²³ his body will not remain all night upon the tree, but you will surely bury him the same day, for he who is hanged is accursed of God, that you not defile your land which Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance.

¹⁶ Because dogs have encompassed me. A company of evildoers have enclosed me. They pierced my hands and my feet. ¹⁷ I may count all my bones. They look and stare upon me. ¹⁸ They part my garments among them and they cast a lot upon my raiment.

⁴ Surely he has borne our griefs and has carried our sorrows.
Yet we esteemed him stricken, struck by God and afflicted. ⁵ But he was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed.
⁶ All we like sheep have gone-astray. We have turned every one to his own way and Jehovah has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
⁷ He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth. As a lamb that is led to the slaughter and as a sheep that is mute before its shearers, so he opened not his mouth.
⁸ In his humiliation his justice was taken away. And as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?

³⁵ Now having crucified him, ‘they divided his garments among them, casting a lot'; in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, ‘They divided my garments among them and they cast a lot for my garment.’ ³⁶ And sitting down, they were guarding him there.

³⁴ Now Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.
‘Now they cast a lot, dividing his garments among them.’

²³ Therefore the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, a part to each soldier, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was seamless from the top, because it was entirely woven. ²⁴ Therefore they said to one another, We should not split-apart this tunic, but should do a lot concerning it; whose it will be. This happened in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, ‘They divided my garments for themselves and they cast a lot upon my garment.’Therefore indeed, the soldiers did these things.

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you yourselves exterminated, having hanged him upon a tree.
