¹⁴ Now yf this man get a sonne also, that seyth al his fathers synnes, whiche he hath done: and feareth, neyther doth such lyke.

³ He opened the dores of the house of the Lorde in the fyrst yere & fyrst moneth of hys raygne, & he repayred them. ⁴ And he brought in the prestes & the Leuites & geathered them together in to the easte strete: ⁵ & sayde vnto them. Heare me ye Leuites: purifye youre selues & halow the house of the Lorde God of your fathers, & bringe out the fylthinesse out of the holy place. ⁶ For oure fathers haue trespaced & done euel fauoredly in the eyes of the Lord oure God: and haue forsaken hym, and turned awaye theyre faces from the habitacion of the Lorde and turned to theyr backes. ⁷ And besyde that they haue shut vp the dores of the porche and quenched the lampes and haue nether burned cense nor offered burntofferinges in the holy place vnto the God of Israel. ⁸ Wherfore the wrath of the Lord fell on Iuda & Ierusalem: & he skatered them & made them so thynne that men hisse at yt, euen as ye se with youre eyes. ⁹ For se, oure fathers were ouer throwen with the swerde & oure sonnes oure daughters and oure wiues were caried awaye captiue for the same cause. ¹⁰ Now haue I in my hert to stryke a couenaunt with the Lorde God of Israel: that his wrath maye cease. ¹¹ Now therfore my sonnes be not neclygent: for the Lorde hath chosen you to stande before hym, and for to minystre and burne offerynges to hym.

²¹ go & enquire of the Lorde for me and for them that are lefte in Israel and Iuda, concernyng the wordes of the boke that is founde. For great is the wrath of the Lord that is fallen vpon vs, because oure fathers kept not the worde of the Lorde, to do after all that is written in this boke.

⁵⁹ I cal myne owne wayes to remembrance, and turne my fete into thy testimonies. ⁶⁰ I make haste, and prolonge not the time, to kepe thy commaundementes.

²¹ An vnwyse body bringeth him selfe into sorow, and the father of a foole can haue no ioye.

²⁴ (for a rightuous father is maruelous glad of a wyse son, and deliteth in him)

¹⁹ They pondre not in their myndes, for they haue nether knowledge ner vnderstandyng, to thyncke thus: I haue brent one pece in the fyre: I haue baked bred with the coles there of, I haue rosted flesh with all, & eaten it: shall I now of the resydue make an abhomynacyon, & fall downe before a rotten pece of wodd?

⁶ For I haue loked, & consydered: but there is no man that speaketh a good worde: there is no man that taketh repentaunce for hys synne, that wyll so muche as saye: wherfore haue I done thys? But euerye man (as sone as he is turned backe) runneth forth styl, lyke a wylde horse in a battayle.

¹⁴ but folowed the wyckednes of theyr owne hertes, and serued straunge Goddes, as theyr fathers taught them.

¹⁷ but whatsoeuer goeth oute of oure owne mouth, that wyl we do. We wyl do sacryfice, and offre oblacions vnto the Quene of Heauen: lyke as we & our forefathers, our kinges and oure heades haue done in the cities of Iuda, & in the stretes, & feldes of Ierusalem. For then had we plenteousnesse of vytayles, then were we in prosperytie, and no mysfortune came vpon vs.

¹⁰ Yf he now get a sonne, that is a murtherer a sheder of bloude: yf he do one of these thinges

²⁸ For in so muche as he remembreth hym selfe, & turneth him from all the vngodlynes, that he had vsed, he shall lyue, and not dye.

¹⁸ Moreouer I sayde vnto their sonnes in the wildernesse: walcke not in the statutes of your forfathers kepe not their ordinaunces, and defyle not youre selues with their Idoles,

² They consydre not in their hertes that I remembre all their wickednes. They go aboute with their owne inuencions, but I se them wel ynough.

⁵ Consydre nowe youre owne wayes in youre hertes (sayth the Lorde of hostes)

⁷ Thus sayeth the Lorde of hostes: Consydre your owne wayes in your hertes,

¹⁸ Consydre then from thys daye forth and afore, namely, from the .xxiiij. daye of the .ix. moneth, vnto the daye that the foundacion of the Lordes temple was layed: marck it wel

³² Fulfil ye likewyse the measure of your fathers.

¹⁷ Then he came to hym selfe, and sayed: Howe many hyred seruauntes at my fathers haue breade ynough, and I dye for honger, ¹⁸ I wyll aryse, and go to my father, and will say vnto hym: father I haue synned agaynst heauen and before the, ¹⁹ and am no more worthye to be called thy sonne, make me as one of thy hyred seruauntes.

¹⁸ For as muche as ye know howe that ye were not redemed wyth corruptyble syluer and golde, from youre vayne conuersacyon whiche ye receyued by the tradicyons of the fathers:
