¹ The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, ² to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
³ It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the carrying away captive of Jerusalem in the fifth month.
⁴ Now the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ⁵ Before I formed you in the belly I knew you and before you came forth out of the womb I made you holy. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.
⁶ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am a child. ⁷ But Jehovah said to me, Do not say, I am a child. For I will send you to whomever; you will go and whatever I will command you; you will speak.
⁸ Do not be afraid because of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says Jehovah.
⁹ Then Jehovah put forth his hand and touched my mouth. And Jehovah said to me, Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. ¹⁰ See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.
¹¹ Moreover the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what do you see? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree. ¹² Then Jehovah said to me, You have well seen. For I watch over my word to perform it.
¹³ And the word of Jehovah came to me the second time, saying, What do you see? And I said, I see a boiling caldron and the face of it is from the north. ¹⁴ Then Jehovah said to me, Out of the north evil will break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
¹⁵ For behold, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, says Jehovah. And they will come and they will set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem and against all the walls of it all around and against all the cities of Judah.
¹⁶ And I will utter my judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods and worshiped the works of their own hands.
¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins and arise and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them. ¹⁸ For, behold, I have made you this day a fortified city and an iron pillar and brazen walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the rulers of it, against the priests of it and against the people of the land.
¹⁹ And they will fight against you. But they will not prevail against you, for I am with you, says Jehovah, to deliver you.

¹⁷ And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its suburbs, Geba with its suburbs, ¹⁸ Anathoth with its suburbs and Almon with its suburbs; four cities.

⁶⁰ And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Geba with its suburbs and Allemeth with its suburbs and Anathoth with its suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.

²¹ to fulfill the word of Jehovah by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths; as long as it lay desolate it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

¹ The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

¹ The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

²¹ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, You will not prophesy in the name of Jehovah, that you not die by our hand.

⁷ Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, Buy my field that is in Anathoth. For the right of redemption is your to buy it.
⁸ So Hanamel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of Jehovah and said to me, I beseech you, buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin. For the right of inheritance is your and the redemption is your. Buy it for yourself. Then I knew that this was the word of Jehovah.
⁹ And I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel my uncle's son and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

³ the word of Jehovah came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar and the hand of Jehovah was there upon him.

¹ The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash King of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

¹⁰ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam King of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

²⁰ And it happened, as they sat at the table, that the word of Jehovah came to the prophet who brought him back.

²⁴ But the people of the land killed all those who had conspired against king Amon. And the people of the land made Josiah his son king instead of him.

¹ Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. ² And he did what was right in the eyes of Jehovah and walked in the ways of David his father and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
³ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father. And in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places and the Asherim and the graven images and the molten images.
⁴ And they broke down the altars of the Baals and the graven images and the molten images, he broke in pieces and made dust of them and strewed it upon the graves of those who had sacrificed to them. ⁵ And he burnt the bones of the priests upon their altars and purged Judah and Jerusalem.
⁶ And so also in the cities of Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even to Naphtali, in their ruins all around. ⁷ And he broke down the altars and beat the Asherim and the graven images into powder and hewed down all the sun-images throughout all the land of Israel and returned to Jerusalem.
⁸ Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah and Maaseiah the governor of the city and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of Jehovah his God. ⁹ And they came to Hilkiah the high priest and delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered by the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim and by all the remnant of Israel and by all Judah and Benjamin and by the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
¹⁰ And they delivered it into the hand of the workmen who had the oversight of the house of Jehovah. And the workmen who labored in the house of Jehovah gave it to mend and repair the house. ¹¹ Even to the carpenters and to the builders they gave it, to buy hewn stone and timber for couplings and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed. ¹² And the men did the work faithfully.
And the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward and others of the Levites, all who were skillful with instruments of music. ¹³ Also they were over the bearers of burdens and set forward all who did the work in every manner of service. And of the Levites there were scribes and officers and gatekeepers.
¹⁴ And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of Jehovah, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of Jehovah given by Moses. ¹⁵ And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
¹⁶ And Shaphan carried the book to the king and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, All that was committed to your servants, they are doing. ¹⁷ And they have emptied out the money that was found in the house of Jehovah and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers and into the hand of the workmen.
¹⁸ And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me. And Shaphan read in it before the king. ¹⁹ And it happened, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he tore his clothes.
²⁰ And the king commanded Hilkiah and Ahikam the son of Shaphan and Abdon the son of Micah and Shaphan the scribe and Asaiah the king's servant, saying, ²¹ Go, inquire of Jehovah for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found. For great is the wrath of Jehovah that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of Jehovah, to do according to all that is written in this book.
²² So Hilkiah and those whom the king had commanded, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter) and they spoke to her to that effect.
²³ And she said to them, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Tell you* the man who sent you* to me, ²⁴ Jehovah says thus, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place and upon the inhabitants of it, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.
²⁵ Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore my wrath is poured out upon this place and it will not be quenched.
²⁶ But to the king of Judah, who sent you* to inquire of Jehovah, thus you* will say to him, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: As concerning the words which you have heard, ²⁷ because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and against the inhabitants of it and have humbled yourself before me and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says Jehovah.
²⁸ Behold, I will gather you to your fathers and you will be gathered to your grave in peace, neither will your eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place and upon the inhabitants of it. And they brought back word to the king.
²⁹ Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. ³⁰ And the king went up to the house of Jehovah and all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the Levites and all the people, both great and small. And he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of Jehovah.
³¹ And the king stood in his place and made a covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes, with all his heart and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
³² And he caused all who were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
³³ And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the sons of Israel and made all who were found in Israel to serve, even to serve Jehovah their God. All his days they did not depart from following Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

⁴ Now the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹¹ Moreover the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what do you see? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

³ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, these twenty-three years, the word of Jehovah has come to me and I have spoken to you*, rising up early and speaking. But you* have not listened.

² You take a roll of a book and write in it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and against Judah and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day.

¹ The word of Jehovah that came to Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, King of Israel.

¹ Now the word of Jehovah came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

¹ The word of Jehovah that came to Micah the Morashtite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

³⁴ And Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz away and he came to Egypt and died there.

¹ In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up and Jehoiakim became his servant three years. Then he turned and rebelled against him. ² And Jehovah sent against him bands of the Chaldeans and bands of the Syrians and bands of the Moabites and bands of the sons of Ammon and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spoke by his servants the prophets.
³ Surely at the commandment of Jehovah this came upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did, ⁴ and also for the innocent blood that he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood and Jehovah would not pardon.
⁵ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
⁶ So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers and Jehoiachin his son reigned instead of him. ⁷ And the King of Egypt did not come again any more out of his land, for the king of Babylon had taken, from the brook of Egypt to the river Euphrates, all that pertained to the King of Egypt.
⁸ Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. ⁹ And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his father had done.

¹⁷ And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin's father's brother, king is his stead and changed his name to Zedekiah. ¹⁸ Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
¹⁹ And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. ²⁰ For it happened in Jerusalem and Judah through the anger of Jehovah, until he had cast them out from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

¹⁷ The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits and a capital of brass was upon it. And the height of the capital was three cubits, with lattice-work and pomegranates upon the capital all around, all of brass. And the second pillar had like these with lattice-work.
¹⁸ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the threshold. ¹⁹ And he took an officer out of the city who was set over the men of war; and five men of those who saw the king's face, who were found in the city; and the scribe, the captain of the army, who mustered the people of the land; and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the city.
²⁰ And Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah. ²¹ And the king of Babylon killed* them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away captive out of his land.
²² And as for the people who were left in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, governor over them.
²³ Now when all the captains of the forces, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and Johanan the son of Kareah and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite and Jaazaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.
²⁴ And Gedaliah swore to them and to their men and said to them, Do not fear because of the servants of the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon and it will be well with you*.
²⁵ But it happened in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal seed, came and ten men with him and killed* Gedaliah, so that he died and the Jews and the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah. ²⁶ And all the people, both small and great and the captains of the forces, arose and came to Egypt, for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.
²⁷ And it happened in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison.
²⁸ And he spoke kindly to him and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon, ²⁹ and changed his prison garments. And Jehoiachin ate bread before him continually all the days of his life, ³⁰ and for his allowance. There was a continual allowance given him from the king, every day a portion, all the days of his life.

¹⁵ And the sons of Josiah: the firstborn Johanan, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum.

