¹ And it happened in the sixth year, in the sixth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I sat in my house and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the lord Jehovah fell there upon me.
² Then I beheld, and behold, a likeness as the appearance of fire, from the appearance of his loins and downward, fire and from his loins and upward, as the appearance of brightness, as it were glowing metal.
³ And he put forth the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head. And the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the gate of the inner court that looks toward the north, where the seat of the image of jealousy was, which provokes to jealousy.
⁴ And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the appearance that I saw in the plain.
⁵ Then he said to me, Son of man, lift up your eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up my eyes the way toward the north, and behold, northward of the gate of the altar was this image of jealousy in the entry.
⁶ And he said to me, Son of man, see what they do, even the great abominations that the house of Israel commit here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? But you will again see yet other great abominations.
⁷ And he brought me to the door of the court. And when I looked, behold, a hole in the wall. ⁸ Then he said to me, Son of man, dig now in the wall. And when I had dug in the wall, behold, a door. ⁹ And he said to me, Go in and see the wicked abominations that they do here.
¹⁰ So I went in and saw, and behold, every form of creeping things and abominable beasts and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall all around.
¹¹ And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel. And in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, each man with his censer in his hand and the odor of the cloud of incense went up. ¹² Then he said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, each man in his chambers of imagery? For they say, Jehovah does not see us. Jehovah has forsaken the land.
¹³ He also said to me, You will again see yet other great abominations which they do.
¹⁴ Then he brought me to the door of the gate of Jehovah's house which was toward the north. And behold, there sat the women weeping for Tammuz. ¹⁵ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? You will again see yet greater abominations than these.
¹⁶ And he brought me into the inner court of Jehovah's house. And behold, at the door of the temple of Jehovah, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of Jehovah and their faces toward the east and they were worshiping the sun toward the east.
¹⁷ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence and have turned again to provoke me to anger. And behold, they put the branch to their nose.
¹⁸ Therefore I will also deal in wrath. My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet I will not hear them.

² In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity, ³ the word of Jehovah came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar and the hand of Jehovah was there upon him.

¹² Then the Spirit lifted me up and I heard behind me the voice of a great rushing, saying, The glory of Jehovah from his place is blessed.

¹⁴ So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away. And I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit and the hand of Jehovah was strong upon me.

²² And the hand of Jehovah was there upon me and he said to me, Arise, go forth into the plain and I will talk with you there.

¹ Then certain of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before me.

⁴ Therefore speak to them and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet, I Jehovah will answer him in it according to the multitude of his idols,

¹ And it happened in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of Jehovah and sat before me.

¹ Again, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ And it happened in the eleventh year, in the first day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ In the tenth year, in the tenth month, in the twelfth day of the month, the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹⁷ And it happened in the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, in the first day of the month, the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ And it happened in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹⁷ It happened also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

³¹ And they come to you as the people come and they sit before you as my people. And they hear your words, but do not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.

¹ The hand of Jehovah was upon me and he brought me out in the Spirit of Jehovah and set me down in the midst of the valley and it was full of bones.

¹ In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was struck, in the same day, the hand of Jehovah was upon me and he brought me there.

⁷ For the priest's lips should keep knowledge and they should seek the law at his mouth. For he is the messenger of Jehovah of hosts.

³³ I coveted no one’s silver or gold or garment.

⁴ And I looked, and behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, a great cloud, with a fire enfolding itself and a brightness all around it and out of the midst of it, as it were glowing metal, out of the midst of the fire.

²⁶ And above the expanse that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone. And upon the likeness of the throne was a likeness as the appearance of a man upon it above.
²⁷ And I saw as it were glowing metal, as the appearance of fire within it all around, from the appearance of his loins and upward. And from the appearance of his loins and downward I saw as it were the appearance of fire. And there was brightness all around him.

⁹ I beheld till thrones were placed and one who was ancient of days sat. His garments was white as snow and the hair of his head like pure wool. His throne was fiery flames and the wheels of it burning fire. ¹⁰ A fiery stream was streaming and came out from before him. Thousands of thousands ministered to him and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The judgment was set and the books were opened.

¹⁴ Now his head and his hair were white like white wool, like snow, and his eyes were like a flame of fire; ¹⁵ and his feet similar to polished brass, like what has been refined in a furnace, and his voice like the voice of many waters.

