¹³ And I have seen foolishness in the prophets of Samaria. They prophesied by Baal and made my people Israel go-astray.

¹⁸ And he answered, I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father's house, in that you* have forsaken the commandments of Jehovah and you have followed the Baals.
¹⁹ Now therefore send and gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, who eat at Jezebel's table. ²⁰ So Ahab sent to all the sons of Israel and gathered the prophets together to Mount Carmel.
²¹ And Elijah came near to all the people and said, How long do you* go limping between the two sides? If Jehovah be God, follow him, but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

²⁵ And Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, Choose you* one bullock for yourselves and dress it first, for you* are many and call on the name of your* god, but put no fire under. ²⁶ And they took the bullock which was given them and they dressed it and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us.
But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped about the altar which was made. ²⁷ And it happened at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, Cry aloud, for he is a god. Either he is meditating, or he has gone aside, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps and must be awakened. ²⁸ And they cried aloud and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lances, till the blood gushed out upon them.

⁴⁰ and Elijah said to them, Take the prophets of Baal; do not let one of them escape. And they took them and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and killed them there.

⁹ And Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go-astray, so that they did evil more than the nations did whom Jehovah destroyed before the sons of Israel.

¹⁶ For those who lead this people make them go-astray and those who are led by them are destroyed.

⁸ The priests did not say, Where is Jehovah? And those who handle the law did not know me. The rulers also transgressed against me. And the prophets prophesied by Baal and walked after things that do not profit.

⁷ The days of visitation have come. The days of recompense have come. Israel will know it. The prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the abundance of your iniquity and because the enmity is great.
⁸ Ephraim was a watchman with my God. As for the prophet, a fowler's snare is in all his ways and enmity in the house of his God.
