Neither yf we eate are we the better. Neither, yf we eate not, are we the worsse. ⁹ But take hede that your libertye cause not the weake to faule. ¹⁰ For yf some man se the, whiche hast knowledge, syt at meate in the Idoles temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weake, be boldened to eate those thinges, whiche are offered vnto the Idole? ¹¹ And so thorowe thy knowledge shal the weake brother perishe for whom Christ dyed. ¹² When ye synne so againste the brethren, and wound theyr weake consciences, ye synne agaynste Christe. ¹³ Wherfore yf meate hurte my brother, I wyll eate no fleshe, whyle the worlde standeth, because I wyll not hurte my brother.

³ Thou hast proued & visited myne herte in the night season: thou hast tryed me in the fyre: & hast founde no wickednes in me: for I vtterly purposed that my mouthe shoulde not offende.

⁴ Their ymages are but syluer and gold, euen the worke of mens handes. ⁵ They haue mouthes, and speake not: eies haue they, but they se not. ⁶ Thei haue eares, and heare not: noses haue they, but they smell not. ⁷ They haue handes, and handle not, fete haue they, but they cannot goo, neyther can they speake thorow their throte. ⁸ They that made them, are lyke vnto them and so are all suche as put theyr truste in them.

What is his name, or his sonnes name? Canst thou tel?

³ And therfore strengthen the weake handes, and comforte the feble knees.

¹⁶ O Lorde of Hostes, thou God of Israel, which dwellest vpon Cherubyn. Thou art the God, that only is God of all the Kyngdomes of the world, for thou only hast created heauen & earth.

²⁰ Delyuer vs then, O Lorde oure God, from the handes of Sennaherib, that all Kyngdomes of the earth maye knowe, that thou only art the Lorde.

²⁴ Beholde, ye goddes are of naugth, & your makynge is of naught but abhomynacyon hath chosen you.

⁶ Moreouer, thus hath the Lorde spoken: euen the Kynge of Israel, and his auenger, the Lorde of Hostes: I am the fyrst & the last, and with out me is there no God.

⁸ yee and that without any feare or stoppe. For haue not I euer tolde you hytherto, and warned you? Ye can beare me recorde youre selues. Is there any God excepte me? or any maker, that I shuld not knowe hym. ⁹ Wherfore all caruers of Idoles are but vayne, & their labour lost. They must beare recorde them selues, that (seyng they came nether se ner vnderstande) they shalbe confounded.

¹⁴ And therfore thus he sayeth: Make ready, make ready, & clense the strete, take vp what ye can oute of the waye that ledeth to my people.

²⁸ I shal answere them: Where are now thy Goddes, that thou hast made the? byd them stande vp, & helpe the in the time of nede? For loke how many cityes thou hast (O Iuda) so many Goddes hast thou also.

¹³ For as manye cytyes as thou haste, O Iuda, so many Goddes haste thou also: And loke how many stretes there be in the (O Ierusalem) so manye shamefull aulters haue ye set vp, to offre vpon them vnto Baal.

¹⁷ By the reason of wysdome, all men are become fooles. Confounded be all the casters of ymages for the thynge that they make is but disceyte, and hath no breath. ¹⁸ Vayne is it and worthye to be laughed at: and in the tyme of vysitacion it shall peryshe.

³ Thou sonne of man, these men beare theyr Idols in their hertes, and go purposly vpon the stomblynge block of their owne wyckednesse: how darre they then aske councell at me?

¹² seynge the seruyce that they do them, is before their Idoles, and cause the house of Israell to stomble thorowe the wyckednes? For the whych cause I haue pluckte out myne hande ouer them (sayeth the Lorde) so that now they must beare their owne iniquyte,

⁴ They droncke wyne, and praysed theyr Idoles of golde, syluer, copper, yron woodde and stone.

⁸ they lye besyde euery aulter vpon clothes taken to pledge, and in the house of theyr Goddes they drincke the wyne of the oppressed.

⁹ He answered them: I am an Ebreue, and I feare the Lorde God of heauen, whych made both the sea & drye lande.

⁷ Full gracious is the Lorde, and a stronge holde in the tyme of trouble, he knoweth them that put their truste in hym:

And they that heare shall lyue. ²⁶ For as the father hath lyfe in him selfe, so lykewyse hath he geuen to the sonne to haue lyfe in him selfe, ²⁷ and hath geuen him power also to iudge, in that he is the sonne of man. ²⁸ Maruaile not at this, the houre shall come in the which all that are in the graues, shal heare his voice, ²⁹ and shall come forth: they that haue done good, vnto the resurreccion of lyfe, and they that hath done euil, vnto the resurreccion of damnacion.

⁷ But euery man hath not knowledge. For some suppose that there is an Idole, vntyll this houre, and eate as of a thinge offered vnto the Idole, and so their consciences beynge yet weake are defyled.
