¹³ wherefore if my eating makes my brother offend, I will never eat flesh rather than make my brother offend.

¹⁹ for tho' I am independent of all men, yet have I subjected myself to all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ to the Jews, I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those who are under the law; ²¹ to those who are without the law, as without that law, (not as being under no law to God, but as under the law to Christ) that I might gain those who are without the law. ²² to the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak: I became all things to all men, that I might save all sorts of men. ²³ and I do all for the gospel's sake, that I may share in the benefits thereof.

³³ thus I endeavour to be acceptable to all men in all things, not seeking my own advantage, but that of others, so as they may be saved.

⁵ is not self-interested, is not easily provoked, nor suspects any ill;

³ as for us, we give no occasion of offence, that our ministry may not be blamed:

²⁹ who is afflicted, and I not suffer? who is offended, and I not inflam'd?

⁸ Moses did not meet with greater opposition from Jannes and Jambres, than truth does from men so corrupted in their mind, and so adulterated in their faith. ⁹ but they will be stop'd in their career; for they shall be expos'd to the world for impostors, as those magicians were.
