⁵ If brothers dwell together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead man will not be married outside to a stranger. Her husband's brother will go in to her and take her to him as a wife and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her.

⁸ And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her and raise up seed to your brother.
⁹ And Onan knew that the seed would not be his. And it happened, when he went in to his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.

⁵ Then Boaz said, That day you buy the field of the hand of Naomi, you must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

²⁴ saying, Teacher, Moses said, If anyone dies, having no children, his brother will marry his wife and will be raising up seed to his brother.

¹⁹ Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If anyone’s brother dies and if he leaves a wife behind him and if he leaves no child, that his brother should take his wife and should raise up seed to his brother.
