³ They bende theyr tunges lyke bowes, to shute oute lyes. As for the trueth, they may nothynge awaye with all in the worlde. For they go from one wyckednes to another, & hold nothinge of me, sayeth the Lorde.

¹⁰ And euen so all that generacyon were put vnto theyr fathers, & there arose another generacyon after them which nether knewe the Lord, nor yet the worckes which he dyd vnto Israel.

¹² But the sonnes of Eli were vnthryftye chyldren, and knewe not the Lorde.

² Thy tonge ymagyneth wyckednesse, and with lyes it cutteth like a sharpe rasoure. ³ Thou loueste vngratiousnesse more then good, to talke of lyes more then ryghtuousnesse. Selah. ⁴ Thou louest to speake al wordes that may do hurte. O thou false tonge.

³ Which whet their tonges lyke a sweard, and shote wyth their veneymous words like as with arowes. ⁴ That they maye preuely hurt the innocent sodenly to hyt him wythout any feare.

² Delyuer my soule, O Lord from liyng lippes, and from a disceatful tonge. ³ What rewarde shalbe geuen or done vnto the, thou false tonge. ⁴ Euen myghty and sharpe arowes, wyth hote burnynge coales.

³ For your handes are defiled with bloud and youre fyngers with vnryghteousnesse. Youre lippes speake lesinges, and your tong setteth oute wickednes. ⁴ Noman regardeth righteousnes, and noman iudged truely. Euery man hopeth in vayne thinges, and ymagyneth disceyte, conceyueth werynesse, and bringeth forth euyl. ⁵ They brede cockatrice egges, and weue the spyders webbe Who so eateth of their egges, dyeth. But yf one treade vpon them, there commeth vp a serpent.

¹³ Namely transgresse and dissemble agaynst the Lorde, and fall awaye from oure God: vsinge presumptuous and trayterous ymaginacions, and castynge false matters in oure hertes. ¹⁴ And therfore is equyte gone a syde, & ryghteousnes standeth farre of: truthe is fallen doune in the strete, and the thinge that is playne and open, maye not be shewed. ¹⁵ Yea, the truth is layde in preson, and he that refraineth him selfe from euyl, must be spoyled. When the Lorde sawe this, it dyspleased him sore, that there was no where any equite.

²² Neuertheles this shal come vpon them, because my people is become folysh, and hath vtterly no vnderstandynge. They are the children of folishnes, and without any dyscrecion. To do euill, they haue wyt ynoughe: but to do wel, they haue no wisdome.

²⁶ yet wolde they not herken, nor offre me theyr eares, but were obstynate and worse then theyr fathers.

⁵ Yea one dyssembleth with another, & they deale wyth no trueth. They haue practysed theyr tunges to lye, and taken greate paynes to do myschefe.

⁸ Their tunges are lyke sharpe arowes, to speake disceyte. Wyth theyr mouthe they speake peaceably to theyr neyghboure, but preuely they laye wayte for hym.

¹⁶ Yee when he helped the oppressed and poore to their ryght then prospered he well. From whence came this, but onlye because he had me before hys eyes, sayth the Lorde.

³⁴ And from thence forth shall no man teache his neyghboure or his brother, and say know the Lorde: But they shall all knowe me, from the loweste vnto the hyeste, sayeth the Lorde. For I wyll forgeue theyr mysdedes, and wil neuer remembre theyr sinnes any more.

¹ Heare the word of the lorde o ye children of Israel. For the lord must punish them, that dwel in the land. And why? There is no faithfulnes, there is no mercy there is no knoweledge of God in the lande: ² but swearing, lyinge, manslaughter, theft, & aduoutry haue gotten the ouerhande, & one bloudgilthinesse foloweth another. ³ Therfore shall the land be in a miserable case, & al they that dwel therin, shall mourne: the beastes in the felde, the foules in the ayr, & the fishes in the sea shal dye.

³ yet they saye: they do well, when they do euil. As the prince wyll, so sayeth the iudge: that he maye do him a pleasure agayne. The greate man speaketh what his herte desyreth: & the hearers alowe hym. ⁴ The best of them is but as a thistle, & the most rightuous of them is but as a breer in the hedge. But when the day of thy preachers commeth, that thou shalt be vysyted: then shall they be wasted awaye. ⁵ Let no man beleue hys frende, nor put his confidence in a prynce. Kepe the porte of thy mouthe, from her that lyeth in thy bosome:

³¹ Feare ye not therfore: ye are of more value then many sparowes. ³² Whosoeuer therfore shall acknowlege me before men, hym will I acknowledge also before my father which is in heauen. ³³ But whosoeuer shall deny me before men, hym will I also deny before my father which is in heauen.

³⁸ Whosoeuer therfore shalbe ashamed of me and of my wordes, among this aduouterous and synfull generacion, of hym shall the sonne of man be ashamed when he cometh in the glory of hys father with the holy aungels.

⁵⁴ Iesus answered. Yf I honoure my selfe, myne honoure is nothynge worthe. It is my father, that honoureth me, which you saye is youre God, ⁵⁵ and ye haue not knowen hym: but I knowe hym, And yf I shoulde saye: I knowe hym not, I shoulde be a lyer lyke vnto you. But I knowe hym, and kepe hys saiynge.

³ This is lyfe eternall that they myghte knowe, the that onely very God, and whome thou haste sente Iesus Christ.

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, because it is the power of God vnto saluacion to all that beleue, namely to the Iewe and also to the gentyle.

²⁸ And as it semed not good vnto them to be a knowen of God, euen so God deliuered them vp vnto a leud minde, that they should do those thinges, whiche were not comly,

¹³ Theyr throte is an open sepulchre, with theyr tonges they haue disceyued, the poyson of aspes is vnder their lippes.

⁴ in whome the God of thys worlde hath blynded the myndes of them which beleue not, leste the lyght of the gloryous gospell of Christe which is the ymage of God shoulde shyne vnto them. ⁵ For we preache not oure selues, but Christ Iesus to be the Lorde, and oure selues youre seuauntes for Iesus sake. ⁶ For it is God that commaunded the lighte to shyne out of darknes, whiche hath shyned in oure hertes, for to geue the lyghte of the knoweledge of the glorye of God, in the face of Iesus Christe.

²⁸ and in nothing fearing your aduersaries: whiche is to them a token of perdicion, and to you of saluation, and that of God.

¹³ But the euyll man and disceyuers shal waxe worsse & worsse whyle they deceyue, and are deceyued them selues.

³ Beloued, when I gaue all dylygence to wryte vnto you of the commen saluacyon: it was nedefull for me to wryte vnto you, to exhorte you, that ye should contynuallye labour in the faythe whiche was ones geuen vnto the saynctes.

¹¹ And they ouercame hym by the bloude of the lambe, and by the worde of theyr testimony, and they loued not theyr liues vnto the death.
