¹⁹ Haste thou then vtterlye forsaken Iuda? (sayde I) Doest thou so abhorre Syon? Or hast thou so plaged vs, that we can be healed nomore? We loked for peace, and there commeth no good: for the tyme of health, and lo, here is nothynge but trouble:

¹⁹ and therto Iuda kept not the commaundementes of the Lorde theyr God, but walked in the ordinaunces of Israel whiche they had made. ²⁰ Therfore the Lorde caste vp all the seed of Israell, and vexed them and delyuered them into the handes of spoylers, vntyll he had cast them oute of his syght.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God & despised theyr wordes & mysse vsed his prophetes, vntyll the wrath of the Lord so arose agaynst hys people that it was past remeadie.

²⁶ Yet neuerthelesse where as I loked for good, euyl happened vnto me: and where as I wayted for lyghte, there came darkenesse.

⁵⁹ When God hearde thys, he was wroth, and toke sore dyspleasure at Israell.

¹² Why haste thou then broken doune her hedge, that all they whiche go by, plucke of her grapes? ¹³ Then wylde bore out of the wood hath roted it vp, and the beastes of the felde haue deuoured it.

³⁸ But now thou forsakest & abhorrest thine anoynted, and art displeased at hym.

³⁰ Therfore shal they be called naughtye syluer, because the Lorde hath caste them oute.

²⁹ Wherfore cut of thyne hearre, and cast it awaye, take vp a complaynte in the whole lande for the Lorde shal caste awaye, and scatre the people, that he is displeased withall.

¹⁵ We loked for peace, and we fare not the better, we wayted for the tyme of health, and lo, here is nothynge but trouble.

²² for there is no more Tryacle at Galaad, & there is no Physycyen, that can heale the hurte of my people.

⁸ Myne heretage is become vnto me, as a Lyon, in the wod. It cried out vpon me, therfore haue I forsaken it.

¹ Then spake the Lorde vnto me, & sayde: Though Moses and Samuel stode before me, yet haue I no herte to thys people. Dryue them awaye, that they maye go out of my syght.

¹⁸ Shall my heuynes endure for euer? Are my plages then so greate, that they maye neuer be healed? Wilt thou be as a water, that falleth, and can not continue?

¹³ There is no man to medle with thy cause, or to bynde vp thy woundes: there maye no man helpe the.

¹³ Mem. What shall I saye of the, O thou daughter Ierusalem, to whom shall I lycken the? To whom shall I compare the, O thou daughter Sion, to conforte the with all? Thy hurte is lyke a many see, who maye heale the?

¹⁷ Phe. Wherfore yet oure eyes fayle vs, whyle we loke for vayne helpe: seynge we be euer wayting vpon a people, that can do vs no good.

²² for thou hast banyshed vs now long ynough, & hast bene sore dyspleased at vs.

⁸ Thre sheperdes destroyeth I in one moneth, for I might not away wt them, neither had they any delyte in me. ⁹ Then sayd I: I wil fede you no more, the thing that dieth, let it dye: & that wil perishe, let it perishe, & let the remnaunt eate, euery one the fleshe of his neyghboure.

¹ I saye then: hath God cast away hys people? God forbyd. For euen I verelye am an Israelite, of the sede of Abraham, and of the trybe of Beniamin, ² GOD hath not caste awaye hys people whiche he knewe before. Eyther wote ye not what the scripture sayth by the mouth of Helyas, how he maketh intercessyon to God agaynst Israel, saiynge: ³ Lorde they haue killed thy prophetes and dygged downe thyne alters: and I am lefte onelye, and they seke my lyfe? ⁴ But what sayth the aunswere of God to hym agayne? I haue reserued vnto me seuen thousande men whiche haue not bowed the knee to Baal. ⁵ Euen so at thys tyme is there a remnaunte left thorow the election of grace. ⁶ Yf it be of grace, then is it not of workes. For then were grace no more grace. Yf it be of workes, then is it no more grace. For then were deseruynge no lenger deseruynge.

³ When they shal say peace and no daunger, then commeth on them soden destruccion, as the trauaylynge of a woman wyth chyld, and they shal not escape.
