¹ And the men of Ephraim said to him, Why have you done thus to us, that you did not call us when you went to fight with Midian? And they chided with him sharply.
² And he said to them, What have I now done in comparison with you*? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? ³ God has delivered into your* hand the rulers of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb and what was I able to do in comparison with you*? Then their anger was abated toward him when he had said that.

³ And when I saw that you* did not save me, I put my life in my hand and passed opposite the sons of Ammon and Jehovah delivered them into my hand. Why then have you* come up to me this day, to fight against me?
⁴ Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim. And the men of Gilead killed* Ephraim, because they said, You* are fugitives of Ephraim, you* Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.
⁵ And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And it was so, that, when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said to him, Are you an Ephraimite? If he said, No, ⁶ then they said to him, Say now Shibboleth and he said Sibboleth, for he could not frame to pronounce it right, then they laid hold on him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim forty-two thousand.

¹⁰ And Nabal answered David's servants and said, Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants now-a-days who break away every man from his master. ¹¹ Shall I then take my bread and my water and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers and give it to men of whom I do not know from where they are? ¹² So David's young men turned on their way and went back and came and told him according to all these words.
¹³ And David said to his men, Gird you* on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword and David also girded on his sword. And there went up after David about four hundred men and two hundred abode by the baggage.

²¹ Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow has in the wilderness so that nothing was missed of all that pertained to him and he has returned me evil for good. ²² God do so to the enemies of David and more also, if I leave of all that pertains to him by the morning light so much as one who urinates on the wall.
²³ And when Abigail saw David, she hastened and alighted from her donkey and fell before David on her face and bowed herself to the ground. ²⁴ And she fell at his feet and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me be the iniquity and I beseech you, let your handmaid speak in your ears and hear the words of your handmaid. ²⁵ I beseech you, do not let my lord regard this worthless fellow, even Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name and senselessness is with him. But I your handmaid saw not the young men of my lord whom you sent.
²⁶ Now therefore, my lord, as Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, since Jehovah has withheld you from blood guiltiness and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies and those who seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal. ²⁷ And now this present which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord.
²⁸ I beseech you, forgive the trespass of your handmaid. For Jehovah will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights the battles of Jehovah and evil will not be found in you all your days. ²⁹ And though men have risen up to pursue you and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with Jehovah your God. And the souls of your enemies, them he will sling out as from the hollow of a sling.
³⁰ And it will happen, when Jehovah will have done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you and will have appointed you prince over Israel, ³¹ that this will be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. And when Jehovah will have dealt well with my lord, then remember your handmaid.
³² And David said to Abigail, Praise Jehovah, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me, ³³ and your discretion is blessed and you are blessed, who have kept me this day from blood guiltiness and from avenging myself with my own hand.

⁴³ And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, We have ten parts in the king and we have also more right in David than you*. Why then did you* despise us, that our advice should not be had first in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

¹³ And the king answered the people roughly and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, ¹⁴ and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your* yoke heavy, but I will add to your* yoke. My father disciplined you* with whips, but I will chastise you* with scorpions.
¹⁵ So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a thing brought about by Jehovah, that he might establish his word, which Jehovah spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
¹⁶ And when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? Neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your* tents, O Israel. Now see to your own house, David. So Israel departed to their tents.

¹² Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions.

¹⁸ A wrathful man stirs up contention, but he who is slow to anger appeases strife.

¹⁵ A ruler is persuaded by long-suffering and a soft tongue breaks the bone.

²⁵ He who is of a greedy spirit stirs up strife, but he who puts his trust in Jehovah will be made fat.

²² An angry man stirs up strife and a wrathful man abounds in transgression.

¹ My heart overflows with a good matter. I speak the things which I have made concerning the king. My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

⁷ Behold, they pour out words with their mouth. Swords are in their lips, because they say, Who hears?

²³ A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

¹⁶ Every prudent man works with knowledge, but a fool flaunts folly.

²³ A man has joy in the answer of his mouth and a word in due season, how good it is!

²⁸ The heart of a righteous man meditates to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

²³ The heart of the wise instructs his mouth and adds learning to his lips.

¹¹ A timely word spoken is apples of gold in a lattice-work of silver.
¹² An earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, so is reproving a wise one upon an obedient ear.

¹² The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool will swallow himself up. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

⁴ The lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words he who is weary. He awakens morning by morning. He awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.

⁹ For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong to those whose heart is perfect toward him. In this you have done foolishly, for from hereafter you will have wars.

⁴ Does he not see my ways and number all my steps?

²¹ For his eyes are upon the ways of a man and he sees all his goings. ²² There is no darkness, nor thick gloom where the workers of wickedness may hide themselves.

²¹ Because the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah and he makes level all his paths.

¹⁷ For my eyes are upon all their ways. They are not hid from my face, nor is their iniquity concealed from my eyes.

²⁴ Can any man hide himself in secret places so that I will not see him? says Jehovah. Do I not fill heaven and earth? says Jehovah.

¹⁹ great in counsel and mighty in work, whose eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men, to give everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his practices,

¹³ And there is no created thing unapparent in his sight, but all things are naked and have been laid-bare to his eyes to whom is our account.

²² And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil and now, lest he put forth his hand and also take of the tree of life and eat and live everlasting– ²³ therefore Jehovah God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to work the ground from where he was taken.
²⁴ So he drove out the man. And he placed the cherubim and the flame of a sword which turned every way at the east of the garden of Eden to guard the way of the tree of life.

² Your tongue devises wickedness, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
³ You love evil more than good and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. ⁴ You love all devouring words, O you deceitful tongue.

²² because I am poor and needy and my heart is wounded within me.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold upon her. And everyone who retains her is fortunate.

¹⁸ There is he who speaks rashly like the stabs of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is health.

²⁴ Pleasant words are a honeycomb: Sweet to the soul and health to the bones.

⁸ The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels and they go down into the innermost parts.

⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the congregations. To the one who overcomes, I will be giving to him to eat from the Tree of Life, which is in the Paradise of God.

