¹ At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick. ² And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I beseech you and disguise yourself that you not be known to be the wife of Jeroboam and get you to Shiloh. Behold, there is Ahijah the prophet who spoke concerning me that I should be king over this people. ³ And take with you ten loaves and cakes and an earthenware of honey and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the child. ⁴ And Jeroboam's wife did so and arose and went to Shiloh and came to the house of Ahijah.
Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were set because of his age. ⁵ And Jehovah said to Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam comes to inquire of you concerning her son, for he is sick. Thus and thus you will say to her, for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman.
⁶ And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, you wife of Jeroboam. Why pretend to be another? For I am sent to you with heavy news.
⁷ Go, tell Jeroboam, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Forasmuch as I exalted you from among the people and made you prince over my people Israel, ⁸ and tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it you and yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments and who followed me with all his heart to do only what was right in my eyes, ⁹ but have done evil above all who were before you and have gone and made you other gods and molten images to provoke me to anger and have cast me behind your back, ¹⁰ therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam and will cut off from Jeroboam every one who urinates on the wall, he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam as a man sweeps away manure, till it is all gone.
¹¹ He who dies of Jeroboam in the city will the dogs eat and he who dies in the field will the birds of the heavens eat, for Jehovah has spoken it.
¹² Arise you therefore, get you to your house. When your feet enter into the city, the child will die. ¹³ And all Israel will mourn for him and bury him, for he only of Jeroboam will come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Jehovah, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.
¹⁴ Moreover Jehovah will raise up a king for him over Israel who will cut off the house of Jeroboam that day. But what? Even now. ¹⁵ For Jehovah will kill* Israel as a reed is shaken in the water. And he will root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers and will scatter them beyond the River because they have made their Asherim, provoking Jehovah to anger. ¹⁶ And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he has sinned and with which he has made Israel to sin.
¹⁷ And Jeroboam's wife arose and departed and came to Tirzah. As she came to the threshold of the house, the child died. ¹⁸ And all Israel buried him and mourned for him, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the prophet.
¹⁹ And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. ²⁰ And the days which Jeroboam reigned were twenty-two years and he slept with his fathers. And Nadab his son reigned instead of him.
²¹ And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovah had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. ²² And Judah did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done. ²³ For they also built for them high places and pillars and Asherim, on every high hill and under every green tree. ²⁴ And there were also sodomites in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which Jehovah drove out before the sons of Israel.
²⁵ And it happened in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak King of Egypt came up against Jerusalem. ²⁶ And he took away the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king's house. He even took away all. And he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
²⁷ And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard who kept the door of the king's house. ²⁸ And it was so, that, as often as the king went into the house of Jehovah, the guard bore them and brought them back into the guard-chamber.
²⁹ Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ³⁰ And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. ³¹ And Rehoboam slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. And Abijah his son reigned instead of him.

⁵ You will not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them, because I, Jehovah your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of those who hate me,

¹⁹ And his daughter-in-law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered. And when she heard the news that the ark of God was taken and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and brought forth, for her pains came upon her. ²⁰ And about the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her, Do not fear, for you have brought out a son. But she did not answer, neither did she regard it.

² And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons and the Philistines killed Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi shua, the sons of Saul.

¹⁵ And Nathan departed to his house. And Jehovah struck the child that Uriah's wife bore to David and it was very sick.

³³ After this thing Jeroboam did not return from his evil way, but again made from among all the people priests of the high places. Whoever would, he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places. ³⁴ And this thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth.

¹² Arise you therefore, get you to your house. ¹ And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel assembled themselves together at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there and the land was subdued before them.

⁸ And Saul disguised himself and put on other garments and went, he and two men with him. And they came to the woman by night and he said, I beseech you, divine to me, by the familiar spirit and bring me up whomever I will name to you.

² And Joab sent to Tekoa and fetched from there a wise woman and said to her, I beseech you, pretend to be a mourner and put on mourning apparel, I beseech you and do not anoint yourself with oil, but be as a woman who has a long time mourned for the dead.

²⁹ And it happened at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way. Now Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment and the two were alone in the field. ³⁰ And Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him and tore it in twelve pieces.
³¹ And he said to Jeroboam, You take ten pieces, for Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and will give ten tribes to you ³² (but he will have one tribe, for my servant David's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel), ³³ because that they have forsaken me and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab and Milcom the god of the sons of Ammon. And they have not walked in my ways, to do what is right in my eyes and to keep my statutes and my ordinances as David his father did.
³⁴ However I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant's sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes. ³⁵ But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand and will give it to you, even ten tribes. ³⁶ And I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for me to put my name there. ³⁷ And I will take you and you will reign according to all that your soul desires and will be king over Israel.
³⁸ And it will be, if you will listen to all that I command you and will walk in my ways and do what is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did. That I will be with you and will build you a sure house as I built for David and will give Israel to you.

⁷ And the king said to the man of God, Come home with me and refresh yourself and I will give you a reward.

² And Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria and was sick. And he sent messengers and said to them, Go, inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover of this sickness.

⁴² And a man came from Baal-shalishah and brought the man of God bread of the first-fruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And he said, Give to the people that they may eat.

⁵ And the king of Syria said, Go now and I will send a letter to the King of Israel. And he departed and took with him ten talants of silver and six thousand pieces of gold and ten changes of garments.

¹⁵ And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company and came and stood before him. And he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, I beseech you, take a present from your servant.

⁷ And Elisha came to Damascus and Ben-hadad the king of Syria was sick. And it was told him, saying, The man of God has come here. ⁸ And the king said to Hazael, Take a present in your hand and go, meet the man of God and inquire of Jehovah by him, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness?
⁹ So Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden and came and stood before him and said, Your son Ben-hadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness?

² Now a certain centurion’s bondservant, who was precious to him, being ill, was about to die. ³ Now having heard things concerning Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews; requesting of him, that he might come and might save his bondservant.

⁴⁷ Having heard that Jesus is coming out of Judea into Galilee, he went toward him, and asked him in order that he might come down and might heal his son; for he was about to die. ⁴⁸ Therefore Jesus said to him, If you do not see signs and wonders, you may never believe.

³ Therefore the sisters sent to him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick.

¹ And it happened, that when Isaac was old and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his elder son and said to him, My son. And he said to him, Here I am.

¹⁰ Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near to him and he kissed them and embraced them.

⁷ And Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

² And it happened at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place (now his eyes had begun to grow dim so that he could not see),

³ And when the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Why has Jehovah struck us today before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of Shiloh to us, that it may come among us and save us out of the hand of our enemies.
⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of hosts, who sits above the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹⁵ Now Eli was ninety-eight years old and his eyes were dim so that he could not see.

²⁹ And it happened at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way. Now Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment and the two were alone in the field.

