And he sayde: in the tent. ¹⁰ And he sayde: I wyll come agayne vnto the as sone as the frute can lyue. And loo: Sara thy wife shall haue a sonne. The crye of Sodome and Gomorra is great, and their synne is excedynge greuous. ²¹ I wyll go doune and sea whether they haue done all to gether acordynge to that crye which is come vnto me or not, that I may knowe. ²² And the men departed thence & went to Sodome ward. But Abraham stode yet before the Lorde, ²³ & drewe nere and sayde. And he sayd: I wyll not destroye them for twenties sake. ³² And he sayde: O let not my Lorde be angrye, that I speake yet, but euen once more oulye. What yf ten be found there? And he sayde: I wyll not destroy them for .x. sake. ³³ And the Lorde went hys waye as soone as he had left commimyng wyth Abraham. And Abraham returned vnto hys place.

⁸ Behold I haue two doughters whych haue knowne no man, them wyll I brynge out vnto you: do wyth them as it semeth you good: Onlye vnto these men do nothyng, for therfore cam thei vnder the shadowe of my rose.

³³ Then went Laban into Iacobs tente, & into Leas tente, & into .ii. maddens tentes: but founde them not. Then went he out of Leas tent, & entred into Rahels tente.

³⁵ Then sayd she to hir father, my Lorde, be not angrye that I can not ryse vp before the, for the disease of women is come vpon me. So searched he but found them not.

And he sayd they are the children which god hath geuen thy seruaunt ⁶ Then came the maydens forthe, & dyd theyr obeysaunce. ⁷ Lea also & hir chyldren came and dyd theyr obeysaunce. And laste of all came Ioseph & Rahel and dyd theyr obeysaunce.

⁹ & said: If I haue found grace in thy sight, O Lorde, then let my Lorde go wyth vs (for it is a stubburne people) & haue mercy vpon our wickednes & our sinne, and let vs be thyne enheritaunce. ¹⁰ And he sayd: behold, I make an appoyntment before all thys people, that I wyl doo maruails: such as haue not bene done in all the world, neither among any nation. And all the people among whych thou arte, shall se the worckes of the Lord: for it is a terrible thynge that I wyll do wyth the:

And he shal begynne to delyuer Israel out of the handes of the Phylystynes. ⁶ Then the wyfe wente and tolde her husbande saying: a man of God came vnto me, and the fashyon of him was lyke the fashyon of an Angel of God, exceading fearful: But I asked him not whence he was, neyther told he me his name. ⁷ And he sayd vnto me: beholde thou shalt be wyth chylde and beare a sonne, and now dryncke no wyne nor stronge drincke, neyther any vncleane thinge: for the lad shalbe an abstayner to God euen from hys byrth to the daye of his death. ⁸ Then Manoah made intercession to the Lorde, and sayde: I praye the my Lorde let the man of God, which thou sendest come ones more vnto vs and teache vs, what we shal do vnto the lad when he is borne. ⁹ And God heard the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came agayne vnto the wyfe, as she sat in the feldes: But Manoah her husbande was not wyth her. ¹⁰ Then the wyfe made haste and ranne and shewed her husbande and sayde to hym: Beholde the man apeared vnto me that came the other daye vnto me. ¹¹ And Manoah arose and wente after hys wyfe, and came to the man and sayde vnto him: art thou the man that spakeste vnto my wyfe? And he sayd, ye.

⁵ The fourth daye they arose erlye in the mornynge, and the man stode vp to departe. But the damoselles father sayde vnto hys sonne in lawe, comfort thyne herte with a morsel of bread, and then go youre waye.

¹⁰ Then she fell on her face, and bowed her selfe to the grounde and sayde vnto him: howe is it that I haue founde grace in thyne eyes, to know me, seyng: I am an alyaunt.

³⁰ Wherfore the Lorde God of Israel sayth: I sayde that thyne house and the house of thy father shulde haue walked before me for euer. But now the Lorde sayth: that be farre from me: for them that worshyppe me, I wyll worshyp, & they that despyse me, shalbe despised. ³¹ Behold the dayes wyl come that I wil cut of thyne arme and the arme of thy fathers house, that there shall not be an elder in thyne house.

