¹ And the sons of Israel journeyed and encamped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho. ² And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. ³ And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people, because they were many. And Moab was distressed because of the sons of Israel.
⁴ And Moab said to the elders of Midian, Now will this multitude lick up all that is all around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was King of Moab at that time.
⁵ And he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, which is by the River, to the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, a people came out from Egypt. Behold, they cover the face of the earth and they abide opposite me. ⁶ Therefore, I beseech you, come now, curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I will prevail, that we may kill* them and that I may drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed and he whom you curse is cursed.
⁷ And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand and they came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak. ⁸ And he said to them, Lodge here this night and I will bring you* word again, as Jehovah will speak to me. And the rulers of Moab abode with Balaam.
⁹ And God came to Balaam and said, What men are these with you? ¹⁰ And Balaam said to God, Balak the son of Zippor, King of Moab, has sent to me, saying, ¹¹ Behold, the people came out of Egypt, it covers the face of the earth. Now, come curse them for me. Perhaps I will be able to fight against them and will drive them out. ¹² And God said to Balaam, You will not go with them. You will not curse the people, for they are blessed.
¹³ And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the rulers of Balak, Get into your* land, for Jehovah refuses to give me leave to go with you*. ¹⁴ And the rulers of Moab rose up and they went to Balak and said, Balaam refuses to come with us.
¹⁵ And Balak sent yet again rulers, more and more honorable than they. ¹⁶ And they came to Balaam and said to him, Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, I beseech you, let nothing hinder you from coming to me. ¹⁷ For I will promote you to very great honor and whatever you say to me I will do. Therefore, I beseech you, come curse this people for me.
¹⁸ And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah my God, to do less or more. ¹⁹ Now therefore, I beseech you*, abide also here this night, that I may know what Jehovah will speak to me more.
²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them, but only the word which I speak to you, that will you do. ²¹ And Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his donkey and went with the rulers of Moab.
²² And God's anger was kindled because he went and the messenger of Jehovah placed himself in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his donkey and his two servants were with him. ²³ And the donkey saw the messenger of Jehovah standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand and the donkey turned aside out of the way and went into the field. And Balaam killed* the donkey, to turn her into the way.
²⁴ Then the messenger of Jehovah stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, a wall being on this side and a wall on that side. ²⁵ And the donkey saw the messenger of Jehovah and she thrust herself to the wall and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall. And he killed* her again.
²⁶ And the messenger of Jehovah went further and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. ²⁷ And the donkey saw the messenger of Jehovah and she lay down under Balaam. And Balaam's anger was kindled and he killed* the donkey with his staff.
²⁸ And Jehovah opened the mouth of the donkey and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times? ²⁹ And Balaam said to the donkey, Because you have mocked me. I would there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you. ³⁰ And the donkey said to Balaam, Am not I your donkey, upon which you have ridden all your life long to this day? Was I ever accustomed to do so to you? And he said, No.
³¹ Then Jehovah opened the eyes of Balaam and he saw the messenger of Jehovah standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand. And he bowed his head and fell on his face.
³² And the messenger of Jehovah said to him, Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way is perverse before me. ³³ And the donkey saw me and turned aside before me these three times. Unless she had turned aside from me, surely now I would have even slain you and saved her alive.
³⁴ And Balaam said to the messenger of Jehovah, I have sinned, for I did not know that you stood in the way against me. Now therefore, if it displease you, I will get back again.
³⁵ And the messenger of Jehovah said to Balaam, Go with the men, but only the word that I will speak to you, that you will speak. So Balaam went with the rulers of Balak.
³⁶ And when Balak heard that Balaam came, he went out to meet him to the City of Moab, which is on the border of the Arnon, which is in the outmost part of the border. ³⁷ And Balak said to Balaam, Did I not earnestly send to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able indeed to promote you to honor? ³⁸ And Balaam said to Balak, Behold, I have come to you. Have I now any power at all to speak anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.
³⁹ And Balaam went with Balak and they came to Kiriath-huzoth. ⁴⁰ And Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep and sent to Balaam and to the rulers that were with him. ⁴¹ And it happened in the morning, that Balak took Balaam and brought him up into the high places of Baal and he saw from there the outmost part of the people.

²⁰ and from Bamoth to the valley which is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks down upon the desert.

¹⁹ For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and forward, because our inheritance has fallen to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.

