¹⁶ And they departed from Bethell, & when he was but a feld breath from Ephrath, Rahel began to trauel. And in trauelynge she was in perell. ¹⁷ And as she was in paynes of hyr laboure the mydwyfe sayed vnto hir: feare not, for thou shalt haue thys sonne also. ¹⁸ Then as hyr soule was a departynge, that she must die, she called his name BenOni. But his father called him BenIamyn.

⁷ and her husbande hearde it and helde hys peace there at the same daye he hearde it: Then her vowes and her bondes wherwyth she bounde her soule, shall stande in effecte. ⁸ But and yf her husbande forbade her the same day that the heard it, then hath he made her vowe whyche she had vpon her of none effecte, and that also which she pronounced wt her lyppes wherwyth she bounde her soule, and the lord shal forgeue her.

¹³ All vowes and othes that bynde to humble the soule, maye her husbande stablyshe or breake.

¹⁹ And his doughter in lawe Phynehes wife was wt chylde & nye the byrthe. And when she hearde the tydynges of the taking of the arcke of God, & that her father in law, & her husband were dead, she bowed her self & trauayled, for her paynes came vpon her. ²⁰ And about the time of her death, the wemen that stode about her, said vnto her: feare not, for thou hast borne a sonne. ²⁰ And that this writtinge of the king which shalbe made, be publyshed thorowe oute all his empyre (whiche is greate) that all wyues maye holde their husbandes in honoure, both amonge greate and small.

⁶ Feare came there vpon them, and sorow as vpon a woman in her trauayle.

⁸ they shall stande in feare, carefulnesse and sorowe shal come vpon them, and they shal haue payne, as a woman that trauaileth with childe. One shal euer be abasshed of another, and their faces shall burne lyke the flamme.

³ With this the raynes of my backe were full of payne: Panges came vpon me, as vpon a woman in her trauayle. When I hearde it, I was abasshed, and when I loked vp, I was afrayde.

¹⁷ Lyke as a wyfe wyth chylde (when her trauyle commeth vpon her) is ashamed, cryeth and suffreth the payne: Euen so are we O Lorde, in thy sight. ¹⁸ We are with chyld, we trauyle, & beare, & with the spryte we bring forth healthe, where thorowe the earth is vndestroyed, and the inhabytours of the worlde perysh not.

¹¹ Wyth trauayle and laboure of hys soule, shall he obtayne great ryches. My ryghtuous seruaunte shall wyth hys wysdome iustifye & delyuer the multitude, for he shal beare away theyr synnes,

³¹ For (me thincke) I heare a noyse like as it were of a woman trauaylyng, or one laboringe of her fyrste chylde. Euen the voyce of the doughter of Syon, that casteth oute her armes, and souneth, sayenge: Ah wo is me, how sore vexed and faynte is my herte for them that are slayne?

²⁴ Then shall thys crye be heard: Our armes are feble, heuynes & sorowe is come vpon vs, as vpon a woman trauaylynge with chylde.

²¹ To whom wylt thou make thy mone, when they come vpon the? for thou hast taught them thy selfe, and made them maysters ouer the. Shall not sorowe come vpon the, as on a woman trauaylinge with childe:

²³ that thou dwellest vpon Libanus, & makest thy neste in the Cedre trees. O how greate shall thy mourning be, when thy sorowes come vpon the, as a woman trauelynge with chylde?

²⁴ Damascus shalbe sore afrayed, and shall fle, tremblynge shall come vpon her. Sorowe and payne shall ouertake her as a woman trauaylynge of chylde.

⁹ Why then art thou now so heuy? is there no Kynge in the? are they councelers awaye that thou art so payned, as a woman in her trauayle? ¹⁰ And now (O thou daughter Sion) be sory, let it greue the as a wyfe laborynge wyth chyld: for now must thou gett the out of the cytie, & dwell vpon the playne felde: Yee vnto Babylon shalt thou go, there shalt thou be delyuered, and there the Lorde shall lowse the from the hande of thyne enemyes.

²¹ A woman when she trauayleth, hathe sorowe, because her houre is come: but assone as she is deliuered of the child she remembreth no more the anguish, for ioye that a man is borne into the worlde.

⁴ The wyfe hath not power ouer her owne bodie, but the husbande. And lykewyse the man hath not power ouer his owne bodye, but the wyfe.

³ I woulde you knewe that Christ is the heade of euery man. And the man is the womans heade. And God is Christes heade.

³⁴ Let your wyues kepe silence in the congregations. For it is not permitted vnto them to speake: but let them be vnder obedience, as sayeth the lawe.

²² Women submitte youre selues vnto your owne husbandes, as vnto the Lorde. ²³ For the husbande is the wyues head, euen as Christe is the heade of the congregation, and the same is the sauiour of the body. ²⁴ Therfore as the congregation is in subieccion to Christe, lykewyse let the wyues be in subieccion to theyr husbandes in all thynges.

¹⁸ Wyues submitte youre selues vnto youre owne husbandes, as it is comly in the Lorde.

³ When they shal say peace and no daunger, then commeth on them soden destruccion, as the trauaylynge of a woman wyth chyld, and they shal not escape.

¹¹ Let the woman learne in silence with all subieccyon. ¹² I suffer not a woman to teache, neyther to haue authoritie ouer a man: but for to be in silence.

¹⁵ Notwythstandyng thorow bearyng of chyldren they shalbe saued, so they continue in faythe, loue & holynes with discrecion.

⁵ to be dyscret, chast, huswyfly, good & obedyent vnto theyr owne husbandes, that the word of God be not euyl spoken of.

¹ Lykewyse let the wyues be in subiectyon to theyr husbandes, that euen they which beleue not the worde, maye wythoute the worde be wonne by the conuersation of the wiues: ² whyle they beholde your pure conuersacion coupled wyth feare. ³ Whose apparell shall not be outewarde wyth broyeded heare, and hangynge on of golde, other in puttynge on of gorgyous apparell: ⁴ but let the hyd man of the harte be vncorrupte with a meke and a quyete spyryte, whiche spyryte is before God a thynge muche set by. ⁵ For after thys maner in the olde tyme dyd the holye women whiche trusted in God, tyer them selues, and were obedyente to theyr husbandes ⁶ euen as Sara obeyed Abraham, and called hym Lorde: whose doughters ye are as longe as ye do well, and be not afrayde of euerye shadowe.
