¹ And it happened, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of Jehovah. ² And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household and Shebna the scribe and the elders of the priests (covered with sackcloth) to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
³ And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble and of rebuke and of blasphemy, for the sons have come to the birth and there is no strength to bring forth. ⁴ It may be that Jehovah your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God and will rebuke the words which Jehovah your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left. ⁵ So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
⁶ And Isaiah said to them, Thus you* will say to your* master, Jehovah says thus, Do not be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. ⁷ Behold, I will put a spirit in him and he will hear news and will return to his own land. And I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
⁸ So Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah, for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
⁹ And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he comes out to fight against you, he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying, ¹⁰ Thus will you* speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. ¹¹ Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. And will you be delivered?
¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph and the sons of Eden that were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath and the king of Arpad and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena and Ivvah?
¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. And Hezekiah went up to the house of Jehovah and spread it before Jehovah. ¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed before Jehovah and said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, who sits above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. ¹⁶ Incline your ear, O Jehovah and hear. Open your eyes, O Jehovah and see. And hear the words of Sennacherib, with which he has sent for him to defy the living God.
¹⁷ Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands, ¹⁸ and have cast their gods into the fire, for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them. ¹⁹ Now therefore, O Jehovah our God, I beseech you, save us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you Jehovah are God alone.
²⁰ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, You have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard. ²¹ This is the word that Jehovah has spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and laughed you to scorn. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you. ²² Whom have you defied and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel.
²³ By your messengers you have defied the Lord and have said, With the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon. And I will cut down the tall cedars of it and the choice fir trees of it. And I will enter into his farthest lodging-place, the forest of his fruitful field. ²⁴ I have dug and drunk strange waters and with the sole of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt.
²⁵ Have you not heard how I have done it from afar and formed it of times long-ago? Now I have made it occur, that you should be to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps. ²⁶ Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded. They were as the grass of the field and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops and as grain blasted before it is grown up.
²⁷ But I know your sitting down and your going out and your coming in and your raging against me. ²⁸ Because of your raging against me and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.
²⁹ And this will be the sign to you: You* will eat this year what grows of itself and in the second year what springs of the same. And in the third year sow you* and reap and plant vineyards and eat the fruit of it. ³⁰ And the remnant that has escaped from the house of Judah will again take root downward and bear fruit upward. ³¹ For out of Jerusalem will go forth a remnant and out of Mount Zion those who will escape. The zeal of Jehovah will perform this.
³² Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning the king of Assyria, He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it. ³³ By the way that he came, by the same will he return and he will not come to this city, says Jehovah. ³⁴ For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.
³⁵ And it happened that night, that the messenger of Jehovah went forth and killed* in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred eighty-five thousand. And when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.
³⁶ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went and returned and dwelt at Nineveh. ³⁷ And it happened, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer killed* him with the sword and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned instead of him.

³⁴ And Jacob tore his garments and put sackcloth upon his loins and mourned for his son many days.

¹² And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army and came to Shiloh the same day, with his clothes torn and with dirt upon his head.

²⁷ And it happened, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth upon his flesh and fasted and lay in sackcloth and went softly.

²⁹ You see how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days, but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.

⁷ And it happened, when the King of Israel had read the letter, that he tore his clothes and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But consider, I beseech you* and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.

³⁰ And it happened, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he tore his clothes (now he was passing by upon the wall). And the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth inside upon his flesh.

³⁷ Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household and Shebna the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

¹⁵ Now my eyes will be open and my ears attend to the prayer that is made in this place. ¹⁶ For now I have chosen and made this house holy, that my name may be there until everlasting and my eyes and my heart will be there perpetually.

²⁰ And Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried out to heaven. ²¹ And Jehovah sent a messenger who cut off all the mighty men of valor and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, those who came out from his own guts killed him there with the sword.
²² Thus Jehovah saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others and guided them on every side.

³ And when I heard this thing, I tore my garment and my robe and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard and sat down confounded.

¹ Now when Mordecai knew all that was done, Mordecai tore his clothes and put on sackcloth with ashes and went out into the midst of the city and cried with a loud and a bitter cry. ² And he came even before the king's gate, for none might enter inside the king's gate clothed with sackcloth.
³ And in every province, wherever the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews and fasting and weeping and wailing and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
⁴ And Esther's maidens and her eunuchs came and told it to her. And the queen was exceedingly grieved. And she sent garments to clothe Mordecai and to take his sackcloth from him, but he did not receive it.

²⁰ Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell down upon the ground and worshiped. ²¹ And he said, Naked I came out of my mother's womb and naked I will return there. Jehovah gave and Jehovah has taken away, praise the name of Jehovah.

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting and my prayer returned into my own bosom.

²⁴ And they were not afraid, nor tore their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words.

⁸ but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn each one from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.

²¹ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the miracles had happened in Tyre and Sidon which have happened in you, they would have repented long-ago in sackcloth and ashes.

⁶⁵ Then the high-priest ripped his garments, saying, He has blasphemed. Why do we still have need of witnesses? Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy.

¹⁸ And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household and Shebnah the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

¹³ Go you*, inquire of Jehovah for me and for the people and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found, for great is the wrath of Jehovah that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book to do according to all what is written concerning us.
¹⁴ So Hilkiah the priest and Ahikam and Achbor and Shaphan and Asaiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter) and they spoke with her.

²² Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, wrote.

¹ The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

¹ The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

⁵ So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

¹⁴ in order that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, saying,

⁴ as it has been written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord. Make^*\'b0 his paths straight.

²⁹ Thus says the king, Do not let Hezekiah deceive you*, for he will not be able to deliver you* out of his hand.

¹¹ When you have disciplined a man with rebukes for iniquity, you make his desires to disintegrate like a moth. Surely every man is vanity. Selah.

⁸ Harden not your* heart, as in the provocation, as the day of trial in the wilderness,

³ Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us, because we are exceedingly filled with contempt. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease and with the contempt of the proud.

¹⁷ As a woman with child, who draws near the time of her delivery, is in pain and cries out in her pangs, so we have been before you, O Jehovah. ¹⁸ We have been with child. We have been in pain. We have as it were brought out wind. We have not worked any deliverance in the earth, nor have the inhabitants of the world fallen.

⁹ Shall I bring to the birth and not cause to bring forth? says Jehovah. Shall I who cause to bring forth shut the womb? says your God.

⁵ For Jehovah says thus: We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear and not of peace. ⁶ Ask you* now and see whether a man travails with child. Why do I see every man with his hands on his loins as a woman in travail and all faces are turned into paleness? ⁷ Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it. It is even the time of Jacob's trouble, but he will be saved out of it.

¹⁵ I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offense and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.

¹³ The sorrows of a travailing woman will come upon him. He is an unwise son, for it is time he should not abide in the place of the breaking forth of sons.

¹⁵ while it is said, ‘If you hear his voice today, do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion.’ ¹⁶ For some who had heard it rebelled. But was it not all those who came out of Egypt through Moses?

¹⁴ And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh. As it is said to this day, It will be provided in the mountain of Jehovah.

³⁶ For Jehovah will judge his people and regrets for his servants, when he sees that their power has gone and there is none remaining, shut up or left at large.

¹² Now therefore give me this hill-country of which Jehovah spoke in that day. For you heard in that day how the Anakim were there and cities great and fortified. It may be that Jehovah will be with me and I will drive them out, as Jehovah spoke.

⁶ And Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, Come and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that Jehovah will work for us, for there is no limitation to Jehovah to save by many or by few.

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

¹² It may be that Jehovah will look on the wrong done to me and that Jehovah will reward me good for his cursing of me this day.

⁵ Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land and went up to Samaria and besieged it three years. ⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria and placed them in Halak and on the Habor, the river of Gozan and in the cities of the Medes.

¹³ Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.

