¹⁶ And therfore all they that deuoure the, shalbe deuoured, and all thyne enemyes shall be led into captiuite. All they that make the wast, shalbe wasted them selues: and al those that robbe the, wyl I make also to be robbed.

²² But & if thou shalt herken vnto hys voyce & kepe all that I shal tel the, then I wilbe an enemy vnto thyne enemies and an aduersary vnto thine aduersaries.

⁵ Let them be confounded & turned backewarde, as many as haue euell will at Syon.

⁸ O daughter of Babilon, thou shalt come to mysery thyselfe: yea, happye shall he be, that rewardeth the as thou hast serued vs. ⁹ Blessed shall he be, that taketh thy chyldren, and throweth them agaynst the stones.

² They shall take the people, and cary them home with them. And the house of Israell shall haue them in possession for seruauntes and maydens in the lande of the Lorde. They shall take those presonners, whose captyues they had bene afore, and rule those that had oppressed them.

¹ Therfore wo be vnto the (O robber) shalte not thou be robbed also? and vnto the that layeste wayte, as who say: there shuld no waite be layde for the: Wo vnto the whiche doest hurte, euen so shalte thou be hurte also. And as thou layest wayte, so shall waite be layde for the also.

¹¹ Behold, all they that resyst the, shall come to confusyon and shame: & thine aduersaries shalbe destroyed and brought to naught. ¹² So that who so seketh after them, shall not fynde them. Thy destroyers shall perysh and so shall they that vndertake to make batell agaynst the:

⁵ Syt styll, holde thy tunge, & get the in to some darcke corner, O daughter Chaldea, for thou shalt nomore be called lady of kyngdomes. ⁶ I was so wroth with my people, that I punished myne enheritaunce, & gaue them into thy power. Neuertheles, thou shewedeste them no mercy, but euen the very aged men of them, didest thou oppresse ryght sore wyth thy yock,

¹⁵ Beholde, the aleaunt that was farre from the, shal dwel with the: & he that was sometyme a straunger vnto the. shalbe ioyned with the:

¹⁷ but al the weapens that are made agaynste the, shal not prospere. And as for all tunges, that shall resiste the in iudgement, thou shalte ouercome them, and condempne them. This is the herytage of the Lordes seruauntes, and the ryghtuousnes that they shal haue of me, sayeth the Lorde.

³ Thou Israel wast halowed vnto the Lorde, and so was his fyrst frutes. Al they that deuoured Israel, offended: mysfortune fell vpon them, sayeth the Lorde.

²⁵ Poure oute thyne indygnacion rather vpon the Gentyles, that knowe the not, and vpon the people that call not on thy name: And that because they haue consumed, deuoured and destroyed Iacob, and haue roted out hys glorye.

¹⁴ Thus sayeth the Lorde vpon all myne euell negbours, that laye hande on myne heretage, whiche I haue geuen my people of Israel: Beholde, I will plucke them (namely Israel) out of their lande, & put out the house of Iuda from amonge them.

¹² When the .lxx. yeares eare expyred, I wyll vyset also the wickednesse of the kynge of Babylon & hys people sayeth the Lorde: ye and the land of the Caldees, and wyll make it a perpetuall wyldernes,

²⁶ all kynges towarde the North, whether they be farre or nye, euery one with his neyghboures: Ye and all the kyngdomes that are vpon the whole earth. The kynge of Sezach, sayde he, shal drincke with them also. ²⁷ And saye thou vnto them: This is the commaundement of the Lorde of hostes the God of Israel: Drincke and be droncken, spewe & fall, that ye neuer ryse: and that thorow the swearde, whyche I wyll sende amonge you. ²⁸ But yf they wyl not receyue the cuppe of thy hande, and drincke it, then tell them: Thus doeth the Lord of Hostes threaten you: drinck it ye shal, and that shortly. ²⁹ For lo, I begynne to plage the cyty, that my name is geuen vnto: thynke ye then, that I will leaue you vnpunyshed? Ye shal not go quyte. For why, I call for a swearde vpon al the inhabitours of the earth, sayeth the Lord of Hostes.