⁵ Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah his God.
⁶ Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against him and bound him in fetters to carry him to Babylon. ⁷ Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of Jehovah to Babylon and put them in his temple at Babylon.
⁸ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim and his abominations which he did and what was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. And Jehoiachin his son reigned instead of him.

¹¹ Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. ¹² And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah his God. He did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of Jehovah.
¹³ And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God. But he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to Jehovah, the God of Israel. ¹⁴ Moreover all the chiefs of the priests and the people, trespassed very greatly after all the abominations of the nations. And they polluted the house of Jehovah which he had made holy in Jerusalem.
¹⁵ And Jehovah, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling-place. ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
¹⁷ Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion upon young man or virgin, old man or hoary-headed. He gave them all into his hand. ¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small and the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king and of his rulers, all these he brought to Babylon.
¹⁹ And they burnt the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem and burnt all the palaces of it with fire and destroyed all the good vessels of it.
²⁰ And those who had escaped from the sword he carried away to Babylon and they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia, ²¹ to fulfill the word of Jehovah by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths; as long as it lay desolate it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

¹ The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, when king Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying, ² I beseech you, inquire of Jehovah on our behalf. For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps Jehovah will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
³ Then Jeremiah said to them, Thus you* will say to Zedekiah: ⁴ Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your* hands, with which you* fight against the king of Babylon and against the Chaldeans who besiege you*, outside the walls. And I will gather them into the midst of this city.
⁵ And I myself will fight against you* with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and in wrath and in great indignation. ⁶ And I will kill* the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast. They will die of a great pestilence.
⁷ And afterward, says Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his servants and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life and he will kill* them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, nor have pity, nor have mercy.
⁸ And you will say to this people, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I set before you* the way of life and the way of death. ⁹ He who abides in this city will die by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence. But he who goes out and passes over to the Chaldeans who besiege you*, he will live and his life will be to him for a prey.
¹⁰ For I have set my face upon this city for evil and not for good, says Jehovah. It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will burn it with fire.
¹¹ And concerning the house of the king of Judah, hear the word of Jehovah. ¹² O house of David, Jehovah says thus: Execute justice in the morning and deliver he who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go forth like fire and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your* practices.
¹³ Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley and of the rock of the plain, says Jehovah, you* who say, Who will come down against us? Or who will enter into our habitations? ¹⁴ And I will punish you* according to the fruit of your* practices, says Jehovah. And I will kindle a fire in her forest and it will devour all that is all around her.

¹ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah (what was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), ² which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to all the people of Judah and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ³ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, these twenty-three years, the word of Jehovah has come to me and I have spoken to you*, rising up early and speaking. But you* have not listened.

¹ In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word from Jehovah came, saying, ² Jehovah says thus: Stand in the court of Jehovah's house and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in Jehovah's house, all the words that I command you to speak to them, diminish not a word.
³ It may be they will listen and turn every man from his evil way, that I may relent of the evil which I purpose to do to them because of the evil of their practices.
⁴ And you will say to them, Jehovah says thus: If you* will not listen to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you*, ⁵ to listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I send to you*, even rising up early and sending them, but you* have not listened, ⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.
⁷ And the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Jehovah.
⁸ And it happened, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that Jehovah had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying, You will surely die. ⁹ Why have you prophesied in the name of Jehovah, saying, This house will be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate, without inhabitant?
And all the people were gathered to Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah. ¹⁰ And when the rulers of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house to the house of Jehovah and they sat in the entry of the new gate of Jehovah's house.
¹¹ Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the rulers and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy of death, for he has prophesied against this city, as you* have heard with your* ears.
¹² Then Jeremiah spoke to all the rulers and to all the people, saying, Jehovah sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you* have heard. ¹³ Now therefore amend your* ways and your* practices and obey the voice of Jehovah your* God and Jehovah will relent of the evil that he has pronounced against you*.
¹⁴ But as for me, behold, I am in your* hand. Do with me as is good and right in your* eyes. ¹⁵ Only know for certain that, if you* put me to death, you* will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and upon the inhabitants of it. For of a truth Jehovah has sent me to you* to speak all these words in your* ears.
¹⁶ Then the rulers and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets. This man is not worthy of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of Jehovah our God.
¹⁷ Then certain of the elders of the land rose up and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying, ¹⁸ Micah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Jehovah of hosts says thus: Zion will be plowed as a field and Jerusalem will become heaps and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
¹⁹ Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear Jehovah and entreat the favor of Jehovah. And Jehovah relented of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we commit great evil against our own souls.
²⁰ And there was also a man who prophesied in the name of Jehovah, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath-jearim. And he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah. ²¹ And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men and all the rulers, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death, but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid and fled and went into Egypt.
²² And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor and certain men with him, into Egypt, ²³ and they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
²⁴ But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

¹ And it happened the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of Jehovah, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying, ² Thus speaks Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.
³ Within two full years I will bring again into this place all the vessels of Jehovah's house that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon. ⁴ And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, who went to Babylon, says Jehovah, for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.
⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and in the presence of all the people who stood in the house of Jehovah, ⁶ even the prophet Jeremiah said, Truly! Jehovah do so. Jehovah perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of Jehovah's house and all those of the captivity, from Babylon to this place.
⁷ Nevertheless hear now this word that I speak in your ears and in the ears of all the people: ⁸ The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries and against great kingdoms, of war and of evil and of pestilence. ⁹ The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet will happen, then the prophet will be known that Jehovah has truly sent him.
¹⁰ Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from the prophet Jeremiah's neck and broke it. ¹¹ And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, Jehovah says thus: Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon within two full years from the neck of all the nations. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.
¹² Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah after Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying, ¹³ Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Jehovah says thus: You have broken the bars of wood, but I have made in their stead bars of iron. ¹⁴ For Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and they will serve him. And I have given him the beasts of the field also.
¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah. Jehovah has not sent you, but you make this people to trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore Jehovah says thus, Behold, I will send you away from the face of the earth. This year you will die because you have spoken rebellion against Jehovah. ¹⁷ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

¹ The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army and all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem and against all the cities of it, saying, ² Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will burn it with fire.
³ And you will not escape out of his hand, but will surely be taken and delivered into his hand. And your eyes will behold the eyes of the king of Babylon and he will speak with you mouth to mouth and you will go to Babylon.
⁴ Yet hear the word of Jehovah, O Zedekiah king of Judah. Jehovah says thus concerning you, You will not die by the sword; ⁵ you will die in peace. And with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so will they make a burning for you. And they will lament you, saying, Ah lord! For I have spoken the word, says Jehovah.
⁶ Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah, king of Judah in Jerusalem,
⁷ when the king of Babylon's army was fighting against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah, for these alone remained of the cities of Judah, fortified cities.
⁸ The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, after the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them, ⁹ that every man should let his man-servant and every man his maid-servant, who is a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman, go free, that none should make bondmen of them, namely, of a Jew his brother.
¹⁰ And all the rulers and all the people obeyed, who had entered into the covenant, that everyone should let his man-servant and everyone his maid-servant, go free, that none should make bondmen of them any more. They obeyed and let them go.
¹¹ But afterwards they turned and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
¹² Therefore the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, ¹³ Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your* fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying, ¹⁴ At the end of seven years you* will let go every man his brother who is a Hebrew, who has been sold to you and has served you six years. You will let him go free from you. But your* fathers listened not to me, nor inclined their ear.
¹⁵ And you* were now turned and had done what is right in my eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor. And you* had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name.
¹⁶ But you* turned and profaned my name and caused every man his servant and every man his handmaid, whom you* had let go free at their pleasure, to return. And you* brought them into subjection, to be to you* for servants and for handmaids.
¹⁷ Therefore Jehovah says thus: You* have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother and every man to his neighbor. Behold, I proclaim to you* a liberty, says Jehovah–to the sword, to the pestilence and to the famine. And I will make you* to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth.
¹⁸ And I will give the men who have transgressed my covenant, who have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between the parts of it, ¹⁹ the rulers of Judah and the rulers of Jerusalem, the eunuchs and the priests and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf,