⁴⁸ And they journeyed from the mountains of Abarim and encamped in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. ⁴⁹ And they encamped by the Jordan, from Beth-jeshimoth even to Abel-shittim in the plains of Moab.
⁵⁰ And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,

¹⁵ The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, toward the sunrise.

¹³ These are the commandments and the ordinances which Jehovah commanded by Moses to the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.

⁵ Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses began to declare this law, saying,

⁸ And we took the land at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, from the valley of the Arnon to Mount Hermon

¹ And Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is opposite Jericho. And Jehovah showed him all the land of Gilead, to Dan,

⁸ And the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. So the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

¹⁶ that the waters which came down from above, stood and rose up in one heap a great way off, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan and those that went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were entirely cut off. And the people passed over right against Jericho.

³ And Jehovah listened to the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites. And they utterly destroyed them and their cities. And the name of the place was called Hormah.

²⁰ and from Bamoth to the valley which is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks down upon the desert.
²¹ And Israel sent messengers to Sihon King of the Amorites, saying, ²² Let me pass through your land. We will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard. We will not drink of the water of the wells. We will go by the king's highway, until we have passed your border. ²³ And Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border, but Sihon gathered all his people together and went out against Israel into the wilderness and came to Jahaz and he fought against Israel.
²⁴ And Israel killed* him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the sons of Ammon, for the border of the sons of Ammon was strong. ²⁵ And Israel took all these cities. And Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon and in all the towns of it. ²⁶ For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the King of the Amorites, who had fought against the former King of Moab and had taken all his land out of his hand, even to the Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore those who speak in proverbs say, Come you* to Heshbon. Let the city of Sihon be built and established. ²⁸ For a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has devoured Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of the Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh. He has given his sons as fugitives and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon King of the Amorites. ³⁰ We have shot at them. Heshbon has perished even to Dibon and we have laid waste even to Nophah, which reaches to Medeba.
³¹ Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites. ³² And Moses sent to spy out Jazer. And they took the towns of it and drove out the Amorites that were there.
³³ And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan. And Og the King of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. ³⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Fear him not, for I have delivered him into your hand and all his people and his land. And you will do to him as you did to Sihon King of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon. ³⁵ So they killed* him and his sons and all his people, until there was none left to him remaining. And they possessed his land.

²⁵ And now are you anything better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever contend against Israel, or did he ever fight against them?

¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed, the mighty men of Moab. Trembling takes hold upon them. All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away.

²⁵ This day I will begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you upon the peoples who are under the whole heaven, who will hear the report of you and will tremble and be in anguish because of you.

¹⁰ For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you* when you* came out of Egypt and what you* did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you* utterly destroyed. ¹¹ And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man because of you*, for Jehovah your* God, he is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

²⁴ And they said to Joshua, Truly Jehovah has delivered into our hands all the land and moreover all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.

²⁴ And they answered Joshua and said, Because it was certainly told your servants, how that Jehovah your God commanded his servant Moses to give you* all the land and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you*. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you* and have done this thing.

⁵ They were in great fear there, where no fear was, for God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against you. You have put them to shame because God has rejected them.

⁵ When the report comes to Egypt, they will be greatly pained at the report of Tyre.

² And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

⁷ And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand and they came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak.

¹⁷ I see him, but not now. I behold him, but not near. There will come out a star out of Jacob and a scepter will rise out of Israel and will kill* through the corners of Moab and break down all the sons of tumult.

¹⁵ And the name of the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur. He was head of the people of a fathers' house in Midian.
¹⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁷ Distress the Midianites and kill* them, ¹⁸ for they distress you* with their wiles, with which they have beguiled you* in the matter of Peor and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the ruler of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.

⁸ And they killed the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.

²¹ and all the cities of the plain and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses killed* with the chiefs of Midian, Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, the rulers of Sihon who dwelt in the land.
²² The sons of Israel also killed Balaam the son of Beor, the enchanter, with the sword among the rest of their slain.

³⁸ On all the housetops of Moab and in the streets of it, there is lamentation everywhere.
For I have broken Moab like a vessel of which none delights, says Jehovah.

¹⁶ And I will make your seed like the dust of the earth. So that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then may your seed also be numbered.

⁷ And the sons of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly and multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty and the land was filled with them.
⁸ Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. ⁹ And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more and mightier than we. ¹⁰ Come, let us deal craftily with them, lest they multiply and it happen, that, when war happens, they also join themselves to our enemies and fight against us and get them up out of the land.