³ in the day when the keepers of the house will tremble and the strong men will bow themselves down and the grinders cease because they are few and those who look out of the windows will be darkened,

¹² But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
¹³ And now, because you* have done all these works, says Jehovah. And I spoke to you*, rising up early and speaking, but you* heard not and I called you*, but you* answered not, ¹⁴ therefore I will do to the house, which is called by my name, in which you* trust and to the place which I gave to you* and to your* fathers, as I did to Shiloh.

²⁷ And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came near to thrust her away, but the man of God said, Let her alone, for her soul is distressed within her and Jehovah has hid it from me and has not told me.

⁸ Now the king of Syria was warring against Israel and he took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place will be my camp. ⁹ And the man of God sent to the King of Israel, saying, Beware that you do not pass such a place, for the Syrians are coming down there. ¹⁰ And the King of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of. And he saved himself there, not once nor twice.
¹¹ And the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled for this thing and he called his servants and said to them, Will you* not show me which of us is for the King of Israel? ¹² And one of his servants said, No, my lord, O king, but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel tells the King of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.

¹ O Jehovah, you have searched and known me. ² You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought afar off. ³ You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.
⁴ Because there is not a word in my tongue, but behold, O Jehovah, you know it altogether.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Jehovah.

⁷ Surely the lord Jehovah will do nothing unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets.

¹⁹ But when Peter was contemplating concerning the vision, the Spirit said to him, Behold, men are seeking you. ²⁰ But when you stand up, go down and travel together with them, judging nothing, because I have sent them.

¹⁶ Then Samuel said to Saul, Stop and I will tell you what Jehovah has said to me this night. And he said to him, Say on.

²⁶ And Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of Jehovah and Jehovah has rejected you from being king over Israel.

¹⁸ Because you obeyed not the voice of Jehovah and did not execute his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore Jehovah has done this thing to you this day.

²⁰ And it happened, as they sat at the table, that the word of Jehovah came to the prophet who brought him back.
²¹ And he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, Jehovah says thus, Forasmuch as you have been disobedient to the mouth of Jehovah and have not kept the commandment which Jehovah your God commanded you, ²² but came back and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, Eat no bread and drink no water, your body will not come to the sepulcher of your fathers.

⁴² And he said to him, Jehovah says thus, Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will go for his life and your people for his people.

¹⁸ Arise, go down to meet Ahab King of Israel, who dwells in Samaria. Behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth where he has gone down to take possession of it. ¹⁹ And you will speak to him, saying, Jehovah says thus, Have you killed and also taken possession? And you will speak to him, saying, Jehovah says thus, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth will dogs lick your blood, even your.
²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found you because you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of Jehovah.
²¹ Behold, I will bring evil upon you and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab every one who urinates on the wall and he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel. ²² And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger and have made Israel to sin.
²³ And Jehovah spoke also of Jezebel, saying, The dogs will eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel. ²⁴ He who dies of Ahab in the city the dogs will eat and he who dies in the field will the birds of the heavens eat.

⁸ And the King of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Do not let the king say so.

¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness and the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

¹⁰ Jehovah brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.

² I beseech you, inquire of Jehovah on our behalf. For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps Jehovah will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
³ Then Jeremiah said to them, Thus you* will say to Zedekiah: ⁴ Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your* hands, with which you* fight against the king of Babylon and against the Chaldeans who besiege you*, outside the walls. And I will gather them into the midst of this city.
⁵ And I myself will fight against you* with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and in wrath and in great indignation. ⁶ And I will kill* the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast. They will die of a great pestilence.
⁷ And afterward, says Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his servants and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life and he will kill* them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, nor have pity, nor have mercy.

⁴ And the sons are impudent and stiff hearted.
I send you to them and you will say to them, The Lord says thus Jehovah. ⁵ And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear (for they are a rebellious house), yet will know that there has been a prophet among them.

³ Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face. Should I be inquired of at all by them?
⁴ Therefore speak to them and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet, I Jehovah will answer him in it according to the multitude of his idols, ⁵ that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

⁷ For everyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who journey in Israel, that separates himself from me and takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of me, I Jehovah will answer him by myself. ⁸ And I will set my face against that man and will make him an astonishment, for a sign and a proverb. And I will cut him off from the midst of my people.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.

¹⁹ Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered and said, Belteshazzar, do not let the dream, or the interpretation, trouble you. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, may the dream be to those who hate you and the interpretation of it to your adversaries.
²⁰ The tree that you saw, which grew and was strong, whose height reached to heaven and the sight of it to all the earth, ²¹ whose leaves were fine and the fruit of it much and in it was food for all, under which the beasts of the field dwelt and upon whose branches the birds of the heavens had their habitation, ²² it is you, O king, who have grown and become strong. For your greatness has grown and reaches to heaven and your dominion to the end of the earth.
²³ And in what the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven and saying, Hew down the tree and destroy it. Nevertheless leave the stump of the roots of it in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field. And let it be wet with the dew of heaven and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him.
²⁴ This is the interpretation, O king and it is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king: ²⁵ That you will be driven from men and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. And you will be made to eat grass as oxen and will be wet with the dew of heaven.
And seven times will pass over you till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.

¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let your gifts be to yourself and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation.
¹⁸ O you king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom and greatness and glory and majesty. ¹⁹ And because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he wanted, he killed and whom he wanted, he kept alive and whom he wanted, he raised up and whom he wanted, he put down.
²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne. And they took his glory from him, ²¹ and he was driven from the sons of men. And his heart was made like the beasts and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed with grass like oxen and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men and that he sets up over it whomever he will.
²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, ²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand your breath is and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.
²⁴ Then the part of the hand was sent from before him and this writing was inscribed. ²⁵ And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
²⁶ This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE, God has numbered your kingdom and brought it to an end. ²⁷ TEKEL, you are weighed in the balances and are found wanting. ²⁸ PERES, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

²¹ The Son of Man indeed is going, just-as it has been written concerning him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is given up! It was

²⁰ And having observed him, they sent forth agents, who themselves pretended to be righteous, in order that they might grab him from his speech, that they might give him to the rule and the authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach correctly, and do not accept the countenance of men, but in truth, are teaching the way of God. ²² Is it legal for us to give tax to Caesar or not?
²³ But he perceived their craftiness and said to them, Why are you testing me?

³ But Peter said, Ananias, why has the Adversary filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to pilfer part of the price of the parcel of ground? ⁴ When it remained unsold, was it not remaining yours? And when it was sold, was it not still in your authority? Why did you purpose this matter in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God. ⁵ But Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and expired, and there became great fear upon all those who heard these things.

⁹ But Peter said to her, Why is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door and they will be carrying you out. ¹⁰ Now she fell down instantly beside his feet and expired and the young-men came in and found her dead and they carried her out and buried her by her husband.

