¹ And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people sayinge: kepe al the commaundementes which I commaunde you thys daye. ² And when ye be come ouer Iordan vnto the land whiche the Lorde thy God geueth the, set vp greate stones and plaister them wyth playster, ³ and wryte vpon them al the wordes of this lawe, when thou arte come ouer: that thou mayst come into the land which the Lord thy god geueth the: a land that floweth with mylke & honye as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promysed the. ⁴ When ye be com ouer Iordan, se that ye set vp these stones whyche I commaunde you this daye in mount Ebal, & plaister them with playster. ⁵ And there bylde vnto the Lord thy God, an altare of stones and se thou lyfte vp no yron vpon them: ⁶ But thou shalt make the alter of the Lord thy God of rough stones and offer burntofferynges theron vnto the Lorde thy God. ⁷ And thou shalt offer peaceoffringes and shalt eate there and reioyse before the Lord thy God. ⁸ And thou shalt wryt vpon the stones al the wordes of thys lawe, manyfestly and well. ⁹ And Moses wyth the preastes the Leuytes spake vnto all Israel sayinge: take hede and heare Israel, thys daye thou art become the people of the Lord thy God. ¹⁰ Herken therfore vnto the voyce of the Lord thy God & do his commandementes & his ordinaunces which I commaunde you this day. ¹¹ And Moses charged the people the same daye sayinge. ¹² These shall stande vpon mount Garizim to blesse the people, when ye are come ouer Iordan, Symeon, Leui, Iuda, Isachar, Ioseph and Beniamin. ¹³ And these shal stande vpon mount Ebal to curse: Ruben, Gad, Aser, Zabulon, Dan & Nephthali. ¹⁴ And the Leuites shall begynne & say vnto al the men of Israel wyth a loude voyce. ¹⁵ Cursed be he that maketh anye carued ymage or ymage of metall (an abhominacion vnto the Lord, the worke of the hands of the craftesman) and putteth it in a secret place: and all the people shall answere & saye Amen. ¹⁶ Cursed be he that curseth hys father or his mother, and all the people shall saye Amen. ¹⁷ Cursed be he that remoueth his neighbours marcke and all the people shall saye Amen. ¹⁸ Cursed be he that maketh the blynd go out of his waye, & all the people shall saye Amen. ¹⁹ Cursed be he that hyndreth the right of the straunger, fatherlesse and wydowe, and all the people shall saye Amen. ²⁰ Cursed be he that lyeth wyth hys fathers wyfe because he hath opened hys fathers couerynge, and all the people shal saye Amen. ²¹ Cursed be he that lyeth wyth anye maner beast, and all the people shall saye Amen. ²² Cursed be he that lieth wt his syster whether shee be the daughter of hys father or of hys mother, and all the people shall saye Amen. ²³ Cursed be that lyeth wyth hys mother in lawe, and all the people shall saye Amen. ²⁴ Cursed be he that smiteth his neyghbour secretly, and all the people shall saye Amen. ²⁵ Cursed be he that taketh a rewarde to sle innocent bloude, & all the people shal saye Amen. ²⁶ Cursed be he that mayntayneth not the wordes of thys lawe to do them, and all the people shal say Amen.

²⁵ he said: Cursed be Canaan, & a seruant of al seruantes be he to hys brethren.

³² And Lea conceaued & bare a sonne, & called eys name Ruben, for she sayd: the Lorde hath loked vpon my tribulation. And nowe my husband wyll loue me. ³³ And she conceaued agayne & bare a sonne, and sayd: the Lorde hath hearde that I am despysed, & hath therfore geuen me thys Sonne also, & she called hym Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceaued yet, and bare a sonne and sayed: now thys once wyll my husbande kepe me companye, bycause I haue borne him thre sonnes: and therfore she called hys name Leui. ³⁵ And she conceyued yet agayne, and bare a sonne sayinge: nowe wyll I prayse the Lorde: therfore she called hys name Iuda, and left bearyng.

⁶ Then said Rahel. God hath gyuen sentence on my syde, & hath also heard my voyce, and hath geuen me a sonne. Therefore called she him Dan. ⁷ And Bylha Rahels mayd conceaued agayne, and bare Iacob an other sonne. ⁸ And Rahel sayd: God is turned, and I haue made a chaunge wyth my syster, and haue gotten the vpper hande. And she called hys name: Nepthaly. ⁹ When Lea sawe that she had left bearing she toke Silpha hyr mayd, and gaue hyr Iacob to wyfe. ¹⁰ And Silpha Leas mayed bare Iacob a sonne. ¹¹ Then sayed Lea: Good luck: & called his name Gad. ¹² And Silpha Leas mayd bare Iacob an other sonne. ¹³ Then sayd Lea: happy am I, for the doughters wil call me blessed. And called his name Asser.

¹⁸ Then sayed Lea. God hath geuen me my rewarde, bycause I gaue my mayden to my husbande, and she called hym Isachar.

²⁰ Then sayed she. God hath endewed me wyth a good dowrye. Nowe wyll my husbande dwell wyth me, bycause I haue borne him syxe sonnes: and called hys name Zabulon.

²⁴ And she called hys name Ioseph, saying. The Lord giue me yet an other sonne.

¹⁹ Laban was gone to shere his shepe, & Rahel had stolen hir fathers images.

³⁴ And Rahel toke the Images & put them in the camels strawe & sate downe vpon them. And Laban searched all the tente but found them not.

³ Ruben thou art myne eldest sonne, my myghte and the begynnyng of my strength, chefe in receyuynge and chefe in power. ⁴ As vnstable as water wast thou: thou shalt therfore not be the chefest, for thou wenst vp vpon thy fathers bedd, and than defyledest thou my couche with goyng vp.

¹⁷ And he that curseth his father or mother, shalbe put to death for it.

¹⁹ Whosoeuer lyeth with a beast, shalbe slayne for it.

²¹ Vexe not a straunger nether opresse hym for ye were strangers in the land of Egipt ²² Ye shal trouble no widdowe nor fatherlesse chylde: ²³ If ye shall trouble them: they shall crye vnto me, and I wyll surelye heare their crye ²⁴ and then wyl my wrath waxe hote and I wyl kil you with the sweard, and your wiues shalbe widdowes and your chyldren fatherlesse.

² Thou shalt not folowe a multitude to do euell: neyther answere in a matter of plea that thou (wouldest to folow manye) turne asyde from the trueth,

⁷ Kepe the ferre from a false matter, and the Innocente and righteous se thou sley not, for I wil not iustify the wicked. ⁸ Thou shalt take no gyftes, for gyftes blynd the seynge and peruerte the wordes of the ryghteous.

⁴ Then Moyses wrote all the wordes of the Lorde & rose vp early and made an aulter vnder the hyl, & .xij. pyllers according to the numbre of the .xij. trybes of Israell,

¹ And whan the people saw that it was long or Moses came down out of the mountaine, they gathered theym selues together and came vnto Aaron and sayd vnto him. Vp and make vs a God to goo before vs: for of thys Moises the felow that brought vs out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become. ² And Aaron sayd vnto them: plucke of the golden earynges whyche are in the eares of youre wyues, youre sonnes and of youre daughters: and brynge them vnto me. ³ And all the people plucked of the golden earinges that were in their eares, and broughte them vnto Aaron. ⁴ And he receiued them of their hands and facyoned it wyth a grauer & made it a calfe of molten metall. And they sayde This is thy God O Israel, which brought the out of the land of Egypte.