¹ The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying, ² Go to the house of the Rechabites and speak to them and bring them into the house of Jehovah, into one of the chambers and give them wine to drink.
³ Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah and his brothers and all his sons and the whole house of the Rechabites. ⁴ And I brought them into the house of Jehovah, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the chamber of the rulers, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.
⁵ And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine and cups and I said to them, Drink wine. ⁶ But they said, We will drink no wine. For Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, You* will drink no wine, neither you*, nor your* sons, everlasting.
⁷ Neither will you* build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any, but all your* days you* will dwell in tents, that you* may live many days in the land in which you* journey.
⁸ And we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters, ⁹ nor to build houses for us to dwell in. Neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed, ¹⁰ but we have dwelt in tents and have obeyed and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.
¹¹ But it happened, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans and for fear of the army of the Syrians. So we dwell at Jerusalem.
¹² Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, saying, ¹³ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Go and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you* not receive instruction to listen to my words? says Jehovah. ¹⁴ The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed. And to this day they drink none, for they obey their father's commandment.
But I have spoken to you*, rising up early and speaking and you* have not listened to me. ¹⁵ I have also sent to you* all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return now every man from his evil way and amend your* practices and do not go after other gods to serve them and you* will dwell in the land which I have given to you* and to your* fathers. But you* have not inclined your* ear, nor listened to me.
¹⁶ Inasmuch as the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me, ¹⁷ therefore Jehovah says thus, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard and I have called to them, but they have not answered.
¹⁸ And Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Because you* have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your* father and kept all his precepts and done according to all that he commanded you*, ¹⁹ therefore Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab will not want a man to stand before me forever.

¹ And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah. ² But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to the words of Jehovah, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.
³ And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now to Jehovah our God on our behalf.
⁴ Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people, for they had not put him into prison. ⁵ And Pharaoh's army came forth out of Egypt. And when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they broke away from Jerusalem.
⁶ Then the word of Jehovah came to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, ⁷ Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, Thus you* will say to the king of Judah, who sent you* to me to inquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which has come out to help you*, will return to Egypt into their own land. ⁸ And the Chaldeans will come again and fight against this city and they will take it and burn it with fire.
⁹ Jehovah says thus: Do not deceive yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans will surely depart from us. For they will not depart. ¹⁰ For though you* had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you* and there remained but wounded men among them, yes they would rise up every man in his tent and burn this city with fire.
¹¹ And it happened that, when the army of the Chaldeans was broken away from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army, ¹² then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin to receive his portion there in the midst of the people.
¹³ And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah. And he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, You are falling away to the Chaldeans.
¹⁴ Then Jeremiah said, It is false. I am not falling away to the Chaldeans. But he did not listen to him. So Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah and brought him to the rulers. ¹⁵ And the rulers were angry with Jeremiah and killed* him and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe, for they had made that the prison.
¹⁶ When Jeremiah came into the house in the pit and into the cells and Jeremiah had remained there many days, ¹⁷ then Zedekiah the king sent and fetched him. And the king asked him secretly in his house and said, Is there any word from Jehovah? And Jeremiah said, There is. He also said, You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
¹⁸ Moreover Jeremiah said to king Zedekiah, How have I sinned against you, or against your servants, or against this people, that you* have put me in prison? ¹⁹ Where now are your* prophets who prophesied to you*, saying, The king of Babylon will not come against you*, nor against this land?
²⁰ And I beseech you, now hear, O my lord the king. I beseech you, let my supplication be presented before you, that you not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.
²¹ Then Zedekiah the king commanded and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard. And they gave him a loaf of bread daily out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

² In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city.

¹ Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. ² And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. ³ For it happened through the anger of Jehovah, in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
⁴ And it happened in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army against Jerusalem and encamped against it. And they built forts against it all around. ⁵ So the city was besieged to the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. ⁶ In the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
⁷ Then a breach was made in the city and all the men of war fled and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden, (now the Chaldeans were against the city all around) and they went toward the Arabah. ⁸ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho and all his army was scattered from him.
⁹ Then they took the king and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath and he gave judgment upon him. ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. He also killed all the rulers of Judah in Riblah. ¹¹ And he put out the eyes of Zedekiah. And the king of Babylon bound him in fetters and carried him to Babylon and put him in prison till the day of his death.
¹² Now in the fifth month, in the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, who stood before the king of Babylon, came into Jerusalem. ¹³ And he burned the house of Jehovah and the king's house and all the houses of Jerusalem. Even every great house, he burned with fire. ¹⁴ And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem all around.
¹⁵ Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the poorest of the people and the residue of the people who were left in the city and those who fell away, who fell to the king of Babylon and the residue of the multitude. ¹⁶ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poorest of the land to be vine-dressers and farmer.
¹⁷ And the pillars of brass that were in the house of Jehovah and the bases and the brazen sea that were in the house of Jehovah, the Chaldeans broke in pieces and carried all the brass of them to Babylon. ¹⁸ The pots also and the shovels and the snuffers and the basins and the spoons and all the vessels of brass with which they ministered, they took away. ¹⁹ And the cups and the censors and the basins and the pots and the lamp-stands and the spoons and the bowls–what was from gold, in gold and what was from silver, in silver–the captain of the guard took away.
²⁰ The two pillars, the one sea and the twelve brazen bulls that were under the bases, which king Solomon had made for the house of Jehovah–the brass of all these vessels was without weight. ²¹ And as for the pillars, the height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits and a line of twelve cubits encompassed it and the thickness of it was four fingers; it was hollow. ²² And a capital of brass was upon it. And the height of the one capital was five cubits, with lattice-work and pomegranates upon the capital all around, all of brass. And the second pillar also had like these and pomegranates. ²³ And there were ninety-six pomegranates on the sides. All the pomegranates were a hundred upon the lattice-work all around.
²⁴ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the threshold. ²⁵ And from the city he took an officer who was set over the men of war and seven men of those who saw the king's face, who were found in the city and the scribe of the captain of the army who mustered the people of the land and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the midst of the city.
²⁶ And Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah. ²⁷ And the king of Babylon killed* them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away captive out of his land.
²⁸ This is the people whom Nebuchadnezzar carried away captive: In the seventh year three thousand twenty-three Jews. ²⁹ In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar he carried away captive from Jerusalem eight hundred thirty-two persons. ³⁰ In the twenty-third year of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the Jews seven hundred forty-five persons. All the persons were four thousand six hundred.
³¹ And it happened in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty-fifth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah and brought him forth out of prison.
³² And he spoke kindly to him and set his throne above the throne of the kings who were with him in Babylon, ³³ and changed his prison garments. And he ate bread before him continually all the days of his life. ³⁴ And for his allowance, there was a continual allowance given him by the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

⁵ Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, When you* fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month, even these seventy years, did you* at all fast to me, even to me?

¹⁹ Jehovah of hosts says thus: The fast of the fourth month and the fast of the fifth and the fast of the seventh and the fast of the tenth, will be to the house of Judah, joy and gladness and cheerful feasts. Therefore love truth and peace.

² to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

¹⁶ And it happened at the end of seven days, that the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹² And Moses said to Jehovah, See, say to me, Bring up this people and you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, I know you by name and you have also found favor in my sight.

¹⁷ And Jehovah said to Moses, I will do this thing also that you have spoken, because you have found favor in my sight and I know you by name.

⁵ Because you are my hope, O lord Jehovah, my trust from my youth. ⁶ I have been held up by you from the womb. You are he who took me out of my mother's guts. My praise will be continually of you.

¹⁶ Your eyes saw my unformed substance and in your book they were all written, even the days that were formed, when as yet there was none of them.

² Jehovah says thus who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you: Do not fear, O Jacob my servant and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

¹ Listen, O isles, to me and listen, you* peoples from far. Jehovah has called me from the womb. From the guts of my mother he has made mention of my name.

⁵ And now says Jehovah who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him and that Israel be gathered to him (for I am honorable in the eyes of Jehovah and my God has become my strength),

¹⁰ See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

¹⁵ For Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, to me: Take this cup of the wine of wrath at my hand and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they will drink and reel to and fro and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.
¹⁷ Then I took the cup at Jehovah's hand and made all the nations to drink, to whom Jehovah had sent me: ¹⁸ Jerusalem and the cities of Judah and the kings of it and the rulers of it, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing and a curse, as it is this day, ¹⁹ Pharaoh King of Egypt and his servants and his rulers and all his people, ²⁰ and all the mixed people and all the kings of the land of the Uz and all the kings of the Philistines and Ashkelon and Gaza and Ekron and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ Edom and Moab and the sons of Ammon, ²² and all the kings of Tyre and all the kings of Sidon and the kings of the isle which is beyond the sea, ²³ Dedan and Tema and Buz and all who have the corners of their hair cut off, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the mixed people who dwell in the wilderness, ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri and all the kings of Elam and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth. And the king of Sheshach will drink after them.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong. Jehovah of hosts is his name. He will thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth and shake the inhabitants of Babylon.