¹³ And there is no created thing unapparent in his sight, but all things are naked and have been laid-bare to his eyes to whom is our account.

²⁷ And there came a man of God to Eli and said to him, Jehovah says thus, Did I reveal myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's house? ²⁸ And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? And did I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the sons of Israel made by fire?
²⁹ Why do you* kick at my sacrifice and at my offering, which I have commanded in my habitation and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chief of all the offerings of Israel my people?
³⁰ Therefore Jehovah, the God of Israel, says, I said indeed that your house and the house of your father, should walk before me everlasting, but now Jehovah says, Be it far from me, for those who honor me I will honor and those who despise me will be lightly esteemed.

⁷ And Nathan said to David, You are the man. Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, I anointed you king over Israel and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. ⁸ And I gave you your master's house and your master's wives into your bosom and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if that had been too little, I would have added to you such and such things.

²⁴ Jehovah says thus, You* will not go up, nor fight against your* brothers the sons of Israel. Return every man to his house, for this thing is of me. So they listened to the word of Jehovah and returned and went their way according to the word of Jehovah.

² Forasmuch as I exalted you out of the dust and made you prince over my people Israel and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins,

¹⁴ And if you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.

³⁰ And Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him and tore it in twelve pieces.
³¹ And he said to Jeroboam, You take ten pieces, for Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and will give ten tribes to you

⁵ because David did what was right in the eyes of Jehovah and did not turn aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, except only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

³ And Jehovah was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father David and did not seek for the Baals,

¹ Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what was right in the eyes of Jehovah like David his father,

²² And having removed him, he lifted up David to be king to them; to whom he also testified and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man according to my own heart, who will be practicing all my will.

³⁶ For indeed David, having attended to the plan of God in his own generation, fell-asleep and was added to his fathers and saw decay;

¹⁷ You will make you no molten gods.

⁸ Also in Horeb you* provoked Jehovah to wrath and Jehovah was angry with you* to destroy you*. ⁹ When I had gone up onto the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant which Jehovah made with you*, then I abode on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water. ¹⁰ And Jehovah delivered to me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God. And on them was according to all the words, which Jehovah spoke with you* in the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
¹¹ And it happened, at the end of forty days and forty nights, that Jehovah gave me the two tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant. ¹² And Jehovah said to me, Arise, get down quickly from here, for your people that you have brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them. They have made them a molten image.
¹³ Furthermore Jehovah spoke to me, saying, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stubborn people. ¹⁴ Let me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.
¹⁵ So I turned and came down from the mountain and the mountain was burning with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. ¹⁶ And I looked, and behold, you* had sinned against Jehovah your* God. You* had made you* a molten calf. You* had turned aside quickly out of the way which Jehovah had commanded you*.

²⁴ You* have been rebellious against Jehovah from the day that I knew you*.

¹⁶ They moved him to jealousy with strange gods. With abominations they provoked him to anger.
¹⁷ They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods that they did not know, to new gods that came up of late, which your* fathers did not dread.

²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with what is not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities and I will move them to jealousy with a non-nation. I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

⁸ They chose new gods, then war was in the gates. Was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?

²⁸ Upon it the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. And he said to them, It is too much for you* to go up to Jerusalem. Behold your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁶ And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he has sinned and with which he has made Israel to sin.

²² And Judah did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done.

³⁴ And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin with which he made Israel to sin.

³¹ And it happened, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took a wife, Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians and went and served Baal and worshiped him.

³ For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed. And he reared up altars for Baal and made an Asherah, as did Ahab King of Israel and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.

²⁶ Notwithstanding, Jehovah did not turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him.

¹⁵ And he appointed priests for him for the high places and for the male-goats and for the calves which he had made.

⁶ He also made his sons to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom. And he practiced soothsaying and used enchantments and practiced sorcery and dealt with psychics and with wizards. He worked much evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger.

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets who testified against them to turn them again to you and they worked great provocations.

¹⁷ since you hate instruction and cast my words behind you?

⁴⁰ How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the desert!

⁵⁶ Yet they challenged and rebelled against the Most High God and did not keep his testimonies,

¹⁹ They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a molten image. ²⁰ Thus they changed their glory for the likeness of an ox that eats grass.

²⁹ Thus they provoked him to anger with their practices and the plague broke in upon them.

⁴ Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ⁵ They have mouths, but they do not speak. They have eyes, but they do not see. ⁶ They have ears, but they do not hear. They have noses, but they do not smell. ⁷ They have hands, but they do not handle. They have feet, but they do not walk, nor do they speak through their throat.
⁸ Those who make them will be like them. Yes, everyone who trusts in them.

⁹ Those who fashion a graven image are all of them vanity. And the things that they delight in will not profit. And their own witnesses do not see, nor know, that they may be put to shame. ¹⁰ Who has fashioned a god, or molded an image that is profitable for nothing? ¹¹ Behold, all his fellows will be put to shame and the workmen. They are of men. Let them all be gathered together. Let them stand up. They will fear. They will be put to shame together.
¹² The smith makes an axe and works in the coals and fashions it with hammers and works it with his strong arm. Yes, he is hungry and his strength fails. He drinks no water and is faint.
¹³ The carpenter stretches out a line. He marks it out with a pencil. He shapes it with planes. And he marks it out with the compasses and shapes it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house. ¹⁴ He hews down cedars for him and takes the cypress tree and the oak and strengthens for himself one among the trees of the forest. He plants a fir tree and the rain nourishes it.
¹⁵ Then it will be for a man to burn. And he takes of it and warms himself. Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread. Yes, he makes a god and worships it. He makes it a graven image and falls down to it. ¹⁶ He burns part of it in the fire. He eats flesh with part of it. He roasts roast and is satisfied. Yes, he warms himself and says, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire. ¹⁷ And the residue of it he makes a god, even his graven image. He falls down to it and worships and prays to it and says, Deliver me, for you are my god.
¹⁸ They do not know, nor do they consider. For he has shut their eyes, that they cannot see and their hearts, that they cannot understand. ¹⁹ And none calls to mind, nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread upon the coals of it. I have roasted flesh and eaten it. And shall I make the residue of it an abomination? Shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
²⁰ He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside. And he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

⁹ Will you* steal, murder and commit adultery and swear falsely and burn incense to Baal and walk after other gods that you* have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name and say, We are delivered, that you* may do all these abominations?

¹⁴ Every man has become stupid, without knowledge. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his graven image. For his molten image is falsehood and there is no breath in them. ¹⁵ They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation they will perish.
¹⁶ The portion of Jacob is not like these. For he is the former of all things and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance. Jehovah of hosts is his name.

³ And he put forth the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head. And the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the gate of the inner court that looks toward the north, where the seat of the image of jealousy was, which provokes to jealousy.

¹⁷ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence and have turned again to provoke me to anger. And behold, they put the branch to their nose.