⁷ And he took up his oracle and said, From Aram Balak has brought me, the King of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me and come, defy Israel.

⁴ because they met you* not with bread and with water on the way, when you* came forth out of Egypt and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you.

²² The sons of Israel also killed Balaam the son of Beor, the enchanter, with the sword among the rest of their slain.

⁹ Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel. And he sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you*,

¹ On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people and in it was found written that an Ammonite and a Moabite should not enter into the assembly of God everlasting, ² because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, to curse them. However our God turned the curse into a blessing.

²⁴ And he increased his people greatly and made them stronger than their adversaries.

⁵ O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab devised and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him. Remember from Shittim to Gilgal, that you* may know the righteous acts of Jehovah.

¹⁵ having left the straight way. They were misled, having followed in the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ but he had his reproof from his own violation of the law: a voiceless donkey, having spoken in a human voice, forbade the insanity of the prophet.

¹¹ Woe to them! Because they traveled in the way of Cain and poured themselves into the error of Balaam’s reward and perished in the dispute of Korah.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you, because you have there some holding-fast the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast an offense in the sight the sons of Israel, even to eat idol-sacrifices and to fornicate.

³ And I will bless those who bless you and he who curses you I will curse. And all the families of the earth will be blessed in you.

²⁹ Let peoples serve you and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers and let your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed is he who curses you and blessed is he who graces you.

¹² And God said to Balaam, You will not go with them. You will not curse the people, for they are blessed.

¹⁷ For I will promote you to very great honor and whatever you say to me I will do. Therefore, I beseech you, come curse this people for me.

⁷ And he took up his oracle and said, From Aram Balak has brought me, the King of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me and come, defy Israel. ⁸ How shall I curse, whom God has not cursed? And how shall I defy, whom Jehovah has not defied?

⁹ He couched, he lay down as a lion and as a lioness. Who will rouse him up? He who graces you is blessed, And he who curses you is cursed.

⁴³ And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

⁶ Then the King of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.

⁸ And the King of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Do not let the king say so.

¹³ And the messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. I beseech you, let your word be like the word of one of them and speak good.

² because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, to curse them. However our God turned the curse into a blessing.

¹⁷ Yes, he loved cursing and it came to him. And he did not delight in blessing and it was far from him.
¹⁸ He also clothed himself with cursing as with his garment and it came into his inward parts like water and like oil into his bones.

²⁸ Let them curse, but you bless. When they arise, they will be put to shame, but your servant will rejoice.

² As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, so the curse that is causeless does not come.

¹² Stand now with your enchantments and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth, perhaps you will be able to profit, perhaps you may prevail. ¹³ You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the star-gazers, the knowers from the new moons, stand up and save you from the things that will come upon you.

⁶ They have seen falsehood and lying divination, who say, Jehovah says, but Jehovah has not sent them. And they have made men to hope that the word would be confirmed.

⁹ But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who was formerly in the city practicing-magic and astonishing the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was someone great. ¹⁰ To whom they were taking-heed, from the little to the great, saying, This one is the power of God, the Great.

¹⁶ Now it happened, while traveling to the place of prayer, that a certain maidservant encountered us, having a spirit of divination, who was providing her lords much business by fortune-telling.

²³ Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob, neither is there any divination with Israel. Now it will be said of Jacob and of Israel, What has God worked!

¹ And when Balaam saw that it pleased Jehovah to bless Israel, he did not go, as at the other times, to meet with omens, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

⁷ Then Saul said to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what will we bring the man? For the bread is spent in our vessels and there is not a present to bring to the man of God. What have we? ⁸ And the servant answered Saul again and said, Behold, I have in my hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver. I will give that to the man of God, to tell us our way.

¹¹ Yes, the dogs are greedy; they can never have enough. And these are shepherds who cannot understand. They have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.

¹⁹ And you* have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls who should not die and to save the souls alive who should not live, by your* lying to my people who listen to lies.

¹¹ The heads of it judge for a bribe and the priests of it teach for a wage and the prophets of it divine for money.
Yet they lean upon Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? No evil will come upon us.

¹⁸ For such are not serving our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and they are deceiving the hearts of the guiltless through their smooth-talk and blessings.

⁹ But those who are planning to be rich are falling into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, which are submerging men into utter-destruction and everlasting destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils; of which some aspiring to, have been misled from the faith and they themselves are staked-through by many sorrows.

