seruauntes the prophetes) touche your forefathers? Vpon this, they gaue aunswere and sayde: lyke as the Lord of hostes deuysed to do vnto vs, accordynge to oure owne wayes & ymagynacyons, euen so hath he dealte wyth vs.

⁹ Reioyce thou greatly, O doughter Syon, be glad, O doughter Ierusalem. For lo, thy king commeth vnto the, euen the ryghteous & Sauioure: Lowly and simple is he, he rydeth vpon an asse, & vpon the foale of an asse.

¹¹ Thou also thorow thy bloude of thy couenaunt, shalte let thy presoners out of the pyt, wherin is no water. ¹² Turne you nowe to the strong holde, ye that be in preson, & long sore to be delyuered: And this daye I brynge the word, that I wil rewarde the double agayn.

⁶ Should not a sonne honoure his father, & a seruaunte hys mayster? Yf I be now a father, where is mine honoure? Yf I be the Lorde, where am I feared? sayeth the Lord of hostes. Now to you priestes, that despise my name. And yf ye saye: wherin haue we despised thy name:

¹¹ Now hath Iuda offended, yea, the abhomynacyon is done in Israel & in Ierusalem, for Iuda hath defiled the Sanctuarye of the Lorde, whyche he loned, & haue kept the doughter of a straunge God.

² But vnto you that feare my name, shall the Sonne of ryghteousnesse aryse, and healthe shalbe vnder his winges: ye shal go forth, & multipply as the fat calues.

⁷ When he sawe many of the Phariseis & of the Saduces come to his baptisme, he sayd vnto them: O generacion of vipers, who hath taught you to fle from the vengaunce to come?

⁹ And se that ye once thinke not to saye in your selues, we haue Abraham to our father. For I say vnto you, that God is able of these stones rayse vp children vnto Abraham.

¹⁴ to fulfil that which was spoken by Esay the prophete, sayinge. ¹⁵ The lande of Zabulon and Nephthalym, the waye of the sea beyonde Iordan, Galile of the gentils, ¹⁶ the people which sate in darkenes, sawe great light, & to them which sate in the regyon and shadowe of death, light is begonne to shine.

¹ When he sawe the people, he went vp into a mountaine, and when he was set his disciples came to him, ² and he opened his mouth, and taught them sayinge,

¹⁴ Ye are the light of the worlde. A cytye that is set on an hill, can not be hid,

¹⁷ Thinke not that I am come to destroy the lawe, or the prophetes: no I am not come to destroy them, but to fulfil them. ¹⁸ For truly I say vnto you, til heauen & earth perish, one iote or one title of the lawe shal not escape, til al be fulfilled

⁴⁵ that ye may be the chyldren of youre father that is in heauen: for he maketh his sonne to aryse on the yuyll, and on the good and sendeth his raine on the iust and vniust.

¹ Ivdge not, that ye be not iudged. ² For as ye iudge so, shall ye be iudged. And with what measur ye meate, with the same shal it be measured to you agayne. ³ Why seiste thou a moote in thy brothers eye, & perceyuest not the beame that is in thyne owne eye? ⁴ Or why saist thou to thy brother: suffer me to plucke out the moote out of thyne eye, & beholde a beame is in thyne owne eye? ⁵ Hypocrite, first caste out the beame out of thyne owne eye, and then shalte thou se clearelye to plucke out the moote out of thy brothers eye.

⁵ These .xij. sent Iesus forth after he had geuen to them commaundement sainge Go not into the wayes that lead to the gentyls, & into the cityes of the Samaritanes enter ye not.

¹⁶ Beholde I sende you forth as shepe among wolues. Be ye therfore wyse as serpentes, and innocent as doues.

²⁵ It is ynough for the discyple to be as his master is, and that the seruaunt be as hys Lorde is. If they haue called the good man of the house him selfe belzebub: how muche more shal they call them of his housholde so?

²⁵ At that time Iesus aunswered and said: I prayse the, O father Lorde of heauen and earth, because thou hast hid these thinges from the wyse and prudent, and hast opened theim vnto babes:

²⁷ All thinges are geuen vnto me of my father. And no man knoweth the sonne but the father: neyther knoweth anye man the father, saue the sonne, and he to whom the sonne wyl open hym.

²⁹ Take my yocke on you and learne of me, for I am meke and lowly in herte: and ye shall fynde reste vnto your soules.

⁶ But I say vnto you: that here is one greater then the temple.

²⁴ But when the Pharyseis hearde that they sayde: This felowe driueth the deuils no nother wyse out but by the helpe of Belzebub the chiefe of the deuils.

³¹ Wherfore I saye vnto you, all maner of synne and blasphemy of forgeuen vnto men: but the blasphemy of the sprete, shall not be forgeuen vnto men.