¹⁷ And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they came up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is on the highway of the launder's field. ¹⁸ And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household and Shebnah the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
¹⁹ And Rabshakeh said to them, Say you* now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this in which you trust? ²⁰ You say (but they are but vain words), There is counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom do you trust that you have rebelled against me? ²¹ Now, behold, you trust upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man leans it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh King of Egypt to all who trust on him.
²² But if you* say to me, We trust in Jehovah our God, is that not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, You* will worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
²³ Now therefore, I beseech you, give pledges to my master the king of Assyria and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders upon them. ²⁴ How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen? ²⁵ Have I now come up without Jehovah against this place to destroy it? Jehovah said to me, Go up against this land and destroy it.
²⁶ Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah and Shebnah and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, I beseech you, speak to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. And do not speak with us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people who are on the wall. ²⁷ But Rabshakeh said to them, Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Has he not sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own manure and to drink their own urine with you*?
²⁸ Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language and spoke, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria. ²⁹ Thus says the king, Do not let Hezekiah deceive you*, for he will not be able to deliver you* out of his hand. ³⁰ Neither let Hezekiah make you* trust in Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will surely deliver us and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
³¹ Do not listen to Hezekiah. For thus says the king of Assyria, Make your* peace with me and come out to me. And eat you* every man of his vine and every man of his fig tree and drink you* every man the waters of his own cistern, ³² until I come and take away to a land like your* own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you* may live and not die. And do not listen to Hezekiah when he persuades you*, saying, Jehovah will deliver us.
³³ Have any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? ³⁴ Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? ³⁵ Who are they among all the gods of the countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

²² Whom have you defied and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel.

⁵ Therefore Jehovah his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria. And they killed* him and carried away of his a great multitude of captives and brought them to Damascus.
And he was also delivered into the hand of the King of Israel, who killed* him with a great slaughter. ⁶ For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men, because they had forsaken Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

²⁰ And Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried out to heaven.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you will glorify me.

²¹ These things you have done and I kept silence. You thought that I was altogether such a one as yourself. But I will reprove you and set them in order before your eyes.

¹⁸ Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O Jehovah and that a foolish people has blasphemed your name.

⁹ Unless Jehovah of hosts had left to us a seed, we should have been as Sodom, we should have been like Gomorrah.

⁷ now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up upon them the waters of the River, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it will come up over all its channels and go over all its banks, ⁸ and it will sweep onward into Judah. It will overflow and pass through; it will reach even to the neck. And the stretching out of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

⁶ I will send him against a profane nation and against the people of my wrath. I will give him a charge, to take the spoil and to take the prey and to tread them down like the mud of the streets.

³ Call to me and I will answer you and will show you great things and difficult, which you do not know.

³⁷ The lord Jehovah says thus: For this, moreover, I will be inquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them. I will increase them with men like a flock.

²⁷ Now Isaiah cries on behalf of Israel, ‘If the number of the sons of Israel is like the sand of the sea, only the remnant will be saved;

¹⁶ Therefore confess your trespasses to one another, and pray on behalf of one another, that you may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man prevails; much in its working. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man of like-feelings to us and he prayed with much prayer that it might not rain, and it did not rain upon the land for three years and six months.

¹³ And Moses said to the people, Do not fear. Stand still and see the salvation of Jehovah, which he will work for you* today, because the Egyptians whom you* have seen today, you* will see them again everlasting.

⁸ And five of you* will chase a hundred and a hundred of you* will chase ten thousand and your* enemies will fall before you* by the sword.

¹ When you go forth to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots, and a people more than you, you will not be afraid of them, for Jehovah your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

³ and will say to them, Hear, O Israel, you* draw near this day to battle against your* enemies. Do not let your* heart faint. Do not fear, nor tremble, neither be you* frightened at them. ⁴ For Jehovah your* God is he who goes with you*, to fight for you* against your* enemies, to save you*.

⁶ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow at this time I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You will hock their horses and burn their chariots with fire.

¹⁶ And he answered, Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.

¹⁵ And he said, Listen, all Judah and you* inhabitants of Jerusalem and you king Jehoshaphat. Thus Jehovah says to you*, Do not fear, neither be dismayed because of this great multitude. For the battle is not yours*, but God's.

¹⁷ You* will not need to fight in this battle. Set yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of Jehovah with you*, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear, nor be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, for Jehovah is with you*.

²³ Do not forget not the voice of your adversaries. The tumult of those who rise up against you ascends continually.

²¹ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, Because you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, ²² this is the word which Jehovah has spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and laughed you to scorn. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.
²³ Whom have you defied and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel.
²⁴ You have defied the Lord by your servants and have said, I have come up to the height of the mountains with the multitude of my chariots, to the innermost parts of Lebanon. And I will cut down the tall cedars of it and the choice fir trees of it and I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field. ²⁵ I have dug and drunk water and with the sole of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt.
²⁶ Have you not heard how I have done it from afar and formed it of long-ago? Now I have made it occur, that it should be your to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps. ²⁷ Therefore their inhabitants were of small power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were as the grass of the field and as the green herb. As the grass on the housetops and as a field of grain before it is grown up.
²⁸ But I know your sitting down and your going out and your coming in and your raging against me. ²⁹ Because of your raging against me and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.
³⁰ And this will be the sign to you. You* will eat this year what grows of itself and in the second year what springs of the same and in the third year sow you* and reap and plant vineyards and eat the fruit of it. ³¹ And the remnant that has escaped from the house of Judah will again take root downward and bear fruit upward. ³² For out of Jerusalem will go forth a remnant and out of Mount Zion those who will escape. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.
³³ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning the king of Assyria, He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there. Neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it. ³⁴ By the way that he came, he will return by the same and he will not come to this city, says Jehovah. ³⁵ For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.
³⁶ And the messenger of Jehovah went forth and killed* in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went and returned and dwelt at Nineveh.
³⁸ And it happened, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons killed* him with the sword and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned instead of him.

¹⁰ Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
¹¹ 1 Behold, all those who are incensed against you will be put to shame and confounded. Those who strive with you will be as nothing and will perish. ¹² You will seek them and will not find them, even those who contend with you. Those who war against you will be as nothing and as a thing of nothing. ¹³ For I, Jehovah your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, Do not fear, I will help you.
¹⁴ Do not fear, you worm Jacob and you* men of Israel. I will help you, says Jehovah and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

⁷ Listen to me, you* who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law. Do not fear the reproach of men, nor be you* dismayed at their revilings.

¹² I, even I, am he who comforts you*. Who are you, that you are afraid of man who will die and of the son of man who will be made as grass, ¹³ and have forgotten Jehovah your maker, who stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth and fear continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he makes ready to destroy? And where is the fury of the oppressor?

⁶ And he opened his mouth to blaspheme toward God, to blaspheme his name and his tabernacle, and blaspheme those who are residing in the heaven.

⁶ For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great army. And they said one to another, Behold, the King of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

³⁵ And it happened that night, that the messenger of Jehovah went forth and killed* in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred eighty-five thousand. And when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

²¹ And Jehovah sent a messenger who cut off all the mighty men of valor and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, those who came out from his own guts killed him there with the sword.

⁹ By the breath of God they perish and by the blast of his anger they are consumed.

²¹ Sound of terrors is in his ears. In prosperity the destroyer will come upon him.

⁶ He will rain snares upon sinners. Fire and brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup.

¹⁴ And he sent out his arrows and scattered them, Yes, lightnings shot out and confused them.
¹⁵ Then the channels of waters appeared and the foundations of the world were laid bare at your rebuke, O Jehovah, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.

³ Our God comes and does not keep silence. A fire devours before him and it whirlwinds much all around him.

¹⁶ Therefore will the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, send among his fat ones, leanness and under his glory there will be kindled a burning like the burning of fire. ¹⁷ And the light of Israel will be for a fire and his Holy One for a flame and it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day. ¹⁸ And he will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, both soul and body. And it will be as when a standard-bearer faints.

⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor and decide with equity for the meek of the earth.
And he will kill* the earth with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

¹⁴ I have heard news from Jehovah. And an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, Gather yourselves together and come against her and rise up to the battle.

¹ Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon and against those who dwell in Leb-kamai, a destroying wind.

⁴⁶ And do not let your* heart faint. Neither fear for the news that will be heard in the land. For news will come one year and after that in another year, news and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

¹ The vision of Obadiah. The lord Jehovah says thus concerning Edom: We have heard news from Jehovah and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, Arise and let us rise up against her in battle.

²⁹ And Joshua passed from Makkedah and all Israel with him, to Libnah and fought against Libnah.

¹¹ the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;

¹⁵ the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;

³⁹ Lachish and Bozkath and Eglon,

⁴² Libnah and Ether and Ashan,

²² So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.

¹⁴ And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended. Return from me. What you put on me I will bear. And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talants of silver and thirty talants of gold.

⁸ So Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah, for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish. ⁹ And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He has come out to fight against you. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

¹³ Bind the chariot to the swift steed, O inhabitant of Lachish. She was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion, for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.

²⁷ But there came a messenger to Saul, saying, You hasten and come, for the Philistines have made a raid upon the land.

⁹ And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He has come out to fight against you. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

⁵ He trusted in Jehovah, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him.

²⁹ Thus says the king, Do not let Hezekiah deceive you*, for he will not be able to deliver you* out of his hand. ³⁰ Neither let Hezekiah make you* trust in Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will surely deliver us and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

¹⁵ Now therefore do not let Hezekiah deceive you*, nor persuade you* after this manner, neither believe him. For no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your* God deliver you* out of my hand?
¹⁶ And his servants spoke yet more against Jehovah God and against his servant Hezekiah. ¹⁷ He also wrote letters, to rail on Jehovah, the God of Israel and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so will the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.
¹⁸ And they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to trouble them, that they might take the city. ¹⁹ And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men's hands.

¹⁰ Thus will you* speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. ¹¹ Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. And will you be delivered?
¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph and the sons of Eden who were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath and the king of Arpad and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena and Ivvah?
¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. And Hezekiah went up to the house of Jehovah and spread it before Jehovah.

⁵ Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land and went up to Samaria and besieged it three years. ⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria and placed them in Halak and on the Habor, the river of Gozan and in the cities of the Medes.
⁷ And it was so, because the sons of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh King of Egypt and had feared other gods, ⁸ and walked in the statutes of the nations, whom Jehovah cast out from before the sons of Israel and of the kings of Israel, which they made.
⁹ And the sons of Israel did things secretly that were not right against Jehovah their God. And they built for them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city. ¹⁰ And they set up for them pillars and Asherim upon every high hill and under every green tree, ¹¹ and there they burnt incense in all the high places, as the nations did whom Jehovah carried away before them. And they worked wicked things to provoke Jehovah to anger.

¹⁷ Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands, ¹⁸ and have cast their gods into the fire, for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

¹³ Do you* not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand? ¹⁴ Who was there among all the gods of those nations, which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand that your* God should be able to deliver you* out of my hand?

⁸ For he says, Are not my rulers all of them kings? ⁹ Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus? ¹⁰ As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, whose graven images excelled those of Jerusalem and of Samaria, ¹¹ shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?

⁸ And Jehovah God planted a garden eastward in Eden and he put the man whom he had formed there.

³¹ And Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife. And they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan. And they came to Haran and dwelt there.

⁴ And Jacob said to them, My brothers, where are you* from? And they said, We are of Haran.

⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria and placed them in Halak and on the Habor, the river of Gozan and in the cities of the Medes.

³³ Have any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? ³⁴ Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

²⁶ And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria and he carried them away, even the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh and brought them to Halah and Habor and Hara and to the river of Gozan to this day.

¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph and the sons of Eden who were in Telassar?

²³ Haran and Canneh and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur and Chilmad, were your merchants.

⁴ Then when he came out of the land of the Chaldeans, he dwelt in Haran and after his father died, God exiled him from there into this land in which you are now dwelling.

²¹ So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to the entrance of Hamath.

⁸ From Mount Hor you* will mark out to the entrance of Hamath. And the goings out of the border will be at Zedad.

²⁴ And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon and from Cuthah and from Avva and from Hamath and Sepharvaim and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the sons of Israel. And they possessed Samaria and dwelt in the cities of it.

³⁴ Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

¹¹ And it will happen in that day, that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, who will remain, from Assyria and from Egypt and from Pathros and from Cush and from Elam and from Shinar and from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.

¹³ Where is the king of Hamath and the king of Arpad and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena and Ivvah?
¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. And Hezekiah went up to the house of Jehovah and spread it before Jehovah.
¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed to Jehovah, saying,
¹⁶ O Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, who sit above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. ¹⁷ Incline your ear, O Jehovah and hear. Open your eyes, O Jehovah and see and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God.
¹⁸ Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the countries and their land, ¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them. ²⁰ Now therefore, O Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are Jehovah, even you only.

⁵ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. And when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath and he gave judgment upon him.

²³ Of Damascus. Hamath is confounded and Arpad, for they have heard evil news. They are melted away. There is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.

² and also Hamath, which borders on it, Tyre and Sidon, because they are very wise.

²⁸ Yet have you respect to the prayer of your servant and to his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which your servant prays before you this day, ²⁹ that your eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place whereof you have said, My name will be there, to listen to the prayer which your servant will pray toward this place. ³⁰ And listen you to the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel, when they will pray toward this place. Yes, hear you in heaven your dwelling-place and when you hear, forgive.

⁵ And at the evening oblation I arose up from my humiliation, even with my garment and my robe torn and I fell upon my knees and spread out my hands to Jehovah my God,

¹⁰ How long, O God, will the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever?
¹¹ Why do you draw back your hand, even your right hand? Remove it from the midst of your bosom.

¹ He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will abide under the shadow of the Almighty
² I will say of Jehovah, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.

¹ I lift up my eyes to you, O you who sit in the heavens. ² Behold, as the eyes of servants to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes are to Jehovah our God, until he has mercy upon us.

¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. And Hezekiah went up to the house of Jehovah and spread it before Jehovah.

¹ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

⁴ These are the genealogies of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Jehovah God made earth and heaven.

²⁸ And he said, Your name will be called Jacob no more, but Israel, because you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.

²⁰ And he erected an altar there and called it El-Elohe-Israel.

²² And there I will meet with you. And I will speak with you from above the mercy-seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give you in commandment to the sons of Israel.

⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of hosts, who sits above the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹⁸ Then David the king went in and sat before Jehovah. And he said, Who am I, O lord Jehovah and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? ¹⁹ And this was yet a small thing in your eyes, O lord Jehovah, but you have spoken also of your servant's house for a great while to come and this too according to the manner of men, O lord Jehovah!
²⁰ And what can David say more to you? For you know your servant, O lord Jehovah. ²¹ For your word's sake and according to your own heart, you have worked all this greatness, to make your servant know it. ²² Therefore you are great, O Jehovah God, for there is none like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
²³ And what one nation on the earth is like your people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people and to make him a name and to do great things for you* and awesome things for your land, before your people whom you redeemed to you out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods? ²⁴ And you established to yourself your people Israel to be a people to you until everlasting and you, Jehovah, became their God.
²⁵ And now, O Jehovah God, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house, confirm it until everlasting and do as you have spoken. ²⁶ And let your name be magnified until everlasting, saying, Jehovah of hosts is God over Israel and the house of your servant David will be established before you. ²⁷ For you, O Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, have revealed to your servant, saying, I will build you a house. Therefore your servant has found in his heart to pray this prayer to you.
²⁸ And now, O lord Jehovah, you are God and your words are truth and you have promised this good thing to your servant.

