²⁰ And if a man slays his servant, or his maid, with a rod and he dies under his hand, he will surely be punished.

¹⁵ And Jehovah said to him, Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold. And Jehovah appointed a sign for Cain, so that anyone who found him should not kill* him.

²⁴ If Cain will be avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times.

⁶ Whoever sheds man's blood, his blood will be shed by man. For in the image of God he made man.

²⁶ And if a man slays the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid and destroys it, he will let him go free for his eye's sake. ²⁷ And if he knocks out his man-servant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth, he will let him go free for his tooth's sake.

¹⁹ The avenger of blood will himself put the murderer to death. When he meets him, he will put him to death.

³⁰ Whoever kills any person, the murderer will be slain at the mouth of witnesses, but one witness will not testify against any person so that he dies. ³¹ Moreover you* will take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he will surely be put to death. ³² And you* will take no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
³³ So you* will not pollute the land in which you* are, for blood, it pollutes the land. And no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him who shed it.

²¹ And your eyes will not pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

¹⁹ A servant will not be disciplined by words, because though he understands, he will not give heed.

³ Why have we fasted, they say and you do not see? We have afflicted our soul and you take no knowledge. Behold, in the day of your* fast you* find pleasure and exact from all your* laborers. ⁴ Behold, you* fast for strife and contention and to kill* with the fist of wickedness. You* do not fast this day so as to make your* voice to be heard on high.

⁴ for he is a servant of God to you for what is the good thing. But if you practice what is the evil thing, be afraid; for he is not wearing the sword vainly; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to the one who is practicing the evil thing.
