¹ And at the last the worde of the Lorde came to Eliah the thyrde yeare sayinge: go, shewe thy self vnto Ahab, that I may sende raine vpon the earthe. ² And Eliah went to shew him self vnto Ahab for there was a great famishement in Samaria. ³ Wherfore Ahab called Abdiah the gouerner of hys house: whyche Abdiah feared God greatlye: ⁴ in so muche that when Iezabel destroyed the Prophetes of the Lorde, he toke an hundred of the Prophetes and hyd them, fyftye in one caue, and fyftye in another, and prouyded breade and water for them. ⁵ And Ahab sayde vnto Abdiah: walke thorow the lande, vnto al fountaynes of water and vnto all brokes, to se whether any grasse maye be founde, that we maye saue the horses and the Mules, that we destroye not the beastes. ⁶ And they deuyded the lande betwene them to walke thorow it. Ahab went one way by hym selfe, and Abdiah went another by hym selfe. ⁷ And it chaunced as Abdiah went in the waye that Eliah met him. And Abdiah knew hym and fell on his face and sayde: arte not thou my Lorde Eliah. ⁸ And he said vnto him: I am he. Go, and tel Ahab that Eliah is here. ⁹ And the other answered: what haue I synned that thou wouldest delyuer me into the hande of Ahab, to sley me? ¹⁰ As surely as the Lorde thy God lyueth, there is no nacyon or kyngedome, whether my Lord hath not sent, to seke the. And when they saide thou wast not there he toke an othe of the kyngedome & nacyon, because he founde the not. ¹¹ And now thou sayest: go and tell, thy Lord Eliah is here. ¹² And as sone as I am gone from the, the spyryte of the Lorde shal cary the away, whether I shall not knowe, and then I haue gone and tolde Ahab, and then he can not fynde the, he shall sley me. And yet I thy seruaunt haue feared the Lorde from my younge age. ¹³ Was it not tolde my Lorde, what I dyd, when Iezabel slue the Prophetes of the Lorde how I hydde an hundred of the Lordes Prophetes, fyfty in one caue and as many in another, & prouyded them of breade and water? ¹⁴ And yet now thou sayest, go shewe thy Lorde, that Eliah is here, that he shoulde sley me. ¹⁵ Then Eliah sayde: as truly as the Lorde of Hostes lyueth, before whom I stande: I wil shewe my selfe vnto hym thys day. ¹⁶ And thervpon Abdiah went to Ahab and told him. And Ahab went agaynst Eliah. ¹⁷ And when Ahab sawe Eliah, he sayd vnto hym: art thou he that troubleth Israel? ¹⁸ And he sayde: it is not I that trouble Israel, but thou and thy fathers house, in that ye haue forsaken the commaundementes of the Lord, and hast folowed Baal. ¹⁹ But now sende and gather to me all Israel vnto mount Carmel and the Prophetes of Baal foure hundred and fyfty, and the Prophetes of the groues four hundred, which eate of Iezabels table. ²⁰ And Ahab sent for all the children of Israel and gathered the prophetes vnto mount Carmel. ²¹ And Eliah came vnto all the people and sayde: why halte ye betwene two opinions? Yf the Lorde be very God, folowe him: or yf Baal be he, then folowe hym. And the people answered him not one worde. ²² Then sayde Eliah vnto the people: I only remayne of the Lordes Prophetes, & Baals Prophetes are foure hundred and fyftye. ²³ Let two oxen be geuen vs, and let them chose the one and cutte hym in peces and lay him on wood, and put no fyre vnder. And I wyll dresse the other & put him on wood, and wil put no fyre vnder. ²⁴ And call ye on the name of youre God, and I wil cal on the name of the Lorde. And then the God that answereth by fyre, he is the very God. And al the people sayde: it is wel spoken. ²⁵ Then sayde Eliah vnto the Prophetes of Baal: chose you an oxe and dresse him fyrst (for ye are many) and call on the name of youre God, but put no fyre vnder. ²⁶ And they toke the oxe that was geuen them and dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from mournynge to none sayinge: O Baal heare vs. But there was no voyce nor answere. And they lepte aboute the aulter that they had made. ²⁷ And at none Eliah mocked them and sayd: call loud, (for he is a God: but he is talking or occupied or in the waye, or happely he slepeth) that he may awake. ²⁸ And they cryed loud, and cut them selues, as their maner was, wyth knyues & launcers, tyl the bloude folowed on them. ²⁹ And when midday was passed, they prophesyed vntil it was time to offer. But there was neyther voyce nor answere nor any that regarded them. ³⁰ Then Eliah sayde to all the folke: come to me. And all the people came to hym. And he mended the aulter of the Lorde that was broken. ³¹ And he toke .xij. stones accordynge to the nombre of the .xij. trybes of the sonnes of Iacob, vnto whom the word of the lord came sayinge: Israel shalbe thy name. ³² And wyth the stones he made an aultare in the name of the Lord. And he made a gutter round about the aulter, able to receyue two peckes of corne. ³³ And he put the wood in order, and hewed the oxe in peces, and put hym on the wood, and sayde: fyl foure pytchers with water, and powre it on the sacrifice and on the wood. ³⁴ And he said: do so againe. And they dyd so againe. Then he sayde: do it the thyrde tyme. And they dyd so the thirde tyme. ³⁵ And the water ranne round about the aultare, and the gutter was full of water also. ³⁶ And when offeringe time was come, Eliah the prophete went to and sayde: Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and of Israel, let it be knowen thys daye, that thou art the God in Israel, and that I am thy seruaunt, and that I do al these thinges at thy commaundement. ³⁷ Heare me O lorde, heare me, that this people may know, that thou lord, art the God, and that thou hast turned their hertes backward. ³⁸ And there fell fire from the Lorde, and consumed the sacryfice & the wood and the stones & the dust, & lycked vp the water that was in the gutter. ³⁹ And when all the people sawe that, they fel on theyr faces & sayde: the Lorde he is God, the lord he is God. ⁴⁰ Then sayd Eliah vnto them: lay handes on the Prophetes of Baal, let not one of them escape. And when they had taken them, Eliah brought them doune vnto the broke of Kison, and slue them there. ⁴¹ Then Eliah sayde vnto Ahab, get the vp, and eate and dryncke, for ther is a sound of muche rayne. ⁴² And when Ahab went vp to eate & to dryncke, Eliah went vp to the toppe of mount Carmel. And bowed hym selfe to the earthe, & put hys face betwene hys knees, ⁴³ and sayd to hys seruaunt: go vp and loke towarde the sea. And he went vp and loked, and saide: here is nothing. And he sayd: go agayn .vij. tymes. ⁴⁴ And the seuenth time he sayde: beholde, there aryseth a lytle cloude out of the sea, lyke the palme of a mannes hande. Then he sayde: go and saye to Ahab, put the horsses in the charet, and get the doune that the rayne stoppe the not. ⁴⁵ And within a lytle whyle, heauen was blacke wyth cloudes and winde, and there was a great rayne. And Ahab rode and went to Iezrahel. ⁴⁶ And the hande of the Lorde was on Eliah, and he gyrdled vp hys loynes and ranne before Ahab, tyl they came to Iezrahel.