⁵ You will not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them, because I, Jehovah your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of those who hate me,

¹⁴ for you will worship no other god. For Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

²⁴ For Jehovah your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

⁹ You will not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them, for I, Jehovah your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of those who hate me,

¹⁵ for Jehovah your God in the midst of you is a jealous God, lest the anger of Jehovah your God be kindled against you and he destroy you from the face of the earth.

¹⁶ They moved him to jealousy with strange gods. With abominations they provoked him to anger.

²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with what is not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities and I will move them to jealousy with a non-nation. I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

¹⁹ And Joshua said to the people, You* cannot serve Jehovah, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God. He will not forgive your* transgression nor your* sins.

¹² And it will happen, as soon as I have gone from you, that the Spirit of Jehovah will carry you where I do not know. And so when I come and tell Ahab and he cannot find you, he will kill me. But I your servant fear Jehovah from my youth.

¹⁶ And they said to him, Behold now, there are fifty strong men with your servants. Please let them go and seek your master, lest the Spirit of Jehovah has taken him up and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, You* will not send.

¹⁴ And the brazen altar, which was before Jehovah, he brought from the forefront of the house, from between his altar and the house of Jehovah and put it on the north side of his altar.

⁷ And he set the graven image of Asherah, that he had made, in the house of which Jehovah said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.

⁵⁸ For they provoked him to anger with their high places and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

³⁰ For the sons of Judah have done what is evil in my sight, says Jehovah. They have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

³⁴ But they set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

⁹ And when I looked, behold, a hand was put forth to me, and behold, a roll of a book was in it,

¹¹ Therefore, as I live, says the lord Jehovah, surely, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things and with all your abominations, therefore I also will diminish you, nor will my eye spare. And I also will have no pity.

²⁰ As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty, but they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things in it. Therefore I have made it as an unclean thing to them.

⁵ Then he said to me, Son of man, lift up your eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up my eyes the way toward the north, and behold, northward of the gate of the altar was this image of jealousy in the entry.

¹ Moreover the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of Jehovah's house, which looks eastward. And behold, at the door of the gate twenty-five men. And I saw in the midst of them Jaazaniah the son of Azzur and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, rulers of the people.

²⁴ And the Spirit lifted me up and brought me in the vision by the Spirit of God into Chaldea, to those of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me.

² He brought me in the visions of God into the land of Israel and set me down upon a very high mountain, upon which was as it were the frame of a city on the south.

⁵ In the same hour the fingers of a man's hand came out and wrote opposite the lamp-stand upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace. And the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

¹⁰ And behold, a hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.

¹⁸ Then someone like the appearance of a man touched me again and he strengthened me.

³⁹ Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord seized Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, for he was traveling on his way rejoicing.

²¹ You are not able to drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You are not able to partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons. ²² Or are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? We are not mightier than him, are we?

² I know a man in Christ, who fourteen years before, (whether in the body, I do not know or outside of the body, I do not know; God knows), such a one was seized up to the third heaven. ³ And I know such a man (whether in the body or outside of the body, I do not know; God knows), ⁴ that he was taken away into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not legal for man to speak.

¹⁰ I became in the spirit on the Lord’s day and I heard behind me a loud voice, like that of a trumpet ¹¹ saying, What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven congregations : to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamus and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea. ¹² And I turned there to see the voice which was speaking with me and having turned, I saw seven golden lamp-stands. ¹³ And one similar to a son of man was in the middle of the seven lamp-stands. He has clothed himself with a long-robe and the breasts are girded around with a golden belt. ¹⁴ Now his head and his hair were white like white wool, like snow, and his eyes were like a flame of fire; ¹⁵ and his feet similar to polished brass, like what has been refined in a furnace, and his voice like the voice of many waters. ¹⁶ And he has in his right hand seven stars and a sharp two edged long-sword traveled out from his mouth and his appearance was as the sun appears in its power. ¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell like one dead at his feet. And he placed his right hand upon me, saying, Do not fear; I am the first and the last, ¹⁸ and the Living One, and I became dead and behold, I am living forevermore and I have the keys of death and of Hades. Amen. ¹⁹ Therefore write the things which you saw, and the things which are, and the things which are about to happen after these things. ²⁰ The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand and the seven golden lamp-stands is this : the seven stars are the messengers of the seven congregations and the seven lamp-stands are seven congregations.