¹⁵ For he will be great in the Lord’s sight, and he may never drink wine or liquor, and he will be filled more with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb.

⁴¹ And it happened, as Elisabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby jumped in her womb, and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit;

⁷⁶ And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; for ‘you will be traveling before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways.’

Paul, bondservant of Jesus Christ, a called apostle, having been separated to the good-news of God,

²⁹ Because, whom he knew beforehand, he also predetermined, one transformed to the image of his Son, that he himself might be the firstborn among many brethren;

¹⁵ But when God was delighted–he separated me from my mother’s womb, having called me through his grace, ¹⁶ to reveal his Son in me, in order that I may proclaim the good-news of him among the nations. Immediately, I did not consult with flesh and blood;

²² And he subjected all things under his feet and gave him to be head above all things to the congregation of believers,

¹¹ And he gave some to be : the apostles, and the prophets, and the evangelists, and the shepherds and teachers ¹² for the equipping of the holy-ones, for the work of the service, for the building up of the body of the Christ,

¹⁹ Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal, ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’
²⁰ Now vessels are not only golden and silver in a great house, but also wooden and clay, and indeed the things to honor and the things to dishonor. ²¹ Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, having been made holy and is useful to the master, having been prepared for every good work.

¹ And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice, because they will say, Jehovah has not appeared to you.

¹⁰ And Moses said to Jehovah, Oh, Lord, I am not a man of words, neither yesterday nor in any time past, nor since you have spoken to your servant, because I am slow of speech and of a slow tongue. ¹¹ And Jehovah said to him, Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, Jehovah? ¹² Now therefore go and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you will speak.
¹³ And he said, Oh, Lord, I beseech you, send by the hand of him whom you will send.
¹⁴ And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Moses and he said, Is there not Aaron your brother the Levite? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he comes forth to meet you and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. ¹⁵ And you will speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you* what you* will do, ¹⁶ and he will be your spokesman to the people. And it will happen, that he will be to you a mouth and you will be to him as God.

¹² And Moses spoke before Jehovah, saying, Behold, the sons of Israel have not listened to me, how then will Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips?

³⁰ And Moses said before Jehovah, Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips and how will Pharaoh listen to me?

⁷ And now, O Jehovah my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. And I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ And your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to judge this your great people?

⁵ Then I said, Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts.

¹⁰ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Surely you have utterly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, You* will have peace, but the sword reaches to the life.

¹³ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Behold, the prophets say to them, You* will not see the sword, nor will you* have famine, but I will give you* assured peace in this place.

¹⁷ Ah lord Jehovah! Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for you,

¹ And Jehovah said to Moses, See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. ² You will speak all that I command you and Aaron your brother will speak to Pharaoh, that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land.

²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them, but only the word which I speak to you, that will you do.

³⁸ And Balaam said to Balak, Behold, I have come to you. Have I now any power at all to speak anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, As Jehovah lives, what Jehovah says to me, that I will speak.

¹³ And Micaiah said, As Jehovah lives, what my God says, that will I speak.

¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins and arise and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them. ¹⁸ For, behold, I have made you this day a fortified city and an iron pillar and brazen walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the rulers of it, against the priests of it and against the people of the land.

³ And he said to me, Son of man, I send you to the sons of Israel, to nations that are rebellious, which have rebelled against me. They and their fathers have transgressed against me even to this very day. ⁴ And the sons are impudent and stiff hearted.
I send you to them and you will say to them, The Lord says thus Jehovah. ⁵ And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear (for they are a rebellious house), yet will know that there has been a prophet among them.

¹⁷ Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me.
¹⁸ When I say to a wicked man, You will surely die and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked man from his wicked way, to save his life, the same wicked man will die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at your hand.
¹⁹ Yet if you warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul.
²⁰ Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits unrighteousness and I lay a stumbling block before him, he will die. Because you have not given him warning, he will die in his sin and his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered, but I will require his blood at your hand.
²¹ Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man, that the righteous man not sin and he does not sin, he will surely live, because he took warning and you have delivered your soul.

²⁷ But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth and you will say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus. He who hears, let him hear and he who forbears, let him forbear, for they are a rebellious house.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things, as many things as I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the earth.
Amen.

¹⁵ And he said to them, When you travel into all the world, preach the good-news to all creation. ¹⁶ He who believes and is immersed will be saved, but he who disbelieves will be condemned.

²⁷ For I did not retreat back from proclaiming to you the whole plan of God.

¹² And he said, I will certainly be with you. And this will be the sign to you, that I have sent you: When you have brought out the people out of Egypt, you* will serve God upon this mountain.

⁶ Be strong and of good courage, do not fear, nor be frightened at them, for Jehovah your God, he it is who goes with you. He will not leave you, nor forsake you.

⁸ And Jehovah, he it is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you. Do not fear, neither be dismayed.

⁵ There will not any man be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you, nor forsake you.

⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. Do not be frightened, neither be dismayed, for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flame kindle upon you.

⁷ Listen to me, you* who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law. Do not fear the reproach of men, nor be you* dismayed at their revilings.

¹² I, even I, am he who comforts you*. Who are you, that you are afraid of man who will die and of the son of man who will be made as grass,

¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins and arise and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.

²⁰ And I will make you to this people a fortified brazen wall. And they will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you. For I am with you to save you and to deliver you, says Jehovah. ²¹ And I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked and I will redeem you out of the hand of the terrible.

¹¹ But Jehovah is with me as an awesome mighty one. Therefore my persecutors will stumble and they will not prevail. They will be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which will never be forgotten.

⁶ And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions. Do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house. ⁷ And you will speak my words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, for they are most rebellious.

⁸ Behold, I have made your face hard against their faces and your forehead hard against their foreheads. ⁹ As an adamant, harder than flint, I have made your forehead. Fear them not, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

²⁶ Therefore do not fear them; for there is nothing hidden, which will not be revealed, and nothing secret, which will not be known.

⁴ But I am saying to you my friends, Do not be afraid of those who kill the body and they do not have, after these things, anything more-than that to do against you. ⁵ But I will be showing you whom you should fear. Fear him, who after he has killed you, has authority to cast you into hell. Yes, I say to you, Fear him.

¹³ Now viewing the boldness of Peter and John, they were marveling, having comprehended that they were illiterate and unskilled men. And they recognized them, that they had been together with Jesus.

²⁹ And hereafter, Lord, look upon their threats and give to your bondservants to speak your word with all boldness,

⁹ And the patriarchs, having been jealous of Joseph, gave him into Egypt. And God was with him, ¹⁰ and liberated him from all his afflictions and gave him favor and wisdom in front of Pharaoh king of Egypt, who designated him leader over Egypt and his whole house.

¹⁰ because I am with you and no one will be laying a hand on you to mistreat you, because there are many people in this city believing in me.

¹⁷ I will be liberating you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you,

⁸ For brethren, we do not wish you to be ignorant in regard to our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were burdened down surpassingly, beyond our power, so-that we despaired even to be living. ⁹ But, we ourselves have had the verdict of death in ourselves, in order that we should not have confidence in ourselves, but in God, who is raising up the dead; ¹⁰ who rescued us out of so-great a death and is rescuing us; in whom we have hoped that he will also still be rescuing us.

²⁰ on behalf of which, I am an ambassador in a chain; in order that I should speak boldly in it, as it is essential for me to speak.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood beside me and empowered me; in order that the preaching might be fully assured through me and in order that all the Gentiles might hear and I was rescued out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ The Lord will be rescuing me from every evil work and will save me for his heavenly kingdom: in whom is the glory, forevermore. Amen.

⁵ In the manner of life, not being a money-lover, be content with the things which are present; for he himself has said, I may never be lax concerning you, nor should I ever forsake you. ⁶ So-that we, being courageous, may say, The Lord is my helper and I will not be fearing. What will man be doing for me?

¹¹ And Jehovah said to him, Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, Jehovah? ¹² Now therefore go and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you will speak.

⁶ Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. ⁷ And he touched my mouth with it and said, Behold, this has touched your lips and your iniquity is taken away and your sin forgiven.