¹ Thus was heauen and erth fynyshed with all their apparel,

¹⁷ When the sonne was downe and it was waxed darcke: beholde, ther was a smokyng furnesse, and a fyrebrand that went betwene the sayde peces.

² And he lyfte vp hys eyes and looked: & lo, thre men stode not farre from him. And when he sawe them, he ran to mete them from the tent dore, & fel to the ground

¹² And Sara laughed in her selfe sayinge: Now I am waxed olde, shall I geue my self to lust, and my Lorde olde also?

⁴ But Abimelech had not yet come nye her, & therfore sayde: Lorde wylt thou sley ryghtewes people? ⁵ sayde not he vnto me, that she was hys syster? yea and sayde not she herself that he was her brother? wyth a pure herte and innocent handes haue I done thys.

⁹ And when they came vnto the place whych God shewed hym, Abraham made an aulter there & dressed the wood, & bounde Isaac his sonne & layde him on the aulter, aboue vpon the wood.

¹² And he sayde: laye not thy handes vpon the chylde, nether do any thyng at all vnto him, for now I know that thou fearest God, in that thou hast not kepte thyne only sonne from me.

¹⁰ And the seruaunt toke .x. camels of the camels of his mayster & departed, & had of all maner goodes of his master with him, & stode vp & went to Mesopotamia, vnto the cytie of Nahor.

⁵⁰ Then answered Laban & Bethuel saying: The thing is proceaded euen out of the Lord, we can not therfore say vnto the, either good or bad:

⁵² And when Abrahams seruaunt hearde theyr wordes, he bowed him selfe vnto the Lorde, flatte vpon the earth.