²³ And he said to them, Why do you* such things? For I hear of your* evil dealings from all this people. ²⁴ No, my sons, for it is no good report that I hear. You* make Jehovah's people to transgress. ²⁵ If one man sins against another, God will judge him, but if a man sins against Jehovah, who will entreat for him? Notwithstanding, they did not listen to the voice of their father, because Jehovah intended to kill them.

¹ And it happened after this, that Absalom prepared for him a chariot and horses and fifty men to run before him.
² And Absalom rose up early and stood beside the way of the gate. And it was so, that, when any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called to him and said, Of what city are you? And he said, Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel. ³ And Absalom said to him, See, your matters are good and right, but there is no man appointed by the king to hear you. ⁴ Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who has any suit or case might come to me and I would do for him justice!
⁵ And it was so, that, when any man came near to him bowed-down, he put forth his hand and took hold of him and kissed him. ⁶ And on this manner Absalom did to all Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

¹¹ Now, my son, Jehovah be with you and prosper you and build the house of Jehovah your God as he has spoken concerning you. ¹² Only Jehovah give you discretion and understanding and give you charge concerning Israel, so that you may keep the law of Jehovah your God. ¹³ Then you will prosper, if you observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Jehovah charged Moses with concerning Israel. Be strong and of good courage. Do not fear, neither be dismayed.

⁹ And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind, for Jehovah searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage and do it. Do not fear, nor be dismayed, for Jehovah God, even my God, is with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of Jehovah be finished.

⁵ Let a righteous man kill* me, as a kindness. And let him reprove me, as oil upon the head. Do not let my head refuse it. Because my prayer will continue even in their wickedness.

²³ Turn back at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit upon you*. I will make my words known to you*.

²³ Because the commandment is a lamp and the law is light and reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

¹ A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer listens not to rebuke.

¹⁸ Poverty and shame are to him who refuses correction, but he who regards reproof will be honored.

³¹ The ear that listens to the reproof of life will abide among the wise.
³² He who refuses correction despises his own soul, but he who listens to reproof gets understanding.

²⁰ Hear counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.

¹³ This testimony is true. Because of which case, reprove them sharply, in order that they may be sound in the faith,

¹⁵ Speak and encourage and reprove these things with every commandment. Let no one despise you.

¹⁹ For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house and he will not build it up. ²⁰ Because he knew no quietness within him, he will not save any of that in which he delights. ²¹ There was nothing left that he did not devour, therefore his prosperity will not endure.
²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he will be in straits. The hand of everyone who is in misery will come upon him. ²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God will cast the fierceness of his wrath upon him and will rain it upon him while he is eating.

¹⁶ Better is a little that the righteous man has than the abundance of many wicked men.

³ Wealth and riches are in his house and his righteousness endures forever.

²¹ that I may cause those who love me to inherit substance and that I may fill their treasuries.

²² The blessing of Jehovah, it makes rich and he adds no sorrow with it.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his son's sons and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.

¹⁶ Better is little with the fear of Jehovah, than great treasure and trouble with it.

⁸ Better is a little, with righteousness, than great revenues with injustice.

²⁰ There is desirable treasure and oil in the dwelling of a wise man, but a foolish man swallows it up.

⁶ Better is a handful, with quietness, than two handfuls with labor and striving after wind.

¹⁰ He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver, nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity. ¹¹ When goods increase, they are increased who eat them. And what advantage is there to the owner of it, except the beholding of them with his eyes?
¹² The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the fullness of the rich will not allow him to sleep.
¹³ There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun; riches were kept by its owner to his evil. ¹⁴ And those riches perish by an evil task. And if he has fathered a son, there is nothing in his hand.

²⁶ having deemed the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking toward the reward.

¹ Come now you rich, weep, howling in your miseries, in those which are coming upon you. ² Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have tarnished, and their tarnish will be for a testimony against you and will be eating your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in your^\'b0 last days.

³⁰ The mouth of a righteous man talks of wisdom and his tongue speaks justice.

² You are fairer than the sons of men. Favor is poured into your lips. Therefore God has blessed you everlasting.

¹³ Then I will teach transgressors your ways and sinners will be turned to you.
¹⁴ Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God, you God of my salvation. And my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
¹⁵ O Lord, open you my lips and my mouth will show forth your praise.

¹⁵ My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all the day, because I do not know the numbers.
¹⁶ I will come with the mighty acts of the lord Jehovah. I will make mention of your righteousness, yours only!
¹⁷ O God, you have taught me from my youth and I have declared your wondrous works until now.
¹⁸ Yes, even when I am old and gray headed, O God, forsake me not, until I have declared your strength to a generation, your might to everyone who is to come.

² I will open my mouth in parables. I will pour out dark sayings of long-ago, ³ which we have heard and known and our fathers have told us.
⁴ We will not hide them from their sons, telling to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah and his strength and his wondrous works that he has done.
⁵ For he established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their sons, ⁶ that the generation to come might know, even the sons who should be born, who should arise and tell to their sons,

¹³ I have declared all the ordinances of your mouth with my lips.

²⁰ The tongue of a righteous man is choice silver. The heart of the wicked is little.
²¹ The lips of a righteous man feeds many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding.

⁹ And further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he pondered and sought out and set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words and what was written uprightly–words of truth.

¹¹ Your lips, O my bride, drop the honeycomb. Honey and milk are under your tongue and the smell of your garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

²⁷ What I am speaking to you in the darkness, speak in the light, and what you hear in your^\'b0 ear, preach upon the housetops.

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How are you, being evil, able to speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth is speaking.

¹⁸ And Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to me in heaven and upon earth.
¹⁹ When you travel, make disciples of all the nations, immersing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ teaching them to observe all things, as many things as I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the earth.
Amen.

¹⁵ And he said to them, When you travel into all the world, preach the good-news to all creation.

⁹ Now the Lord said to Paul through a vision in the night, Do not be afraid, but speak out and do not be silent, ¹⁰ because I am with you and no one will be laying a hand on you to mistreat you, because there are many people in this city believing in me.

