⁴ Loue suffreth longe, and is curteous. Loue enuieth not. Loue doth not frowardelye, swelleth not, dealeth not dishonestlye,

¹ When Rahel sawe that she bare Iacab no chyldren, she enuied hyr sister, and sayd vnto Iacob Geue me children, or els I am but dead.

¹¹ And his brethren hated him, but his father noted the saying.

²¹ And Dauid sayde: in vayne haue I kept all that this felowe had in the wildernesse, so that nought was myssed that pertayneth vnto him, for he hath quytte me with euyll for good. ²² So and so do God vnto the enemies of Dauid, as I wil not leaue of all that pertaine to hym, by the daunynge of the daye, ought that pisseth agaynst the wall.

³³ And blessed be thy behaueoure, and blessed be thou whyche hast kept me this daye from coming to shed bloud and from aduenging my selfe with mine own hande. ³⁴ For in very dede as sure as the Lorde God of Israel liueth whiche hath kept me backe from hurting the, excepte thou haddest hasted and met me, there hath not bene lefte Nabal by the dauninge of the daye, a pysser against the wall.

¹⁰ Then Benhadad sent vnto him and said: thus do the Gods to me and so therto, yf the dust of Samaria be ynough for al the people that folow me, that euery man maye haue an handfull. ¹¹ And the kynge of Israel answered and sayd: tell hym, let not him that putteth on hys harnesse bost him self, as he that putteth it of.

¹⁷ and refused to heare, and were not myndefull of the wonders that thou dyddeste for them: but became obstynate & heady in so muche that they turned backe to theyr bondage in theyr disobedience. But thou my God forgauest, and wast gracyous, mercyfull, pacyente, and of greate goodnesse, and forsokest them not.

⁵ Hys wayes are al waye filthye, thy iudgementes are farre out of his sight, he defyeth all his enemyes.

¹² Euyll wyll stereth vp strife, but loue couereth the multytude of synnes.

¹⁰ Among the proud ther is euer strife, but amonge those that do all thynges wyth aduysemente, ther is wysdome.

⁹ Who so couereth another mans offence seketh loue: but he that discloseth the faut setteth frends at variance.

¹⁴ He that soweth discord & strife, is lyke one that dyggeth vp a water broke: but an open enemy is like the water that breaketh out & renneth abroad.

²² It is a mans worship to do good & better it is to be a poore man, then dissembler.

⁸ Be not hastye to go to the law, lest happely thou order thy selfe so at the laste, that thy neighbour put the to shame. ⁹ Handle thy mater wt thy neyghbour him self, and dyscouer not an other mans secrete: ¹⁰ lest when men heare therof, it turne to thy dishonoure, and lest thine euell name do not ceasse.

²⁰ Caph. She openeth her hande to the poore, yea, she stretched forthe her handes too suche as haue nede.

²⁶ Phe. She openeth her mouth with wysdome, and in her tonge is the lawe of grace.

⁸ The ende of a thyng is better then the begynnynge. The pacient of spirite is better then the hye mynded. ⁹ Be not hastelye angrye in thy mynde, for wrath resteth in the bosome of a foole.

⁴ If a principall sprete be geuen the to beare rule, be not negligente then in thine office: for so shall great wickednesse be put doun, as it were wt a medecine.

¹⁹ Then was Nabuchodonosor full of indignacyon, so that the countenaunce of hys face chaunged vpon Sidrach, Misach, and Abednago. Therfor he charged and commaunded, that the ouen shuld be made seuen tymes hoter, then it was wonte to be, ²⁰ and spake vnto the strongeste worthyes that were in hys hoste, for to bynde Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, & to cast them into the hote burnynge ouen. ²¹ So these men were bounde in theyr cotes hosen, shues with theyr other garmentes, and caste into the hote burnynge ouen: ²² for the kynges commaundemente was so strate, and the ouen was exceadynge hote. As for the men that put in Sydrach, Mysach & Abednago, the flamme of the fyre destroyed them.

¹⁸ For he knewe well that for enuye they had delyuered hym.

³⁵ Wherfore, loue ye your enemyes, do good and lende, lokinge for nothynge againe, and your rewarde shall be greate, and ye shalbe the children of the hyest for he is kinde vnto the vnkinde and to the euyll. ³⁶ Be ye therfore mercifull, as your father is mercyfull.

⁹ And the patriarches hauinge indignacion sold Ioseph into Egypt. And God was wyth him,

²⁹ beyng ful of al vnryghtuous doing, of fornicacion, wickednes, couetousnes, maliciousnes, full of enuye, murther, debate, disceite, euyl condicioned, whisperers,

¹³ Let vs walke honestlye as it were in the daye lyght: not in eatynge and drynkynge: neyther in chamburynge and wantonnes, neyther in stryfe & enuiynge:

³ As longe verelye as there is amonge you enuiynge, stryfe and dissencion: are ye not carnall, and walke after the maner of men?

⁶ These thinges brethren I haue described in myne owne person and Apollos for youre sakes, that ye myght learne by vs, that no man counte of him selfe beionde that, which is aboue written: that one swell not against another for anye mans cause.