⁴¹ The men of Niniuye shall ryse at the daye of iudgement with this nacion, and condemne them: for thei amended at the preaching of Ionas: And beholde, a greater then Ionas is here. ⁴² The quene of the south shall ryse at the daye of iudgement with this generacion, and shall condemne theim: for she came from the vttermost parties of the worlde to hear the wysdome of Salomon. And beholde a greater then Salomon is here.

¹¹ He aunswered and sayde vnto theym: it is geuen vnto you to know the secretes of the kyngdom of heauen, but to them it is not geuen ¹² For whosoeuer hath to hym shalbe geuen, and he shall haue aboundaunce. But whosoeuer hath not: from hym shalbe taken awaye euen that he hath.

¹⁵ For this people hertes are waxed grosse, and their eares were dull of hearynge, and their eyes haue they closed, lest they should se with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and shoulde vnderstand with their hertes, & should tourne that I myght heale them.

¹⁷ Verely I say vnto you, that many Prophetes and perfecte men haue desired to se the thinges whyche ye se, & haue not sene theim: and to heare the thynges which ye heare, and haue not heard them.

¹⁹ Whosoeuer heareth the word of the kyngedome and vnderstandeth it not, there cometh the euill man, and catcheth awaye that which was sowen in hys hert, and this is he whiche was sowen by the way side. ²⁰ But he that was sowen in the stony grounde, is he which heareth the worde of God, and anone with ioye receyueth it, ²¹ yet hath he no rootes in hym selfe, and therefore dureth but a season. For assone as tribulation or persecucion ariseth because of the word, by and by he falleth. ²² He that was sowen among thornes, is he that heareth the worde of God: but the care of thys world, and the disceythfulnes of ryches choke the word, & so is he made vnfruteful.

³⁸ And the fielde is the worlde. And the chyldren of the kyngdom, they are the good seede. And the tares are the chyldren of the wycked.

⁷ Hypocrites, well prophecied of you Esaias sayinge:

²³ And he gaue her neuer a woorde to aunswer. Then came to hym hys disciples, & besoughte hym saying: sende her away, for she foloweth vs criyng.

Let not man therefore put a sunder, that whiche God hath couppled together. ⁷ Then sayd they to him: why did Moyses commaund to geue a testimoniall of diuorcement, & to put her awaye? ⁸ He sayde vnto them: Moyses because of the hardnes of youre hertes suffred you to put away your wyfes: But from the beginning it was not so.

¹ When they drewe nygh vnto Ierusalem, and were come too Bethphage, to mount Oliuete: then sent Iesus two of his disciples,

²⁵ The baptisme of Iohn whence was it: from heauen or of men? Then they reasoned amonge themselues, sayinge: yf we shall saye from heauen, he wyll laye vnto vs: why dyd ye not then beleue hym?

²⁸ What saye ye to thys? A certayne man had two sonnes, and came to the elder and sayde: sonne go and worke to daye in my vyneyarde. ²⁹ He answered and sayde, I wyll not: but after warde repented and wente. ³⁰ Then came he to the seconde, and sayed lykewyse. And he answered and sayed: I wyll syr: yet wente not. ³¹ Whether of them twayne dyd the wyll of the father? And they sayde vnto hym: the fyrst. Iesus sayde vnto them: verelye I saye vnto you, that the Publycans and the harlotes shall come into the kyngedome of God before you.

⁴¹ They sayed vnto hym: he wyll cruellye destroye those euyll persons, and wyll let out hys vyneyarde vnto other husbandmen, which shall delyuer hym the frute at tymes conuenient. ⁴² Iesus sayde vnto them: dyd ye neuer reade in the scriptures. The stone which the buylders refused, the same is set in the principall parte of the corner: thys was the Lordes doynge, and it is meruelous in oure eyes. ⁴³ Therfore saye I vnto you the kyngdome of God shalbe taken from you, and shalbe gyuen to the gentyles, whiche shall brynge forth the frutes of it.

¹⁶ And they sent vnto hym theyr discyples with Herodes seruauntes sayinge: Mayster, we knowe that thou art true, & teachest the waye of God truely: neither carest for any man, for thou considerest not mennes estate. ¹⁷ Tel vs therfor how thinkest thou. ²⁵ Wo be to you Scribes and Pharises hypocrites, which make cleane the vtter side of the cuppe, & of the platter: but within they are ful of bribery and excesse. ²⁶ Thou blynd Pharisei, clense first the ynneside of the cup & platter, that the outside of them may be clene also. ²⁷ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrytes, for ye are lyke vnto paynted tombes, whiche appeare beautifull outwarde, but are within full of dead bones and of all filthines. ²⁸ So are ye, for outwarde ye apeare righteouse vnto men, when within, ye are full of hypocresie and iniquitie.

