³ Though I do walk on the low level of the flesh, I do not make war as the flesh does;

¹³ for if you go on living according to the flesh, you are on the road to die; but if by the Spirit you keep putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

⁴ for the weapons of my warfare are not weapons of the flesh, but mighty for God, in pulling down all fortresses.

²⁰ I have been crucified with Christ, so it is no longer I who am living, but it is Christ who is living in me; and the life I am now living in the flesh, I am living in faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself up for me.

¹⁸ This charge then, I am laying upon you, Timothy, my son, according to the predictions formerly made concerning you. Fight the good fight in the spirit of these predictions,

³ Take your share in suffering as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. ⁴ A soldier in active service avoids entangling himself in the every-day affairs of life, so that he may please his commander.

⁷ I have fought in the glorious contest; I have run the race; I have kept the faith.

¹ Seeing then that we are encircled with this great cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin that clings about us. Let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

¹ Since, then, Christ suffered in the flesh, do you also ever arm yourselves with the same mind (because he who has suffered in the flesh has done with sin), ² so that in future you may not spend your life in the flesh according to men's desires, but in the will of God.