²³ And he said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with your servants, who walk before you with all their heart,

³⁹ And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces. And they said, Jehovah, he is God, Jehovah, he is God.

¹⁵ And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company and came and stood before him. And he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, I beseech you, take a present from your servant.

¹⁰ And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my border and that your hand might be with me and that you would keep me from evil, that it not be to my sorrow! And God granted him what he requested.

⁷ And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Jehovah to its place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim. ⁸ For the cherubim spread forth their wings over the place of the ark and the cherubim covered the ark and the staves of it above.

¹¹ And Asa cried to Jehovah his God and said, Jehovah, there is none besides you to help, between the mighty and he who has no strength. Help us, O Jehovah our God. For we rely on you and in your name we come against this multitude. O Jehovah, you are our God. Do not let man prevail against you.

⁶ And he said, O Jehovah, the God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? And are you not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? And in your hand is power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.

⁹ Because he spoke and it was done. He commanded and it stood fast.

¹ Listen, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who sit above the cherubim, shine forth.

¹ Jehovah reigns! Let the peoples tremble. He sits above the cherubim, let the earth be moved.

²⁵ You laid of old the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the work of your hands.

⁶ who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them, who keeps truth everlasting,

¹⁷ The poor and needy seek water and there is none and their tongue fails for thirst. I, Jehovah, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

¹⁰ You* are my witnesses, says Jehovah and my servant whom I have chosen, that you* may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me there was no God formed, nor will there be after me.

⁶ Jehovah says thus, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts: I am the first and I am the last and besides me there is no God.

⁸ Do not fear, nor be afraid. Have I not declared to you of old and shown it? And you* are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? Yes, there is no Rock. I do not know any.

²² Look to me and be you* saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am God and there is none else.

¹⁰ But Jehovah is the true God. He is the living God and an everlasting King. At his wrath the earth trembles and the nations are not able to abide his indignation. ¹¹ Thus you* will say to them: The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.
¹² He has made the earth by his power. He has established the world by his wisdom and by his understanding he has stretched out the heavens.

³⁴ And at the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven and my understanding returned to me. And I blessed the Most High and I praised and honored he who lives forever. For his dominion is an everlasting dominion and his kingdom from generation to generation. ³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing and he does according to his will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. And none can stay his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?

³ And I set my face to the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.
⁴ And I prayed to Jehovah my God and made confession and said, Oh, Lord, the great and fearful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments,

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. ² This one was in the beginning with God. ³ All things became through him, and without him nothing became that has become into being.

²⁹ that your eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place whereof you have said, My name will be there, to listen to the prayer which your servant will pray toward this place.

⁴ It may be that Jehovah your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God and will rebuke the words which Jehovah your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.

⁴⁰ Now, O my God, I beseech you, let your eyes be open and let your ears be attendant to the prayer that is made in this place.

² Bow down your ear to me. Deliver me speedily. Be to me a strong rock, a house of defense to save me.

¹² and render to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom their reproach with which they have reproached you, O Lord,

⁴ It may be Jehovah your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God and will rebuke the words which Jehovah your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.

¹⁷ Incline your ear, O Jehovah and hear. Open your eyes, O Jehovah and see and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God.

¹⁸ O my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and behold our desolations and the city which is called by your name. For we do not present our supplications before you for our righteousness, but for your great mercies' sake.

²⁶ having deemed the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking toward the reward.

⁹ And the king of Assyria listened to him. And the king of Assyria went up against Damascus and took it and carried the people of it captive to Kir and killed Rezin.

² Of a truth I know that it is so. But how can man be just with God?

⁹ In my ears says Jehovah of hosts, of a truth many houses will be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.

¹⁷ Jehovah will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah–even} the king of Assyria.
¹⁸ And it will happen in that day, that Jehovah will whistle for the fly that is in the outermost part of the rivers of Egypt and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

¹⁵ Only know for certain that, if you* put me to death, you* will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and upon the inhabitants of it. For of a truth Jehovah has sent me to you* to speak all these words in your* ears.

⁴⁷ The king answered to Daniel and said, Of a truth your* God is the God of gods and Lord of kings and a revealer of secrets, since you have been able to reveal this secret.

³³ Now those in the ship came to him and, worshiped him, saying, You are truly the Son of God.

⁵⁹ And after approximately a one hour interval, then a certain other was stoutly affirming, saying, In truth this one was also with him; for he is a Galilean.

²⁷ For against truth, against your holy young-servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together

²⁵ And thus, the secret things of his heart become apparent, and so, when he has fallen down upon his face, he will be worshiping God, reporting that God really is among you.

²¹ And they left their images there and David and his men took them away.

⁴ Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ⁵ They have mouths, but they do not speak. They have eyes, but they do not see. ⁶ They have ears, but they do not hear. They have noses, but they do not smell. ⁷ They have hands, but they do not handle. They have feet, but they do not walk, nor do they speak through their throat.
⁸ Those who make them will be like them. Yes, everyone who trusts in them.

¹⁸ Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the countries and their land, ¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

⁹ Those who fashion a graven image are all of them vanity. And the things that they delight in will not profit. And their own witnesses do not see, nor know, that they may be put to shame. ¹⁰ Who has fashioned a god, or molded an image that is profitable for nothing? ¹¹ Behold, all his fellows will be put to shame and the workmen. They are of men. Let them all be gathered together. Let them stand up. They will fear. They will be put to shame together.
¹² The smith makes an axe and works in the coals and fashions it with hammers and works it with his strong arm. Yes, he is hungry and his strength fails. He drinks no water and is faint.
¹³ The carpenter stretches out a line. He marks it out with a pencil. He shapes it with planes. And he marks it out with the compasses and shapes it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house. ¹⁴ He hews down cedars for him and takes the cypress tree and the oak and strengthens for himself one among the trees of the forest. He plants a fir tree and the rain nourishes it.
¹⁵ Then it will be for a man to burn. And he takes of it and warms himself. Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread. Yes, he makes a god and worships it. He makes it a graven image and falls down to it. ¹⁶ He burns part of it in the fire. He eats flesh with part of it. He roasts roast and is satisfied. Yes, he warms himself and says, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire. ¹⁷ And the residue of it he makes a god, even his graven image. He falls down to it and worships and prays to it and says, Deliver me, for you are my god.
¹⁸ They do not know, nor do they consider. For he has shut their eyes, that they cannot see and their hearts, that they cannot understand. ¹⁹ And none calls to mind, nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread upon the coals of it. I have roasted flesh and eaten it. And shall I make the residue of it an abomination? Shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
²⁰ He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside. And he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols are upon the beasts and upon the cattle. The things that you* carried about are made a load, a burden to the weary beast. ² They stoop, they bow down together. They could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.

³ For the customs of the peoples are vanity.
For a man cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe. ⁴ They deck it with silver and with gold. They fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it not move. ⁵ They are like a palm tree, of turned work and do not speak. They must be carried, because they cannot go. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, nor is it in them to do good.
⁶ There is none like you, O Jehovah. You are great and your name is great in might. ⁷ Who should not fear you, O King of the nations? For to you it is befitting, inasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations and in all their royal estate, there is none like you.
⁸ But they are together stupid and foolish, the instruction of idols! It is but a block of wood. ⁹ There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith, blue and purple for their clothing. They are all the work of skillful men.

¹⁴ Every man has become stupid, without knowledge. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his graven image. For his molten image is falsehood and there is no breath in them. ¹⁵ They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation they will perish.
¹⁶ The portion of Jacob is not like these. For he is the former of all things and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance. Jehovah of hosts is his name.

²⁹ Therefore being the offspring of God, we ought not to suppose that God is similar to gold or silver or stone, or a carved thing from a craft and the contemplation of man.

¹⁵ For now I have put forth my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence,
and you have been cut off from the earth.
¹⁶ But indeed for this cause I have raised you up, to display in you my power and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.