³⁵ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, therefore you also bear your lewdness and your prostitutions.

²² Or are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? We are not mightier than him, are we?

³⁶ For Jehovah will judge his people and regrets for his servants, when he sees that their power has gone and there is none remaining, shut up or left at large.

³⁰ Therefore Jehovah, the God of Israel, says, I said indeed that your house and the house of your father, should walk before me everlasting, but now Jehovah says, Be it far from me, for those who honor me I will honor and those who despise me will be lightly esteemed.

²² God do so to the enemies of David and more also, if I leave of all that pertains to him by the morning light so much as one who urinates on the wall.

³⁴ For in very deed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, lives, who has withheld me from hurting you, unless you had hastened and come to meet me, surely there had not been left to Nabal by the morning light so much as one who urinates on the wall.

²⁵ And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah. And he reigned over Israel two years. ²⁶ And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and walked in the way of his father and in his sin with which he made Israel to sin.
²⁷ And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him. And Baasha killed* him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, for Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon. ²⁸ Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah and reigned instead of him.
²⁹ And it happened that, as soon as he was king, he killed* all the house of Jeroboam. He left to Jeroboam not any who breathed, until he had destroyed him according to the saying of Jehovah, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite, ³⁰ for the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned and with which he made Israel to sin, because of his provocation with which he provoked Jehovah, the God of Israel, to anger.

¹¹ And it happened, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he killed* all the house of Baasha. He left him not a single one who urinates on the wall, neither of his kinfolks, nor of his friends.

²¹ Behold, I will bring evil upon you and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab every one who urinates on the wall and he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel.

⁸ For the whole house of Ahab will perish. And I will cut off from Ahab every one who urinates on the wall and he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel. ⁹ And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.

³⁷ and the body of Jezebel will be as manure upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they will not say, This is Jezebel.

²⁶ For Jehovah saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter, for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel.

¹³ And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria and the plummet of the house of Ahab. And I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.

⁷ yet he will perish forever like his own manure. Those who have seen him will say, Where is he?

¹⁰ who perished at En-dor, who became as manure for the earth.

²⁵ Therefore the anger of Jehovah is kindled against his people and he has stretched forth his hand against them and has struck them. And the mountains tremble and their dead bodies are as refuse in the midst of the streets.
For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

¹⁹ But you are cast forth away from your sepulcher like an abominable branch, clothed with the slain, who are thrust through with the sword, who go down to the stones of the pit, as a dead body trodden under foot.

²³ I will also make it a possession for the porcupine and pools of water. And I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says Jehovah of hosts.

² And they will spread them before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, which they have loved and which they have served and after which they have walked and which they have sought and which they have worshiped. They will not be gathered, nor be buried. They will be for manure upon the face of the earth.

⁴ And they will destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers. I will also scrape her dust from her and make her a bare rock.

⁶ Shall the trumpet be blown in a city and the people not be afraid? Shall evil befall a city and Jehovah has not done it?

¹⁷ And I will bring distress upon men, that they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against Jehovah and their blood will be poured out as dust and their flesh as manure.

³ Behold, I will rebuke your* seed and will spread manure upon your* faces, even the manure of your* feasts and you* will be taken away with it.

³⁴ The salt is good, but if the salt is flavorless, in what shall it be seasoned? ³⁵ It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure-pile. Cast it outside. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

⁴ He of Baasha who dies in the city will the dogs eat and he of his who dies in the field will the birds of the heavens eat.

¹⁹ And you will speak to him, saying, Jehovah says thus, Have you killed and also taken possession? And you will speak to him, saying, Jehovah says thus, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth will dogs lick your blood, even your.

²⁴ And they will go forth and look upon the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me. For their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched and they will be an abhorring to all flesh.

³ And I will appoint over them four kinds, says Jehovah: the sword to kill and the dogs to tear and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the earth, to devour and to destroy.

¹⁷ And you, son of man, thus says the lord Jehovah: Speak to the birds of every sort and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves and come. Gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I sacrifice for you*, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that you* may eat flesh and drink blood.
¹⁸ You* will eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the rulers of the earth, of rams, of lambs and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatten sheep of Bashan. ¹⁹ And you* will eat fat till you* are full and drink blood till you* are drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you*.

¹⁷ And I saw a messenger standing in the sun, and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in mid-heaven, Come-here. Be gathered together to the great supper of God; ¹⁸ in order that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit upon them and the flesh of all men, both free men and bondservants and both the little and the great.

³ And take with you ten loaves and cakes and an earthenware of honey and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the child.

¹⁶ And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he has sinned and with which he has made Israel to sin.
¹⁷ And Jeroboam's wife arose and departed and came to Tirzah. As she came to the threshold of the house, the child died.

⁶ And they said to him, There came up a man to meet us and said to us, Go, turn again to the king that sent you* and say to him, Jehovah says thus, Is it because there is no God in Israel that you send to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but will surely die.

¹⁶ And he said to him, Jehovah says thus, Inasmuch as you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? Therefore you will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but will surely die.

⁵⁰ Jesus says to him, Travel on; your son lives.
And the man believed the word in which Jesus spoke to him, and he was traveling on.
⁵¹ Now already while going down, his bondservants encountered him and reported, saying that his boy lives. ⁵² Therefore, he inquired from them the hour in which he had improved. And they said to him, The fever left him yesterday in the seventh hour.

²⁹ And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

¹² And when he humbled himself, the wrath of Jehovah turned from him, so as not to destroy him altogether. And moreover in Judah there were good things.

³ Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have put away the Asheroth out of the land and have set your heart to seek God.

²⁸ If you* say, How we will persecute him! And that the root of the matter is found in me,

¹⁰ Weep you* not for him who is dead, nor sympathize with him. But weep greatly for him who goes away, for he will return no more, nor see his native country.

¹⁸ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah. They will not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! They will not lament for him, saying Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!