¹¹ whom it is essential to gag; men who are perverting whole houses, teaching things which they ought not teach, because of shameful gain.

¹⁵ having left the straight way. They were misled, having followed in the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

⁶ And he said, Hear now my words. If there is a prophet among you*, I Jehovah will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream.

¹⁹ Now therefore, I beseech you*, abide also here this night, that I may know what Jehovah will speak to me more.
²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them, but only the word which I speak to you, that will you do.

¹² And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak what Jehovah puts in my mouth?

² You have planted them. Yes, they have taken root, they grow. Yes, they bring forth fruit. You are near in their mouth and far from their heart. But you, O Jehovah, know me. You see me and try my heart toward you.

³¹ And they come to you as the people come and they sit before you as my people. And they hear your words, but do not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.

⁹ And Jehovah God called to the man and said to him, Where are you?
¹⁰ And he said, I heard your sound in the garden and I was afraid, because I was naked. And I hid myself.
¹¹ And he said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you that you should not eat?

⁹ And Jehovah said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?

⁸ And he said, Hagar, Sarai's handmaid, from where have you come? And where are you going?
And she said, I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.

³ But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night and said to him, Behold, you are but a dead man, over the woman whom you have taken; she is a man's wife.

²⁴ And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream of the night and said to him, Take heed to yourself that you not speak to Jacob either good or bad.

²⁵ And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one; what God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh.

² And Jehovah said to him, What is that in your hand? And he said, A rod.

²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them, but only the word which I speak to you, that will you do.

¹⁴ Then Isaiah the prophet came to king Hezekiah and said to him, What did these men say and from where did they come to you? And Hezekiah said, They have come from a far country, even from Babylon. ¹⁵ And he said, What have they seen in your house? And Hezekiah answered, They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.

⁴⁵ Inasmuch as you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what will happen hereafter. And the dream is certain and the interpretation of it sure.

³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, a voice from heaven fell, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom is departed from you. ³² And you will be driven from men and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will be made to eat grass as oxen and seven times will pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.

²² Many will be saying to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not: prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and practice many miracles in your name?

²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will be giving great signs and wonders; so-then to mislead, if possible, even the chosen.

⁵¹ (Now he said this not from himself, but being high-priest of that year, he prophesied that Jesus was about to die on behalf of the nation;

² And I will make of you a great nation and I will bless you and make your name great and you will be a blessing.

¹⁶ and said, I have sworn by myself, says Jehovah, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, ¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless you and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is upon the sea _shore and your seed will possess the gate of his enemies ¹⁸ and in your seed will all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.

³ And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering and I will go. Perhaps Jehovah will come to meet me and whatever he shows me I will tell you. And he went to a bare height.

¹³ And Balak said to him, I beseech you, come with me to another place, from where you may see them. You will see but the outmost part of them and will not see them all and curse them for me from there. ¹⁴ And he took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah and built seven altars and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar. ¹⁵ And he said to Balak, Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet Jehovah yonder.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie, neither the son of man, that he should repent. Has he said and will he not do it? Or has he spoken and will he not make it good? ²⁰ Behold, I have received to bless. And he has blessed and I cannot reverse it.

⁵ Nevertheless Jehovah your God would not listen to Balaam, but Jehovah your God turned the curse into a blessing to you, because Jehovah your God loved you.

²⁹ You are fortunate, O Israel. Who is like you, a people saved by Jehovah, the shield of your help and the sword of your excellency! And your enemies will submit themselves to you and you will tread upon their high places.

¹⁵ In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumbering upon the bed.
¹⁶ Then he opens the ears of men and seals their instruction ¹⁷ that he may withdraw man from his purpose and hide pride from man.

¹⁵ the people who are in such a case are fortunate.
The people whose God is Jehovah are fortunate.

⁵ He who has the God of Jacob for his help is fortunate, whose hope is in Jehovah his God,

¹⁹ Now while sitting upon the judicial-seat, his wife sent to him, saying, Have nothing between you and that righteous man; for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of him.

⁶ Just-as David also says concerning the good-fortune of the man to whom God counts righteousness separate from works, ⁷ saying, ‘Those whose lawlessnesses are forgiven and whose sins are covered are fortunate.

²⁹ For the gifts and the calling of God are unregrettable.

³ The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is gracious, who has blessed us in every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

¹⁴ And the rulers of Moab rose up and they went to Balak and said, Balaam refuses to come with us.

