¹⁰ They haue turned them selues to the blasphemyes of theyr forefathers, whiche had no luste to heare my worde. Euen lykewyse haue these also folowed straunge Goddes, and worshypped them. The house of Israell and Iuda haue broken my couenaunt, whiche I made wyth their fathers.

¹⁵ or if ye shal despise myne ordinaunces either if youre Soule refuse my lawes, so that ye wyl not do al my commaundementes, but shal breake myne appoyntmente:

⁷ Remembre & forget not how thou prouokedest the lord thy God in the wildernes: for sence the day that thou camest out of the land of Egipt vntil ye came vnto this place, ye haue rebelled against the Lorde.

¹⁶ And the Lord sayed vnto Moses: beholde, thou must slepe wyth thy fathers, and thys people wyll go a whoring after straunge Goddes of the land whither they go, and wyl forsake me and breake the appoyntment which I haue made with them.

¹² & forsoke the Lorde God of theyr fathers, whiche brought them out of the land of Egypt, and folowed straunge Goddes, euen of the Goddes of the nacyons that were rounde aboute them, and bowed them selues vnto them, and angred the Lorde. ¹³ And so they forsoke the Lorde, and serued Baal and Astharoth.

¹⁷ and yet for al that they wold not harken vnto theyr iudges: But wente a whorynge after straunge Goddes & bowed them selues vnto them, and turned quicklye oute of the waye which theyr fathers walked in obeyinge the commaundementes of the Lord and dyd not so.

¹⁹ yet for all that as sone as the iudge was dead they turned and dyd worsse then theyr fathees in folowing straunge goddes, and in seruynge them, and ceased not from theyr inuencyons nor from theyr malycyouse wayes.

¹¹ it repenteth me that I haue made Saul King. For he is turned from me, & hath not parformed my commaundementes, wherfore Samuel was euyl apayde & cryed vnto the Lord all nyght.

⁷ For the chyldren of Israel had synned agaynst the Lorde theyr God whiche brought them oute of the lande of Egypt, from vnder the hande of Pharao kyng of Egypt, and feared other Goddes. ⁸ And they walked in the ordinaunce of the hethen which the Lorde caste oute before the children of Israel, and in the thynges which the kynges of Israell had made. ⁹ And the chyldren of Israel wrapt them selues in thynges that were not well toward the Lorde their God. And they buylte them hylaulters in al theyr cytyes, bothe in the toures where they kepte watche, and also in the strong tounes. ¹⁰ And they made them Images & groues on euerye hye hyll, & vnder euerye grene tree. ¹¹ And there they sacrifyced in the hylaulters, as dyd the hethen which the Lorde caried awaye at theyr commynge, & wrought weked dedes, to angre the Lord wyth al. ¹² And they serued Idoles, wherof the Lord had said to them: ye shall not do so. ¹³ And the Lorde testifyed to Israel & to Iuda, by all the Prophetes & by al the sears sayinge: Turne from youre wicked wayes & kepe my commaundementes & myne ordinaunces accordynge to all the lawes which I commaunded youre fathers, & as I sente to you by my seruauntes the prophetes. ¹⁴ Notwithstanding they wolde not heare, but hardened their neckes, lyke to the neckes of their fathers that dyd not beleue the Lorde theyr God. ¹⁵ And they refused his ordinaunce & his appoyntemente that he had made wyth theyr fathers, and the wytnesse which he had witnessed to them, and folowed vanitie and became vayne, lyke to the hethen that were rounde aboute them, of whiche the Lorde had charged them, that they shuld not do lyke them. ¹⁶ But they lefte the commaundementes of the Lorde their God, and made them Images of metall, euen .ij. calues: & made groues, and bowed them selues vnto all the host of heauen, & serued Baal, ¹⁷ And they sacrificed their sonnes & their doughters in fyre, & vsed witchcraft & enchauntementes, & were solde to worcke wickednes in the sight of the Lorde for to angre hym. ¹⁸ Wherfore the Lorde was excedyng wrothe with Israel & put them oute of hys sighte, that there was lefte but the trybe of Iuda onelye, ¹⁹ and therto Iuda kept not the commaundementes of the Lorde theyr God, but walked in the ordinaunces of Israel whiche they had made. ²⁰ Therfore the Lorde caste vp all the seed of Israell, and vexed them and delyuered them into the handes of spoylers, vntyll he had cast them oute of his syght.