² And immediately I became in the spirit and behold, a throne was placed in heaven, and sitting upon the throne ³ was one similar in appearance to a jasper stone and a carnelian and there was a rainbow surrounding the throne, similar in appearance to an emerald. ⁴ And twenty-four thrones were surrounding the throne and twenty-four elders sitting upon the thrones, having been dressed in white garments, and upon their heads golden crowns. ⁵ And lightnings and voices and thunders traveled out from the throne. And there were seven torches of fire burning in the sight of the throne, which are the seven spirits of God; ⁶ and in the sight of his throne, like a glassy sea similar to crystal, and in the middle of the throne and in a circle of the throne, four living creatures full of eyes before and behind. ⁷ And the first living creature was similar to a lion and the second living creature was similar to a calf and the third living creature having a face like that of a man and the fourth living creature was similar to a flying eagle. ⁸ And the four living creatures, one by one, having six wings apiece, are full of eyes inside and surrounding, and they have no rest day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is coming. ⁹ And whenever the living creatures gave glory and honor and thanks to the one who is sitting upon the throne, to the one who lives forevermore, ¹⁰ the twenty-four elders will fall down in his sight who is sitting upon the throne and will be worshiping the one who lives forevermore and will put their crowns in the sight of the throne, saying, ¹¹ Worthy are you, our Lord and our God, the holy one, to receive the glory and the honor and the power because you created all things and because they are your will and they were created.

²² And there I will meet with you. And I will speak with you from above the mercy-seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give you in commandment to the sons of Israel.

³⁴ Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. ³⁵ And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of meeting, because the cloud abode thereupon and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle.

²⁶ And above the expanse that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone. And upon the likeness of the throne was a likeness as the appearance of a man upon it above.
²⁷ And I saw as it were glowing metal, as the appearance of fire within it all around, from the appearance of his loins and upward. And from the appearance of his loins and downward I saw as it were the appearance of fire. And there was brightness all around him.
²⁸ As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Jehovah. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face and I heard a voice speaking.

²² And the hand of Jehovah was there upon me and he said to me, Arise, go forth into the plain and I will talk with you there. ²³ Then I arose and went forth into the plain. And behold, the glory of Jehovah stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river Chebar and I fell on my face.

³ And the glory of the God of Israel went up from the cherub, upon which it was, to the threshold of the house and he called to the man clothed in linen who had the writer's case by his side.

¹ Then I looked, and behold, in the expanse that was over the head of the cherubim there appeared above them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.
² And he spoke to the man clothed in linen and said, Go in between the whirling wheels, even under the cherub and fill both your hands with coals of fire from between the cherubim and scatter them over the city. And he entered in my sight.
³ Now the cherubim stood on the right side of the house when the man went in and the cloud filled the inner court. ⁴ And the glory of Jehovah mounted up from the cherub, over the threshold of the house. And the house was filled with the cloud and the court was full of the brightness of Jehovah's glory.

²² Then the cherubim lifted up their wings and the wheels were beside them and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above. ²³ And the glory of Jehovah went up from the midst of the city and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city.

² And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east. And his voice was like the sound of many waters and the earth shone with his glory. ³ And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city. And the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar. And I fell upon my face.
⁴ And the glory of Jehovah came into the house by the way of the gate whose view is toward the east.

¹⁸ But we all, with our face having been unveiled, seeing the reflection of the glory of the Lord for ourselves, are being transfigured into the same image from glory into glory, just-as from the Lord, the Spirit.

⁴ in whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the illumination of the good-news of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn for them. ⁵ For we are not preaching ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord and ourselves as your bondservants because of Jesus. ⁶ Because it is God, who said, ‘Illumination shine’out of darkness, who shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

³ It is he who, being the brightness of his glory and the exact representation of his essence, and is carrying all things by his declaration of power. Having made a cleansing of our sins through himself, he sat down by the right hand of the Majesty in the high place;

² Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

² Lift up your eyes to the bare heights and see. Where have you not been lain with? By the ways you have sat for them, as an Arabian in the wilderness and you have polluted the land with your prostitutions and with your wickedness.

