¹ And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob has taken away all that was our father's and he has gotten all this glory of what was our father's. ² And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and behold, it was not toward him as formerly.
³ And Jehovah said to Jacob, Return to the land of your fathers and to your kindred and I will be with you.
⁴ And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field to his flock, ⁵ and said to them, I see your* father's countenance, that it is not toward me as formerly, but the God of my father has been with me. ⁶ And you* know that with all my power I have served your* father.
⁷ And your* father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me. ⁸ If he said thus, The speckled will be your wages, then all the flock bore speckled and if he said thus, The striped will be your wages, then all the flock bore striped. ⁹ Thus God has taken away the cattle of your* father and given them to me.
¹⁰ And it happened at the time that the flock conceive, that I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the male-goats which leaped upon the flock were striped, speckled and grayed. ¹¹ And the messenger of God said to me in the dream, Jacob.
And I said, Here I am.
¹² And he said, Lift up now your eyes and see, all the male-goats which leap upon the flock are striped, speckled and grayed, because I have seen all that Laban does to you. ¹³ I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you vowed a vow to me. Now arise, get out from this land and return to the land of your nativity.
¹⁴ And Rachel and Leah answered and said to him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house? ¹⁵ Are we not accounted by him as foreigners? For he has sold us and has also devoured our money. ¹⁶ For all the riches which God has taken away from our father, that is ours and our children's. Now then, whatever God has said to you, do.
¹⁷ Then Jacob rose up and set his sons and his wives upon the camels. ¹⁸ And he carried away all his cattle and all his substance which he had gathered, the cattle of his spoil, which he had gathered in Paddan-aram, to go to Isaac his father to the land of Canaan.
¹⁹ Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep and Rachel stole the household-idol that was her father's. ²⁰ And Jacob slipped away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he did not tell him that he fled. ²¹ So he fled with all that he had. And he rose up and passed over the River and set his face toward the mountain of Gilead.
²² And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled. ²³ And he took his brothers with him and pursued after him seven days' journey and he overtook him in the mountain of Gilead. ²⁴ And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream of the night and said to him, Take heed to yourself that you not speak to Jacob either good or bad.
²⁵ And Laban came up with Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mountain. And Laban encamped with his brothers in the mountain of Gilead. ²⁶ And Laban said to Jacob, What have you done, that you have stolen away my heart and carried away my daughters as captives of the sword? ²⁷ Why did you flee secretly and creep away from me and did not tell me, that I might have sent you away with gladness and with songs, with tambourine and with harp, ²⁸ and did not allow me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now you have done foolishly.
²⁹ It is in the power of my hand to do you* harm, but the God of your* father spoke to me last night, saying, Take heed to yourself that you not speak to Jacob either good or bad. ³⁰ And now, though you have certainly gone, because you have been very desirous for your father's house, yet why have you stolen my gods?
³¹ And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid, because I said, Lest you should take your daughters from me by force. ³² With whomever you find your gods, he will not live, before our brothers. Discern with me what is yours and take it to you. For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.
³³ And Laban went into Jacob's tent and into Leah's tent and into the tent of the two maidservants, but he did not find them. And he went out of Leah's tent and entered into Rachel's tent. ³⁴ Now Rachel had taken the household-idol and put them in the camel's saddle and sat upon them. And Laban felt around all the tent, but did not find them. ³⁵ And she said to her father, Do not let my lord be furious that I cannot rise up before you, because the manner of women is upon me. And he searched, but did not find the household-idol.
³⁶ And Jacob was furious and contended with Laban. And Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? What is my sin that you have hotly-pursued after me? ³⁷ Since you have felt around all my stuff, what have you found of all your household stuff? Set it here before my brothers and your brothers, that they may judge between us two.
³⁸ These twenty years I have been with you, your ewe-lambs and your female-goats have not cast their young and I have not eaten the rams of your flocks. ³⁹ I did not bring to you what was torn by beasts; I bore the loss of it, you required it of my hand, whether stolen by day or stolen by night.
⁴⁰ Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me and the frost by night and my sleep fled from my eyes.
⁴¹ These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flock. And you have changed my wages ten times. ⁴² Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands and rebuked you last night.
⁴³ And Laban answered and said to Jacob, The daughters are my daughters and the sons are my sons and the flocks are my flocks and all that you see is mine. And what can I do this day to these my daughters, or to their sons whom they have borne? ⁴⁴ And now come, let us make a covenant, I and you and let it be for a witness between me and you.
⁴⁵ And Jacob took a stone and lifted it up for a pillar. ⁴⁶ And Jacob said to his brothers, Gather stones and they took stones and made a heap. And they ate there by the heap. ⁴⁷ And Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha.
⁴⁸ And Laban said, This heap is witness between me and you this day. Therefore the name of it was called Galeed, ⁴⁹ and Mizpah. For he said, May Jehovah watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another, ⁵⁰ if you will afflict my daughters and if you will take wives besides my daughters, no man is with us, see, God is witness between me and you.
⁵¹ And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap and behold the pillar, which I have set between me and you. ⁵² This heap is witness and the pillar is witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you and that you will not pass over this heap and this pillar for harm to me. ⁵³ The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.
⁵⁴ And Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain and called his brothers to eat bread. And they ate bread and stayed all night on the mountain. ⁵⁵ And early in the morning Laban rose up and kissed his sons and his daughters and blessed them. And Laban departed and returned to his place.

⁸ If he said thus, The speckled will be your wages, then all the flock bore speckled and if he said thus, The striped will be your wages, then all the flock bore striped. ⁹ Thus God has taken away the cattle of your* father and given them to me.

¹³ And you* will tell my father of all my glory in Egypt and of all that you* have seen. And you* will hasten and bring down my father here.

¹¹ And Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches and the multitude of his sons and all the things in which the king had promoted him and how he had advanced him above the rulers and servants of the king.

²⁴ If I have made gold my hope and have said to the fine gold, You are my confidence; ²⁵ if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great and because my hand had gotten much;

³¹ if the men of my tent have not said, Who can find one who has not been filled with his food?

¹⁴ from men by your hand, O Jehovah, from men of the world whose portion is in this life and whose belly you fill with your treasure. They are satisfied with sons and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

¹⁶ Do not be afraid because a man is made rich, because the glory of his house is increased. ¹⁷ Because when he dies he will carry nothing away. His glory will not descend after him.

⁴ My soul is among lions. I lie among those who are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows and their tongue is a sharp sword.

³ who have flashed their tongue like a sword and have aimed their arrows, even bitter words, ⁴ that they may shoot in secret places at a blameless man. Suddenly do they shoot at him and do not fear.

³ What will be given to you and what will be done more to you, you deceitful tongue? ⁴ Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
⁵ Woe is me, that I journey in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

³⁰ A tranquil heart is the life of the flesh, but envy is the rottenness of the bones.

⁴ Wrath is cruel and anger is overwhelming, but who is able to stand before jealousy?

⁴ Then I saw all labor and every skillful work, that a man is envied for this by his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

¹⁴ Therefore Sheol has enlarged its desire and opened its mouth without measure. And their glory and their multitude and their pomp and he who rejoices among them, descend into it.

²³ Jehovah says thus: Do not let the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor let the mighty man glory in his might. Do not let the rich man glory in his riches,

⁴⁴ Behold, everyone who uses proverbs will use this proverb against you, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.

