⁶⁴ "Did you hear his blasphemy? What is your verdict?"

⁶⁵ Then the high priest tore his garments, saying. "He has spoken blasphemy! What further need have we of witnesses? For behold, now you have heard his blasphemy! ⁶⁶ "What is your verdict?" "He ought to die," they answered.

⁷¹ "What need we of further evidence? for we ourselves have heard it from his own lips."

¹⁸ For this reason the Jews continued to seek the more eagerly to put him to death, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was actually speaking of God as his own Father, thus making himself of God's equal.