¹³ And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the rulers of Balak, Get into your* land, for Jehovah refuses to give me leave to go with you*.

³⁷ And Balak said to Balaam, Did I not earnestly send to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able indeed to promote you to honor?

⁷ And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand and they came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak. ⁸ And he said to them, Lodge here this night and I will bring you* word again, as Jehovah will speak to me. And the rulers of Moab abode with Balaam.

⁷ Now as the messenger, the one who had been speaking to Cornelius, went away, he summoned two of his domestic servants and a devout soldier of those who are persevering with him; ⁸ and having described all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa.

⁶ Therefore, I beseech you, come now, curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I will prevail, that we may kill* them and that I may drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed and he whom you curse is cursed.

² And Balak did as Balaam had spoken. And Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram. ³ And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering and I will go. Perhaps Jehovah will come to meet me and whatever he shows me I will tell you. And he went to a bare height.

²⁹ And Balaam said to Balak, Build for me here seven altars and prepare for me here seven bullocks and seven rams. ³⁰ And Balak did as Balaam had said and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.

¹¹ Therefore now flee to your place. I thought to promote you to great honor, but behold, Jehovah has kept you back from honor.

⁹ You will number to you seven weeks. From the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain you will begin to number seven weeks.

¹¹ And Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches and the multitude of his sons and all the things in which the king had promoted him and how he had advanced him above the rulers and servants of the king.

⁹ Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were before the king said, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman has made for Mordecai, who spoke good for the king, stands in the house of Haman. And the king said, Hang him on it.

⁸ Again, the devil takes him to an exceedingly high mountain, and shows him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; ⁹ and I will be giving you all these things, if you fall down and worship me.

⁷ from where he confessed with an oath to give her whatever she asks of him.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and should forfeit his soul? Or what shall a man give as an exchange for his soul?

³⁸ And Balaam said to Balak, Behold, I have come to you. Have I now any power at all to speak anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.

²⁶ But Balaam answered and said to Balak, Did I not tell you, saying, All that Jehovah speaks, that I must do?

¹³ If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah, to do either good or bad of my own mind. What Jehovah speaks, that I will speak?

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, As Jehovah lives, what Jehovah says to me, that I will speak.

¹³ And Micaiah said, As Jehovah lives, what my God says, that will I speak.

¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let your gifts be to yourself and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation.

²⁰ But Peter said to him, May your silver together with you be sent into destruction, because you have thought to procure the gift of God through monies!

¹⁶ They profess to know God, but they are denying him by their works, being detestable and disobedient and unapproved toward every good work.

³ And in their greed, they will be merchants of you with fabricated words; to whom the condemnation from long-ago is not idle, and their destruction will not be slumbering.

³⁵ And the messenger of Jehovah said to Balaam, Go with the men, but only the word that I will speak to you, that you will speak. So Balaam went with the rulers of Balak.

⁵ And Jehovah put a word in Balaam's mouth and said, Return to Balak and thus you will speak.

¹⁶ And Jehovah met Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said, Return to Balak and thus will you speak.

⁵ And they said to him, Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make for us a king to judge us like all the nations.
⁶ But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed to Jehovah.
⁷ And Jehovah said to Samuel, Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.
⁸ According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me and served other gods, so do they also to you.
⁹ Now therefore listen to their voice. However you will protest solemnly to them and will show them the manner of the king who will reign over them.

¹² And when you* saw that Nahash the king of the sons of Ammon came against you*, you* said to me, No, but a king will reign over us, when Jehovah your* God was your* king.
¹³ Now therefore behold the king whom you* have chosen and whom you* have asked for. And behold, Jehovah has set a king over you*. ¹⁴ If you* will fear Jehovah and serve him and listen to his voice and not rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then both you* and also the king who reigns over you* will be followers of Jehovah your* God. ¹⁵ But if you* will not listen to the voice of Jehovah, but rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then the hand of Jehovah will be against you* as it was against your* fathers.
¹⁶ Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Jehovah will do before your* eyes. ¹⁷ Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call to Jehovah that he may send thunder and rain and you* will know and see that your* wickedness is great, which you* have done in the sight of Jehovah in asking a king for you*.
¹⁸ So Samuel called to Jehovah and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day. And all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel. ¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, Pray for your servants to Jehovah your God that we not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask a king for us.