¹⁴ Therefore how will they call upon him in whom they have not believed? But how will they believe of whom they have not heard? But how will they hear without someone preaching? ¹⁵ But how will they preach, if they are not sent? Just-as it has been written, ‘How Beautiful are the feet of those who are proclaiming the good-news of peace and of those who are proclaiming the good-news of good things!’ ¹⁶ But not all obeyed the good-news; for Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed our report?’ ¹⁷ Consequently, the faith comes from our report but our report comes through the declaration of God.

¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of anything of the things which Christ did not work through me, except for the obedience of the Gentiles, in word and works, ¹⁹ in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God. So-then, I have fulfilled the good-news of the Christ from Jerusalem and in a circle, as far as Illyricum. ²⁰ And so, I am making it my aim to proclaim the good-news, not where Christ was already named, in order that I might not build upon another’s foundation; ²¹ but, as it has been written, ‘They will see, to whom it was not reported concerning him and those who have not heard will understand.’

²⁹ Do not let any rotten speech travel from your mouth. But if something is good for the building up of a need, do this in order that it may give a favor to those who are hearing.

² And the things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, consign these to faithful men, who will also be competent to teach others.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, the world of unrighteousness. Thus the tongue is designated among our members as what stains the whole body and ignites the birth cycle and is ignited by hell.

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that you try the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things. And now I have seen with joy your people, who are present here, offer willingly to you.

¹ Hear the righteous, O Jehovah, attend to my cry. Listen to my prayer, that does not go out from pretending lips.

²⁹ Jehovah is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

⁹ He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

¹ Keep your foot when you go to the house of God, for to draw near to hear is better than to give the sacrifice of fools. For they do not know that they do evil.

¹⁴ O my dove, who are in the clefts of the rock, in the covert of the steep place, let me see your countenance; let me hear your voice. Because sweet is your voice and your countenance is becoming.

¹⁰ Hear the word of Jehovah, you* rulers of Sodom, listen to the law of our God, you* people of Gomorrah.
¹¹ What to me is the multitude of your* sacrifices? says Jehovah. I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts. And I do not delight in the blood of bullocks or of lambs or of male-goats. ¹² When you* come to appear before me, who has required this at your* hand–to trample my courts?
¹³ Bring no more vain oblations. Incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath, the calling of assemblies–I cannot bear wickedness and the solemn assembly. ¹⁴ Your* new moons and your* appointed feasts my soul hates. They are a trouble to me. I am weary of bearing them.
¹⁵ And when you* spread forth your* hands, I will hide my eyes from you*. Yes, when you* make many prayers, I will not hear; your* hands are full of blood.

⁸ For I, Jehovah, love justice. I hate robbery with the burnt offering. And I will give them their recompense in truth.
And I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

³ He who slaughters an ox is as he who kills a man. He who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog's neck. He who offers an oblation, as swine's blood. He who burns frankincense, as he who graces an idol.
Yes, they have chosen their own ways and their soul delights in their abominations.

²⁰ To what purpose does there come to me frankincense from Sheba and the sweet cane from a far country? Your* burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your* sacrifices pleasing to me.

²¹ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Add your* burnt offerings to your* sacrifices and eat you* flesh. ²² For I spoke not to your* fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices.
²³ But this thing I commanded them, saying, Listen to my voice and I will be your* God and you* will be my people. And walk you* in all the way that I command you*, that it may be well with you*.

²¹ I hate, I despise your* feasts and I will take no delight in your* solemn assemblies. ²² Yes, though you* offer me your* burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them, nor will I regard the peace offerings of your* fat beasts.

²⁴ God is a Spirit, and it is essential for those who are worshiping him to worship in spirit and truth.

⁶ Because Jehovah knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

⁸ Jehovah opens the eyes of the blind. Jehovah raises up those who are bowed down. Jehovah loves the righteous.
⁹ Jehovah preserves the travelers. He upholds the fatherless and widow. But the way of the wicked he turns upside down.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness. They do not know at what they stumble.

⁴ A high look and a proud heart, even the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

⁸ The way of him who is laden with guilt is exceedingly crooked, but as for a pure man, his work is right.

²¹ He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness and honor.

⁷ The way of the just is uprightness. You who are upright directs the path of the just.

¹ Listen to me, you* who follow after righteousness, you* who seek Jehovah. Look to the rock from where you* were hewn and to the hold of the pit from where you* were dug.

⁷ Listen to me, you* who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law. Do not fear the reproach of men, nor be you* dismayed at their revilings.

⁴ However I sent all my servants the prophets to you*, rising up early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate.

³ And let us know, let us follow on to know Jehovah. His going forth is sure as the morning and he will come to us as the rain, as the latter rain that waters the earth.

¹³ You who are of purer eyes than to behold evil and who cannot look on perverseness, why do you look upon those who deal treacherously and hold your peace when the wicked man swallows up the man who is more righteous than he,

¹³ Enter in through the narrow gate, because wide is the gate and broad is the way, which leads to destruction and there are many who are entering through it.

¹¹ But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue: righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, meekness.

²² But flee the youthful lusts; pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who are calling upon the Lord out of a clean heart.

¹⁷ And it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, Is it you, you troubler of Israel?

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found you because you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of Jehovah.

⁸ And the King of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Do not let the king say so.

³⁰ They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.

¹² and say, How I have hated instruction and my heart despised reproof.

¹⁷ He is in the way of life who heeds correction, but he who forsakes reproof goes-astray.

¹ He who loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.

³⁵ They have stricken me, you will say and I was not hurt. They have beaten me and I did not feel it. When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

⁵ Why will you* still be stricken, that you* revolt more and more? The whole head is sick and the whole heart faint. ⁶ From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it, but wounds and bruises and fresh stripes. They have not been closed nor bound up nor soothed with oil.

¹³ In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you and you were not cleansed, you will not be cleansed from your filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.
¹⁴ I, Jehovah, have spoken it. It will happen and I will do it. I will not go back. I will neither spare, nor will I relent. According to your ways and according to your practices, they will judge you, says the lord Jehovah.