¹ And the Lorde called Moses & spak to hym oute of the tabernacle of wytnesse saiyng: ² speake vnto the chyldren of Israel, and saye vnto them: who soeuer of you shal brynge a gyfte vnto the Lord, shal brynge it of the catel: euen of the oxen and of the shepe. ³ If he brynge a burntoffrynge of the oxen he shall brynge a male wythout blemysh, & shal brynge hym to the dore of the tabernacle of wytnesse, that he maye be accepted before the Lorde. ⁴ And let hym put hys hand vpon the heed of the burntsacryfice, and fauoure shalbe geuen hym to make an attonement for hym, ⁵ and let hym kyll the oxe before the Lorde. And let the preastes Aarons sonnes bringe the bloud and let them sprynkel it rounde aboute vpon the alter that is before the dore of the tabernacle of witnesse. ⁶ And let the burntoffrynges be strypped and hewed in peces. ⁷ And then let the sonnes of Aaron the preast put fyre vpon the alter, ⁸ & put wood vpon the fyre, & let them laye the peces with the heed and the fatte, vpon the wood that is on the fyre in the alter. ⁹ But the inwardes and the legges shey shall wash in water, and the preast shal burne altogether vpon the alter, that it be a burntsacrifyce & an offring of a swete odoure vnto the Lord. ¹⁰ Yf he wyl offer a burnt sacrifice of the shepe whether it be of the lambes or of the gootes he shal offer a male wythout blemysh. ¹¹ And let hym kyll it on the northsyde of the alter, before the Lord. And let the Preastes Aarons sonnes sprynkle the bloude of it round about vpon the alter. ¹² And let it be cut in peces: euen wyth hys heed and his fatte, and let the preast put them vpon the wood that lyeth vpon the fyre in the alter. ¹³ But let hym wash the inwardes and the legges wyth water, and than brynge all together and burne it vpon the alter: that is a burntoffryng and a sacrifyce of swete sauour vnto the Lorde. ¹⁴ If he wyl offer a burntoffrynge of the foules he shall offer eyther of the turtyll doues or of the yong pigeons. ¹⁵ And the Preast shal bryng it vnto the alter, and wrynge the necke a sundre of it, & burne it on the alter, and let the bloude runne out vpon the sydes of the alter, ¹⁶ and plucke awaye hys croppe & his fethers, & cast them besyde the alter on the east parte vpon the hepe of asshes, ¹⁷ and breke hys wynges, but plucke them not asundre. And then let the Preast burne it vpon the alter, euen vpon the wood that lyeth vpon the fyre, a burntsacryfyce and an offrynge of a swete sauoure vnto the Lorde.

¹ If a man brynge a peace offerynge of the oxen: whether it be male or female, he shal bringe such as is without blemish, before the Lorde: ² and let hym put hys hande vppon the heade of hys offerynge, and kyll it before the dore of the tabernacle of wytnes. And Aarons sonnes the preastes shal sprinkle the bloud vpon the aulter round aboute. ³ And they shal offer of the peaceoffering to be a sacrifice vnto the Lord the fatt that couereth the inwardes, and all the fat that is vpon the inwardes: ⁴ & the two kidneys with the fatt that lyeth vpon the loynes: and the kall that is on the lyuer they shall take awaye wyth the kidneyes. ⁵ And Aarons sonnes shall burne them vpon the alter with the burnt sacrifice which is vpon the wodd on the fyre. That is a Sacrifice of a swete sauour vnto the Lorde. ⁶ If a man brynge a peace offeryng vnto the Lord from of the flocke, whether it be male or female, it shall be without blemysh. ⁷ If he offer a Lambe, he shall brynge it before the Lord, ⁸ and put his hand vpon his offeringes head, & kyll it in the dore of the Takernacle of wytnesse, & Aarons sonnes shall sprynkle the bloud therof round about the aulter. ⁹ And of the peace offering they shall bryng a sacrifyce vnto the Lorde: the fatt therof & the rompe altogyther, whych they shal take of hard by the backe bone: & the fatt that couereth the inwardes & al the fatt that is vpon the inwardes ¹⁰ & the two kydneys with the fatt that lyeth vpon them & vpon the loynes, and the kall that is vppon the lyuer he shall take awaye wyth the kydneys. ¹¹ And the prieste shall burne them vpon the aulter to fede the Lordes offerynge wyth all. ¹² If the offeryng be a goote, he shal brynge it before the Lorde, ¹³ & put his hande vpon the head of it, and kyl it before the tabernacle of wytnes, and the sonnes of Aaron shal sprinkle the bloud thereof vpon the aulter round aboute. ¹⁴ And he shal bryng therof his offring vnto the Lordes sacrifyce: the fatt that couereth the inwardes & all the fatte that is vpon the inwardes ¹⁵ & the two kydneys & the fatte that lieth vpon them and vpon the loynes, & the kal the is vpon the lyuer he shal take away with the kydneys. ¹⁶ And the prieste shal burne them vpon the alter to fede the Lordes sacrifice wt all, & to make a swete sauour. ¹⁷ And thus shall all the fat be the Lordes, and it shall be a lawe for euer amonge youre generations after you in your dwellynge places: that ye eate neyther fat nor bloud.

¹¹ Thys is the lawe of the peaceofferinges which shalbe offered to the Lorde. ¹² If he offer to gyue thanckes, he shal bryng vnto hys thanke offeringe: swete cakes mingled wyth oyle and swete wafers anoynted wyth oyle, & cakes mingled wyth oyle of fyne flower fryed, ¹³ & he shal bring his offeryng vpon cakes made of leuended bread vnto the thankeoffering of his peace offeringes ¹⁴ and of them al he shal offer one to be an heueofferynge vnto the Lorde, and it shall be the Priestes that sprynkeleth the bloude of the peaceofferynges. ¹⁵ And the flesh of the thankeoffering of his peaceofferinges shalbe eaten the same day that it is offered, and there shal none of it be layed vp vntil the mornyng. ¹⁶ If it be a vowe or a fre wyloffringe that he bryngeth, the same daye that he offereth it it shal be eaten, & that which remaineth may be eaten on the morowe: ¹⁷ but as much of the offered flesh as remaineth vnto the third day shalbe burnt with fyre.

⁸ The secreates of thy fathers wife shalt thou not dyscouer, for they are thy fathers secreates. ⁹ Thou shalt not discouer the preuitie of thi sister, the daughter of thy father or of thy mother: whether she be borne at home or wtout.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not dyscouer the preuytes of the wyfe & her daughter also, nether shalt thou take her sonnes daughter or her daughters daughter to vncouer theyr secrettes, they are her next kyn, it were therfore wikidnesse.

²³ Thou shalt lye wt no maner of beeste to defyle thy selfe therwith, nether shal any woman stonde before a beest to lye doune therto, for that is abhominacion.

Be holy for I the Lord youre God am holye. ³ Se that ye feare euery man hys father and hys mother, and that ye kepe my Sabothes, for I am the Lord youre God. ⁴ Ye shall not turne vnto ydolles nor make you goddes of metall: I am the Lord your God.

¹⁴ Thou shalt not curse the deaffe, neyther put a stomblynge blocke before the blynd: but shalt feare thy god. I am the Lord.