¹⁸ Some swell as though, I would come no more at you.

² And ye swell and haue not rather sorowed, that he whiche hath done this dede, myght be put from amonge you.

¹ To speake of thinges dedicate vnto Idols, we are sure that we all haue knowledge, knowledge maketh a man swel, but loue edyfyeth.

⁶ in purenes, in knoweledge, in longe suffering in kyndnes, in the holye ghoste, in loue vnfayned,

²⁰ For I feare least it come to passe, that when I come, I shall not fynde you suche as I woulde, and I shalbe founde amonge you debate, enuiynge, wrath, stryfe, backbytynges, whisperynges, swellynges & discorde.

²¹ enuiynge, murther, drounkennes, glottonye, and suche lyke: of the whiche I tell you before, as I haue tolde you in tymes past, that they whiche commytte suche thynges shall not enheryte the kingdome of God. ²² But the frute of the spiryte, is loue, ioye peace, longe sufferynge, gentylnes, goodnes, faithfulnes,

²⁶ Let vs not be vayne gloryouse, prouokynge one another, and enuyinge one another.

² in all humblenes of mynde, and mekenes, and longe sufferynge, forbearinge one another thorowe loue,

³² Be ye courteouse one to another and mercyfull, forgeuynge one another, euen as God for Christes sake forgaue you.

¹⁵ Some there are whiche preache Christ of enuie and stryfe, and some of good wyll.

¹ If there be amonge you anye consolation in Christ, yf there be anye comfortable loue, yf there be anye feloweshyp of spirite, yf there be any compassion or mercye, ² fulfyll my ioye that ye drawe one waye hauinge one loue, being of one accorde, and of one minde, ³ that nothing be done thorowe stryfe or vaine glorye, but that in mekenes of mynde euerye man esteme other better then him selfe, ⁴ & that no man considere his owne, but what is meate for other. ⁵ Let the same mynde be in you that was in Christ Iesu:

¹¹ strengthed wyth all myghte thorowe his glorious power, vnto al pacience & longe suffering with ioyfulnes,

¹⁸ Let no man make you shoute at a wronge marke which after his owne ymaginacion walketh in the humblenes and holynes of aungels, thynges which he neuer sawe: causelesse puft vp with his fleshely minde,

¹² Nowe therfore as electe of God, holy and beloued, put on tender mercye, kyndnes, humblenes of mindes, meaknes, longe sufferynge,

¹⁴ We desyre you brethren, warne them that are vnruly, comforte the feble minded, forbeare the weake, haue contynuall pacience towarde all men.

⁴ he is puft vp, and knoweth nothyng: but wasteth hys braynes about questyons and stryfe of wordes, whereof sprynge enuye, stryfe, raylynges, euyll surmysynges

²⁵ the euyll in meakenes, and can informe them that resiste: yf that God at any tyme wyll geue them repentaunce for to know the trueth,

¹⁰ But thou haste sene the experience of my doctryne, fashyon of lyuyng, purpose, fayth, long suffering, loue, pacience,

² preache the word, be feruent, be it in season or out of season. Improue, rebuke, exhorte, wyth all long suffering and doctryne.

³ For we our selues also in tymes paste, vnwyse, dysobedient, deceyued, in daunger to lustes, and to dyuers maners of voluptuousnes, lyuyng in malycyousnes and enuye, ful of hate, hatyng one another.

¹⁴ But, yf ye haue bitter enuyinge and strife in youre hertes, reioyce not: neyther be lyars agaynste the trueth. ¹⁵ Thys wysedome descendeth not from aboue: but is earthye, & naturall, and deuelyshe: ¹⁶ For where enuiynge and stryfe is there is vnstablenes and all maner of euyll workes. ¹⁷ But the wysedome that is from aboue, is fyrste pure, then peasable, gentle, and easye to be entreated, full of mercye & good frutes, wythoute iudgynge, and wythout simulacyon:

⁵ Eyther do ye thynke that the scrypture sayeth in vayne. The spyryte that dwelleth in you lusteth euen contrarye to enuye:

¹ Wherfore laye a syde all malycyousnes, and all gyle, and dyssymulacyon, and enuye, and all backbytynge:

⁸ In conclusyon be ye all of one mynd, one suffer wyth another, loue as brethren, be petifull, be curteous,

⁸ But aboue all thinges haue feruente loue among you. For loue couereth the multitude of synnes.

⁷ in Godlines brotherly kyndnes, in brotherlye kindnes, loue.

¹⁶ Hereby perceyue we loue, that he gaue hys lyfe for vs, & therfore oughte we also to geue our lyues for the brethren. ¹⁷ Whosoeuer hath this worldes good, and seeth his brother haue nede, and shutteth vp his compassion from him, howe dwelleth the loue of God in hym? ¹⁸ My babes, let vs not loue in worde neyther in tonge, but wyth the dede and in veryty:

¹¹ Beloued yf God so loued vs we oughte also to loue one another.
