⁴ And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, "Now this company hath licked up all that are round about us, as an ox licketh up the grass of the field." And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

² And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites,

⁷ And the elders of Moab went with the elders of Midian, and the reward of the soothsaying in their hands. And they came unto Balaam and told him the words of Balak.

¹⁷ I see him but not now, I behold him but not nigh. There shall come a star of Jacob and rise a scepter of Israel, which shall smite the coasts of Moab and undermine all the children of Seth.

¹⁵ And the name of the Midianitish woman was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur and head over the people of an ancient house in Midian. ¹⁶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, ¹⁷ "Vex the Midianites and smite them, ¹⁸ for they have troubled you with their wiles with thee, which they have beguiled you, through Peor and through their sister Cozbi the daughter of a lord in Midian, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake."

⁸ And they slew the kings of Midian among other that were slain; Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba: five kings of Midian. And they slew Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.

²¹ and all the cities in the plain. And all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites which reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the lords of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba, the lords of Sihon, and the inhabiters of the country. ²² And Balaam, also, the son of Beor, the soothsayer, the children of Israel slew with the sword, among other that were slain.

²⁵ And thereto art thou better than Balak the son of Zippor king of Moab? Did he strive with Israel or fight against thee,

³⁸ Upon all the housetops and streets of Moab, there shall be mourning: For I will break Moab like an unprofitable vessel sayeth the LORD.
