¹⁵ The men who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out—they are displeasing to God, and are the enemies of all mankind.

¹² "Rejoice and exult in it, because your reward was great in the heavens; for so did they persecute the prophets before you.

³⁵ And the vine-dressers seized his slaves, flogged one, killed another, and stoned a third. ³⁶ Again he sent other slaves, a larger number than at first, and they treated them in the same way. ³⁷ And last he sent his son to them; 'Surely they will respect my son,' he said. ³⁸ But when the vine-dressers saw his son, they said to themselves: "'This is the heir. How shall you escape the judgment of hell? ³⁴ "For this cause, behold! I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and pursue from city to city; ³⁵ "that upon your heads may come every drop of innocent blood spilt upon the earth, from the blood of Abel, the just, to the blood of Zechariah the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the Sanctuary and the altar.

³⁷ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, murdering the prophets, and stoning those who have been sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and you would not!

²⁵ All the people answered, "His blood be upon us and upon our children."

⁵ But in most of them God was not well pleased, for they were laid low in the desert.