²⁰ For everyone who is practicing evil, hates the light, and is not coming to the light, in order that his works should not convict him.

⁷ The world is not able to hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying concerning it, that its works are evil.

⁷ But Jehovah said to Samuel, Do not look on his countenance, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For Jehovah sees not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks on the heart.

³⁰ then hear you from heaven your dwelling-place and forgive and render to every man according to all his ways, whose heart you know, (for you, even you only, know the hearts of the sons of men),

⁶ Sheol is naked before God and Abaddon has no covering.

⁹ O let the evil of the wicked man come to an end, but establish the righteous man. For the righteous God tries the minds and hearts.

²¹ will not God search this out? Because he knows the secrets of the heart.

⁸ If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there.

²⁰ Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied and the eyes of man are never satisfied.

¹⁰ I, Jehovah, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his practices.

²⁴ But Jesus himself was not entrusting himself to them, because he knew all men, \ulnone\nosupersub ²⁵ and because he had no need that anyone should testify concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.

¹⁷ He says to him the third-time, Simon, Son of Jonah, Do you ^{F} love me?
Peter was sorrowful because he said to him the third-time, Do you ^{F} love me like a friend? And he said to him, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you like a friend.
Jesus says to him, Feed my sheep.

¹⁸ and the Living One, and I became dead and behold, I am living forevermore and I have the keys of death and of Hades. Amen.

²³ And I will be killing her children with death, and all the congregations will know that I am he who is searching the kidneys and hearts and I will be giving to you, each one according to your works.

⁷ And the King of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, but I hate him. For he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil; the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Do not let the king say so.

¹⁴ And they say to God, Depart from us, for we do not desire the knowledge of your ways.

⁷ He who disciplines a scoffer gets himself reviling. And he who reproves a wicked man gets himself a bruise. ⁸ Reprove not a scoffer, lest he hate you.
Reprove a wise man and he will love you.

¹⁰ There is grievous correction for him who forsakes the way. He who hates reproof will die.

¹⁰ They hate he who reproves in the gate and they abhor he who speaks uprightly.

¹⁸ He who believes in him is not judged. He who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
¹⁹ Now this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil. ²⁰ For everyone who is practicing evil, hates the light, and is not coming to the light, in order that his works should not convict him. ²¹ But he who practices the truth comes to the light, in order that his works should be manifest, that they have been worked in God.

³ For the time will be coming when they will not be tolerating the sound teaching, but having itchy ears, they will be piling up for themselves teachers according to their own lusts;

² And the king said to me, Why is your countenance sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very much afraid.

²⁵ Heaviness in the heart of a man makes it droop, but a good word makes it glad.

¹⁵ All the days of the afflicted are evil, but he who is of a cheerful heart has a continual feast.

²² A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.

¹ Do not let your heart be disturbed; you believe in God, believe also in me.

¹² For this is our boasting, the testimony of our conscience, that in clarity and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we conducted ourselves in the world and even-more toward you.

⁷ so-that you, rather instead, are to forgive him and to encourage him, lest such a one might be swallowed up with his sorrow even-more.

¹⁰ For the sorrow which is according to the will of God is working unregrettable repentance for salvation, but the sorrow of the world is working death.

⁶ And Solomon said, You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, just-as he walked before you in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with you. And you have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne as it is this day. ⁷ And now, O Jehovah my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. And I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ And your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to judge this your great people?
¹⁰ And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said to him, Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, ¹² behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart, so that there has been none like you before you, neither after you will any arise like you.

⁹⁷ O how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.

¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the aged because I have kept your precepts.

⁵ that the wise man may hear and increase in learning and that the man of understanding may attain to sound-wisdom,

⁹ Give opportunity to a wise man and he will be yet wiser. Teach a righteous man and he will increase in learning.

¹⁵ The heart of a prudent man gets knowledge and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

¹⁰ who say to the seers, Do not see and to the prophets, Do not prophesy to us right things. Speak to us smooth things. Prophesy deceits.

²⁰ He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside. And he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

¹ Ephraim feeds on wind and follows after the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. And they make a covenant with Assyria and oil is carried into Egypt.

¹¹ Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they accepted the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see if these things were so.

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Glory is to him, both now and toward the final day of this world. Amen.

³⁵ And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted and he said, For I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning. And his father wept for him.

⁹ And Jacob said to Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

⁷ Because we are consumed in your anger and in your wrath are we troubled. ⁸ You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your countenance.
⁹ Because all our days are passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh.

¹³ A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

²² Understanding is a well-spring of life to him who has it, but the correction of fools is folly.

²⁵ But toward midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God and the prisoners were their audience;

² through whom we also have had our access to this grace in the faith in which we are standing, and we are boasting in hope of the glory of God. ³ But not only in this, but we are also boasting in our afflictions, knowing that affliction is working endurance;

¹¹ and not only so, but we are also boasting in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

¹² rejoicing in the hope; enduring in your affliction; persevering in your prayer;

⁵ Because just-as the sufferings of the Christ abound to us, so our encouragement also abounds through the Christ.

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet even habitually rejoicing; as poor, yet enriching many; as having nothing and yet having all things.

⁶ In which hope you are glad now for a few moments, if it is essential, you have been made sorrowful in various tests, ⁷ in order that the trial of your faith, ( being much more precious than gold, which perishes), even now being tested through fire, may be found for praise and honor and to glory in the revelation of Jesus Christ.
⁸ You love whom you have not seen; now you believe in whom you do not see; in both you are glad with unspeakable and glorified joy;

¹³ But accordingly you are sharing in the sufferings of the Christ with us, rejoice, in order that you may also rejoice in the revelation of his glory, being glad.

⁶ Better is the poor man who walks in his integrity, than he who is perverse in his ways, though he is rich.

¹⁰ And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any joy. Because my heart rejoiced because of all my labor and this was my portion from all my labor.
¹¹ Then I looked on all the works that my hands had worked and on the labor that I had labored to do, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind and there was no profit under the sun.