¹⁴ Now behold, if he begets a son, who sees all his father's sins, which he has done and fears and does not do such like, ¹⁵ who has not eaten upon the mountains, nor has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, has not defiled his neighbor's wife, ¹⁶ nor has wronged any man, has not taken anything to pledge, nor has taken by robbery, but has given his bread to a hungry man and has covered a naked man with a garment, ¹⁷ who has withdrawn his hand from a poor man, who has not received interest nor increase, has executed my ordinances, has walked in my statutes, he will not die for the iniquity of his father. He will surely live.
¹⁸ As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother and did what is not good among his people, behold, he will die in his iniquity.
¹⁹ Yet you* say, Why does not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son has done what is lawful and right and has kept all my statutes and has done them, he will surely live. ²⁰ The soul that sins, it will die.
The son will not bear the iniquity of the father, nor will the father bear the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of a righteous man will be upon him and the wickedness of a wicked man will be upon him.
²¹ But if a wicked man turns from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is lawful and right, he will surely live. He will not die. ²² None of his transgressions that he has committed will be remembered against him. In his righteousness that he has done he will live.
²³ Have I any pleasure in the death of a wicked man? says the lord Jehovah and not rather that he should return from his way and live?
²⁴ But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits unrighteousness and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he will die.
²⁵ Yet you* say, The way of the Lord is not equitable. Hear now, O house of Israel. Is not my way equitable? Are not your* ways inequitable?
²⁶ When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits unrighteousness and dies in it, in his unrighteousness that he has done, he will die. ²⁷ Again, when a wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed and does what is lawful and right, he will save his soul alive. ²⁸ Because he considers and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he will surely live. He will not die.
²⁹ Yet the house of Israel says, The way of the Lord is not equitable. O house of Israel, are not my ways equitable? Are not your* ways inequitable?
³⁰ Therefore I will judge you*, O house of Israel, each one according to his ways, says the lord Jehovah. Return and turn yourselves from all your* transgressions, so iniquity will not be your* ruin.
³¹ Cast away from you* all your* transgressions, by which you* have transgressed and make you* a new heart and a new spirit. For why will you* die, O house of Israel? ³² For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the lord Jehovah, therefore turn yourselves back and live.

⁶ that the fellowship of your faith might become effective in the full knowledge of every good thing, which is in you, to Christ Jesus.

⁸ (for that righteous man, who was dwelling among them, was tormenting his righteous soul by seeing and in hearing their lawless works day by day).
⁹ The Lord knows how to rescue the devout out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous to a day of judgment to be punished;

¹¹ Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

² And you, son of man, thus says the lord Jehovah to the land of Israel: An end. The end has come upon the four corners of the land. ³ Now the end is upon you and I will send my anger upon you and will judge you according to your ways. And I will bring upon you all your abominations. ⁴ And my eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity. But I will bring your ways upon you and your abominations will be in the midst of you.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.
⁵ The lord Jehovah says thus: An evil, an only evil, behold, it comes. ⁶ An end has come. The end has come. It awakens against you. Behold, it comes. ⁷ Your doom has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. The time has come. The day is near, tumult and not joyful shouting, upon the mountains.

²² Son of man, what is this proverb that you* have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged and every vision fails?
²³ Tell them therefore, The lord Jehovah says thus: I will make this proverb to cease and they will no more use it as a proverb in Israel, but say to them, The days are at hand and the fulfillment of every vision. ²⁴ For there will no more be any false vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel.
²⁵ For I am Jehovah. I will speak and the word that I will speak will be performed. It will be no more prolonged. For in your* days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and will perform it, says the lord Jehovah.
²⁶ Again the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ²⁷ Son of man, behold, those of the house of Israel say, The vision that he sees is for many day to come and he prophesies of times that are far off.
²⁸ Therefore say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: There will none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I will speak will be performed, says the lord Jehovah.

⁹ Brethren, do not groan against one another, in order that you may not be judged. Behold, the judge stands before the doors.

³ And in their greed, they will be merchants of you with fabricated words; to whom the condemnation from long-ago is not idle, and their destruction will not be slumbering.

¹³ But you* will break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and you* will cut down their Asherim, ¹⁴ for you will worship no other god. For Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

³² And I will bring the land into desolation and your* enemies who dwell in it will be astonished at it.
³³ And I will scatter you* among the nations and I will draw out the sword after you* and your* land will be a desolation and your* cities will be a waste. ³⁴ Then the land will enjoy its Sabbaths, as long as it lies desolate and you* are in your* enemies' land, even then will the land rest and enjoy its Sabbaths.

⁴³ The land also will be left by them and will enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. And they will accept of the punishment of their iniquity, because, even because they rejected my ordinances and their soul loathed my statutes.

²⁶ I call heaven and earth to witness against you* this day, that you* will soon utterly perish from the land to which you* go over the Jordan to possess it. You* will not prolong your* days upon it, but will be utterly destroyed.
²⁷ And Jehovah will scatter you* among the peoples and you* will be left few in number among the nations where Jehovah will lead you* away.

³ And you* will break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and burn their Asherim with fire. And you* will hew down the graven images of their gods and you* will destroy their name out of that place.
⁴ You* will not do so to Jehovah your* God.

³⁶ Jehovah will bring you and your king whom you will set over you, to a nation that you have not known, you nor your fathers. And there you will serve other gods, wood and stone.

⁶³ And it will happen, that, as Jehovah rejoiced over you* to do you* good and to multiply you*, so Jehovah will rejoice over you* to cause you* to perish and to destroy you*. And you* will be plucked from the land where you go in to possess it.
⁶⁴ And Jehovah will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. And you will serve other gods there, which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone ones.
⁶⁵ And among these nations you will find no ease and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot, but Jehovah will give you there a trembling heart and failing of eyes and pining of soul. ⁶⁶ And your life will hang in doubt before you and you will fear night and day and will have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you will say, Would it were evening! and at evening you will say, Would it were morning! for the fear of your heart which you will fear and for the sight of your eyes which you will see. ⁶⁸ And Jehovah will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You will see it no more again. And there you* will sell yourselves to your* enemies for bondmen and for bondwomen and no man will buy you*.

²⁴ even all the nations will say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land? What is the meaning of the heat of this great anger?
²⁵ Then men will say, Because they forsook the covenant of Jehovah, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, ²⁶ and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they did not know and that he had not given to them. ²⁷ Therefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book. ²⁸ And Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger and in wrath and in great indignation and cast them into another land, as at this day.

¹⁵ And it will happen, that as all the good things have come upon you* of which Jehovah your* God spoke to you*, so will Jehovah bring upon you* all the evil things, until he has destroyed you* from this good land which Jehovah your* God has given you*. ¹⁶ When you* transgress the covenant of Jehovah your* God, which he commanded you* and go and serve other gods and bow down yourselves to them, then the anger of Jehovah will be kindled against you* and you* will perish quickly from the good land which he has given to you*.

²⁵ But if you* will still do wickedly, you* will be consumed, both you* and your* king.

⁹ but have done evil above all who were before you and have gone and made you other gods and molten images to provoke me to anger and have cast me behind your back,

²³ For they also built for them high places and pillars and Asherim, on every high hill and under every green tree. ²⁴ And there were also sodomites in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which Jehovah drove out before the sons of Israel.

²⁹ In the days of Pekah King of Israel, Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon and Abel-beth-maacah and Janoah and Kedesh and Hazor and Gilead and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali. And he carried them captive to Assyria.

⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria and placed them in Halak and on the Habor, the river of Gozan and in the cities of the Medes.
⁷ And it was so, because the sons of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh King of Egypt and had feared other gods,

²³ until Jehovah removed Israel out of his sight, as he spoke by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria to this day.

