¹⁹ And he called the name of the place Bethell, for in dede the name of the city was called Lus

⁸ Then departed he thence vnto a mountayne that lyeth on the east syde of Bethell & pitched hys tente: Bethel beynge on the west syde, and Ay on the east: and he builded there an aulter vnto the Lord, & called on the name of the Lorde.

¹ And God sayd vnto Iacob, aryse & get the vp to Bethel, and dwell there. And make ther an aultare vnto God that appered vnto the when thou fleddest from Esau thy brother.

³ & sayd vnto Ioseph: God almyghtie apeared vnto me at Lus in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

²² And in lyke maner the house of Ioseph went vp to Bethell and the Lorde wyth them ²³ and the house of Ioseph serched out Bethell which before tyme was called Lus. ²⁴ And the spyes sawe a man come out of the cytye and they sayde vnto hym: shew vs the waye into the cytye. And we wyl shewe the mercy. ²⁵ And he shewed them the waye into the cytye, and they smote it with the edge of the swerde, but let the man and all hys houshold go free, ²⁶ And the man wente into the lande of the Hethites, and buylt a cytye and called the name thereof Lus whiche is the name thereof vnto thys daye.

²⁹ And he put the one in Bethel, and the other in Dan.

¹⁵ Though thou Israel art disposed to play the harlot, yet shouldest not thou haue offended, O Iuda: thou shouldest not haue runne to Galgala, nor haue gone vp to Bethauen, nor haue sworne, the Lord lyueth.

⁴ He stroue with the Aungel, and gat the victorye, so that he praid and desyred hym. He founde him at Bethel, & there he talked with vs. ⁵ Yet the Lorde God of Hostes, euen the Lorde hym selfe remembred him.