⁶ Then sayd Ionathas to the young man that bare hys harnesse: come & let vs go ouer vnto the standynge of these vncyrcumcysed, paraduenture the Lorde wyl worke with vs: for the Lorde is free to saue with manye or wyth few.

⁴¹ And she arose and bowed her selfe on her face to the earth and sayd: Beholde thy handmaid to be a seruaunt

¹⁷ Then spake Dauid vnto the Lorde, when he sawe the Aungel that smote the people, and sayde: lo, it is I that haue synned, and I that haue done wickedly. But these shepe what haue they done? let I praye the thyne hande be on me, and on my fathers house.

³² And they gyrded sacke clothe aboute theyr loynes, and put ropes about their heades, and went oute to the kynge of Israel, and sayde: thy seruaunt Benhadad sayth: I pray the, let me lyue. And he sayde: is he yet alyue? what he is my brother. ³³ And they toke that word for good lucke and hastely caught it out of hys mouth and sayde? ye thy brother Benhadad. Then he sayde: go and brynge hym. And Benhadad came out to hym, and the other toke him vp into the charet.

⁹ And thou Salomon my sonne: knowe God thy father, and serue hym with a pure hert, and lust of soule. For the Lorde searcheth all hertes, and vnderstandeth all the Imaginacyons of thoughtes. If thou shalte seke hym, he wylbe founde of the: But & yf thou forsake hym, he wyll caste the of for euer.

⁷ And the same night God appeared vnto Salomon and sayde to hym: aske, what I shall geue the.

⁷ Art not thou oure God whiche diddest cast oute the enhabyters of this lande before thy people Israel, & gauest it to the seade of Abraham thy louer for euer?

⁶ and sayde. My God I am ashamed, and darre not lyfte vp myne eyes vnto the my God: for our wyckednesses are growne ouer our heade, & oure trespaces are waxen greate vnto the heauen.

⁴⁴ At the same tyme were there men appoynted ouer the treasure chestes (wherein were the heaueofferynges, the fyrste lynges and the tythes) that they shulde gather them oute of the feldes aboute the cytyes, to destrybute them vnto the pristes and Leuytes accordynge to the lawe: for Iuda was glad of the priestes, and Leuytes, that they stode and wayted

¹¹ all the kynges seruauntes, and the people in the landes of the king know that whosoeuer commeth within the courte vnto the king, whether it be man or woman, which is not called, the commaundement is that the same shall dye immediatly, excepte the kinge holde oute the goulden scepter vnto him, that he maye lyue. And who knoweth wheter thou art come to the kyngedome, for this tymes sake? ¹⁵ Esther bad geue Mardocheus this answere: ¹⁶ Go thou thy waye then, and gather together all the Iewes that are founde at Susan, and fast ye for me, that ye eat not & drinke not in thre dayes, nether day nor nyght. ⁵ So when they had passed ouer the tyme of their banckettynge rounde aboute, Iob sent for them, and clensed them agayne, and gat vp early, & offered for euery one a brentofferynge. For Iob thought thus: peraduenture my sonnes haue done some offence, and haue bene vnthankfull to God in their hertes. And thus dyd Iob euery daye.

¹⁰ But Iob sayde vnto her: Thou speakest lyke a folysh woman. Seynge we haue receyued prosperite at the hand of God, wherfore shuld we not be content with aduersyte also? In all these thynges, dyd not Iob synne with his lyppes.

¹⁹ How moche moare in them that dwell in houses of claye whose foundacion is but earth, which shalbe consumed by the Moth.

³ Doth God peruerte the thynge that is laufull? Or doth the Almyghtye destroye the thynge that is ryght?

²⁰ Beholde, God wyll not cast awaye a vertuous man, nether wyl he helpe the vngodly.

²² This one thyng wyll I saye: He destroyeth both the ryghtuous & vngodly. ²³ And though he slaye sodenly wyth the scourge, yet laugheth he at the punyshment of the innocent.

³ O that I might se him, and fynde hym. O that I myght come before his seat, ⁴ to pleat my cause before him, & to fill my mouth wt argumentes.

¹⁹ I am euen as it were claie, & am become like asshes and dust.