⁹ For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it and will encompass us around and cut off our name from the earth and what will you do for your great name?

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
⁴⁶ This day Jehovah will deliver you into my hand and I will kill* you and take your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the armies of the Philistines this day to the birds of the heavens and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, ⁴⁷ and that all this assembly may know that Jehovah saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is Jehovah's and he will give you* into our hand.

⁴³ hear you in heaven your dwelling-place and do according to all that the foreigner calls to you for, that all the peoples of the earth may know your name, to fear you, as does your people Israel and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by your name.

³⁶ And it happened at the time of the offering of the evening oblation, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, O Jehovah, the God of Abraham, of Isaac and of Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and that I have done all these things at your word. ³⁷ Hear me, O Jehovah, hear me, that this people may know that you, Jehovah, are God and that you have turned their heart back again.

²⁸ And a man of God came near and spoke to the King of Israel and said, Jehovah says thus, Because the Syrians have said, Jehovah is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys, therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand and you* will know that I am Jehovah.

¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed before Jehovah and said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, who sits above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

¹ God be merciful to us and bless us and cause his face to shine upon us (Selah), ² that your way may be known upon earth, your salvation among all nations.

¹⁸ that they may know that you alone, whose name is Jehovah, are the Most High over all the earth.

³⁴ And at the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven and my understanding returned to me. And I blessed the Most High and I praised and honored he who lives forever. For his dominion is an everlasting dominion and his kingdom from generation to generation. ³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing and he does according to his will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. And none can stay his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?
³⁶ At the same time my understanding returned to me and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned to me and my counselors and my lords sought to me. And I was established in my kingdom and excellent greatness was added to me.
³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are truth and his ways justice. And he is able to humble those who walk in pride.

³¹ And it was told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Jehovah, I beseech you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

²³ And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey and arose and got home to his city and set his house in order and hanged himself. And he died and was buried in the sepulcher of his father.

⁵ Turn back and say to Hezekiah the prince of my people, Jehovah says thus, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you will go up to the house of Jehovah.

²⁰ And Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried out to heaven. ²¹ And Jehovah sent a messenger who cut off all the mighty men of valor and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, those who came out from his own guts killed him there with the sword.

²⁷ You will make your prayer to him and he will hear you and you will pay your vows.

² O you who hear prayer, all flesh will come to you.

⁹ Then you will call and Jehovah will answer, you will cry and he will say, Here I am. If you take the yoke away from the midst of you, the putting forth of the finger and speaking wickedly,

²⁴ And it will happen that, before they call, I will answer and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

²⁰ And while I was speaking and praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and presenting my supplication before Jehovah my God for the holy mountain of my God, ²¹ yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
²² And he instructed me and talked with me and said, O Daniel, I have now come out to give you wisdom and understanding. ²³ At the beginning of your supplications the commandment went forth and I have come to tell you, for you are a great delight. Therefore consider the matter and understand the vision.

⁴² And I knew that you always hear me, but because of the crowd who is standing around I said it, in order that they may believe that you sent me.

⁴ But having stared at him and becoming fearful, said, What is it, Lord?
But he said to him, Your prayers and your charity have gone up for a memorial in God’s sight.

³¹ and says, Cornelius, your prayer is heard and your charity is remembered in God’s sight.

¹⁴ And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us; ¹⁵ and if we know that he hears us whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from him.

⁴ I also could speak as you* do, if your* soul were in my soul's stead. I could join words together against you* and shake my head at you*.

¹⁴ that I may show forth all your praise. I will rejoice in your salvation in the gates of the daughter of Zion.

⁷ All those who see me laugh me to scorn. They shoot out the lip. They shake the head, saying, ⁸ He trusted on Jehovah. Let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, because he delights in him.

²⁵ I also have become a reproach to them. When they see me, they shake their head.

⁸ O daughter of Babylon, who is to be destroyed, he will be fortunate who rewards you as you have served us.

⁸ And the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, as a shed in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

¹⁰ Pass through your land as the Nile, O daughter of Tarshish, there is no restraint any more.

¹² And he said, You will no more rejoice, O you oppressed virgin daughter of Sidon. Arise, pass over to Kittim, even there will you have no rest.

²¹ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, Because you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, ²² this is the word which Jehovah has spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and laughed you to scorn. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.
²³ Whom have you defied and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel.
²⁴ You have defied the Lord by your servants and have said, I have come up to the height of the mountains with the multitude of my chariots, to the innermost parts of Lebanon. And I will cut down the tall cedars of it and the choice fir trees of it and I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field. ²⁵ I have dug and drunk water and with the sole of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt.
²⁶ Have you not heard how I have done it from afar and formed it of long-ago? Now I have made it occur, that it should be your to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps. ²⁷ Therefore their inhabitants were of small power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were as the grass of the field and as the green herb. As the grass on the housetops and as a field of grain before it is grown up.
²⁸ But I know your sitting down and your going out and your coming in and your raging against me. ²⁹ Because of your raging against me and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.
³⁰ And this will be the sign to you. You* will eat this year what grows of itself and in the second year what springs of the same and in the third year sow you* and reap and plant vineyards and eat the fruit of it. ³¹ And the remnant that has escaped from the house of Judah will again take root downward and bear fruit upward. ³² For out of Jerusalem will go forth a remnant and out of Mount Zion those who will escape. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.
³³ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning the king of Assyria, He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there. Neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it. ³⁴ By the way that he came, he will return by the same and he will not come to this city, says Jehovah. ³⁵ For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.

¹ Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans. For you will no more be called tender and delicate.

⁵ Sit you silent and get you into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans, for you will no more be called The mistress of kingdoms.

¹⁷ And you will say this word to them: Let my eyes run down with tears night and day and do not let them cease. For the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.

¹³ Therefore Jehovah says thus: Ask you* now among the nations, Who has heard such things? The virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing.

⁴ Again I will build you and you will be built, O virgin of Israel. Again you will be adorned with your tambourine and will go forth in the dances of those who make merry.

¹¹ Go up into Gilead and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt. In vain do you use many medicines; there is no healing for you.

¹⁵ The Lord has tossed-aside all my mighty men in the midst of me. He has called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men. The Lord has trodden the virgin daughter of Judah as in a winepress.

¹³ What shall I testify to you? What shall I liken to you, O daughter of Jerusalem? What shall I compare to you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For your breach is great like the sea; who can heal you?

¹⁵ All who pass by clap their hands at you. They hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men called The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, who dwells in the land of Uz. Yet the cup will pass through to you also. You will be drunken and will make yourself naked.

² The virgin of Israel has fallen; she will no more rise. She is cast down upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

⁸ And you, O tower of the flock, the hill of the daughter of Zion, to you it will come. Yes, the former dominion will come, the kingdom of the daughter of Jerusalem.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion. Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem. Behold, your king comes to you. He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding upon a donkey, even upon a colt the foal of a donkey.

³⁹ Now those who traveled by were blaspheming him, wagging their heads,

² And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I do not know Jehovah and moreover I will not let Israel go.

¹⁷ As yet you exalt yourself against my people, that you will not let them go?

⁶ And Isaiah said to them, Thus you* will say to your* master, Jehovah says thus, Do not be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

²² I will also praise you with the psaltery, even your truth, O my God. I will sing praises to you with the harp, O you Holy One of Israel.

⁹ They have set their mouth in the heavens and their tongue walks through the earth.

²² Arise, O God, plead your own cause. Remember how the foolish man reproaches you all the day.
²³ Do not forget not the voice of your adversaries. The tumult of those who rise up against you ascends continually.

¹³ There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes and their eyelids are lifted up.