¹¹ And the king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria and put them in Halak and on the Habor, the river of Gozan and in the cities of the Medes, ¹² because they did not obey the voice of Jehovah their God, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded and would not hear it, nor do it.

⁵ God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up and pluck you out of your tent and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

²² But the wicked will be cut off from the land and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.

²⁸ But the destruction of transgressors and sinners will be together and those who forsake Jehovah will be consumed. ²⁹ For they will be ashamed of the oaks which you* have desired and you* will be confounded for the gardens that you* have chosen.

⁹ Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars and he was strong as the oaks, yet I destroyed his fruit from above and his roots from beneath.

²⁷ Therefore I will cause you* to go into captivity beyond Damascus, says Jehovah, whose name is the God of hosts.

⁴ For Gaza will be forsaken and Ashkelon a desolation. They will drive out Ashdod at noonday and Ekron will be rooted up.

⁷ Now while these disciples are traveling on, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John, What did you come out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

¹³ He answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly father did not plant will be uprooted.

²⁴ Now when the messengers of John went away, he began to say to the crowds concerning John, What have you come out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

⁴³ And you took up the tabernacle of Moloch and the star of the god Remphan, the patterns which you made to worship and I will be exiling you past Babylon.’

²¹ And Moses said to Aaron, What did this people do to you, that you have brought a great sin upon them?

³⁵ And Jehovah killed* the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

³⁰ And this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one, even to Dan.

³⁴ And this thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth.

³⁰ for the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned and with which he made Israel to sin, because of his provocation with which he provoked Jehovah, the God of Israel, to anger.

¹² So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart, that they might walk in their own counsels.

²⁴ Yes, they have not been planted. Yes, they have not been sown. Yes, their stock has not taken root in the earth. Moreover he blows upon them and they wither and the whirlwind takes them away as stubble.

³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely and the priests bear rule by their means. And my people love to have it so. And what will you* do in the end of it?

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed. He is crushed in judgment, because he was content to walk after man's command.
¹² Therefore I am to Ephraim as a moth and to the house of Judah as rottenness.

¹¹ As for Ephraim, their glory will fly away like a bird. There will be no birth and none with child and no conception. ¹² Though they bring up their sons, yet I will bereave them, so that not a man will be left. Yes, woe also to them when I depart from them!

¹⁶ Ephraim is struck. Their root is dried up. They will bear no fruit. Yes, though they bring forth, yet I will kill the beloved fruit of their womb. ¹⁷ My God will cast them away because they did not listen to him and they will be wanderers among the nations.

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri are kept and all the works of the house of Ahab and you* walk in their counsels, that I may make you a desolation and the inhabitants of it a hissing. And you* will bear the reproach of my people.

⁷ Woe to the world from the coming offenses! For it is a necessity for the offenses to come; however, woe to that man through whom the offense comes!

¹³ Therefore we should no longer judge one another, but rather judge this: you are not to place a stumbling block, or offense, in the way of the brother.

²⁴ the king of Tirzah, one: all the kings thirty-one.

²⁰ And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife and said, Jehovah give you seed by this woman for the petition which was asked of Jehovah. And they went to their own home.
²¹ And Jehovah visited Hannah and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before Jehovah.
²² Now Eli was very old. And he heard all that his sons did to all Israel and how that they lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tent of meeting.
²³ And he said to them, Why do you* such things? For I hear of your* evil dealings from all this people. ²⁴ No, my sons, for it is no good report that I hear. You* make Jehovah's people to transgress. ²⁵ If one man sins against another, God will judge him, but if a man sins against Jehovah, who will entreat for him? Notwithstanding, they did not listen to the voice of their father, because Jehovah intended to kill them.
²⁶ And the child Samuel grew on and increased in favor both with Jehovah and also with men.
²⁷ And there came a man of God to Eli and said to him, Jehovah says thus, Did I reveal myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's house? ²⁸ And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? And did I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the sons of Israel made by fire?
²⁹ Why do you* kick at my sacrifice and at my offering, which I have commanded in my habitation and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chief of all the offerings of Israel my people?
³⁰ Therefore Jehovah, the God of Israel, says, I said indeed that your house and the house of your father, should walk before me everlasting, but now Jehovah says, Be it far from me, for those who honor me I will honor and those who despise me will be lightly esteemed.
³¹ Behold, the days come, that I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father's house, that there will not be an old man in your house. ³² And you will see an enemy in my habitation, in all that I will give Israel and there will not be an old man in your house forever. ³³ And the man of your, whom I will not cut off from my altar, will be to consume your eyes and to grieve your heart. And all the increase of your house will die in the flower of their age.
³⁴ And this will be the sign to you, that will come upon your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: In one day they will die, both of them.

¹⁸ And it happened, when he made mention of the ark of God, that Eli fell from his seat backward by the side of the gate. And his neck broke and he died, for he was an old man and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

²¹ And it happened, when Baasha heard of it, that he left off building Ramah and dwelt in Tirzah.

³³ In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah began to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, and reigned twenty-four years.

⁶ And Baasha slept with his fathers and was buried in Tirzah and Elah his son reigned instead of him. ⁷ And moreover the word of Jehovah came against Baasha by the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger with the work of his hands in being like the house of Jeroboam and because he killed* him.
⁸ In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha began to reign over Israel in Tirzah, and reigned two years. ⁹ And his servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him. Now he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah.

¹⁵ In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah. Now the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

²³ In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri began to reign over Israel, and reigned twelve years. He reigned six years in Tirzah.

⁴ You are fair, O my love, as Tirzah, becoming as Jerusalem, sublime as an army with banners.

¹³ And all Israel will mourn for him and bury him, for he only of Jeroboam will come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Jehovah, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

²⁹ Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ³⁰ And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.

³¹ Now the rest of the acts of Nadab and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

⁵ Now the rest of the acts of Baasha and what he did and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

¹⁴ Now the rest of the acts of Elah and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

²⁰ Now the rest of the acts of Zimri and his treason that he worked, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

²⁷ Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did and his might that he showed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

³⁹ Now the rest of the acts of Ahab and all that he did and the ivory house which he built and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

²⁴ Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but did not finish. And wrath came for this upon Israel. Neither was the number put into the account in the chronicles of king David.