²³ Nowe yf there be a messenger (one amonge a thousande) sent for to speake vnto man, and to shewe hym the ryght waye:

Hym wyll I accepte, & not deale with you after youre folishnesse: in that ye haue not spoken the thynge whiche is right, like as my seruaunt Iob hath done.

⁶ For the Lorde aloweth the waye of the righteous, but the waye of the vngodly shal peryshe.

⁴ Oh what is man, that thou art so myndfull of hym? either the sonne of man that thou visitest hym?

¹⁴ The secrete of the Lorde is amonge them that feare him, and he sheweth them hys couenaunt.

¹⁵ For the eyes of the Lorde are ouer the righteous, and his eares are open vnto theyr prayers.

²¹ Should not God fynde it out? for he knoweth the very secretes of the herte.

¹¹ So that men shall saye, verelye there is a rewarde for the righteous: doutles, there is a God that iudgeth the earth.

¹⁷ Hys name shal endure for euer, his name shall remayne vnder the sunne amonge the posterites, which shalbe blessed thorow him and all the Heathen shall prayse hym.

²⁸ But it is good for me, to holde me fast by God, to put my trust in the Lorde God, and to speake of all thy workes.

² I wyll open my mouth in parables, and speake of thynges of olde. ³ Whych we haue herde and knowne, and such as our fathers haue told vs. ⁴ That we shoulde not hyde them from the chyldren of the generations to come: but to shewe the honoure of the Lorde, hys myghte and wonderfull worckes that he hath done. ⁵ He made a couenaunte wyth Iacob, and gaue Israel a lawe, whiche he commaunded oure forefathers to teache their chyldren. ⁶ That their posterytye myghte knowe it, and the chyldren whych were yet vnborne. To thintent that when they came vp they myghte shewe their chyldren the same. ⁷ That they also myghte put their truste in God, & not to forget what he had done, but to kepe his commaundementes, ⁸ And not to be as their forefathers, a froward and ouerthwarte generatyon, a generation that set not their herte a ryghte, and whose spirite was not true towarde God. ⁹ Lyke as the chyldren of Ephraim, which beyng harnessed and carieng bowes, turned them selues backe in tyme of battayl.

⁵ For thou Lorde arte good and gracyous, and of greate mercye vnto all them that call vpon the.

⁷ God is greatly to be feared in the councel of the saintes and to be had in reuerence of al them that are aboute hym.

⁸ Thou settest our misdedes before the, and our secrete sinnes in the light of thy countenaunce.

³ Lorde what is man, that thou hast suche respect vnto hym? Or the sonne of man, that thou so regardest hym?

⁸ The Lorde aborreth the sacryfyce of the vngodlye, but the prayer of the rightuous is acceptable vnto hym.

⁶ If thou teachest a child in his youth what waye he shuld go, he shal not leaue it when he is old

¹³ He that hydeth hys synnes, shall not prospere: but who so knowledgeth them and forsaketh them shal haue mercy.

¹⁵ These .ij. things also haue I considered in the tyme of vanytye: that the iust man perisheth for hys ryghtuousnes sake, and the vngodly lyued in hys wickednesse.

¹² But thoughe an euell persone offende an hundred tymes, and haue a longe life: yet am I sure, that it shall go well wyth them that feare God, because they haue hym before their eyes. ¹³ Againe, as for the vngodly, it shal not be well wyth hym, neyther shall he prolonge his dayes: but euen as a shaddowe, so shal he be that feareth not God.

⁷ Or dust be turned agayn vnto earth from whence it came, and or the sprete returne vnto God, whyche gaue it.

⁹ And excepte the Lord of hostes had lefte vs a fewe alyue: we shulde haue ben as Sodoma, and lyke vnto Gomorra.

¹ Euen so shall the Lorde of Hostes take awaye from Ierusalem & Iuda, all possessyons and power, al meate and drincke,

⁹ The chaungynge of their countenaunce bewrayeth them, yea they declare theyr owne synnes them selues, as the Sodomites, and hyde them not. Wo be vnto theyr soules, for they shalbe heuely rewarded. ¹⁰ Then shall they saye. O happye are the godly, for they maye enioye the frutes of theyr studyes. ¹¹ But wo be to the vngodlye & vnryghtuous for they shall be rewarded after theyr worckes.