⁸ Again, the devil takes him to an exceedingly high mountain, and shows him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

⁴ he has been puffed up, knowing nothing, but being mentally diseased concerning debates and quarrels over words, out of which become: envy, strife, blasphemies, evil suspicions,

³ For we were also previously foolish, disobedient, being misled, serving in various lusts and sensual-delights, leading lives in malice and envy, spiteful, hating one another.

²⁴ Because, ‘All flesh is like grass and all the glory of man is like the flower of grass. The grass dried up and the its flower fell away.

⁵ but he did not have respect to Cain and to his offering. And Cain was furious and his countenance fell.

²⁷ And Laban said to him, If now I have found favor in your eyes, stay here, because I have learned by experience that Jehovah has blessed me for your sake.

¹⁰ And Moses said to Jehovah, Oh, Lord, I am not a man of words, neither yesterday nor in any time past, nor since you have spoken to your servant, because I am slow of speech and of a slow tongue.

⁴ And this is the case of the manslayer, who will flee there and live: Whoever kills his neighbor unawares and did not hate him in time past,

⁵⁴ The man who is tender among you* and very delicate, his eye will be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom and toward the remnant of his sons whom he has remaining,

⁹ And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
¹⁰ And it happened on the morrow, that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul and he prophesied in the midst of the house. And David played with his hand, as he did day by day and Saul had his spear in his hand. ¹¹ And Saul cast the spear, for he said, I will kill* David even to the wall. And David turned away from his presence twice.

⁷ And Jonathan called David and Jonathan showed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul and he was in his presence as formerly.

¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. Therefore he spoke and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was accustomed to be heated.

¹⁵ For all the land which you see, to you I will give it and to your seed everlasting.

²² And it happened at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his army spoke to Abraham, saying, God is with you in all that you do.

³ Travel in this land and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and to your seed, I will give all these lands and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father. ⁴ And I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven and will give to your seed all these lands and in your seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed, ⁵ because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my order, my commandments, my statutes and my laws.

²⁴ And Jehovah appeared to him the same night and said, I am the God of Abraham your father. Do not fear, because I am with you and will bless you and multiply your seed for my servant Abraham's sake.

⁴ and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your seed with you, that you may inherit the land of your travels, which God gave to Abraham.

¹³ And behold, Jehovah stood above it and said, I am Jehovah, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie, to you I will give it and to your seed.

¹⁵ And behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done what I have spoken to you.

²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me bread to eat and garments to put on, ²¹ so that I come again to my father's house in peace and Jehovah will be my God, ²² then this stone, which I have set up as a pillar, will be God's house. And of all that you will give me I will surely give the tenth to you.

²⁵ And it happened, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my country.

¹³ I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you vowed a vow to me. Now arise, get out from this land and return to the land of your nativity.

¹⁸ And he carried away all his cattle and all his substance which he had gathered, the cattle of his spoil, which he had gathered in Paddan-aram, to go to Isaac his father to the land of Canaan.

⁹ And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Jehovah, who said to me, Return to your country and to your kindred and I will do good things with you,

¹ And God said to Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.

² And God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here I am. ³ And he said, I am God, the God of your father. Do not fear to go down into Egypt, because I will there make of you a great nation.

²⁴ And Joseph said to his brothers, I die, but God will surely visit you* and bring you* up out of this land to the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob.

¹ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you will glorify me.

¹⁵ Make us glad according to the days in which you have afflicted us and the years in which we have seen evil.

¹⁰ Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

⁵ In the manner of life, not being a money-lover, be content with the things which are present; for he himself has said, I may never be lax concerning you, nor should I ever forsake you.

⁴² Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands and rebuked you last night.

⁵ The bondservants, be obedient to your lords according to the flesh with fear and trembling, in clarity of your heart, as to the Christ; ⁶ not according to eye-service, like men-pleasers, but like bondservants of the Christ, practicing the will of God from your soul; ⁷ serving with benevolence to the Lord and not to men. ⁸ Knowing that whatever good thing each one practices, he will be getting this from the Lord, whether bondservant or free man.

²² The bondservants: be obedient according to all things, those who are your lords according to the flesh; not in eye-services, like men-pleasers, but in clarity of heart, fearing God.
²³ And everything, anything whatever you do, work from your soul, as you would to the Lord and not as to men; ²⁴ knowing that you will be receiving from the Lord the payment of the inheritance; for you are serving the Lord Christ. ²⁵ But he who does wrong will get back what he did wrong and there is no favoritism with God.

⁹ Encourage bondservants to subject themselves to their own masters and be well pleasing to them in all things, not contradicting them; ¹⁰ not pilfering things, but showing all good faith fulness; in order that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in all things.

¹⁸ Domestic servants, be subject to your masters in all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the crooked.

⁶ And God said to him in the dream, Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this. And I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I did not allow you to touch her.

²⁹ It is in the power of my hand to do you* harm, but the God of your* father spoke to me last night, saying, Take heed to yourself that you not speak to Jacob either good or bad.

⁴¹ These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flock. And you have changed my wages ten times.

²⁶ When I break your* staff of bread, ten women will bake your* bread in one oven and they will deliver your* bread again by weight and you* will eat and not be satisfied.

²² because all those men who have seen my glory and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have challenged me these ten times and have not listened to my voice,

¹² And it happened that, when the Jews who dwelt by them came, they said to us ten times, From all places from where you* will return to us they will be upon you*.

¹⁰ Have you not made a hedge on every side on behalf of him and his house and all that he has? You have blessed the work of his hands and his substance is increased in the land.

³ These ten times you* have reproached me. You* are not ashamed that you* deal hardly with me.

⁸ He has walled up my way that I cannot pass and has set darkness in my paths.

²⁸ Because Jehovah loves justice and does not forsake his holy ones. They are preserved everlasting, but the seed of the wicked will be cut off.

¹⁴ He allowed no man to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes, ¹⁵ saying, Touch not my anointed men and do my prophets no harm.

¹ And seven women will take hold of one man in that day, saying, We will eat our own bread and wear our own apparel. Only let us be called by your name; take away our reproach.

¹⁷ No weapon that is formed against you will prosper. And every tongue that will rise against you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Jehovah and their righteousness which is of me, says Jehovah.

²³ Jehovah of hosts says thus: In those days, ten men will take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they will take hold of the skirt of him who is a Jew, saying, We will go with you*, for we have heard that God is with you*.

³² I will pass through all your flock today, removing from there every speckled and spotted one and every black one among the sheep and the spotted and speckled among the goats and these will be my hire.

¹⁶ For all the riches which God has taken away from our father, that is ours and our children's. Now then, whatever God has said to you, do.

¹ On that day king Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman the Jews' enemy to Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told what he was to her. ² And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

¹⁰ Because every beast of the forest is mine and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his son's sons and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.

¹⁵ Or is it not legal for me to do what I will in the things which are mine? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?

¹² And he dreamed and behold, a ladder set up on the earth and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the messengers of God ascending and descending on it.

³⁹ And the flocks conceived before the rods and the flocks brought out striped, speckled and spotted.

²⁴ And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream of the night and said to him, Take heed to yourself that you not speak to Jacob either good or bad.

⁶ And he said, Hear now my words. If there is a prophet among you*, I Jehovah will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream.

¹ If there arise in the midst of you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams and he gives you a sign or a wonder,

⁵ In Gibeon Jehovah appeared to Solomon in a dream by night and God said, Ask what I will give you.