² And he has made my mouth like a sharp sword. He has hid me in the shadow of his hand and he has made me a polished shaft. He has kept me close in his quiver.

⁴ The lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words he who is weary. He awakens morning by morning. He awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.

¹⁶ And I have put my words in your mouth and have covered you in the shadow of my hand, that I may plant the heavens and lay the foundations of the earth and say to Zion, You are my people.

¹⁴ Therefore Jehovah says thus, the God of hosts: Because you* speak this word, behold, I will make my words in your mouth fire and this people wood and it will devour them.

¹⁰ Moreover he said to me, Son of man, all my words that I will speak to you, receive in your heart and hear with your ears.

¹⁹ But whenever they give you up, do not be anxious how or what you should speak; for it will be given to you in that hour what you will be speaking.

¹² for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that same hour what you ought to say.

¹⁵ For I will be giving you a mouth and wisdom, which all who lay in opposition to you will not be able to stand against, nor to speak against.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the travelers of Gilead, said to Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there will not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹⁷ And it will happen, that he who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill. And he who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill.

²⁶ who confirms the word of his servant and performs the counsel of his messengers, who says of Jerusalem, She will be inhabited and of the cities of Judah, They will be built and I will raise up the waste places of it, ²⁷ who says to the deep, Be dry and I will dry up your rivers, ²⁸ who says of Cyrus, He is my shepherd and will perform all my pleasure, even saying of Jerusalem, She will be built and of the temple, Your foundation will be laid.

⁷ At that instant I will speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it, ⁸ if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will relent of the evil that I thought to do to them.
⁹ And at that instant I will speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, ¹⁰ if they do what is evil in my sight, that they obey not my voice, then I will relent of the good with which I said I would benefit them.

⁶ For I will set my eyes upon them for good and I will bring them again to this land. And I will build them and not pull them down and I will plant them and not pluck them up.

¹⁵ For Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, to me: Take this cup of the wine of wrath at my hand and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they will drink and reel to and fro and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.
¹⁷ Then I took the cup at Jehovah's hand and made all the nations to drink, to whom Jehovah had sent me: ¹⁸ Jerusalem and the cities of Judah and the kings of it and the rulers of it, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing and a curse, as it is this day, ¹⁹ Pharaoh King of Egypt and his servants and his rulers and all his people, ²⁰ and all the mixed people and all the kings of the land of the Uz and all the kings of the Philistines and Ashkelon and Gaza and Ekron and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ Edom and Moab and the sons of Ammon, ²² and all the kings of Tyre and all the kings of Sidon and the kings of the isle which is beyond the sea, ²³ Dedan and Tema and Buz and all who have the corners of their hair cut off, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the mixed people who dwell in the wilderness, ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri and all the kings of Elam and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth. And the king of Sheshach will drink after them. ²⁷ And you will say to them, Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Drink you* and be drunken and spew and fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you*.

² Jehovah says thus to me: You make bonds and bars and put them upon your neck. ³ And send them to the king of Edom and to the king of Moab and to the king of the sons of Ammon and to the king of Tyre and to the king of Sidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.
⁴ And give them a charge to their masters, saying, Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Thus you* will say to your* masters: ⁵ I have made the earth, the men and the beasts that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm and I give it to whom it seems right to me.
⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant. And the beasts of the field I have also given him to serve him. ⁷ And all the nations will serve him and his son and his son's son, until the time of his own land comes. And then many nations and great kings will make him their bondman.

⁴ Again I will build you and you will be built, O virgin of Israel. Again you will be adorned with your tambourine and will go forth in the dances of those who make merry. ⁵ Again you will plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria. The planters will plant and will enjoy it.

²⁸ And it will happen that, just as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to overthrow and to destroy and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says Jehovah.

¹ The word of Jehovah which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.
² Of Egypt, concerning the army of Pharaoh Neco, King of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon killed* in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:
³ Prepare you* the buckler and shield and draw near to battle. ⁴ Harness the horses and get up, you* horsemen and stand forth with your* helmets. Furbish the spears. Put on the coats of mail. ⁵ Why have I seen it?
They are dismayed and have turned backward. And their mighty ones are beaten down and have fled in flight and do not look back. Terror is on every side, says Jehovah. ⁶ Do not let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape. In the north by the river Euphrates they have stumbled and fallen.
⁷ Who is this that rises up like the Nile, whose waters toss themselves like the rivers? ⁸ Egypt rises up like the Nile and his waters toss themselves like the rivers. And he says, I will rise up. I will cover the earth. I will destroy cities and the inhabitants of it.
⁹ Go up, you* horses and rage, you* chariots. And let the mighty men go forth: Cush and Put, who handle the shield and the Ludim, who handle and bend the bow. ¹⁰ For that day is a day of the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries. And the sword will devour and be satiate and will drink its fill of their blood, for the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.
¹¹ Go up into Gilead and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt. In vain do you use many medicines; there is no healing for you. ¹² The nations have heard of your shame and the earth is full of your cry. For the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty; they are fallen, both of them together.
¹³ The word that Jehovah spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon should come and kill* the land of Egypt.
¹⁴ Declare in Egypt and proclaim in Migdol and proclaim in Memphis and in Tahpanhes. Say you*, Stand forth and prepare you, for the sword has devoured all around you. ¹⁵ Why are your strong ones swept away? They stood not, because Jehovah drove them.
¹⁶ He made many to stumble, yes, they fell one upon another. And they said, Arise and let us go again to our own people and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword. ¹⁷ They cried there, Pharaoh King of Egypt is but a noise. He has let the appointed time pass by.
¹⁸ As I live, says the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts, surely like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea, so will he come.
¹⁹ O you daughter who dwells in Egypt, prepare yourself to go into captivity. For Memphis will become a desolation and will be burnt up, without inhabitant. ²⁰ Egypt is a very fair heifer, but destruction out of the north has come, it has come. ²¹ Also her hired men in the midst of her are like calves of the stall, for they also are turned back. They have fled away together. They did not stand, for the day of their calamity has come upon them, the time of their visitation. ²² Its sound will go like the serpent, for they will march with an army and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.
²³ They will cut down her forest, says Jehovah, though it cannot be searched because they are more than the locusts and are innumerable. ²⁴ The daughter of Egypt will be put to shame. She will be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.
²⁵ Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, says, Behold, I will punish Amon of No and Pharaoh and Egypt, with their gods and their kings, even Pharaoh and those who trust in him. ²⁶ And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of his servants. And afterwards it will be inhabited, as in the days of long-ago, says Jehovah.
²⁷ But do not fear, O Jacob my servant, nor be dismayed, O Israel. For behold, I will save you from afar and your seed from the land of their captivity. And Jacob will return and will be quiet and at ease and none will make him afraid.
²⁸ Do not fear, O Jacob my servant, says Jehovah, for I am with you. For I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not make a full end of you. But I will discipline you in measure and will in no way leave you unpunished.

¹⁸ Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt and cast them down, even her and the daughters of the famous nations, to the nether parts of the earth, with those who go down into the pit.

³⁶ Then the nations that are left all aroundyou* will know that I, Jehovah, have built the ruined places and planted what was desolate. I, Jehovah, have spoken it and I will do it.

³ And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city. And the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar. And I fell upon my face.

⁷ Surely the lord Jehovah will do nothing unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets.

¹¹ In that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David that has fallen and close up the breaches of it. And I will raise up its ruins and I will build it as in the days of old,

⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your* fathers? And they turned and said, Like as Jehovah of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.

⁴ For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but are mighty in God, toward the demolition of strongholds, ⁵ demolishing evil reasonings and every exalted thing which is lifting itself up against the knowledge of God and capturing every device of the Adversary to the obedience of the Christ;

³ And I will be giving to my two witnesses and they will be prophesying one thousand two hundred and sixty days, having been dressed in sackcloth. ⁴ These are the two olive trees and the two lamp-stands, standing in the sight of the Lord of the earth. ⁵ And if anyone wishes to hurt them, fire travels out from their mouth and devours their enemies, and if anyone wishes to hurt them, it is essential for him to thus be killed. ⁶ These have the authority to lock the heaven, in order that no rainfall may rain on the days of their prophecy and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of wound, whenever they will it.

