²⁸ I shal answere them: Where are now thy Goddes, that thou hast made the? byd them stande vp, & helpe the in the time of nede? For loke how many cityes thou hast (O Iuda) so many Goddes hast thou also.

³⁷ And it shal be sayd, wher are their Gods and theyr rocke wherin they trusted?

¹⁴ But go, and crye vnto the Goddes which ye haue chosen, and let them saue you in the tyme of youre trybulacyon.

¹³ And Elizeus sayde to the kynge of Israel: what haue I to do with the? Get the to the prophetes of thy father and of thy mother. And the kyng of Israel sayd vnto hym: Oh naye, but hath the lord called these thre kynges to delyuer them into the handes of the Moabites?

³⁰ The men of Babilon made Socoth, Benoth. The men of Cuth made Nergell. They of Hemath made Asima. ³¹ The Euites made Nebahaz, and Tharthak. And the Sepharuaites burnt theyr chyldren in fyre vnto Adramelech and Anamelech, the Goddes of the Sepharuaites.

²⁰ Let them be gathered and come together, lett them drawe nye hyther, that are escaped of the people: Haue they eny vnderstandynge, that set vp the stockes of their Idols, & praie vnto a God, that cannot helpe them?

² They shall syncke downe, and fall together: for they maye not ease them of their burthen, therfore muste they go in to captyuyte.

⁷ Yet muste he be taken on mens shoulders & borne, & set in hys place that he maye stande and not moue. Alas that men shulde crye vnto hym, which geueth no answere: and delyuereth not the man that calleth vpon hym, from hys trouble.

¹³ For as manye cytyes as thou haste, O Iuda, so many Goddes haste thou also: And loke how many stretes there be in the (O Ierusalem) so manye shamefull aulters haue ye set vp, to offre vpon them vnto Baal.

¹ Israel was a goodly vyne, but he hath brought forth vnprofytable frute: yea, the more frute he had, the mo aulters he made: the more good I dyd to their lande, the more frendshyppe shewed they to their Images.
