⁵ Yea sone make ready the table (sayde this voyce) kepe the watch, eate & dryncke. Vp ye Captaynes, take you to youre shild,

² Make some tokens to the hye hilles, call vnto them, hold vp youre hande, that the Princes maye go in at the dore.

¹⁷ For lo, I shall brynge vp the Medes agaynst them, whiche shall not regarde siluer, nor be desyrous of gould. ¹⁸ Then shall young mens bowes be knapped a sunder. The Medes shall haue no pytye vpon wemen with chylde, and their faces shal not spare the chyldren.

¹³ But they to fulfil their lust and wilfulnes, slaughter oxen: they kyll shepe, they eate costly meate, and drincke wyne, let vs eate and drincke, to morow we shall dye. ¹⁴ Neuerthelesse when the Lorde of Hostes hearde of it, he sayde: yea, yf this wyckednes of yours shalbe remytted, ye must dye for it. This hathe the Lorde of Hostes spoken.

¹ Thus sayeth the Lorde vnto Cyrus his anoynted, whom he ledeth by the righthande: that the people maye fal downe before hym: I will lowse the gyrdle of kynges: that they shall open the gates before thy face, & not to shut their dores. ² I wil go before the, & make the croked streyght I shall breake the brasen dores, & burst the yron barres. ³ I shall geue the the hyd treasure & the thinge which is secretly kepte: that thou maiest knowe that I the God of Israel haue called the by thy name:

¹¹ Make sharpe the arowes, and fyll the quyuers: for the Lorde shall rayse vp the sprete of the kynge of the Meedes, which hath already a desyre to destroye Babylon. This shalbe the vengeaunce of the Lordes, and the vengeaunce of hys temple.

²⁷ Set vp a token in the lande: blow the trompettes amonge the Heythen, prouoke the nacyons agaynst her, call the kyngedomes of Ararat, Memni, and Ascanes agaynste her: nombre oute Taphsar agaynst her, bryng as greate a sorte of horses against her, as yf they were greshoppers. ²⁸ Prepare agaynste them the people of the Meedes wyth theyr kynges prynces, and al theyr chefe rulers, yea and the whole lande that is vnder them.

³⁹ In their heate I shall sett drinke before them, & they shalbe droncken for ioye: Then shall they slepe an euerlastinge slepe, and neuer wake, sayeth the Lord

⁵⁷ Yee (sayeth the Lorde) I will make their Princes their wyse men, their chefe rulers & all their worthyes, droncken: so that they shall slepe an euerlastynge slepe, and neuer wake: Thus sayeth the Kynge, whose name is the Lorde of hostes.

¹ Kynge Balthazar made a greate bancket to his thousand Lordes: with all these thousand he made great chere, ² & when he was droncken with wyne, he commaunded to brynge hym the golden and syluer vessels, whiche his father Nabuchodonosor had taken oute of the temple at Ierusalem, that the king and hys lordes with hys quene and concubynes might drincke thereoute. ³ So they broughte the golden vessell, that was taken oute of the temple of the Lordes house at Ierusalem. Then the kynge and hys lordes with his quene & concubynes droncke oute of them. ⁴ They droncke wyne, and praysed theyr Idoles of golde, syluer, copper, yron woodde and stone. ⁵ In the very same houre there apeared fyngers, as it had bene of a mannes hande wrytynge, ryght ouer agaynst the candelstycke vpon the playne wall in the kynges palace, & the kynge sawe the palme of the hande that wrote.

³² That I haue fought wyth beastes at Ephesus, after the maner of men what auauntageth it me, yf the dead rise not againe? Let vs eate and drincke, to morowe we shall dye.
