² Where pride is, there is shame also and confusion; but whereas is lowliness, there is wisdom.

³⁴ As for the scornful, he shall laugh them to scorn, but he shall give grace unto the lowly. ³⁵ The wise shall have honour in possession, but shame is the promotion that fools shall have.

⁸ "When thou art bidden to a wedding of any man, sit not down in the highest room, lest a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him, ⁹ and he that bade both him and thee, come and say to thee, 'Give this man room.' And thou then begin with shame to take the lowest room. ¹⁰ But rather, when thou art bidden, go and sit in the lowest room, that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, 'Friend, sit up higher.' Then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. ¹¹ For whosoever exalteth himself, shall be brought low. And he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted."

¹⁴ I tell you, This man departed home to his house justified more than the other. For every man that exalteth himself, shall be brought low: And he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted."

¹ To speak of things dedicated unto idols, we are sure that we all have knowledge. Knowledge maketh a man swell: but love edifieth. ² If any man think that he knoweth anything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