⁷ And the messenger of Jehovah found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. ⁸ And he said, Hagar, Sarai's handmaid, from where have you come? And where are you going?
And she said, I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.
⁹ And the messenger of Jehovah said to her, Return to your mistress and submit yourself under her hands. ¹⁰ And the messenger of Jehovah said to her, I will greatly multiply your seed, that it will not be numbered for multitude.
¹¹ And the messenger of Jehovah said to her, Behold, you are with child and will bear a son and you will call his name Ishmael, because Jehovah has heard your affliction. ¹² And he will be a wild donkey among men, his hand against every man and every man's hand against him and he will dwell in the presence of all his brothers.
¹³ And she called the name of Jehovah who spoke to her, You are a God who sees, because she said, Have I even looked behind him, who sees me here?

¹ And Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

¹⁷ And Jehovah said, Shall I hide from Abraham what I do,

¹ And it happened after these things, that God proved Abraham and said to him, Abraham. And he said, Behold, here I am.

⁵ and said to them, I see your* father's countenance, that it is not toward me as formerly, but the God of my father has been with me.

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph and said, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has fed me all my life long to this day, ¹⁶ the messenger who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads and let my name be named on them and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

⁴ And when Jehovah saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here I am.

⁴ that Jehovah called Samuel. And he said, Here I am.

⁶ And Jehovah called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, Here I am, for you called me. And he answered, I did not call, my son. Lie down again.

⁸ And Jehovah called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, Here I am, for you called me. And Eli perceived that Jehovah had called the child.

¹⁶ Then Eli called Samuel and said, Samuel, my son. And he said, Here I am.

⁹ Then you will call and Jehovah will answer, you will cry and he will say, Here I am. If you take the yoke away from the midst of you, the putting forth of the finger and speaking wickedly,

³⁷ And Jacob took for him rods of fresh poplar and of the almond and of the plane tree and peeled white streaks in them and made the white which was in the rods appear. ³⁸ And he set the rods which he had peeled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs where the flocks came to drink. And they conceived when they came to drink.
³⁹ And the flocks conceived before the rods and the flocks brought out striped, speckled and spotted. ⁴⁰ And Jacob separated the lambs and set the faces of the flocks toward the striped and all the black in the flock of Laban. And he put his own herds apart and did not put them near Laban's flock. ⁴¹ And it happened, whenever the stronger of the flock conceived, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods, ⁴² but when the flock were weak, he did not put them in. So the weaker were Laban's and the stronger Jacob's.
⁴³ And the man increased exceedingly and had large flocks and maid-servants and men-servants and camels and donkeys.

⁷ And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, because I know their sorrows.

⁹ And now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

¹³ You will not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of a hired servant will not abide with you all night until the morning.

¹⁵ You will give him his hire in his day, neither will the sun go down upon it, for he is poor and sets his heart upon it, lest he cry against you to Jehovah and it is sin to you.

⁵ Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy, now I will arise, says Jehovah. I will set him into the safety he breathes for.

³ You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.

⁸ If you see the oppression of a poor man and the violent robbery of justice and righteousness in a province, marvel not at the matter. Because a man higher than the high is observing and there are higher men than they.

³⁴ Having seen, I saw the mistreatment of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their groaning and I have come down to liberate them. And now come-here, I will be sending you into Egypt.

⁹ And the lords, do the same things toward them and be lax with the threatening; knowing that your own Lord is also in the heavens and there is no favoritism from him.

¹² And he dreamed and behold, a ladder set up on the earth and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the messengers of God ascending and descending on it.
¹³ And behold, Jehovah stood above it and said, I am Jehovah, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie, to you I will give it and to your seed. ¹⁴ And your seed will be as the dust of the earth and you will spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed in you and in your seed. ¹⁵ And behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done what I have spoken to you.
¹⁶ And Jacob awoke out of his sleep and he said, Surely Jehovah is in this place and I did not know it. ¹⁷ And he was afraid and said, How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God and this is the gate of heaven. ¹⁸ And Jacob rose up early in the morning and took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil upon the top of it. ¹⁹ And he called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at first.

³ And Jehovah said to Jacob, Return to the land of your fathers and to your kindred and I will be with you.

⁷ And he built there an altar and called the place El-bethel, because God was revealed to him there, when he fled from the face of his brother.

²⁴ Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother and will cling to his wife and the two will be one flesh.

²⁴ And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid to his daughter Leah for a handmaid.

²⁹ And Laban gave to Rachel, his daughter, Bilhah his handmaid to be her handmaid.

¹¹ And all the people who were in the gate and the elders, said, We are witnesses. Jehovah make the woman that has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which two built the house of Israel and do you worthily in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.

¹⁵ And Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be? ¹⁶ And Laban had two daughters. The name of the elder was Leah and the name of the younger was Rachel. ¹⁷ And Leah's eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful of form and appearance. ¹⁸ And Jacob loved Rachel and he said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter. ¹⁹ And Laban said, It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Abide with me.
²⁰ And Jacob served seven years for Rachel. And they seemed to him but a few days in the love he had for her.

²⁷ Fulfill the week of this one and we will also give you the other for the service which you will serve with me yet seven other years.
²⁸ And Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. And he gave him Rachel his daughter as a wife. ²⁹ And Laban gave to Rachel, his daughter, Bilhah his handmaid to be her handmaid. ³⁰ And he also went in to Rachel and also he loved Rachel more than Leah and served with him yet seven other years.

²⁶ Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you and let me go, because you know my service with which I have served you.

⁷ And if a man sells his daughter to be a maid-servant, she will not go out as the men-servants do. ⁸ If she does not please her master, who has espoused her to himself, then he will let her be redeemed. He will have no power to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt deceitfully with her. ⁹ And if he espouses her to his son, he will deal with her according to the manner of daughters. ¹⁰ If he takes him another wife, her food, her garments and her duty of marriage, he will not diminish. ¹¹ And if he does not do these three things to her, then she will go out for nothing, without money.

⁸ And I said to them, According to our ability we have redeemed our brothers the Jews, who were sold to the nations and would you* even sell your* brothers and should they be sold to us? Then they were silent and found not a word.

³⁵ And he removed that day the male-goats that were striped and spotted and all the female-goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it and all the black ones among the sheep and gave them into the hand of his sons.

⁹ Thus God has taken away the cattle of your* father and given them to me.

¹⁰ Listen, O daughter and consider and incline your ear. Forget also your own people and your father's house.

¹⁰ And the servant took ten camels, of the camels of his master and departed, having all good things of his master's in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.

⁶¹ And Rebekah arose and her maidens and they rode upon the camels and followed the man. And the servant took Rebekah and went his way.

¹⁷ And David killed* them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. And there escaped not a man of them, except four hundred young men who rode upon camels and fled.

¹ And it happened, that when Isaac was old and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his elder son and said to him, My son. And he said to him, Here I am. ² And he said, Behold now, I am old, I do not know the day of my death.

⁴¹ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob.

²¹ so that I come again to my father's house in peace and Jehovah will be my God,

²⁷ And Jacob came to Isaac his father to Mamre, to Kiriath-arba (what is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac traveled.

²⁸ And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years. ²⁹ And Isaac gave up the spirit and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. And Esau and Jacob his sons buried him.

³⁰ And now, though you have certainly gone, because you have been very desirous for your father's house, yet why have you stolen my gods?