¹⁹ And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, have been gathered together to make a war with the one who sits upon the horse and with his army. ²⁰ And the beast was clutched and with him the false prophet who made the signs in his sight, in which he misled those who had received the mark of the beast and those who are worshiping his image. The two were cast while living into the lake of fire which is burning in brimstone. ²¹ And the rest were killed with the long-sword of the one who sits upon the horse, which came forth out of his mouth and all the birds were fed from their flesh.

⁸ And it happened on the morrow, that Moses went into the tent of the testimony, and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded and put forth buds and produced blossoms and bore ripe almonds.

³ Then Jehovah said to me, What do you see, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs. The good figs, very good and the bad, very bad, that cannot be eaten they are so bad.

¹⁰ Behold, the day, behold, it comes. Your doom has gone forth. The rod has blossomed; pride has budded.

⁸ And Jehovah said to me, Amos, what do you see? And I said, A plumb-line. Then the Lord said, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.

² And he said, Amos, what do you see? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then Jehovah said to me, The end has come upon my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.

² And he said to me, What do you see? And I said, I have seen, and behold, a lamp-stand all of gold, with its bowl upon the top of it and its seven lamps on it. There are seven pipes to each of the lamps, which are upon the top of it,

² And he said to me, What do you see? And I answered, I see a flying roll. The length of it is twenty cubits and the breadth of it ten cubits.

²⁸ And Jehovah heard the voice of your* words, when you* spoke to me. And Jehovah said to me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken to you. They have well said all that they have spoken.

¹⁷ And Jehovah said to me, They have well said what they have spoken.

³⁵ Vengeance is for me and recompense at the time when their foot will slip. For the day of their calamity is at hand and the things that are to come upon them will make haste.

¹ And it happened when Jerusalem was taken, in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and besieged it. ² In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city.
³ And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in and sat in the middle gate, that is, Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim, Rab-saris, Nergal-sharezer, Rab-mag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon.
⁴ And it happened that, when Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, through the gate between the two walls and he went out toward the Arabah.
⁵ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. And when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath and he gave judgment upon him.
⁶ Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes. Also the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah. ⁷ Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes and bound him in fetters to carry him to Babylon.
⁸ And the Chaldeans burned the king's house and the houses of the people, with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem. ⁹ Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the residue of the people that remained in the city, the deserters also that fell away to him and the residue of the people that remained.
¹⁰ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, that had nothing, in the land of Judah and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.
¹¹ Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying, ¹² Take him and look well to him and do him no harm, but do to him even as he will say to you.
¹³ So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent and Nebushazban, Rab-saris and Nergal-sharezer, Rab-mag and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon. ¹⁴ And they sent and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guard and committed him to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home. So he dwelt among the people.
¹⁵ Now the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying, ¹⁶ Go and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil and not for good and they will be accomplished before you in that day.
¹⁷ But I will deliver you in that day, says Jehovah and you will not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid. ¹⁸ For I will surely save you and you will not fall by the sword, but your life will be for a prey to you, because you have put your trust in me, says Jehovah.

²² Son of man, what is this proverb that you* have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged and every vision fails?
²³ Tell them therefore, The lord Jehovah says thus: I will make this proverb to cease and they will no more use it as a proverb in Israel, but say to them, The days are at hand and the fulfillment of every vision.

²⁵ For I am Jehovah. I will speak and the word that I will speak will be performed. It will be no more prolonged. For in your* days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and will perform it, says the lord Jehovah.

²⁸ Therefore say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: There will none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I will speak will be performed, says the lord Jehovah.

²⁸ But he said to him, You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live.

³⁹ But some of the scribes answered and said, Teacher, you have said well.

³² And because the dream was doubled to Pharaoh, it is because the thing is established by God and God will shortly bring it to pass.

³ who say, The time is not near to build houses. This city is the caldron and we are the flesh.

⁷ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Your* slain whom you* have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh and this city is the caldron, but you* will be brought forth out of the midst of it.

³ And utter a parable to the rebellious house and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Set on the caldron. Set it on and also pour water into it. ⁴ Gather the pieces of it into it, even every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. ⁵ Take the choice of the flock and also a pile of wood for the bones under the caldron. Make it boil well, yes, let the bones of it is boiled in the midst of it.
⁶ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city, to the caldron whose rust is in it and whose rust has not gone out of it! Take out of it piece after piece. No lot has fallen upon it.
⁷ For her blood is in the midst of her. She set it upon the bare rock. She did not pour it upon the ground to cover it with dust. ⁸ That it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance, I have set her blood upon the bare rock, that it should not be covered.
⁹ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the pile great. ¹⁰ Heap on the wood; make the fire hot. Boil the flesh well and make the broth thick. And let the bones be burned. ¹¹ Then set it empty upon the coals of it, that it may be hot and the brass of it may burn and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed.
¹² She has wearied herself with toil, yet her great scum does not go forth out of her, her scum by fire. ¹³ In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you and you were not cleansed, you will not be cleansed from your filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.
¹⁴ I, Jehovah, have spoken it. It will happen and I will do it. I will not go back. I will neither spare, nor will I relent. According to your ways and according to your practices, they will judge you, says the lord Jehovah.

¹ This will be the third-time I am coming to you. (Upon the mouth of two or three witnesses every declaration will be established.) ² I have spoken to you beforehand and I do say again like beforehand, being present the second-time and so being absent now, I am writing to warn those who have sinned before and to all the rest, that, if I come again, I will not be sparing them,

²⁵ I have raised up him from the north and he has come, he who calls upon my name from the rising of the sun. And he will come upon rulers as upon mortar and as the potter treads clay.

⁶ Set up a standard toward Zion. Flee for safety, do not stay. For I will bring evil from the north and a great destruction.

¹ Flee for safety, you* sons of Benjamin, out of the midst of Jerusalem. And blow the trumpet in Tekoa and raise up a signal on Beth-haccherem. For evil looks forth from the north and a great destruction.

²² Jehovah says thus, Behold, a people comes from the north country and a great nation will be stirred up from the outermost parts of the earth.

²² The voice of news. Behold, it comes and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place of jackals.

⁸ Behold, I will bring them from the north country and gather them from the outermost parts of the earth and with them the blind man and the lame man, the woman with child and she who travails with child together. They will return here a great company.

²⁰ Egypt is a very fair heifer, but destruction out of the north has come, it has come.

⁹ For behold, I will stir up and cause to come up against Babylon a company of great nations from the north country and they will set themselves in array against her. From there she will be taken. Their arrows will be as of an expert mighty man; none will return in vain.

⁴¹ Behold, a people comes from the north and a great nation and many kings will be stirred up from the outermost parts of the earth.

⁴ And I looked, and behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, a great cloud, with a fire enfolding itself and a brightness all around it and out of the midst of it, as it were glowing metal, out of the midst of the fire.

⁴⁹ Jehovah will bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies, a nation whose tongue you will not understand, ⁵⁰ a nation of fierce countenance, that will not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young, ⁵¹ and will eat the fruit of your cattle and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed, that also will not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your cattle, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish. ⁵² And they will besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land. And they will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which Jehovah your God has given you.
⁵³ And you will eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, whom Jehovah your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies will distress you.

⁷ And it happened, that your choicest valleys were full of chariots and the horsemen set themselves in array at the gate.

¹⁶ You* make mention to the nations. Behold, proclaim against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

¹⁵ Behold, I will bring a nation upon you* from far, O house of Israel, says Jehovah. It is a mighty nation. It is an nation of old, a nation whose language you do not know, nor understand what they say.

¹¹ And I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling-place of jackals. And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

²⁵ Pour out your wrath upon the nations that does not know you and upon the families that do not call on your name. For they have devoured Jacob. Yes, they have devoured him and consumed him and have laid waste his habitation.

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, says Jehovah and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant and will bring them against this land and against the inhabitants of it and against all these nations all around. And I will utterly destroy them and make them an astonishment and a hissing and everlasting desolations.

²⁸ And it will be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you will say to them, Jehovah of hosts says thus: You* will surely drink.

³¹ A noise will come even to the end of the earth, for Jehovah has a controversy with the nations. He will enter into judgment with all flesh. As for the wicked, he will give them to the sword, says Jehovah.
³² Jehovah of hosts says thus: Behold, evil will go forth from nation to nation and a great tempest will be raised up from the outermost parts of the earth.