¹⁸ And I hated all my labor in which I labored under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who will be after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have rule over all my labor in which I have labored and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.
²⁰ Therefore I turned around to cause my heart to despair concerning all the labor in which I had labored under the sun.
²¹ Because there is a man whose labor is with wisdom and with knowledge and with skillfulness, yet he will leave it to a man who has not labored in it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
²² Because what has a man of all his labor and of the striving of his heart in which he labors under the sun? ²³ Because all his tasks are but sorrows and his travail is grief, yes, even in the night his heart takes no rest. This also is vanity.

¹⁰ He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver, nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity. ¹¹ When goods increase, they are increased who eat them. And what advantage is there to the owner of it, except the beholding of them with his eyes?
¹² The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the fullness of the rich will not allow him to sleep.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is a great method to earnings;

¹ Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!
² It is like the precious oil upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard, that came down upon the skirt of his garments, ³ like the dew of Hermon, that comes down upon the mountains of Zion. Because there Jehovah commanded the blessing, even life everlasting.

¹ Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it, than a house full of feasting with strife.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and angry woman.

⁴ Again he sent forth other bondservants, saying, Say to those who have been invited, Behold, I prepared my meal; my oxen and my fattened calves have been sacrificed, and all things are prepared. Come-here to the marriage-feast.

²³ and when you have brought the fattened calf, sacrifice it, and when we eat it, we should be joyous.

¹ Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affections and mercies,

¹⁶ And we have known and have believed the love which God has in us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God and God abides in him.

⁸ And Abram said to Lot, I beseech you, let there be no strife between me and you and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, in that we are men– brothers. ⁹ Is not the whole land before you? I beseech you, separate yourself from me. If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

²⁴ And she fell at his feet and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me be the iniquity and I beseech you, let your handmaid speak in your ears and hear the words of your handmaid. ²⁵ I beseech you, do not let my lord regard this worthless fellow, even Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name and senselessness is with him. But I your handmaid saw not the young men of my lord whom you sent.
²⁶ Now therefore, my lord, as Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, since Jehovah has withheld you from blood guiltiness and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies and those who seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal. ²⁷ And now this present which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord.
²⁸ I beseech you, forgive the trespass of your handmaid. For Jehovah will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights the battles of Jehovah and evil will not be found in you all your days. ²⁹ And though men have risen up to pursue you and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with Jehovah your God. And the souls of your enemies, them he will sling out as from the hollow of a sling.
³⁰ And it will happen, when Jehovah will have done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you and will have appointed you prince over Israel, ³¹ that this will be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. And when Jehovah will have dealt well with my lord, then remember your handmaid.
³² And David said to Abigail, Praise Jehovah, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me, ³³ and your discretion is blessed and you are blessed, who have kept me this day from blood guiltiness and from avenging myself with my own hand. ³⁴ For in very deed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, lives, who has withheld me from hurting you, unless you had hastened and come to meet me, surely there had not been left to Nabal by the morning light so much as one who urinates on the wall.
³⁵ So David received from her hand what she had brought him. And he said to her, Go up in peace to your house. See, I have listened to your voice and have accepted your person.
³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he held a feast in his house like the feast of a king. And Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk. Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.
³⁷ And it happened in the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal, that his wife told him these things and his heart died within him and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it happened about ten days after, that Jehovah killed* Nabal, so that he died.
³⁹ And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Praise Jehovah, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal and has kept back his servant from evil and Jehovah has returned the evil-doing of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and spoke concerning Abigail, to take her to him as a wife.
⁴⁰ And when the servants of David came to Abigail to Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, David has sent us to you, to take you to him as a wife. ⁴¹ And she arose and bowed herself with her face to the earth and said, Behold, your handmaid is a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.
⁴² And Abigail hastened and arose and rode upon a donkey, with five of her maidens who followed her. And she went after the messengers of David and became his wife. ⁴³ David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel and they became his wives, both of them.
⁴⁴ Now Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.

⁴³ And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, We have ten parts in the king and we have also more right in David than you*. Why then did you* despise us, that our advice should not be had first in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

²⁹ He who is slow to anger is of great understanding, but he who is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

¹ A soft answer turns away wrath, but a grievous word stirs up anger.

²⁸ A perverse man scatters abroad strife and a whisperer separates chief friends.

²¹ As coals are to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to inflame strife.

⁴ If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, do not leave your place, because healing rest great offenses.

⁹ The peacemakers are fortunate, because they will be called sons of God.

¹ Now in the days when the disciples were multiplying, there became a murmuring from the Grecian Jews aimed toward the Hebrews, because their widows were being left unattended in the daily service. ² Now the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them and said, It is not pleasing to God for us to have left the word of God to serve tables. ³ Therefore brethren, elect out of you seven men well testified of, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we might designate over this need. ⁴ But we will be persevering in prayer and in the service of the word. ⁵ And the speech pleased the whole multitude and they themselves chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolaus a Jewish-convert from Antioch;

¹⁹ So-then my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. ²⁰ For the wrath of man is not working out the righteousness of God.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not a wisdom coming down from above, but is earthly, physical, demonic. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is unrest and every evil matter.

¹ And all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried and the people wept that night. ² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. And the whole congregation said to them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt, or would that we had died in this wilderness! ³ And why does Jehovah bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey. Were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

⁷ And they spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. ⁸ If Jehovah delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Only do not rebel against Jehovah, neither fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their defense is removed from over them and Jehovah is with us. Fear them not.

⁸ Lead me, O Jehovah, in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your way straight before my face.

⁸ Good and upright is Jehovah. Therefore he will instruct sinners in the way. ⁹ The meek he will guide in justice and the meek he will teach his way.

¹² What man is he who fears Jehovah? Him he will instruct in the way that he will choose.

¹¹ Teach me your way, O Jehovah and lead me in a plain path, because of my enemies.

⁶ Acknowledge him in all your ways and he will direct your paths.

⁹ They are all straightforward to him who understands and right to those who find knowledge.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of a perverse man. He who keeps his soul will be far from them.

