¹ And it happened in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of Jehovah and sat before me. ² And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ³ Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Is it to inquire of me that you* have come? As I live, says the lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you*.
⁴ Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers, ⁵ and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: In the day when I chose Israel and swore to the seed of the house of Jacob and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I swore to them, saying, I am Jehovah your* God, ⁶ I swore to them in that day, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.
⁷ And I said to them, Cast away every man the abominations of his eyes and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am Jehovah your* God. ⁸ But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me. They did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. ⁹ But I worked for my name's sake (that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them) in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
¹⁰ So I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness. ¹¹ And I gave them my statutes and showed them my ordinances, which if a man does, he will live in them.
¹² Moreover I also gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Jehovah who sanctifies them.
¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he will live in them. And they greatly profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them. ¹⁴ But I worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.
¹⁵ Moreover also I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands, ¹⁶ because they rejected my ordinances and did not walk in my statutes and profaned my Sabbaths, for their heart went after their idols. ¹⁷ Nevertheless my eye spared them and I did not destroy them, nor did I make a full end of them in the wilderness.
¹⁸ And I said to their sons in the wilderness, Walk you* not in the statutes of your* fathers. Neither observe their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols. ¹⁹ I am Jehovah your* God. Walk in my statutes and keep my ordinances and do them, ²⁰ and sanctify my Sabbaths and they will be a sign between me and you*, that you* may know that I am Jehovah your* God.
²¹ But the sons rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes, nor kept my ordinances to do them, which if a man does, he will live in them. They profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness. ²² Nevertheless I withdrew my hand and worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them forth.
²³ Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the countries, ²⁴ because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes and had profaned my Sabbaths and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.
²⁵ Moreover I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances in which they will not live. ²⁶ And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that opens the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am Jehovah.
²⁷ Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: In this moreover your* fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.
²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land, which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill and every thick tree and they offered there their sacrifices and there they presented the provocation of their offering. There also they made their sweet aroma and they poured out there their drink offerings. ²⁹ Then I said to them, What does the high place to which you* go mean? So the name of it is called Bamah to this day.
³⁰ Therefore say to the house of Israel, The lord Jehovah says thus: Do you* pollute yourselves according to the manner of your* fathers and play you* the prostitute according to their abominations? ³¹ And when you* offer your* gifts, when you* make your* sons to pass through the fire, do you* pollute yourselves with all your* idols to this day? And shall I be inquired of by you*, O house of Israel? As I live, says the lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you*.
³² And what comes into your* mind will not be at all, in that you* say, We will be as the nations, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone. ³³ As I live, says the lord Jehovah, surely with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out, I will be king over you*.
³⁴ And I will bring you* out from the peoples and will gather you* out of the countries in which you* are scattered, with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out, ³⁵ and I will bring you* into the wilderness of the peoples. And there I will enter into judgment with you* face to face.
³⁶ Just as I entered into judgment with your* fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you*, says the lord Jehovah. ³⁷ And I will cause you* to pass under the rod. And I will bring you* into the bond of the covenant.
³⁸ And I will purge out from among you* the rebels and those who transgress against me. I will bring them forth out of the land where they journey, but they will not enter into the land of Israel.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.
³⁹ As for you*, O house of Israel, thus says the lord Jehovah: Go you*. Serve each one his idols and hereafter also, if you* will not listen to me. But you* will no more profane my holy name with your* gifts and with your* idols.
⁴⁰ For in my holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, says the lord Jehovah, there will all the house of Israel, all of them, serve me in the land. There I will accept them and there I will require your* offerings and the first-fruits of your* oblations, with all your* holy things.
⁴¹ I will accept you* as a sweet aroma when I bring you* out from the peoples and gather you* out of the countries in which you* have been scattered. And I will be made holy in you* in the sight of the nations. ⁴² And you* will know that I am Jehovah when I will bring you* into the land of Israel, into the country which I swore to give to your* fathers.
⁴³ And there you* will remember your* ways and all your* practices, by which you* have polluted yourselves. And you* will loathe yourselves in your* own sight for all your* evils that you* have committed.
⁴⁴ And you* will know that I am Jehovah when I have dealt with you* for my name's sake, not according to your* evil ways, nor according to your* corrupt practices, O you* house of Israel, says the lord Jehovah.
⁴⁵ And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ⁴⁶ Son of man, set your face toward the south and drop your word toward the south and prophesy against the forest of the field in the South. ⁴⁷ And say to the forest of the South, Hear the word of Jehovah. The lord Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will kindle a fire in you and it will devour every green tree in you and every dry tree. The flaming flame will not be quenched and all faces from the south to the north will be burnt by it. ⁴⁸ And all flesh will see that I, Jehovah, have kindled it. It will not be quenched.
⁴⁹ Then I said, Ah lord Jehovah! They say of me, Is he not a speaker of parables?

² And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I beseech you and disguise yourself that you not be known to be the wife of Jeroboam and get you to Shiloh. Behold, there is Ahijah the prophet who spoke concerning me that I should be king over this people. ³ And take with you ten loaves and cakes and an earthenware of honey and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the child. ⁴ And Jeroboam's wife did so and arose and went to Shiloh and came to the house of Ahijah.
Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were set because of his age. ⁵ And Jehovah said to Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam comes to inquire of you concerning her son, for he is sick. Thus and thus you will say to her, for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman.
⁶ And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, you wife of Jeroboam. Why pretend to be another? For I am sent to you with heavy news.

¹⁵ And when he came to the king, the king said to him, Micaiah, will we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or will we forbear? And he answered him, Go up and prosper and Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king. ¹⁶ And the king said to him, How many times shall I make you swear that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of Jehovah?
¹⁷ And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And Jehovah said, These have no master, let them return every man to his house in peace. ¹⁸ And the King of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?
¹⁹ And Micaiah said, Therefore hear the word of Jehovah. I saw Jehovah sitting on his throne and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. ²⁰ And Jehovah said, Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner and another said on that manner.
²¹ And there came out a spirit and stood before Jehovah and said, I will entice him. ²² And Jehovah said to him, With what? And he said, I will go forth and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You will entice him and will also prevail. Go forth and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets and Jehovah has spoken evil concerning you.
²⁴ Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and killed* Micaiah on the cheek and said, Which way did the Spirit of Jehovah go from me to speak to you? ²⁵ And Micaiah said, Behold, you will see on that day when you will go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.
²⁶ And the King of Israel said, Take Micaiah and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king's son, ²⁷ and say, Thus says the king, Put this fellow in the prison and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction until I come in peace. ²⁸ And Micaiah said, If you return at all in peace, Jehovah has not spoken by me. And he said, Hear, you* peoples, all of you*.

¹³ And Elisha said to the King of Israel, What have I to do with you? You get to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother. And the King of Israel said to him, No, for Jehovah has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

¹³ And the Lord said, Inasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but have removed their heart far from me, but in vain they worship me, teaching the commandments and doctrines of men.

² Yet they seek me daily and delight to know my ways. As a nation that did righteousness and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near to God.

¹⁷ then Zedekiah the king sent and fetched him. And the king asked him secretly in his house and said, Is there any word from Jehovah? And Jeremiah said, There is. He also said, You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

² In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity,

¹ And it happened in the sixth year, in the sixth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I sat in my house and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the lord Jehovah fell there upon me.

¹ Then certain of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before me. ² And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ³ Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face. Should I be inquired of at all by them?

¹ Again, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ And it happened in the eleventh year, in the first day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ In the tenth year, in the tenth month, in the twelfth day of the month, the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹⁷ And it happened in the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, in the first day of the month, the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

²⁰ And it happened in the eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ And it happened in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ And it happened in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, in the first day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

³⁰ And as for you, son of man, the sons of your people talk of you by the walls and in the doors of the houses and speak one to another, each one to his brother, saying, Come, I beseech you* and hear what is the word that comes forth from Jehovah.
³¹ And they come to you as the people come and they sit before you as my people. And they hear your words, but do not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.
³² And behold, you are to them as a very lovely song of he who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument. For they hear your words, but they do not do them.
³³ And when this occurs, (behold, it comes), then they will know that a prophet has been among them.

¹ In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was struck, in the same day, the hand of Jehovah was upon me and he brought me there.

¹⁶ And they send their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God in truth, and do not care concerning anyone’s appearance; for you do not look at the countenance of men.

⁴⁶ And it happened, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them and asking them questions.

³⁵ Now they went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man, from whom the demons had gone out, sitting, having on garments and being sensible, beside the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid.

³⁹ And she was a sister to one called Mary, who also sat beside the feet of Jesus and was hearing his word.

³ I Indeed am a Jew, and having been born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but having been reared in this city beside the feet of Gamaliel, having been educated according to the exactness of the Law of our forefathers, being a zealous one of God, just-as you all are today;

⁶ And when Saul inquired of Jehovah, Jehovah answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you will glorify me.
¹⁶ But to the wicked man God says, What have you to do to declare my statutes and that you have taken my covenant in your mouth, ¹⁷ since you hate instruction and cast my words behind you?
¹⁸ When you saw a thief, you consented with him and have been partaker with adulterers. ¹⁹ You give your mouth to evil and your tongue frames deceit. ²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.
²¹ These things you have done and I kept silence. You thought that I was altogether such a one as yourself. But I will reprove you and set them in order before your eyes.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination. Much more when he brings it with a wicked mind!

⁹ He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

¹² When you* come to appear before me, who has required this at your* hand–to trample my courts?

¹⁵ And when you* spread forth your* hands, I will hide my eyes from you*. Yes, when you* make many prayers, I will not hear; your* hands are full of blood.

³ Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face. Should I be inquired of at all by them?
⁴ Therefore speak to them and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet, I Jehovah will answer him in it according to the multitude of his idols,

⁷ For everyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who journey in Israel, that separates himself from me and takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of me, I Jehovah will answer him by myself. ⁸ And I will set my face against that man and will make him an astonishment, for a sign and a proverb. And I will cut him off from the midst of my people.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.

³¹ And when you* offer your* gifts, when you* make your* sons to pass through the fire, do you* pollute yourselves with all your* idols to this day? And shall I be inquired of by you*, O house of Israel? As I live, says the lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you*.

⁷ And the seers will be put to shame and diviners confounded. Yes, they will all cover their lips, for there is no answer from God.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his immersion, he said to them, Offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the future wrath?

⁸ ‘These people are drawing near to me with their mouth, and are honoring me with their lips, but their heart is faraway from me. ⁹ But they are worshiping me in futility, teaching as their teachings–the commandments of men.’

⁷ Therefore, he was saying to the crowds who traveled out to be immersed by him, Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the future wrath?

²⁴ God is a Spirit, and it is essential for those who are worshiping him to worship in spirit and truth.

³ And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I beseech you*, between me and my vineyard.

¹⁶ Therefore pray you not for this people, nor lift up cry nor prayer for them. Neither make intercession to me, for I will not hear you.

¹⁴ Therefore do not pray you for this people, nor lift up cry nor prayer for them, for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me on behalf of their trouble.

¹¹ And Jehovah said to me, Pray not for this people for good. ¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry. And when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence.
¹³ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Behold, the prophets say to them, You* will not see the sword, nor will you* have famine, but I will give you* assured peace in this place.
¹⁴ Then Jehovah said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I did not send them, nor have I commanded them, nor did I speak to them. They prophesy to you* a lying vision and divination and a thing of nothing and the deceit of their own heart.

¹ Then Jehovah said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people. Cast them out of my sight and let them go forth.

¹⁴ though these three men, Noah, Daniel and Job, were in it, they would deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, says the lord Jehovah.

²⁰ though Noah, Daniel and Job, were in it, as I live, says the lord Jehovah, they would deliver neither son nor daughter, they would but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

² Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, ³ and say, The lord Jehovah says thus to Jerusalem: Your birth and your nativity is from the land of the Canaanite. The Amorite was your father and your mother was a Hittite.

² And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Then cause her to know all her abominations.

³⁶ Jehovah said moreover to me, Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then declare to them their abominations.

⁴⁵ And righteous men, they will judge them with the judgment of adulteresses and with the judgment of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses and blood is on their hands.

²⁹ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the burial chambers of the prophets and adorn the tombs of the righteous, ³⁰ and say, If we were in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in the blood of the prophets. ³¹ So-then you are testifying to yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. ³² And you, fill up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Serpents, offspring of vipers! How may you flee from the judgment of hell? ³⁴ Because of this, behold, I am sending to you prophets and wise men and scribes, and out of them you will be killing and will be crucifying, and some of them you will be scourging in your synagogues and will be persecuting from city to city, ³⁵ so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly I am saying to you, All these things will be coming upon this generation.
³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How-often I willed to have gathered together your children in the manner a bird gathers together her brood under her wings, and you did not will it!

⁴⁷ Woe to you! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Consequently, you are testifying and consenting to the works of your fathers, because they indeed killed them, and you build their tombs. ⁴⁹ Because of this, the wisdom of God also said, I will be sending prophets and apostles to them, and some out of them they will be killing and will be banishing; ⁵⁰ in order that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the conception of the world, may be sought from this generation; ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel Yes, I say to you, It will be sought from this generation.

³³ However it is essential for me to travel on today and the next-day and in the next day, because it is not acceptable for a prophet to perish outside of Jerusalem.


³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How-often I wished to have gathered together your children in the manner a bird gathers together her own brood under her wings, and you did not wish for it! ³⁵ Behold, your house is left to you desolate and I say to you, that you may never see me, until the time will come whenever you say, He who is coming in the name of the Lord has been blessed.

⁵¹ You are stiff-necked and non-circumcised in heart and ears. You are habitually defying the Holy Spirit, like your fathers, like you also! ⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who proclaimed beforehand God’s message concerning the coming of the Righteous One; of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.

² Or do you not know that the holy-ones will be judging the world? And if the world is judged among you, are you unworthy of the least of courts?

²² And Abram said to the King of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,

⁶ Moreover he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look upon God.

⁸ And I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

¹⁶ Go and gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, I have surely visited you* and seen what is done to you* in Egypt.

³¹ And the people believed. And when they heard that Jehovah had visited the sons of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

² And God spoke to Moses and said to him, I am Jehovah.