³² With whomever you find your gods, he will not live, before our brothers. Discern with me what is yours and take it to you. For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.

³⁴ Now Rachel had taken the household-idol and put them in the camel's saddle and sat upon them. And Laban felt around all the tent, but did not find them.

² Then Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, Put away the foreign gods that are among you* and purify yourselves and change your* garments.

² And Joshua said to all the people, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Your* fathers dwelt of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor and they served other gods.

⁴ And when he restored the money to his mother, his mother took two hundred pieces of silver and gave them to the founder, who made of it a graven image and a molten image. And it was in the house of Micah. ⁵ And the man Micah had a house of gods and he made an ephod and household-idol and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.

¹⁴ Then the five men who went to spy out the country of Laish, answered and said to their brothers, Do you* know that there is in these houses an ephod and household-idol and a graven image and a molten image? Now therefore consider what you* have to do. ¹⁵ And they turned aside there and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even to the house of Micah and asked him of his welfare. ¹⁶ And the six hundred men girded with their weapons of war, who were of the sons of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.
¹⁷ And the five men who went to spy out the land went up and came in there and took the graven image and the ephod and the household-idol and the molten image. And the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men girded with weapons of war. ¹⁸ And when these went into Micah's house and fetched the graven image, the ephod and the household-idol and the molten image, the priest said to them, What do you* say?
¹⁹ And they said to him, Hold your peace, lay your hand upon your mouth and go with us and be to us a father and a priest. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and a family in Israel? ²⁰ And the priest's heart was glad and he took the ephod and the household-idol and the graven image and went in the midst of the people.
²¹ So they turned and departed and put the little ones and the cattle and the goods before them. ²² When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men who were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together and overtook the sons of Dan.
²³ And they cried out to the sons of Dan. And they turned their faces and said to Micah, What troubles you that you come with such a company? ²⁴ And he said, you* have taken away my gods which I made and the priest and have gone away and what have I more? And how do you* then say to me, What troubles you?

³¹ So they set up for them Micah's graven image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

¹³ And Michal took the household-idol and laid it in the bed and put a pillow of goats' hair at the head of it and covered it with the clothes.

²¹ For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination. He shook the arrows to and fro. He consulted the household-idol. He looked in the liver.

⁴ For the sons of Israel will abide many days without king and without ruler and without sacrifice and without pillar and without ephod or household-idol.

¹⁴ And the name of the third river is Hiddekel. It is that river which goes east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

¹⁸ In that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

²³ And he took his brothers with him and pursued after him seven days' journey and he overtook him in the mountain of Gilead.

²⁵ And they sat down to eat bread. And they lifted up their eyes and looked, and behold, a caravan of Ishmaelites was coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

²⁸ And he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to show the way before him to Goshen and they came into the land of Goshen.

¹ And when Balaam saw that it pleased Jehovah to bless Israel, he did not go, as at the other times, to meet with omens, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

¹ Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle. And when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle,

¹² And we took this land in possession at that time. From Aroer, which is by the valley of the Arnon and half the hill-country of Gilead and the cities of it, I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

⁸ With him the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them: ⁹ from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon and the city that is in the middle of the valley and all the plain of Medeba to Dibon;

² And Joshua said to all the people, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Your* fathers dwelt of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor and they served other gods. ³ And I took your* father Abraham from beyond the River and led him throughout all the land of Canaan and multiplied his seed and gave him Isaac.

¹⁸ And the people, the rulers of Gilead, said one to another, What man is he who will begin to fight against the sons of Ammon? He will be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the travelers of Gilead, said to Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there will not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹⁷ Then Hazael king of Syria went up and fought against Gath and took it. And Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.

⁵ They will inquire concerning Zion with their faces toward it, saying, Come and join yourselves to Jehovah in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.

⁵¹ Now it happened, when the days were being fulfilled of his taking up, he established his face to travel to Jerusalem, ⁵² and sent messengers before his face, and they traveled and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so-then to prepare for him. ⁵³ But they did not accept him, because his face was established to be traveling to Jerusalem.

³⁶ And he set three days' journey between himself and Jacob. And Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.

⁵ And it was told the King of Egypt that the people were fled. And the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people and they said, What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us? ⁶ And he made ready his chariot and took his people with him. ⁷ And he took six hundred chosen chariots and all the chariots of Egypt and captains over all of them.
⁸ And Jehovah hardened the heart of Pharaoh King of Egypt and he pursued after the sons of Israel, and the sons of Israel went out with a high hand. ⁹ And the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh and his horsemen and his army and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.
¹⁰ And when Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them and they were very afraid. And the sons of Israel cried out to Jehovah.
¹¹ And they said to Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt? ¹² Is not this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
¹³ And Moses said to the people, Do not fear. Stand still and see the salvation of Jehovah, which he will work for you* today, because the Egyptians whom you* have seen today, you* will see them again everlasting. ¹⁴ Jehovah will fight for you* and you* will keep silent.
¹⁵ And Jehovah said to Moses, Why do you cry to me? Speak to the sons of Israel, that they go forward. ¹⁶ And lift you up your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it and the sons of Israel will go into the midst of the sea on dry ground.
¹⁷ And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians and they will go in after them and I will get for me honor upon Pharaoh and upon all his army, upon his chariots and upon his horsemen. ¹⁸ And the Egyptians will know that I am Jehovah, when I have gotten for me honor upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots and upon his horsemen.
¹⁹ And the messenger of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. ²⁰ And it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. And the cloud and the darkness was there, yet it gave light by night. And the one did not come near the other all the night.
²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and Jehovah caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night and made the sea dry land and the waters were divided. ²² And the sons of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. ²³ And the Egyptians pursued and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots and his horsemen.
²⁴ And it happened in the morning watch, that Jehovah looked forth upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of cloud and troubled the army of the Egyptians. ²⁵ And he took off their chariot wheels and they drove them with difficulty, so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel, because Jehovah fights for them against the Egyptians.
²⁶ And Jehovah said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and upon their horsemen. ²⁷ And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared and the Egyptians fled against it and Jehovah overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
²⁸ And the waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all the army of Pharaoh who went in after them into the sea, there remained not so much as one of them. ²⁹ But the sons of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
³⁰ Thus Jehovah saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea-shore. ³¹ And Israel saw the great work which Jehovah did upon the Egyptians. And the people feared Jehovah and they believed in Jehovah and in his servant Moses.

¹² He frustrates the devices of the crafty so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness and the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

⁸ And Abram said to Lot, I beseech you, let there be no strife between me and you and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, in that we are men– brothers.

²⁷ And he said, Praise Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master, I being in the way, Jehovah has led me to the house of my master's brothers.

¹¹ And it happened in those days, when Moses was grown up, that he went out to his brothers and looked on their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian slaying a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

¹³ And he went out the second day, and behold, two men of the Hebrews were striving together. And he said to him who did the wrong, Why do you kill* your neighbor?

³ But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night and said to him, Behold, you are but a dead man, over the woman whom you have taken; she is a man's wife.

⁵⁰ Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceeds from Jehovah; we cannot speak to you bad or good.

⁵ And Isaac sent Jacob away. And he went to Paddan-aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

¹⁰ And it happened at the time that the flock conceive, that I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the male-goats which leaped upon the flock were striped, speckled and grayed.

⁵ And they dreamed a dream both of them in one night, each man his dream, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the cupbearer and the baker of the King of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.