¹³ The sluggard says, There is a lion outside. I will be slain in the streets.

¹³ The sluggard says, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

²¹ And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk you* in it when you* turn to the right hand and when you* turn to the left.

⁸ And a highway will be there and a way. And it will be called The way of holiness. The unclean will not pass over it, but it will be for the redeemed, the wayfaring men. Yes fools will not go-astray in it.

¹⁴ And he will say, Cast you* up, cast you* up, prepare the way. Take up the stumbling-block out of the way of my people.

¹² Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Jehovah your God gives you.

³ Every man will fear his mother and his father. And you* will keep my Sabbaths. I am Jehovah your* God.

⁴⁸ And also thus said the king, Praise Jehovah, the God of Israel, who has given one of my seed to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.

⁹ Now therefore do not hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man and you will know what you ought to do to him and you will bring his hoar head down to Sheol with blood.

⁷ And it happened, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly and said, Praise Jehovah this day, who has given to David a wise son over this great people.

¹⁵ My son, if your heart is wise, my heart will be glad, even mine. ¹⁶ Yes, my heart will rejoice when your lips speak in uprightness.

²² Listen to your father who fathered you and do not despise your mother because she is old.

³ He who loves wisdom delights his father, but he who keeps company with prostitutes wastes his substance.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks at his father and despises to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out and the young eagles will eat it.

²² But you know the trial of him, that as a child serves a father, so he served together with me for the good-news.

²⁸ And to man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹⁰ The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom and all who act accordingly have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever.

²³ It is as sport to a fool to do mischief and so is wisdom to a man of understanding.

¹² He who despises his neighbor is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding holds his peace.

⁹ Fools mock at sin, but among the upright there is good will.

¹⁶ A wise man fears and departs from evil, but the fool bears himself insolently and is confident.

¹⁸ As a madman who casts firebrands, arrows and death, ¹⁹ so is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, Am I not amusing?

¹⁵ Therefore beware, how accurately you are walking, not as unwise, but as wise;

¹³ Who is wise and knowledgeable among you? Let him show out of his good conduct his works in meekness of wisdom.

¹⁴ Where no wise guidance is, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

¹⁸ Every purpose is established by counsel and make war with wise guidance.

⁶ Because to every purpose there is a time and decision, although the distress of man is great upon him.

¹⁴ A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth and the actions of a man's hands will be rendered to him.

¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings and they love he who speaks right.

²⁶ He who gives a right answer kisses the lips.

¹ There is a season for everything and a time for every purpose under heaven:

¹¹ You made known to me the path of life. You will fill me of joy with your countenance.

²⁴ and see if there is any wicked way in me. And lead me in the way everlasting.

¹⁸ (because her house inclines to death and her paths to the dead;

⁵ Her feet go down to death. Her steps take hold on Sheol,

²⁷ Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

⁸ Reprove not a scoffer, lest he hate you.
Reprove a wise man and he will love you.

¹⁴ You will beat him with the rod and will deliver his soul from Sheol.

⁸ And you will say to this people, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I set before you* the way of life and the way of death.

¹⁴ Why is it? Narrow is the gate and pressed is the way, which is leading to life and few are those who are finding it.

⁶ Jesus says to him, I am the way and the truth and the life; no one is coming to the Father, except through me.

²⁰ For our citizenship exists in the heavens; out of which we are also waiting for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹ Therefore, if you were raised up together with the Christ, seek the things which are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. ² Be mindful of the things which are above, not the things which are upon the earth.

¹⁷ For Jehovah your* God, he is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty and the awesome, who regards not persons, nor takes reward.
¹⁸ He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the traveler in giving him food and garments.

¹⁴ You will not remove your neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set, in your inheritance which you will inherit, in the land that Jehovah your God gives you to possess it.

¹¹ Pour forth the overflowing of your anger and look upon everyone who is proud and humble him.
¹² Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low and tread down the wicked where they stand. ¹³ Hide them in the dust together. Bind their faces in the hidden place.

¹ Why boast you yourself in mischief, O mighty man? The loving kindness of God is continual.

⁵ God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up and pluck you out of your tent and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁵ A father of the fatherless and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. ⁶ God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners into prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

⁶ Because Jehovah is high, yet he has respect to the lowly. But he knows the haughty from afar.

⁹ Jehovah preserves the travelers. He upholds the fatherless and widow. But the way of the wicked he turns upside down.

⁷ The wicked are overthrown and are not, but the house of the righteous will stand.

¹¹ The house of the wicked will be overthrown, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

¹⁰ Do not remove the ancient landmark. And do not enter into the fields of the fatherless,

¹² For there will be a day of Jehovah of hosts upon all that is proud and haughty and upon all that is lifted up and it will be brought low,

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne. And they took his glory from him,

²⁷ A clean and undefiled religion with our God and Father is this: to ^{F} visit ^{F} the orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

⁵ Likewise, the younger ones, be subject to the elder ones. But all of you be subject to one another, clothe yourselves with humility, because ‘God resists the haughty, but is giving grace to the humble.’

¹⁴ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Jehovah, my rock and my redeemer.

³⁰ The mouth of a righteous man talks of wisdom and his tongue speaks justice. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart. None of his steps will slide.

¹⁶ There are six things which Jehovah hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to him: ¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue and hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked purposes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, ¹⁹ a false witness who breathes-out lies and he who sows discord among brothers.

⁹ The thought of folly is sin. And the scoffer is an abomination to men.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long will your evil thoughts lodge within you?

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How are you, being evil, able to speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth is speaking. ³⁵ The good man out of his good treasure is casting out good things and the evil man out of his evil treasure is casting out evil things. ³⁶ But I am saying to you, that every idle declaration, whatever men speak, they will be giving an account in the day of judgment concerning it. ³⁷ For you will be made righteous from your words and you will be sentenced from your words.

¹⁹ For out of the heart comes forth evil reasonings, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies.