²⁴ And the Lorde appeared vnto hym the same nyght, & sayd: I am the God of Abraham thy father, feare not for I am wyth the, and wyll blesse the, and multiply thy sede for my seruaunt Abrahams sake.

⁵³ The God of Abraham, the God of Nahor, & the God of their fathers be Iudge betwyxt vs. And Iacob sware by him that his father Isaac feared.

⁹ And Iacob said: O god of mi father Abraham, & God of my father Isaac: Lord whiche saydest vnto me, returne vnto thy countrye & to thy kynred, & I wyll do all well with the.

²⁴ & taried behind hym selfe alone. And ther wresteled a man wyth him vnto the breaking of the day.

²⁶ And he said: let me goo, for the day breaketh. And he said: I wyll not lette the go, excepte thou blesse me.

²⁸ And he said: thou shalt be called Iacob no more, but Israel. For thou hast wresteled with God and hast preuayled.

²⁰ And he made ther an aulter, & there called vpon the myghty God of Israel.

¹⁰ & saied vnto him: thy name is Iacob. Notwithstandinge thou shalt be no more called Iacob, but Israell shall be thy name. And so was hys name called Israell.

⁴ Wherfore he founde grace in his masters syghte, and serued him. And hys mayster made hym ruelar of hys house, and put al that he had in hys hand. ⁵ And as soone as he had made him ruelar ouer his house & ouer al that he had, the Lorde blessed this Egyptians house for Ioseps sake, and the blessynge of the Lorde was vpon all that he had: both in the house & also in the feldes.

⁹ He him selfe is not greater in the house than I, and hath kepte nothyng from me, but only the because thou art hys wyfe. How than can I do thys great wykydnes, for to synne agaynst God?

⁴⁰ Thou therfore shalt be ouer my house, and acordyng to thy worde shall al my people obeye: only in the kynges seate wyll I be aboue the.

¹⁸ And Ioseph said vnto them the thyrd day: Thys do and lyue, for I feare God.

¹⁶ Then sayde Iuda: what shall we saye vnto my Lorde, what shall we speake or what excuse can we make? God hath founde out the wekednesse of thy seruauntes. Behold, both we and he wt whom the cuppe is founde, are thy seruauntes.

²⁰ And we answered my Lord, we haue a father that is olde, & a yonge lad which he begat in his age: and the brother of the sayd lad is dead, & he is al that is left of that mother. And his father loueth him.

³³ Nowe therfore let me thy seruaunt byde here for the lad, and be my Lordes bondman: and let the lad goo home with hys brethren.

³ And he sayde: I am the myghtie God of thy father, feare not to goo doune in to Egypte. For I wyl make of the a great people.

¹⁸ And his brethren came and fel before hym and sayd: beholde we be thy seruauntes.

⁶ And he sayed: I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob. And Moses hyd hys face for he was afrayed to loke vpon God.

¹⁵ And God spake further vnto Moyses: thus shalt thou say vnto the children of Israel: the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, & the God of Iacob hath sent me vnto you: this is my name for euer, and thys is my memorial thorowout al generations. ¹⁶ Goo therfore & gather the elders of Israell togyther, & say vnto them: the Lorde God of youre fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob appeared vnto me, and sayed. I haue bene and sene both you and that which is done to you in Egypte.

¹ Then Moses & Aaron went & told Pharao, thus saieth the Lorde God of Israel. Let my people go, that they maye kepe holye day vnto me in the wildernes. ² And Pharao answered: what felowe is the Lorde, that I should heare hys voyce for to let Israell go?

²¹ and sayd vnto them. The Lorde loke vnto you and iudge, for ye haue made the fauour of vs stynke in the syght of Pharao, and of his seruauntes, and haue put a swerd into their handes to slea vs.

²⁴ An aulter of erth thou shalte make vnto me and thereon offer thy burntofferynges & thy peace offeringes, and thy shepe and thyne oxen. And in all places where I shall put the remembraunce of my name, thither I will come vnto the & blesse the. ²⁵ But and if thou wilt make me an aulter of stone, se thou make it not of hewed stone, for if thou lift vp thy tole vpon it, thou shalt polute it.

⁴ Then Moyses wrote all the wordes of the Lorde & rose vp early and made an aulter vnder the hyl, & .xij. pyllers according to the numbre of the .xij. trybes of Israell,

³⁹ the one thou shalte offer in the mornynge and the other at euen.

