³ at the noyse & stampynge of theyr stronge barbed horses, at the shakynge of theyr charettes and at the romblynge of the wheles. The fathers shall not loke to theyr chyldren, so feable and wery shall theyr handes be:

⁵⁴ so that it shal greue the man that is tender and exceadynge delycate amonge you, to loke on hys brother and vpon his wyfe that lyeth in hys bosome, & on the remnaunte of his chyldren which he hath yet lefte, ⁵⁵ for feare of geuynge vnto any of them of the flesh of his children, which he eateth, because he hath noughte lefte him in that straytenes and seyge wherwyth thyne enemyes shall besyege the in all thy cyties.

²² Then they malled the horsses legges, that theyr myghtye coursers lefte praunsyng.

¹⁹ Haste thou geuen the horse his strength, or learned him to bowe doune his necke wt feare: ²⁰ that he letteth him selfe be dryuen forthe lyke a greshopper, where as the stoute neyenge that he maketh, is fearfull? ²¹ he breaketh the grounde with the hoffes of hys fete chearfullye in hys strength, & runneth to mete the harueste men. ²² He layeth a syde all feare, hys stomack is not abated, neyther starteth he a backe for anye swerde. ²³ Thoughe the quyuers rattle vpon him though the speare & shyld glystre: ²⁴ yet rusheth he in fearsely, and beateth vpon the grounde, He feareth not the noyse of the trompettes, ²⁵ but as sone as he heareth the shawmes blow, thushe (sayth he) for he smelleth the battell a farre of, the noyse, the Captaynes and the shoutynge.

¹⁶ Then shall the noyse of his horses be hearde from Dan, the whole lande shall be afrayed at the neyenge of his stronge horses: for they shal go in, & deuoute the lande, with al that is in it: the cities, and those that dwel therin.

⁹ Get you to horse backe, rol forth the Charrettes, come forth ye worthies: ye Morians, ye Libeans with your bucklers ye Lideans with youre bowes:

³ Gymel. The Lamyes geue their yonge ones suck with bare brestes: but the daughter of my people is cruell, and dwelleth in the wyldernesse: lyke the Eltriches. ⁴ Daleth. The tonges of the suckyng chyldren, cleue to the rofe of their mouthes for very thyrste. The yonge chyldren aske bred, but there is noman, that geueth it them.

¹⁰ The dust of his horses shall couer the: they shalbe so many: thy walles shall shake at the noyse of the horse men, charettes and wheles: when he cometh to thy portes, as men do into an open cyty. ¹¹ With the hostes of his horse fete, shall he treade doune all thy stretes. He shall sleye thy people with the swerde, & breake doune the pylers of thy strengthe.

⁴ The charettes rolle vpon the stretes, & welter in the hye wayes. They are to loke vpon lyke cressettes of fyre, & go swyftly, as the lyghtenynge.

² There a man may heare scourgynge, russhyng, the noyse of the weeles, the cryenge of the horses, & the rollynge of the charettes. ³ There the horsmen get vp with naked swerdes, & glystering speares. There lyeth a multytude slayn, & a great heape of deade bodyes. There is no ende of dead coarses, yea, men fall vpon theyr bodyes:
