² And when they were departed from Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness and there Israel encamped before the mountain.

¹ Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the wilderness and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.

¹² And he said, I will certainly be with you. And this will be the sign to you, that I have sent you: When you have brought out the people out of Egypt, you* will serve God upon this mountain.

¹ And all the congregation of the sons of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to the commandment of Jehovah and encamped in Rephidim. And there was no water for the people to drink.

⁸ Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

⁵ And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife to Moses into the wilderness where he was encamped, at the mountain of God.

³⁰ Now when forty years were fulfilled, a messenger of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire from a bush.

³⁸ This is he who came to be in the congregation in the wilderness with the messenger who spoke to him on Mount Sinai and from our fathers. This is he who accepted the living word to give to us;

²⁴ Which things are allegorized; for these women are two covenants; indeed one from Mount Sinai, who is Hagar, giving-birth to children into bondage.