²⁴ Therefore as the tongue of fire devours the stubble and as the dry grass sinks down in the flame, so their root will be as rottenness and their blossom will go up as dust, because they have rejected the law of Jehovah of hosts and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁵ Shall the axe boast itself against he who hews with it? Shall the saw magnify itself against he who wields it? As if a rod should wield those who lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up he who is not wood.

¹³ And you said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God and I will sit upon the mountain of congregation, in the outermost parts of the north. ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. I will make myself like the Most High.

¹¹ You* get out of the way. Turn aside out of the path. Cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.
¹² Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, Because you* despise this word and trust in oppression and perverseness and rely on it,

¹⁵ For thus said the lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, You* will be saved in returning and rest. Your* strength will be in quietness and in confidence. And you* would not,

⁵ For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, of his God, of Jehovah of hosts, though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.

² Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, The lord Jehovah says thus: Because your heart is lifted up and you have said, I am a god. I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas. Yet you are man and not God, though you did set your heart as the heart of God.
³ Behold, you are wiser than Daniel. There is no secret that is hidden from you. ⁴ By your wisdom and by your understanding you have gotten you riches and have gotten gold and silver into your treasures. ⁵ By your great wisdom and by your traffic you have increased your riches. And your heart is lifted up because of your riches.
⁶ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Because you have set your heart as the heart of God, ⁷ therefore, behold, I will bring strangers upon you, the terrible of the nations and they will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and they will defile your brightness. ⁸ They will bring you down to the pit and you will die the death of those who are slain, in the heart of the seas.
⁹ Will you yet say before him who slays you, I am God? But you are man and not God, in the hand of him who wounds you.

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne. And they took his glory from him, ²¹ and he was driven from the sons of men. And his heart was made like the beasts and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed with grass like oxen and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men and that he sets up over it whomever he will.
²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, ²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand your breath is and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.

⁵ demolishing evil reasonings and every exalted thing which is lifting itself up against the knowledge of God and capturing every device of the Adversary to the obedience of the Christ;

⁴ The one who lays in opposition to us and promotes himself against everyone being called a god or worshiped objects; so-that he sits in the temple of God as a god, showing himself–that he is a god.

²³ Now therefore, I beseech you, give pledges to my master the king of Assyria and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders upon them.

¹⁰ And he built towers in the wilderness and hewed out many cisterns, for he had much cattle, also in the lowland and in the plain. And he had farmer and vine-dressers in the mountains and in the fruitful fields, for he loved husbandry.

¹⁷ He also wrote letters, to rail on Jehovah, the God of Israel and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so will the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.

⁷ Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will make mention of the name of Jehovah our God.

⁷ However he does not so reason, nor does his heart so think, but it is in his heart to destroy and to cut off nations not a few.

¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the peoples. And like a gathering of eggs that are forsaken, I have gathered all the earth. And there was none that moved the wing, or that opened the mouth, or chirped.

¹⁸ And he will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, both soul and body. And it will be as when a standard-bearer faints.

²⁴ You have defied the Lord by your servants and have said, I have come up to the height of the mountains with the multitude of my chariots, to the innermost parts of Lebanon. And I will cut down the tall cedars of it and the choice fir trees of it and I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field. ²⁵ I have dug and drunk water and with the sole of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt.

³ Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches and with a forest-like shade and of high stature and its top was among the thick branches. ⁴ The waters nourished it. The deep made it to grow. The rivers of it ran all around its plantation and it sent out its channels to all the trees of the field.
⁵ Therefore its stature was exalted above all the trees of the field and its boughs were multiplied and its branches became long because of many waters, when it shot them forth. ⁶ All the birds of the heavens made their nests in its boughs and under its branches all the beasts of the field brought out their young and under its shadow dwelt all great nations.
⁷ Thus it was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches, for its root was by many waters. ⁸ The cedars in the garden of God could not dim it. The fir trees were not like its boughs and the plane trees were not as its branches, nor was any tree in the garden of God like it in its beauty.
⁹ I made it beautiful by the multitude of its branches, so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied it.
¹⁰ Therefore thus said the lord Jehovah: Because you are exalted in stature and he has set his top among the thick branches and his heart is lifted up in his height, ¹¹ I will even deliver him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations. He will surely deal with him; I have driven him out for his wickedness.
¹² And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off and have left him. Upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen and his boughs are broken by all the watercourses of the land. And all the peoples of the earth have gone down from his shadow and have left him.
¹³ All the birds of the heavens will dwell upon his ruin and all the beasts of the field will be upon his branches, ¹⁴ to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, neither set their top among the thick branches, nor that their mighty ones stand up on their height, even all that drink water. For they are all delivered to death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the sons of men, with those who go down to the pit.
¹⁵ The lord Jehovah says thus: In the day when he went down to Sheol I caused a mourning. I covered the deep for him. And I restrained the rivers of it and the great waters were stayed. And I caused Lebanon to mourn for him and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
¹⁶ I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the nether parts of the earth. ¹⁷ They also went down into Sheol with him to those who are slain by the sword, yes, those who were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the nations.
¹⁸ To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the nether parts of the earth. You will lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the lord Jehovah.

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire will be satisfied upon them. I will draw my sword, my hand will destroy them.

¹³ Moreover, if he is gathered into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city and we will draw it into the river until there is not one small stone found there.

¹⁰ And Ben-hadad sent to him and said, The gods do so to me and more also, if the dust of Samaria will suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

⁶ And the rivers will become foul. The streams of Egypt will be diminished and dried up. The reeds and flags will wither away.

³⁰ The king spoke and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling-place by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

¹¹ The counsel of Jehovah stands fast everlasting, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

¹⁰ Surely the inward thought of man will praise you, even the residue of inward thought will observe a festival to you.

⁵ Ho, Assyrian, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation! ⁶ I will send him against a profane nation and against the people of my wrath. I will give him a charge, to take the spoil and to take the prey and to tread them down like the mud of the streets.

²⁶ Have you not heard how I have done it from afar and formed it of long-ago? ⁷ I form the light and create darkness. I make peace and create evil. I am Jehovah who does all these things.

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning and from long-ago things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel will stand and I will do all my pleasure, ¹¹ calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. Yes, I have spoken. I will also make it occur. I have purposed. I will also do it.

¹⁶ Behold, I have created the smith who blows the fire of coals and brings forth a weapon for his work. And I have created the waster to destroy.

²⁷ For against truth, against your holy young-servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together ²⁸ to do as many things as your hand and your council predetermined to happen.

²³ And Jehovah said to Moses, Is Jehovah's hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not.

⁹ Only do not rebel against Jehovah, neither fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their defense is removed from over them and Jehovah is with us. Fear them not.

⁴ Because behold, the kings assembled themselves. They passed by together.
⁵ They saw it, then were they amazed. They were dismayed, they hastened away. ⁶ Trembling took hold of them there, pain, as of a woman in travail.
⁷ You break the ships of Tarshish with the east wind.

⁷ When the wicked spring up like the grass and when all the workers of unrighteousness flourish, it is that they will be destroyed forever,

¹¹ My days are like a shadow that declines and I am withered like grass.

¹ Unless Jehovah builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless Jehovah guards the city, the watchman wake but in vain.

⁶ Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withers before it grows up, ⁷ with which the reaper fills not his hand, nor he who binds sheaves, his bosom. ⁸ Neither do those who go by say, The blessing of Jehovah be upon you*. We praise you in the name of Jehovah.

⁶ The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass and all the goodness of it is as the flower of the field. ⁷ The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of Jehovah blows upon it. Surely the people is grass. ⁸ The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand everlasting.

¹⁰ For though you* had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you* and there remained but wounded men among them, yes they would rise up every man in his tent and burn this city with fire.

³⁶ A sword is upon the boasters and they will become fools. A sword is upon her mighty men and they will be dismayed. ³⁷ A sword is upon their horses and upon their chariots and upon all the mixed people who are in the midst of her and they will become as women. A sword is upon her treasures and they will be robbed.

³⁰ Her dwelling-places are set on fire. Her bars are broken.

³² And the passages are seized and the reeds they have burned with fire and the men of war are frightened.

¹⁰ but the rich brother in his humbleness, because like the flower of the grass, he will be passing away. ¹¹ For the sun has risen together with the burning heat, and dried up the grass, and its flower fell and the beauty of its face perished. So shall the rich man also fade away in his pursuits.

²⁴ Because, ‘All flesh is like grass and all the glory of man is like the flower of grass. The grass dried up and the its flower fell away.

⁶ You will be blessed when you come in and you will be blessed when you go out.

¹⁹ You will be cursed when you come in and you be will cursed when you go out.

⁸ Jehovah will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and everlasting.

¹ O Jehovah, you have searched and known me. ² You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought afar off. ³ You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.
⁴ Because there is not a word in my tongue, but behold, O Jehovah, you know it altogether. ⁵ You have beset me behind and before and laid your hand upon me.
⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is high, I cannot attain to it.
⁷ Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?
⁸ If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there.
⁹ If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the outermost parts of the sea, ¹⁰ your hand will lead me even there and your right hand will hold me.
¹¹ If I say, Surely the darkness will overwhelm me and the light around me will be night,

²⁸ But I know your sitting down and your going out and your coming in and your raging against me. ²⁹ Because of your raging against me and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

²³ Am I a God at hand, says Jehovah and not a God afar off? ²⁴ Can any man hide himself in secret places so that I will not see him? says Jehovah. Do I not fill heaven and earth? says Jehovah.

³³ By the way that he came, by the same will he return and he will not come to this city, says Jehovah.

² Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce his jaw through with a hook?

¹ Why do the nations rage and the peoples meditate vain things? ² The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together, against Jehovah and against his anointed, saying, ³ Let us break their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.
⁴ He who sits in the heavens will laugh. The Lord will mock them. ⁵ Then he will speak to them in his wrath and distress them in his great displeasure.

⁶ Arise, O Jehovah, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries and awake for me the justice you have commanded.

¹³ Why does the wicked man despise God and say in his heart, You will not require it?
¹⁴ You have seen. Because you behold mischief and spite, to repay with your hand. The poor man commits himself to you. You have been the helper of the fatherless.

⁹ Do not become as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding, whose trappings must be a bit and bridle to hold them in, else they will not come near to you.

⁶ The nations raged, the kingdoms were shaken, he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

⁷ who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves and the tumult of the peoples.

⁴ Your adversaries have roared in the midst of your assembly. They have set up their ensigns for signs.

² Because behold, your enemies make a tumult and those who hate you have lifted up the head.

³ The floods have lifted up, O Jehovah, the floods have lifted up their voice, the floods lift up their waves. ⁴ Above the voices of many waters, the mighty breakers of the sea, Jehovah on high is mighty.

²⁸ and his breath is as an overflowing stream that reaches even to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction. And a bridle that makes them go-astray will be in the jaws of the peoples.

⁹ And they put him in a cage with hooks and brought him to the king of Babylon. They brought him into strongholds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.

⁴ And I will put hooks in your jaws and I will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales and I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers, with all the fish of your rivers which stick to your scales.

⁴ And I will turn you around and put hooks into your jaws and I will bring you forth and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armor, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them handling swords,

² The lord Jehovah has sworn by his holiness, that behold, the days will come upon you*, that they will take you* away with hooks and your* residue with fish-hooks.

¹¹ But they were filled with madness, and were speaking with one another as to what they might do to Jesus.

¹⁸ If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me first, then you.

²³ He who hates me also hates my Father. ²⁴ If I had not done the works which no other has done among them, then they were having no sin, but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.

⁵¹ You are stiff-necked and non-circumcised in heart and ears. You are habitually defying the Holy Spirit, like your fathers, like you also!

¹² And he said, I will certainly be with you. And this will be the sign to you, that I have sent you: When you have brought out the people out of Egypt, you* will serve God upon this mountain.

⁴ but in the seventh year will be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to Jehovah. You will neither sow your field, nor prune your vineyard. ⁵ What grows of itself of your harvest you will not reap and the grapes of your undressed vine you will not gather. It will be a year of solemn rest for the land.

²⁰ And if you* will say, What will we eat the seventh year? Behold, we will not sow, nor gather in our increase, ²¹ then I will command my blessing upon you* in the sixth year and it will bring forth fruit for the three years. ²² And you* will sow the eighth year and eat of the fruits, the old storage, until the ninth year. Until its fruits come in, you* will eat the old storage.

³⁴ And this will be the sign to you, that will come upon your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: In one day they will die, both of them.

²¹ This is the word that Jehovah has spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and laughed you to scorn. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

³¹ For out of Jerusalem will go forth a remnant and out of Mount Zion those who will escape. The zeal of Jehovah will perform this.
³² Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning the king of Assyria, He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it. ³³ By the way that he came, by the same will he return and he will not come to this city, says Jehovah. ³⁴ For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.

⁸ And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What will be the sign that Jehovah will heal me and that I will go up to the house of Jehovah the third day? ⁹ And Isaiah said, This will be the sign to you from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do the thing that he has spoken: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?

¹¹ Ask you a sign of Jehovah your God, ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. ¹² But Ahaz said, I will not ask, nor will I challenge Jehovah.
¹³ And he said, Hear now, O house of David. Is it a small thing for you* to weary men, that you* will weary my God also?
¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you* a sign: Behold, a virgin will conceive and bear a son and will call his name Immanuel.

³⁰ And this will be the sign to you. You* will eat this year what grows of itself and in the second year what springs of the same and in the third year sow you* and reap and plant vineyards and eat the fruit of it.

¹² And this is the sign to you : you will be finding a swaddled baby, laying in a manger.

²² Thus Jehovah saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others and guided them on every side. ²³ And many brought gifts to Jehovah to Jerusalem and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah. So that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thereafter.

⁹ You prepared a place before it and it took deep root and filled the land.

²⁰ And it will happen in that day, that the remnant of Israel and those who are escaped of the house of Jacob, will no more again lean upon him who killed* them, but will lean upon Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. ²¹ A remnant will return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. ²² For though your people, Israel, be as the sand of the sea, a remnant of them will return. A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.

⁶ In days to come Jacob will take root; Israel will blossom and bud. And they will fill the face of the world with fruit.

³¹ And the remnant that has escaped from the house of Judah will again take root downward and bear fruit upward. ³² For out of Jerusalem will go forth a remnant and out of Mount Zion those who will escape. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from hereafter until everlasting. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

²⁰ And it will happen in that day, that the remnant of Israel and those who are escaped of the house of Jacob, will no more again lean upon him who killed* them, but will lean upon Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

¹⁷ And he put on righteousness as a breastplate and a helmet of salvation upon his head. And he put on garments of vengeance for clothing and was clad with zeal as a mantle.

¹⁵ Look down from heaven and behold from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory. Where are your zeal and your mighty acts? The yearning of your heart and your compassions are restrained toward me.

¹⁴ so that none of the remnant of Judah who have gone into the land of Egypt to journey there, will escape or be left to return into the land of Judah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell there. For none will return except such as will escape.

¹³ Thus my anger will be accomplished and I will cause my wrath toward them to rest and I will be comforted. And they will know that I, Jehovah, have spoken in my zeal, when I have accomplished my wrath upon them.

⁹ But I worked for my name's sake (that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them) in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁴ So the messenger who talked with me said to me, Cry, saying, Jehovah of hosts says thus: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

¹⁷ Now his disciples were reminded that it has been written, ‘Zeal of your house will be eating me up.’

⁵ Therefore so there has also become a remnant according to the chosen of grace in this current time.

¹⁵ And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah and they cast up a mound against the city and it stood against the rampart. And all the men who were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.