²¹ Moreover you will provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating unjust gain and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties and rulers of tens,

⁸ And you will take no bribe, because a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.

²⁶ And you will not bring an abomination into your house and become a devoted thing like it. You will make it an abomination and you will utterly abhor it, for it is a cursed thing.

¹⁹ You will not distort justice. You will not respect persons, neither will you take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

¹⁸ But as for you*, only keep yourselves from what is set apart, lest when you* have set it apart, you* take from what is set apart. So you* would make the camp of Israel accursed and trouble it.

¹¹ Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken from what was set apart and have also stolen and also dissembled. And they have even put it among their own stuff.
¹² Therefore the sons of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies because they have become accursed. I will not be with you* any more unless you* destroy what was set apart from among you*.

²⁴ And Joshua and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah and the silver and the mantle and the wedge of gold and his sons and his daughters and his oxen and his donkeys and his sheep and his tent and all that he had and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.
²⁵ And Joshua said, Why have you troubled us? Jehovah will trouble you this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.

³ And his sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after dishonest gain and took bribes and perverted justice. ⁴ Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together and came to Samuel to Ramah. ⁵ And they said to him, Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make for us a king to judge us like all the nations.

²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman will cling to you and to your seed everlasting. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone who is greedy of gain. It takes away the life of the owners of it.

¹⁹ He who is steadfast in righteousness comes to life and he who pursues evil comes to his own death.

²⁹ He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind. And a foolish man will be servant to a wise man of heart.

²¹ An inheritance gotten hastily at the beginning will not be praised in the end.

¹⁶ The ruler who lacks understanding is also a great oppressor, but he who hates covetousness will prolong his days.

⁴ The king establishes the land by justice, but he who exacts gifts overthrows it.

⁸ Woe to those who join house to house, who lay field to field, till there is no room and you* are made to dwell alone in the midst of the land! ⁹ In my ears says Jehovah of hosts, of a truth many houses will be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant. ¹⁰ For ten acres of vineyard will yield one 9-gallon container and a homer of seed will yield but an ephah.

¹⁵ He who walks righteously and speaks in uprightness. He who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes away his hands from taking a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of blood and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil.
¹⁶ He will dwell on high. His place of defense will be the munitions of rocks. His bread will be given. His waters will be sure.

¹¹ As the partridge that sits on eggs which she has not laid, so is he who gets riches and not by right. In the midst of his days they will leave him and at his end he will be a fool.

⁹ Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil! ¹⁰ You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples and have sinned against your soul. ¹¹ For the stone will cry out of the wall and the beam out of the timber will answer it.

³ Then he said to me, This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole land. For everyone who steals will be cut off on the one side according to it and everyone who swears will be cut off on the other side according to it. ⁴ I will cause it to go forth, says Jehovah of hosts and it will enter into the house of the thief and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name. And it will abide in the midst of his house and will consume it, with the timber of it and the stones of it.

²³ Then the king said, The one says, This is my son that lives and your son is the dead. And the other says, No, but your son is the dead and my son is the living. ²⁴ And the king said, Fetch me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. ²⁵ And the king said, Divide the living child in two and give half to the one and half to the other.
²⁶ Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son and she said, Oh, my lord, give her the living child and by no means kill it. But the other said, It will be neither mine nor your. Divide it. ²⁷ Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child and by no means kill it; she is the mother of it.
²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged. And they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.

¹⁹ Transgression is not lacking in the multitude of words, but he who refrains his lips does wisely.

² The tongue of the wise utters knowledge rightly, but the mouth of fools pours out folly.

¹¹ A fool utters all his anger, but a wise man keeps it back and calms it.

²⁰ See a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

² Do not be rash with your mouth and do not let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God. Because God is in heaven and you upon earth. Therefore let your words be few.

⁶ Do not allow your mouth to cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger, that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands?

¹² The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool will swallow himself up. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
¹⁴ A fool also multiplies words; yet man does not know what will be and what will be after him, who can tell him?

¹⁰ For there are many even rebellious men, empty-talkers and deceivers, especially those out of the circumcision, ¹¹ whom it is essential to gag; men who are perverting whole houses, teaching things which they ought not teach, because of shameful gain.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, the world of unrighteousness. Thus the tongue is designated among our members as what stains the whole body and ignites the birth cycle and is ignited by hell. ⁷ For every nature of beasts and birds, of reptiles and sea-creatures, is tamed and has been tamed by human nature. ⁸ But no one from mankind is able to tame the tongue; it is an uncontrollable evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁵ but make the Lord God holy in your hearts, and be ready habitually with a defense to everyone who is asking you for a reason concerning the hope which is in you, with meekness and fear;

¹⁸ For while speaking flattering-words of futility, they entice (with the lusts of the flesh to unbridled-lusts) those who really had fled away from those who conduct themselves in error.

¹ Why do you stand afar off, O Jehovah? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

⁴¹ They cried, but there was none to save, even to Jehovah, but he answered them not.

¹⁵ The eyes of Jehovah are toward the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer. ¹⁶ (The face of Jehovah is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.)
¹⁷ They cried and Jehovah heard and delivered them out of all their troubles.

¹⁸ If I regard wickedness in my heart, the Lord will not hear. ¹⁹ But truly God has heard. He has attended to the voice of my prayer.

²⁷ Because behold, those who are far from you will perish. You have destroyed all those who play the prostitute from you.

¹⁸ Jehovah is near to all those who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth.
¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him. He also will hear their cry and will save them.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

⁸ For my thoughts are not your* thoughts, nor are your* ways my ways, says Jehovah. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your* ways and my thoughts than your* thoughts.

⁴⁶ And these will be going away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into everlasting life.

³¹ But we know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and if he is practicing his will, he hears him.

²⁶ Now likewise, the Spirit is also jointly helping our weaknesses; for we do not know what we are praying for, that is according to what is essential for us; but the Spirit himself is petitioning on our behalf with unspeakable groans; ²⁷ and he who is searching the hearts knows what the mindset of the Spirit is, because he is petitioning on behalf of the holy-ones according to the will of God.