⁹ Whosoeuer curseth his father or mother shal dye for it, his bloud on his head, because he hath cursed hys father or mother.

¹¹ If a man lye wyth hys fathers wyfe and vncouer hys fathers secreates, they shall both dye for it, their bloud be vpon their headdes.

¹⁴ If a man take a wyfe & her mother therto, it is wickednesse. Men shal burne with fyre both hym and them, that there be no wickednesse amonge you. ¹⁵ If a man lye wyth a beast he shall dye, and ye shal slea the beast.

¹⁷ If a man take his syster his fathers daughter or his mothers daughter, & se her secreates, and she se his secreates also: it is a weked thynge. Therfore let them perysh in the syghte of their people, he hath sene his systers secretnesse, he shall therfore beare his synne.

²⁴ But I haue sayde vnto you that ye shall enioye their lande, & that I wyll geue it vnto you to possesse it: euen a land that floweth wyth mylke and hony. I am the Lord your God, which haue separated you from other nacions:

¹⁷ He that killeth any manne, shall dye for it

¹ I am the Lorde your God. Ye shal make you no Idolles nor grauen image, neyther reare you vp anye piller, neyther ye shall sette vppe anye image of stone in your Lande to bowe youre selues therto: for I am the Lorde youre God:

²² in this bitter cursing water goo in to the bowels of the, that thy bely swel and thy thygh rotte, and the wyfe shal say Amen Amen.

²⁷ And they tolde hym sayinge: we came vnto the land wether thou sendest vs, and surelye it is a lande that floweth wyth milke and honye and here is of the frute of it.

⁸ If the Lorde haue lust to vs he wyl brynge vs in to thys land and geue it vs, whyche is a lande that floweth wyth mylke and hony.

³¹ Moreouer ye shall take none amendes for the lyfe of the murtherer whyche is worthy to dye: But he shall be put to death.

¹ And now herken Israel vnto the ordinaunces & lawes which I teach you, for to do them, that ye maye lyue & go and conquere the lande whych the Lorde God of youre fathers geueth you. ² Ye shall put nothynge vnto the worde whych I commaunde you nether do ought therfrom, that ye maye kepe the commandementes of the Lord your God which I commaunde you. ³ Youre eyes haue sene what the Lord dyd vnto Baal Peor: for all the men that folowed Baal Peor, the Lord your God hath destroyed among you.

¹⁶ & make you grauen ymages after whatsoeuer likenes it be: whether after the lykenesse of manne or woman ¹⁷ or any maner beaste that is on the earth or of anye maner fethered foule that flyeth in the ayre, ¹⁸ or of anye maner worme that creapeth on the earth or of anye maner fish that is in the water beneth the earth. ¹⁹ Yea, & least thou lyfte vp thyne eye vnto heauen, & when thou seist the sunne and the mone and the starres and whatsoeuer is contained in heauen, shouldest be deceyued and shouldest bowe thy selfe to them and serue the thynges whych the Lord thy God hathe distributed vnto all nations that are vnder al quarters of heauen. ²⁰ For the Lorde toke you and brought you out of the, yron furnace of Egipt, to be vnto him a people of enheritaunce, as it is come to passe thys daye. ²¹ Furthermore, the Lorde was angrye wt me for youre sakes & sware, that I shoulde not go ouer Iordan and that I should not go vnto that good land, which the Lorde thy God geueth the to enheritaunce. ²² For I must dye in thys Land, & shal not go ouer Iordan. But ye shall go ouer and conquere that good land. ²³ Take hede to your selues therefore, that ye forgett not the appoyntment of the Lorde your god which he made with you, & that ye make you no grauen ymage of whatoeuer it be that the Lorde thy God hath forbydden the.

⁸ Thou shalte make the no grauen Image of anye maner lykenesse that is in heauen aboue, or in the earth beneth, or in the water beneth the earth.

¹ These are the commaundementes, ordinaunces & lawes whyche the Lorde youre God commaunded to teache you, that ye myghte do theym in the Lande whyther ye go to possesse it:

⁸ and thou shalt bynd them for a sygne vpon thyne hande. And they shall be papers of remembraunce betwene thyne eyes and

¹⁷ For the Lord your God, he is god of Goddes, and Lorde of Lordes, a greate God, a myghty and a terrible whych regardeth no mans person, nor taketh giftes: ¹⁸ but doth right vnto the fatherles & wydowe and loueth the straunger, to giue him fode and raiment.

¹ Loue the Lorde thy God and kepe hys obseruaunces, hys ordinaunces, hys lawes and and hys commaundementes alwaye.

⁷ For youre eyes haue seene all the greate dedes of the Lord whych he dyd. ⁸ Kepe therfore al the commaundementes whiche I commaunde the thys day, that ye may be stronge and go and conquere the lande whether ye go to possesse it,

²⁶ Beholde I sette before you thys daye, a blessynge, and a curse: ²⁷ a blessynge: if that ye herken vnto the commaundementes of the Lord ²⁸ And a curse: if ye wyll not herken vnto the commaundementes of the Lord your God: but turne out of the waye which I commaunde you this daye, to go after straunge Goddes which ye haue not knowne. ²⁹ When the Lord thy God hath brought the into the lande whether thou goest to possesse it, then put the blessyng vpon mount Garizim and the curse vpon mount Ebal,

⁷ And there ye shall eate before the Lord your God, and ye shal reioyce in al that you lay your handes on, boeth ye and your housholdes, bicause the Lord thy God hath blessed the.

¹⁴ And thou shalte reioyce in that thy feast, both thou & thy sonne thy daughter, thy seruaunt, thy mayd, the Leuite, the straunger, the fatherles, & the widow that are in thy cities.

¹⁹ Wrest not the lawe nor know any person nether take any reward for giftes blind the wise & peruert the wordes of the ryghtuous.

¹¹ But and yf there be any man that hateth hys neyghboure and layeth awayte for him & riseth agaynst hym & smyteth him that he dye, & fleeth vnto any of these cytyes. ¹² Then let the elders of his citye sende & fetche him thence & deliuer hym into the handes of the iustice of bloude, & he shall dye,

¹⁴ Thou shalt not remoue thy neyghboures mark whych they of olde tyme haue sett in thyne enheritaunce that thou enherettest in the lande whihe the Lorde thy God geueth the to enioye it.

¹⁸ Yf any man haue a sonne that is stubburne & disobedient, that he wyl not herken vnto the voyce of hys father & voyce of his mother, & they haue taught him nurtour, but he wolde not herken vnto them: ¹⁹ Then let his father & his mother take him and bring him out vnto the elders of that citie and vnto the gate of that same place, ²⁰ & say vnto the elders of the citie, This our sonne is stubburne and dysobedient and wyl not herken vnto oure voyce, he is a ryoter and a dronckarde. ²¹ Then let al the men of that citie stone him with stons vnto death And thou shalt put euell awaye from the, & all Israel shall heare & feare.

³⁰ No man shall take his fathers wyfe, nor vnhylle his fathers couerynge.

¹⁷ Hynder not the ryght of the straunger nor of the fatherlesse, nor take wedowes rayment to pledge.