⁷ As for the vyneyarde of the Lorde of Hostes it is the house of Israel, & whole Iuda hys fayre plantynge. Of these he loked for equyte, but se there is wronge: for rightuousnesse, lo, It is but miserye.

⁵ Then I sayde: O wo is me. For I was astonished: that I (which am a man of vncleane lippes and dwell amonge people that hath vncleane lyppes also) shulde se the kynge and the Lorde of hostes wyth myne eyes.

¹³ Neuertheles, the tenthe part shall remayne there in, for it shall conuerte and be frutefull. And lykewyse as the Terebyntes and Oketrees brynge forthe theyr frutes, so shall the holye sede haue frute.

²² For thoughe thy people (O Israel) be as the sande of the sea, yet shall but the remnaunt of them onely conuerte vnto hym. Perfecte is the iudgement of hym that floweth in ryghteousnesse,

²⁴ Then shal Israel with honour be the thirde to Egipt and Assur,

⁸ But the lyberall person ymagyneth honest thynges, and commeth vp with honestye.

¹⁹ but the lyuyng, yee the liuinge acknowledge the, lyke as I do thys daye. The father telleth hys chyldren of thy faythfulnesse.

⁶ I the Lorde haue called the in rightuousnesse, & led the by the hande. Therfore wyll I also defende the, and geue the for a couenaunt of the people, and to be the lyght of the Gentyles. ⁷ That thou mayest open the eyes of the blynde, let out the prisoners, & them that syt in darknesse, out of the dongeon house.

⁸ For thus saith the Lorde: my thoughtes are not youre thoughtes, & youre wayes are not my wayes, ⁹ but as farre as the heauens are hyer then the earth, so farre do my wayes exceade yours, and my thoughtes yours.

¹ Bvt in the meane season the righteous perysheth, and no man regardeth it in his herte. Good godly people are taken awaye, and noman consydreth it. Namely: that the righteous is conuayed awaye thorowe the wicked, ² that he him selfe myght be in reste, lye quietly vpon his bed, & lyue after his owne pleasure.

⁸ But now O Lorde, thou father of oures: we are al the claye, and thou art our potter & we are al the worke of thy handes.

⁸ Moreouer thus sayeth the Lord: lyke as when one would gather holy grapes, men say vnto him: breake it not of for it is holy: euen so wyll I do also for my seruauntes sake, that I wyll not destroye them all.

¹ Loke thorow Ierusalem, beholde and se: Seke thorow the her stretes also wythin, yf ye can fynde one man, that doth equall and right, or that laboureth to be faythfull: and I shall spare hym (sayeth the Lorde.)

¹ O Lorde, thou art more rightuous then that I shulde dyspute with the: Neuertheles, lett me talke wyth the in thynges resonable. How happeneth it, that the waye of the vngodlye is so prosperous: and that it goeth so well with them, which (without eny shame) offende and lyue in wyckednesse?

⁷ Doutles oure owne wickednesse rewarde vs: But Lorde do thou accordinge to thy name, though oure transgressyons and synnes be many.

¹ Then spake the Lorde vnto me, & sayde: Though Moses and Samuel stode before me, yet haue I no herte to thys people. Dryue them awaye, that they maye go out of my syght.

¹ Youre synne (O ye of the trybe of Iuda) is written in the table of youre hertes, and grauen so vpon the edges of your aulters wyth a penne of yron and wyth an adamant clawe:

¹⁰ Euen I the Lorde search out the grounde of the herte, & trye the reynes, and rewarde euery man accordinge to hys wayes, and acordynge to the fruyte of his councels.

²⁰ Do they not recompence euell for good, when they dygg a pyt for my soule? Remembre, how that I stode before the, to speake for them, and to turne awaye thy wrath from them.

²¹ A captayne also shall come of them, and a prince shall sprynge oute from the myddest of them: hym wyll I chalenge to my self, and he shall come vnto me. For what is he, that geueth ouer hys herte to come vnto me, sayth the Lorde.

¹⁷ O Lorde God, it is thou that hast made heauen and earthe wyth thy greate power, and hye arme, and there is nothinge to harde for the.