²⁴ And there came a fyre out from before the Lord, & consumed vpon the alter the burntofferyng and the fatt. And all the people sawe it, and showted, and fell on theyr faces.

²⁸ Ye shall not rent your fleshe for any soules sake, nor prynte any markes vpon you: I am the Lord:

⁴ then I wyll send you reyne in the ryght season & youre lande shall yelde hyr encrease and the trees of the fyeld shal gyue thyr fruite.

²⁶ And when I haue broken the staffe of your bread: that .x. wyues shall bake your breade in one ouen and men shall deliuer you youre bread agayne by wayght, then shall ye eate and not be satisfied.

¹¹ he sayde vnto Moses: Oh I beseche the my Lord, put not the synne vpon vs which we haue folishly committed and synned.

²⁸ And Moses sayed hereby ye shall knowe that the Lorde hath sente me, to do all these worckes, & that I haue not done them of mine own mynd: ²⁹ If these men dye the commen death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men, then the Lorde hathe not sent me. ³⁰ But and if the Lorde make a newe thyng, and the earth open hyr mouth & swalowe theim, and all that pertayne vnto them, so that they go downe quicke vnto hel: then ye shal vnderstand, that these men haue rayled vpon the Lord.

⁸ & went after the man of Israel into the hore house and thrust them thorow: both the man of Israel and also the woman euen thorowe the bealy of hyr. And the plage ceased from the children of Israel.

³⁸ But Iosua the sonne of Nun which standeth before the, he shall go in thither. Bolden hym therfore for he shal deuyde the herytage vnto Israell.

¹⁹ Yea, & least thou lyfte vp thyne eye vnto heauen, & when thou seist the sunne and the mone and the starres and whatsoeuer is contained in heauen, shouldest be deceyued and shouldest bowe thy selfe to them and serue the thynges whych the Lord thy God hathe distributed vnto all nations that are vnder al quarters of heauen.

³⁵ Vnto the it was shewed, that thou mightest know, howe that the lorde he is God & that there is none but he.

⁵ And the prophete or dreamer of dreames shal dye for it bicause he hath spoken to turne you away from the Lorde your God whyche brought you out of the land of Egipt & deliuered you out of the house of bondage, to thrust the out of the waye whiche the Lord thy God commaunded the to walke in: and so thou shalte put euyl away from the.

¹ Ye are the chyldren of the lord your God, cut not your selues nor make you anye baldenesse betwene the eies for any mannes deth.

²⁰ But the prophete which shall presume to speake ought in my name whych I commaunded not to speake, and he that speaketh in the name of straunge goddes, the same prophete shal dye.

¹² The Lord shall open vnto the hys good treasure, euen the heauen, to geue rayne vnto thy lande in due ceason and to blesse al the laboures of thyne hande. And thou shalt lende vnto many nacions, but shalt not nede to borowe thy selfe.

²³ And the heauen that is ouer thy head shalbe brasse, & the erthe that is vnder the, yeron. ²⁴ And the Lorde shall turne the rayne of the land vnto powder & dust: euen from heauen they shall come doune vpon the, vntyll thou be brought to nought.

³ euen out of the place where the priestes stode in readines .xij. stones. And take ye them away wyth you & put them in the place where you lodge at nyght. ⁴ And Iosua called vnto the twelue men whiche he had prepared of the chyldren of Israel, of euery trybe a man,

⁶ And Iosua rent hys clothes, and fell to the earth vpon hys face before the arcke of the Lorde vntyll the euen tyde, bothe he and the elders of Israel, and put earth vpon their heades.

²⁵ And Iosua sayde: In as muche as thou hast troubled vs, the Lorde shal trouble the thys daye. And all Israell stoned hym wyth stones, and burnt them wyth fyre, and ouerwhelmed them wyth stones.

¹⁶ Then the chyldren of Ioseph sayde agayn: the hyll wyll not begoten of vs, for al the Cananites, that dwell in the lowe countreye haue charettes of yron, and so haue they that enhabite Bethsean, and the tounes of the same, and they also that dwel in the valeye of Iezreel.

¹⁸ And theyr coastes were Iesraelah, Casuloth, Sunem,

²⁶ Alamelech, Amaad & Miseal, and mette at Carmel on the sea, & at Syhor and at Labanath

¹⁵ But yf it seme euyll vnto you to serue the Lorde, then chose you thys day whom you wyll serue whether the Goddes whiche youre fathers serued that were on the other syde of the floude, eyther the Goddes of the Amorytes in whose lande, ye dwelte, and I & my house wyll serue the Lorde.