¹ And it happened at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed. And behold, he stood by the river.

²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them, but only the word which I speak to you, that will you do.

²⁶ And the messenger of Jehovah went further and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.

¹³ If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah, to do either good or bad of my own mind. What Jehovah speaks, that I will speak?

⁵ And you will answer and say before Jehovah your God, My father was a Syrian ready to perish and he went down into Egypt and traveled there, few in number. And he became there a nation, great, mighty and populous.

²² And Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad, for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

¹⁵ In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumbering upon the bed.
¹⁶ Then he opens the ears of men and seals their instruction ¹⁷ that he may withdraw man from his purpose and hide pride from man.

²⁵ His flesh will be fresher than a child's. He returns to the days of his youth.

²⁹ Because of your raging against me and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

¹² And Jacob fled into the field of Aram and Israel served for a wife and for a wife he kept sheep.

²⁰ But when he was contemplating these things, behold, a messenger of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary to you, as your wife for what was born in her is from the Holy Spirit.

¹² And having been divinely-warned in a dream not to revisit Herod, they departed into their own region through another way.

¹⁹ Now while sitting upon the judicial-seat, his wife sent to him, saying, Have nothing between you and that righteous man; for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of him.

⁸ And he moved from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to Jehovah and called upon the name of Jehovah.

¹⁸ And Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan-aram and encamped before the city.

⁹ In faith, he sojourned in the land of promise, as an alien, having dwelt in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the joint heirs of the same promise.

¹³ And Jehovah God said to the woman, What is this that you have done?
And the woman said, The serpent deceived me and I ate.

¹⁰ And he said, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground.

¹⁸ And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she is your wife?

⁹ Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What have you done to us? And in what way have I sinned against you, that you have brought such a great sin on me and on my kingdom? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done. ¹⁰ And Abimelech said to Abraham, What did you see, that you have done this thing?

¹⁰ And Abimelech said, What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife and you would have brought guilt upon us.

³⁶ And Jacob was furious and contended with Laban. And Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? What is my sin that you have hotly-pursued after me?

²⁹ and all their wealth and all their little ones and their wives, they took captive and made a prey, even all that was in the house.

¹⁹ And Joshua said to Achan, I beseech you, my son give glory to Jehovah, the God of Israel and make confession to him and tell me now what you have done. Hide it not from me.

⁴³ Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan told him and said, I did certainly taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand. And behold, I must die.

²⁹ And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

² and had taken captive the women and all that were in it, both small and great. They did not kill any, but carried them off and went their way.

³⁵ Pilate answered, I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the high-priests gave you to me. What have you done?

²¹ And his brother's name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who handle the harp and pipe.

⁵⁹ And they sent Rebekah their sister away and her nurse and Abraham's servant and his men. ⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, Our sister, you will be the mother of thousands of ten thousands and let your seed possess the gate of those who hate them.

³ And Jehovah said to Jacob, Return to the land of your fathers and to your kindred and I will be with you.
⁴ And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field to his flock, ⁵ and said to them, I see your* father's countenance, that it is not toward me as formerly, but the God of my father has been with me.

²⁰ And Jacob slipped away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he did not tell him that he fled. ²¹ So he fled with all that he had. And he rose up and passed over the River and set his face toward the mountain of Gilead.

³¹ And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid, because I said, Lest you should take your daughters from me by force.

²⁰ And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

²⁷ Then Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as Jehovah had spoken to him. And it happened, because he feared his father's household and the men of the city, so that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.

¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock and their children dance. ¹² They sing to the timbrel and harp and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.
¹³ They spend their days in prosperity and in a moment they go down to Sheol.
¹⁴ And they say to God, Depart from us, for we do not desire the knowledge of your ways.

²³ Fervent lips and a wicked heart are an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
²⁴ He who hates masquerades with his lips, but he lays up deceit within him. ²⁵ Because he speaks graciously, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart.
²⁶ Though his hatred cover itself with guile, his wickedness will be openly shown before the assembly.

¹³ And it happened, when Laban heard the news of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him and embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

⁵⁵ And early in the morning Laban rose up and kissed his sons and his daughters and blessed them. And Laban departed and returned to his place.

²⁷ And Jehovah said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went and met him on the mountain of God and kissed him.

⁹ Jehovah grant you* that you* may find rest, each of you* in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them and they lifted up their voices and wept.

¹⁴ And they lifted up their voices and wept again. And Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of Jehovah your God, which he commanded you. For now Jehovah would have established your kingdom upon Israel until everlasting,

²⁰ And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, I beseech you, let me kiss my father and my mother and then I will follow you. And he said to him, Go back again, for what have I done to you?

⁹ For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong to those whose heart is perfect toward him. In this you have done foolishly, for from hereafter you will have wars.

³⁷ But there became considerable weeping from all, and having fallen upon Paul’s neck, they were kissing him,

¹⁴ Now the physical man is not accepting the things from the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually examined.

¹⁰ Thus will you* speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

¹ Why boast you yourself in mischief, O mighty man? The loving kindness of God is continual.

⁴⁷ The king answered to Daniel and said, Of a truth your* God is the God of gods and Lord of kings and a revealer of secrets, since you have been able to reveal this secret.

²⁸ Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, Praise the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, who has sent his messenger and delivered his servants who trusted in him and have changed the king's word and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

²⁰ And when he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a lamentable voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?

²⁶ I make a decree, that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God and steadfast forever. And his kingdom is what will not be destroyed and his dominion will be even to the end.

¹⁰ Therefore Pilate says to him, Why do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and have authority to crucify you?
¹¹ Jesus answered, You have no authority against me, except what was given to you from above. He who gave me to you has the greater sin because of this.

³⁸ And hereafter I say to you, Withdraw from these men and permit them to continue, because if this plan or this work is from men, it will be torn-down; ³⁹ but if it is from God, you will not be able to tear it down; lest you might be found even to be quarreling against God.

⁵ But he said, Who are you, Lord?
But the Lord said, I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. It is harsh for you to kick the cattle-prods.

¹⁹ Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep and Rachel stole the household-idol that was her father's.

¹² For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night and will kill* all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments. I am Jehovah.

⁴ while the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn whom Jehovah had struck among them; upon their gods also Jehovah executed judgments.

³¹ And Joash said to all who stood against him, Will you* contend for Baal? Or will you* save him? He who will contend for him, let him be put to death while it is morning. If he is a god, let him contend for himself because he has broken down his altar.

²⁴ And he said, you* have taken away my gods which I made and the priest and have gone away and what have I more? And how do you* then say to me, What troubles you?

² And the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon. ³ And when those of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon and set him in his place again.
⁴ And when they arose early on the morning of the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands lay cut off upon the threshold. Only the stump of Dagon was left to him. ⁵ Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any who come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, to this day.
⁶ But the hand of Jehovah was heavy upon them of Ashdod and he destroyed them and killed* them with tumors, even Ashdod and the borders of it.

²¹ And they left their images there and David and his men took them away.

¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols are upon the beasts and upon the cattle. The things that you* carried about are made a load, a burden to the weary beast. ² They stoop, they bow down together. They could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.

¹¹ Thus you* will say to them: The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.

¹² And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt and he will burn them and carry them away captive. And he will array himself with the land of Egypt as a shepherd puts on his garment and he will go forth from there in peace.

¹¹ And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place and they will kill me because of my wife.