⁶ Therefore say to the sons of Israel, I am Jehovah. And I will bring you* out from under the burdens of the Egyptians and I will rid you* out of their bondage and I will redeem you* with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.
⁷ And I will take you* to me for a people and I will be to you* a God and you* will know that I am Jehovah your* God, who brings you* out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

⁴ You* have seen what I did to the Egyptians and how I bore you* on eagles' wings and brought you* to myself.
⁵ Now therefore, if you* will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you* will be my own possession from among all peoples, for all the earth is mine, ⁶ and you* will be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you will speak to the sons of Israel.

² I am Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ³ You will have no other gods before me.

³⁴ Or has God ever tried to go and take for him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs and by wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm and by great terrors, according to all that Jehovah your* God did for you* in Egypt before your* eyes?

³⁷ And because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt,

⁶ For you are a holy people to Jehovah your God. Jehovah your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

² And you* know this day, for it is not with your* sons who have not known and who have not seen the chastisement of Jehovah your* God, his greatness, his mighty hand and his outstretched arm, ³ and his signs and his works, which he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the King of Egypt and to all his land, ⁴ and what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses and to their chariots, how he made the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as they pursued after you* and how Jehovah has destroyed them to this day, ⁵ and what he did to you* in the wilderness, until you* came to this place, ⁶ and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben, how the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up and their households and their tents and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Israel, ⁷ but your* eyes have seen all the great work of Jehovah which he did.

² For you are a holy people to Jehovah your God and Jehovah has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

⁴⁰ For I lift up my hand to heaven and say, As I live everlasting,

¹² The nation whose God is Jehovah is fortunate, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

⁷ He made known his ways to Moses, his practices to the sons of Israel.

⁸ But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend, ⁹ you whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth and called from the corners of it and said to you, You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you away.

¹⁰ You* are my witnesses, says Jehovah and my servant whom I have chosen, that you* may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me there was no God formed, nor will there be after me.

¹ Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant and Israel, whom I have chosen. ² Jehovah says thus who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you: Do not fear, O Jacob my servant and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

²⁴ Do you not consider what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which Jehovah chose, he has cast them off? Thus they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.

¹⁵ Moreover also I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands,

²³ Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the countries,

¹¹ therefore, as I live, says the lord Jehovah, I will do according to your anger and according to your envy which you have shown out of your hatred against them. And I will make myself known among them when I will judge you.

¹⁴ And you* will inherit it, one as well as another, for I swore to give it to your* fathers. And this land will fall to you* for inheritance.

²⁰ And except that the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved, but because of the chosen, whom he chose, he shortened the days.

⁵ And the messenger whom I saw standing upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his right hand to the heaven,

¹³ And God said to Abram, Know of a certainty that your seed will be travelers in a land that is not theirs. And your seed will serve them and they will afflict them for four hundred years. ¹⁴ And I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve and afterward they will come out with great substance.

¹⁷ And I have said, I will bring you* up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁵ And it will be, when Jehovah will bring you into the land of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you will keep this service in this month.

¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ² Speak to the sons of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon. You* will encamp opposite it by the sea.
³ And Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, They are entangled in the land; the wilderness has shut them in. ⁴ And I will harden Pharaoh's heart and he will follow after them and I will get for me honor upon Pharaoh and upon all his army and the Egyptians will know that I am Jehovah. And they did so.
⁵ And it was told the King of Egypt that the people were fled. And the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people and they said, What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us? ⁶ And he made ready his chariot and took his people with him. ⁷ And he took six hundred chosen chariots and all the chariots of Egypt and captains over all of them.
⁸ And Jehovah hardened the heart of Pharaoh King of Egypt and he pursued after the sons of Israel, and the sons of Israel went out with a high hand. ⁹ And the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh and his horsemen and his army and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.
¹⁰ And when Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them and they were very afraid. And the sons of Israel cried out to Jehovah.
¹¹ And they said to Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt? ¹² Is not this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
¹³ And Moses said to the people, Do not fear. Stand still and see the salvation of Jehovah, which he will work for you* today, because the Egyptians whom you* have seen today, you* will see them again everlasting. ¹⁴ Jehovah will fight for you* and you* will keep silent.
¹⁵ And Jehovah said to Moses, Why do you cry to me? Speak to the sons of Israel, that they go forward.

³ to a land flowing with milk and honey. Because I will not go up in the midst of you, because you are a stubborn people, lest I consume you on the way.

²⁴ But I have said to you*, You* will inherit their land and I will give it to you* to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey. I am Jehovah your* God, who has separated you* from the peoples.

²⁷ And they told him and said, We came to the land where you sent us. And surely it flows with milk and honey and this is the fruit of it.

⁸ If Jehovah delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey.

³ Hear therefore, O Israel and observe to do it, that it may be well with you and that you* may increase mightily, as Jehovah, the God of your fathers, has promised to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁷ For Jehovah your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; ⁸ a land of wheat and barley and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, ⁹ a land in which you will eat bread without scarceness. You will not lack anything in it, a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you may dig copper.

⁹ and that you* may prolong your* days in the land, which Jehovah swore to your* fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.

¹¹ but the land, where you* go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinks water from the rain of heaven, ¹² a land which Jehovah your God cares for. The eyes of Jehovah your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

⁹ And he has brought us into this place and has given us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

¹⁵ Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven and bless your people Israel and the ground which you have given us, as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.

³ And you will write upon them all the words of this law when you have passed over, that you may go in to the land which Jehovah your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Jehovah, the God of your fathers, has promised you.

²⁰ For when I will have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers, flowing with milk and honey and they will have eaten and filled themselves and grown fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them and despise me and break my covenant.

⁸ When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of men, he set the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.

¹³ He made him ride on the high places of the earth and he ate the increase of the field and he made him to suck honey out of the rock and oil out of the flinty rock, ¹⁴ butter of the herd and milk of the flock, with fat of lambs and rams of the breed of Bashan and goats, with the finest of the wheat and of the blood of the grape you drank wine.

⁶ For the sons of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness till all the nation, even the men of war who came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they did not listen to the voice of Jehovah, to whom Jehovah swore that he would not let them see the land which Jehovah swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

² Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

⁵ that I may establish the oath which I swore to your* fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then I answered and said, Truly, O Jehovah.

²² and gave them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁵ and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: In the day when I chose Israel and swore to the seed of the house of Jacob and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I swore to them, saying, I am Jehovah your* God,

⁴² And you* will know that I am Jehovah when I will bring you* into the land of Israel, into the country which I swore to give to your* fathers.

⁹ And out of one of them came out a little horn, which grew exceedingly great, toward the south and toward the east and toward the glorious land.

¹⁶ But he who comes against him will do according to his own will and none will stand before him. And he will stand in the glorious land and in his hand will be destruction.

⁴¹ He will also enter into the glorious land and many countries will be overthrown. But these will be delivered out of his hand: Edom and Moab and the chief of the sons of Ammon.

¹⁴ But I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned. For they laid the desirable land desolate.

¹² I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel. Speak to them, saying, At evening you* will eat flesh and in the morning you* will be filled with bread. And you* will know that I am Jehovah your* God.

² I am Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

⁴ You will not make to you a graven image, nor any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

⁴⁴ For I am Jehovah your* God. Sanctify yourselves therefore and become you* holy, since I am holy. Neither will you* defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that moves upon the earth.

⁷ And they will no more sacrifice their sacrifices to the male-goats, after which they play the prostitute. This will be an everlasting statute to them throughout their genealogy.

³ You* will not do after the practices of the land of Egypt, in which you* dwelt and you* will not do after the practices of the land of Canaan, where I bring you*, nor will you* walk in their statutes.

⁷ Sanctify yourselves therefore and become you* holy, for I am Jehovah your* God.

¹⁶ (for you* know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you* passed, ¹⁷ and you* have seen their abominations and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them).
¹⁸ Lest there should be among you* man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from Jehovah our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations. Lest there should be among you* a root that bears gall and wormwood,

¹⁴ Now therefore fear Jehovah and serve him in sincerity and in truth. And put away the gods which your* fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt and serve you* Jehovah.

⁸ And when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill-country of Ephraim. And he renewed the altar of Jehovah, that was before the porch of Jehovah.

²⁰ Men will cast away their idols of silver and their idols of gold in that day, which have been made for them to worship, to the moles and to the bats, ²¹ to go into the caverns of the rocks and into the clefts of the ragged rocks, from before the terror of Jehovah and from the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake the earth mightily.

⁷ For in that day they will cast away every man his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your* own hands have made to you* for a sin.

⁹ And they will loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.

⁶ Therefore say to the house of Israel, The lord Jehovah says thus: Return and turn yourselves from your* idols and turn away your* faces from all your* abominations.

⁶ and has not eaten upon the mountains, nor has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, nor has defiled his neighbor's wife, nor has come near to a woman in her impurity,

¹⁵ who has not eaten upon the mountains, nor has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, has not defiled his neighbor's wife,

³¹ Cast away from you* all your* transgressions, by which you* have transgressed and make you* a new heart and a new spirit. For why will you* die, O house of Israel?

⁸ But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me. They did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ I am Jehovah your* God. Walk in my statutes and keep my ordinances and do them,

³ And they played the prostitute in Egypt. They played the prostitute in their youth. There their breasts were pressed and there was handled the bosom of their virginity.

⁸ Neither has she left her prostitutions since Egypt. For in her youth they lie with her and they handled the bosom of her virginity and they poured out their prostitution upon her.

⁴ And he received it at their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made it a molten calf. And they said, These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt. ⁵ And when Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made proclamation and said, Tomorrow will be a feast to Jehovah.
⁶ And they rose up early on the morrow and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and to drink and rose up to revel.

⁷ Remember, do not you forget how you provoked Jehovah your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you* came to this place, you* have been rebellious against Jehovah.

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets who testified against them to turn them again to you and they worked great provocations.

¹⁰ But they rebelled and grieved his holy Spirit. Therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.

¹³ Thus my anger will be accomplished and I will cause my wrath toward them to rest and I will be comforted. And they will know that I, Jehovah, have spoken in my zeal, when I have accomplished my wrath upon them.

⁸ Now I will shortly pour out my wrath upon you and accomplish my anger against you and will judge you according to your ways. And I will bring upon you all your abominations.

⁷ And I said to them, Cast away every man the abominations of his eyes and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am Jehovah your* God.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he will live in them. And they greatly profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

²¹ But the sons rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes, nor kept my ordinances to do them, which if a man does, he will live in them. They profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

¹² Why should the Egyptians speak, saying, He brought them forth for evil, to kill them on the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from your fierce wrath and relent of this evil against your people.

¹³ And Moses said to Jehovah, Then the Egyptians will hear it, for you brought up this people in your might from among them, ¹⁴ and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you Jehovah are in the midst of this people, for you Jehovah are seen face to face and your cloud stands over them and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night. ¹⁵ Now if you will kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying, ¹⁶ Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.
¹⁷ And now, I beseech you, let the power of the Lord be great, just-as you have spoken, saying, ¹⁸ Jehovah is slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons, upon the third and upon the fourth generation. ¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech you, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness and just-as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
²⁰ And Jehovah said, I have pardoned according to your word, ²¹ but in very deed, as I live and as all the earth will be filled with the glory of Jehovah, ²² because all those men who have seen my glory and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have challenged me these ten times and have not listened to my voice, ²³ surely they will not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither will any of them who despised me see it. ²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went and his seed will possess it.
²⁵ Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley. Tomorrow turn and get into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.

²⁸ lest the land from where you brought us out say, Because Jehovah was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.

²⁶ I said, I would scatter them afar, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men, ²⁷ were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, lest their adversaries should recognize, lest they should say, Our hand is exalted and Jehovah has not done all this.

¹⁰ For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you* when you* came out of Egypt and what you* did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you* utterly destroyed.

⁹ For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it and will encompass us around and cut off our name from the earth and what will you do for your great name?

⁹ And they said to him, From a very far country. Your servants have come because of the name of Jehovah your God, for we have heard the fame of him and all that he did in Egypt, ¹⁰ and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.

⁸ Woe to us! Who will deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods that killed* the Egyptians with all manner of plagues in the wilderness.

²² For Jehovah will not forsake his people for his great name's sake, because it has pleased Jehovah to make you* a people to himself.

¹⁴ But I worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.

²² Nevertheless I withdrew my hand and worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them forth.

²¹ But I had regard for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations where they went.
²² Therefore say to the house of Israel, The lord Jehovah says thus: I do this not for your* sake, O house of Israel, but for my holy name, which you* have profaned among the nations where you* went.

⁷ And I will make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel, nor will I allow my holy name to be profaned any more. And the nations will know that I am Jehovah, the Holy One in Israel.

¹⁷ And it happened, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. For God said, Lest perhaps the people regret when they see war and they return to Egypt. ¹⁸ But God led the people about, by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea. And the sons of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁷ And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians and they will go in after them and I will get for me honor upon Pharaoh and upon all his army, upon his chariots and upon his horsemen. ¹⁸ And the Egyptians will know that I am Jehovah, when I have gotten for me honor upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots and upon his horsemen.
¹⁹ And the messenger of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. ²⁰ And it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. And the cloud and the darkness was there, yet it gave light by night. And the one did not come near the other all the night.
²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and Jehovah caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night and made the sea dry land and the waters were divided. ²² And the sons of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

²² And Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea and they went out into the wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.

⁵ You* will therefore keep my statutes and my ordinances, which if a man does, he will live in them. I am Jehovah.

⁸ And what great nation is there that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you* this day?

¹⁵ Thus you will do to all the cities which are very far off from you, which are not of the cities of these nations.
¹⁶ But of the cities of these peoples, that Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance, you will save alive nothing that breathes,

¹³ You also came down upon Mount Sinai and spoke with them from heaven and gave them right ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments, ¹⁴ and made known to them your holy Sabbath and commanded them commandments and statutes and a law, by Moses your servant.

¹⁹ He shows his word to Jacob, his statutes and his ordinances to Israel. ²⁰ He has not dealt so with any nation. And as for his ordinances, they have not known them.
Praise Jehovah.

²⁸ But he said to him, You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live.

² Much, according to every manner! For indeed, first, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God.

⁵ For Moses writes of the righteousness which is from the law, ‘The man who practices those things will be living in them.’

¹² Now the law is not from faith, but, ‘The man who does them will live in them.’

³ And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work which God had created and made.

²⁹ See, because Jehovah has given you* the Sabbath, therefore he gives you* on the sixth day the bread of two days. Abide every man in his place. Let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

⁸ Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. ⁹ Six days you will labor and do all your work, ¹⁰ but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Jehovah your God. You will not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your man-servant, nor your maid-servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates, ¹¹ for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them and rested the seventh day. Therefore Jehovah blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

¹³ Speak also to the sons of Israel, saying, Truly you* will keep my Sabbaths, because it is a sign between me and you* throughout your* genealogy, that you* may know that I am Jehovah who sanctifies you*. ¹⁴ You* will keep the Sabbath therefore, because it is holy to you*. Everyone who profanes it will surely be put to death, because whoever does any work on it, that soul will be cut off from among his people. ¹⁵ Six days will work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to Jehovah. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he will surely be put to death. ¹⁶ Therefore the sons of Israel will keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their genealogy, for a everlasting covenant. ¹⁷ It is a sign between me and the sons of Israel everlasting. For in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.

² Six days work will be done, but on the seventh day there will be to you* a holy day, a Sabbath of solemn rest to Jehovah. Whoever does any work in it will be put to death.

⁸ And you* will keep my statutes and do them. I am Jehovah who sanctifies you*.

⁸ You will sanctify him therefore, for he offers the bread of your God. He will be holy to you, for I Jehovah, who sanctify you*, am holy.

¹⁵ And he will not profane his seed among his people, for I am Jehovah who sanctifies him.

²³ only he will not go in to the veil, nor come near to the altar, because he has a blemish, that he not profane my sanctuaries, for I am Jehovah who sanctifies them.

³ Six days will work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You* will do no manner of work. It is a Sabbath to Jehovah in all your* dwellings.

²⁴ Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, will be a solemn rest to you*, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.

³² It will be to you* a Sabbath of solemn rest and you* will afflict your* souls. In the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you* will keep your* Sabbath.

³⁹ However on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you* have gathered in the fruits of the land, you* will keep the feast of Jehovah seven days. On the first day will be a solemn rest and on the eighth day will be a solemn rest.

⁴ but in the seventh year will be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to Jehovah. You will neither sow your field, nor prune your vineyard.

¹² Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as Jehovah your God commanded you. ¹³ Six days you will labor and do all your work, ¹⁴ but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Jehovah your God: you will not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maid-servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates, that your manservant and your maid-servant may rest as well as you. ¹⁵ And you will remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt and Jehovah your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm, therefore Jehovah your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

¹⁴ and made known to them your holy Sabbath and commanded them commandments and statutes and a law, by Moses your servant.

²⁰ and sanctify my Sabbaths and they will be a sign between me and you*, that you* may know that I am Jehovah your* God.

²⁸ And the nations will know that I am Jehovah, who sanctifies Israel, when my sanctuary will be in the midst of them everlasting.

²⁷ And he said to them, The Sabbath came to be because of man and not man because of the Sabbath; ²⁸ so-then, the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.

¹⁷ Make them holy in the truth; your word is truth. ¹⁸ Just-as you sent me into the world, I also sent them into the world. ¹⁹ And I make myself holy on their behalf, in order that they themselves may also be made holy in truth.

¹⁶ Therefore do not let anyone judge you in food, or in drink, or in this respect of a feast day, or a new month, or a Sabbaths;

²³ Now may the God of peace himself make you entirely holy, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹ Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to the called one, those who have been made holy in God the Father and have been kept in Jesus Christ:

²⁷ And it happened on the seventh day, that some of the people went out to gather and they found none. ²⁸ And Jehovah said to Moses, How long do you* refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?

⁸ They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made for them a molten calf and have worshiped it and have sacrificed to it and said, These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁰ Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may grow hot against them and that I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.

¹⁵ and if you* will reject my statutes and if your* soul abhors my ordinances, so that you* will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant,

⁴³ The land also will be left by them and will enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. And they will accept of the punishment of their iniquity, because, even because they rejected my ordinances and their soul loathed my statutes.

¹¹ And Jehovah said to Moses, How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them? ¹² I will kill* them with the pestilence and disinherit them and will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.

²² because all those men who have seen my glory and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have challenged me these ten times and have not listened to my voice,

²⁹ Your* dead bodies will fall in this wilderness. And all who were numbered of you*, according to your* whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me,

³¹ Because he has despised the word of Jehovah and has broken his commandment, that soul will utterly be cut off; his iniquity will be upon him.
³² And while the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks upon the Sabbath day. ³³ And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation. ³⁴ And they put him in confinement, because it had not been declared what should be done to him. ³⁵ And Jehovah said to Moses, The man will surely be put to death. All the congregation will stone him with stones outside the camp. ³⁶ And all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death with stones, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

²⁰ And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ²¹ Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

⁴⁵ You* get up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

²⁵ These are the families of Issachar according to those who were numbered of them, sixty-four thousand and three hundred.

⁸ Also in Horeb you* provoked Jehovah to wrath and Jehovah was angry with you* to destroy you*.

¹² And Jehovah said to me, Arise, get down quickly from here, for your people that you have brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them. They have made them a molten image.
¹³ Furthermore Jehovah spoke to me, saying, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stubborn people. ¹⁴ Let me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.
¹⁵ So I turned and came down from the mountain and the mountain was burning with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. ¹⁶ And I looked, and behold, you* had sinned against Jehovah your* God. You* had made you* a molten calf. You* had turned aside quickly out of the way which Jehovah had commanded you*. ¹⁷ And I took hold of the two tablets and cast them out of my two hands and broke them before your* eyes.
¹⁸ And I fell down before Jehovah, as at the first, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your* sin which you* sinned, in doing what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger. ¹⁹ For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which Jehovah was angry against you* to destroy you*. But Jehovah listened to me that time also.
²⁰ And Jehovah was very angry with Aaron to destroy him. And I prayed for Aaron also at the same time. ²¹ And I took your* sin, the calf which you* had made and burnt it with fire and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. And I cast the dust of it into the brook that descended out of the mountain.
²² And at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibroth-hattaavah, you* provoked Jehovah to wrath. ²³ And when Jehovah sent you* from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you*, then you* rebelled against the commandment of Jehovah your* God and you* did not believe him, nor listen to his voice.
²⁴ You* have been rebellious against Jehovah from the day that I knew you*.

²⁷ For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. Behold, while I am yet alive with you* this day, you* have been rebellious against Jehovah and how much more after my death?

⁸ According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me and served other gods, so do they also to you.

⁹ Why have you despised the word of Jehovah, to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.

¹⁶ But they and our fathers dealt proudly and stiffened their neck and did not listen to your commandments, ¹⁷ and refused to obey, neither were mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but stiffened their neck. And in their rebellion they appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and did not forsake them.
¹⁸ Yes, when they had made a molten calf for them and said, This is your God that brought you up out of Egypt and had worked great provocations,

⁴⁰ How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the desert! ⁴¹ And they turned again and challenged God and provoked the Holy One of Israel.

⁸ Harden not your* heart, as in the provocation, as the day of trial in the wilderness, ⁹ where your* fathers challenged me, proved me and saw my work.
¹⁰ Forty years long I was grieved with that generation and said, It is a people that do go-astray in their heart and they have not known my ways. ¹¹ Therefore I swore in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

¹³ They soon forgot his works. They did not wait for his counsel, ¹⁴ but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness and challenged God in the desert. ¹⁵ And he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.
¹⁶ They also envied Moses in the camp and Aaron the holy ones of Jehovah. ¹⁷ The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan and covered the company of Abiram.
¹⁸ And a fire was kindled in their company. The flame burned up the wicked men.
¹⁹ They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a molten image. ²⁰ Thus they changed their glory for the likeness of an ox that eats grass.
²¹ They forgot God their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, ²² wondrous works in the land of Ham and fearful things by the Red Sea.
²³ Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy.
²⁴ Yes, they despised the desirable land. They did not believe his word, ²⁵ but murmured in their tents and did not listen to the voice of Jehovah.
²⁶ Therefore he swore to them, that he would overthrow them in the wilderness, ²⁷ and that he would overthrow their seed among the nations and scatter them in the lands.
²⁸ They also joined themselves to Baal of Peor and ate the sacrifices of the dead. ²⁹ Thus they provoked him to anger with their practices and the plague broke in upon them.
³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up and executed judgment and so the plague was restrained. ³¹ And that was reckoned to him for righteousness to generation and generation until everlasting.
³² They also angered him at the waters of Meribah, so that it went ill with Moses because of them, ³³ because they were rebellious against his spirit and he spoke ill-advisedly with his lips.

²⁵ but you* have made all my counsel void and want none of my reproof,

¹³ He who despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who fears the commandment will be rewarded.

⁶ Also the foreigners who join themselves to Jehovah, to minister to him and to love the name of Jehovah, to be his servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath from profaning it and holds fast my covenant,

¹⁶ because they rejected my ordinances and did not walk in my statutes and profaned my Sabbaths, for their heart went after their idols.

²⁴ because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes and had profaned my Sabbaths and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

⁴ Jehovah says thus: For three transgressions of Judah, yes, for four, I will not turn away the punishment of it, because they have rejected the law of Jehovah and have not kept his statutes and their lies have made them go-astray, according to which their fathers walked.

⁸ Therefore, the one who is rejecting this is not rejecting man, but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you.

²⁸ Anyone who has rejected the Law of Moses, dies without mercy upon the word of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment, do you think he will be deemed worthy of, after having trampled under foot the Son of God, and having deemed the blood of the covenant in which he was made holy as common, and having insulted the Spirit of the grace?

⁹ But I worked for my name's sake (that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them) in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

²² Therefore say to the house of Israel, The lord Jehovah says thus: I do this not for your* sake, O house of Israel, but for my holy name, which you* have profaned among the nations where you* went. ²³ And I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you* have profaned in the midst of them.
And the nations will know that I am Jehovah, says the lord Jehovah, when I will be made holy in you* before their eyes.

⁶ to the praise of the glory of his favor, in which he has favored us in the beloved,

¹² That we should be for the praise of his glory, we who have hoped before in the Christ,

²³ surely they will not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither will any of them who despised me see it. ²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went and his seed will possess it.
²⁵ Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley. Tomorrow turn and get into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.
²⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ²⁷ How long shall I bear with this evil congregation that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel, which they murmur against me. ²⁸ Say to them, As I live, says Jehovah, surely as you* have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you*. ²⁹ Your* dead bodies will fall in this wilderness. And all who were numbered of you*, according to your* whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me, ³⁰ surely you* will not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you* dwell in it, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

⁶⁴ But among these there was not a man of them who was numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For Jehovah had said of them, They will surely die in the wilderness. And there was not a man of them left, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

³⁴ And Jehovah heard the voice of your* words and was angry and swore, saying, ³⁵ Surely there will not one of these men of this evil generation see the good land, which I swore to give to your* fathers,

¹¹ Therefore I swore in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

²⁶ Therefore he swore to them, that he would overthrow them in the wilderness,

¹¹ As I swore in my wrath, they will not be entering into my rest.’

¹⁸ Now to whom did he swear that they will not be entering into his rest, except to the disobedient?

³ For we who have believed are entering into that rest; just-as he has said, ‘ As I swore in my wrath, they will not be entering into my rest,’although the works have happened from the conception of the world.

¹ And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, Up, make gods for us, which will go before us. For as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.
² And Aaron said to them, Break off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your* wives, of your* sons and of your* daughters and bring them to me. ³ And all the people broke off the golden rings which were in their ears and brought them to Aaron.
⁴ And he received it at their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made it a molten calf. And they said, These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt. ⁵ And when Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made proclamation and said, Tomorrow will be a feast to Jehovah.
⁶ And they rose up early on the morrow and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and to drink and rose up to revel.
⁷ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, Go, get down. For your people, that you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. ⁸ They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made for them a molten calf and have worshiped it and have sacrificed to it and said, These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

³⁹ And it will be to you* for a hem, that you* may look upon it and remember all the commandments of Jehovah and do them and that you* not follow after your* own heart and your* own eyes, after which you* use to play the prostitute,

² for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods. And the people ate and bowed-down to their gods.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he will live in them. And they greatly profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them. ¹⁴ But I worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.

²⁵ Did you* bring sacrifices and offerings to me in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? ²⁶ Yes, you* have borne the tabernacle of Moloch and the star of your* god Remphan, your* images which you* made to yourselves.

³⁹ to whom our fathers willed not to become obedient, but thrust him from themselves and turned back to Egypt in their hearts, ⁴⁰ saying to Aaron, Make us gods that will travel before us. For this Moses, who led us forth out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him. ⁴¹ And they made a calf in those days and led a sacrifice to the idol and were being joyous in the works of their hands. ⁴² But God turned and gave them up to give-divine service to the army of heaven; just-as it has been written in the book of the prophets, ‘You did not offer slaughtered beasts and sacrifices to me for forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel, did you? ⁴³ And you took up the tabernacle of Moloch and the star of the god Remphan, the patterns which you made to worship and I will be exiling you past Babylon.’

¹⁰ Behold, this day your eyes have seen how that Jehovah had delivered you today into my hand in the cave. And some commanded me kill you, but I spared you. And I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord, for he is Jehovah's anointed.

¹⁹ yet you in your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud did not depart from over them by day to lead them in the way, neither the pillar of fire by night to show them light and the way in which they should go.

³⁷ For their heart was not right with him, nor were they faithful in his covenant.
³⁸ But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity and did not destroy. Yes, he turned his anger away much and did not stir up all his wrath.

²⁷ For Jehovah says thus: The whole land will be a desolation, yet I will not make a full end.

¹⁸ But even in those days, says Jehovah, I will not make a full end with you*.

² And you, son of man, thus says the lord Jehovah to the land of Israel: An end. The end has come upon the four corners of the land.

¹⁸ Therefore I will also deal in wrath. My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet I will not hear them.

¹⁰ And as for me also, my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity, but I will bring their way upon their head.

¹³ And it happened, when I prophesied, that Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then I fell down upon my face and cried with a loud voice and said, Ah lord Jehovah! Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?

⁸ But with an over running flood he will make a full end of her place and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
⁹ What do you* devise against Jehovah? He will make a full end. Affliction will not rise up the second time.

³² But as for you*, your* dead bodies will fall in this wilderness. ³³ And your* sons will be wanderers in the wilderness forty years and will bear your* prostitutions, until your* dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.

¹³ And Jehovah's anger was kindled against Israel and he made them wander to and fro in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of Jehovah was consumed.
¹⁴ And behold, you* have risen up in your* fathers' stead, an brood of sinful men, to consume yet the fierce anger of Jehovah toward Israel. ¹⁵ For if you* turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness and you* will destroy all this people.

³ Your* eyes have seen what Jehovah did because of Baal-peor. For all the men who followed Baal-peor, Jehovah your God has destroyed them from the midst of you. ⁴ But you* who clung to Jehovah your* God are alive every one of you* this day.
⁵ Behold, I have taught you* statutes and ordinances, even as Jehovah my God commanded me, that you* should do so in the midst of the land where you* go in to possess it. ⁶ Keep therefore and do them, for this is your* wisdom and your* understanding in the sight of the peoples, who will hear all these statutes and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

⁶ that the generation to come might know, even the sons who should be born, who should arise and tell to their sons, ⁷ that they might set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments, ⁸ and might not be as their fathers: a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not set their heart aright and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

⁷ And I brought you* into a plentiful land, to eat the fruit of it and the goodness of it.
But when you* entered, you* defiled my land and made my heritage an abomination.

⁹ And it happened through the lightness of her prostitution, that the land was polluted and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

² Jehovah was greatly displeased with your* fathers. ³ Therefore you say to them, Jehovah of hosts says thus:
Return to me, says Jehovah of hosts and I will return to you*, says Jehovah of hosts. ⁴ Do not be as your* fathers, to whom the former prophets cried, saying, Jehovah of hosts says thus: Return now from your* evil ways and from your* evil practices, but they did not hear, nor listen to me, says Jehovah.

⁴⁷ Woe to you! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Consequently, you are testifying and consenting to the works of your fathers, because they indeed killed them, and you build their tombs.

⁵¹ You are stiff-necked and non-circumcised in heart and ears. You are habitually defying the Holy Spirit, like your fathers, like you also!

¹⁸ knowing that you were redeemed from your futile conduct handed down from your forefathers not with corruptible things like with silver or with gold.

¹ And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you*, to do them, that you* may live and go in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, gives you*.

¹ And Moses called to all Israel and said to them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your* ears this day, that you* may learn them and observe to do them.

⁶ I am Jehovah your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ⁷ You will have no other gods before me.

³² You* will observe to do therefore as Jehovah your* God has commanded you*. You* will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

⁴ For he will turn away your son from following me, that they may serve other gods, so the anger of Jehovah will be kindled against you* and he will destroy you quickly.
⁵ But thus will you* deal with them: You* will break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and hew down their Asherim and burn their graven images with fire.
⁶ For you are a holy people to Jehovah your God. Jehovah your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

¹ All the commandment which I command you this day you* will observe to do, that you* may live and multiply and go in and possess the land which Jehovah swore to your* fathers.

¹ At that time Jehovah said to me, Hew you two tablets of stone like the first and come up to me onto the mountain and make you an ark of wood. ² And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke and you will put them in the ark. ³ So I made an ark of acacia wood and hewed two tablets of stone like the first and went up onto the mountain, having the two tablets in my hand. ⁴ And he wrote on the tablets according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which Jehovah spoke to you* in the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly and Jehovah gave them to me. ⁵ And I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark which I had made. And they are there as Jehovah commanded me.
⁶ (And the sons of Israel journeyed from Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and there he was buried and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office instead of him. ⁷ From there they journeyed to Gudgodah and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water. ⁸ At that time Jehovah set apart the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, to stand before Jehovah to minister to him and to bless in his name, to this day. ⁹ Therefore Levi has no portion nor inheritance with his brothers. Jehovah is his inheritance, just-as Jehovah your God spoke to him.)
¹⁰ And I stayed on the mountain as at the first time, forty days and forty nights and Jehovah listened to me that time also: Jehovah would not destroy you. ¹¹ And Jehovah said to me, Arise, take your journey before the people and they will go in and possess the land, which I swore to their fathers to give to them.
¹² And now, Israel, what does Jehovah your God require of you, but to fear Jehovah your God, to walk in all his ways and to love him and to serve Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

¹ Therefore you will love Jehovah your God and keep his charge and his statutes and his ordinances and his commandments, always.

¹ These are the statutes and the ordinances which you* will observe to do in the land which Jehovah, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess it all the days that you* live upon the earth.

⁷ The law of Jehovah is perfect, restoring the soul. The testimony of Jehovah is sure, making a simple man wise. ⁸ The precepts of Jehovah are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of Jehovah is pure, enlightening the eyes. ⁹ The fear of Jehovah is clean, enduring forever. The ordinances of Jehovah are true and righteous altogether. ¹⁰ They are more to be desired than gold, yes, than much fine gold. Sweeter also than honey and the droppings of the honeycomb. ¹¹ Moreover by them your servant is warned. There is great reward in keeping them.

⁹ There will be no strange god in you, nor will you worship any foreign god.
¹⁰ I am Jehovah your God who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.

⁴⁵ that they might keep his statutes and observe his laws. Praise Jehovah.

²² Return, you* backsliding sons, I will heal your* backslidings. Behold, we have come to you, for you are Jehovah our God. ²³ Truly it is in vain from the heights, the multitude on the mountains. Truly in Jehovah our God is the salvation of Israel.

²⁰ that they may walk in my statutes and keep my ordinances and do them. And they will be my people and I will be their God.

²⁷ And I will put my Spirit within you* and cause you* to walk in my statutes and you* will keep my ordinances and do them.

²⁴ And my servant David will be king over them and they all will have one shepherd. They will also walk in my ordinances and observe my statutes and do them.

¹¹ For the grace of God has appeared, which is salvation to all men, ¹² educating us in order that we should live with self-discipline and righteously and devoutly in this current age, after having denied ungodliness and worldly lusts; ¹³ waiting for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ; ¹⁴ who gave himself on our behalf, in order that he might redeem us away from all lawlessness and might cleanse a treasured people for himself, zealous of good works.

¹¹ for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them and rested the seventh day. Therefore Jehovah blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

¹⁵ In those days I saw in Judah some men treading wine-presses on the Sabbath and bringing in sheaves and loading donkeys on them, as also wine, grapes and figs and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. And I testified against them in the day in which they sold foods.
¹⁶ There dwelt men of Tyre also in it who brought in fish and all manner of wares and sold on the Sabbath to the sons of Judah and in Jerusalem.
¹⁷ Then I contended with the ranking men of Judah and said to them, What evil thing is this that you* do and profane the Sabbath day? ¹⁸ Did not your* fathers thus and did not our God bring all this evil upon us and upon this city? Yet you* bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the Sabbath.
¹⁹ And it happened that, when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut and commanded that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath. And I set some of my servants over the gates that there should be no burden brought in on the Sabbath day.
²⁰ So the merchants and sellers of all kind of wares lodged outside Jerusalem once or twice. ²¹ Then I testified against them and said to them, Why do you* lodge outside the wall? If you* do so again, I will lay hands on you*. From that time forth they came no more on the Sabbath.
²² And I commanded the Levites that they should purify themselves and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day. Remember to me, O my God, this also and spare me according to the greatness of your loving kindness.

¹³ If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day and call the Sabbath a delight, and the holy of Jehovah honorable and will honor it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words:

²² Neither carry forth a burden out of your* houses on the Sabbath day, nor do you* any work. But sanctify yourselves the Sabbath day, as I commanded your* fathers.

²⁴ And it will happen, if you* diligently listen to me, says Jehovah, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but to sanctify the Sabbath day, to do no work in it,

²⁷ But if you* will not listen to me to sanctify the Sabbath day and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in the gates of it and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem and it will not be quenched.

¹² Moreover I also gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Jehovah who sanctifies them.

²⁴ And in a controversy they will stand to judge. They will judge it according to my ordinances. And they will keep my laws and my statutes in all my appointed feasts and they will sanctify my Sabbaths.

⁵ And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have you* brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread and there is no water and our soul loathes this light bread.

¹ And Israel abode in Shittim. And the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Moab, ² for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods. And the people ate and bowed-down to their gods. ³ And Israel joined himself to Baal-peor and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.
⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people and hang them up to Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may turn away from Israel. ⁵ And Moses said to the judges of Israel, Kill you* every one his men who have joined themselves to Baal-peor.
⁶ And behold, one of the sons of Israel came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.
⁷ And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation and took a spear in his hand. ⁸ And he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the sons of Israel.

²¹ Go, inquire of Jehovah for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found. For great is the wrath of Jehovah that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of Jehovah, to do according to all that is written in this book.

²⁵ Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore my wrath is poured out upon this place and it will not be quenched.

¹¹ Jehovah has accomplished his wrath. He has poured out his fierce anger and he has kindled a fire in Zion, which has devoured the foundations of it.

¹⁵ Thus I will accomplish my wrath upon the wall and upon those who have daubed it with untempered mortar. And I will say to you*, The wall is no more, nor those who daubed it,

¹¹ And I gave them my statutes and showed them my ordinances, which if a man does, he will live in them.

³¹ And I will pour out my indignation upon you. I will breathe fire of my wrath upon you and I will deliver you into the hand of stupid men, skillful to destroy.

³⁶ And the king will do according to his will. And he will exalt himself and magnify himself above every god and will speak marvelous things against the God of gods. And he will prosper till the indignation be accomplished, for what is determined will be done.

¹⁸ And he tolerated their mannerisms in the wilderness for approximately the time of forty years.

¹ And I heard a loud voice out of the temple, saying to the seven messengers, Go and pour out the seven bowls of the fury of God into the earth.

²¹ Withdraw your hand far from me and do not let your dread make me afraid.

¹¹ For your name's sake, O Jehovah, pardon my iniquity, because it is great.

³⁸ But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity and did not destroy. Yes, he turned his anger away much and did not stir up all his wrath.

⁹ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name. And deliver us and forgive our sins, for your name's sake.
¹⁰ Why should the nations say, Where is their God? Let the avenging of the blood of your servants which is shed be known among the nations in our sight.

¹ Not to us, O Jehovah, not to us, but to your name give glory. Upon your loving kindness and upon your truth's sake.

⁹ For my name's sake I will defer my anger and for my praise I will refrain for you, that I not cut you off. ¹⁰ Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver. I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction. ¹¹ For my own sake, for my own sake, I will do it. For how should my name be profaned? And I will not give my glory to another.

⁷ Though our iniquities testify against us, work you for your name's sake, O Jehovah. For our backslidings are many. We have sinned against you.

²¹ Do not abhor us. For your name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of your glory. Remember, do not break your covenant with us.

⁸ Jehovah has purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion. He has stretched out the line. He has not withdrawn his hand from destroying. And he has made the rampart and wall to lament, they languish together.

¹⁷ Nevertheless my eye spared them and I did not destroy them, nor did I make a full end of them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his supplications and cause your face to shine upon your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

¹⁹ O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and do. Defer not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.

³³ And I will scatter you* among the nations and I will draw out the sword after you* and your* land will be a desolation and your* cities will be a waste.

⁶⁴ And Jehovah will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. And you will serve other gods there, which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone ones.
⁶⁵ And among these nations you will find no ease and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot, but Jehovah will give you there a trembling heart and failing of eyes and pining of soul. ⁶⁶ And your life will hang in doubt before you and you will fear night and day and will have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you will say, Would it were evening! and at evening you will say, Would it were morning! for the fear of your heart which you will fear and for the sight of your eyes which you will see. ⁶⁸ And Jehovah will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You will see it no more again. And there you* will sell yourselves to your* enemies for bondmen and for bondwomen and no man will buy you*.

²⁷ and that he would overthrow their seed among the nations and scatter them in the lands.

⁴ And I will cause them to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, for what he did in Jerusalem.

⁵ And the messenger whom I saw standing upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his right hand to the heaven, ⁶ and swore by the one who lives forevermore, who created the heaven and the things in it and the earth and the things in it and the sea and the things in it–that time will be no longer delay.

¹⁹ And lest you lift up your eyes to heaven and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, you are drawn away and worship them and serve them, which Jehovah your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.

²⁶ if I have beheld the sun when it shone, or the moon walking in brightness, ²⁷ and my heart has been secretly enticed and my mouth has kissed my hand

¹² has wronged the poor and needy man, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,

²⁷ And Jehovah will scatter you* among the peoples and you* will be left few in number among the nations where Jehovah will lead you* away. ²⁸ And there you* will serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

³⁶ Jehovah will bring you and your king whom you will set over you, to a nation that you have not known, you nor your fathers. And there you will serve other gods, wood and stone.

¹² So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart, that they might walk in their own counsels.

⁴ I also will choose their delusions and will bring their fears upon them. Because when I called, none answered. When I spoke, they did not hear. But they did what was evil in my eyes and chose that in which I did not delight.

⁹ And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, Jehovah, have deceived that prophet. And I will stretch out my hand upon him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
¹⁰ And they will bear their iniquity. The iniquity of the prophet will be even as the iniquity of him who seeks him, ¹¹ that the house of Israel may no more go-astray from me, nor defile themselves any more with all their transgressions, but that they may be my people and I may be their God, says the lord Jehovah.

²⁶ And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that opens the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am Jehovah.

³⁹ As for you*, O house of Israel, thus says the lord Jehovah: Go you*. Serve each one his idols and hereafter also, if you* will not listen to me. But you* will no more profane my holy name with your* gifts and with your* idols.

²¹ because having known God, they did not glorify him as God, nor gave-thanks, but became-futile in their reasonings and their heart was darkened without understanding. ²² They were foolish, claiming to be wise, ²³ and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and of four footed mammals and of reptiles.
²⁴ Hence also, God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts into uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves. ²⁵ They exchanged the truth of God into a lie and worshiped and gave-divine service to the created thing contrary to the one who created it, who is gracious forever. Amen.
²⁶ Because of this, God gave them up to passions of dishonor; for even their females exchanged the natural use into what is contrary to anything natural; ²⁷ and the males also likewise, having left the natural use of the female, burned in their lust toward one another, males with males working forth indecency and receiving in themselves the recompense which was essential from their error.
²⁸ And just-as they did not approve to have God in their full knowledge, God gave them up to an unapproved mind, to do those things which are not proper.

⁹ even he, whose presence is according to the working of the Adversary in every power and in signs and in lying wonders, ¹⁰ and in all deception of unrighteousness in those who are perishing, because they did not accept the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God will be sending them a working of error, that they may believe in the lie;

¹² that you will set apart to Jehovah all that opens the womb. And every first-offspring which you have that comes of a beast, the males will be Jehovah's.

²¹ And you will not give any of your seed to make them pass through the fire to Molech, neither will you profane the name of your God. I am Jehovah.

¹⁷ And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire and used divination and enchantments and sold themselves to do what was evil in the sight of Jehovah to provoke him to anger.

⁶ And he made his son to pass through the fire and practiced soothsaying and used enchantments and dealt with psychics and with sorcery. He worked much evil in the sight of Jehovah to provoke him to anger.

³ Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom and burnt his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom Jehovah cast out before the sons of Israel.

⁶ He also made his sons to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom. And he practiced soothsaying and used enchantments and practiced sorcery and dealt with psychics and with wizards. He worked much evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁷ O Jehovah, why do you make us wander from your ways and harden our heart from your fear? Return for your servants' sake, the tribes of your inheritance.

⁹ And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters. And they will eat each one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life, will distress them.

³⁵ And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

⁷ And the slain will fall in the midst of you*.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.

²⁰ Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to me and you have sacrificed these to them to be devoured. Were your prostitutions a small matter, ²¹ that you have slain my children and delivered them up, in causing them to pass through the fire to them?

²³ (as it has been written in the Law of the Lord, ‘Every male who opens the womb will be called holy to the Lord’);

⁷ Therefore what? What Israel is seeking after, it did not obtain this, but the chosen obtained it and the rest were hardened; ⁸ just-as it has been written, ‘God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes in order that they should not see and ears in order that they should not hear, until this very day.’ ⁹ And David says, ‘Let their table become for a snare and for a trap and for an offense and for a repayment to them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened not to see and may you always bow down their backs.’

⁷ And you will speak my words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, for they are most rebellious.

⁴ And he said to me, Son of man, go, get to the house of Israel and speak to them with my words.

¹¹ And go, get to those of the captivity, to the sons of your people and speak to them and tell them, The lord Jehovah says thus, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.

²⁷ But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth and you will say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus. He who hears, let him hear and he who forbears, let him forbear, for they are a rebellious house.

²⁴ But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits unrighteousness and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he will die.

²⁴ ‘For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,’just-as it has been written.

⁵ And a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies was given to him, and authority to make war forty-two months was given to him.

¹⁸ In that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates: ¹⁹ the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite ²⁰ and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim ²¹ and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.

³ Travel in this land and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and to your seed, I will give all these lands and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father. ⁴ And I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven and will give to your seed all these lands and in your seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed,

³ and you* have seen all that Jehovah your* God has done to all these nations because of you*, for Jehovah your* God, he it is who has fought for you*.
⁴ Behold, I have allotted to you* these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your* tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even to the great sea toward the going down of the sun.

¹⁴ And behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you* know in all your* hearts and in all your* souls, that not one thing has failed of all the good things which Jehovah your* God spoke concerning you*. All have happen to you*; not one thing has failed of it.

²² Moreover you gave them kingdoms and peoples, which you allotted after their portions. So they possessed the land of Sihon, even the land of the king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan. ²³ Their sons you also multiplied as the stars of heaven and brought them into the land concerning which you said to their fathers that they should go in to possess it.
²⁴ So the sons went in and possessed the land. And you subdued the inhabitants of the land before them, the Canaanites and gave them into their hands, with their kings and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they would. ²⁵ And they took fortified cities and a fat land and possessed houses full of all good things, cisterns hewn out, vineyards and olive-groves and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate and were filled and became fat and delighted themselves in your great goodness.
²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets who testified against them to turn them again to you and they worked great provocations.

⁵⁵ He also drove out the nations before them and allotted them for an inheritance by line and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
⁵⁶ Yet they challenged and rebelled against the Most High God and did not keep his testimonies, ⁵⁷ but turned back and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were turned aside like a deceitful bow. ⁵⁸ For they provoked him to anger with their high places and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

⁸ He has remembered his covenant everlasting, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations, ⁹ which he made with Abraham and his oath to Isaac, ¹⁰ and confirmed the same to Jacob for a statute, to Israel for an everlasting covenant, ¹¹ saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your* inheritance,

⁵ you* who inflame yourselves among the oaks, under every green tree, who kill the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?
⁶ Among the smooth stones of the valley is your portion. They, they are your lot, even to them you have poured a drink offering; you have offered an oblation. Shall I be appeased for these things?
⁷ Upon a high and lofty mountain you have set your bed. You also went up there to offer sacrifice.

⁶ Moreover Jehovah said to me in the days of Josiah the king, Have you seen what backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree and there has played the prostitute.

¹³ And you* will know that I am Jehovah, when their slain men will be among their idols all around their altars, upon every high hill, on all the tops of the mountains and under every green tree and under every thick oak, the places where they offered sweet aroma to all their idols.

¹⁹ My bread also which I gave you, fine flour and oil and honey, with which I fed you, you even set it before them for a sweet aroma and thus it was, says the lord Jehovah.

⁶ I swore to them in that day, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.

²⁴ that you have built yourself a vaulted place and have made you a lofty place in every street. ²⁵ You have built your lofty place at the head of every way and have made your beauty an abomination. And have opened your feet to everyone who passed by and multiplied your prostitution.

³¹ in that you build your vaulted place at the head of every way and make your lofty place in every street. And have not even been as a prostitute, in that you scorn hire.

¹⁴ And behold, you* have risen up in your* fathers' stead, an brood of sinful men, to consume yet the fierce anger of Jehovah toward Israel.

¹⁹ But it happened, when the judge was dead, that they turned back and dealt more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and to bow down to them. They did not cease from their practices, nor from their stubborn way.

²⁶ Yet they listened not to me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff. They did worse than their fathers.

¹⁴ but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart and after the Baals, which their fathers taught them.

¹² And you* have done evil more than your* fathers, for, behold, you* walk each one after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that you* listen not to me.

³² And you, fill up the measure of your fathers.

¹⁰ There will not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, a psychic, he who practices soothsaying, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, ¹¹ or a charmer, or a medium, or a spiritist, or a necromancer. ¹² For whoever does these things is an abomination to Jehovah. And because of these abominations Jehovah your God drives them out from before you.

⁵ And when Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid and his heart trembled greatly. ⁶ And when Saul inquired of Jehovah, Jehovah answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

¹³ And Elisha said to the King of Israel, What have I to do with you? You get to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother. And the King of Israel said to him, No, for Jehovah has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
¹⁴ And Elisha said, As Jehovah of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.

⁸ For what is the hope of the profane, though he gets him gain, when God takes away his soul?

¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty and call upon God at all times?

¹⁸ If I regard wickedness in my heart, the Lord will not hear.

³⁷ Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was polluted with blood.
³⁹ Thus they were defiled with their works and played the prostitute in their practices.

²⁷ when your* fear comes as a storm and your* calamity comes on as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you*.
²⁸ Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me,

³¹ And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind.

¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry. And when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence.

⁵ and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I commanded not, nor spoke it, neither did it come into my mind,

²⁰ Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to me and you have sacrificed these to them to be devoured. Were your prostitutions a small matter,

³ Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Is it to inquire of me that you* have come? As I live, says the lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you*.

¹³ And it has happen that, as he cried and they would not hear, so they will cry and I will not hear, said Jehovah of hosts.

¹¹ Later the rest of the virgins also came, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. ¹² But he answered and said, Assuredly I am saying to you, I do not know you.

¹ From where are the wars and quarrels among you come from? Is it not from here, from your own sensual-delights which are warring in your members? ² You lust and do not have; you murder and are jealous and are not able to obtain; you quarrel and make war; you do not have, because you are not asking. ³ You ask and do not receive, because you ask evilly, in order that you may spend it in your sensual-delights.

²⁸ And there you* will serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

⁶⁴ And Jehovah will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. And you will serve other gods there, which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone ones.

¹⁷ and you* have seen their abominations and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them).

⁵ And they said to him, Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make for us a king to judge us like all the nations.

² You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought afar off.

²¹ There are many devices in a man's heart, but the counsel of Jehovah, that will stand.

¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

¹⁷ But we will certainly perform every word that has gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our rulers, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food and were well and saw no evil.

²⁹ And this will be the sign to you*, says Jehovah, that I will punish you* in this place, that you* may know that my words will surely stand against you* for evil:

³⁷ Who is he that says and it happens, when the Lord does not command it?

⁵ And the Spirit of Jehovah fell upon me and he said to me, Speak, Jehovah says thus: Thus you* have said, O house of Israel, for I know the things that come into your* mind.

¹⁰ The lord Jehovah says thus: It will happen in that day, that things will come into your mind and you will devise an evil plan.

⁴ They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood and of stone.

² And not to fashion yourselves to this age, but be transfigured by the renewal of your mind, that you may be proving in you what is the will of God: the good and acceptable and mature.

²⁰ And the rest of mankind, who were not killed with these wounds, did not repent of the works of their hands, in order that they should not worship the demons and the golden and silver and the brass and the stone and the wooden idols; which are not able to see, nor hear, nor walk.

⁵ And I myself will fight against you* with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and in wrath and in great indignation.

¹⁸ For Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: As my anger and my wrath has been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so will my wrath be poured forth upon you* when you* will enter into Egypt. And you* will be an execration and an astonishment and a curse and a reproach. And you* will see this place no more.

⁶ Therefore my wrath and my anger was poured forth and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.

⁴ He has bent his bow like an enemy. He has stood with his right hand as an adversary and has slain all who were pleasant to the eye. He has poured out his wrath like fire in the tent of the daughter of Zion.

¹¹ Yes, all Israel have transgressed your law, even turning aside, that they should not obey your voice. Therefore the curse has been poured out upon us and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God. For we have sinned against him. ¹² And he has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil, for under the whole heaven has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem.

⁹ Therefore by this the iniquity of Jacob will be forgiven. And this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: that he makes all the stones of the altar like smashed chalk-stones, so that the Asherim and the sun-images will rise no more.
¹⁰ For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken like the wilderness. There the calf will feed and there he will lie down and consume the branches of it. ¹¹ When the limbs of it are withered, they will be broken off. The women will come and set them on fire, for it is a people of no understanding. Therefore he who made them will not have compassion upon them and he who formed them will show them no favor.
¹² And it will happen in that day, that Jehovah will beat off his fruit, from the flood of the River to the brook of Egypt. And you* will be gathered one by one, O you* sons of Israel. ¹³ And it will happen in that day, that a great trumpet will be blown. And they will come who were ready to perish in the land of Assyria and those who were outcasts in the land of Egypt. And they will worship Jehovah in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

³⁸ And I will purge out from among you* the rebels and those who transgress against me. I will bring them forth out of the land where they journey, but they will not enter into the land of Israel.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.

¹⁶ I will seek what was lost and will bring back what was driven away and will bind up what was broken and will strengthen what was sick, but I will destroy the fat and the strong. I will feed them in justice.

⁹ For behold, I will command and I will sift the house of Israel among all the nations, just as grain is sifted in a sieve, yet the least kernel will not fall upon the earth. ¹⁰ All the sinners of my people will die by the sword, who say, The evil will not overtake nor meet us.

⁹ Therefore I will yet contend with you*, says Jehovah and I will contend with your* son's sons.

³⁵ Yet you said, I am innocent. Surely his anger is turned away from me. Behold, I will enter into judgment with you because you say, I have not sinned.

³¹ A noise will come even to the end of the earth, for Jehovah has a controversy with the nations. He will enter into judgment with all flesh. As for the wicked, he will give them to the sword, says Jehovah.

²⁰ And I will spread my net upon him and he will be taken in my snare. And I will bring him to Babylon and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me.

¹³ And now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.

³⁶ Just as I entered into judgment with your* fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you*, says the lord Jehovah.

⁸ After many days you will be visited. In the latter years you will come into the land that is brought back from the sword, that is gathered out of many peoples, upon the mountains of Israel, which have been a continual waste, but it is brought forth out of the peoples and they will dwell securely, all of them.

²² And I will enter into judgment with him with pestilence and with blood. And I will rain upon him and upon his hordes and upon the many peoples who are with him, an overflowing shower and great hailstones, fire and brimstone.

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will allure her and bring her into the wilderness and speak soothingly to her.

¹ Hear the word of Jehovah, you* sons of Israel, for Jehovah has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.

¹⁰ Be in pain and labor to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail.
For now you will go forth out of the city and will dwell in the field and will come even to Babylon. There you will be rescued. There Jehovah will redeem you from the hand of your enemies.

¹ Hear now what Jehovah says: Arise, contend before the mountains and let the hills hear your voice. ² Hear, O you* mountains, Jehovah's controversy and you* enduring foundations of the earth, for Jehovah has a controversy with his people and he will contend with Israel.

¹³ Yet the land will be desolate because of those who dwell in it, for the fruit of their practices.
¹⁴ Feed your people with your rod, the flock of your heritage, which dwell solitarily in the forest in the midst of Carmel. Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old. ¹⁵ As in the days of your coming forth out of the land of Egypt I will show marvelous things to them.