³⁹ For I saye to you, ye shall not se me hence forth tyll that ye saye blessed is he that commeth in the name of the Lorde.

²³ Then if anye man shall saye vnto you: lo here is Christe, or there is christ: beleue it not. ²⁴ For there shall aryse false Christes, and false prophetes, and shall do great myracles and wonders. In so much that if it were possyble the very electe should be deceiued.

⁴¹ Then shall the kinge saye vnto them that shalbe on the lyfte hande. Departe from me ye cursed, into euerlastinge fyre, which is prepared for the deuyll and hys angels.

⁴⁶ And these shall go into euerlasting payne. And the righteouse into lyfe eternall.

⁵⁵ The same tyme sayde Iesus to the multitude: ye be come out as it were vnto a thief with sweardes and staues, for to take me. I sat daylye teachynge in the temple amonge you, and ye toke me not.

⁶³ But Iesus held hys peace: And the chief Priest answered and sayed to hym: I charge the in the name of the liuynge God, that thou tell vs whyther thou be Christ the sonne of God.

⁶ And the chief priestes toke the syluer plates, & sayed: it is not lawfull for to putte them into the treasury, because it is the pryce of bloude.

⁵⁰ Iesus cryed agayne with a loude voyce and yeldeth vp the ghost. ⁵¹ And beholde the vayle of the tempell dyd rent in twayne from the toppe to the bottome and the earth dyd quake, and the rockes did rent, ⁵² and graues did open, and the bodies of manye saynctes which slept arose ⁵³ & came out of the graues after his resurreccion: and came into the holy citie and appered vnto manye. ⁵⁴ When the Centurion and they that were with hym watchinge Iesus, sawe the earth quake and those thinges whiche happened they feared greatly sayinge: Of a surtye this was the sonne of God.

³ And as he sate on mounte Olyuete, ouer agaynst the temple, Peter, & Iames, & Iohn, & Andrewe axed hym secretelye:

⁶ For manye shall come in my name, sayinge: I am Christ, and shall deceyue manye.

²⁹ and rose vp, and thrust him out of the citye, & ledde him euen vnto the edge of the hyll, where on their cytye was bult, to cast hym doune hedlynge. ³⁰ But he wente his way euen through the myddes of them.

³ And he entred into one of the shyppes, which pertayned to Symon, and prayed him, that he woulde thruste out a lytle from the lande. And he sat doune and taught the people out of the shyppe.

³² I am not come to cal the rightuous, but synners to repentaunce.

And that whiche ye haue spoken in the eare, euen in secrete places, shall be preached euen on the toppe of the housses.

For it can not be, that a prophet perysh any other wher, saue at Hierusalem

⁷ I saye vnto you, that lykewyse ioye shalbe in heauen ouer one synner, that repenteth, more then ouer nyntye and nyne iust persons whiche nede no repentaunce.

³¹ And he sayde vnto hym: sonne thou wast euer with me, and all that I haue, is thyne. ³² It was mete that we shoulde make merye, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is aliue again and was loste, and is founde.

The ryche man also dyed and was buryed. ²³ And beynge in hell in tormentes, he lyfte vp hys eyes, and sawe Abraham a farre of, & Lazarus in his bosome, ²⁴ and he cryed & sayed: father Abraham haue mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he maye dyppe the typpe of his fynger in water, and cole my tonge, for I am tormented in this flamme. ²⁵ But Abraham sayd vnto hym. Sonne, remembre that thou in thy lyfe tyme, receyuedest thy pleasure, and contrarywyse Lazarus payne. Nowe therfore is he conforted, and thou arte punyshed. ²⁶ Beyonde all thys, betwene you and vs there is a great space set, so that they whiche would go from hence to you can not, neyther maye come from thence to vs.

³⁷ And when he was nowe come, where he shoulde go doune from the mount Oliuete, the whole multitude of the discyples beganne to reioyce, and to laude God with a loude voyce for all the myracles that they had sene,

For they perceiued that he had spoken thys similitude against them. ²⁰ And they watched hym, and sent forthe spyes whiche shoulde fayne them selues perfect, to take him in his wordes, and to delyuer him vnto the power and authoritie of the debitie. ²¹ And they axed him, saiynge: Mayster, we knowe that thou sayest and teachest right, neyther consyderest thou any mans degree, but teachest the waye of God truely. ²² Is it laufull for vs to geue Cesar tribute or no? ²³ He perceyued theyr craftynes, and sayde vnto them. Why tempt ye me?

⁸ And he sayd: take hede that ye be not deceiued. For manye wyll come in my name saiynge: I am he and the tyme draweth neare. Folowe not them therfore.

¹² But as manye as receyued him to them he gaue power to be the sonnes of God in that they beleued on his name ¹³ & which were borne not of the bloude nor of the wyl of the flesh, nor yet of the wyll of man: but of God. ¹⁴ And the worde was made flesh & dwelt amonge vs, and we sawe the glorye of it, as the glory of the onlye begotten sonne of the father, which worde was ful of grace & verite.