²³ Then put awaye, sayde he the straung Goddes which are among you, and bowe your hertes vnto the Lorde God of Israell. ²⁴ And the people aunswered Iosua: the Lorde oure God we wyll serue, & hys voyce we wyl obey.

⁷ And I wyll brynge vnto the ryuer Kyson Sisara, the captayne of warre vnto Iabin, wyth hys charettes, and hys people, and wyll delyuer them into thyne handes.

²¹ The ryuer of Kison caught them awaye: that auncyent ryuer the ryuer Kyson. My soule: treade thou the myghtye vnder fote.

²⁰ And the angell of God sayd vnto hym: take the fleshe and the swete kakes, & put them vpon thys rocke, & powre oute the broth. And he dyd so. ²¹ Then the aungell of the Lord put forth the ende of the staffe that was in his hand, & touched the flesh & the kakes. And there arose vp fyre out of the rocke & consumed the fleshe and the kakes. And the angel of the Lord vanyshed out of his sight.

²⁶ & make an aultare vnto the Lord thy God vpon the toppe of this rocke & furnesshe it. And take the seconde oxe & offer burnt sacryfyce wt the wood of the groue which thou shalt haue cut doune.

²⁰ For when the flamme came vp out of the aultare, the angel of the Lord ascended vp in the flame of the aultare. And Manoah and hys wyfe loked vpon and fell flat on their faces vnto the grounde:

⁴ And on the morow the people rose vp by tyme, and made there an altare, and offered burntofferinges and peace offeringes.

¹⁸ But the ladde Samuel mynystred before the Lord gyrded about wyth a lynen Ephod.

²⁶ The chylde Samuel profyted and grewe, and was in fauoure both wyth the Lorde and also with men.

¹⁹ And Samuel grewe, and the Lorde was with hym, and left none of hys wordes vnparformed. ²⁰ And all Israel from Dan to Bersabe wist that Samuel was trulye made the Lordes Prophete.

⁷ Now therfore make a newe carte and take two mealche kyne, on whose neck neuer came yocke. And tye the kyne in the carte, & brynge the calues whome from them.

¹⁰ And the men dyd euen so: they toke two kyne that gaue milcke, & tyed them in the carte, and kepte the calues at home,

³ And Samuel spake vnto al Israel, saying: yf ye become agayne vnto the Lorde wyth al youre hertes, then put awaye the straunge Goddes from among you, & Astharoth, & prepare your hertes vnto the Lorde, & serue hym alone, & so shal he rydde you out of the handes of the Philistines.

⁹ And Samuel toke a suckyng lambe & offered it all together for a burntofferyng, vnto the Lorde, and cryed vnto the Lord for Israel: & the Lorde hearde him.

¹⁷ & came agayne to Ramath: for there was hys house, and there he iudged Israell, & there he buylt an aultare vnto the Lorde.

¹² And Samuel rose earlye, to mete Saul in the mornynge. And it was tolde Samuel that Saule was come to Carmell, and had set hym vp a pyller of triumphe. And was turned and departed and gone to Galgall.

⁴⁶ This day shal the Lorde delyuer the into my hande, and I shall smyte the and take thyne head from the, and I will geue the karcases of the hoste of the Philistines this day vnto the foules of the ayre and to the beastes of the earth, and al the worlde shal knowe, that there is a God in Israel. ⁴⁷ And al this congregacyon shal know, that the Lorde saueth not wyth the swerde and speare. For the battel is the Lordes, and he shal geue you into oure handes.

¹⁰ And it happened on the morow, that the euyll spirite sente of God came vpon Saul, so that he prophesyed in the myddes of the house. And Dauid played on the instrumente wyth hys hande as he was daylye wont.

⁴¹ And as sone as the lad was gone, Dauid arose out of a place that was to ward the south and fell on hys face to the grounde & bowed hym selfe thre tymes. And they kyssed ether other and wepte together, but Dauid more abundantly.