¹⁴ And the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, in order that she may fly into the wilderness to her place, that she may be nourished there for a time and times and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

⁷ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, Go, get down. For your people, that you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. ⁸ They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made for them a molten calf and have worshiped it and have sacrificed to it and said, These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
⁹ And Jehovah said to Moses, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people. ¹⁰ Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may grow hot against them and that I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.
¹¹ And Moses besought Jehovah his God and said, Jehovah, why does your wrath grow hot against your people, whom you have brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? ¹² Why should the Egyptians speak, saying, He brought them forth for evil, to kill them on the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from your fierce wrath and relent of this evil against your people.
¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self and said to them, I will multiply your* seed as the stars of heaven. And all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your* seed and they will inherit it everlasting.
¹⁴ And Jehovah relented of the evil which he said he would do to his people.
¹⁵ And Moses turned and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. ¹⁶ And the tablets were the work of God and the writing was the writing of God, engraved upon the tablets.
¹⁷ And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. ¹⁸ And he said, It is not the voice of those who shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of those who cry for being overcome, but the noise of those who sing I hear.
¹⁹ And it happened, as soon as he came near to the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing. And Moses' anger grew hot and he cast the tablets out of his hands and broke them beneath the mountain. ²⁰ And he took the calf which they had made and burnt it with fire and ground it to powder and scattered it upon the water and made the sons of Israel drink of it.
²¹ And Moses said to Aaron, What did this people do to you, that you have brought a great sin upon them? ²² And Aaron said, Do not let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil. ²³ For they said to me, Make gods for us, which will go before us. For as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him. ²⁴ And I said to them, Whoever has any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it to me and I cast it into the fire and there came out this calf.
²⁵ And when Moses saw that the people were broken loose, (for Aaron had let them loose for a whisper among their enemies,) ²⁶ then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, Whoever is on Jehovah's side, come to me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. ²⁷ And he said to them, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, Put every man his sword upon his thigh and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp and kill* every man his brother and every man his companion and every man his neighbor.
²⁸ And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. And there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. ²⁹ And Moses said, Consecrate yourselves today to Jehovah, yes, every man against his son and against his brother, that he may bestow upon you* a blessing this day.
³⁰ And it happened on the morrow, that Moses said to the people, You* have sinned a great sin. And now I will go up to Jehovah, perhaps I will make atonement for your* sin.
³¹ And Moses returned to Jehovah and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin and have made gods of gold for them. ³² Yet now, if you will forgive their sin–and if not, I beseech you, blot me out of your book which you have written. ³³ And Jehovah said to Moses, Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
³⁴ And now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my messenger will go before you. Nevertheless in the day when I visit, I will visit their sin upon them. ³⁵ And Jehovah killed* the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

¹ And the people were as complainers, speaking evil in the ears of Jehovah. And when Jehovah heard it, his anger was kindled and the fire of Jehovah burnt among them and devoured in the outermost part of the camp. ² And the people cried to Moses. And Moses prayed to Jehovah and the fire abated. ³ And the name of that place was called Taberah, because the fire of Jehovah burnt among them.
⁴ And the mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly. And the sons of Israel also wept again and said, Who will give us flesh to eat? ⁵ We remember the fish which we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic, ⁶ but now our soul is dried away. There is nothing at all except this manna to look upon.
⁷ And the manna was like coriander seed and the appearance of it as the appearance of bdellium. ⁸ The people went about and gathered it and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars and boiled it in pots and made cakes of it. And the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil. ⁹ And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
¹⁰ And Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent. And the anger of Jehovah was kindled greatly and Moses was displeased. ¹¹ And Moses said to Jehovah, Why have you dealt ill with your servant? And why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people upon me? ¹² Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that you should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nurturing father carries the sucking child, to the land which you swore to their fathers? ¹³ From where should I have flesh to give to all this people? For they weep to me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
¹⁴ I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. ¹⁵ And if you deal thus with me, I beseech you, kill me out of hand, if I have found favor in your sight and do not let me see my wretchedness.
¹⁶ And Jehovah said to Moses, Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them. And bring them to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you. ¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with you there. And I will take of the spirit which is upon you and will put it upon them and they will bear the burden of the people with you, that you not bear it yourself alone.
¹⁸ And you say to the people, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow and you* will eat flesh, for you* have wept in the ears of Jehovah, saying, Who will give us flesh to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt. Therefore Jehovah will give you* flesh and you* will eat. ¹⁹ You* will not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days, ²⁰ but a whole month, until it comes out at your* nostrils and it is loathsome to you*, because you* have rejected Jehovah who is among you* and have wept before him, saying, Why did we come forth out of Egypt?
²¹ And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen and you have said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month. ²² Shall flocks and herds be slain for them, to suffice them? Or will all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
²³ And Jehovah said to Moses, Is Jehovah's hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not. ²⁴ And Moses went out and told the people the words of Jehovah. And he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and set them all around the tent.
²⁵ And Jehovah came down in the cloud and spoke to him and took of the spirit that was upon him and put it upon the seventy elders. And it happened, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.
²⁶ But there remained two men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad. And the spirit rested upon them. And they were of those who were written, but had not gone out to the tent. And they prophesied in the camp. ²⁷ And a young man ran and told Moses and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp. ²⁸ And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his chosen men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
²⁹ And Moses said to him, Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all of Jehovah's people were prophets, that Jehovah would put his spirit upon them! ³⁰ And Moses went into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
³¹ And there went forth a wind from Jehovah and brought quails from the sea and let them fall by the camp, about a day's journey on this side and a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp and about two cubits above the face of the earth. ³² And the people rose up all that day and all the night and all the next day and gathered the quails. He who gathered least gathered ten homers. And they spread them all abroad for themselves all around the camp.
³³ While the flesh was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of Jehovah was kindled against the people and Jehovah killed* the people with a very great plague. ³⁴ And the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who lusted. ³⁵ From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed to Hazeroth and they abode at Hazeroth.

¹ And all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried and the people wept that night. ² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. And the whole congregation said to them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt, or would that we had died in this wilderness! ³ And why does Jehovah bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey. Were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
⁴ And they said one to another, Let us make a captain and let us return into Egypt.
⁵ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Israel.
⁶ And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of those who spied out the land, tore their clothes. ⁷ And they spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. ⁸ If Jehovah delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Only do not rebel against Jehovah, neither fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their defense is removed from over them and Jehovah is with us. Fear them not. ¹⁰ But all the congregation commanded, stone them with stones. And the glory of Jehovah appeared in the tent of meeting to all the sons of Israel. ¹¹ And Jehovah said to Moses, How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them? ¹² I will kill* them with the pestilence and disinherit them and will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.
¹³ And Moses said to Jehovah, Then the Egyptians will hear it, for you brought up this people in your might from among them, ¹⁴ and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you Jehovah are in the midst of this people, for you Jehovah are seen face to face and your cloud stands over them and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night. ¹⁵ Now if you will kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying, ¹⁶ Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.
¹⁷ And now, I beseech you, let the power of the Lord be great, just-as you have spoken, saying, ¹⁸ Jehovah is slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons, upon the third and upon the fourth generation. ¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech you, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness and just-as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
²⁰ And Jehovah said, I have pardoned according to your word, ²¹ but in very deed, as I live and as all the earth will be filled with the glory of Jehovah, ²² because all those men who have seen my glory and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have challenged me these ten times and have not listened to my voice, ²³ surely they will not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither will any of them who despised me see it. ²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went and his seed will possess it.
²⁵ Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley. Tomorrow turn and get into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.
²⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ²⁷ How long shall I bear with this evil congregation that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel, which they murmur against me. ²⁸ Say to them, As I live, says Jehovah, surely as you* have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you*. ²⁹ Your* dead bodies will fall in this wilderness. And all who were numbered of you*, according to your* whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me, ³⁰ surely you* will not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you* dwell in it, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
³¹ But your* little ones, that you* said would be a prey, them I will bring in and they will know the land which you* have rejected. ³² But as for you*, your* dead bodies will fall in this wilderness. ³³ And your* sons will be wanderers in the wilderness forty years and will bear your* prostitutions, until your* dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.
³⁴ After the number of the days in which you* spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you* will bear your* iniquities, even forty years and you* will know my alienation. ³⁵ I, Jehovah, have spoken, surely I will do this to all this evil congregation that are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they will be consumed and there they will die.
³⁶ And the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation to murmur against him by bringing up an evil report against the land, ³⁷ even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Jehovah. ³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.
³⁹ And Moses told these words to all the sons of Israel and the people mourned greatly. ⁴⁰ And they rose up early in the morning and got up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we are here and will go up to the place which Jehovah has promised, for we have sinned. ⁴¹ And Moses said, Why do you* now transgress the commandment of Jehovah, seeing it will not prosper? ⁴² Do not go up, for Jehovah is not among you*, that you* are not struck down before your* enemies. ⁴³ For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you* and you* will fall by the sword. Because you* have turned back from following Jehovah, therefore Jehovah will not be with you*.
⁴⁴ But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain, nevertheless the ark of the covenant of Jehovah and Moses, did not depart out of the camp. ⁴⁵ Then the Amalekites came down and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain and killed* them and beat them down, even to Hormah.

¹ Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took, ² and they rose up before Moses, with certain of the sons of Israel, two hundred and fifty rulers of the congregation, called to the assembly, men of renown, ³ and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, You* take too much upon you*, since all the congregation are holy, every one of them and Jehovah is among them. Why then do you* lift up yourselves above the assembly of Jehovah?
⁴ And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face. ⁵ And he spoke to Korah and to all his company, saying, In the morning Jehovah will show who are his and who is holy and will cause him to come near to him, even him whom he will choose will he cause to come near to him.
⁶ This do: You* take censers, Korah and all his company, ⁷ and put fire in them and put incense upon them before Jehovah tomorrow. And it will be that the man whom Jehovah chooses, he is holy. You* take too much upon you*, you* sons of Levi.
⁸ And Moses said to Korah, Hear now, you* sons of Levi. ⁹ Is it a small thing to you*, that the God of Israel has separated you* from the congregation of Israel, to bring you* near to himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah and to stand before the congregation to minister to them, ¹⁰ and that he has brought you near and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you? And you* seek the priesthood also? ¹¹ Therefore you and all your company are gathered together against Jehovah. And Aaron, what is he that you* murmur against him?
¹² And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab. And they said, We will not come up. ¹³ Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but you must make yourself also a ruler over us? ¹⁴ Moreover you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.
¹⁵ And Moses was very angry and said to Jehovah, Do not respect you their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them.
¹⁶ And Moses said to Korah, You and all your company be before Jehovah, you and they and Aaron, tomorrow. ¹⁷ And take you* every man his censer and put incense upon them and bring you* before Jehovah every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers, you also and Aaron, each his censer. ¹⁸ And they took every man his censer and put fire in them and laid incense on it and stood at the door of the tent of meeting with Moses and Aaron. ¹⁹ And Korah assembled all the congregation against them to the door of the tent of meeting. And the glory of Jehovah appeared to all the congregation.
²⁰ And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ²¹ Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. ²² And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, will one man sin and will you be angry with all the congregation?
²³ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁴ Speak to the congregation, saying, You* get up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.
²⁵ And Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram and the elders of Israel followed him. ²⁶ And he spoke to the congregation, saying, Depart, I beseech you*, from the tents of these wicked men and touch nothing of theirs, lest you* are consumed in all their sins. ²⁷ So they got up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, on every side. And Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the door of their tents and their wives and their sons and their little ones.
²⁸ And Moses said, Hereby you* will know that Jehovah has sent me to do all these works, for it is not of my own mind. ²⁹ If these men die the common death of all men, or if they are visited after the visitation of all men, then Jehovah has not sent me. ³⁰ But if Jehovah makes a new thing and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up, with all that pertains to them and they go down alive into Sheol, then you* will understand that these men have despised Jehovah.
³¹ And it happened, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them, ³² and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up and their households and all the men that pertained to Korah and all their goods. ³³ So they and all that pertained to them, went down alive into Sheol. And the earth closed upon them and they perished from among the assembly.
³⁴ And all Israel that were all around them fled at the cry of them, for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up. ³⁵ And fire came out from Jehovah and devoured the two hundred and fifty men who offered the incense.
³⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ³⁷ Speak to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning and scatter you the fire yonder, for they are holy, ³⁸ even the censers of these sinners against their own lives and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar, for they offered them before Jehovah, therefore they are holy and they will be a sign to the sons of Israel.
³⁹ And Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, which those who were burnt had offered and they beat them out for a covering of the altar, ⁴⁰ to be a memorial to the sons of Israel, to the end that no stranger, who is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to burn incense before Jehovah, that he not be as Korah and as his company, as Jehovah spoke to him by Moses.
⁴¹ But on the morrow all the congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, You* have killed the people of Jehovah.
⁴² And it happened, when the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tent of meeting, and behold, the cloud covered it and the glory of Jehovah appeared. ⁴³ And Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting.
⁴⁴ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ⁴⁵ You* get up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. ⁴⁶ And Moses said to Aaron, Take your censer and put fire in it from the altar and lay incense on it and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for there is wrath gone out from Jehovah. The plague has begun.
⁴⁷ And Aaron took as Moses spoke and ran into the midst of the assembly. And behold, the plague had begun among the people. And he put on the incense and made atonement for the people. ⁴⁸ And he stood between the dead and the living and the plague was stopped.
⁴⁹ Now those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides those who died about the matter of Korah. ⁵⁰ And Aaron returned to Moses to the door of the tent of meeting and the plague was stopped.

¹ And Israel abode in Shittim. And the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Moab, ² for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods. And the people ate and bowed-down to their gods. ³ And Israel joined himself to Baal-peor and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.
⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people and hang them up to Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may turn away from Israel. ⁵ And Moses said to the judges of Israel, Kill you* every one his men who have joined themselves to Baal-peor.
⁶ And behold, one of the sons of Israel came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.
⁷ And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation and took a spear in his hand. ⁸ And he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the sons of Israel. ⁹ And those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.
¹⁰ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ¹¹ Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the sons of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the sons of Israel in my jealousy.
¹² Therefore say, Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace. ¹³ And it will be to him and to his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the sons of Israel.
¹⁴ Now the name of the man of Israel who was slain, who was slain with the Midianite woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a ruler of a fathers' house among the Simeonites. ¹⁵ And the name of the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur. He was head of the people of a fathers' house in Midian.
¹⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁷ Distress the Midianites and kill* them, ¹⁸ for they distress you* with their wiles, with which they have beguiled you* in the matter of Peor and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the ruler of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.