¹ When thou art come into the land whyche the Lord thy God geueth the to enheret and hast enioyed it and dwellest therin:

And they shall folowe the vntyll thou peryshe. ²³ And the heauen that is ouer thy head shalbe brasse, & the erthe that is vnder the, yeron. ²⁴ And the Lorde shall turne the rayne of the land vnto powder & dust: euen from heauen they shall come doune vpon the, vntyll thou be brought to nought. ²⁵ And the Lorde shall plage the before thyne enmyes: Thou shalt come out one waye agaynste them, and flee seuen wayes before them, & shalt be scatered amonge al the kingdomes of the erth. ²⁶ And thy carkesse shalbe meate vnto all maner foules of the apre and vnto the beastes of the erth, and no man shall fraye them awaye. ²⁷ And the Lorde wyll smyte the wyth the botches of Egypt and the emoroydes, scalle & maungynesse, that thou shalt not be healed therof. ²⁸ And the Lorde shall smyte the wyth madnesse, blyndnesse & dasyng of herte. ²⁹ And thou shalt grope at none dayes as the blynd gropeth in darknesse, and shalt not come to the ryght waye. And thou shalt suffer wronge only & be polled euermore, and no man shall sucker the, ³⁰ thou shalt be betrawthed vnto a wyfe, and another shal lye with her. Thou shalt buylde and house & another shal dwell therin. Thou shalt plante a vyneard, & shalt not make it comen. ³¹ Thyne oxe shalbe slayne before thyne eyes, and thou shalt not eate therof. Thyne asse shalbe vyolentlye taken awaye euen bofore thy face, and shall not be restored the agayne. Thy shepe shalbe geuen vnto thyne enemyes, and no man shall helpe the. ³² Thy sonnes and thy daughters shall be geuen vnto another nacion, and thyne eyes shall se and dase vpon them all daye longe, but shalt haue no myght in thyne hande. ³³ The frute of thy lande and all thy laboures shall a nacion which thou knowest not, eate, and thou shalt but suffre vyolence only & be oppressed alwaye: ³⁴ that thou shalt be cleane besyde thy selfe for the syghte of thyne eyes which thou shalt se. ³⁵ The Lord shal smyte the wyth a myscheuous botche in the knees and legges, so that thou canst not be healed: euen from the sole of the fote vnto the toppe of the head. ³⁶ The Lord shall brynge both the and thy kynge whych thou hast sett ouer the, vnto a nacyon whych nether thou nor thy fathers haue knowne, and there thou shalt serue straunge Goddes: euen wod & stone, ³⁷ And thou shalt go to waste & be made an ensample, & a iestynge stocke vnto all nacyons whether the Lord shall carye the. ³⁸ Thou shalt carie moch seed out in the felde & shalt gather but lytle in: for the greshopers shall destroye it. ³⁹ Thou shalt plante a veynearde & dresse it, but shalt nether drynke of the wyne neither gather of the grapes, for the wormes shall eate it. ⁴⁰ Thou shalt haue olyuetrees in al thy coastes, but shalt not be anoynted with the oyle, for thyne olyue trees shalbe roted out. ⁴¹ Thou shalt get sonnes and daughters, but shalt not haue them: for they shalbe caryed awaye captiue. ⁴² All thy trees and frute of thy lande shalbe marred with blastynge. ⁴³ The straungers that are a monge you shall clyme aboue the vp on hye, and thou shalt come doune beneth alowe. ⁴⁴ He shal lende the & thou shalt not lende him, he shalbe before and thou behynde. ⁴⁵ Moreouer all these curses shall come vpon the & shall folowe the and ouertake the, tyll thou be destroyed: because thou herkenedest not vnto the voyce of the Lorde thy God, to kepe his commandementes and ordynaunces whych he commaunded the, ⁴⁶ and they shalbe vpon the as miracles and wonders & vpon thy seed for euer. ⁴⁷ And because thou seruedest not the Lord thy God wyth ioyfulnesse and with a good herte for the abundaunce of all thinges, ⁴⁸ therfore thou shalt serue thyne enemye which the Lord shall sende vpon the: in hunger and thrust, in nakednesse and in nede of all thynge: & he shall put a yocke of yeron vpon thyne necke, vntyll he haue broughte the to nought. ⁴⁹ And the Lord shal brynge a nacyon vpon the from a farre, euen from the ende of the world, as swyfte as an egle flyeth: a nacyon whose tonge thou shalt not vnderstande: ⁵⁰ a harde fauoured nacyon whiche shall not regarde the person of the olde nor haue compassion on the yonge. ⁵¹ And he shall eate the frute of thy lande and the frute of thy catell vntill he haue destroyed the: so that he shall leaue the nether corne, wyne, nor oyle, nether the encrease of thyne oxen nor the flockes of thy shepe: vntyll he haue brought the to nought. ⁵² And he shall kepe the in, in all thy cities, vntyll the hye & stronge walles be come doune wherin thou trustedest, thorow al the lande. And he shal besyege the in al thy cytyes thorow out all thy land which the Lord thy god hath geuen the. ⁵³ And thou shalt eate the frute of thyne owne body: the flesh of thi sonnes and of thy daughters whych the Lorde thy God hath geuen the, in that straytenesse & seyge wherwith thine enemye shal besyege the, ⁵⁴ so that it shal greue the man that is tender and exceadynge delycate amonge you, to loke on hys brother and vpon his wyfe that lyeth in hys bosome, & on the remnaunte of his chyldren which he hath yet lefte, ⁵⁵ for feare of geuynge vnto any of them of the flesh of his children, which he eateth, because he hath noughte lefte him in that straytenes and seyge wherwyth thyne enemyes shall besyege the in all thy cyties. ⁵⁶ Yea, and the woman that is so tender & delycate among you that she dare not aduenture to sett the sole of her foote vpon the grounde for softnesse and tendernesse, shalbe greued to loke on the husbande that lyeth in her bosome and on her sonne & on her daughter: ⁵⁷ euen because of the after byrthe, that is come out from betwene her legges, & because of her chyldren which she hath borne, because she wolde eate them for nede of all thynges secretly, in the straytenes & seyge wherwyth thyne enemye shal besyege the in thy cyties. ⁵⁸ If thou wilt not be dyligent to do all the wordes of this law that are wrytten in thys boke, for to feare this glorious and fearfull name of the Lorde thy God: ⁵⁹ the Lorde wyll smyte both the and thy sead with wonderful plages and with greate plages and of longe continuaunce, ⁶⁰ and with euell sekenesses and of longe duraunce. Moreouer he wyll brynge vpon the al the diseases of Egypt which thou wast afrayed of, and they shall cleaue vnto the. ⁶¹ Therto al maner sickenesses and all maner plages which are not wrytten in the boke of this lawe, wyll the Lord brynge vpon the vntyll thou be come to noughte. ⁶² And ye shalbe lefte fewe in nombre, where before ye were as the starres of heauen in multitude: because thou woldest not herken vnto the voyce of the Lord thy God. ⁶³ And as the Lord reioysed ouer you to do you good & to multyplye you: euen so he wil reioyse ouer you, to destroy you and to bring you to nought. And ye shalbe wasted from of the lande whether thou goest to enioye it. ⁶⁴ And the Lord shall scater the amonge all nacions from the one ende of the world vnto the other and there thou shalt serue straunge goddes, whyche nether thou nor thy fathers haue knowne: euen wood and stone. ⁶⁵ And amonge these nacyons thou shalt be no small ceason, and yet shalt haue no reste to the sole of thy foote. For the Lorde shall geue the there a tremblynge herte & dasynge eyes & sorowe of mynde. ⁶⁶ And thy lyfe shall hange before the, & thou shalt feare both day and nyght & shalt haue no trust in thy lyfe. ⁶⁷ In the mornyng thou shalt saye, wold God it were nyght. ⁵ & sayde vnto them: get you before the arcke of the Lorde youre God euen into the myddes of Iordan, and take vp euerye man a stone vpon hys shoulder, accordynge vnto the nombre of the trybes of the chyldren of Israel, ⁶ that thys maye be a sygne amonge you. And when youre chyldren aske theyr fathers in tyme to come, sayinge: what meane ye wyth these stones: ⁷ then say vnto them, how that the water of Iordan deuyded at the presence of the arcke of the appoyntmente of the Lord: euen while it went ouer Iordan, the water of Iordan deuyded. And these stones shalbe a memoryall vnto the chyldren of Israel for euer. ⁸ And the chyldren of Israel dyd euen so as Iosua commaunded, and toke vp twelue stones oute of the myddes of Iordan, as the Lorde sayde vnto Iosua accordynge to the nombre of the trybes of the chyldren of Israel, & caryed them awaye wyth them vnto the place where they lodged, and layed them doune there. ⁹ And thereto Iosua set vp twelue stones in the myddes of Iordan in the place where the fete of the pryestes which bare the arcke of the testament stode. And there they be euen vnto thys day. ¹⁰ For the priestes whiche bare the arcke stoode in the myddes of Iordan, vntyll all was fynyshed that the Lorde commaunded Iosua to saye vnto the people, accordynge to all that Moyses charged Iosua. And the people hasted & went ouer. ¹¹ When all the people were cleane ouer then went ouer the arcke of the Lorde, and also the priestes before the people. ¹² And the chyldren of Ruben, and the chyldren of Gad, and halfe the trybe of Manasses went before the chyldren of Israel armed, as Moses charged them. ¹³ Vpon a fourthy thousande trymmed for warre, went before the Lorde vnto battel, euen vnto the wylde feldes of Iericho. ¹⁴ That daye the Lord magnyfyed Iosua in the syght of all Israell, and they feared hym, as they feared Moses all dayes of hys lyfe. ¹⁵ And the Lorde spake vnto Iosua, saiyng: ¹⁶ commaunde the priestes that beare the arcke of wytnesse to come vp oute of Iordan. ¹⁷ And Iosua commaunded the priestes sayinge: Ascende vp oute of Iordan. ¹⁸ And when the pryestes that bare the arcke of the appoyntemente of the Lorde were ascended out of Iordan: as sone as the sooles of the priestes fete were brought to drye lande, the water of Iordan retourned agayn vnto his place, & went ouer all his banckes as he dyd before. ¹⁹ And the people came vp oute of Iordan the tenthe day of the fyrste moneth, and pytched in Galgal euen in the easte bordes of Iericho. ²⁰ And the twelue stones which they toke out of Iordan, Iosua pitched in Galgal. ²¹ And he spake vnto the chyldren of Israel sayinge, when your chyldren aske you in tyme to come, sayinge: what meane these stones, ²² shewe your chyldren and saye: Israel came ouer thys Iordan on drye lande. ²³ For the Lorde youre God dryed vp the water of Iordan before you, vntyll ye were ouer, as the Lorde youre GOD dyd vnto the red sea, whiche he dryed vp before vs, tyll we were ouer, ²⁴ that all the people of the worlde maye knowe the hande of the Lorde how myghtye it is, and that ye myght feare the Lorde youre God for euer.

