⁷ Lyke as a conduyte aboundeth in water, euen so thys cytye aboundeth in wyckednes. Robberye and vnrightuousnesse is heard in her, sorow and woundes are euer there in my sight.

⁹ Destroye their tonges (O Lorde) and deuyde them, for I se vnrighteousnes & stryfe in the cytye. ¹⁰ Thys goeth daye and nyght aboute the walles, mischief and vyce are in the middest of it. ¹¹ Wickednesse is therin, disceate and gyle go not out of her stretes.

²³ Kepe thyne herte wyth all dilygence, for there vpon hangeth lyfe.

²⁰ But the wycked are lyke the raryng sea, that can not reste, whose water fometh with the myre and grauel.

⁸ because I haue now preached longe agaynst malycious Tyranny, & shewed them of destruccion. For the which cause they cast the worde of the Lorde in my teeth, and take me euer to the worst.

¹¹ malicious violence is growne vp, and the vngodly waxen to a stafe. Yet shall there no complaynte be made for them, ner for the trouble that shall come of these thynges.

²³ I wyll make clene ryddaunse, for the land is whole defiled with vnrightuous iudgement of innocent bloud & the citie is full of abhomynacyons.

³ and tell them: Thus sayeth the Lorde God: O thou cyty, that sheddest bloude in the middest of the, that thy tyme may come also: & makest the Idoles to defyle the withall. ⁴ Thou haste made thy selfe gyltye, in the bloud that thou hast shed: & defyled the in the Idoles, whiche thou hast made. Thou hast caused thy dayes to drawe nye, & made the tyme of thy yeares to come. Therfore wyll I make the to be confounded among the Heathen, & to be despysed in all the landes, ⁵ whether they be nye or farre from the: they shal laugh the to scorne, thou that hast gotten the so foule a name, & art full of myschefe. ⁶ Beholde, the rulers of Israel haue brought euery man his power, to shed bloud in the. ⁷ In the haue they dispysed father & mother, in the haue they oppressed the straunger, in the haue they vexed the widdowe and the fatherlesse. ⁸ Thou haste despysed my Sanctuarye, and vnhalowed my Sabboth. ⁹ Murtherers are there in the, that shede bloude, & eate vpon the hylles, and in the they vse vnhappynesse. ¹⁰ In the haue they discouered their fathers shame, in the haue they vexed wemen in their sicknesse. ¹¹ Euery man hath dealte shamefully wyth hys neyghboures wyfe, and abhomynably defiled his doughter in law. In the hath euery man forced his owne syster, euen his fathers doughter: ¹² yea gyftes haue bene receyued in the, to shede bloude. Thou haste taken vsury and encreace, thou haste oppressed thy neyghbours by extorcion, and forgotten me, sayeth the Lorde God.

⁷ for the bloude is yet in it. Vpon a playne drye stone hath she poured it, and not vpon the grounde, that it might be couered with dust:

¹ O wo vnto them, that Imagyn to do harme, & deuyse vngracyousnesse vpon their beddes, to perfourme it in the cleare daye: for there power is agaynst God. ² When they couet to haue lande, they take it by vyolence, they robbe men of their houses. Thus they oppresse a man for his house, & euery man for hys heretage.

⁸ but my people doth the contrary, therfore must I take parte agaynst them: for they take awaye both cote and cloke from the symyle. Ie haue turned youre selues to fyght, ⁹ the wemen of my people haue ye shot out from their good houses, and taken away my excellent gyftes from their chyldren. ¹⁰ Vp, get you hence, for here shall ye haue no rest. Because of their Idolatrye they are corrupte, & shall myserably perishe.

¹ Heare, O ye heades of the house of Iacob, & peleders of the house of Israel: Shulde not ye know what were lawfull and ryght? ² But ye hate the good, and loue the euell: ye plucke of mennes skynnes, and the flesh from their bones: ³ ye eate the flesh of my people, and slay of their skynne: ye breake their bones, ye choppe them in peces as it were in to a cauldron, and as flesh into a pot.

⁹ O heare this ye rulers of the house of Iacob, and ye iudges of the house of Israell: ye that abhorre the thynge that is laufull, and wrayst asyde the thynge that is streyght. ¹⁰ Ye that buylde vp Syon wyth bloude, and Ierusalem wyth doynge wronge. ¹¹ O ye iudges, ye geue sentence for gyftes: O ye preastes, ye teach for lucre: O ye Prophetes, ye prophecy for monye. Yet wyll they be taken as those that holde vpon God, and saye: Is not the Lorde amonge vs? Tushe, there can no mysfortune happen vs. ¹² Therfore shall Syon (for youre sakes) be plowed lyke a felde: Ierusalem shalbe come an heape of stones, and the hyll of the temple shalbe turned to an hye wodde.

² There is not a godlye man vpon earth, there is not one ryghtuous amonge men. They laboure al to shed bloud, and euery man hunteth his brother to death: ³ yet they saye: they do well, when they do euil. As the prince wyll, so sayeth the iudge: that he maye do him a pleasure agayne. The greate man speaketh what his herte desyreth: & the hearers alowe hym.

¹⁰ Out of one mouth proceadeth blessynge and curssynge. My brethren these thynges ought not so to be. ¹¹ Doth a fountayne sende forth at one place swete water & bitter also? ¹² Can the fygge tree, my Brethren, beare olyue beryes: other a vyne beare fygges?