¹² that you were separate from Christ at the time, having been alienated from the citizenship of Israel and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and were godless in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you who were previously from afar have become near to him in the blood of the Christ.

¹⁶ Therefore confess your trespasses to one another, and pray on behalf of one another, that you may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man prevails; much in its working. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man of like-feelings to us and he prayed with much prayer that it might not rain, and it did not rain upon the land for three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rainfall and the land sprouted her fruit.

¹² because the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and his ears are toward their supplication. But the face of the Lord is against those who are practicing evil.

⁸ And now for a little moment favor has been shown from Jehovah our God, to leave us a remnant to escape and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

¹⁵ The people who know the shout of you are fortunate. O Jehovah, they walk in the light of your countenance.

⁸ It will be health to your navel and marrow to your bones.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked will be put out.

²⁵ As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

⁷ Truly the light is sweet and it is a pleasant thing for the eyes to behold the sun.

¹¹ And Jehovah will guide you continually and satisfy your soul in dry places and make strong your bones. And you will be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters fail not.

¹⁰ And the messenger said to them, Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good-news of great joy which will be to all the people, ¹¹ because there was born to you today in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. ¹² And this is the sign to you : you will be finding a swaddled baby, laying in a manger. ¹³ And suddenly, a multitude of the heavenly army praising God happened to be together with the messenger, and saying, ¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, and peace upon earth, in men–delight. ¹⁵ And it happened, as the messengers went away from them into heaven, and the men, the shepherds, said to one another, We should go through, insofar as Bethlehem, and let us see this declaration about events that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us!
¹⁶ And they came, having hurried, and found both Mary and Joseph and the baby laying in the manger. ¹⁷ Now having seen this, they made it known concerning the declaration which was spoken to them concerning this child. ¹⁸ And all who heard it marveled concerning the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds. ¹⁹ But Mary was keeping all these words to herself, pondering them in her heart.

²³ And the city has no need of the sun, neither of the moon, in order that they should appear in it; for the glory of God illuminated it and its lamp is the Lamb.

⁵ And there will be no night there, and they do not need a lamp or a light, because the Lord God will be illuminating them and they will be reigning forevermore.

⁸ Reprove not a scoffer, lest he hate you.
Reprove a wise man and he will love you. ⁹ Give opportunity to a wise man and he will be yet wiser. Teach a righteous man and he will increase in learning.

²⁰ Walk with wise men and you will be wise. But the companion of fools will be evil for it.

⁵ A fool despises his father's correction, but he who regards reproof gets prudence.

³ Incline your* ear and come to me. Hear and your* soul will live. And I will make an everlasting covenant with you*, even the faithful holy things of David.

³ Already you are clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. ⁴ Abide in me and I in you. Just-as the branch is not able to bring forth fruit from itself, if it does not abide in the vine; so neither can you if you do not abide in me.

¹⁹ They went out away from us, but they were not from us; for if they had been from us, they would have remained with us, but they went out, in order that they might be made manifest that all of them are not from us.

¹⁸ If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and though they discipline him, will not listen to them,

²⁰ And they will say to the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice. He is a glutton and a drunkard.

¹⁷ since you hate instruction and cast my words behind you?

⁷ The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge. The foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

²⁴ Because I have called and you* have refused, I have stretched out my hand and no man has regarded, ²⁵ but you* have made all my counsel void and want none of my reproof, ²⁶ I also will laugh at your* calamity. I will mock when your* fear comes, ²⁷ when your* fear comes as a storm and your* calamity comes on as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you*.
²⁸ Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me, ²⁹ because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of Jehovah.
³⁰ They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof. ³¹ Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own devices.
³² Because the backsliding of the simple will kill them and the careless ease of fools will destroy them.
³³ But he who listens to me will dwell securely and will be quiet without fear of evil.

¹¹ and you mourn at your latter end when your flesh and your body are consumed, ¹² and say, How I have hated instruction and my heart despised reproof. ¹³ Neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!

³³ Hear instruction and be wise and do not refuse it.
³⁴ The man who hears me is fortunate, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. ³⁵ Because he who finds me finds life and will obtain favor of Jehovah.
³⁶ But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul.
All those who hate me love death.

¹⁴ The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.

²¹ Folly is joy to him who is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding makes his going straight.

¹⁶ Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?

¹ He who, being often reproved, hardens his neck will suddenly be destroyed and that without remedy.

⁵ Why will you* still be stricken, that you* revolt more and more? The whole head is sick and the whole heart faint.

³ O Jehovah, do not your eyes look upon truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

²⁴ Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and practices them, he will be similar to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock; ²⁵ and the rain came down and the rivers came up and the winds blew and fell down upon that house, and it did not fall; for it had been founded upon the rock. ²⁶ And everyone hearing these words of mine and who is not doing them, will be similar to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; ²⁷ and the rain came down and the rivers came up and the winds blew and hit that house and it fell and great was its fall.

¹⁵ exercising the oversight of yourselves lest there is anyone who comes-short, away from the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing upward, might trouble you, and many may be defiled through this;

²² But become doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.

¹¹ Come, you* children, listen to me. I will teach you* the fear of Jehovah.

¹³ The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil. I hate: pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth.

¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty and before honor is humility.

⁶ Do not put yourself forward in the presence of the king and stand not in the place of great men. ⁷ Because it is better that it is said to you, Come up here, than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen.

²³ A man's pride will bring him low, but he who is of a lowly spirit will obtain honor.

¹¹ Because everyone who is exalting himself will be humbled, and he who is humbling himself will be exalted.

⁵ For let this mindset be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: ⁶ who, existing in the form of God, did not deem it a seizure to be equal to God, ⁷ but emptied himself, having taken the form of a bondservant, having become in the likeness of men; ⁸ and having been found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, having become obedient as far as death, and even death from a cross. ⁹ Hence, God also highly exalted him, and granted to him the name which is above every name; ¹⁰ in order that every knee should bow in the name of Jesus, those from the heavenly and earthly and subterranean places, ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and he will be exalting you.