² He reigned three years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam. ³ And Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men. And Jeroboam arranged for battle against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men who were mighty men of valor.
⁴ And Abijah stood up upon Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim and said, Hear me, O Jeroboam and all Israel. ⁵ Should you* not know that Jehovah, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David everlasting, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt? ⁶ Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord.
⁷ And there were gathered to him vain men, sons of worthlessness, who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon when Rehoboam was young and tender-hearted and could not withstand them.
⁸ And now you* think to withstand the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David and you* are a great multitude and there are with you* the golden calves which Jeroboam made you* for gods. ⁹ Have you* not driven out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron and the Levites and made priests for you* after the manner of the peoples of other lands? So that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
¹⁰ But as for us, Jehovah is our God and we have not forsaken him. And we have priests ministering to Jehovah, the sons of Aaron and the Levites in their work. ¹¹ And they burn to Jehovah every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. Also they set the showbread in order upon the pure table and the lamp-stand of gold with the lamps of it to burn every evening. For we keep the charge of Jehovah our God, but you* have forsaken him.
¹² And behold, God is with us at our head and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to shout an alarm against you*. O sons of Israel, do not fight against Jehovah, the God of your* fathers. For you* will not prosper.
¹³ But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come around behind them, so they were before Judah and the ambush was behind them.
¹⁴ And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them. And they cried to Jehovah and the priests blew the trumpets. ¹⁵ Then the men of Judah gave a shout. And as the men of Judah shouted, it happened, that God killed* Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
¹⁶ And the sons of Israel fled before Judah and God delivered them into their hand. ¹⁷ And Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter. So there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
¹⁸ Thus the sons of Israel were brought under at that time and the sons of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon Jehovah, the God of their fathers. ¹⁹ And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam and took cities from him, Bethel with the towns of it and Jeshanah with the towns of it and Ephron with the towns of it.
²⁰ Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah. And Jehovah killed* him and he died.

¹ On that night the king could not sleep. And he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles and they were read before the king.

¹⁰ And David slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David.

⁴³ And Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned instead of him.

²⁵ And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah. And he reigned over Israel two years. ²⁶ And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and walked in the way of his father and in his sin with which he made Israel to sin.
²⁷ And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him. And Baasha killed* him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, for Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon. ²⁸ Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah and reigned instead of him.
²⁹ And it happened that, as soon as he was king, he killed* all the house of Jeroboam. He left to Jeroboam not any who breathed, until he had destroyed him according to the saying of Jehovah, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite, ³⁰ for the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned and with which he made Israel to sin, because of his provocation with which he provoked Jehovah, the God of Israel, to anger.

¹² so man lies down and does not rise. Till the heavens be no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.

⁵ I laid down and slept. I awoke, because Jehovah sustains me.

⁸ I will both lie down and sleep in peace, because you, Jehovah, alone make me dwell in safety.

²⁴ An altar of earth you will make to me and will sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you.

⁵ But to the place which Jehovah your* God will choose out of all your* tribes, to put his name there, even to his habitation you* will seek and there you will come.

²¹ If the place which Jehovah your God will choose, to put his name there, be too far from you, then you will kill of your herd and of your flock, which Jehovah has given you, as I have commanded you and you may eat within your gates, according to all the desire of your soul.

³ An Ammonite or a Moabite will not enter into the assembly of Jehovah, even to the tenth generation none belonging to them will enter into the assembly of Jehovah everlasting,

¹⁶ Since the day that I brought out my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there, but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

⁴⁴ If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you will send them and they pray to Jehovah toward the city which you have chosen and toward the house which I have built for your name,

³² (but he will have one tribe, for my servant David's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel),

³⁶ And I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for me to put my name there.

³¹ And Rehoboam slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. And Abijah his son reigned instead of him.

¹³ So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem and reigned. For Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovah had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

⁷ And there were gathered to him vain men, sons of worthlessness, who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon when Rehoboam was young and tender-hearted and could not withstand them.

⁶⁸ but chose the tribe of Judah, the Mount Zion which he loved. ⁶⁹ And he built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established everlasting.

¹ His foundation is in the holy mountains. ² Jehovah loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

¹³ Because Jehovah has chosen Zion. He has desired it for his habitation. ¹⁴ This is my resting place forever. I will dwell here, for I have desired it.

⁶ Cry aloud and shout, you inhabitant of Zion, for great in the midst of you is the Holy One of Israel.

²⁴ For Jehovah your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

²⁸ And Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger and in wrath and in great indignation and cast them into another land, as at this day.

¹⁶ They moved him to jealousy with strange gods. With abominations they provoked him to anger.
¹⁷ They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods that they did not know, to new gods that came up of late, which your* fathers did not dread. ¹⁸ You are unmindful of the Rock that fathered you and have forgotten God who gave you birth.
¹⁹ And Jehovah saw and despised, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters. ²⁰ And he said, I will hide my face from them. I will see what their end will be. For they are a very perverse generation, sons in whom is no faithfulness. ²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with what is not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities and I will move them to jealousy with a non-nation. I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

⁷ And the sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and forgot Jehovah their God and served the Baals.

¹² And the sons of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah. And Jehovah strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel because they had done what was evil in the sight of Jehovah.

¹ And the sons of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, when Ehud was dead.

³⁰ And Ahab the son of Omri did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah above all who were before him.

¹⁹ Also Judah did not keep the commandments of Jehovah their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

¹¹ Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations and has done wickedly above all that the Amorites did who were before him and has made Judah also to sin with his idols,

¹ And it happened, when the kingdom of Rehoboam was established and he was strong, that he forsook the law of Jehovah and all Israel with him.

¹⁴ And he did what was evil, because he did not set his heart to seek Jehovah.

⁵⁸ For they provoked him to anger with their high places and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

³ a people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and burning incense upon bricks, ⁴ who sit among the graves and lodge in the secret places, who eat swine's flesh and broth of abominable things is in their vessels,

⁷ And I said after she had done all these things, She will return to me, but she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.
⁸ And I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a document of divorcement, yet treacherous Judah her sister did not fear, but she also went and played the prostitute.
⁹ And it happened through the lightness of her prostitution, that the land was polluted and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks. ¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not returned to me with her whole heart, but in pretense, says Jehovah.
¹¹ And Jehovah said to me, Backsliding Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.

⁴⁷ Yet you have not walked in their ways, nor done according to their abominations, but, like it was a very little thing, you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.
⁴⁸ As I live, says the lord Jehovah, Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters.

¹ You* will make for you* no idols. Neither will you* rear up for you* a graven image, or a pillar. Neither will you* place any figured stone in your* land, to bow down to it. For I am Jehovah your* God.

² You* will surely destroy all the places in which the nations that you* will dispossess served their gods, upon the high mountains and upon the hills and under every green tree.

²² Neither will you set up a pillar for you, which Jehovah your God hates.

² Only the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was no house built for the name of Jehovah until those days.

¹⁵ For Jehovah will kill* Israel as a reed is shaken in the water. And he will root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers and will scatter them beyond the River because they have made their Asherim, provoking Jehovah to anger.