⁷ All they that came vpon them, haue deuoured them: & theyr enemyes sayde: We haue made no faute agaynst them for they haue displeased the Lorde, yea euen the Lorde whiche is the bewtie of theyr ryghtuousnes, & that defended theyr fathers. ⁸ Yet shall ye fle from Babilon, & depart out of the lande of the Caldees, and ye shall be as the rammes that go before the flocke. ⁹ For lo, I wyll wake vp an hoost of people from the northren lande, and brynge them vpon Babylon: these shall laye sege to it, and winne it: Theyr arowes shall not mysse, like as a connyng archer shuteth not wronge. ¹⁰ And the Caldees shalbe spoyled, and all they that spoyle them, shalbe satisfyed, sayeth the Lorde: ¹¹ because ye were so chearfull and glad, to treade doune myne heritage, and fulfylled youre pleasures, as the calues in the grasse: and triumphed ouer them lyke the bulles, when ye had gotten the victory.

¹⁷ Israel is a scatred flocke, the Lyons haue dispersed them. Fyrste the kynge of the Assyryans deuoured them, last of all thys Nabuchodonosor Kyng of Babylon hath brosed all theyr bones. ¹⁸ Therfore thus saith the Lorde of hostes the God of Israell: Beholde, I wyll vyset the Kynge of Babylon and hys kyngdome, as I haue vysited the kynge of the Assyryans:

²⁸ Me thinke I heare all readye a crye, of them that be fled & escaped oute of the lande of Babylon, which shewe in Syon the vengeaunce of the Lorde oure God the vengeaunce of his temple, yea a voyce of them, that crye against Babylon:

³³ Thus sayth the Lorde of hostes: The chyldren of Israell & Iuda suffre violence together. Al they that haue them in captyuyte, kepe them faste, and wyll not let them go: ³⁴ but theyr auenger & redemer is myghtye, whose name is the Lorde of hostes: he shal maintayne theyr cause, he shall make the lande shake, and iudge them that dwell therein, one wyth another. ³⁵ The swearde shall come vpon the Caldees, sayeth the Lorde, vpon them that dwell in Babylon, vpon their princes, & vpon theyr wise men: ³⁶ The swearde vpon theyr soth sayers, as for those (they shal become fooles.) The swearde vpon they: worthies, so that they shall stande in feare: ³⁷ The swearde vpon theyr horsmen and charettes, and vpon al the comon people that dwell vnder them: so that they shall all become lyke wemen: The swearde vpon their treasure, so that it shall be stolen awaye. ³⁸ The swearde vpon theyr waters, so that they shalbe dryed vp. For the lande worshippeth ymages, & delyteth in straunge wondrefull thynges. ³⁹ Therfore shall wylde beastes, Apes, and Estriches dwell therin: for there shall neuer man dwell there, neyther shal any man haue his habitacion there for euermore. ⁴⁰ Lyke as God destroyed Sodome and Gomorre, with the cities that laye there aboute, sayeth the Lord: So shall no man dwell there also, nether shall any man haue there hys habitacyon.

³⁴ Nabuchodonosor the kynge of Babylon hath deuoured & destroyed me, he hath made me an emptye vessell. He swalowed me vp lyke a dragon, and filled his bely with my delycates: he hath cast me oute, ³⁵ he hath taken my substaunce awaye and the thynge that was lefte me, hath he caryed vnto Babylon, sayeth the doughter that dwelleth in Syon: yea and my bloude also vnto the Caldees, sayeth Ierusalem. ³⁶ Therfore thus sayth the Lorde: Beholde, I wyll defende thy cause, and auenge the: I wil dryncke vp her sea, and drye vp her water springes. ³⁷ Babilon shalt become an heape of stones a dwellinge place for dragons, a fearfulnes and wondrynge, because no man dwelleth there.