²⁷ Beholde, I am the Lorde God of all fleshe, is there any thinge then to harde for me?

⁴⁹ Beholde, the sinnes of thy sister Sodoma were these: Pryde, fulnesse of meate, aboundaunce and Idelnesse: these thynges had she and her doughters. Besydes that, they reached not their hande to the pore and nedy, ⁵⁰ but were proude, and dyd abhomynable thinges before me: therfore I toke them awaye, when I had sene it.

³⁰ And I soughte in the lande for a man, that woulde make vp the hedge, and set him selfe in the gappe before me in the landes behalfe, that I shoulde not vtterlye destroy it: but I coulde fynde none.

² you only haue I accepted from all the generacyons of the earthe: therfore wyl I vyset you in all youre wickednesses.

⁷ Nowe doth the Lorde God no maner of thynge, but he telleth hys secrete before vnto hys seruauntes the Prophetes.

⁴ Ye that lye vpon beddes of Iuerye, and vse your wantonnesse vpon your rouches: ye that eate the beste lambes of the flocke, and the fattest calues of the droaue:

³ For why? beholde, the Lord shal go oute of his place, & come downe & treade vpon the hye thynges of the earth.

¹⁸ Where is there such a God as thou? that pardonest wickednes, and forgeuest the offences of the remnaunte of thyne herytage? He kepeth not hys wrath for euer. And why? his delyte is to haue compassyon:

¹² At the same tyme will I seke thorowe Ierusalem with lanternes, and vpset them that contynue in theyr dregges, and saye in theyr hertes. Tushe, the Lorde wil do neyther good nor euyll.

⁶ Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes: yf the residue of this people thincke it to be vnpossible in these dayes, should it therfore be vnpossible in my sight, sayeth the Lord of hostes:

¹⁴ Cursed be the dissembler, which hath in his flocke one that is male and when he maketh a vowe, offereth a spoted one vnto the lord. For I am a great king (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) and my name is fearfull amonge the Heathen.

¹⁸ Turne you therfore, and consydre what difference is betwyxt the ryghteous & vngodly: betwyxt him that serueth God, and him that serueth him not.

⁹ And se that ye once thinke not to saye in your selues, we haue Abraham to our father. For I say vnto you, that God is able of these stones rayse vp children vnto Abraham.

¹¹ Geue vs this daye our daylye breade.

⁷ Axe and it shalbe geuen you. Seke and ye shall fynde. Knocke & it shalbe opened vnto you.

²² yea, and except those dayes should be shortened, there shoulde no fleshe be saued: but for the chosens sake, those daies shalbe shortened.

⁸ And immediatly when Iesus perceyued in hys spirite, that they so reasoned in them selues, he said vnto them why thinke ye suche thynges in your hertes?

Therfore also that holye thynge whiche shall be borne shalbe called the sonne of God. ³⁶ And beholde thy cosyn Elyzabeth hath also conceyued a sonne in her age: & thys is her syxt moneth though she be called barren: ³⁷ for with God can nothing be vnpossyble.

⁸ When Simon Peter sawe that, he fell doune at Iesus knees saiynge: Lorde go

⁴⁴ And he turned to the woman, and sayde vnto Symon: Seist thou this woman? I entred into thy house, and thou gauest me no water to my fete, but she hath washed my fete with teares and wyped them wyth the heyres of her head.

⁵⁰ When Iesus hearde that. He aunswered the father saiynge: Feare not beleue onelye, and she shalbe made whole.

³⁸ It fortuned as they went, that he entred into a certayne toune. And a certayne woman named Martha, receyued hym into her house. ³⁹ And this woman had a syster called Marye whiche sate at Iesus fete, and hearde his preachynge. ⁴⁰ And Martha was combred aboute muche seruynge, and stode and sayed: Mayster doest thou not care, that my syster hath lefte me to mynister alone? Byd her therfore, that she helpe me.

⁸ I saye vnto you, thoughe he woulde not arise and geue him, because he is hys frende: yet because of hys importunitie he wold ryse, and geue him as many as he neded.