²⁶ And Laban said to Jacob, What have you done, that you have stolen away my heart and carried away my daughters as captives of the sword? ²⁷ Why did you flee secretly and creep away from me and did not tell me, that I might have sent you away with gladness and with songs, with tambourine and with harp,

²⁵ The fear of man brings a snare, but he who puts his trust in Jehovah will be safe.

⁷ And he said, I beseech you*, my brothers, do not act so wickedly.

³³ So will my righteousness answer for me after this, when you will come concerning my hire that is before you. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats and black among the sheep, that is with me, will be considered stolen.

⁹ With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die and we also will be my lord's bondmen. ¹⁰ And he said, Now also let it be according to your* words. He with whom it is found will be my bondman and you* will be blameless.
¹¹ Then they hurried and took down every man his sack to the ground and opened every man his sack. ¹² And he searched, and began at the eldest and left off at the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.

³ Here I am. Witness against me before Jehovah and before his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or of whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? And I will restore it to you*.
⁴ And they said, You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything of any man's hand. ⁵ And he said to them, Jehovah is witness against you* and his anointed is witness this day, that you* have not found anything in my hand. And they said, He is witness.

²⁴ And the men of Israel were distressed that day, for Saul had put the people under an oath, saying, Cursed be the man who eats any food until it is evening and I am avenged on my enemies. So none of the people tasted food. ²⁵ And all the people came into the forest and there was honey upon the ground. ²⁶ And when the people came to the forest, behold, the honey dropped, but no man put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.
²⁷ But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath, therefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in the honeycomb and put his hand to his mouth and his eyes were enlightened. ²⁸ Then one of the people answered and said, Your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man who eats food this day and the people were faint.
²⁹ Then Jonathan said, My father has troubled the land. See, I beseech you*, how my eyes have been enlightened because I tasted a little of this honey.

²⁰ We are avoiding this thing, lest anyone might blame us in the matter of this lavish donation which is served by us; ²¹ planning-for good things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

¹⁷ By anyone whom I have sent to you. I did not take-advantage of you in anything through him, did I? ¹⁸ I encouraged Titus and I sent the brother together with him. Did Titus take-advantage of any of you? Did we not walk in the same spirit? Did we not walk in the same footprints?
¹⁹ Again, do you think that we are defending ourselves to you? We speak in Christ in God’s sight. But beloved, all things are on behalf of your building up.

²⁸ And the girl ran and told her mother's house according to these words.

⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent and took Rebekah and she became his wife and he loved her. And Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

¹⁷ Then Jacob rose up and set his sons and his wives upon the camels.

¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age. It had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. ¹² And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I have become old shall I have pleasure from my lord who is also old?

¹² Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Jehovah your God gives you.

¹⁹ And if a woman has a discharge and her discharge in her flesh is blood, she will be seven days in her impurity and whoever touches her will be unclean until the evening.

³ Every man will fear his mother and his father. And you* will keep my Sabbaths. I am Jehovah your* God.

³² You will rise up before the hoary head and honor the face of the old man and you will fear your God. I am Jehovah.

¹⁹ Bathsheba therefore went to king Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her and bowed himself to her and sat down on his throne and caused a throne to be set for the king's mother. And she sat on his right hand.

¹ The children, obey^*\'b0 your parents in the Lord; for this is righteous.

⁶ as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord; whose children you became, doing good and not fearing any terror.

² And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel and he said, Am I in God's place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?

⁷ And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. And the men were grieved and they were furious, because he had done senselessness in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter, which thing ought not to be done.

⁷ Cursed be their anger, because it was fierce and their wrath, because it was cruel. I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel.

¹⁵ And Moses was very angry and said to Jehovah, Do not respect you their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

¹¹ But Naaman was angry and went away and said, Behold, I thought he will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of Jehovah his God and wave his hand over the place and heal the leper.

¹⁹ And the man of God was angry with him and said, You should have struck five or six times. Then you would have struck Syria till you had consumed it, but now you will kill* Syria but three times.

¹ A wicked man flees when no man pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

⁵ And having looked around at them with anger, being sorrowful at the hardening of their heart, he says to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as healthy as the other.

²⁶ ‘Be angry and do not sin.’Do not let the sun set upon your anger,

¹⁹ So-then my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. ²⁰ For the wrath of man is not working out the righteousness of God.

²³ And they took them from the midst of the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the sons of Israel and they laid them down before Jehovah.

³ Here I am. Witness against me before Jehovah and before his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or of whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? And I will restore it to you*.
⁴ And they said, You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything of any man's hand.

¹⁶ But if he does not hear you, take with you one or two more, in order that, ‘at the mouth of two or three witnesses every declaration should be established.’

⁴ Therefore, if you indeed have courts concerning things of everyday life, why are you seating those who have been scorned in the congregation as judges? ⁵ I am saying this to shame you. So is there not one wise person among you? Not even one who will be able to judge between his brethren?

¹⁰ You and God are witnesses, as we became holy and righteous and blameless toward you who believe.

¹⁸ Pray concerning us; for we have confidence that we have a good conscience, wishing to conduct ourselves in a good manner in all things.

¹² having your good conduct seen among the Gentiles; in order that, in what they are speaking against you, as evildoers, they may glorify God in the day of visitation, having eye-witnessed things from your good works.

¹⁶ having a good conscience; in order that, in what they are speaking against you as evildoers, they may be ashamed who are railing at your good conduct in Christ.

³⁰ For it was little which you had before I came and it has increased to a multitude and Jehovah has blessed you wherever I turned. And now when shall I also provide for my own house?

²⁶ There will none cast her young, nor be barren, in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.

⁴ The fruit of your body will be blessed and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your beasts, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock.

² Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the sheep?
³ You* eat the fat and you* clothe yourselves with the wool. You* kill the fattened-ones, but you* do not feed the sheep. ⁴ You* have not strengthened the diseased, nor have you* healed what was sick, nor have you* bound up what was broken, nor have you* brought back what was driven away, nor have you* sought what was lost, but you* have ruled over them with force and with rigor.

¹⁰ If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep and it dies, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it, ¹¹ the oath of Jehovah will be between them both, whether he has not put his hand to his neighbor's goods. And the owner of it will accept it and he will not make restitution.
¹² But if it is stolen from him, he will make restitution to the owner of it. ¹³ If it is torn in pieces, let him bring it for evidence. He will not make good what was torn.

³¹ And you* will be holy men to me. Therefore you* will not eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field. You* will cast it to the dogs.

⁸ What dies of itself, or is torn by beasts, he will not eat to defile himself with it. I am Jehovah.

³⁴ And David said to Saul, Your servant was keeping his father's sheep and when there came a lion, or a bear and took a lamb out of the flock, ³⁵ I went out after him and killed* him and delivered it out of his mouth. And when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and killed* him and killed him.

⁸ And there were shepherds in the same region, camping out and observing watches over their flock by night.

¹² But the hired-servant and not being the shepherd, whose sheep are not his own, views the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees and the wolf seizes them and scatters the sheep. ¹³ Now the hired-servant flees because he is a hired-servant and he himself does not care concerning the sheep.

¹⁹ And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds and moreover he drew water for us and watered the flock. ²⁰ And he said to his daughters, And where is he? Why is it that you* have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.
²¹ And Moses was content to dwell with the man and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter. ²² And she bore a son and he called his name Gershom, because he said, I have been a traveler in a foreign land.

