³⁴ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me. He has crushed me. He has made me an empty vessel. He has, like a monster, swallowed me up. He has filled his stomach with my delicacies. He has cast me out.

¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches and he will vomit them up again. God will cast them out of his belly.

¹² Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol and whole, as those who go down into the pit.

¹ Behold, Jehovah makes the earth empty and makes it waste and turns it upside down and scatters abroad the inhabitants of it. ² And it will be, as with the people, so with the priest, as with the servant, so with his master, as with the maid, so with her mistress, as with the buyer, so with the seller, as with the creditor, so with the debtor, as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest to him. ³ The earth will be utterly emptied and utterly laid waste, for Jehovah has spoken this word.

¹¹ But the pelican and the porcupine will possess it. And the owl and the raven will dwell in it. And he will stretch over it the line of confusion and the plummet of emptiness.

¹ And it happened when Jerusalem was taken, in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and besieged it. ² In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city.
³ And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in and sat in the middle gate, that is, Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim, Rab-saris, Nergal-sharezer, Rab-mag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon.
⁴ And it happened that, when Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, through the gate between the two walls and he went out toward the Arabah.
⁵ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. And when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath and he gave judgment upon him.
⁶ Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes. Also the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah. ⁷ Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes and bound him in fetters to carry him to Babylon.
⁸ And the Chaldeans burned the king's house and the houses of the people, with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth and he has settled on his lees and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, nor has he gone into captivity. Therefore his taste remains in him and his scent is not changed.
¹² Therefore, behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will send to him those who pour off and they will pour him off. And they will empty his vessels and smash their jugs.

⁷ All who found them have devoured them and their adversaries said, We are not guilty, because they have sinned against Jehovah, the habitation of righteousness, even Jehovah, the hope of their fathers.

¹⁷ Israel is a hunted sheep, the lions have driven him away. First, the king of Assyria devoured him and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.

⁴⁴ And I will execute judgment upon Bel in Babylon and I will bring forth out of his mouth what he has swallowed up. And the nations will not flow any more to him. Yes, the wall of Babylon will fall.

⁴⁹ As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon will fall the slain of all the land.

¹ How the city sits solitary, that was full of people! She has become as a widow, who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become forced-labor!

¹⁴ The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand. They are knit together. They have come up upon my neck. He has made my strength to fail. The Lord has delivered me into their hands, against whom I am not able to stand.
¹⁵ The Lord has tossed-aside all my mighty men in the midst of me. He has called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men. The Lord has trodden the virgin daughter of Judah as in a winepress.

¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you. They hiss and gnash the teeth. They say, We have swallowed her up. Certainly this is the day that we looked for. We have found, we have seen it.

³ therefore prophesy and say, The lord Jehovah says thus: Because, even because they have made you* desolate and swallowed you* up on every side, that you* might be a possession to the residue of the nations and you* are taken up in the lips of talkers and the evil report of the people,

⁴ Hear this, O you* who would swallow up a needy man and cause the poor of the land to fail,

² For Jehovah restores the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel, for those emptying have emptied them out and destroyed their vine branches.

⁹ You* take the spoil of silver. Take the spoil of gold. For there is no end of the store, the glory of all desirable furniture. ¹⁰ She is empty and void and waste. And the heart melts and the knees kill* together and anguish is in all loins and the faces of them all have grown pale.

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are devouring widows’houses, and praying long prayers for a pretext, because of this, you will be receiving even-more condemnation.