¹⁰ Jehovah says thus: Yet again there will be heard in this place–of which you* say, It is waste, without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast–

²² Behold, I will command, says Jehovah and cause them to return to this city. And they will fight against it and take it and burn it with fire. And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

³ And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in and sat in the middle gate, that is, Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim, Rab-saris, Nergal-sharezer, Rab-mag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon.

¹⁰ and say to them, Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid and he will spread his royal pavilion over them.

⁶ Therefore my wrath and my anger was poured forth and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.

¹¹ They ravished the women in Zion, the virgins in the cities of Judah.

²⁰ Jehovah will send upon you cursing, confusion and rebuke, in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your practices, by which you have forsaken me.

¹⁶ And Jehovah said to Moses, Behold, you will sleep with your fathers. And this people will rise up and play the prostitute after the strange gods of the land where they go to be among them and will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them.

²⁰ If you* forsake Jehovah and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you* evil and consume you*, after he has done you* good.

¹⁷ Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place and it will not be quenched.

¹⁹ But if you* turn away and forsake my statutes and my commandments which I have set before you* and will go and serve other gods and worship them,

² And he went out to meet Asa and said to him, Hear me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. Jehovah is with you* while you* are with him. And if you* seek him, he will be found of you*, but if you* forsake him, he will forsake you*.

²⁵ Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore my wrath is poured out upon this place and it will not be quenched.

⁸ Their land is also full of idols. They worship the work of their own hands, what their own fingers have made,

¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

¹⁵ Then it will be for a man to burn. And he takes of it and warms himself. Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread. Yes, he makes a god and worships it. He makes it a graven image and falls down to it.

³ a people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and burning incense upon bricks,

¹³ For my people have committed two evils: They have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

¹⁷ Have you not procured this to yourself, in that you have forsaken Jehovah your God when he led you by the way?

¹² a full wind from these will come for me. Now I will also utter judgments against them.

²⁸ For this the earth will mourn and the heavens above be black, because I have spoken it, I have purposed it and I have not relented, nor will I turn back from it.

⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? says Jehovah. And will not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

⁹ Will you* steal, murder and commit adultery and swear falsely and burn incense to Baal and walk after other gods that you* have not known,

⁸ But they are together stupid and foolish, the instruction of idols! It is but a block of wood. ⁹ There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith, blue and purple for their clothing. They are all the work of skillful men.

¹⁵ They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation they will perish.

¹² Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry to the gods to which they offer incense, but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

¹⁷ For Jehovah of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have worked for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.

⁶ You have rejected me, says Jehovah. You have gone backward. Therefore I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you. I am weary with relenting.

¹¹ Then you will say to them, Because your* fathers have forsaken me, says Jehovah and have walked after other gods and have served them and have worshiped them and have forsaken me and have not kept my law.

¹³ O Jehovah, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who depart from me will be written in the earth, because they have forsaken Jehovah, the fountain of living waters.

⁴ Because they have forsaken me and have estranged this place and have burned incense in it to other gods that they did not know, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,

¹⁷ But we will certainly perform every word that has gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our rulers, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food and were well and saw no evil.

¹⁷ Every man has become stupid, without knowledge. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his image, for his molten image is falsehood and there is no breath in them.

⁹ And he said to me, Go in and see the wicked abominations that they do here.
¹⁰ So I went in and saw, and behold, every form of creeping things and abominable beasts and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall all around.
¹¹ And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel. And in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, each man with his censer in his hand and the odor of the cloud of incense went up.

¹⁴ I, Jehovah, have spoken it. It will happen and I will do it. I will not go back. I will neither spare, nor will I relent. According to your ways and according to your practices, they will judge you, says the lord Jehovah.

⁶ For even this is from Israel: the workman made it and it is no God. Yes, the calf of Samaria will be broken in pieces.

² The more the prophets called them, the more they went from them. They sacrificed to the Baals and burned incense to graven images.

¹¹ And Jehovah utters his voice before his army, for his camp is very great. For he is strong who executes his word. For the day of Jehovah is great and very fearful and who can abide it?

³⁵ so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly I am saying to you, All these things will be coming upon this generation.

⁴¹ And they made a calf in those days and led a sacrifice to the idol and were being joyous in the works of their hands.

² You will speak all that I command you and Aaron your brother will speak to Pharaoh, that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land.

⁴⁶ And the hand of Jehovah was on Elijah and he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

²⁹ Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up your loins and take my staff in your hand and go your way. If you meet any man, do not salute him and if any salute you, do not answer him again. And lay my staff upon the face of the child.

¹ And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, Gird up your loins and take this vial of oil in your hand and go to Ramoth-gilead.

³ Gird up now your loins like a man, for I will demand of you and declare you to me.

⁷ But Jehovah said to me, Do not say, I am a child. For I will send you to whomever; you will go and whatever I will command you; you will speak.
⁸ Do not be afraid because of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says Jehovah.

¹⁸ Let them be put to shame who persecute me, but do not let me be put to shame. Let them be dismayed, but do not let me be dismayed. Bring upon them the day of evil and destroy them with double destruction.

²⁸ The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream. And he who has my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat? says Jehovah.

¹⁰ Moreover he said to me, Son of man, all my words that I will speak to you, receive in your heart and hear with your ears. ¹¹ And go, get to those of the captivity, to the sons of your people and speak to them and tell them, The lord Jehovah says thus, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.

¹⁴ So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away. And I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit and the hand of Jehovah was strong upon me. ¹⁵ Then I came to those of the captivity at Tel-abib, who dwelt by the river Chebar and to where they dwelt. And I sat there overwhelmed among them seven days.
¹⁶ And it happened at the end of seven days, that the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ¹⁷ Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me.
¹⁸ When I say to a wicked man, You will surely die and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked man from his wicked way, to save his life, the same wicked man will die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at your hand.

⁶ But if the watchman sees the sword come and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at the watchman's hand.
⁷ So you, son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me. ⁸ When I say to the wicked man, O wicked man, you will surely die and you do not speak to warn the wicked man from his way, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at your hand.

² Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city and preach to it the preaching that I bid you.

³⁵ Let your loins be girded, and your lamps burning;

²⁰ how I did not retreat back in anything of what is advantageous for you, proclaiming and teaching you in public and in every house,

¹⁶ For if I proclaim the good-news, it is not boasting to me; for necessity is laid upon me, but woe is to me, if I, myself, do not proclaim the good-news.

² But having suffered before, and having been abused in Philippi, just-as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the good-news of God, even in our large struggle.

¹³ Hence when you have girded up the loins of your mind, while being sober, hope completely upon the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

⁷ For the lord Jehovah will help me.
Therefore I have not been confounded. Therefore I have set my face like a flint and I know that I will not be put to shame.

²⁷ I have made you a tester and a fortress among my people, that you may know and try their way.

²⁰ And I will make you to this people a fortified brazen wall. And they will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you. For I am with you to save you and to deliver you, says Jehovah.

⁴ Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your* hands, with which you* fight against the king of Babylon and against the Chaldeans who besiege you*, outside the walls. And I will gather them into the midst of this city.
⁵ And I myself will fight against you* with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and in wrath and in great indignation. ⁶ And I will kill* the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast. They will die of a great pestilence.
⁷ And afterward, says Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his servants and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life and he will kill* them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, nor have pity, nor have mercy.
⁸ And you will say to this people, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I set before you* the way of life and the way of death. ⁹ He who abides in this city will die by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence. But he who goes out and passes over to the Chaldeans who besiege you*, he will live and his life will be to him for a prey.
¹⁰ For I have set my face upon this city for evil and not for good, says Jehovah. It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will burn it with fire.
¹¹ And concerning the house of the king of Judah, hear the word of Jehovah. ¹² O house of David, Jehovah says thus: Execute justice in the morning and deliver he who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go forth like fire and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your* practices.
¹³ Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley and of the rock of the plain, says Jehovah, you* who say, Who will come down against us? Or who will enter into our habitations? ¹⁴ And I will punish you* according to the fruit of your* practices, says Jehovah. And I will kindle a fire in her forest and it will devour all that is all around her.