³⁷ Happye are those seruauntes, whom the Lorde when he commeth, shall fynde wakynge: Verely I saye vnto you, he wyll girde hym selfe aboute, and make them sytte doune to meate, & walke by, & mynyster vnto them.

²³ And brynge hyther the fatted caulfe and kyll hym, and let vs eate and be merye:

²⁷ And he sayed vnto him: thy brother is come, & thy father hath killed the fatted caulfe, because he hath receyued hym safe and sound.

³⁰ but assone as this thy sonne was come, which hath deuoured thy goodes with harlotes, thou hast for his pleasure kylled the fatted caulfe.

And they that heare shall lyue. ²⁶ For as the father hath lyfe in him selfe, so lykewyse hath he geuen to the sonne to haue lyfe in him selfe, ²⁷ and hath geuen him power also to iudge, in that he is the sonne of man.

³⁸ For I came doune from heauen: not to do myne owne wyll, but his wyll which hath sent me.

Therfore sayed he: ye are not all cleane. ¹² After he had washed theyr fete, and receyued hys clothes, and was set doune agayne, he sayed vnto them. Wote ye what I haue done to you? ¹³ Ye call me mayster and Lorde, & ye saye well, for so am I. ¹⁴ Yf I then your lord and mayster haue washed your fete, ye also ought to wash one anothers fete. ¹⁵ For I haue geuen you an ensample, that ye shoulde do as I haue done to you.

³ And after they were brought on theyr waye by the congregacyon, they passed ouer Phenices and Samaria declarynge the conuersyon of the Gentyls, and they brought great ioye vnto all the brethren.

⁵ If our vnryghtuousnes make the ryghtuousnes of God more excellent: what shall we saye? Is God vnrightuous which taketh vengeaunce? I speake after the maner of men, ⁶ God forbyd. For how then shall God iudge the worlde?

²⁸ Brethren we are after the maner of Isaac children of promes.

²⁰ Vnto hym that is able to do excedinge aboundantly aboue all that we are or thinke, accordinge to the power that worketh in vs,

³³ Neuerthelesse do ye so that euerye one of you loue his wyfe truely euen as hym selfe: And let the wyfe se that she feare her husbande.

⁴ And ye fathers, moue not youre children to wrath, but bringe them vp with the norter and information of the Lorde.

¹⁸ And praye all wayes wyth all maner prayer and supplicacion: and that in the spirite, and watch therunto with all instaunce and supplication for all sainctes,

²¹ whiche shal chaunge oure vyle bodies, that they maie be fashioned like vnto his glorious bodie, accordinge to the working, wherby he is able to subdue all thinges vnto him selfe.

¹³ I can do al thinges thorowe the helpe of Christe whiche strengtheth me.

⁹ Lye not one to another, that the olde man wyth hys workes be put of,

¹⁶ For the Lord hym selfe shall descende from heauen with a shoute, and the voice of the Archangell and trompe of God. And the deade in Christ shall arise fyrste:

¹ I exhorte therfore, that aboue al thynges, prayers, supplicacyons intercessyons, and geuynge of thankes be had for all men:

⁴ and one that ruleth hys owne house honestlye, hauing children vnder obedience, wyth all honestye. ⁵ For yf a man can not rule hys owne house, howe shall he care for the congregacion of God.

¹² Let the deacons be the husbandes of one wyfe, and suche as rule theyr chyldren well, and theyr owne housholdes.

⁵ when I call to remembraunce the vnfayned fayth, that is in the, whiche dwelte fyrste in thy graundmother Loys, and in thy mother Eunica: and am assured that it dwelleth in the also.

¹⁹ But the sure grounde of God remayneth, and hath thys seale: the Lord knoweth them that are his, & let euerye man that calleth on the name of Christe departe from iniquitie.

⁵ to be dyscret, chast, huswyfly, good & obedyent vnto theyr owne husbandes, that the word of God be not euyl spoken of.

¹³ neyther is there anye creature inuisible in the syght of him. For all thinges are naked and bare vnto the eyes of him, of whom we speake.

¹⁶ Let vs therfore go boldely vnto the seate of grace, that we may receiue mercye, and fynde grace to healpe in time of nede.

There is a synne vnto death, for which saye I not that a man shoulde praye.