¹¹ Then the king sent to calle Ahimelech the pryest the sonne of Ahitob, and all hys fathers house, that is to saye, the pryestes that were in Nob. And they came all to the kinge. ¹² And Saul sayde: heare thou sonne of Ahitob. And he sayde: here I am my Lorde. ¹³ Then sayde Saul to hym: why haue ye conspyred against me, thou and the sonne of Isai, in so muche that thou hast geuen hym vitayle and a swerde, and hast asked councell of God for him, that he shoulde aryse against me, and lye awayte as it is come to passe thys daye. ¹⁴ And Ahymelech answered the kynge & sayde: who is so faythfull amonge all thy seruauntes as Dauid & therto the kinges sonne in lawe, and goeth at thy bidding, and is had in honoure in thyne house? ¹⁵ haue I thys daye begonne fyrst to aske councel of God for him? God forbyd that from me: let not the kynge put suche a thinge vnto hys seruaunt and on all the house of my father. For thy seruaunt knoweth nothinge of all thys, ether lesse or more. ¹⁶ But for all that the kynge sayd: thou shalt surely dye Ahimelech, bothe thou and all thy fathers house. ¹⁷ Then sayde the kynge vnto his fote men that stode about hym: turne and sley the priestes of the Lorde, bothe because their hand is with Dauid, and because they knewe when Dauid fled & shewed it not to me. But the seruauntes of the kynge woulde not moue their handes, to runne vpon the priestes of the Lorde. ¹⁸ Then saide the kinge to Doeg: turne thou and smyte the pryestes. And Doeg the Edomite turned and ranne vpon the priestes and slue that same daye foure skore and fyue persones that dyd weare eche man a lynnen Ephod. ¹⁹ And Nob the citie of the pryestes he smote with the edge of the swerde, bothe man and woman, chylde and suckelynge, with oxe asse and shepe.

⁶ Then Achis called Dauid and sayde vnto hym. As sure as the Lorde lyueth thou art honest, and it pleaseth me wel that thou shouldest accompanye me in the host, for I haue founde none euyl with the sence thou camest to me vnto thys daye. Neuerthelesse the Lordes of the Philistines fauoure the not

⁹ and made hym kyng ouer Galaad and ouer the Assurites, & ouer Iesrahel: and ouer Ephraim and Beniamin, and ouer all Israel.

My God I am ashamed, and darre not lyfte vp myne eyes vnto the my God: for our wyckednesses are growne ouer our heade, & oure trespaces are waxen greate vnto the heauen.

¹⁵ For the olde capytaynes that were before me, had bene chargeable vnto the people, and had taken of them bread and wyne, and fourtye sycles of syluer: yea and theyr seruauntes had oppressed the people. But so dyd not I, and that because of the feare of God.

⁸ Who is this kyng of glory? It is the Lorde strong and myghtie, euen the Lorde myghty in batell. ⁹ Open youre gates (O ye princes) let the euerlastynge dores be opened, that the kyng of glory may come in. ¹⁰ Who is this king of glory? It is the Lord of Hoostes, he is the kynge of glorye. Selah.

⁹ Be glad then (O thou yong man) in thy youth, and let thine herte be mery in thy yonge daies: folowe the wayes of thine owne herte, and the luste of thyne eyes: but be thou sure, that God shall brynge the into iudgement for all these thinges.

¹¹ But wo be to the vngodlye & vnryghtuous for they shall be rewarded after theyr worckes.

⁶ I wyl laye it waste, that it shall neyther be twisted nor cut, but beare thornes and breares. I wil also forbydde the cloudes, that they shall not raine vpon it.

³⁸ Afterwarde it chaunsed, as he prayed in the temple of Nesrah hys god, that Adramalech and Sarazer hys owne sonnes slewe hym with the sweard, and fled in to the lande of Ararat. And Asarhadon hys sonne reygned after hym.

⁷ Therfore herken vnto me, ye that haue pleasure in rightuousnes, thou people that bearest my lawe in thyne herte. Feare not the curse of men, be not afrayde of theyr blasphemies & reuylynges: ⁸ for wormes and mothes shal eate them vp lyke cloth and wol. But my ryghtuousnesse shall endure for euer, & my sauinge health from generacion to generacyon, ⁹ Wake vp, wake vp, and be strong: O thou arme of the Lorde: wake vp, lyke as in tymes paste, euer and sence the worlde beganne.

¹² Yea I, I am euen he, that in all thynges geueth you consolacion. What arte thou then, that fearest a mortal man, the chylde of man, whiche goeth awaye as doeth the floure?

Namely, Elnathan the sonne of Achabor, and certayne men with him into Egipte, ²³ whiche fetched Vriah oute of Egypte, and brought hym vnto kyng Iehoakim that slewe hym with the sweard, and caste hys dead bodye into the comon peoples graue.

For verelye I haue committed shamefull thinges: O let my youth beare this reprofe and confusyon.