⁹ Wherfore hast thou despised the commaundement of the Lorde, to do wyckednesse in hys syght? thou hast kylde Vrias the hethyte with the swerde, and hast taken hys wyfe to thy wyfe, & hast slayne hym wyth the swerde of the chyldren of Amnon. ¹⁰ Now therfore the swerd shal neuer depart from thyne house, because (saythe the Lorde) thou hast despysed me, and taken the wyfe of Vrias the Aethite, to be thy wyfe. ¹¹ Thus saith the Lorde: beholde I wyl stere vp euyl against the euen of thyne owne house & wyll take thy wyues before thyne eyes, and geue them vnto thy neyghboure, which shal slepe with them in the syght of the sonne. ¹² And thou dyddeste it secretely, yet wyll I do this thinge before al Israel and in the open sonne lyght.

And thou shalt be as one of the foles in Israel. And then Ioab and Abisai his brother folowed after Seba the sonne of Bochri.

⁵ And Salomon folowed Astaroth the God of the Zidons, & Milcom the abhominacyon of the Ammonytes. ⁶ And Salomon wrought wickednesse in the syght of the Lorde, & continued not after the Lorde as dyd Dauid his father. ⁷ After that Salomon buylt an aulter for Chamos the abhomynacyon of the Moabytes in the hyll that standeth before Ierusalem, & vnto Moloch the abhomynacyon of the chyldren of Ammon.

For sence the tyme of Salomon the sonne of Dauid kynge of Israel yt happened not so in Ierusalem. ²⁷ And the preastes and the Leuites arose and blessed the people, and theyr voce was hearde and theyr prayer went vp vnto hys holye dwellyng place heauen.

⁷ And Iesua, Baani, Serabiah, Iamin, Acuba, Sebathai, Hodaiah, Maasiah, Celita, Azariah, Iozabed, Hanan, Phalaiah, and the Leuites, caused the people to geue hede vnto the law, & the people stode in theyr place. ⁸ And they red in the boke of the lawe of God distinctly & planely, so the men vnderstode the thinge that was red.

¹⁰ Therfore sayde he vnto them: go youre waye, and eate the fat, and dryncke the swete, and sende parte vnto them also that haue not prepared them selues: for this daye is holye vnto our Lorde, be not ye sory therfore: for the ioye of the Lorde is youre strength.

¹⁵ I was an eye vnto the blinde, and a fote to the lame,

⁵ He that geueth not his money vpon vsury, and taketh no rewarde agaynste the innocent. Who so doth these thinges, shall neuer be remoued.

²⁰ If we had forgotten the name of our God and holden vp oure handes to any straunge God. ²¹ Should not God fynde it out? for he knoweth the very secretes of the herte.

² How long will ye geue wrong iudgement, and accept the personnes of the vngodly? Selah. ³ Defende the poore and fatherlesse, se that suche as be in nede & necessitie haue right. ⁴ Deliuer the outcaste & poore, & saue hym from the hande of the vngodly.

¹ A Psalme of praise. O be ioiful in God (al ye landes) ² serue the Lorde with gladnes, come before his presence wyth ioye.

²¹ Thou rebukest the proud, cursed are they that departe from thy commaundementes.