¹⁰ Jehovah brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect. ¹¹ The counsel of Jehovah stands fast everlasting, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

³⁰ They were not estranged from what they desired. Their food was yet in their mouths ³¹ when the anger of God went up against them and killed of the fattest of them and killed* down the young men of Israel.

¹² So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart, that they might walk in their own counsels.

²⁹ Because of your raging against me and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

² And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ³ Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face. Should I be inquired of at all by them?
⁴ Therefore speak to them and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet, I Jehovah will answer him in it according to the multitude of his idols, ⁵ that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

¹¹ I have given you a king in my anger and have taken him away in my wrath.

⁹ even he, whose presence is according to the working of the Adversary in every power and in signs and in lying wonders, ¹⁰ and in all deception of unrighteousness in those who are perishing, because they did not accept the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God will be sending them a working of error, that they may believe in the lie; ¹² in order that they all might be judged who did not believe the truth, but were delighted in unrighteousness.

¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them. Restrain your foot from their path. ¹⁶ Because their feet run to evil and they make haste to shed blood.

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph and said, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has fed me all my life long to this day, ¹⁶ the messenger who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads and let my name be named on them and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

² And the messenger of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. And he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire and the bush was not consumed. ³ And Moses said, I will turn aside now and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
⁴ And when Jehovah saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here I am. ⁵ And he said, Do not draw near here. Put off your shoes from your feet, because the place on which you stand is holy ground. ⁶ Moreover he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look upon God.

²⁴ And it happened on the way at the lodging-place, that Jehovah met him and sought to kill him.

²⁰ Behold, I send a messenger before you, to keep you by the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.

³² And the messenger of Jehovah said to him, Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way is perverse before me.

²⁰ And Jehu said, Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.

⁴ He has bent his bow like an enemy. He has stood with his right hand as an adversary and has slain all who were pleasant to the eye. He has poured out his wrath like fire in the tent of the daughter of Zion.

⁴ And Jehovah said to him, Call his name Jezreel, for yet a little while and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu and will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease.

⁴ Yes, he had strength over the messenger and prevailed, as he wept and made supplication to him. He found him at Bethel and there he spoke with us. ⁵ Even Jehovah, the God of hosts, Jehovah is his memorial.

¹⁷ And Elisha prayed and said, Jehovah, I beseech you, open his eyes that he may see. And Jehovah opened the eyes of the young man and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

¹⁶ And David lifted up his eyes and saw the messenger of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

⁷ Yes, the stork in the heavens knows her appointed times and the turtledove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming, but my people do not know the law of Jehovah.

⁷ And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great quaking fell upon them and they fled to hide themselves.

⁹ But those who were together with me indeed saw the light and became fearful, but they did not hear with understanding the voice of the one who spoke to me.

²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world, in order that he might shame the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world, in order that he might shame the strong; ²⁸ and God chose the ignoble things of the world and the things which have been scorned and the things which are not, in order that he might do-away-with the things which are; ²⁹ that no flesh might boast in God’s sight.

¹⁶ but he had his reproof from his own violation of the law: a voiceless donkey, having spoken in a human voice, forbade the insanity of the prophet.

¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness and the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime and grope at noonday as in the night.
¹⁵ But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.

¹² Stand now with your enchantments and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth, perhaps you will be able to profit, perhaps you may prevail.

¹¹ Jehovah, your hand is lifted up, yet they do not see. But they will see your zeal for the people and be put to shame. Yes, fire will devour your adversaries.

⁶ Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns and I will build a wall against her, that she will not find her paths.

¹⁶ A wise man fears and departs from evil, but the fool bears himself insolently and is confident.

³ A stone is heavy and the sand weighty, but a fool's provocation is heavier than both.
⁴ Wrath is cruel and anger is overwhelming, but who is able to stand before jealousy?

¹⁹ So-then my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath.

¹¹ And Jehovah said to him, Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, Jehovah?

³⁷ because every declaration from God will not be powerless.

²² For we know that all creation groans and travails together in pain till now.

¹⁹ For it has been written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and I will reject the understanding of the intelligent ones.’

¹⁰ A righteous man regards the life of his beast, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

¹⁶ A fool's anger is instantly known, but a prudent man conceals shame.

³ This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all.
Yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil and madness is in their heart while they live and after that they go to the dead.

¹⁹ For out of the heart comes forth evil reasonings, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies.

²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world, in order that he might shame the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world, in order that he might shame the strong; ²⁸ and God chose the ignoble things of the world and the things which have been scorned and the things which are not, in order that he might do-away-with the things which are;

¹⁹ And God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin-container with water and gave the lad a drink.

⁸ And Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth and worshiped.

⁴ he says who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down and having his eyes open,

¹⁶ he says who hears the words of God and knows the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down and having his eyes open.

¹⁷ And Elisha prayed and said, Jehovah, I beseech you, open his eyes that he may see. And Jehovah opened the eyes of the young man and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
¹⁸ And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed to Jehovah and said, I beseech you, strike this people, with blindness. And he killed* them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. ¹⁹ And Elisha said to them, This is not the way, neither is this the city. Follow me and I will bring you* to the man whom you* seek. And he led them to Samaria.
²⁰ And it happened, when they came into Samaria, that Elisha said, Jehovah, open the eyes of these men that they may see. And Jehovah opened their eyes and they saw. And behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

²⁰ Put them in fear, O Jehovah. Let the nations know themselves to be but men. Selah.

¹⁶ But their eyes were being held-fast so as not to recognize him.

³¹ Now their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he became unapparent from them.

⁶ Therefore, as he said to them, I am he, they went back ward and fell to the level-ground.

¹⁸ to open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light, and from the authority of the Adversary to God, in order for them to receive forgiveness of sins, and an inheritance among those who have been made holy in faith, the faith in me.

²² And God's anger was kindled because he went and the messenger of Jehovah placed himself in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his donkey and his two servants were with him.

²⁸ And Jehovah opened the mouth of the donkey and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?

⁴ You will not muzzle the ox when he treads out the grain.

⁶ Your righteousness is like the mountains of God. Your judgments are a great deep. O Jehovah, you preserve man and beast.

⁹ Jehovah is good to all and his tender mercies are over all his works.

⁹ He gives to the beast his food and to the young ravens which cry.

² He who walks in his uprightness fears Jehovah, but he who is perverse in his ways despises him.

⁶ Better is the poor man who walks in his integrity, than he who is perverse in his ways, though he is rich.

¹⁸ He who walks uprightly will be delivered, but he who is perverse in his ways will fall at once.

¹¹ And should not I have regard for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand men who cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand and also much cattle?

¹⁰ and said, O full of all treachery and all villainy, you son of the devil, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

¹⁴ having eyes full of an adulteress and an unceasing sin; enticing unstable souls; having a heart which has been exercised from greed; children of the curse; ¹⁵ having left the straight way. They were misled, having followed in the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

³⁷ even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Jehovah.

³³ So they and all that pertained to them, went down alive into Sheol. And the earth closed upon them and they perished from among the assembly.
³⁴ And all Israel that were all around them fled at the cry of them, for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up. ³⁵ And fire came out from Jehovah and devoured the two hundred and fifty men who offered the incense.

²⁴ And when he had gone, a lion met him by the way and killed him. And his body was cast in the way and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the body. ²⁵ And behold, men passed by and saw the body cast in the way and the lion standing by the body. And they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.
²⁶ And when the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, It is the man of God who was disobedient to the mouth of Jehovah. Therefore Jehovah has delivered him to the lion, which has torn him and slain him, according to the word of Jehovah which he spoke to him.
²⁷ And he spoke to his sons, saying, Saddle the donkey for me. And they saddled it. ²⁸ And he went and found his body cast in the way and the donkey and the lion standing by the body. The lion had not eaten the body, nor torn the donkey.

²⁷ And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron and said to them, I have sinned this time. Jehovah is righteous and I and my people are wicked.

¹⁶ Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste and he said, I have sinned against Jehovah your* God and against you*. ¹⁷ Now therefore I beseech you, forgive my sin only this once and entreat Jehovah your* God, that he may only take away from me this death.

¹ And the people were as complainers, speaking evil in the ears of Jehovah. And when Jehovah heard it, his anger was kindled and the fire of Jehovah burnt among them and devoured in the outermost part of the camp.

⁴⁰ And they rose up early in the morning and got up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we are here and will go up to the place which Jehovah has promised, for we have sinned.

²⁴ And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of Jehovah and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

³⁰ Then he said, I have sinned. I beseech you, yet honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel and turn again with me, that I may worship Jehovah your God.

¹⁷ And he said to David, You are more righteous than I, for you have rendered to me good, and I have rendered to you evil.

²¹ Then Saul said, I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will no more do you harm because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Behold, I have played the fool and have erred exceedingly.

¹³ And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against Jehovah. And Nathan said to David, Jehovah also has put away your sin; you will not die.

⁷ And God was displeased with this thing, therefore he killed* Israel.

³¹ For has any said to God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more; ³² teach me what I do not see; if I have done unrighteousness, I will do it no more?

³⁴ When he killed them, then they inquired after him and they returned and sought God earnestly.

¹⁸ lest Jehovah see it and it displease him and he turn away his wrath from him.

⁴ saying, I have sinned, giving up innocent blood.
But they said, What is that to us? You will see to it. ⁵ And tossing the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed. And having gone away, he hanged himself.

²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them, but only the word which I speak to you, that will you do. ²¹ And Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his donkey and went with the rulers of Moab.

²⁶ Have you not heard how I have done it from afar and formed it of long-ago? Now I have made it occur, that it should be your to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps. ²⁷ Therefore their inhabitants were of small power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were as the grass of the field and as the green herb. As the grass on the housetops and as a field of grain before it is grown up.
²⁸ But I know your sitting down and your going out and your coming in and your raging against me. ²⁹ Because of your raging against me and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

¹⁷ And the King of Sodom went out to meet him, after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh (what is the King's Valley).

² And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood by him. And when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door and bowed himself to the earth

²⁹ And Joseph made his chariot ready and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen. And he presented himself to him and fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while.

⁷ And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed-down and kissed him. And they asked each other of their welfare and they came into the tent.

¹³ From there they journeyed and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the border of the Amorites, for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites. ¹⁴ Therefore it is said in the book of the Wars of Jehovah, Waheb in Suphah and the valleys of the Arnon,

²⁴ Rise you* up, take your* journey and pass over the valley of the Arnon. Behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, King of Heshbon and his land. Begin to possess it and contend with him in battle.

¹⁸ Then they went through the wilderness and went around the land of Edom and the land of Moab and came by the east side of the land of Moab. And they encamped on the other side of the Arnon, but they did not come within the border of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab.

¹⁰ And it happened that, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.

² For it will be that, as wandering birds, as a scattered nest, so will the daughters of Moab be at the fords of the Arnon.

²⁰ Moab is put to shame, for it is broken down. Wail and cry, tell it by the Arnon, that Moab is laid waste.

¹⁵ And the brethren from there, when they heard things concerning us, came to the encounter with us out to the Market of Appius and the Three Taverns; whom having seen, Paul thanked God and took courage.

¹⁶ And they came to Balaam and said to him, Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, I beseech you, let nothing hinder you from coming to me. ¹⁷ For I will promote you to very great honor and whatever you say to me I will do. Therefore, I beseech you, come curse this people for me.

⁶ Because neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the south, comes lifting up.

⁶ And the devil said to him, I will be giving all this authority, and the glory of them, to you, because it has been given to me, and I am giving it to whomever I wish.

⁴⁴ How are you able to believe, receiving glory from one another, and yet you are not seeking the glory that comes from the God alone?

¹⁸ And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah my God, to do less or more.

¹⁰ Jehovah brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.

¹⁰ Surely the inward thought of man will praise you, even the residue of inward thought will observe a festival to you.

²¹ There are many devices in a man's heart, but the counsel of Jehovah, that will stand.

²⁵ who frustrates the signs of the liars and makes diviners mad, who turns wise men backward and makes their knowledge foolish,

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning and from long-ago things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel will stand and I will do all my pleasure,

⁵⁴ And Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain and called his brothers to eat bread. And they ate bread and stayed all night on the mountain.

¹⁴ And he took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah and built seven altars and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.

³⁰ And Balak did as Balaam had said and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.

¹⁶ Because their feet run to evil and they make haste to shed blood.

²⁸ For a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has devoured Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of the Arnon.

¹³ And Balak said to him, I beseech you, come with me to another place, from where you may see them. You will see but the outmost part of them and will not see them all and curse them for me from there.

² for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods. And the people ate and bowed-down to their gods. ³ And Israel joined himself to Baal-peor and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

² You* will surely destroy all the places in which the nations that you* will dispossess served their gods, upon the high mountains and upon the hills and under every green tree.

¹⁵ And he appointed priests for him for the high places and for the male-goats and for the calves which he had made.

³⁵ Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, says Jehovah, he who offers in the high place and he who burns incense to his gods.