³ And he put forth the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head. ⁵ Then the messenger who talked with me went forth and said to me, Lift up now your eyes and see what this is that goes forth. ⁶ And I said, What is it? And he said, This is the ephah that goes forth. He said moreover, This is their appearance in all the land ⁷ (and, behold, a talant of lead was lifted up) and this is a woman sitting in the midst of the ephah. ⁸ And he said, This is Wickedness. And he cast her down into the midst of the ephah and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth of it.
⁹ Then I lifted up my eyes and looked. And behold, there came out two women and the wind was in their wings. Now they had wings like the wings of a stork and they lifted up the ephah between earth and heaven. ¹⁰ Then I said to the messenger who talked with me, Where do these carry the ephah? ¹¹ And he said to me, To build her a house in the land of Shinar. And when it is prepared, she will be set there in her own place.

¹⁶ And Jehovah said to Moses, Behold, you will sleep with your fathers. And this people will rise up and play the prostitute after the strange gods of the land where they go to be among them and will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them.
¹⁷ Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day and I will forsake them and I will hide my face from them and they will be devoured and many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us? ¹⁸ And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil which they will have worked, in that they have turned to other gods.

⁴ And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second order and the keepers of the threshold, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that were made for Baal and for the Asherah and for all the host of heaven and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron and carried the ashes of them to Bethel.
⁵ And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had given to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and to the moon and to the planets and to all the host of heaven.
⁶ And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron and burned it at the brook Kidron and beat it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves of the common people.

¹⁴ Moreover all the chiefs of the priests and the people, trespassed very greatly after all the abominations of the nations. And they polluted the house of Jehovah which he had made holy in Jerusalem.
¹⁵ And Jehovah, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling-place. ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
¹⁷ Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion upon young man or virgin, old man or hoary-headed. He gave them all into his hand.

⁶⁰ so that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,

¹⁴ I was almost in all evil in the midst of the assembly and congregation.

⁶ Moreover Jehovah said to me in the days of Josiah the king, Have you seen what backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree and there has played the prostitute.

¹⁷ Do you not see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

¹¹ For both prophet and priest are profane. Yes, in my house I have found their wickedness, says Jehovah.

⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

⁶ And he has taken away his tabernacle violently, as a garden. He has destroyed his place of assembly. Jehovah has caused solemn assembly and Sabbath to be forgotten in Zion. And in the indignation of his anger has despised the king and the priest.
⁷ The Lord has cast off his altar. He has spurned his sanctuary. He has given up the walls of her palaces into the hand of the enemy. They have made a noise in the house of Jehovah, as in the day of a solemn assembly.

²¹ And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil and they will profane it. ²² I will also turn my face from them and they will profane my secluded place. And robbers will enter into it and profane it.

³⁸ Moreover they have done this to me: They have defiled my sanctuary in the same day and have profaned my Sabbaths. ³⁹ For when they had slain their sons to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it, and behold, thus they have done in the midst of my house.

¹² And the great court all around had three courses of hewn stone and a course of cedar beams, like the inner court of the house of Jehovah and the porch of the house.

⁵ And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of Jehovah.

²² There is no darkness, nor thick gloom where the workers of wickedness may hide themselves.

¹⁵ Woe to those who hide deep their counsel from Jehovah and whose works are in the dark and who say, Who sees us? and, Who knows us?

³⁴ Also in your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent poor. You did not find them breaking in. But it is because of all these things.

²⁴ Can any man hide himself in secret places so that I will not see him? says Jehovah. Do I not fill heaven and earth? says Jehovah.

² Though they dig into Sheol, from there my hand will take them and though they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down. ³ And though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out from there. And though they are hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, from there I will command the serpent and it will bite them.

⁸ But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me. They did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

⁴ You will not make to you a graven image, nor any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

¹⁰ And all that have no fins and scales in the seas and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters and of all the living creatures that are in the waters, they are an abomination to you*, ¹¹ and they will be an abomination to you*. You* will not eat of their flesh and their carcasses you* will have in abomination. ¹² Whatever has no fins nor scales in the waters, that is an abomination to you*.

²⁹ And these are those which are unclean to you* among the creeping things that creep upon the earth: the weasel and the mouse and the great lizard after its kind, ³⁰ and the gecko and the land-crocodile and the lizard and the sand-lizard and the chameleon. ³¹ These are those which are unclean to you* among all that creep. Whoever touches them, when they are dead, will be unclean until the evening.

