¹⁴ The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity, but a broken spirit who can bear?

²⁰ Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell down upon the ground and worshiped. ²¹ And he said, Naked I came out of my mother's womb and naked I will return there. Jehovah gave and Jehovah has taken away, praise the name of Jehovah.

⁷ So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah and killed* Job with severe boils from the sole of his foot to his crown.
⁸ And he took an earthen vessel for him to scrape himself with it and he sat among the ashes. ⁹ Then his wife said to him, Do you still hold fast your integrity? Renounce God and die. ¹⁰ But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God and will we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison of which my spirit drinks up. The terrors of God set themselves in array against me.

¹⁴ Then you scare me with dreams and terrify me through visions, ¹⁵ so that my soul chooses strangling and death rather than these my bones.

¹⁵ If I am wicked, woe to me. And if I am righteous, yet I will not lift up my head, being filled with shame and looking upon my affliction.
¹⁶ And if my head exalts itself, you hunt me as a lion. And again you show yourself marvelous upon me. ¹⁷ You renew your witnesses against me and increase your indignation upon me. Changes and warfare are with me.

⁹ What profit is there in my blood when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise you? Shall it declare your truth? ¹⁰ Hear, O Jehovah and have mercy upon me. Jehovah, be my helper.

³ Because I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all the day long. ⁴ Because day and night your hand was heavy upon me. My moisture was changed as with the drought of summer. Selah.

² Because your arrows stick fast in me and your hand presses me severely. ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, nor is there any health in my bones because of my sin.
⁴ Because my iniquities have gone over my head. As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

¹⁰ As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries reproach me; while they continually say to me, Where is your God?
¹¹ Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you in an uproar within me? Hope in God, because I will yet praise him, the help of my countenance and my God.

³ from the voice of the enemy, from the oppression of the wicked. Because they shake down iniquity upon me and they persecute me in anger.

⁵ Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me and horror has overwhelmed me.

² I sought the Lord in the day of my trouble. My hand was stretched out in the night and did not slack. My soul refused to be comforted. ³ I remember God and I am in an uproar. I complain and my spirit is overwhelmed. Selah.

¹⁴ Jehovah, why do you cast off my soul? Why do you hide your face from me? ¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors I am confounded. ¹⁶ Your fierce wrath has gone over me. Your terrors have cut me off.

²² because I am poor and needy and my heart is wounded within me.

³ He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds.

¹³ A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

²² A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.

³³ And he takes with him Peter and James and John, and began to be utterly amazed and disheartened. ³⁴ And he says to them, My soul is very sorrowful until death, remain here and watch.

³ But not only in this, but we are also boasting in our afflictions, knowing that affliction is working endurance; ⁴ and endurance, approved character, and an approved character, hope; ⁵ and hope does not shame one, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

³⁵ Who will be separating us away from the love of Christ? Shall affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? ³⁶ Just-as it has been written, ‘Because of you we are slain the whole day. We were counted as sheep of the slaughter.’ ³⁷ But we are victorious in all these things through the one who loved us.

¹² For this is our boasting, the testimony of our conscience, that in clarity and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we conducted ourselves in the world and even-more toward you.

⁷ so-that you, rather instead, are to forgive him and to encourage him, lest such a one might be swallowed up with his sorrow even-more.

⁹ And he has said to me, My grace is enough for you; for my power is completed in weakness. Therefore I will rather gladly be boasting in my weaknesses, in order that the power of the Christ might reside upon me. ¹⁰ Hence I am delighting in weaknesses, in insults, in calamities, in persecutions, in distresses, on behalf of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am mighty.

² My brethren, deem it with all joy, whenever you fall into various temptations,
