⁴¹ Just then a synagogue leader named Jairus came and fell at Jesus’ feet. He begged Him to come to his house,

⁷ “I will go and heal him,” Jesus replied. ⁸ The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.

¹⁸ While Jesus was saying these things, a synagogue leader came and knelt before Him. “My daughter has just died,” he said. “But come and place Your hand on her, and she will live.” ¹⁹ So Jesus got up and went with him, along with His disciples. ²⁰ Suddenly a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak. ²¹ She said to herself, “If only I touch His cloak, I will be healed.” ²² Jesus turned around and saw her. “Take courage, daughter,” He said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was cured from that very hour. ²³ When Jesus entered the house of the synagogue leader, He saw the flute players and the noisy crowd. ²⁴ “Go away,” He told them. “The girl is not dead, but asleep.” And they laughed at Him. ²⁵ After the crowd had been put outside, Jesus went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. ²⁶ And the news about this spread throughout that region.

²² And behold, a synagogue leader named Jairus arrived, and seeing Jesus, he fell at His feet ²³ and pleaded with Him urgently, “My little daughter is near death. Please come and place Your hands on her, so that she will be healed and live.” ²⁴ So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd followed and pressed around Him. ²⁵ And a woman was there who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years. ²⁶ She had borne much agony under the care of many physicians and had spent all she had, but to no avail. Instead, her condition had only grown worse. ²⁷ When the woman heard about Jesus, she came up through the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak. ²⁸ For she kept saying, “If only I touch His garments, I will be healed.” ²⁹ Immediately her bleeding stopped, and she sensed in her body that she was healed of her affliction. ³⁰ At once Jesus was aware that power had gone out from Him. Turning to the crowd, He asked, “Who touched My garments?” ³¹ His disciples answered, “You can see the crowd pressing in on You, and yet You ask, ‘Who touched Me?’” ³² But He kept looking around to see who had done this. ³³ Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him trembling in fear, and she told Him the whole truth. ³⁴ “Daughter,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be free of your affliction.” ³⁵ While He was still speaking, messengers from the house of Jairus arrived and said, “Your daughter is dead; why bother the Teacher anymore?” ³⁶ But Jesus overheard their conversation and immediately said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just believe.” ³⁷ And He did not allow anyone to accompany Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. ³⁸ When He arrived at the house of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw the commotion and the people weeping and wailing loudly. ³⁹ He went inside and asked, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead, but asleep.” ⁴⁰ And they laughed at Him. After He had put them all outside, He took the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and went in where the child was lying. ⁴¹ Taking her by the hand, Jesus said, “Talitha koumi!” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” ⁴² Immediately the girl got up and began to walk around. She was twelve years old, and at once they were utterly astounded. ⁴³ Then Jesus gave strict orders that no one should know about this, and He told them to give her something to eat.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees. “Go away from me, Lord,” he said, “for I am a sinful man.”

⁴⁹ While He was still speaking, someone arrived from the house of the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he told Jairus. “Do not bother the Teacher.”

¹⁴ But the synagogue leader was indignant that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. “There are six days for work,” he told the crowd. “So come and be healed on those days and not on the Sabbath.”

¹⁶ He fell facedown at Jesus’ feet in thanksgiving to Him—and he was a Samaritan.

⁴⁶ So once again Jesus came to Cana in Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. ⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Him to come down and heal his son, who was about to die. ⁴⁸ Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe.” ⁴⁹ “Sir,” the official said, “come down before my child dies.”

²¹ Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.

³⁸ Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples heard that Peter was there and sent to him, urging, “Come to them without delay.”

¹⁵ After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue leaders sent word to them: “Brothers, if you have a word of encouragement for the people, please speak.”

⁸ Crispus, the synagogue leader, and his whole household believed in the Lord. And many of the Corinthians who heard the message believed and were baptized.

¹⁷ At this, all the Greeks seized Sosthenes the synagogue leader and beat him in front of the judgment seat. But none of this was of concern to Gallio.

⁸ When He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