¹ Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the wilderness and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.

⁷⁰ He also chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds. ⁷¹ He brought him from following the ewe-lambs that have their young, to be the shepherd of Jacob his people and Israel his inheritance.

¹⁵ Therefore when they had a meal, Jesus says to Simon Peter, Simon, Son of Jonah, do you ^{F} love me more-than these things?
He says to him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.
He says to him, Feed my lambs.
¹⁶ He says to him again a second-time, Simon, Son of Jonah, do you ^{F} love me?
He says to him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.
He says to him, Shepherd my sheep.
¹⁷ He says to him the third-time, Simon, Son of Jonah, Do you ^{F} love me?
Peter was sorrowful because he said to him the third-time, Do you ^{F} love me like a friend? And he said to him, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you like a friend.
Jesus says to him, Feed my sheep.

⁷ Remember your leaders, men who spoke to you the word of God, and review the outcome of their conduct; imitate the faith of such.

² Shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising the oversight, not by compulsion, but willfully, nor covetously, but eagerly; ³ nor like one lording it over his inheritances, but by becoming examples to the flock. ⁴ And when the Chief-Shepherd is made manifest, you will be getting the unfading crown of glory.

¹⁸ And Jacob loved Rachel and he said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter. ¹⁹ And Laban said, It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Abide with me.
²⁰ And Jacob served seven years for Rachel. And they seemed to him but a few days in the love he had for her. ²¹ And Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her. ²² And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast. ²³ And it happened in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to him. And he went in to her. ²⁴ And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid to his daughter Leah for a handmaid.
²⁵ And it happened in the morning that, behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me? ²⁶ And Laban said, It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.

³³ So will my righteousness answer for me after this, when you will come concerning my hire that is before you. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats and black among the sheep, that is with me, will be considered stolen.
³⁴ And Laban said, Behold, O that it might be according to your word. ³⁵ And he removed that day the male-goats that were striped and spotted and all the female-goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it and all the black ones among the sheep and gave them into the hand of his sons. ³⁶ And he set three days' journey between himself and Jacob. And Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.
³⁷ And Jacob took for him rods of fresh poplar and of the almond and of the plane tree and peeled white streaks in them and made the white which was in the rods appear. ³⁸ And he set the rods which he had peeled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs where the flocks came to drink. And they conceived when they came to drink.
³⁹ And the flocks conceived before the rods and the flocks brought out striped, speckled and spotted. ⁴⁰ And Jacob separated the lambs and set the faces of the flocks toward the striped and all the black in the flock of Laban. And he put his own herds apart and did not put them near Laban's flock.

⁷ And your* father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me.

³⁸ These twenty years I have been with you, your ewe-lambs and your female-goats have not cast their young and I have not eaten the rams of your flocks.

¹⁰ But I am what I am by the grace of God and his grace toward me has not become empty, but I labored even-more than they all did; but not I, but the grace of God which was together with me.

²⁶ often in journeys, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers, in perils from my own race, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils by false brethren;

⁵ And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of man built.

¹¹ And the messenger of Jehovah said to her, Behold, you are with child and will bear a son and you will call his name Ishmael, because Jehovah has heard your affliction.

¹³ And she called the name of Jehovah who spoke to her, You are a God who sees, because she said, Have I even looked behind him, who sees me here?

³³ And Isaac trembled very exceedingly and said, Who then is he who has taken game and brought it to me and I have eaten of all before you came and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed.

³² And Leah conceived and bore a son and she called his name Reuben. For she said, Because Jehovah has looked upon my affliction, because now my husband will love me.

¹² And he said, Lift up now your eyes and see, all the male-goats which leap upon the flock are striped, speckled and grayed, because I have seen all that Laban does to you.

¹⁷ And David went out to meet them and answered and said to them, If you* have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart will be knit to you*, but if you * are coming to betray me to my adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look on it and rebuke it.

⁷ I will be glad and rejoice in your loving kindness, for you have seen my affliction. You have known my soul in adversities,

¹¹ Vow and pay to Jehovah your* God. Let all who are all around him bring presents to him who ought to be feared.
¹² He will cut off the spirit of rulers. He is fearful to the kings of the earth.

¹ If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side, let Israel now say, ² if it had not been Jehovah who was on our side when men rose up against us, ³ then they would have swallowed us up alive when their wrath was kindled against us,

¹³ Jehovah of hosts, him you* will sanctify and let him be your* fear and let him be your* dread.

⁹ But Michael the archangel, when arguing with the devil, after he was reasoning concerning the body of Moses, he did not dare to bring a judging of blasphemy against him, but said, The Lord rebuke you.

²² And it happened at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his army spoke to Abraham, saying, God is with you in all that you do. ²³ Now therefore swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son. But according to the kindness that I have done to you, you will do to me and to the land in which you have traveled. ²⁴ And Abraham said, I will swear.
²⁵ And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of the well of water which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away. ²⁶ And Abimelech said, I do not know who has done this thing, neither did you tell me, nor yet did I hear of it, except today.
²⁷ And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech. And the two made a covenant. ²⁸ And Abraham set seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves. ²⁹ And Abimelech said to Abraham, What do these seven ewe-lambs mean which you have set by themselves? ³⁰ And he said, For these seven ewe-lambs you will take from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well. ³¹ Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because both of them swore there.
³² So they cut a covenant at Beer-sheba. And Abimelech rose up and Phicol the captain of his army and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

²⁸ And they said, We saw plainly that Jehovah was with you. And we said, Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you. And let us make a covenant with you, ²⁹ that you will do us no evil, as we have not touched you and as we have done to you nothing but good and have sent you away in peace. You now are the blessed of Jehovah.
³⁰ And he made a feast for them and they ate and drank. ³¹ And they rose up promptly in the morning and swore one to another. And Isaac sent them away and they departed from him in peace.

⁴⁸ And Laban said, This heap is witness between me and you this day. Therefore the name of it was called Galeed,

⁵² This heap is witness and the pillar is witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you and that you will not pass over this heap and this pillar for harm to me.

¹⁹ Now therefore write this song for you* and teach you it the sons of Israel. Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the sons of Israel.

²¹ And it will happen, when many evils and troubles have come upon them, that this song will testify before them as a witness, for it will not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed. For I know their imagination which they frame this day, before I have brought them into the land which I swore.

²⁶ Take this book of the law and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your* God, that it may be there for a witness against you.

²⁷ but it will be a witness between us and you* and between our generations after us, that we may do the service of Jehovah before him with our burnt offerings and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings, that your* sons may not say to our sons in time to come, You* have no portion in Jehovah.

²⁵ So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
²⁶ And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God. And he took a great stone and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Jehovah.
²⁷ And Joshua said to all the people, Behold, this stone will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of Jehovah which he spoke to us. It will be therefore a witness against you*, lest you* deny your* God.

¹⁴ And you will not only show me the loving kindness of Jehovah, while I yet live, that I not die, ¹⁵ but also you will not cut off your kindness from my house until everlasting. No, not when Jehovah has cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.
¹⁶ So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, And Jehovah will require it at the hand of David's enemies. ¹⁷ And Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him. For he loved him as he loved his own soul.

³⁷ Since you have felt around all my stuff, what have you found of all your household stuff? Set it here before my brothers and your brothers, that they may judge between us two.

⁵⁴ And Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain and called his brothers to eat bread. And they ate bread and stayed all night on the mountain.