¹⁵ And he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.
¹⁶ They also envied Moses in the camp and Aaron the holy ones of Jehovah. ¹⁷ The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan and covered the company of Abiram.
¹⁸ And a fire was kindled in their company. The flame burned up the wicked men.
¹⁹ They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a molten image. ²⁰ Thus they changed their glory for the likeness of an ox that eats grass.
²¹ They forgot God their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, ²² wondrous works in the land of Ham and fearful things by the Red Sea.
²³ Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy.
²⁴ Yes, they despised the desirable land. They did not believe his word, ²⁵ but murmured in their tents and did not listen to the voice of Jehovah.
²⁶ Therefore he swore to them, that he would overthrow them in the wilderness, ²⁷ and that he would overthrow their seed among the nations and scatter them in the lands.
²⁸ They also joined themselves to Baal of Peor and ate the sacrifices of the dead. ²⁹ Thus they provoked him to anger with their practices and the plague broke in upon them.
³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up and executed judgment and so the plague was restrained. ³¹ And that was reckoned to him for righteousness to generation and generation until everlasting.
³² They also angered him at the waters of Meribah, so that it went ill with Moses because of them, ³³ because they were rebellious against his spirit and he spoke ill-advisedly with his lips.
³⁴ They did not destroy the peoples, as Jehovah commanded them, ³⁵ but mingled themselves with the nations and learned their works, ³⁶ and served their idols, which became a snare to them.
³⁷ Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was polluted with blood.
³⁹ Thus they were defiled with their works and played the prostitute in their practices.
⁴⁰ Therefore the wrath of Jehovah was kindled against his people and he detested his inheritance. ⁴¹ And he gave them into the hand of the nations. And those who hated them, ruled over them. ⁴² Their enemies also oppressed them and they were brought into subjection under their hand.
⁴³ Many times he delivered them, but they were rebellious in their counsel and were brought low in their iniquity.
⁴⁴ Nevertheless he regarded their distress when he heard their cry. ⁴⁵ And he remembered his covenant for them and relented according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses. ⁴⁶ He also made them to be pitied by all those who carried them captive.
⁴⁷ Save us, O Jehovah our God and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to your holy name and to triumph in your praise.
⁴⁸ Praise Jehovah, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, Truly. Praise Jehovah.

⁵ Yet God was not delighted in most of them; for they were overthrown in the wilderness. ⁶ Now these things became our examples, that we should not be desirers of evil things, just-as they also lusted. ⁷ Do not become idolaters, just-as some of them were; as it has been written, ‘The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.’ ⁸ Neither should we fornicate, like some of them fornicated, and twenty three thousand fell in one day. ⁹ Nor should we test the Christ, just-as some of them also tested him, and perished by the serpents. ¹⁰ Nor murmur, like some of them also murmured, and perished by the destroyer.

²⁵ And I will bring a sword upon you* that will execute the vengeance of the covenant and you* will be gathered together within your* cities. And I will send the pestilence among you* and you* will be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

³² And all the tithe of the herd or the flock, whatever passes under the rod, the tenth will be holy to Jehovah.

³⁰ If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my ordinances, ³¹ if they break my statutes and do not keep my commandments, ³² then I will visit their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes,

¹³ In the cities of the hill-country, in the cities of the lowland and in the cities of the South and in the land of Benjamin and in the places around Jerusalem and in the cities of Judah, the flocks will again pass under the hands of him who numbers them, says Jehovah.

⁵⁹ For thus says the lord Jehovah: I will also deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant.
⁶⁰ Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth and I will establish to you an everlasting covenant.

¹⁷ And as for you*, O my flock, thus says the lord Jehovah: Behold, I judge between sheep and sheep, the rams and the male-goats.

² You* only I have known of all the families of the earth. Therefore I will visit upon you* all your* iniquities.

³² and all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will be separating them one from another, like the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; ³³ and he will indeed stand the sheep at his right, but the goats at the left.

¹⁶ Jehovah has made himself known. He has executed justice. The wicked man is snared in the work of his own hands. A meditation. Selah.

¹⁴ so that none of the remnant of Judah who have gone into the land of Egypt to journey there, will escape or be left to return into the land of Judah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell there. For none will return except such as will escape.

²¹ But as for those whose heart walks according to the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will bring their way upon their own heads, says the lord Jehovah.

⁹ And my hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who divine lies. They will not be in the council of my people, nor will they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither will they enter into the land of Israel.
And you* will know that I am the lord Jehovah.

⁷ And I will set my face against them. They will go forth from the fire, but the fire will devour them.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah when I set my face against them.

⁴⁹ And they will recompense your* lewdness upon you* and you* will bear the sins of your* idols. And you* will know that I am the lord Jehovah.

¹⁷ And as for you*, O my flock, thus says the lord Jehovah: Behold, I judge between sheep and sheep, the rams and the male-goats.
¹⁸ Does it seem a small thing to you* to have fed upon the good pasture, but you* must tread down with your* feet the residue of your* pasture and to have drunk of the clear waters, but you* must foul the residue with your* feet? ¹⁹ And as for my sheep, they eat what you* have trodden with your* feet and they drink what you* have fouled with your* feet.
²⁰ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah to them: Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. ²¹ Because you* thrust with side and with shoulder and push all the diseased with your* horns, till you* have scattered them abroad, ²² therefore I will save my flock and they will no more be a prey. And I will judge between sheep and sheep.

⁸ And it will happen, that in all the land, says Jehovah, two parts in it will be cut off and die, but the third will be left in it. ⁹ And I will bring the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried. They will call on my name and I will hear them. I will say, It is my people and they will say, Jehovah is my God.

³ And he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver. And he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them as gold and silver. And they will offer to Jehovah offerings in righteousness.

¹ For, behold, the day comes, it burns as a furnace and all the proud and all who work wickedness, will be stubble. And the day that comes will burn them up, says Jehovah of hosts, that it will leave them neither root nor branch.
² But to you* who fear my name the sun of righteousness will arise with healing in its wings and you* will go forth and frolic as calves of the stall. ³ And you* will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your* feet in the day that I make, says Jehovah of hosts.

⁹ Do not think to say among yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able to lift up children out of these stones for Abraham. ¹⁰ But even already, the ax is laid to the root of the trees, because every tree which is not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

¹² whose winnowing fan is in his hand, and he will be thoroughly cleansing his threshing floor, and he will be gathering his grain into the barn, but the chaff he will be burning up with unquenchable fire.

²⁷ Now Isaiah cries on behalf of Israel, ‘If the number of the sons of Israel is like the sand of the sea, only the remnant will be saved; ²⁸ for he is completing and cutting-short the word in righteousness because having been cut-short, the Lord will make the word upon the earth.’ ²⁹ And, just-as Isaiah has said before, ‘If the Lord of Hosts did not leave us a seed, we would have become like Sodom and would have been similar to Gomorrah.’

⁶ Therefore, since it is left for some to enter into it, and those to whom the good-news was proclaimed beforehand did not enter into it because of disobedience,

¹⁴ Go and cry to the gods which you* have chosen. Let them save you* in the time of your* distress.

¹³ Bring no more vain oblations. Incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath, the calling of assemblies–I cannot bear wickedness and the solemn assembly. ¹⁴ Your* new moons and your* appointed feasts my soul hates. They are a trouble to me. I am weary of bearing them.
¹⁵ And when you* spread forth your* hands, I will hide my eyes from you*. Yes, when you* make many prayers, I will not hear; your* hands are full of blood.

³ He who slaughters an ox is as he who kills a man. He who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog's neck. He who offers an oblation, as swine's blood. He who burns frankincense, as he who graces an idol.
Yes, they have chosen their own ways and their soul delights in their abominations.

⁹ Will you* steal, murder and commit adultery and swear falsely and burn incense to Baal and walk after other gods that you* have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name and say, We are delivered, that you* may do all these abominations?
¹¹ Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your* eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, says Jehovah.

²⁵ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel, saying, You* and your* wives have both spoken with your* mouths and with your* hands have fulfilled it, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her. Establish then your* vows and perform your* vows.
²⁶ Therefore hear the word of Jehovah, all Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says Jehovah, that my name will no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, As the lord Jehovah lives.

²⁵ Moreover I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances in which they will not live. ²⁶ And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that opens the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am Jehovah.

³⁷ For they have committed adultery and blood is in their hands. And with their idols they have committed adultery. And they have also caused their sons, whom they bore to me, to pass through the fire for them to be devoured.
³⁸ Moreover they have done this to me: They have defiled my sanctuary in the same day and have profaned my Sabbaths. ³⁹ For when they had slain their sons to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it, and behold, thus they have done in the midst of my house.

⁷ And he said to me, Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the sons of Israel everlasting. And the house of Israel will no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their prostitution and by the dead bodies of their kings in their high places,

¹⁷ Ephraim is joined to idols, let him alone.

⁴ Come to Bethel and transgress, to Gilgal and multiply transgression. And bring your* sacrifices every morning and your* tithes every three days. ⁵ And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of what is leavened and proclaim free-will offerings and proclaim them. For this pleases you*, O you* sons of Israel, says the lord Jehovah.

⁴ And I will stretch out my hand upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place and the names of the idolatrous priest with the pagan priests, ⁵ and those who worship the host of heaven upon the housetops and those who worship, who swear to Jehovah and swear by Malcam,

²⁴ No one is able to serve two lords, for either he will hate the one and will love the other; or he will hold to one and will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and ^{F} money.

¹¹ And because of this, God will be sending them a working of error, that they may believe in the lie;

¹⁵ I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish-that you might be cold or hot. ¹⁶ So because you are lukewarm and not hot nor cold, I am about to puke you out of my mouth.

⁶ Yet I have set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

² And it will happen in the latter days, that the mountain of Jehovah's house will be established on the top of the mountains and will be exalted above the hills and all nations will flow to it. ³ And many peoples will go and say, Come and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the house of the God of Jacob and he will teach us of his ways and we will walk in his paths. For out of Zion will go forth the law and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.

⁷ even them I will bring to my holy mountain and make them joyful in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted upon my altar, for my house will be called a house of prayer for all peoples.

⁷ All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered together to you. The rams of Nebaioth will minister to you. They will come up with acceptance on my altar and I will glorify the house of my glory.

²⁰ And they will bring all your* brothers out of all the nations for an oblation to Jehovah, upon horses and in chariots and in litters and upon mules and upon dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says Jehovah, as the sons of Israel bring their oblation in a clean vessel into the house of Jehovah.

²³ And it will happen, that from one new moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh will come to worship before me, says Jehovah.

¹² And they will come and sing in the height of Zion and will flow to the goodness of Jehovah, to the grain and to the new wine and to the oil and to the young of the flock and of the herd. And their soul will be as a watered garden and they will not sorrow any more at all.

²³ I will plant it in the mountain of the height of Israel and it will bring forth branches and bear fruit and be a majestic cedar. And all birds of every wing will dwell under it; they will dwell in the shade of the branches of it.

²² And I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel and one king will be king to them all. And they will no more be two nations, nor will they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.
²³ Neither will they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions, but I will save them out of all their dwelling-places in which they have sinned and will cleanse them. So they will be my people and I will be their God.
²⁴ And my servant David will be king over them and they all will have one shepherd. They will also walk in my ordinances and observe my statutes and do them. ²⁵ And they will dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant, in which your* fathers dwelt. And they will dwell in it, they and their sons and their son's sons, everlasting. And David my servant will be their ruler everlasting.
²⁶ Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them. It will be an everlasting covenant with them and I will place them and multiply them and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them everlasting. ²⁷ My tabernacle will also be with them and I will be their God and they will be my people.
²⁸ And the nations will know that I am Jehovah, who sanctifies Israel, when my sanctuary will be in the midst of them everlasting.

²⁷ And when they have accomplished the days, it will be that upon the eighth day and forward, the priests will make your* burnt offerings upon the altar and your* peace offerings. And I will accept you*, says the lord Jehovah.

¹⁷ So you* will know that I am Jehovah your* God, dwelling in Zion my holy mountain. Then Jerusalem will be holy and no strangers will pass through her any more.
¹⁸ And it will happen in that day, that the mountains will drop down sweet wine and the hills will flow with milk and all the brooks of Judah will flow with waters. And a fountain will come out from the house of Jehovah and will water the valley of Shittim.

¹⁶ For as you* have drunk upon my holy mountain, so will all the nations drink continually. Yes, they will drink and swallow down and will be as though they had not been.

²⁰ Jehovah of hosts says thus: Peoples will yet come and the inhabitants of many cities. ²¹ And the inhabitants of one city will go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to entreat the favor of Jehovah and to seek Jehovah of hosts. I will go also. ²² Yes, many peoples and strong nations will come to seek Jehovah of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of Jehovah.
²³ Jehovah of hosts says thus: In those days, ten men will take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they will take hold of the skirt of him who is a Jew, saying, We will go with you*, for we have heard that God is with you*.

¹¹ For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same, my name is great among the Gentiles. And in every place incense is offered to my name and a pure offering. For my name is great among the Gentiles, says Jehovah of hosts.

⁴ Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to Jehovah, as in the days of old and as in ancient years.

²⁰ For they were not carrying out what was ordered, ‘Even if a beast might touch the mountain, it will be stoned.’ ²¹ And so fearful was the manifestation, that Moses said, ‘I am fearful and trembling. ²² But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem, and to tens of thousands of messengers,

¹⁵ Therefore, let us always offer up a sacrifice of praising through him to God, that is, the fruit of our lips confessing in his name.

⁵ You, yourselves, like living stones, are also built up as a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

¹ And a great sign was seen in heaven, a woman having been dressed with the sun and the moon underneath her feet and upon her head a crown of twelve stars;

Ephraim will not envy Judah and Judah will not besiege Ephraim. ¹⁴ And they will fly down upon the shoulder of the Philistines on the west. Together they will despoil the sons of the east. They will put forth their hand upon Edom and Moab and the sons of Ammon will obey them.
¹⁵ And Jehovah will utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea. And with his scorching wind he will wave his hand over the River and will kill* it into seven streams and cause men to march over dry shod. ¹⁶ And there will be a highway for the remnant of his people, who will remain, from Assyria, like as there was for Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

³ And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them again to their folds and they will be fruitful and multiply.