²¹ Sin. They heare my mournynge, but there is none that wyll comforte me. All myne enemyes haue hearde of my trouble, & are glad therof, because thou hast done it. But thou shalt brynge forth the tyme, when they also shalbe lyke vnto me.

²¹ Sin. And thou (O daughter Edom) that dwellest in the lande of Huz, be glad and reioyce: for the cuppe shall come vnto the also, which whan thou soppest of thou shalt be droncken. ²² Thau. Thy sinne is well punished (O thou daughter Sion) he shall not suffre the to be caryed awaye eny more. But thy wyckednesse (O daughter Edom) shall he vyset, and for thy synnes sake, he shall lede the in to captiuite.

³ & say vnto the Ammonites: hear the worde of the Lorde God. Thus sayeth the Lorde God: For so muche as thou speakest ouer my Sanctuarye. A ha, I trow it be now suspended: and ouer the lande of Israel, I trowe it be nowe desolate: ye and ouer the house of Iuda, I trow they be now led away presoners: ⁴ Beholde, I will deliuer the to the people of the east, that they maye haue the in possession, these shal set their castels and houses in the. They shall eate thy frute, & drincke vp thy milcke. ⁵ As for Rabath. I will make of it a stall for camels, and of Ammon a shepefolde: & ye shal knowe, that I am the Lord. ⁶ For thus sayeth the lord God: In so much as thou hast clapped with thine handes, and stamped with thy fete, yea reioysed in thyne herte ouer the lande of Israell with despyte: ⁷ beholde, I will stretche out myne hand ouer the also, and delyuer the, to be spoyled of the Heathen, and rote the out from amonge the people, and cause the to be destroyed out of al landes: yea, I will make the be layed waste, that thou mayest know, that I am the Lorde.

² Thou sonne of man, because that Tyre hathe spoken vpon Ierusalem: A ha, now I trow the portes of the people be broken, & she turned vnto me, for I haue destroied my bely ful: ³ yea therfore saieth the lord God. Beholde O Tire I wil vpon the, I wil bring a great multitude of people agaynst the, lyke as when the sea ariseth with his waues: ⁴ These shal breake the walles of Tire, and cast doune her toures. I wil scrape the ground from her, & make her a bare stone: ⁵ yea as the dryinge place, where the fyshers hange vp their nettes by the sea syde. Euen I haue spoken it, sayeth the Lorde God. The gentyles shal spoile her: ⁶ her doughters vpon the felde shall peryshe with the swerde, that they may knowe, how that I am the Lorde. ⁷ For thus sayeth the Lord God: Beholde, I will bringe hither Nabuchodonozor (which is the Kynge of Babylon, and a kinge of kinges) from the North vpon Tire, with horses charettes, horsmen, and with a greate multytude of people. ⁸ Thy doughters that are in the lande, shall he slaye with the swearde: but agaynst the, he shal make bulworckes & graue vp diches aboute the, & lyft vp his shylde againste the. ⁹ His slynges and batelrammes shall he prepare for thy walles, and with his weapens breake doune thy towres. ¹⁰ The dust of his horses shall couer the: they shalbe so many: thy walles shall shake at the noyse of the horse men, charettes and wheles: when he cometh to thy portes, as men do into an open cyty. ¹¹ With the hostes of his horse fete, shall he treade doune all thy stretes. He shall sleye thy people with the swerde, & breake doune the pylers of thy strengthe. ¹² They shal wast awaye thy riches, and spoile thy marchaundyse. Thy walles shall they breake doune, and destroy thy houses of pleasure. Thy stones, thy timbre and foundacions shal they cast in the water. ¹³ Thus will I bring the melody of thy songes, and the voyce of thy minstrelsy to an ende, so that they shall no more be hearde. ¹⁴ I will make a bare stone of the, yea a dryinge places for nettes, & shalt neuer be builded agayne: For euen I the lord haue spoken it, sayeth the Lorde God: ¹⁵ thus hath the Lord God spoken concerning Tire. The Iles shalbe moued at the noyse of thy fall, & at the crye of the slayne, that shall be murthered in the. ¹⁶ Al kinges of the sea shall come doun from their seates regal, they shal laye awaye their roabes, & put of their costly clothinge. Yea with tremblinge shal they be clothed, they shall syt vpon the ground: they shalbe afrayed at thy soden fall, and be abashed at the. ¹⁷ They shall mourne for the, and saye vnto the: O thou noble city, that hast bene so greatly occupyed of olde, thou that haste bene the strongest vpon the sea with thine inhabitours of whom al men stode in feare: How art thou nowe so vtterlye destroyed? ¹⁸ Nowe at the tyme of thy fal the inhabytoures of the Iles, yea and the Iles them selues, shall stande in feare at thyne ende. ¹⁹ For thus sayeth the Lord God: when I make the a desolate cytye (as other cities be, that no man dwell in) and when I brynge the depe vpon the, that greate waters maye couer the: ²⁰ Then wyl I cast the doune vnto them, that descende into the pytte: vnto a people that hath bene longe deade, and set the in a lande that is beneth, lyke the olde wildernesse, with them whiche go doune to their graues, so that no man shall dwell more in the. And I wyll make the to be no more in honoure in the lande of the lyuynge. ²¹ I wil make an ende of the, and thou shalt be gone. Thoughe thou be sought for, yet shalte thou not be founde for euermore, sayeth the Lorde God.