¹¹ if they entise the, & say: come with vs, let vs leye wayte for bloud, and lurke preuely for the innocent without a cause: ¹² let vs swalow them vp like the hel, let vs deuour them quicke & whole, as those that go doune into the pyt. ¹³ So shal we finde al maner of costely riches, & fil our houses wt spoiles. ¹⁴ Cast in thy lot among vs, we shall haue all one purse. ¹⁵ My sonne, walke not thou with them, refrayn thy fote from their ways. ¹⁶ For their fete runne to euel, & are hasty to shed bloud. ¹⁷ But in vayn is the net laied forth before the byrdes eyes. ¹⁸ Yea, they themselfes laye wayte one for anothers bloud, & one of them wolde sley another. ¹⁹ These are the ways of all suche as be couetous, that one wolde rauish anothers life. ²⁰ Wisdome crieth without, & putteth forth her voyce in the stretes. ²¹ She calleth before the congregacion in the open gates, & sheweth her wordes thorow the citie, saying: ²² O ye chyldren, how longe will ye loue chyldyshnesse? how long wil the, scorners delite in scorning & the vnwise be enemies vnto knowlege? ²³ O turne you vnto my correccion: lo. I wil expres my mynde vnto you, & make you vnderstande my wordes. ²⁴ Seing then that I haue called & ye refused it: I haue stretched out my hand, & no man regarded it, ²⁵ but all my counsayls haue ye despysed, & set my corrections at naught. ²⁶ Therfore shall I also laugh in your destruccion, & mocke you, when the thyng that ye feare cometh vpon you: ²⁷ euen when the thing that ye be afrayed of, falleth in sodenly lyke a storme, & your miseri like a tempest: yea, when trouble & heuinesse commeth vpon you. ²⁸ Then shal they call vpon me, but I will not heare: they shal seke me early, but thei shal not find me: ²⁹ And that because thei hated knowlege, & receyued not the feare of the Lord,

²³ The vngodlye taketh gyftes out of the bosome, to wrest the waies of iudgment.

²⁸ Thou shalte not remoue the lande marke, which thy fore elders haue sette.

¹⁰ Remoue not the olde lande marke, and come not within the feld of the fatherles ¹¹ For he that delyuereth them is myghty, euen he shall defend their cause agaynste the.

¹⁰ Who so leadeth the ryghtuous into an euel waye, shal fal into his owne pit, but, the iust shall haue the good in possession.

¹¹ He that bringeth vp an euell reporte vpon the generacion of hys father and mother, is not worthy to be commended. ¹² The generacion that thynke them selfes cleane, shall not be clensed from their filthynesse. ¹³ There are people that haue a proude loke, and cast vp their eye lyddes. ¹⁴ This peoples teth are swerdes, and with their chafte bones they consume and deuour the simple of the earth, and the poore from among men. ¹⁵ This generacion (whiche is lyke an horslech) hath two daughters: the one is called, fetch hither, and the other bring hyther. ¹⁶ There be thre thinges that are neuer satisfied, and the forth sayeth neuer hoo. The hell, a womans wombe, and the earthe hath neuer water ynough. As for fyre, it sayeth neuer, hoo. ¹⁷ Who so laugheth hys father to scorne, and setteth his mothers commaundement at naughte: the rauens pycke out hys eyes in the valley, and deuoured be he of the yonge Aegles.

⁵ lest they beyng dronken forget the law, & regarde not the cause of the poore, and of al such as be in aduersite.

³ Therefore wt ioye shal ye drawe water out of the welles of the Sauioure,

⁹ Wherfore all caruers of Idoles are but vayne, & their labour lost. They must beare recorde them selues, that (seyng they came nether se ner vnderstande) they shalbe confounded. ¹⁰ Who shulde now make a God, or fashion an Idole, that is profytable for nothynge?

¹⁷ And of the resydue he maketh hym a God, and an Idole for hym selfe. He kneleth before it, he worshyppeth it, he prayeth vnto it, and sayeth: deliuer me, for thou art my God.

¹⁹ They pondre not in their myndes, for they haue nether knowledge ner vnderstandyng, to thyncke thus: I haue brent one pece in the fyre: I haue baked bred with the coles there of, I haue rosted flesh with all, & eaten it: shall I now of the resydue make an abhomynacyon, & fall downe before a rotten pece of wodd?

¹⁰ For hys watch men are al blind, they haue altogether no vnderstandyng, they are al domme dogges, not beyng able to barcke, they are slepery: slogish are they, & lye snortynge:

³ that I might geue vnto them that mourne in Sion bewtye in the steade of ashes, ioyful oyntment for syghing, pleasaunt rayment for an heauy mynde: That they might be called excellente in ryghteousnesse, a plantinge of the Lord for hym to reioyce in.

¹⁰ And therfore I am ioyful in the Lorde, and my soule reioyseth in my God. For he shall put vpon me the garment of health, & couer me with the mantle of righteousnes. He shal decke me lyke a brydegrom, and as a bryde that hath her apparell vpon her.

³ And saye thou vnto them: Thus sayth the Lorde God of Israell. Cursed be euerye one that is not obedient vnto the wordes of this couenaunt:

Then aunswered I, and sayd: Amen. It is euen so Lorde, as thou sayest.

²⁴ Maye eny man hyde hym self so, that I shal not se him? sayeth the Lorde. Do not I fulfyll heauen and earth? sayeth the Lorde.

⁶ And the Prophet Ieremye sayd: Amen: the Lord do that, & graunt the thynge, whiche thou hast prophecyed: that he maye brynge agayne all the ornamentes of the Lordes house, and restore all the presonners from Babylon into the place.

³¹ Beholde, the dayes come (sayeth the Lord) that I wil make a newe couenaunt with the house of Israell & with the house of Iuda: ³² not after the couenaunte that I made wyth theyr fathers, when I toke them by the hande, and led them oute of the lande of Egypte: whiche couenaunte they brake, wherfore I punyshed them sore, sayeth the Lorde: ³³ But thys shall be the couenaunte that I wyll make with the house of Israel after those dayes, sayeth the Lorde: I wyll plante my lawe in the inwarde partes of them, & wryte it in theyr hertes, and wilbe theyr God, and they shalbe my people.

²² & hast geuen them this lande, lyke as thou hast promysed vnto their fathers: Namely, that thou wouldest geue them a land, that floweth with mylcke and honye.

²⁰ because they made therof not only costly Ieweles for their pompe and pryde, but also abhomynable ymages and Idoles. For this cause wyll I make them to be abhorred.

⁷ And with that broughte he me to the courtegate, & when I loked, beholde, there was an hole in the wal. ⁸ Then sayd he vnto me: Thou sonne of man, dygge thorowe the wall. And when I dygged thorow the wal, behold, ther was a dore. ⁹ And he sayde vnto me: Go thy waye in, & loke what wycked abhomynacions they do there. ¹⁰ So I wente in, & sawe: and beholde, there were all maner ymages of wormes & beastes, all Idoles and abhominacions of the house of Israel paynted euery one round aboute the wall. ¹¹ There stode also before the ymages .lxx. lordes of the councell of the house of Israel, and in the myddeste of them stode Iaazamah the sonne of Saphan: and euerye one of them had a censoure in hys hande, and out of the incense, there wente a smoke, as it had bene a cloude. ¹² Then sayde he vnto me: Thou sonne of man, haste thou sene what the Senatoures of the house of Israel do secretly euerye one in hys chambre: For they saye: Tush, the Lorde seyth vs not, the Lord regardeth not the worlde.