⁵ And Joshua said to them, Pass over before the ark of Jehovah your* God into the midst of the Jordan and take up every man of you* a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel, ⁶ that this may be a sign among you*, that, when your* children ask in time to come, saying, What do you* mean by these stones? ⁷ Then you* will say to them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones will be for a memorial to the sons of Israel everlasting.
⁸ And the sons of Israel did so as Joshua commanded and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as Jehovah spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel and they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged and laid them down there.
⁹ And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood and they are there to this day.

²⁰ And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal. ²¹ And he spoke to the sons of Israel, saying, When your* sons will ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What do these stones mean?
²² Then you* will let your* sons know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. ²³ For Jehovah your* God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you*, until you* were passed over, as Jehovah your* God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were passed over, ²⁴ that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Jehovah, that it is mighty, that you* may fear Jehovah your* God forever.

²⁶ And they raised over him a great heap of stones, to this day and Jehovah turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called the valley of Achor to this day.

¹⁷ And they took Absalom and cast him into the great pit in the forest and raised over him a very great heap of stones. And all Israel fled every man to his tent.

⁵ a time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

¹ Therefore, since we also have so-great a cloud of witnesses encompassing us, let us run through endurance the contest laying before us, placing away from ourselves every interference, and the easily restricting sin.

³⁶ From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon and from the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us. Jehovah our God delivered up all before us.

¹⁶ And I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites from Gilead even to the valley of the Arnon, the middle of the valley and the border of it, even to the brook of Jabbok, which is the border of the sons of Ammon,

²⁷ And Joshua said to all the people, Behold, this stone will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of Jehovah which he spoke to us. It will be therefore a witness against you*, lest you* deny your* God.

¹⁷ Then the sons of Ammon were gathered together and encamped in Gilead. And the sons of Israel assembled themselves together and encamped in Mizpah.

¹¹ Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead and the people made him head and chief over them. And Jephthah spoke all his words before Jehovah in Mizpah.

²⁹ Then the Spirit of Jehovah came upon Jephthah and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over to the sons of Ammon.

⁵ And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah and I will pray for you* to Jehovah. ⁶ And they gathered together to Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before Jehovah and fasted on that day and said there, We have sinned against Jehovah. And Samuel judged the sons of Israel in Mizpah.

²² Then king Asa made a proclamation to all Judah; none was exempted. And they carried away the stones of Ramah and the timber of it, with which Baasha had built. And king Asa built with it Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.

¹ Hear this, O you* priests and listen, O house of Israel and listen, O house of the king, for to you* is the judgment. For you* have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor.

¹⁸ And you will not take a wife in addition to her sister, to be a rival to her, to uncover her nakedness, besides the other in her life-time.

¹⁰ And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, Jehovah will be witness between us. Surely according to your word so will we do.

⁵ And he said to them, Jehovah is witness against you* and his anointed is witness this day, that you* have not found anything in my hand. And they said, He is witness.

²³ because they have done senselessness in Israel and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I did not command them. And I am he who knows and am witness, says Jehovah.

⁵ Then they said to Jeremiah, Jehovah be a true and faithful witness among us, if we do not according to all the word with which Jehovah your God will send you to us.

² Hear, you* peoples, all of you*. Listen, O earth and all who are in it and let the Lord Jehovah be witness against you*, the Lord from his holy temple.

¹⁴ Yet you* say, Why?
Because Jehovah has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt with treacherously, though she is your companion and the wife of your covenant.

⁵ And I will come near to you* to judgment and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against the false swearers and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the fatherless and who turn aside the traveler and do not fear me, says Jehovah of hosts.

⁵ And said, Because of this, a man will be leaving his father and mother and will be joined to his wife, and the two will be jointed into one flesh. ⁶ So-that they are no more two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has yoked together; let man not separate.

⁵ For just-as you know, (God being witness), we neither previously came in words of flattery, nor in a pretext of greed,

⁴⁴ And now come, let us make a covenant, I and you and let it be for a witness between me and you.
⁴⁵ And Jacob took a stone and lifted it up for a pillar.

²⁴ And Nahor lived twenty-nine years and fathered Terah. ²⁵ And Nahor lived a hundred and nineteen years after he fathered Terah and fathered more sons and daughters.
²⁶ And Terah lived seventy years and fathered Abram, Nahor and Haran.
²⁷ Now these are the genealogies of Terah were : Terah fathered Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran fathered Lot. ²⁸ And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
²⁹ And Abram and Nahor took wives to themselves. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.

³¹ And Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife. And they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan. And they came to Haran and dwelt there.

²² And Abram said to the King of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,

⁵ And Sarai said to Abram, My wrong be upon you. I gave my handmaid into your bosom and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes. Jehovah judge between me and you.

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your seed after you.

²³ Now therefore swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son. But according to the kindness that I have done to you, you will do to me and to the land in which you have traveled. ²⁴ And Abraham said, I will swear.

²⁰ And it happened after these things, that it was told to Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she has also borne sons to your brother Nahor: ²¹ Uz his first born and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram, ²² and Chesed and Hazo and Pildash and Jidlaph and Bethuel. ²³ And Bethuel fathered Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother. ²⁴ And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she also bore Tebah and Gaham and Tahash and Maacah.

³ And I will make you swear by Jehovah, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell. ⁴ But you will go to my country and to my kindred and take a wife for my son Isaac.

⁶ Moreover he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look upon God.

¹³ You will fear Jehovah your God and him you will serve and will swear by his name.

⁸ And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

³⁰ And he made a feast for them and they ate and drank.

¹² And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God. And Aaron came and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father-in-law before God.

²⁰ So Abner came to David to Hebron and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men who were with him a feast. ²¹ And Abner said to David, I will arise and go and will gather all Israel to my lord the king that they may make a covenant with you and that you may reign over all that your soul desires. And David sent Abner away and he went in peace.

³³ And Jehovah went his way as soon as he had left off speaking with Abraham and Abraham returned to his place.

⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, Our sister, you will be the mother of thousands of ten thousands and let your seed possess the gate of those who hate them.

¹ And Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and ordered him and said to him, You will not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

²⁸ and did not allow me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now you have done foolishly.

⁴³ And Laban answered and said to Jacob, The daughters are my daughters and the sons are my sons and the flocks are my flocks and all that you see is mine. And what can I do this day to these my daughters, or to their sons whom they have borne?

⁴ And Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him and they wept.

⁵ And Jehovah put a word in Balaam's mouth and said, Return to Balak and thus you will speak.

⁸ How shall I curse, whom God has not cursed? And how shall I defy, whom Jehovah has not defied?

¹¹ And Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them altogether.

²⁵ And Balaam rose up and went and returned to his place and Balak also went his way.

⁵ Nevertheless Jehovah your God would not listen to Balaam, but Jehovah your God turned the curse into a blessing to you, because Jehovah your God loved you.

³⁶ For Jehovah will judge his people and regrets for his servants, when he sees that their power has gone and there is none remaining, shut up or left at large.

¹⁰ Surely the inward thought of man will praise you, even the residue of inward thought will observe a festival to you.

⁷ When a man's ways please Jehovah, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

⁴ Now as the barbarians saw the snake hanging from his hand, they were saying to one another, This man is certainly a murderer, whom, having been saved out of the sea, justice did not permit him to live. ⁵ Therefore indeed, he shook-off the snake into the fire and suffered no evil.