⁴ Then sayd the princes vnto the king: Syr, we beseche you, let this man to be put to death: For thus he discoraged the handes of the soudyars that be in this cytie, & the handes of al the people, when he speaketh such wordes vnto them. This man verely laboureth not for peace of the people, but mischefe.

Thus sayeth the Lorde God: beholde, I wyll take awaye the chyldren of Israel from amonge the Heathen vnto whom they be gone, & wyll gather them together on euery syde, & bringe them agayne into their owne lande: ²² yee I wyll make one people of them in the lande, vpon the mountaynes of Israell, and they all shall haue but one kynge. They shall no mor be two peoples from henceforth, nether be deuyded in to two kyngdomes:

⁷ I wyll make also the name of my holynesse to be knowne amonge my people of Israell: and I wyll not let my holy name be euell spoken of enymore: but the very Heathen also shal knowe, that I am the Lorde, the holye one of Israell

But ye fayne & dyssemble with vayne wordes, which ye speake before me, to put of the tyme. Therfore tel me the dreame, & so shal I know yf ye can shewe me, what it meaneth. ¹⁰ Vpon this, the Caldees gaue answere before the king, and sayde: there is no man vpon earthe, that can tell the thynge, whiche the kyng speaketh of, yea there is neyther kyng, prynce nor lord, that euer asked suche thynges at a sothsayer, charmer or Caldeer: ¹¹ for it is a very hard matter, that the kynge requyreth. Neither is there any, that can certyfye the kynge therof, except the Goddes: whose dwellyng is not among the creatures. ¹² For the whiche cause the kyng was wroth with greate indignacyon, and commaunded to destroye all the wyse men at Babylon: ¹³ and the proclamacyon wente forthe, that the wyse men shuld be slayne, They sought also to slay Daniel with hys companions.

¹⁹ Then was Nabuchodonosor full of indignacyon, so that the countenaunce of hys face chaunged vpon Sidrach, Misach, and Abednago. Therfor he charged and commaunded, that the ouen shuld be made seuen tymes hoter, then it was wonte to be,

²³ but hast magnyfyed thy selfe aboue the Lorde of heauen, so that the vessels of hys house were broughte before the, that thou, and thy Lordes, with thy quene and concubynes, myght drincke wyne thereoute: And hast praysed the Idoles of syluer and golde, copper and yron, of wode and stone: As for the God in whose hande consysteth thy breth and all thy wayes: thou haste not loaued hym.

¹³ Vpon this I heard one of the sayntes speakinge, whiche saynte sayde vnto one that asked this questyon: How longe shall this vysion of the daylye sacrifice and of the wasting abhominacion endure: that the Sanctuarye and the power shall so be troden vnder fote?

³ and I turned me vnto god the Lorde, for to praye and make myne intercession, with fastinge, sackcloth & ashes,

⁷ O Lorde, ryghteousnesse belongeth vnto the, vnto vs pertayneth nothynge but open shame, as it is come to passe this day vnto euery man of Iuda and to them that dwell at Ierusalem: Yea, vnto all Israell, whether they be farre or nye thorow out all landes: wherin thou haste strowed them, because of the offences that they had done agaynst the.

¹⁷ Now therefore, O oure God, heare the prayer of thy seruaunte, and his intercession. O let not thy face shyne ouer thy Sanctuary that lyeth waste. ¹⁸ O my God, enclyne thine eare, and herken (at the leaste for thine owne sake) open thyne eyes: beholde, how we be desolated, yea and the cytye also, whiche is called after thy name: for we do not cast oure prayers before the in oure owne righteousnesse, no: but onely in thy greate mercyes. ¹⁹ O Lorde, heare. O forgeue Lorde. O Lorde consydre, tarye not ouer longe: but for thyne owne sake do it. O my God: for the citie and thy people is called after thy name.

²¹ yea, whyle I was yet speakinge in my prayer, beholde the man Gabrel (whome I had sene afore in the vision) came flying to me, and touched me about the offeringe time in the eueninge.

As ye haue geuen your members seruauntes to vnclennes and to iniquitie: from iniquitie vnto iniquitie: euen so now geue your membres seruauntes vnto rightuousnes, that ye may be sanctifyed. ²⁰ For when ye were the seruauntes of synne, ye were not vnder rightuousnes. ²¹ What fruit had ye then in those thynges, where of ye are nowe ashamed. For the ende of those thynges is deathe. ²² But nowe are ye deliuered from synne, and made the seruauntes of God, and haue youre fruyte that ye shoulde be sanctified, & the ende euerlastynge lyfe.