¹⁹ And I wil geue you one herte, and I wyll plante a newe sprete wythin youre bowels. That stony herte wyll I take oute of youre body, & geue you a fleshy herte:

⁴ Therfore speake vnto them, & saye: Thus sayth the Lorde God. Euerye man of the house of Israell that beareth hys Idols in his herte, purposynge to stomble in hys owne wickednesse, and commeth to a Prophete, to enquere any thynge at me by hym: vnto that man will I the Lorde my self geue aunswere, accordynge to the multytude of hys Idoles,

²⁴ Agayne, yf the righteous turne awaye from his righteousnes, and do iniquytie, according to all the abhomynacyons, that the wycked man doth: shal he lyue? Al the ryghteousnes that he hath done, shal not be thought vpon: but in the faute that he hath offended withall and in the synne that he hath done, he shall dye.

⁷ In the haue they dispysed father & mother, in the haue they oppressed the straunger, in the haue they vexed the widdowe and the fatherlesse.

¹⁰ In the haue they discouered their fathers shame, in the haue they vexed wemen in their sicknesse. ¹¹ Euery man hath dealte shamefully wyth hys neyghboures wyfe, and abhomynably defiled his doughter in law. In the hath euery man forced his owne syster, euen his fathers doughter: ¹² yea gyftes haue bene receyued in the, to shede bloude. Thou haste taken vsury and encreace, thou haste oppressed thy neyghbours by extorcion, and forgotten me, sayeth the Lorde God. ¹³ Beholde, I haue smitten my handes vpon thy couetousnesse, that thou hast vsed, and vpon the bloude whyche hath bene shed in the.

²⁶ A new herte also will I geue you, and a new sprete wyll I put into you: As for that stony herte, I wyll take it out of youre body, & geue you a fleshly herte.

¹¹ yea all Israel haue transgressed, & gone back from thy law, so that they haue not herckened vnto thy voyce. Wherfore the cursse & othe, that is written in the lawe of Moses the seruaunte of God (agaynst whom we haue offended) is poured vpon vs.

³¹ He shall set myghty men to vnhalowe the Sanctuary of strength, to put doune the daylye offerynge, and to set vp the abhomynable desolacyon.

² And now they synne more and more: of their syluer, they make them molten Images, lyke the Idoles of the Heathen, and yet al is nothinge but the worcke of the craftesmre. Notwithstandinge they preach of the same: who so wil kisse the calues, offreth to men. ³ Therfore they shalbe as the morning cloud, & as the dew that early passeth away, & lyke as dust that the wynde taketh awaye from the floure, and as smoke that goeth oute of the chymney.

⁷ They treade vpon poore mens heades, in the duste of the earthe, & croke the wayes of the meke. The sonne and the father go to the harlot, to dyshonoure thy holye name,

⁹ O heare this ye rulers of the house of Iacob, and ye iudges of the house of Israell: ye that abhorre the thynge that is laufull, and wrayst asyde the thynge that is streyght. ¹⁰ Ye that buylde vp Syon wyth bloude, and Ierusalem wyth doynge wronge. ¹¹ O ye iudges, ye geue sentence for gyftes: O ye preastes, ye teach for lucre: O ye Prophetes, ye prophecy for monye. Yet wyll they be taken as those that holde vpon God, and saye: Is not the Lorde amonge vs? Tushe, there can no mysfortune happen vs.

⁵ Therfore, where as all the people haue walcked euery man in the name of hys owne God, we wyll walcke in the name of oure God for euer and euer.

⁸ I wyll shewe the, O man, what is good, & what the Lorde requyreth of the: Namely, to do right, to haue pleasure in louynge kyndnesse, to be lowlye, and to walcke wyth thy God:

² There is not a godlye man vpon earth, there is not one ryghtuous amonge men. They laboure al to shed bloud, and euery man hunteth his brother to death: ³ yet they saye: they do well, when they do euil. As the prince wyll, so sayeth the iudge: that he maye do him a pleasure agayne. The greate man speaketh what his herte desyreth: & the hearers alowe hym.

² But the Lord aunswered me, and sayde: Wryte the vysyon planely vpon thy tables, that who so cometh by, maye rede it,

¹⁸ But as for me, I wyll be glad in the Lorde, and wyll reioyce in God my sauyoure.

⁷ For the priestes lippes should be sure knowledge, that men may seke the lawe at his mouth: for he is a messaunger of the lorde of hostes. ⁸ But as for you, ye are gone cleane out of the waye, & haue caused the multitude to be offended at the lawe: ye haue broken the couenaunt of Leui, sayeth the Lord of hostes. ⁹ Therfore wil I also make you to be despised, and to be of no reputacion among al the people, because ye haue not kepte my wayes, but bene parcial in the lawe.

⁵ I wil come and punish you, and I my selfe will be a swyf wytnes against the witches, agaynst the aduouterers, agaynste false swearers: yea, and agaynst those, that wrongeouslye kepe backe the hyrelinges dewtye: which vexe the widdowes and the fatherlesse and oppresse the straunger, and feare not me, sayeth the Lord of Hostes.

⁴⁸ Ye shall therfore be perfect, euen as your father which is in heauen, is perfect.

¹³ And lead vs not into temptaciou. But delyuer vs from euyll. For thyne is the kingdome and the power, and the glorye for euer Amen.

⁴ For God commaunded saying: honoure thy father and mother, and he that curseth father or mother shall suffre death. ⁵ But ye saye, euery man shal say to hys father or mother: that which thou desirest of me to helpe the with: is geuen to God, ⁶ and so shall he not honour hys father or mother. And thus haue ye made, that the commaundement of God is without effecte, thorow your tradicions.

¹⁴ Let them alone, thei be the blynde leaders of the blynd. If the blynd leede the blynde, both shall fall into the dytche.

¹⁵ When ye therfore shall se the abhomination that betokeneth desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophete, stande in the holye place (let hym that readeth it, vnderstande it)

⁴¹ Then shall the kinge saye vnto them that shalbe on the lyfte hande. Departe from me ye cursed, into euerlastinge fyre, which is prepared for the deuyll and hys angels.

¹⁵ and sayd: What wyll ye geue me, and I wyll delyuer him vnto you? And they appoynted vnto him thyrtye peces of syluer.

³ Then when Iudas whiche betrayed him, saw that he was condemned, he repented him selfe, and brought agayne the .xxx. plates of syluer to the chiefe priestes and elders ⁴ saying: I haue synned betrayinge the innocent bloud. And they sayde: what is that to vs? Se thou to that.

²⁸ But he sayde: Yea, happye are they that heare the worde of God, and kepe it.

¹⁴ Ye are my frendes, yf ye do whatsoeuer I commaunde you.

²⁵ These thynges haue I spoken vnto you in prouerbes. The tyme will come when I shall no more speake to you in prouerbes: but I shall shewe you plainly from my father.

¹⁸ And the same hath now possessed a plot of grounde with the rewarde of iniquitie, and when he was hanged, brast a sondre in the myddes. and all his bowels gushed out.

³⁶ Ye knowe the preachinge that God sent vnto the chyldren of Israel, preachynge peace by Iesus Christe, whiche is Lorde ouer all thinges.

¹⁹ Yea and we knowe that whatsoeuer the law sayeth, he saith it to them which are vnder the lawe. That all mouthes maye be stopped, and all the world be subdued to God, ²⁰ because that by the dedes of the lawe, shall no fleshe be iustifyed in the syght of God. For by the lawe commeth the knoweledge of synne.