⁴ For if you* do this thing indeed, then there will enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he and his servants and his people.
⁵ But if you* will not hear these words, I swear by myself, says Jehovah, that this house will become a desolation. ⁶ For Jehovah says thus concerning the house of the king of Judah: You are Gilead to me and the head of Lebanon, yet surely I will make you a wilderness, cities which are not inhabited. ⁷ And I will prepare destroyers against you, each one with his weapons and they will cut down your choice cedars and cast them into the fire.
⁸ And many nations will pass by this city and they will say each man to his neighbor, Why has Jehovah done thus to this great city? ⁹ Then they will answer, Because they forsook the covenant of Jehovah their God and worshiped other gods and served them.
¹⁰ Weep you* not for him who is dead, nor sympathize with him. But weep greatly for him who goes away, for he will return no more, nor see his native country.
¹¹ For Jehovah says thus concerning Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father and who went forth out of this place: He will not return there any more. ¹² But in the place where they have led him captive, there he will die and he will see this land no more.
¹³ Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness and his chambers by injustice, who uses his neighbor's service without wages and gives him not his hire, ¹⁴ who says, I will build me a wide house and spacious chambers and cuts out windows for himself and it is overlaid with cedar and painted with vermilion.
¹⁵ Shall you reign, because you strive to excel in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. ¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy man, then it was well. Was not this to know me? says Jehovah. ¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness and for shedding innocent blood and for oppression and for violence, to do it.
¹⁸ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah. They will not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! They will not lament for him, saying Ah lord! or, Ah his glory! ¹⁹ He will be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
²⁰ Go up to Lebanon and cry. And lift up your voice in Bashan and cry from Abarim. For all your lovers are destroyed. ²¹ I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, I will not hear. This has been your manner from your youth, that you obeyed not my voice. ²² The wind will feed all your shepherds and your loved ones will go into captivity. Surely then you will be ashamed and confounded for all your wickedness.
²³ O inhabitant of Lebanon, who makes your nest in the cedars, how greatly to be pitied you will be when pangs come upon you, the pain as of a woman in travail!
²⁴ As I live, says Jehovah, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet I would pluck you from there, ²⁵ and I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life and into the hand of those of whom you are afraid, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
²⁶ And I will cast you out and your mother who bore you, into another country where you* were not born and there you* will die. ²⁷ But to the land to which their soul longs to return, there they will not return.
²⁸ Is this man Coniah a despised broken vessel? Is he a vessel in which none delights? Why are they cast out, he and his seed and are cast into the land which they do not know?
²⁹ O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of Jehovah. ³⁰ Jehovah says thus: Write this man as childless, a man who will not prosper in his days. For no more will a man of his seed prosper, sitting upon the throne of David and ruling in Judah.

¹² Then Jeremiah spoke to all the rulers and to all the people, saying, Jehovah sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you* have heard. ¹³ Now therefore amend your* ways and your* practices and obey the voice of Jehovah your* God and Jehovah will relent of the evil that he has pronounced against you*.
¹⁴ But as for me, behold, I am in your* hand. Do with me as is good and right in your* eyes. ¹⁵ Only know for certain that, if you* put me to death, you* will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and upon the inhabitants of it. For of a truth Jehovah has sent me to you* to speak all these words in your* ears.

³ And you will not escape out of his hand, but will surely be taken and delivered into his hand. And your eyes will behold the eyes of the king of Babylon and he will speak with you mouth to mouth and you will go to Babylon.

²⁰ I will even give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life. And their dead bodies will be for food to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the earth.
²¹ And I will give Zedekiah king of Judah and his rulers, into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army that has gone away from you*. ²² Behold, I will command, says Jehovah and cause them to return to this city. And they will fight against it and take it and burn it with fire. And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

²⁷ Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah after the king had burned the roll and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, ²⁸ You take again another roll and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.
²⁹ And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you will say, Jehovah says thus: You have burned this roll, saying, Why have you written in it, saying, The king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land and will cause to cease from there man and beast?
³⁰ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have none to sit upon the throne of David. And his dead body will be cast out in the day to the heat and in the night to the frost. ³¹ And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity. And I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they did not listen.
³² Then Jeremiah took another roll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote in it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire and there were added besides to them many like words.

⁷ Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, Thus you* will say to the king of Judah, who sent you* to me to inquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which has come out to help you*, will return to Egypt into their own land.

² Jehovah says thus: He who abides in this city will die by the sword, by the famine and by the pestilence, but he who goes forth to the Chaldeans will live and his life will be to him for a prey and he will live.

¹⁸ But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's rulers, then this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans and they will burn it with fire and you will not escape out of their hand.

²² Now therefore know certainly that you* will die by the sword, by the famine and by the pestilence, in the place where you* desire to go to journey there.

⁸ But as for me, I am full of power by the Spirit of Jehovah and of judgment and of might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.
⁹ Hear this, I beseech you*, you* heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice and pervert all equity.

⁴² And he led him toward Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, You are Simon, the Son of Jonah, you will be called Cephas, which is by translation, a Pebble.

² Many a time they have afflicted me from my youth up, yet they have not prevailed against me.

⁸ Do not be afraid because of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says Jehovah.

¹⁹ But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter. And I did not know that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit of it. And let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may no more be remembered.

¹⁰ Woe is me, my mother, that you have bore me, a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, nor have men lent to me, yet every one of them curses me.
¹¹ Jehovah said, Truly I will strengthen you for good. Truly I will cause the enemy to make supplication to you in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.
¹² Can a man break iron, even iron from the north and brass? ¹³ Your substance and your treasures I will give for a spoil without price. And that for all your sins, even in all your borders. ¹⁴ And I will make them to pass with your enemies into a land which you do not know. For a fire is kindled in my anger, which will burn upon you*.
¹⁵ O Jehovah, you know. Remember me and visit me and avenge me of my persecutors. Take me not away in your longsuffering. Know that for your sake I have suffered reproach.
¹⁶ Your words were found and I ate them. And your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart. For I am called by your name, O Jehovah, God of hosts.
¹⁷ I did not sit in the assembly of those who make merry, nor did I rejoice. I sat alone because of your hand, for you have filled me with indignation. ¹⁸ Why is my pain perpetual and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will you indeed be to me as a deceitful brook, as waters that fail?
¹⁹ Therefore Jehovah says thus: If you return, then I will bring you again that you may stand before me. And if you take forth the precious from the vile, you will be as my mouth. They will return to you, but you will not return to them.

¹ Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Jehovah, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. ² Then Pashhur killed* Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah. ³ And it happened on the morrow, that Pashhur brought out Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, Jehovah has not called your name Pashhur, but Magor-missabib.
⁴ For Jehovah says thus, Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. And they will fall by the sword of their enemies and your eyes will behold it. And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will carry them captive to Babylon and will kill them with the sword.
⁵ Moreover I will give all the riches of this city and all the gains of it and all the precious things of it, yes, all the treasures of the kings of Judah I will give into the hand of their enemies. And they will make them a prey and take them and carry them to Babylon.
⁶ And you, Pashhur and all who dwell in your house will go into captivity. And you will come to Babylon and there you will die and there you will be buried, you and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied falsely.

²⁵ Thus speaks Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying,
Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Jerusalem and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest and to all the priests, saying, ²⁶ Jehovah has made you priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in the house of Jehovah, for every man who is mad and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in shackles. ²⁷ Now therefore, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who makes himself a prophet to you*, ²⁸ inasmuch as he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, It is long. Build you* houses and dwell in them and plant gardens and eat the fruit of them?
²⁹ And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.
³⁰ Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, saying, ³¹ Send to all those of the captivity, saying, Jehovah says thus concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you* and I did not send him and he has caused you* to trust in a lie, ³² therefore Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his seed. He will not have a man to dwell among this people, nor will he behold the good that I will do to my people, says Jehovah, because he has spoken rebellion against Jehovah.

⁶ Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the pit of Malchijah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard. And they let Jeremiah down with cords. And in the pit there was no water, but mud and Jeremiah sank in the mud.
⁷ Now when Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the pit (the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin), ⁸ Ebed-melech went forth out of the king's house and spoke to the king, saying, ⁹ My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet whom they have cast into the pit. And he is likely to die in the place where he is because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city.
¹⁰ Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from here thirty men with you and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the pit before he dies.
¹¹ So Ebed-melech took the men with him and went into the house of the king under the treasury and took from there rags and worn-out garments and let them down by cords into the pit to Jeremiah. ¹² And Ebed-melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, Now put these rags and worn-out garments under your armpits under the cords. And Jeremiah did so. ¹³ So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords and took him up out of the pit. And Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
