³ But fornication, and all impurity, or inordinate desire, let it not be approved by you, as being unworthy of christians: neither ribaldry,

¹⁹ out of the heart proceed evil designs, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimony, slanders.

²¹ for from within, from the heart of man proceed wicked designs, adulteries, fornications, murders; thefts, ²² avarice, malice, fraud, impudence, envy, scandal, pride, vanity.

¹⁵ then he said to them, take care to be clear of all avarice: for the enjoyment of life does not depend upon the having large possessions.

¹⁴ The Pharisees too, who were noted for avarice, heard all this discourse, and treated him with derision.

²⁰ that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, from fornication, from animals that are strangled, and from their blood.

³³ I have not desir'd to get from any one either silver, or gold, or apparel.

²⁹ they were full of all injustice, fornication, mischief, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, contention, fraud, malignity;

¹³ neither yield your members as instruments to iniquity: but yield yourselves unto God, as being alive after having been dead; and your members as instruments of righteousness.

² as becometh christians, and assist her in every thing her business requires: for she hath assisted many besides my self.

¹ we have it from all quarters, that incest is practis'd among you, and such as is not among the Gentiles, that of a man's having his father's wife.

¹⁰ I did not mean the vicious Gentiles, the misers, the raparees, or with idolaters; for then you must have gone out of the world. ¹¹ but my meaning was, not to keep company with any christian known to be vicious, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or rapacious, no not even to eat with such a one.

⁹ Know you not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? be not deceived: neither the licentious, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor the brutal, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor misers, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor raparees, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

¹³ "meat is design'd for the belly, and the belly for meat:" true, yet God has design'd both for destruction. now the body is not design'd for licentiousness, but for the glory of the Lord; since the Lord died for the glorification of the body:

¹⁸ flee licentiousness. no other sin that a man commits does affect the church as a body: but the licentious commits a fraud against the whole body to which he belongs.

⁸ neither let us commit fornication, as some of them did, of whom three and twenty thousand fell in one day.

²¹ and I am afraid, God will humble me when I come again among you, and I shall bewail many who have formerly sinned, and have not yet repented of their impurity, their fornication, and dissoluteness.

¹⁹ now the effects of vicious passions are manifestly these, fornication, uncleanness, ²⁰ brutality, idolatry, poisoning, enmities, quarrels, emulations, animosities, strife, seditions, factions, envyings, ²¹ drunkenness, revellings, and such like, concerning which I forewarn you now, as heretofore I have done, that they who practise such vices, shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

¹⁹ who without remorse, have abandon'd themselves to brutality, in gratifying every lewd unnatural passion. ²⁰ but you have learned other things from Christ,

⁵ for this you know, that no licentious or dissolute person, no lewd libertine, that is, an idolater, hath any part in the kingdom of Christ, and of God.

¹² for it is a shame even to mention what they practise in secret.

²⁷ only conduct yourselves in a manner becoming the gospel of Christ, that whether I come to see you, or else am absent, I may have this account of you, that you are stedfastly of the same resolution, and unanimously contend for the faith of the gospel,

⁵ Mortify therefore your sensual appetites, fornication, impurity, irregular passions, wicked desires, and that licentiousness practised by idolaters.

³ and such is the will of God, that you should be holy, and avoid licentiousness;

⁷ for God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness:

¹⁰ but, as becomes women, who make a profession of religion, to be adorn'd with virtue.

³ not given to wine or violence, but of a gentle temper, averse to contention and avarice: a master of economy,

¹⁰ which some having obtain'd, have revolted from the faith, and brought upon themselves variety of piercing pains.

² for men will be selfish, avaricious, vain, proud, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful,

⁷ for a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not morose, not soon angry, not given to wine, not violent, not desirous of unlawful gain.

¹¹ who ought to be curb'd, who pervert whole families, teaching things which they ought not, for sordid lucre.

³ in charity, in patience: the aged women likewise, to behave with sanctity of manners, not false accusers, not given to tipling,

¹⁶ let there be no licentious or profane person, such as Esau, "who sold his birth-right, for a single mess."

⁴ Marriage is every where honourable, and that state is innocent: but the licentious and adulterers God will punish. ⁵ let your morals be free from avarice, being contented with what you have: for he hath said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

² to exhort you to feed the flock of God, which is among you: to take care of it, voluntarily, without reluctance, not from any view to sordid gain, but out of real affection;

³ By their artful discourses they will make you the tools of their avarice; but their condemnation has been a long time advancing, and their ruin is far from lingring.

¹⁰ especially those, who prostitute themselves to sensual infamous passions: who despise magistrates, who being audacious, and insolent, intrepidly calumniate the higher powers;

¹⁴ their eyes are inflam'd with adultery, and unextinguishable vice: they insnare the souls of the inconstant. their minds are practis'd in the arts of avarice: an execrable race, who have deserted the right way,

¹⁴ but I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there those that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who counselled Balac to ensnare the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication.

²¹ I gave her space to repent of her fornication, but she repented not.

²¹ nor did they repent of their murders, of their poisoning, of their brutality, nor of their robberys.

⁸ but the fearful, and incredulous, the abominable, the murderer, the licentious, the poisoner, the idolater, and every lyar shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: this is the second death."

¹⁵ "but without are the execrable, the poisoners, the licentious, the murderers, the idolaters, and all who are pleas'd with, or practise deceit.