⁹ And the sons of Israel did things secretly that were not right against Jehovah their God. And they built for them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city. ¹⁰ And they set up for them pillars and Asherim upon every high hill and under every green tree,

³ For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed. And he reared up altars for Baal and made an Asherah, as did Ahab King of Israel and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. ⁴ And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah said, In Jerusalem I will put my name. ⁵ And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of Jehovah.
⁶ And he made his son to pass through the fire and practiced soothsaying and used enchantments and dealt with psychics and with sorcery. He worked much evil in the sight of Jehovah to provoke him to anger.
⁷ And he set the graven image of Asherah, that he had made, in the house of which Jehovah said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.

⁴ And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places and on the hills and under every green tree.

⁵ you* who inflame yourselves among the oaks, under every green tree, who kill the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?

²⁰ For from old time I have broken your yoke and burst your bonds. And you said, I will not serve, for upon every high hill and under every green tree you bowed yourself, playing the prostitute.

¹³ Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against Jehovah your God and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree and you* have not obeyed my voice, says Jehovah.

² while their sons remember their altars and their Asherim by the green trees upon the high hills.

²⁴ that you have built yourself a vaulted place and have made you a lofty place in every street. ²⁵ You have built your lofty place at the head of every way and have made your beauty an abomination. And have opened your feet to everyone who passed by and multiplied your prostitution.

²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land, which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill and every thick tree and they offered there their sacrifices and there they presented the provocation of their offering. There also they made their sweet aroma and they poured out there their drink offerings. ²⁹ Then I said to them, What does the high place to which you* go mean? So the name of it is called Bamah to this day.

¹⁴ And I will pluck up your Asherim out of the midst of you and I will destroy your cities.

⁵ And they called to Lot and said to him, Where are the men who came to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may know them.

¹⁷ There will be no prostitute of the daughters of Israel, neither will there be a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

²² As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain worthless fellows, beset the house all around, beating at the door. And they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man who came into your house, that we may know him.

¹² And he put away the sodomites out of the land and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.

⁴⁶ And he put away out of the land the remnant of the sodomites, who remained in the days of his father Asa.

⁷ And he broke down the houses of the sodomites that were in the house of Jehovah where the women wove hangings for the Asherah.

²⁴ Hence also, God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts into uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves. ²⁵ They exchanged the truth of God into a lie and worshiped and gave-divine service to the created thing contrary to the one who created it, who is gracious forever. Amen.
²⁶ Because of this, God gave them up to passions of dishonor; for even their females exchanged the natural use into what is contrary to anything natural; ²⁷ and the males also likewise, having left the natural use of the female, burned in their lust toward one another, males with males working forth indecency and receiving in themselves the recompense which was essential from their error.

⁹ Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not be inheriting the kingdom of God? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor pedophiles, nor homosexuals,

⁴⁰ Solomon therefore sought to kill Jeroboam. But Jeroboam arose and fled into Egypt, to Shishak King of Egypt and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

² And it happened in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak King of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had trespassed against Jehovah, ³ with twelve hundred chariots and thirty thousand horsemen. And the people were without number who came with him out of Egypt: the Lubim, the Sukkiim and the Ethiopians. ⁴ And he took the fortified cities which pertained to Judah and came to Jerusalem.

⁹ So Shishak King of Egypt came up against Jerusalem and took away the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king's house; he took all away. He also took away the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

⁵¹ Thus all the work that king Solomon worked in the house of Jehovah was finished. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated–the silver and the gold and the vessels–and put them in the treasuries of the house of Jehovah.

¹⁶ And king Solomon made two hundred bucklers of beaten gold; six hundred shekels of gold went to one buckler. ¹⁷ And he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three pounds of gold went to one shield. And the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

¹⁸ Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king's house and delivered them into the hand of his servants. And king Asa sent them to Ben-hadad, the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, who dwelt at Damascus, saying,

¹³ And he carried out from there all the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king's house and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold, which Solomon King of Israel had made in the temple of Jehovah, as Jehovah had said.

¹⁵ And king Solomon made two hundred bucklers of beaten gold; six hundred shekels of beaten gold went to one buckler. ¹⁶ And he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three hundred shekels of gold went to one shield. And the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

¹⁰ And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard that kept the door of the king's house. ¹¹ And it was so, that, as often as the king entered into the house of Jehovah, the guard came and bore them and brought them back into the guard-chamber.

⁶ Surely every man walks in a shadow. Surely they are in an uproar in vain. He heaps up and does not know who will gather them.

³⁵ I have sworn once by my holiness; I will not lie to David. ³⁶ His seed will endure everlasting and his throne as the sun before me. ³⁷ It will be established everlasting as the moon and as the faithful witness in the sky. Selah.
³⁸ But you have cast off and rejected. You have been angry with your anointed. ³⁹ You have spurned the covenant of your servant. You have profaned his crown to the ground. ⁴⁰ You have broken down all his hedges. You have brought his strongholds to ruin.
⁴¹ All who pass by the way rob him. He has become a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴² You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries. You have made all his enemies to rejoice.
⁴³ Yes, you turn back the edge of his sword and have not made him to stand in the battle.
⁴⁴ You have made his brightness to cease and cast his throne down to the ground. ⁴⁵ The days of his youth you have shortened. You have covered him with shame. Selah.

⁵ Will you set your eyes upon what is not? Because it certainly makes itself wings, like an eagle that flies toward heaven.

¹⁸ And I hated all my labor in which I labored under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who will be after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have rule over all my labor in which I have labored and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

¹¹ And he said, This will be the manner of the king who will reign over you*: he will take your* sons and appoint them to him for his chariots and to be his horsemen and they will run before his chariots.

¹⁷ And the king said to the guard who stood about him, Turn and kill the priests of Jehovah, because their hand also is with David and because they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovah.

¹ And it happened after this, that Absalom prepared for him a chariot and horses and fifty men to run before him.

¹ At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.

⁴⁶ And the hand of Jehovah was on Elijah and he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

¹ How the gold has become dim, the most pure gold changed! The stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street. ² The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how they are esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

¹¹ And it was so, that, as often as the king entered into the house of Jehovah, the guard came and bore them and brought them back into the guard-chamber.

⁴¹ Now the rest of the acts of Solomon and all that he did and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?

¹⁹ And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

²³ Now the rest of all the acts of Asa and all his might and all that he did and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.

⁴⁵ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat and his might that he showed and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

¹⁵ Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the histories of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer, after the manner of genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. ¹⁶ And Rehoboam slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David. And Abijah his son reigned instead of him.

²¹ And when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

⁶ Now there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life. ⁷ And the rest of the acts of Abijah and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

²⁰ And the days which Jeroboam reigned were twenty-two years and he slept with his fathers. And Nadab his son reigned instead of him.
²¹ And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovah had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

³ And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him. And his heart was not perfect with Jehovah his God as the heart of David his father.

²⁴ And Asa slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. And Jehoshaphat his son reigned instead of him.

⁵⁰ And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. And Jehoram his son reigned instead of him.

¹⁰ And Solomon's son was Rehoboam, Abijah his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son,