⁴² Whatever goes upon the belly and whatever goes upon all fours, or whatever has many feet, even all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them you* will not eat, for they are an abomination. ⁴³ You* will not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creeps, nor will you* make yourselves unclean with them, that you* should be defiled by it.
⁴⁴ For I am Jehovah your* God. Sanctify yourselves therefore and become you* holy, since I am holy. Neither will you* defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that moves upon the earth.

¹⁸ the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth.

³ You will not eat any abominable thing.

⁷ Nevertheless of those that chew the cud, or of those that have the hoof cloven, these you* will not eat: the camel and the hare and the coney, because they chew the cud but do not part the hoof, they are unclean to you*, ⁸ and the swine, because he parts the hoof but does not chew the cud, he is unclean to you*. Of their flesh you* will not eat and their carcasses you* will not touch.

⁶ Among the smooth stones of the valley is your portion. They, they are your lot, even to them you have poured a drink offering; you have offered an oblation. Shall I be appeased for these things?
⁷ Upon a high and lofty mountain you have set your bed. You also went up there to offer sacrifice. ⁸ And behind the doors and the posts you have set up your memorial. For you have uncovered yourself to another than me and have gone up. You have enlarged your bed and made you a covenant with them. You loved their bed where you saw it.
⁹ And you went to the king with oil and increased your perfumes and sent your ambassadors far off and debased yourself even to Sheol. ¹⁰ You were wearied with the length of your way, yet you did not say, It is in vain. You found a quickening of your strength, therefore you were not faint.

²⁶ As the thief is shamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel shamed, they, their kings, their rulers and their priests and their prophets, ²⁷ who say to a block of wood, You are my father and to a stone, You have brought me forth. For they have turned their back to me and not their face.
But in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise and save us.

⁹ And it happened through the lightness of her prostitution, that the land was polluted and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

¹⁸ And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.

²³ and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and of four footed mammals and of reptiles.

¹ And he said to Moses, Come up to Jehovah, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel and worship you* afar off.

⁹ Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel went up.

¹⁶ And Jehovah said to Moses, Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them. And bring them to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you.

²⁵ And Jehovah came down in the cloud and spoke to him and took of the spirit that was upon him and put it upon the seventy elders. And it happened, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.

¹⁷ And take you* every man his censer and put incense upon them and bring you* before Jehovah every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers, you also and Aaron, each his censer.

³⁵ And fire came out from Jehovah and devoured the two hundred and fifty men who offered the incense.

³ And it happened, in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Jehovah, saying,

⁸ And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan and he read it.

¹² And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest and Ahikam the son of Shaphan and Achbor the son of Micaiah and Shaphan the scribe and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,

¹⁴ So Hilkiah the priest and Ahikam and Achbor and Shaphan and Asaiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter) and they spoke with her.

²² And as for the people who were left in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, governor over them.

¹⁶ But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly and he trespassed against Jehovah his God. For he went into the temple of Jehovah to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

¹⁹ Then Uzziah was angry. And he had a censer in his hand to burn incense. And while he was angry with the priests, the leprosy broke forth in his forehead before the priests in the house of Jehovah, beside the altar of incense.

²⁰ And the king commanded Hilkiah and Ahikam the son of Shaphan and Abdon the son of Micah and Shaphan the scribe and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,

⁵ I will go to the great men and will speak to them, for they know the way of Jehovah and the law of their God. But these with one accord have broken the yoke and burst the bonds.

⁹ Will you* steal, murder and commit adultery and swear falsely and burn incense to Baal and walk after other gods that you* have not known,

¹ Thus said Jehovah: Go and buy a potter's earthenware and take of the elders of the people and of the elders of the priests,

²⁴ But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

³ by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), saying,

¹⁰ Then Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Jehovah's house, in the ears of all the people.

⁸ O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, to our rulers and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you.

¹² Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And you say, What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?

¹³ These are of those who rebel against the light. They do not know the ways of it, nor abide in the paths of it. ¹⁴ The murderer rises with the light. He kills the poor and needy. And in the night he is as a thief. ¹⁵ The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye will see me. And he disguises his face.
¹⁶ In the dark they dig through houses. They shut themselves up in the daytime. They do not know the light. ¹⁷ For the morning is to all of them as thick darkness. For they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

¹¹ He says in his heart, God has forgotten. He hides his face. He will never see it.

¹¹ And they say, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?