³⁰ And the kyng went vp in to the house of the Lorde, & all the men of Iuda and the enhabiters of Ierusalem & the Preastes & Leuites and all the people great and smalle: and reade all the wordes of the boke of the couenaunt that was founde in the house of the Lorde. ³¹ And the kynge stode at hys standynge & made a couenaunt before the Lorde, to folowe the Lord and to kepe his commaundementes, his wytnesse and his statutes with al his herte and with all hys soule & to fulfyl the wordes of the appoyntment wrytten in the sayde boke. ³² And he made to come forth all that were founde in Ierusalem and Beniamin, and the enhabyters of Ierusalem promesed to kepe the couenaunt of that God whiche was the God of theyr fathers. ³³ And Iosiah put away all maner of abhominacyons out of all landes that pertayned to the chyldren of Israel, and brought all that were founde in Israel to serue the Lorde theyr God. And they turned not a syde from after the Lorde God of theyr fathers as longe as he lyued.

⁸ And not to be as their forefathers, a froward and ouerthwarte generatyon, a generation that set not their herte a ryghte, and whose spirite was not true towarde God. ⁹ Lyke as the chyldren of Ephraim, which beyng harnessed and carieng bowes, turned them selues backe in tyme of battayl. ¹⁰ They kept not the couenant of god, and wold not walke in his law.

⁵⁷ But turned their backes, and fell awaye lyke their forefathers, startynge asyde like a broken boowe.

⁶ The Lord sayd also vnto me: in the time of Iosiah the kinge, hast thou sene what that shrinkinge Israel hath done? howe she hathe runne vp vpon all the hilles, and amonge all thicke trees, and there playeth the harlot? ⁷ hast thou sene also (when she had done all thys) how I sayde vnto her: that she shoulde turne agayne vnto me, and yet she is not returned? Iuda that vnfaythfull syster of hers also saw this: ⁸ Namely, that after I had well sene the aduoutrye of the shrynkynge harlot Israel. I put her awaye, and gaue her a byl of deuorcement. For al this, her vnfaithfull syster Iuda was not ashamed, but went backe and plaied the whore also. ⁹ Yea and the noise of her whordome that defyled the whole lande. For she hath commytted her aduoutrye with stones and stocke. ¹⁰ Neuerthelesse, her vnfaythfull syster Iuda is not turned vnto me again with ther whole herte, but faynedly, sayeth the Lorde. ¹¹ And the Lorde sayde vnto me. The bacslyder Israel is more ryghteous, then the vnfaythfull Iuda:

³² not after the couenaunte that I made wyth theyr fathers, when I toke them by the hande, and led them oute of the lande of Egypte: whiche couenaunte they brake, wherfore I punyshed them sore, sayeth the Lorde:

⁵⁹ For thus sayeth the Lorde God: I shoulde (by ryght) deale with the, as thou hast done. Thou hast despysed the ooth, and broken the couenaunte.

¹⁸ Moreouer I sayde vnto their sonnes in the wildernesse: walcke not in the statutes of your forfathers kepe not their ordinaunces, and defyle not youre selues with their Idoles, ¹⁹ for I am the Lorde youre God. But walcke in my statutes, kepe my lawes and do them, ²⁰ halowe my Sabbothes: for they are a token betwyxte me and you, that ye may know, howe that I am the Lorde. ²¹ Notwythstandinge, their sonnes rebelled against me also: they walcked not in my statutes, they kepte not my lawes to fulfyll them (whiche he that doeth shall lyue in them) neyther halowed they my Sabboth dayes. Then I made me againe to poure out my indignacion ouer them, and to satisfye my wrath vpon them in the wildernesse.

⁷ seynge that ye haue brought in to my Sanctuary straungers, hauynge vncircumcysed hertes and fleshe, where thorow my Sanctuary is defyled, when ye offre me bred, fat, and bloude. Thus with all youre abhomynacyons ye haue broken my couenaunt,

⁴ O Ephraim, what shal I do vnto the? O Iuda, how shall I entreate the? seynge youre loue is like a morning cloude, and lyke a dew that goeth early awaye.

⁷ But euen like as Adam did, so haue they broken my couenaunt, & set me at naught.

¹⁶ They turne them selues, but not a right, and are becomen as a broken bowe. Their pryntes shal be slaine with the swerde, for the malyce of their tunges, such blasphemies haue they learned in the lande of Egipte.

⁶ whiche starte a backe from the Lord, & neyther seke after the Lorde, nor regarde him.

⁴ Be not ye lyke youre forefathers, vnto whom the Prophetes cryed afore tyme, sayinge: Thus sayeth the Lord God of hostes. Turne you from youre euyll wayes, & from your wicked ymaginacyons. But thei wolde not heare, nor regarde me, sayeth the Lorde.

⁵¹ Ye styfe necked, and of vncyrcumcysed hertes and eares, ye haue al wayes resisted the holye ghoste as your fathers dyd, so do ye. ⁵² Whyche of the prophetes haue not your fathers persecuted? And they haue slayne them, which shewed before of the comminge of the iuste whom ye haue nowe betrayed and mordred.

⁹ a newe testamente: not lyke the testament that I made wyth theyr fathers at that tyme when I toke them by the handes, to leade them oute of the lande of Egypte, for they continued not in my testamente, and I regarded them not sayth the Lorde.
