²⁵ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel, saying, You* and your* wives have both spoken with your* mouths and with your* hands have fulfilled it, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her. Establish then your* vows and perform your* vows.

²² There is no darkness, nor thick gloom where the workers of wickedness may hide themselves.

¹⁵ Because you* have said, We have made a covenant with death and we are at agreement with Sheol. When the overflowing scourge will pass through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge and we have hid ourselves under falsehood.

¹⁵ Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, even all the people who dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, ¹⁶ As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of Jehovah, we will not listen to you.
¹⁷ But we will certainly perform every word that has gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our rulers, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food and were well and saw no evil.
¹⁸ But since we left off burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked all things and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. ¹⁹ And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?

³⁹ As for you*, O house of Israel, thus says the lord Jehovah: Go you*. Serve each one his idols and hereafter also, if you* will not listen to me. But you* will no more profane my holy name with your* gifts and with your* idols.

⁹ And the king was sorrowful, but because of his oaths and of those who reclined at the meal together with him, he commanded it to be given.

¹² Now when it became day, some of the Jews made a conspiracy and they vowed for themselves, saying, they were neither to eat nor to drink until they should have killed Paul. ¹³ Now they were more-than forty who had made this gang; ¹⁴ who came to the high-priests and the elders and said, We have vowed to be accursed, to taste nothing until we should have killed Paul. ¹⁵ Therefore now, you, together with the council, disclose it to the commander that he should be led to you the next-day, as if being about to investigate more accurately the things concerning him.