⁷ And they say, Jehovah will not see, nor will the God of Jacob consider.
⁸ Consider, you* the stupid among the people and you* fools, when will you* be wise? ⁹ He who planted the ear, will he not hear? He who formed the eye, will he not see?
¹⁰ He who disciplines the nations, will he not correct, even he who teaches man knowledge?

⁶ And he said to me, Son of man, see what they do, even the great abominations that the house of Israel commit here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? But you will again see yet other great abominations.
⁷ And he brought me to the door of the court. And when I looked, behold, a hole in the wall. ⁸ Then he said to me, Son of man, dig now in the wall. And when I had dug in the wall, behold, a door.

¹¹ And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel. And in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, each man with his censer in his hand and the odor of the cloud of incense went up.

¹⁵ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? You will again see yet greater abominations than these.

¹⁷ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence and have turned again to provoke me to anger. And behold, they put the branch to their nose.

⁹ Then he said to me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great and the land is full of blood and the city full of perverseness. For they say, Jehovah has forsaken the land and Jehovah does not see.

¹⁹ Now this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil. ²⁰ For everyone who is practicing evil, hates the light, and is not coming to the light, in order that his works should not convict him.

¹² for it is shameful even to speak of the things happening by them covertly.

³ And they bend their tongue–their bow–for falsehood and they have grown strong in the land, but not for truth. For they proceed from evil to evil and they do not know me, says Jehovah.

⁶ And he said to me, Son of man, see what they do, even the great abominations that the house of Israel commit here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? But you will again see yet other great abominations.

¹³ But evil men and impostors will be progressing from bad on to worse, misleading and being misled.

⁴ Then he brought me by the way of the north gate before the house. And I looked, and behold, the glory of Jehovah filled the house of Jehovah. And I fell upon my face.

⁹ But when the people of the land will come before Jehovah in the appointed feasts, he who enters by the way of the north gate to worship will go forth by the way of the south gate and he who enters by the way of the south gate will go forth by the way of the north gate. He will not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but will go forth straight before him.

¹² Then he said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, each man in his chambers of imagery? For they say, Jehovah does not see us. Jehovah has forsaken the land.
¹³ He also said to me, You will again see yet other great abominations which they do.

¹⁹ And lest you lift up your eyes to heaven and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, you are drawn away and worship them and serve them, which Jehovah your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.

³ and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded,

²⁹ that your eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place whereof you have said, My name will be there, to listen to the prayer which your servant will pray toward this place.

⁵ And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had given to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and to the moon and to the planets and to all the host of heaven.

¹¹ And he took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of Jehovah, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the official, which was in the suburbs. And he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

⁷ Moreover Solomon made the middle of the court holy that was before the house of Jehovah. For there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brazen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offering and the meal offering and the fat.

⁶ For our fathers have trespassed and done what was evil in the sight of Jehovah our God and have forsaken him and have turned away their faces from the habitation of Jehovah and turned their backs.

²⁶ if I have beheld the sun when it shone, or the moon walking in brightness, ²⁷ and my heart has been secretly enticed and my mouth has kissed my hand ²⁸ (this also is an iniquity to be punished by the judges, for I would have denied the God that is above);

²⁷ who say to a block of wood, You are my father and to a stone, You have brought me forth. For they have turned their back to me and not their face.
But in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise and save us.

³³ And they have turned the back to me and not the face. And though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.

¹⁷ But we will certainly perform every word that has gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our rulers, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food and were well and saw no evil.

³ Now the cherubim stood on the right side of the house when the man went in and the cloud filled the inner court.

³⁵ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, therefore you also bear your lewdness and your prostitutions.

²⁸ Then he brought me to the inner court by the south gate. And he measured the south gate according to these measures,

⁵ And the Spirit took me up and brought me into the inner court, and behold, the glory of Jehovah filled the house.

¹⁹ And the priest will take of the blood of the sin offering and put it upon the door-posts of the house and upon the four corners of the ledge of the altar and upon the posts of the gate of the inner court.

¹⁷ Let the priests, the ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar and let them say, Spare your people, O Jehovah and do not give your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?

⁴² But God turned and gave them up to give-divine service to the army of heaven; just-as it has been written in the book of the prophets, ‘You did not offer slaughtered beasts and sacrifices to me for forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel, did you? ⁴³ And you took up the tabernacle of Moloch and the star of the god Remphan, the patterns which you made to worship and I will be exiling you past Babylon.’