¹ Because therfore that we are iustifyed by fayeth we are at peace wyth God thorowe oure Lorde Iesus Christe

¹⁰ For yf when we were enemyes, we were reconciled to God by the death of hys sonne muche more, seynge we are reconciled, we shall be preserued by his lyfe.

¹⁷ God be thanked that though ye were ones the seruauntes of synne ye haue yet obeyed with herte vnto the forme of doctrine wherunto ye were delyuered. ¹⁸ Ye are then made fre from sinne, & are become the seruauntes of rightuousnes.

²² But nowe are ye deliuered from synne, and made the seruauntes of God, and haue youre fruyte that ye shoulde be sanctified, & the ende euerlastynge lyfe.

⁵ Moyses descrybeth the ryghtuousnes whiche cometh of the lawe, howe that the man which doeth the thynges of the lawe, shal liue therein.

¹ There goeth a commen, saiynge: that there is fornicacion amonge you, and such fornication as is not ones named amonge the Gentiles: that one should haue his fathers wyfe.

⁹ Do ye not remembre, howe that the vnrightuous shall not inheret the kyngdome of God? Be not deceyued. For neither fornicatours, neither worshipers of ymages, neither whormongers, neyther weaklinges, neither abusers of them selues wyth the mankynde, ¹⁰ neither theues, neythe couetous, neither dronkardes, neither cursed speakers, neither pyllars, shall inherete the kyngedome of God. ¹¹ And suche were ye verelye, but ye are washed, ye are sanctifyed, ye are iustifyed by the name of the Lorde Iesus, and by the spyryte of our God.

¹⁶ For els when thou blessest with the spirite howe shal he that occupieth the roume of the vnlearned saye amen at thy geuynge of thankes, saynge: he vnderstandeth not what thou sayeste?

²² Yf anye man loue not the Lorde Iesus Christ the same be anathema maranatha.

² Ye are oure Epistle wrytten in oure hertes, which is vnderstande and read of, all men, ³ in that ye are knowen, howe that ye are the Epistle of Christe, ministred by vs and writen, not wyth ynke, but wyth the spirite of the lyuyng God, not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the herte.

¹² Seynge then that we haue suche trust, we vse great boldnes,

¹⁰ For as many as are vnder the dedes of the lawe, are vnder malediccyon. For it is wrytten: cursed is euery man that contynueth not in all thynges, whiche are wrytten in the boke of the law, to fulfyll them.

¹⁶ and to reconcile both vnto God in one body thorowe his crosse, and slew hatered therby: ¹⁷ and came and preached peace to you, whiche were a farre of, and to them that were nygh.

¹⁷ Thys I saye therfore and testifye in the Lorde, that ye henceforth walke not as other Gentyles walke, in vanitie of theyr mynde, ¹⁸ blynded in theyr vnderstandynge, beynge straungers from the lyfe whiche is in God thorowe the ignoraunce that is in them, because of the blyndnes of theyr hertes: ¹⁹ whiche beyng paste repentaunce, haue geuen them selues vnto wantonnes, to worke al maner of vncleanes, euen wyth gredines. ²⁰ But ye haue not so learned Christ, ²¹ yf so be ye haue heard of hym, and are taughte of hym, euen as the trueth is in Iesu. ²² So then as concernyng the conuersacyon in tyme past, laye from you that olde man, whyche is corrupte thorowe the deceyueable lustes ²³ and be ye renued in the spyrite of your mindes, ²⁴ and put on that newe man, whyche after the Image of God is shapen in ryghteousnes & true holynes.

² and walke in loue euen as Christe loued vs, and gaue hym selfe for vs, an offeringe, and a sacrifice of a swete sauoure to God.

⁸ Ye were ones darckenes, but are nowe lyghte in the Lorde. Walke as chyldren of lyghte. ⁹ For the fruite of the spirite is in all goodnes, ryghtuousnes and trueth.

³ For we are cyrcumcysion, whyche worship God in the spirite, and reioyce in Christe Iesu, and haue no confidence in the fleshe,

⁴ Reioyce in the Lorde alway, and agayne I say reioyce.

²⁰ and by hym to reconcile all thinge vnto him selfe, and to set at peace by him thorowe the bloude of his crosse, both thinges in heauen, and thinges in earth.

¹ Fvrther more we beseche you brethren and exhorte you in the Lord Iesus, that ye increase more and more, euen as ye haue receiued of vs, howe ye oughte to walke and to please God. ² Ye remember what commaundementes we gaue you in oure Lorde Iesu Christ.

⁶ Nowe hath he obtayned a more excellente offyce, in as muche as he is the medyator of a better testamente, whiche was made for better promyses. ⁷ For yf that fyrste testamente had bene faultlesse then shoulde no place haue bene soughte for the seconde. ⁸ For in rebukyng them he sayth: beholde the dayes wyll come (sayeth the Lorde) and I wyll fynyshe vpon the house of Israel, and vpon the house of Iuda, ⁹ a newe testamente: not lyke the testament that I made wyth theyr fathers at that tyme when I toke them by the handes, to leade them oute of the lande of Egypte, for they continued not in my testamente, and I regarded them not sayth the Lorde. ¹⁰ For thys is the testament that I will make wyth the house of Israel: After those dayes sayth the Lorde: I wyl put my lawes in their myndes, and in theyr hertes I wyl wryte them and I wyll be theyr God, and they shall be my people.

²⁰ The God of peace that brought agayne from death oure Lorde Iesus, the great shepe herde of the shepe, thorowe the bloude of the euerlastynge testament, ²¹ make you perfecte in all good workes, to do hys wyl, workynge in you that whiche is pleasaunte in hys syghte thorowe Iesus Christe. To whom be prayse for euer whyle the worlde endureth. Amen.

¹⁰ Whosoeuer shall kepe the whole lawe, and yet fayle in one point he is gyltye in all.

¹⁴ as obedyent chyldren not fashyonynge youre selues vnto your old lustes of ignorauncye: ¹⁵ but as he whiche called you is holye, euen so be ye holy in all maner of conuersacyon, ¹⁶ because it is wrytten. Be ye holy, for I am holy.

¹⁰ whiche in tyme past were not vnder mercye, but nowe haue obtayned mercye. ¹¹ Dearely beloued, I beseche you as straungers and pylgremes, obstayne from fleshely lustes, which fyght agaynste the soule,

¹ For as much as Christ hath suffred for vs in the fleshe, arme your selues lykewise wyth the same mynde: for he which suffereth in the fleshe ceaseth from synne, ² that he hence forwarde shoulde lyue as muche tyme as remayneth in the fleshe, not after the iustes of men, but after the wyl of God. ³ For it is sufficient for vs, that we haue spent the time that is past of the lyfe, after the wil of the Gentiles, walking in wantonnes, lustes, dronckennes, in eatinge, drinkinge & in abominable Idolatrie.

¹⁴ But I haue a fewe thinges against the, that thou hast there, them that maintaine the doctryne of Balam, whiche taught in Balake, to put occasyon of synne before the chyldren of Israel, that they shoulde eate of meate dedicate vnto ydoles & committe fornicacion.

⁴ And the woman was arayed in purple & rose coloure, and decked wyth golde, precious stones and pearles, and had a cuppe of golde in her hand full of al abominacions and fylthines of her fornicacion. ⁵ And in her forhead was a name wrytten, a mystery, great Babylon the mother of whoredome and abominacions of the earth.