⁷ now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up upon them the waters of the River, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it will come up over all its channels and go over all its banks, ⁸ and it will sweep onward into Judah. It will overflow and pass through; it will reach even to the neck. And the stretching out of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.
⁹ Make an uproar, O you* peoples and be broken in pieces. And listen, all you* of far countries. Gird yourselves and be broken in pieces. Gird yourselves and be broken in pieces. ¹⁰ Take counsel together and it will be brought to nothing. Speak the word and it will not stand, for God is with us.

²⁴ Therefore the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, says thus O my people who dwell in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrian, though he slays you with the rod and lifts up his staff against you, according to the manner of Egypt. ²⁵ For yet a very little while and the indignation will be accomplished and my anger is to his destruction.

²⁸ He has come to Aiah. He has passed through Migron. At Michmash he lays up his baggage. ²⁹ They have gone over the pass. They have taken up their lodging at Geba. Ramah trembles. Gibeah of Saul has fled.
³⁰ Cry aloud with your voice, O daughter of Gallim! Listen, O Laishah! O you poor Anathoth! ³¹ Madmenah is a fugitive. The inhabitants of Gebim flee for safety. ³² This very day he will halt at Nob. He shakes his hand at the mountain of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

²² In his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to set battering rams, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to set battering rams against the gates, to cast up mounds, to build forts.

⁴³ Because the days will be coming upon you, and your enemies will put a military-barrier around you and will surround you, and will crowd you on every-side, ⁴⁴ and will be leveling you to the bedrock, and your children among you, and they will not be leaving in you one stone upon another stone, because you did not know the time of your visitation.

²⁸ Because of your raging against me and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

³⁶ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went and returned and dwelt at Nineveh.

²⁷ were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, lest their adversaries should recognize, lest they should say, Our hand is exalted and Jehovah has not done all this.

¹² Notwithstanding I will not do it in your days, for David your father's sake, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son. ¹³ However I will not tear away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to your son, for David my servant's sake and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.

⁴ Nevertheless for David's sake Jehovah his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him and to establish Jerusalem,

⁶ And I will add to your days fifteen years. And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria. And I will defend this city for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.

⁵ God is in the midst of her. She will not be shaken. God will help her and that right early. ⁶ The nations raged, the kingdoms were shaken, he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

² Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
³ God has made himself known in her palaces for a refuge. ⁴ Because behold, the kings assembled themselves. They passed by together.

⁷ You break the ships of Tarshish with the east wind. ⁸ As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of Jehovah of hosts, in the city of our God, God will establish it everlasting. Selah.

⁵ As birds hovering, so Jehovah of hosts will protect Jerusalem. He will protect and deliver. He will pass over and preserve.

⁶ And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria and I will defend this city.

²⁵ I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake and I will not remember your sins.

⁹ For my name's sake I will defer my anger and for my praise I will refrain for you, that I not cut you off.

¹¹ For my own sake, for my own sake, I will do it. For how should my name be profaned? And I will not give my glory to another.

⁵ Behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will raise to David a righteous Branch and he will reign as king and deal wisely and will execute justice and righteousness in the land. ⁶ In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will dwell safely. And this is his name by which he will be called: Jehovah our righteousness.

²¹ then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he will not have a son to reign upon his throne and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.

²⁶ then I will also cast away the seed of Jacob and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will cause their captivity to return and will have mercy on them.

²² Therefore say to the house of Israel, The lord Jehovah says thus: I do this not for your* sake, O house of Israel, but for my holy name, which you* have profaned among the nations where you* went.

⁶ to the praise of the glory of his favor, in which he has favored us in the beloved,

¹⁴ which is a down-payment of our inheritance, to the redemption of the ownership of God to the praise of his glory.

²³ For Jehovah will pass through to kill* the Egyptians and when he sees the blood upon the lintel and on the two side-posts, Jehovah will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your* houses to kill* you*.

²⁹ And it happened at midnight, that Jehovah killed* all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the house in the pit and all the firstborn of cattle.
³⁰ And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians and there was a great cry in Egypt, because there was not a house where there was not one dead.

¹⁶ And when the messenger stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah relented of the evil and said to the messenger who destroyed the people, It is enough. Now stay your hand. And the messenger of Jehovah was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

¹² either three years of famine, or three months to be consumed before your foes while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land and the messenger of Jehovah destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I will return to him who sent me.

¹⁶ And David lifted up his eyes and saw the messenger of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

⁵ Let them be as chaff before the wind and the messenger of Jehovah driving them on. ⁶ Let their way be dark and slippery and the messenger of Jehovah pursuing them.

⁵ The stouthearted are made a spoil. They have slept their sleep and none of the men of might have found their hands. ⁶ At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both chariot and horse are cast into a deep sleep.
⁷ You, even you, are to be feared. And who may stand in your sight when once you are angry?

¹⁶ Therefore will the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, send among his fat ones, leanness and under his glory there will be kindled a burning like the burning of fire. ¹⁷ And the light of Israel will be for a fire and his Holy One for a flame and it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day. ¹⁸ And he will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, both soul and body. And it will be as when a standard-bearer faints. ¹⁹ And the remnant of the trees of his forest will be few, so that a child may write them.

³³ Behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, will lop off the branches with terror. And the high of stature will be hewn down and the lofty will be brought low.

³⁰ And Jehovah will cause his glorious voice to be heard and will show the coming down of his arm with the indignation of his anger and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast and tempest and hailstones.
³¹ For through the voice of Jehovah the Assyrian will be dismayed. He will kill* him with his rod. ³² And every stroke of the appointed staff, which Jehovah will lay upon him, will be with the sound of tambourine and harps. And he will fight with them in battles with the brandishing of his arm. ³³ For a Topheth is prepared of old, yes, it is made ready for the king. He has made it deep and large. The pile of it is fire and much wood. The breath of Jehovah kindles it, like a stream of brimstone.

³⁶ And the messenger of Jehovah went forth and killed* in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

³⁰ In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain.

⁷ But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah and will save them by Jehovah their God and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

²³ But instantly a messenger of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory and he expired, having become maggot-eaten.

² For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord so comes like a thief in the night. ³ For whenever they are saying, Peace and security; then sudden utter-destruction stands by them, just-like the travail a woman has in her womb, and they may never flee away from it.

¹¹ He went forth out of that land into Assyria and built Nineveh and Rehoboth-ir and Calah ¹² and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city.

⁷ Behold, I will put a spirit in him and he will hear news and will return to his own land. And I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

² Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.

³ So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, of three days' journey. ⁴ And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey. And he cried out and said, Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.
⁵ And the people of Nineveh believed God and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
⁶ And the news reached the king of Nineveh and he arose from his throne and laid his robe from him and covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes. ⁷ And he made proclamation and proclaimed through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Do not let them feed, nor drink water, ⁸ but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn each one from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.
⁹ Who knows whether God will not turn and relent and turn away from his fierce anger, that we not perish?
¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. And God relented of the evil which he said he would do to them and he did not do it.

¹ The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

⁸ But Nineveh has been from of old like a pool of water. Yet they flee away. Stand, stand, they cry, but none looks back.

⁴¹ The men of the Ninevites will be standing up with this generation in the judgment and will be condemning it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, more-than Jonah is here.

⁴ And the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month.

³¹ For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.

¹⁰ Thus will you* speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

¹⁴ Who was there among all the gods of those nations, which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand that your* God should be able to deliver you* out of my hand?

¹⁹ And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men's hands.

² then they drew near to Zerubbabel and to the heads of fathers and said to them, Let us build with you*, for we seek your* God, as you* do and we sacrifice to him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria who brought us up here.

²⁷ Set up a standard in the land. Blow the trumpet among the nations. Prepare the nations against her. Call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni and Ashkenaz. Appoint a marshal against her. Cause the horses to come up as the rough canker-worm.