¹³ And God said to Noah, The end of all flesh has come before me, because the earth is filled with violence through them and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

¹⁶ Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides his sin with which he made Judah to sin in doing what was evil in the sight of Jehovah.

⁴ and also for the innocent blood that he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood and Jehovah would not pardon.

⁷ As a well casts forth its waters, so she casts forth her wickedness. Violence and destruction is heard in her. Continually before me is sickness and wounds.

¹⁸ The sons gather wood and the fathers kindle the fire and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
¹⁹ Do they provoke me to anger? says Jehovah and not themselves, to the confusion of their own faces?

⁴ Because they have forsaken me and have estranged this place and have burned incense in it to other gods that they did not know, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,

⁸ For as often as I speak, I cry out. I cry, Violence and destruction! Because the word of Jehovah is made a reproach to me and a ridicule, all the day.

¹¹ Violence has risen up into a rod of wickedness. None of them will remain, nor of their multitude, nor of their wealth. Neither will there be distinction among them.

²³ Make the chain, for the land is full of bloody crimes and the city is full of violence.

⁶ You* have multiplied your* slain in this city and you* have filled the streets of it with the slain.

²⁶ You have also committed fornication with the Egyptians, your neighbors, great of flesh and have multiplied your prostitution, to provoke me to anger.

¹⁰ For they do not know to do right, says Jehovah, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

³ You* who put far away the evil day and cause the seat of violence to come near,

² And they desire fields and seize them and houses and take them away. And they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

¹² For the rich men of it are full of violence and the inhabitants of it have spoken lies and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

⁹ And in that day I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their master's house with violence and deceit.

¹³ Yet you* have forsaken me and served other gods. Therefore I will save you* no more. ¹⁴ Go and cry to the gods which you* have chosen. Let them save you* in the time of your* distress.

²⁸ Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me,

¹⁵ And when you* spread forth your* hands, I will hide my eyes from you*. Yes, when you* make many prayers, I will not hear; your* hands are full of blood.

² But your* iniquities have separated between you* and your* God and your* sins have hid his face from you* so that he will not hear.

¹¹ Therefore Jehovah says thus, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they will not be able to escape. And they will cry to me, but I will not listen to them.

¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry. And when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence.

¹¹ Therefore, as I live, says the lord Jehovah, surely, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things and with all your abominations, therefore I also will diminish you, nor will my eye spare. And I also will have no pity.
¹² A third part of you will die with the pestilence and they will be consumed with famine in the midst of you and a third part will fall by the sword all around you and a third part I will scatter to all the winds and will draw out a sword after them.
¹³ Thus my anger will be accomplished and I will cause my wrath toward them to rest and I will be comforted. And they will know that I, Jehovah, have spoken in my zeal, when I have accomplished my wrath upon them.

⁴ And my eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity. But I will bring your ways upon you and your abominations will be in the midst of you.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.
⁵ The lord Jehovah says thus: An evil, an only evil, behold, it comes. ⁶ An end has come. The end has come. It awakens against you. Behold, it comes. ⁷ Your doom has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. The time has come. The day is near, tumult and not joyful shouting, upon the mountains.
⁸ Now I will shortly pour out my wrath upon you and accomplish my anger against you and will judge you according to your ways. And I will bring upon you all your abominations. ⁹ And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will bring upon you according to your ways. And your abominations will be in the midst of you.
And you* will know that I, Jehovah, do kill*.

⁵ And to the others he said in my hearing, Go through the city after him and kill*. Do not let your* eye spare, nor have you* pity.

¹⁰ And as for me also, my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity, but I will bring their way upon their head.

⁴² So I will cause my wrath toward you to rest and my jealousy will depart from you and I will be quiet and will no more be angry.

¹³ In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you and you were not cleansed, you will not be cleansed from your filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.

⁴ Then they will cry to Jehovah, but he will not answer them. Yes, he will hide his face from them at that time, just-as they have worked evil in their practices.

² Jehovah is a jealous God and avenges. Jehovah avenges and is full of wrath. Jehovah takes vengeance on his adversaries and he reserves wrath for his enemies.

¹³ And it has happen that, as he cried and they would not hear, so they will cry and I will not hear, said Jehovah of hosts.

²⁵ From whenever time the householder arose and locked the door and you, being outside, may begin to stand and to knock on the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
And when he has answered the knock, he will say to you, I do not know you or where you are from.