⁷ Geue to euerye man therfore hys dutye: Tribute to whom trybute belongeth: Custome to whom custome is due: feare to whome feare belongeth: Honoure to whom honoure pertayneth.

⁴ To speake of meate dedicate vnto Idols, we are sure that there is none Idol in the world and that there is none other God but one.

¹⁹ What saye I then? that the Image is any thinge? or that it whiche is offered to Images is anye thinge? ²⁰ Naye, but I saye, that these thinges, whiche the Gentyles offer, they offer to deuyls, and not to God. And I woulde not that ye should haue felloushippe wt the deuyls. ²¹ Ye can not drinke of the cuppe of the Lorde: and of the cuppe of the deuils. Ye can not be partakers of the Lordes table, and of the table of the deuils. ²² Either shall we prouoke the Lorde? Or are we stronger then he? All thinges are laufull vnto me, but all thinges are not expedient.

¹ There were false prophetes among the people, euen as there shalbe false teachers amonge you, which priuilie shal bringe in damnable sectes, euen denyenge the Lorde that hath bought them and bringe vpon them selues swyft dampnacion, ² and many shal folowe theyr damnable wayes, by whiche the way of trueth shalbe euyl spoken of, ³ and thorowe couetousnes shal they wyth fayned wordes make marchaundyse of you, whose iudgement is not farre of, and theyr dampnacion slepeth not.

⁸ And vnto the angell of the congregacion of Smyrna wryte: These thynges sayeth he that is fyrst, and the last, which was dead & is alyue. ⁹ I knowe thy workes and tribulacion and pouertye, but thou art rych: And I know the blasphemy of them, whiche call them selues Iewes and are not, but are the congregacion of Sathan.

²⁰ Notwithstandinge I haue a fewe thinges against the, that thou sufferest that woman Iesabel, which called her selfe a prophetisse, to teache and to deceyue my seruauntes to make them commit fornicacion, and to eate meates offered vp to Idols.

¹⁵ I knowe thy workes, that thou art neyther colde nor hote. I would thou were colde or hote. ¹⁶ So then because thou arte betwene both, and neyther colde nor hote. I wyll, spewe the out of my mouth:

⁴ And I heard the numbre of them whyche were sealed, and there were sealed an .C. and .xliiij.M. of all tribes of the chyldren of Israell. ⁵ Of the trybe of Iuda were sealed .xij.M. Of the trybe of Ruben were sealed .xij.M. of the trybe of Gad were sealed .xij.M. ⁶ Of the trybe of Asser were sealed .xij. thousand. Of the trybe of Neptalim were sealed twelue thousande. Of the Trybe of Manasses were sealed twelue thousand. ⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelue thousand. Of the tribe of Leuy were sealed .xij. thousande. Of the tribe of Isacar were sealed .xij.M. ⁸ Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelue thousand. Of the tribe of Ioseph were sealed twelue thousand. Of the tribe of Beniamin were sealed twelue thousande.

² and the quyre whiche is wythin the temple caste out and meate it not: for it is geuen vnto the Gentyles and the holy cytye shal they treade vnder fote .xlij. monethes.

⁶ These haue power to shut heauen, that it rayne not in the daies of they: Prophesiyng, and haue power ouer waters to turne them to bloud, and to smyte the earth wyth al maner plages, as often as they will.

⁴ And the woman was arayed in purple & rose coloure, and decked wyth golde, precious stones and pearles, and had a cuppe of golde in her hand full of al abominacions and fylthines of her fornicacion. ⁵ And in her forhead was a name wrytten, a mystery, great Babylon the mother of whoredome and abominacions of the earth. ⁶ And I saw the wyfe drounken with the bloude of Saynctes, and with the bloud of the wytnesses of Iesu. And when I saw her, I wondred wyth great maruayle.

²⁰ And the beast was taken, & with hym that false prophete that wrought miracles before him with which he deceyued them that receiued the beastes marke, & them that worshipped his Image These both were cast into a ponde of fyre burnyng with brimstone:

¹⁰ & the deuyll that deceyued them, was caste into a lake of fyre and brymstone, where the beast and the false Prophet were & shalbe tormented daye and nyghte for euermore.

¹² & had walles great and hye, and had twelue gates, & at the gates .xij. angelles: & names wrytten, which are the twelue trybes of Israel:
