²³ And you, Capernaum, who has been exalted to heaven, you will be stepping down to Hades, because if the miracles had happened in Sodom which have happened in you, it would have remained till today.

¹³ Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and great sinners against Jehovah.

²⁴ Then Jehovah rained brimstone and fire upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah, from Jehovah out of heaven. ²⁵ And he overthrew those cities and all the Plain and all the inhabitants of the cities and what grew upon the ground.

¹³ And you said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God and I will sit upon the mountain of congregation, in the outermost parts of the north. ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. I will make myself like the Most High. ¹⁵ Yet you will be brought down to Sheol, to the utmost parts of the pit.

¹ How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger! He has cast down the beauty of Israel from heaven to the earth and has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

⁴⁸ As I live, says the lord Jehovah, Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters and she did not strengthen the hand of a poor and needy man. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty and committed abomination before me. Therefore I took them away as I saw fit.

¹² Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre and say to him, The lord Jehovah says thus: You seal up the sum, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
¹³ You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering, the ruby, the topaz and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald and the carbuncle and gold. The workmanship of your tambourine and of your pipes was in you. In the day that you were created they were prepared.
¹⁴ You were the anointed cherub who covers. And I set you, so that you were upon the holy mountain of God. You have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
¹⁵ You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you. ¹⁶ By the abundance of your commerce they filled the midst of you with violence and you have sinned. Therefore I have cast you out of the mountain of God as profane and I have destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
¹⁷ Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty. You have corrupted your wisdom because of your brightness. I have cast you to the ground. I have laid you before kings, that they may behold you.
¹⁸ By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your commerce, you have profaned your sanctuaries. Therefore I have brought out a fire from the midst of you. It has devoured you and I have turned you to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all those who behold you.
¹⁹ All those who know you among the peoples will be astonished at you. You have become a horror and you will not be until everlasting.

¹⁶ I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the nether parts of the earth. ¹⁷ They also went down into Sheol with him to those who are slain by the sword, yes, those who were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the nations.

⁴ Though you mount on high as the eagle and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there, says Jehovah.

¹³ And having left Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali;

⁵ Now when Jesus entered into Capernaum, a centurion came to him, pleading with him,

¹⁸ But I also say to you, that you are ^{F} Peter and upon this, the rock, I will be building my congregation of believers, and the gates of Hades will not be prevailing against her.

²⁴ Now they came to Capernaum, those who receive the four-denarii tax came to Peter and said, Does your teacher not pay the four-denarii tax?

²³ And he said to them, You will certainly say this parable to me, Physician, heal yourself. We have heard how much had happened in Capernaum, do it here also in your fatherland.

¹¹ Because everyone who is exalting himself will be humbled, and he who is humbling himself will be exalted.

²³ And in Hades, he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and he sees Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom.

⁴⁶ Therefore, Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick in Capernaum. ⁴⁷ Having heard that Jesus is coming out of Judea into Galilee, he went toward him, and asked him in order that he might come down and might heal his son; for he was about to die. ⁴⁸ Therefore Jesus said to him, If you do not see signs and wonders, you may never believe.
⁴⁹ The nobleman says to him, Lord, come down here before my child dies.
⁵⁰ Jesus says to him, Travel on; your son lives.
And the man believed the word in which Jesus spoke to him, and he was traveling on.
⁵¹ Now already while going down, his bondservants encountered him and reported, saying that his boy lives. ⁵² Therefore, he inquired from them the hour in which he had improved. And they said to him, The fever left him yesterday in the seventh hour. ⁵³ Therefore the father knew that it was in that hour in which Jesus said to him, Your son lives. And he himself, and his whole house believed. ⁵⁴ This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judea into Galilee.

²⁷ because you will not forsake my soul to Hades, neither will you give your Holy One to see decay.

⁴ For if God did not spare messengers who sinned, but threw them into hell and gave them to restraints of blackness, being kept for judgment; ⁵ and he did not spare the ancient world, but guarded Noah, the eighth person spared, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of ungodly people; ⁶ and he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, with a catastrophe, incinerating them, having placed them as an example for those who are about to be ungodly; ⁷ and he rescued righteous Lot, who was being subjugated by the conduct of the immoral in their unbridled-lusts ⁸ (for that righteous man, who was dwelling among them, was tormenting his righteous soul by seeing and in hearing their lawless works day by day).
⁹ The Lord knows how to rescue the devout out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous to a day of judgment to be punished;

⁷ As Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them in a similar manner with these, having indulged in fornication and having gone after different flesh, are laying before us as an example, being held under the sentence of everlasting fire.

⁸ And the corpse s of them lay in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.