³ For behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will turn again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, says Jehovah and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers and they will possess it.

¹⁸ Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will turn again the captivity of Jacob's tents and have compassion on his dwelling-places. And the city will be built upon its own hill and the palace will be inhabited after its own manner.

³⁷ Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries where I have driven them in my anger and in my wrath and in great indignation. And I will bring them again to this place and I will cause them to dwell safely.

¹⁷ Therefore say, The lord Jehovah says thus. I will gather you* from the peoples and assemble you* out of the countries where you* have been scattered and I will give you* the land of Israel.

²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land, which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill and every thick tree and they offered there their sacrifices and there they presented the provocation of their offering. There also they made their sweet aroma and they poured out there their drink offerings.

²² and say, The lord Jehovah says thus: Behold, I am against you, O Sidon. And I will be glorified in the midst of you.
And they will know that I am Jehovah, when I will have executed judgments in her and will be made holy in her.

²⁵ The lord Jehovah says thus: When I will have gathered the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered and will be made holy in them in the sight of the nations, then they will dwell in their own land which I gave to my servant Jacob.

¹⁹ And as for my sheep, they eat what you* have trodden with your* feet and they drink what you* have fouled with your* feet.

²³ And I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you* have profaned in the midst of them.
And the nations will know that I am Jehovah, says the lord Jehovah, when I will be made holy in you* before their eyes.
²⁴ For I will take you* from among the nations and gather you* out of all the countries and will bring you* into your* own land.

²⁵ And they will dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant, in which your* fathers dwelt. And they will dwell in it, they and their sons and their son's sons, everlasting. And David my servant will be their ruler everlasting.

²³ And I will magnify myself and sanctify myself and I will make myself known in the eyes of many nations. And they will know that I am Jehovah.

²⁷ when I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them out of their enemies' lands and am made holy in them in the sight of many nations.
²⁸ And they will know that I am Jehovah their God, in that I caused them to go into captivity among the nations and have gathered them to their own land. And I will leave none of them any more there, ²⁹ nor will I hide my face any more from them. For I have poured out my Spirit upon the house of Israel, says the lord Jehovah.

¹⁴ And I will bring back the captivity of my people Israel and they will build the waste cities and inhabit them and they will plant vineyards and drink the wine of it. They will also make gardens and eat the fruit of them.

¹⁷ But in Mount Zion there will be those who escape and it will be holy and the house of Jacob will possess their possessions. ¹⁸ And the house of Jacob will be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame and the house of Esau for stubble. And they will burn among them and devour them and there will not be any remaining to the house of Esau, for Jehovah has spoken it.
¹⁹ And those of the South will possess the mountain of Esau and those of the lowland the Philistines. And they will possess the field of Ephraim and the field of Samaria and Benjamin will possess Gilead.
²⁰ And the captives of this host of the sons of Israel, who are among the Canaanites, will possess even to Zarephath. And the captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the cities of the South. ²¹ And saviors will come up on Mount Zion to judge the mountain of Esau and the kingdom will be Jehovah's.

¹² In that day they will come to you from Assyria and the cities of Egypt and from Egypt even to the River and from sea to sea and mountain to mountain. ¹³ Yet the land will be desolate because of those who dwell in it, for the fruit of their practices.
¹⁴ Feed your people with your rod, the flock of your heritage, which dwell solitarily in the forest in the midst of Carmel. Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old. ¹⁵ As in the days of your coming forth out of the land of Egypt I will show marvelous things to them.
¹⁶ The nations will see and be ashamed of all their might. They will lay their hand upon their mouth. Their ears will be deaf.

¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, and peace upon earth, in men–delight.

² and walk in love, just-as the Christ also loved us and gave himself up on our behalf as an offering and a sacrifice to God for an aroma of a sweet-fragrance.

¹⁸ But I have all things, and I am abounding. I have been filled, having accepted from Epaphroditus the things which came from you, an aroma of a sweet-fragrance, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.

¹⁵ but make the Lord God holy in your hearts, and be ready habitually with a defense to everyone who is asking you for a reason concerning the hope which is in you, with meekness and fear;

⁷ And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am Jehovah. And they will be my people and I will be their God, for they will return to me with their whole heart.

³⁴ And they will teach no more every man his neighbor and every man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah, for they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says Jehovah. For I will forgive their iniquity and I will remember their sin no more.

I will gather you* from the peoples and assemble you* out of the countries where you* have been scattered and I will give you* the land of Israel. ¹⁸ And they will come there and they will take away from there all the detestable things of it and all the abominations of it.
¹⁹ And I will give them one heart and I will put a new spirit within you*. And I will take the stony heart out of their flesh and will give them a heart of flesh, ²⁰ that they may walk in my statutes and keep my ordinances and do them. And they will be my people and I will be their God.

⁴⁴ And you* will know that I am Jehovah when I have dealt with you* for my name's sake, not according to your* evil ways, nor according to your* corrupt practices, O you* house of Israel, says the lord Jehovah.

²⁴ Thus Ezekiel will be to you* a sign, according to all that he has done you* will do.
When this comes, then you* will know that I am the lord Jehovah.

¹³ And I will cause the roar of your songs to cease and the sound of your harps will no more be heard.

¹³ And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them upon the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses and in all the inhabited places of the country.

²¹ And say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone and will gather them on every side and bring them into their own land.

³ But this is everlasting life, in order that they should know you, the only true God, and Jesus the Christ, whom you sent.

²⁰ Now we know that the Son of God has come and has given us perception, in order that we might know the true one and we are in the true one, that is, in his son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God and the everlasting life.

³⁹ And those who are left of you* will pine away in their iniquity in your* enemies' lands and also in the iniquities of their fathers they will pine away with them.
⁴⁰ And they will confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me and also that, because they walked contrary to me, ⁴¹ I also walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies. If then their uncircumcised heart be humbled and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity,

⁸ Remember, I beseech you, the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, If you* trespass, I will scatter you* abroad among the peoples, ⁹ but if you* return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your* outcasts were in the outermost part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there and will bring them to the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there.
¹⁰ Now these are your servants and your people whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.

⁶ Therefore I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim sympathize within himself saying, You have disciplined me and I was disciplined as a calf unaccustomed to the yoke. Turn me back and I will be turned back, for you are Jehovah my God.

⁶¹ Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed, when you will receive your sisters, your elder sisters and your younger and I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant.
⁶² And I will establish my covenant with you and you will know that I am Jehovah, ⁶³ that you may remember and be confounded and never open your mouth any more, because of your shame, when I have forgiven you all that you have done, says the lord Jehovah.

³¹ Then you* will remember your* evil ways and your* practices that were not good. And you* will loathe yourselves in your* own sight for your* iniquities and for your* abominations.

¹⁵ I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offense and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.

¹⁰ And I will pour upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication. And they will look to me whom they have pierced. And they will mourn for him, as a man mourns for his only son and will be in bitterness for him, as a man who is in bitterness for his firstborn.
¹¹ In that day there will be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddo. ¹² And the land will mourn, every family apart, the family of the house of David apart and their wives apart, the family of the house of Nathan apart and their wives apart, ¹³ the family of the house of Levi apart and their wives apart, the Shimeite family apart and their wives apart, ¹⁴ all the families that remain, every family apart and their wives apart.

¹³ And the tax collector, standing from afar, was not even willing to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his chest, saying, God, be lenient to me, the sinner.

¹¹ For behold how much diligence this same thing, (your being sorrowful according to the will of God), has worked in you : but what a defense, but what indignation, but what fear, but what longing, but what zeal, but what vengeance! In everything you commended yourselves to be pure in the matter.

⁹ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name. And deliver us and forgive our sins, for your name's sake.

¹⁶ But I was shown-mercy because of this, in order that Jesus Christ might show all his patience in me as foremost, for a pattern of those who are afterward about to believe on him for everlasting life.

² My doctrine will drop as the rain. My speech will flow as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender grass and as the showers upon the herb.

²² After my words they spoke not again and my speech distilled upon them.

⁶ The burden of the beasts of the South.
Through the land of trouble and anguish, from where come the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches upon the shoulders of young donkeys and their treasures upon the humps of camels, to a people who will not profit them.

¹⁹ The cities of the South are shut up and there is none to open them. Judah is carried away captive, all of it. It is entirely carried away captive.

⁷ And I will prepare destroyers against you, each one with his weapons and they will cut down your choice cedars and cast them into the fire.

⁷ And you will set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem, with your arm uncovered and you will prophesy against it.

² Son of man, set your face toward the mountains of Israel and prophesy to them,

² Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem and drop your word toward the sanctuaries and prophesy against the land of Israel.

¹⁶ Now therefore hear the word of Jehovah: You say, Do not prophesy against Israel and do not drop your word against the house of Isaac.

⁶ Prophesy you* not, they prophesy. They will not prophesy to these, so reproaches will not depart.

¹ Open your doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour your cedars. ² Wail, O fir tree, for the cedar has fallen, because the fine ones are destroyed. Wail, O you* oaks of Bashan, for the strong forest has come down.

²² For a fire is kindled in my anger and burns to the lowest Sheol and devours the earth with its increase and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.

¹⁸ For wickedness burns as the fire. It devours the briers and thorns. Yes, it kindles in the thickets of the forest and they roll upward in a column of smoke. ¹⁹ Through the wrath of Jehovah of hosts is the land burnt up and the people are as the fuel of fire; no man spares his brother.

⁸ And they will be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows will take hold. They will be in pain as a woman in travail. They will look in amazement one at another, their faces, faces of flame.

¹ Behold, Jehovah makes the earth empty and makes it waste and turns it upside down and scatters abroad the inhabitants of it. ² And it will be, as with the people, so with the priest, as with the servant, so with his master, as with the maid, so with her mistress, as with the buyer, so with the seller, as with the creditor, so with the debtor, as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest to him. ³ The earth will be utterly emptied and utterly laid waste, for Jehovah has spoken this word. ⁴ The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish.
⁵ The earth also is polluted under the inhabitants of it, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant.
⁶ Therefore the curse has devoured the earth and those who dwell in it are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned and few men left.

³³ For a Topheth is prepared of old, yes, it is made ready for the king. He has made it deep and large. The pile of it is fire and much wood. The breath of Jehovah kindles it, like a stream of brimstone.

²⁴ And they will go forth and look upon the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me. For their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched and they will be an abhorring to all flesh.

¹⁴ And I will punish you* according to the fruit of your* practices, says Jehovah. And I will kindle a fire in her forest and it will devour all that is all around her.

⁶ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so I will give the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ⁷ And I will set my face against them. They will go forth from the fire, but the fire will devour them.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah when I set my face against them.

²⁴ And all the trees of the field will know that I, Jehovah, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree and have made the dry tree to flourish. I, Jehovah, have spoken and have done it.

¹⁴ And fire has gone out of the twigs of its branches. It has devoured its fruit, so that there is no strong twig in it to be a scepter to rule. This is a lamentation and will be for a lamentation.

³ And say to the land of Israel, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I am against you. And will draw forth my sword out of its sheath and will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked.
⁴ Seeing then that I will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked, therefore my sword will go forth out of its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north.

²⁰ as they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt it. So I will gather you* in my anger and in my wrath and I will lay you* there and melt you*. ²¹ Yes, I will gather you* and blow upon you* with the fire of my wrath and you* will be melted in the midst of it.

⁴³ And if your hand offends you, cut it off. It is good for you to enter into life crippled, rather than having your two hands, and to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire, ⁴⁴ where a maggot of them is not dead and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁵ And if your foot offends you, cut it off. It is good for you to enter into life lame, rather than having your two feet, and to be cast into hell, into the unquenchable fire, ⁴⁶ where a maggot is not dead and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁷ And if your eye offends you, cast it out. It is good for you to enter into the kingdom of God one-eyed, rather than having two eyes, and to be cast into the hell of fire, ⁴⁸ where a maggot of them is not dying and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁹ For everyone will be salted with fire and every sacrifice will be salted with salt.

³¹ Because if they are doing these things in the green tree, what might happen in the dry?

²⁴ even all the nations will say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land? What is the meaning of the heat of this great anger?
²⁵ Then men will say, Because they forsook the covenant of Jehovah, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, ²⁶ and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they did not know and that he had not given to them. ²⁷ Therefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book. ²⁸ And Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger and in wrath and in great indignation and cast them into another land, as at this day.

²⁰ then I will pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them. And this house, which I have made holy for my name, I will cast out of my sight and I will make it a proverb and a parable among all peoples.
²¹ And this house, which is so high, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land and to this house? ²² And they will answer, Because they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them forth out of the land of Egypt and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them; therefore he has brought all this evil upon them.

¹¹ Jehovah, your hand is lifted up, yet they do not see. But they will see your zeal for the people and be put to shame. Yes, fire will devour your adversaries.

²⁰ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out upon this place, upon man and upon beast and upon the trees of the field and upon the fruit of the ground. And it will burn and will not be quenched.

² And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, Jehovah your God pronounced this evil upon this place, ³ and Jehovah has brought it and done just-as he spoke. Because you* have sinned against Jehovah and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing has come upon you*.

¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you. They hiss and gnash the teeth. They say, We have swallowed her up. Certainly this is the day that we looked for. We have found, we have seen it.
¹⁷ Jehovah has done what he purposed. He has fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of long-ago. He has thrown down and has not pitied. And he has caused the enemy to rejoice over you. He has exalted the horn of your adversaries.

² Son of man, put forth a riddle and speak a parable to the house of Israel,

¹³ Because of this, I speak to them in parables, because seeing, they do not see, and hearing, they do not hear, nor do they understand. ¹⁴ And the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled in them, which says, ‘In hearing you will hear and may never understand, and seeing you will see and may never know;

²⁵ I have spoken these things to you in metaphors, but the hour is coming, when I will no more be speaking to you in metaphors, but will be proclaiming to you frankly concerning the Father.

¹⁸ Now also some of the Epicureans and Stoic philosophers were encountering him and some were saying, Whatever does this babbler wish to say?
Some said, He seems to be a proclaimer of strange demons, because he is proclaiming the good-news of Jesus and the resurrection.