He was a murtherer from the begynnyng, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truthe in hym. When he speaketh a lye, then speaketh he of hys owne. For he is a lyar, and the father therof. ⁴⁵ And because I tell you the truthe, therfore ye beleue me not.

³³ The Iewes aunswered him, saiynge: For thy good workes sake we stone the not, but for thy blasphemye, and because that thou beynge a man, makest thy selfe God. ³⁴ Iesus aunswered them: is it not wrytten in youre lawe. I saye: ye are Goddes?

¹⁵ Henceforth call I you not seruauntes: for the seruaunt knoweth not what hys lorde doth. But you haue I called frendes, for all thynges that I haue heard of my father, I haue opened vnto you.

³⁹ And assone as they were come out of the water, the spyryte of the Lorde caught awaye Phylip, that the chamberlayne sawe him no more. And he went on his waie reioysinge: ⁴⁰ but Philippe was found at Azotus. And he walked thorow out the countrie preachynge in theyr cytyes, tyll he came to Cesarea.

⁶ Thys we muste remember, that oure olde man is crucified wyth hym also, that the bodye of synne myght vtterlye be destroyed, that hence forthe we should not be seruauntes of synne.

⁷ What then? Israell hath not obtayned that, that he soughte. No but the electyon hath obtayned it. The remnaunte are blynded, ⁸ accordynge as it is wrytten. God hath geuen them the spirite of vnquyetnes: eyes that they should not se, and eares that they shoulde not heare euen vnto thys daye. ⁹ And Dauyd sayth: Let theyr table be made a snare to take them wyth all, and an occasyon to fall, and a reward vnto them. ¹⁰ Let theyr eyes be blynded that they se not: and euer bowe doune theyr backes.

³ Wyth me it is but a very smal thinge, that I shoulde be iudged of you, eyther of (mans daye). No I iudge not myne owne selfe. ⁴ I knowe nought by my selfe: yet am I not therby iustified. It is the Lorde that iudgeth me. ⁵ Therfore iudge nothinge before the tyme vntill the Lorde come, who wyll lyghten thinges, that are hyd in darckenes, and open the counsels of the hertes. And then shall euery man haue praise of God.

²² whiche dyd no synne, neyther was there gyle founde in hys mouth: ²³ which when he was reuyled, reuyled not agayne: when he suffered, he threatened not: but commytted the cause to him that iudgeth ryghtuously,

⁸ Be sober and watch, for your aduersary the deuyll as a roringe Lyon walketh aboute, sekinge whom he may deuour,

⁴ and hys tayle drewe the thyrde parte of the starres, and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stode before the woman, whyche was redye to be delyuered, for to deuoure her chyld assone as it were borne.

⁶ And he opened hys mouth vnto blasphemy agaynste God, to blaspheme hys name, and his tabernacle and them that dwell in heauen. ⁷ And it was geuen vnto hym to make warre wyth the Saynctes, and to ouercome them. And power was geuen hym ouer al kynredes, tonges and nacions, ⁸ and al that dwel vpon the earth worshipte him, whose names are not written in the boke of lyfe of the lambe, which was killed from the beginning of the worlde.

¹⁴ And deceiued them that dwelt on the earth by the meanes of those sygnes, which he had power to do in the syght of the beaste, saying to them that dwelt on the earth, that they should make an ymage vnto the beaste, whyche had the wounde of a swearde, and dyd lyue.

And after that he must be loused for a lytle season.

⁷ And when the thousand yeres are expired, Sathan shal be loused out of hys pryson, ⁸ & shal go out to deceiue the people which are in the four quarters of the earthe Gog & Magog, to gether them together to battayle, whose nomber is as the sande of the sea, ⁹ & they went vpon the playne of the earth, & compassed the tentes of the saynctes about & the beloued cytye. And fyre came doune from God, out of heauen, & deuoured them: ¹⁰ & the deuyll that deceyued them, was caste into a lake of fyre and brymstone, where the beast and the false Prophet were & shalbe tormented daye and nyghte for euermore.

⁸ But the fearful and vnbeleuing, & the abhominable, & murtherers, & whoremongers, & sorcerers, & ydolaters, & al lyars shall haue their parte in the lake which burneth wt fyre & brymstone, which is the seconde death.

²⁴ And the people which are saued, shall walke in the light of it: & the kinges of the earth shal brynge theyr glory vnto it.

¹ And he shewed me a pure ryuer of water of life cleare as cristal: procedyng out of the seat of god and of the lambe.

¹⁵ For without shal be dogges & inchaunters, & whoremongers, and murtherers & Idolaters and whosoeuer loueth or maketh leasynges.