⁶ that al thei whiche dwell in Egypte, maye knowe, that I am the Lorde: because thou haste bene a staffe of rede to the house of Israel.

⁵ For so much as thou beareste an olde enemyte agaynst the chyldren of Israel, and with a cruell hande haste made them afrayed, what tyme as they were troubled and punyshed for theyr synne:

⁸ Youre sonnes & your doughters wyll I sell thorowe the handes of the chyldren of Iuda, & so they shal geue them forth to sel, vnto them of Saba, a people of a farre countre, for the Lorde hym selfe hath sayde it.

¹¹ Now also are there manye people gathered together agaynst the, sayinge: what, Sion is cursed, we shal se oure lust vpon her.

¹⁰ She that is myne enemy shall loke vpon it, & be confounded, which now sayth. Where is thy Lorde God? Myne eyes shall beholde her, when she shalbe troden doune, as the clay in the stretes.

⁸ when the floude renneth ouer, and destroyeth the place, and when the darcknesse foloweth styll vpon his enemyes.

¹⁶ Therfore wyth shame shalte thou be fylled, in steade of honoure. Drincke thou also tyll thou slombre wyth al: for the cuppe of the Lordes ryght hande shall compasse the about and shamefull spewyng in steade of thy worshippe.

⁸ I haue heard the despyte of Moab, & the blasphemyes of the chyldren of Ammon, howe they haue shamefullye intreated my people, and magnifyed them selues wythin the borders of theyr lande.

¹⁴ And the aungel that commoned with me, sayde vnto me: Crye thou, and speake: Thus sayeth the Lorde of hostes: I am exceadynge gelous ouer Ierusalem and Syon,

⁸ for thus sayeth the Lorde of hostes: Wyth a gloryous power hath he sent me out to the Heathen, which spoyled you: for who so toucheth you, shal touche the aple of his owne eye.

² Beholde I will make Ierusalem a cuppe of surfet, vnto al the people that are round aboute her: Yea, Iuda him self also shalbe in the sege agaynste Ierusalem.

² for I will gather together al the heathen, to fighte agaynste Ierusalem, so that the city shalbe woune, the houses spoyled, & the wemen defiled. The half of the city shal go away into captiuite, & the residue of the people shal not be caried out of the cyty.

¹⁰ He that leadeth into captiuitie shal go into captiuitie, he that kylleth wt a sweard, must be kylled wyth a sweard. Here is the pacience and the fayth of the sainctes.
